First time here. I can easily give kudos on the two most important categories of BBQ: taste and texture. The pulled pork was nicely smoked, the sauce was sweet and zesty. The texture was moist and shredded (my preference ). The sides were also top-notch. The potato salad was just like my mother's and the baked beans were just like my own (I pride myself on my baked bean recipe), and the toast was crisp and buttery. Wash it down with their sweet tea, and this boy is full!

I'm sure some of the food options are satisfying, but the pulled pork was not impressive. The sandwich was dry and the bun was wet and inedible. I ate the sandwich with one half of the bun but it sure wasn't worth 9 dollars. Go to little dooey

Ribs-OK. Baked beans-OK. Tater tots-why are tater tots on the menu? Service was slow. Only two others were there and it took a very long time to receive our order. I know BBQ in the south can be mind blowing great and this is not great. At best it is good. FYI-could not find any sort of restroom for hand washing. You may want to wash up before eating-you will need to wash up after eating the ribs. Starbucks has a very nice restroom.

I'll second the "gruff service" comment. Had never eaten there before and apparently threw them off their routine by ordering and taking a seat instead of waiting for my food at the front widow. A family of four ordered after me and did the same thing I did--sat down and waited for their order to be called out. They got their food first even though all I had ordered was a pulled pork sandwich. Finally the man at that table with his family noticed me still waiting and went up to the front to ask about it for me. Only then did I get what I'd payed for. Really people? When I came up to get the food got the sense that the cashier and the lady behind him were quietly laughing at me. No apology was offered for my order taking so long. SO rude. I personally will never eat there again. Dooey's has much better barbecue. I guess Petty's is still the cheapest in Starkville though. ....It shows.

Every time my husband and I travel to Starkville, Mississippi, we stop by Petty's BBQ off of Highway 12 for some great tasting down home cooking!!! The owners and staff are friendly and down home like family!! My husband likes their snopes and I like their frog legs; however, we both like their catfish, fried green tomatoes and potato salad!! Their BBQ is famous and taste the best in the south!! Petty's BBQ is a historical establishment that satisfies the appetite and fantasize the palate with a southern style candlelight!!! Drive over to Petty's BBQ and eat on one of their picnic tables outside or take it home or back to the hotel!

5 stars for the food, 4 for service. After traveling 2,000 miles from the west coast, this was the best bbq we had on our journey. The ribtips, baked beans, and coleslaw were phenomenal. The sweet tea was a bit too syrupy, if I had to complain about something, but even that wasn't too bad.

Being originally from Miss but now living in Texas ; I've never really adapted to Texas BBQ because it is different. I come to Petty's everytime I come to Starkville to visit because it reminds of the BBQ I grew up eating. This time, my husband & I got to know the owner, Mr. Petty - really nice man. I really enjoy their ribs/brisket and beans - I haven't ordered anything else. It maybe pricey, but its really good and cheaper than what we'd get in Houston. We will be back Mr. Petty!

I WILL NEVER NEVER RETURN THERE AGAIN!!!!!! I do not pay almost $50 for food to be treated like the "lady" at the window treated me. It is not funny or cute. I will tell everyone I know to never go to this place. This woman spoke to me like dirt and then to the next customer she was sickeningly sweet. She called him, "Mr. John" and gushed all over him. I was and am a very polite and friendly person. I have been a teacher for the past 30 years, but spent time in customer service during my high school and college years. I know that the customer should be treated with respect and courtesy. This person should be ashamed of herself and the owner should not keep her in his employ. Do not eat here. Not worth it at all!!!!

Awesome pulled pork, but it's pretty pricey and they charge way too much for slaw. The customer service is a bit gruff too.

This is really good BBQ. I also like their Country Fried Steak Sandwich - it's got a lot of meat, fully dressed, for a great price. Their BBQ beans are really good too. Great food Nice guy Go to Petty's!

Worst experience ever. The food is subpar and it would maybe even taste better if the bitterness from the service didn't cloud my mind. Our orders were rudely taken, after not even being greeted in any way possible when we approached the window. I got a ,"What do you want?" instead of a "What would you like to order?." There was no thank you and absolutely no friendliness in any way. I got the BBQ nachos which they advertise on their board, so I'd expect it to be good. I opened a box of stale chips, bbq and bacon bits. Very disappointing and definitely not worth the bad treatment. How do they get repeat customers if customers get treated this way? GO TO SYKES AND SIX BBQ! They know how to treat customers right and their food is amazing!
