This is the place. My first day in McComb, MS, I was peer pressured into going to a quick lunch between sessions at the Caboose. Thankfully peer pressure works out to your advantage sometimes! I had a bowl of the gumbo with rice at lunch, and surveyed my colleague's lunches with thoughts of returning for dinner. I looked over Yelp for reviews and other possibilities in the area, but Yelpers, locals, and hotel staff all said I should go back for dinner, and I'm SO happy I did. My server, Ashley, was friendly and helpful in guiding me to the best the restaurant had to offer. My evening meal started with a side Caesar salad (one of my personal favorites; server stated there'd be an up-charge) and bread (which I never got to because I was saving room for the rest of my dinner). I ordered a blackened ribeye accompanied by grilled asparagus with hollandaise. After I had time to delve into it, the chef came out and talked to me about the steak (nice gesture) and I mentioned that I loved it! Found myself dipping the blackened steak bites into the hollandaise sauce to add another layer of flavor. Overall the price was a bit higher than I'd expected (the up-charge for my Caesar was $5!), but my belly and mind was very happy! I'm not sure if tomorrow's training will bring the same peer pressure to return to the Caboose, but if it does or if I revisit McComb in the future, I will definitely return.

I have been to the Caboose 3 times. Never have I been satisfied. There is a "better than you" haughtiness from all of the staff. During the second visit, our waitress never smiled. Apparently we inconvenienced her day by making her wait on us (only returned to the table once after delivering our meal). The last time I went, we were greeted with: "We cannot serve you. We close at 1:30 and do not sit anyone after 1:15, and it is 1:28." I asked why they had the door unlocked if they were closed, but she did not respond other than "I hope you will come back soon." I told her not to count on it. If you are coming to McComb area and want WAAAAAY better food at a WAAAAAY better price, go to Old River Steakhouse in Tylertown, MS....(601.876.3800)

Best steak I've ever had. Salad was so-so. Atmosphere was whatever. Wine was suitable. Hollandaise was pleasantly lemony. Asparagus was perfectly cooked. Music selection was random and strange - though fun to make fun of so added entertainment. Service was mixed.

We found this hidden jewel the other night, while traveling, thanks to other Yelp posts. Although downtown McComb was pretty dead, this quaint restaurant was quite alive. I ordered the dinner special, Flat Iron steak dinner and my husband had the salmon. Both of our dinners were without question the finest we've had in months. The waiter was wonderful and the owner/chef came out to make sure everything was okay. I can't quit thinking about that wonderful food!!

This is a cute restaurant in downtown McComb. It was turned into a steakhouse from a flea market. It has a warehouse district feel like New Orleans. Our waitress is the main reason why I had to give 3 stars. She was incompetent. I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and she said, "can you point that out to me? I can't say it." Seriously?!?! Then she brought us our butter, but never any bread. My Dad had to ask for it. We had the blue cheese chips and they were good. I think they had sat in the kitchen a little too long because they came out a little on the soggy side. I had the Mahi special which was enjoyable, although a little overlooked. It came topped with a Buerre Blanc sauce with shrimp and a side of spinach and artichoke au gratin. I asked the waitress how big the fish filet was because I was debating on splitting it. She didn't even offer to maybe go ask the chef and instead just stared at me blankly. My mom had the grilled lobster which came without the shell. It was only 4 pieces. That's a little on the small side. My Dad ordered the grouper which he enjoyed. I would go again. I had just finished a 75 mile bike ride so I'd like to go when I wasn't feeling so miserable. The steaks looked good as well and that's what they're known for, so we shall see! PS. The chef/owner came and spoke with our table and he was very friendly. I would've given four stars if it wasn't for my waitress.

Service is decent. Food is just decent that's all. Had shrimp and corn bisque for lunch. It was cold. I was the first customer right at 11 so this is almost unbelievable. I had the ahi tuna salad. It wasn't great. And it was saturated in the vinaigrette to the point of being messy.

We were staying in Brookhaven MS and were looking for a good restaurant. The 30 minute drive was worth it. The food was very good and the atmosphere was upscale. Dessert was definitely worth saving room for. We tried the bread pudding and peach cobbler! The owner comes out often to make sure everything is good. I gave this 4 stars because based on the area it was well above anything else. If this was in Atlanta I would give it 3 stars.

Good service and pleasant atmosphere. Food was ok. Lunch menu was very limited. Nice dinner menu with many options for steak and seafood. Adequate wine list. Deserves 2.5 stars not quite 3, if Yelp allowed it. For the good service and being located in McComb I bumped it to 3.

2 words: LOVED IT! The atmosphere was wonderful and kid friendly! I enjoyed the Ahi Tuna and would highly recommend it. Everything we had was great. The staff was top notch! Don't hesitate to visit! Well worth it!

Ordered the tuna and it wasn't fresh. Service was excellent. I may try a steak next time. Good wine selection. Best in mccomb, but for the price I expected fresh tuna.

Last night I had ahi tuna, it was pretty good but I felt like it was overcooked and chewy. Tonight I had ribeye with sweet potato fries and it was excellent!

I am shocked to see that I am only the second person to leave a review for the Caboose. This place has been around for several years now in Southwest Mississippi. I recently visited the Caboose on the Tuesday after Christmas. I expected it to be empty. It was packed. No surprise after the meal I had. I had 3 items that ended up being the BEST versions of those I have had anywhere before. They were fried crab claws, gumbo, and bread pudding. The fried crab claws were the big and plump and full of sweet crab meat. The gumbo was so good, and while we were eating our apps and soup, the owner came out to talk to us and he said they would taste the exact same the next time we visit as well. The bread pudding is actually indescribable. It was perfect to me. So moist. Although I did not order the bone in ribeye on this visit, I have in the past. It is huge and they cooked it just the way I asked them too. I like mine in between medium and medium well, and that is exactly how they cooked it. This place is expensive though .The Caboose is even a little more expensive than fine dining in New Orleans. However, I don't have to spend money on gas to New Orleans and back to get a fine meal. Try the Caboose, you will love. I think it is one of the best restaurants in all of Mississippi and I am fortunate to live only 30 minutes from there.

Two words: The best. The proprietor not only knows how to run a restaurant but he knows how to present the highest quality ingredients in a manner designed to please your particular palate. How? The staff and owner immediately develop a relationship with their customers that is friendly and informative, ultimately leading to a most pleasurable dining experience. This restaurant is top-notch. Sushi grade tuna, perfectly cooked steaks, innovative everything else. Go there. Bring your wallet, but go!

Nice place but overpriced for what you get. I have eaten there three times now each time with the same impression. The The tuna was cooked medium when the request was medium rare. When it was sent back I actually believed they cooked it a little more. My ribeye was good. Cooked to perfection but no better than the local chain restaurants. It's a nice upscale restaurant in a small town with upscale pricing and cloth tablecloths. Service was excellent up until till the time we got ready to leave and then we couldn't find our waiter. I see lots of five-star reviews I don't get it. I give it two stars for a below average tuna an average steak but with everything overpriced.

This is definitely the best restaurant in Mccomb and the surrounding area. The menu features steak and seafood items. There are several appetizers, salads and sides. I decided to try it out after reading the reviews on Yelp and checking out their online menu. I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance. It is upscale but most patrons were dressed very casual. I found this to be really cool. The owners stopped by each table several times to check on service. The place is called The Caboose because it is located across from the train depot. It is a corner location with a private lot and street parking options. It is in downtown McComb between State and Broadway. My dad and I enjoyed everything we ordered. The average entree is anywhere from $19- $35. The entrees are served with a garden salad and your choice of a baked potato, sweet potato fries or french fries. I opted to get the twice baked potato as a substitute for an additional $3.50. Appetizers I ordered the Louisiana blue crab claws as an appetizer and my dad had the seafood & okra gumbo. The cup of gumbo is a bowl of gumbo. It was big and good so my dad was happy. The crab claws were the largest I have ever had too. I took a picture to share. We were also given huge soft dinner rolls with a bowl filled with butter. Entrees My entree was the 6 oz filet and my dad ordered the seafood platter which includes all fried items (catfish, oysters, shrimp & soft shell crab). Most notably, the shrimp were pretty big. My steak dinner was delicious. My only issue with my food was the steak came out completely dry and brown. I tried to eat it but it was tough. When I asked if they normally cook medium until it is dry, the waiter said no and agreed it was well done. Within a few minutes she returned with another piece which was cooked medium. OMG, it was melt in your mouth perfect! After getting three fourths into it, I was full as a tick. My dad decided to pack up most of his platter. We decided to skip dessert and I'm glad we did. The meal was pretty close to $100 without gratuity. I would suggest trying to make a reservation. We walked in but when you do, you are stuck with limited seating options. The bar area has seating with smoking and a side exit which kept the cold air blowing in. This place was packed so the exit had quite a bit of foot traffic. The Saturday night crowd consisted of large groups, families and couples. Totally recommend this place if you are in the area. But like another yelper pointed out, bring your wallet!!

Stopped by here on a trip and had the special: fish on top of shrimp and grits. One of the best meals I've ever had. It was pricey but well worth it. The special dessert was blackberry cheesecake cobbler and it was out of this world. Can't imagine anything better!
