Happily, this restaurant location is no longer Smith's Express, but has reopened as SPRINGFIELD AVENUE CAFE. It's a down-home style menu in a diner-style atmosphere. The food is locally-sourced!! Preparations are simple and tasty, not fried and overcooked. Portions are ample, but sensible. All in all, a very welcome addition to the local dining scene.

I can't say this restaurant is bad. But, its also not great. Its just okay. Its better than McDonalds or burger king. So that's why I give it a 3. The atmosphere is pretty near. Plenty of stuff to look at, but where its pretty it lacks in the most important place. The food. Like I said earlier, its good food. But, its SO OVER PRICED! The quality of the food isn't worth the price they sell it for. The staff is hit and miss also. Some are nice others are really rude. But, that's standard for just about any restaurant. Its great for large groups!

If you're in to huge helpings of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, this is your place. The food is actually really good homestyle cooking.

My Dad wanted to come here for Thanksgiving. Since there were only 2 reviews on Yelp, I checked other reviews and recommended that we not go based on the info I found. However, Dad really likes the Collins location so I gave in. Well, I am sorry I did. I ordered the 12 item Thanksgiving plate. The sweet potato casserole was good. However, the dressing had some sort of bitter taste, the ham had a strange flavor, the turkey they put on my plate were scraps that included a blob of fat, and the pumpkin pie was sort of slimy. Not sure how you can mess up all of that food. Oh well...now I know. The next time, I will not be going to Smiths.
