Breakfast review. Hands down a great breakfast place. The made from scratch pancakes are huge and awesome. The syrup is different in a good way. The bacon is the best of any place I've been. Thick and cooked to perfection. Hashbrowns ... just fresh and awesome. This is my favorite breakfast place. Atmosphere. Cozy and clean. Remodeled in the last couple of years. complaints. Price. Very reasonable. Good value.

One of the best things about living in Rochester is being able to stop here for breakfast on the way to Gopher games. It is utterly fantastic! In fact, this is about as near to perfection as one can get. The pancakes, the eggs, the bacon, the etc., are always flavorful, cooked masterfully, and served hot--these culinary innovations are almost unknown in Rochester. (I am, of course, exempting India Garden, Pho Chau, Hardy's barbecue, and Grandma's from having any deficiencies related to these qualities.). It's amazing what a restaurant can do when it respects its customers and does not treat them all like dumb asses.

My Mom was in town, being Grandma for a week to our 8 1/2 month old daughter. She wanted to treat us to an All-You-Can-Eat Friday Night Fish Fry that we hadn't been to before. Little Oscar's ended up being that place. Driving South on Highway 52, you can not get to the restaurant with out going past it, and taking the exit for Farmington/Hampton. Then driving over the highway, getting back on 52 going North, and then turning into the entrance they have off of 52. Kinda screwy, but it's not like they have any control over that. We pull into the lot to find ample parking around 6:30. They have beautiful landscaping off to the South side of the place. Lots of flowers and plants. Plus a picnic table to enjoy all those fresh smells of nature. Walking in, you enter into the center of the restaurant, with counter seating and booths off to your left, and tables and booths to your right. A sign said seat yourself, so we chose the right side and a table looking out at that beautiful landscaping. We were greeted quickly by Kendra, our server, and she asked what we wanted to drink. Not having sat down yet, I had no clue. Kendra dropped off our menus and said she would be back. They have all the standard drinks available, but no alcohol or beer. So, when Kendra came back, I went with a lemonade. Mom went with an iced tea. Alyssa R stayed with water. When those were brought, we all ordered the AYCE Fish Fry. It comes standard with deep fried Cod, but you get a choice in potato. Which was hash browns, mashed, baked, hot German potato salad or french fries. Mom went with hash browns, Alyssa R went with baked, and I did french fries. You also get a choice of soup or salad. Asking about soups, they had a choice of bean & ham or chili. Oh, clam chowder. Where art thou? I went with a salad. As did Alyssa R. Mom went with the bean & ham soup. Waiting for our salads & soup, we noticed that a toy train started to run above our heads, and all around the right side of the restaurant. On the back of the menu they write a little blurb about the facts of the train. For train aficionados, they might understand what it means, but for us folk. It's a cool looking toy train. When the salad was brought, I was impressed. Nice green lettuce, thick wedge of tomato, a few rings of onion, and homemade croutons. All with a plastic ramekin of dressing on the side. Taste? Fresh and crisp. Perfect. My Mom loved her soup, saying it was definitely homemade. After we finished up our first course, Kendra promptly took away our empty dishes. It wasn't more than 3 minutes later our suppers were brought. Set in front of me was 3 pieces of golden fried Cod and frozen bagged thick cut french fries. Along with it came a little plastic ramekin of sweet pickle tartar sauce. We had to ask for lemon. The lemons that came was the most juicy lemons I've ever encountered. Lots of squeeze per slice. The breading on the Cod was 1/2 flour 1/2 cornmeal. Not too shabby. The Cod was done just right. Very flaky and bright white. It tasted swell. The tartar was OK. I'm not too sure about the sweet pickle aspect of it. I like a little more tang in my tartar, and this ended up being sweet on the palate. The fries tasted just how they looked. Frozen & bagged. Straight from Sysco. My Mom said her hash browns were perfect. Wish I got those. They looked great. We were checked up on by Kendra a couple times wondering how things were, and if we needed more Cod. That's all you can reorder here is just the fish. When we were ready for more, we asked for three pieces. That came out in a couple stages. First 2, then another 2 a few minutes later. So we ended up with 4. That was enough for us all. I asked for a refill on my lemonade, but they don't have free refills on lemonade here. Beware of that. I would have just stuck with water if I knew that ahead of time. We were asked about dessert, which Alyssa R knew she wanted before we even sat down. She got a slice of one of the homemade pies they have, to-go. Strawberry Rhubarb. It came in a perfect to-go container. It was shaped like a slice of pie, and it fit inside of it just dandy. With my Mom picking up the tab, I'm not sure of the total cost, but the All-You-Can-Eat Friday Night Fish Fry cost $9.95. That is the perfect price point. If you happen to come here, note that the place closes at 8.

One of their burgers have hash Browns in it. How wonderful is that? I always get the blueberry pancake as well. The owner is super friendly and so is the wait staff. I just can't eat here too often or I'd get fat. But once a month is fine.

My bacon has a first name, it's O S C A R. I've long since forgotten it's second name. Little Oscars is a throwback diner situated in Hampton (a little ways North of Canon Falls). The building at least has been here a good long time as I remember stopping here over 20 years ago. Don't remember if it was called Little Oscar's then. It has beautiful windows overlooking Hwy 52 which makes the dining room bright and cheery. There are railroad tracks running above the diners although the engine was dormant when we were there. The food here is diner standard, but done nicely. They refer to their "signature" bacon quite a few times on the menu, so I thought I'd give it a go. Eggs, Toast hash Browns and Bacon for me. My wife had the Turkey Plate. The boy had French Toast with Ring Sausage. My breakfast was A-Ok. The hash browns were crisp - not too greasy. The bacon is a standout. What ever you get, get it with bacon. If you get a BLT order it with extra bacon :) French Toast is made with Texas toast. and is good. The Ring Sausage was nice. The Turkey plate was gobbled up. When on the road to Rochester, this makes a nice pit stop.

Happend to stumble upon the little place on way home from Rochester. Great diner food, good service and I brought home a delicious homemade Apple Pie for the Vikes game for 10 bucks!!

Best French Toast and Bacon ever. I wish they were open until 9 though, since I would totally stop there on my way back from the Twin Cities but I don't get off work until 8pm. Good service, cute place. BEST FRENCH TOAST.

It is one of those roadside establishments that you will drive by again and again and again and one day you will just have to stop and check it out and see what it is all about. I went for breakfast on my way to the airport and it is exactly what you would expect in decor and atmosphere from a little mom-n-pop longtime diner....Food was average. I wouldn't avoid this place if you are in need of a meal however i certainly would not make it a destination place.

We wanted to go to a diner, so we figured we'd make the drive to try this place out. I'm originally from Rochester, so I've driven past Little Oscar's probably hundreds of times since I moved to the Twin Cities. Turned out to be a pretty good decision to stop in! Came in for Sunday (late) brunch, and found it to be relatively quiet, but certainly not empty. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and was shocked at how huge they were. Ample portions was an understatement! Everything was delicious, our server was generally attentive, and the atmosphere was really nice. Definitely a departure from your everyday urban eatery. It allowed us to get away for a while without really having to drive particularly far.

Cute diner! Delicious breakfast all day. Service was excellent. Prices are very reasonable and you get a ton of food. I wish this was closer to home for me.

I tried the 3 meat omit. How is this place still in business? Omits appear to be Pre-made the meet and cheese where just thrown on top of gray - blue tinted eggs. I have had better food from lunch trucks. Hay guys breakfast food is the easiest thing for a restraint to do rite.

By far the best breakfast south of the metro. Busy sunday morning and we got in right away. Pancakes larger than the plate itself. Plus the boys enjoyed the train.

We are not from Minnesota. We found this place and stopped in while driving through the town. It was exactly what you would expect. Good food at a reasonable price

Great bacon: that would be the number one thing to get there. The rest of the menu is run of the mill greasy spoon type food done a little better than most places. The Sour Cream Raisin Pie used to be the second big reason to go to this place but now instead of it being a pie it is served in a cup like custard. Loosing the pie crust sort of makes it less appealing now. The service always seems good. They have special of the day items but I have no idea how good they are as I stick to the above mentioned items.

A nice little stop for food. They normally have bacon that makes me drool - this time it was a little too burnt for my taste. My husband had a rachael and he said it was very good. The rest of my breakfast was quite tasty - but they did have a pretty bad fruit fly problem when we stopped in. It takes a little of the joy out of a meal when you are swatting bugs. Nice stop for kids as they have a toy train that circles over the restaurant and they will blow the horn and ring the bell on request.

I've been stopping at Little Oscar's for many years. It's on the road between where I visit in southeast MN and the airport (MSP). Just right for a plate of breakfast to avoid the airport food when I'm heading out. I've tried just about every breakfast combination through the years and remember getting some pork chops for lunch one time. Too many stops to remember. The greatness for me is that it's a comfortable place. Pleasant wait-staff and good food. Clean and quick. It's a reliable stop for me.

Worth the drive if you live in the south metro area. Great breakfast, known for their super outstanding bacon. They know how to do breakfast right, have to say I've not been there for any other meals. Service is consistently good, always seem to find a table of Minnesota's finest highway patrol enjoying the most important meal of the day. Pancakes are yummy, egg sandwiches and french toast are quite good too.

Great breakfast and burgers. A little more spendy than one might think for this type of establishment, but good food over all. Try the Wig-wag caboose burger, a half pounder with hashbrowns, cheese and bacon on it with lettuce, tomato, and onion. Old school cafe atmosphere.

Looking for a fabulous low-key restaurant randomly sitting on the side of the road that serves terrible salads, but unbelievably good broasted chicken, mashed potatoes, soup, and pie?!?! Then, Little Oscar's is your place! We recently stopped in for a late lunch and noshed on some yummo dinner food (skip the salads, they aren't even worth it...seriously!). For sure save some room desserts (maybe if make your pie choice a la mode?). Gotta love it.
