My girlfriend and I met another couple on a Friday night at 8. We ordered pizza and spaghetti with breadsticks for an appetizer. The food was really good but the service was lacking. We didn't get he appetizer until after the entrees. We say with empty drinks for 10 minutes. Besides the service the place was excellent. A 12" pizza, pop, draft beer, and a flight was only $30.

We used to come here once a week for about two years, up until now. Seems they have hired little girls with big attitudes that do not know how to serve. We ordered two sicillion (spell??) pizza, and she came out with entirely different pizzas! I asked to see the menu again, and the description did not match the pizzas. When we asked to speak with a manager, the manager was not there. Our drinks were not filled after that. Will never go back. Spent $50 in pizza that was nasty and didn't even want!

Went with a group of five and got a table quickly on a Sunday evening. They were moderately busy. If you want to converse with your co-diners, make sure to request seating on the dining side. Appetizer: cheesy breadsticks and italian flautas. Breasticks were good, seasoned well. Italian flautas we also good, served with a delicious sweet and spicy sauce. Meals: #1 was the Sicilian Sausage Platter. Half the plate was cold (should've been warm). Requested spaghetti as a side instead of the potatoes. The spaghetti came without sauce, so we had to ask for that...was kind of odd. The sausages were pretty small and everything was somewhat bland...not recommended. #2 was a Caesar side salad with the Pizza Rolls appetizer as a meal. This was very good. We originally had one waitress, and then after getting our drinks we were switched over to another with no explanation. Neither introduced themselves to our table. During ordering our waitress mentioned the dessert menu and left it at our table, but gave us our bill before asking if we wanted dessert...we ended up ordering dessert and getting a revised bill. The peanut butter pie was delicious! Overall, will probably go back at some point.

The food is always above average and the drinks are solid! I've been a loyal customer since they opened and I've always been impressed with the way the management (family owned) has always made my experiences feel personal. This is the most flexible restaurant I've ever worked with, you can come in solo or have 100 people in your party and they can accommodate you.

One of my favorite places! Everything I've ordered was great! I can see the game from just about any seat, the atmosphere is fun (even when it's rival teams, and play offs) plus you can get better quality food choices than just the same old bar food :-)! Staff is super friendly and service is always on point!

They have an extensive beer menu and 30+ taps of craft beer that will rotate constantly.

An original neighborhood Italian sorts bar. A place surrounded by TV's (in the bar area) to keep the distracted busy. Meals are well thought out and tasty. I've had a sub par meal here.

Very fast! Even for Chicago style pizza. Pizza was good. GF also good. I hate that you have to pay extra for everything gluten free but such is life. Not a cheap place but our experience was good.

Great place!! Fun atmosphere. Good drinks great food. Pizza is great, and recently had the lasagna!! It's amazing and the portion is so large plenty for leftovers and warmed up nicely! Also love that any of their subs you can ask for in a wrap! It doesn't state that on the menu but they will do it! Highly recommend Monellis to everyone!

Televisions in the sports bar are plentiful. Watching football at Monellis is fun due to all the big screens. Cheese bread is awesome! Regular crust pizzas are good and they have a convenient take out area. Plenty of parking. Service can be slow. Up charges for food and liquor drink prices seem higher than other places when specials aren't running. For the above reasons I'm holding back an extra star.

What a great place this is! Every Friday night we go for dinner And receive great service and excellent food always. Place was packed and everybody seems to be happy! Looking forward to next Friday!

Went there for lunch and saw that they offered a lunch buffet. Friend and I took a peek and it didn't appeal to us so we asked for menus. Food was good but we were not happy that they offered dinner time portions and prices for lunch. I wanted pasta carb but the lunch price was 13.50 without a salad...um no thanks. Obviously they want to steer everyone towards their buffet which looked pretty mediocre to us.

Good food, great service and they are always changing the beer menu. Fun place but it is a little pricey. The burger and wings are very good for those that dont want to eat pizza.

We were very happy with our meal here. Pizza was delicious! Everything was reasonably priced. Has a more traditional restaurant section and a very large sports bar & eating area. When we went, the traditional restaurant section was full, so we sat in the sports bar section, which is huge and has about 15-20 big screens all around the room. Sitting in the sports bar section was still enjoyable and there were LOTS of other tables with families and diverse groups. Very happy with our experience here & will definitely go back again!

I swear I've written a review for this place like 4 times, and it keeps disappearing!!! The pizza was good. I was staying at a hotel for the night just down the road, and the "check-in" guy suggested that I try this place out for a good bite to eat. Can't complain. The crowd was quite the mix, and sitting at the bar, the bar tenders were very nice, funny, and kept me entertained as I stuck out like a sore thumb in the place. Great stop.

from the outside you'd expect a place like maggianos but - no siree. half o the place is like a formal dining room. the other half is like a sports bar on steroids. it threw me off and a part of me wonders if they have an identity issue?? i loved all the TVs though so i didn't mind. i had the chicken carbaonara. EXCELLENT. the way i knew it was was because the pasta was served hot and the sauces was cooked INTO the pasta which is not something you see often. usually its dumped on top but you could tell the cooks here knew what they were doing. very very impressed. also LOVE LOVE the herb butter. i wish more places knew that great butter can make up for decent bread. i will go back JEANS: OK by far ORDER: waitstaff

Food was good service average. Vegie lasagna was the best. Panini was good too. Smoking in the bar area reeked! did't like that.

Similar to quality of a chain restaurant. Service is good. Their breadsticks with cheese are fantastic. Ok but not fabulous.

Penne Con Polo tonight. Take-out. Great dish. Strong but delicious. Been going to Monelli's since it opened. Very good food. I think pizza is best in Grand Rapids. But what do I know? Moved here from New York 33 years ago and you have my word.

...sigh. When this place first opened it was great. The pizza was cooked properly and they used very good ingredients. The bread sticks are very good. The pizza isn't worth what they charge.

This was a good pizza. We had a ham, pepperoni, and green pepper pizza that was greasy but very good. I was impressed by their clean interior and unique ingredients. We went with a pretty basic pizza but I would enjoy trying their speciality offering next time I'm in town. Recommended.

Awesome pasta with home made sauces and the Stromboli is the best.

Good food most of the time. We've been there four times in the past couple years and liked our meals three of those times. Their house fries are a yummy appetizer. Speaking of appetizers - for a while they featured their own variation of Bonefish Grille's Bang Bang Shrimp - and it was a dead on ringer. But they seem to only do that every so often. Their wait staff must be instructed to make you wait no matter what - not too speedy. Not sure if we'll go back anytime soon as our last trip was disappointing. Maybe we'll wait a while and give 'em another shot down the road.

When smoking was allowed it smelled really smoky all the time. Haven't dined in or drank in the bar in a long time. Huge TV's in the bar make it a good spot for games but the majority of the seating is too close to get a good picture, your nexk hurts after an active day or night of games. We pick up pizza once a month and I highly reccomend their garlic breadsticks. They are severly smothered in garlic butter and their dipping pizza sauce is perfect. Sauce always comes in a larger portion that you need. (Great for leftovers!) Pizza is good bar style pizza, crust and sweet sauce are the things you will remember about it. We recently ordered 2 half pans of pasta for a family gathering and if was a good alternative if you cou;ldn't cook it yourself. Again the red sauce you just can't replicate so it makes the $30 half pans worth it. I like that the pick up window is seperate from the restuarant and they always have everyday specials so you don't have to actually clip the coupon and bring it in, they just give you the special price. We'll keep going back and after my review I think we'll try dining in soon.

Good for lunch and their buffet. Typical Italian food, they do it well, pizza, pasta, and bread sticks. It's two steps above an olive garden. From then outside its doesn't show it's size and depth.

The place is huge. The parking was full and we almost went somewhere else but there was no waiting. The meatloaf stuffed with ham, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese was incredible! So were the pepperoni rolls were also incredible! The spinach lasagna was only mediocre. Staff was efficient and great.

Great restaurant and sports bar! Food is great, family friendly and reasonably priced. We go as often as possible. Pizzas are fantastic especially the specialty with the owners home made sausage!

Service is good, place is nice, drinks are good and only slightly over priced. The food is not bad. It also is not good. But for the surcharge they put on their food it is horrible. $12 for Fettechini Alfredo, the sauce is likely from GFS. No flavor what so ever. Then they charge another $2 on top of that for a cut up chicken breast that was not seasoned cooked on the flat top. Never had the pizza but probably won't be back to try it.

I like this place because its right next door but I had their "Chicago pizza" tonight. It was simply extra dough on a normal pizza for an upcharge. I don't think I'll be back. Go to ucellos instead.

My husband and I went to lunch here once with a friend of ours (per his idea). We all had the lunch buffet. I particularly liked the soup and pizza selections. We ate in the bar area which was nicely decorated and adorned with several TVs. Normally we are not a big fan of buffets but we really liked this one. Will definitely come back and try other items their menu has to offer!

A sports bar ... With Italian food? Ok. Had the cannelloni it was served way too early (burned my mouth hot and cheese not set up). Meatball looked and tasted like it was boiled. Sausage cut up into little chunks. And it was. All baked together under cheese terrible presentation. If you want to have a beer and catch a game not a bad place. If you want good Italian food go somewhere else. Service was good though.

Love us some Monelli's! Their Tuscan Sausage soup is incredible- the lunch buffet is really, really good too. Like to get some Alfredo pasta, a chicken thigh, and make my own dish. Wife loves the salads, and the Carbonara is AWESOME. Totally legit place. If you haen't gone there yet, do it!

We enjoyed our first visit to Monelli's. She had the Chicken Bruschetta and I had the Lasagna. The anticipated Basalmic Vinigrette was not in evidence but garlic was certainly not missing. The Lasagna was very tasty but I needed to ask for spoon to eat it. Would have liked it better if it was thicker. Service was really done well and I am sure we will go again.

We've been going here since they opened, and while their appetizers are great, the main dishes are as a whole just not that great. For that reason we stick to the bread sticks with melted mozzarella, they're probably the best thing on the menu.

I have been here a number of times. Just had dinner with my kids there this evening. Food is typically good and drinks are fairly priced. All around I have been here a number of times and have always had good service and great value for the money spent. I do tend to sit on the sports bar side. All in all, I like this place.

We get their $7 large one topping pizza carry out almost once a week. You can't beat the price and it's better than any other pizza around. It puts all the chain pizza places to shame.

Really good service, nice atmosphere, decent prices. Average food, not disappointingly so, far from impressive. A safe choice.

Other than being a bit loud (we could have chosen to sit in the dining area, but instead sat in the sports bar), our experience was awesome in every way! The wait staff was great, the selection super, and the food was fantastic. I love Carrabbas, but now (in my mind) I'll be going here! It's just as good, or better and reasonable prices. The food was served to us piping hot and our meal ended w/ the manager asking us if he could do anything to make our visit better. AWESOME! Run, don't walk...

  • Jordan B.

So we heard this place was decent. We never got seated to find out. We had a group of 8, but the manager wouldn't seat us. we waited over an hour and watched the entire waiting area empty. I later tried to contact them and they never responded. Was not impressed. There are too many good places in this town to bother dealing with these jerks!

I love Monelli's, especially since it is a local, family owned place. I don't live in the area anymore, but whenever I come home this is one of the first places I stop at! Great food, from the appetizers to the burgers, pizza and spaghetti & meatballs. Also, there are always good drink specials! And now that there is no smoking, Monelli's is even better. Lastly, I've always had good service, everyone is usually very friendly. If you've never made it over here, you should definitely give it a try. From one Sicilian to another, this is a great place!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
