Super creamy delicious soft serve. I love anything with sprinkles, and they'll give you a cupful of rainbow sprinkles if you ask.

This place doesn't look fantastic, but the custard is so perfect. My mom and the rest of my family went here on a trip to the area. I was excited because I haven't had custard in AGES. They did not disappoint. I think my boyfriend and I paid $8 for two massive portions. It was a cold day though, so we found it hard to eat our size MEDIUM custards. The flavor was on point, and the toppings were perfect. I am still able to perfectly recall just how tasty these were. I mean really, if you haven't had Bob Jo's yet, you really need to go. I can see this being a trend for future visits. I will definitely get a smaller size next time though. It's rich stuff, and it's easy to let your eyes guide you instead of your stomach.

This place is as good as (literally) everyone says. Good, quality custard with interesting favors (blueberry cheesecake right now!) and great prices! My only issue is that it was hard to actually get into the parking lot haha. I drove by a couple times because you have to turn onto Quarry to get in - you can't actually get there from Fort. Also, their listed hours here on Yelp are wrong. I mentioned it to the manager there and she said she'd notify the owner. I have no idea what the actual hours are, but they're definitely open later than 11:30am :)

Great custard, great atmosphere, definitely a Downriver Wyandotte gem. I know people who regularly come from Novi and Livonia for the Custard.

This place is a downriver gem. I've been coming here for years. Their custard is great, service is fast. I typically get a vanilla custard cone with sprinkles or toasted coconut. Their custard is pretty thick but light and airy at the same time. I rated this 4 instead of 5 stars because they do not take debit card. I wish they would update that!

I worked there as a kid. $2.65 per hour back in the day. I would have seniors tell me that they meet there after the war and they had been married for years! Today it is as good as ever!! No charge. Bring cash. Huge portions. Great staff! Toasted coconut with chocolate custard; Just perfect!

I found myself Downriver with my father in law and my son. Neither of which have ever had the pleasure of tasting the greatest frozen custard on the planet. Seriously, if you haven't had their frozen custard, you MUST try it. Rich, creamy, deliciousness. It's amazing. I sent a picture of the building to my wife, to show her where we had stopped off. Her only response, "Dick move." LOLOLOLOLOLOL Really though, you have no idea what you're missing.

My childhood on a cone! Seriously the best frozen custard on the planet. My dad used to take us there all the time as kids and I have so many fond memories of enjoying custard on a hot summer day sitting at those old round cement tables. I was just there on Sunday and had the red raspberry custard, it was so good!

Creamy cold and so delicious. This is by far the best frozen custard. I can't eat Dairy Queen any more after tasting this ice cream. A downriver classic.

It's worth going to Bob Jo's even when it is 45 degrees outside. Great prices for a ton of delicious custard, in addition to rotating yogurt and custard flavors. This is the only place I have seen that has toasted coconut as a topping - delicious. When I had it with the coconut custard, I almost died!

If you like frozen custard, you should love this place. It's one of those super nostalgic places that just hits all the right notes. There's usually always a line and it always goes quick. Bring cash and get the chocolate and vanilla custard swirl on a sugar cone with chocolate sprinkles. Hnnnnnnghhhh... So good.

Just doesn't live up to the hype! Was sooo disappointed, because folks had really talked this place up & my expectations were high. If you want frozen custard, do yourself a favor & drive to Danny's frozen custard in Monroe. "You won't be sorry & you'll definitely notice the difference."

Anyone who rates this less that five stars has no taste buds or seriously needs to get them checked out. This place is great, lines are usually long & it's been around forever... That right there is a clue as to how great the custard is.

This might not be the best frozen custard in the world, but don't tell anyone Downriver that. Those are fighting words. This is excellent custard. A Downriver landmark for over 50 years, which many consider the jewel of the area. You will stand in a long line on a hot summer night but the wait is worth it. .They have chocolate and vanilla and a twist all the time, and a spotlight flavor. Some of them are better than others. Had strawberry recently that tasted artificial. Try to be there when they have pistachio. It really is as good as it gets. Highly recommend.

There is simply nothing that says summer like a frozen custard from Bob Jos. Day or night there's always a line, and once you've tasted the custard you will know why. The menu is short; cone, sundae and maybe one or two specialty items. Nothing fancy is needed though because the favor of the creamy custard is enough. Usually a fan of the twist but tonight I had the chocolate marshmallow and it was delish!

CASH only. CASH only. I had pineapple frozen yogurt. My wife and children had frozen chocolate custard. The custard was better than the yogurt. Custard was creamy and rich. Limited flavors. The building is old. The business is cash only. There are no restrooms. There are about 6 tables. Not much more. I'd rate the place higher if there were amenities. Kids make a mess; it'd be nice to have an area to clean them up.

If you haven't been to Bob Jo's you just wouldn't understand. This is a must for anyone in the area. If you're not in the area it's time to go for a nice ride. Best Custard you'll ever have.

I had a really crappy day. I was ripped off on eBay, had computer issues at work (thanks Uverse), my head hurt, I broke a nail, had cramps and I missed lunch because a certain take out place would not answer their damn phone. I was cranky as hell and my blood sugar was low low low. I left work early. This is the kind of day where you might end up in a bar drinking your sorrows away. I can be lushy but I hate to drink when I'm upset. I prefer to eat food that is bad for me, it's comforting. Bob Jo's was the solution. I have been wanting to try it but never get over here. I hiked my butt over here on a mission, I ordered a medium half and half cone and gobbled it up in nothing flat. Creamy, rich, satisfying and delicious. I immediately felt better. Was it good for me? No. Did I savor every damn bite? In my speedy fashion, yes. Will I go back? Definitely!

Creamy, light soft serve custard. These folks have their own "secret" recipe. Spring doesn't come downriver until Bob JOs opens. All others pale in comparison.

Wow - great frozen custard. With body and flavor. None of that watery yogurt or DQ here. The vanilla was just great which led to a chocolate cone. The texture is perfect. The chocolate was almost like a frozen mousse. I haven't found better in the area. My medium was huge but next time I'm getting a large since it's a long drive.

  • Liz R.

One of the best things about growing up Downriver! I've only ever had the chocolate cone. Awesome. The consistency is so smooth, rich and dense, but not in a bad way. Other yelpers say 'frozen mousse' and that's pretty accurate. Sublime chocolate flavor. My more recent trips to other custard places has yielded 'is this chocolate' confusion because while the custard is brown the flavor is bland. At Bob Jo's there is no doubt you've got a chocolate cone!

Not sure what's been going on with this long time local favorite but lately the quality in custard has gone down. People are starting to notice. Maybe the owners do not think they are but THEY ARE! Hope it changes soon. I haven't been back and neither has freinds and family who have been long time customers? What gives?

Went here for the first time in 33 years while recently visiting the downriver area, excellent custard had the twist with chocolate sprinkles, wish I had ordered a larger size. Sure wish we had a Bob Jo's in California. The place was really busy at 4pm on a Saturday. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the downriver area.

I just got an arrow shot me....Ahhh General Custard .....oh wait..brain freeze... OK...get my mind back on the real thing...rich, thick frozen custard. I haven't been to this place in over 30 years! We drove from Lincoln Park to here just to get the best frozen custard. I took some peeps from the office here. This place was exactly how I remember it, cement tables, cement benches watching traffic down Fort Street, and the best frozen yogurt. Chocolate for me, Pistaccio from bro and sis, Vanilla for mom....oh man...what a memory from childhood. Thanks!

amazing. i prefer chocolate but the half and half is also really good. the vanilla has a marshmallow type flavor that really adds to the chocolate. perfectly smooth texture. this place makes dairy queen look amateur

I have been coming to Bob Jo's since I was 3/4 years old. I have some amazing memories with this place. If any of you are in the area you need to stop here. Make you are explicit in ordering the "frozen custard" because they have a tendency sometimes to accidentally give you ice cream. You will know when you have been given the correct order of custard because it's like heaven in your mouth. The custard is almost like a dense mousse. I always get the frozen custard swirl (chocolate and vanilla) with sprinkles in a cup. It's the best custard I've ever had. Any time I've had it anywhere else it does not taste anything like it, nor as good. I always make sure, and it's been like this since I was a little girl, but not a summer goes by without me getting frozen custard at least once a month. I love you Bob Jo's! Thanks for the greatness that literally melts in my mouth, and the most amazing childhood memories. I looked forward to you ALL YEAR when I lived in North Dakota. Every single time we came to Michigan you were the FIRST location we hit on the first day of our trip. I have nothing but amazing things to say about you. Keep up the great work!

Tasty i have been going here since the 60's and almost bought the business in the late 80's. Still makes me smile to have a cone of thick custardy goodness. To bad my waistline isnt cooperating.

What an excellent place for groups of all sizes. We took our cub scouts here on a trip. The young girls were very nice and helpful to make sure that our boys had a great time.

Good custard, but would like to see some different flavors of custard. I will stick to going to Heres the Scoop.

They have good custard. I think that their half vanilla/half chocolate twists are TOO much chocolate and not enough vanilla - but that might just be me. I always forget this and end up wishing I'd ordered vanilla only. They also don't have coating/dips. If you want that you get a sundae with syrup. What they DO have is toasted coconut. :) I think this place is cash only. I'm sure this review would be better if I hadn't just reviewed Custard & Co (on Woodward just south of 14). Bob Jo's is great - but not as good as them.

Ok - got sucked in again....while the taste is great......the size is still pitiful.......a Large is what the small used to be and whats really aggravating is that there is no consistancy, I watched at least 3 people who's cones were larger than mine.... and then they didn't even fill the cone up in the bottom - it was hollow........but at least they didn't jack the price up again! They could use more tables or do something different with the ones they have......AND BRING BACK LEMON!!!! ;-)

Again, another place I grew up with. I used to look forward to spring because I knew that it meant they were going to open up for the season. Thick, rich, wonderful custard. The best around! Prices are extremely reasonable (cheap, cheap!!) and portions are huge. I know someone said they have shrunk, but I didn't notice that this past summer. They are certainly more generous than most ice cream places, especially for the price. They usually have the rotating flavors listed on the board, but if they don't, just ask. The girls are usually nice, but if not I cut them slack when they have been dealing with an endless line on the weekends. Speaking of, be patient. There will most likely be a line, but it goes by fast and it is well worth it! Best place for custard (or ice cream in general) downriver. A summer tradition!! Half and half dipped in rainbow sprinkles or a small sundae are the way to go :)

This is the best Custard EVER!! Absolutely cheap with giant cones! The best to get some and the go cruise Elizabeth Park and watch the boats! Thick, creamy delicious lick your lips and your honey next you ~ enjoy!

Simply the best frozen custard around. Been going here since I was a little kid and still me and my wife go here every other week or so. We would love to go more often but we don't want to weigh 300 pounds either. Keep in mind this is cash only!!

Better than Dairy Queen! Frozen Custard is so awesome. I like the twist with rainbow sprinkles. You only need to order a small. It will melt before you are done if you go any larger. Every kid in the world should have a Bob Jo's frozen custard.

On a Sunday night after visiting Grandma in Detroit, when Dad's car veered into the Bob-Jo parking lot instead of proceeding down Quarry, my brother and I knew it was the end to a perfect day! I now live in Minnesota, where we have Culver's Frozen Custard. It's billed as the best, but is too gelatinous for my taste. if Bob-Jo's delivered, I would gladly pay the rush fees!

    BEST. CUSTARD. EVER *sigh*
