Serafina’s Italian Bar & Grille Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Our family visited the restaurant to follow our favorite chef, Oscar (previously of Theodore's), who took over the Serafina's menu earlier this year. For anyone with taste buds, this place is a must. Disregard any older reviews on here about the food, Oscar has revamped the menu and hit it out of the park. Everything we ordered was fantastic. The fish tacos appetizer in particular are a religious experience (though they may burn off your taste buds, don't say I didn't warn you). The tartine -- amazing. The sweat potato gratin with horseradish is mind bending. The Peruvian chicken will change the way you think about birds. The bacon chowder, with its smoky flavor and rich undertones...sorry, can't type, busy drooling. Oscar and his line chefs are true pros and really great guys. You get the full benefit of this if you sit at the new "Chef's Table." We had the honor of being the first party to experience this at Serafinas (a carryover from Oscar's Theodore's days). Oscar gives you samples while you watch the cooks work and explain their tricks for making the food so very, very good. The actual table structure itself would benefit from a little more of an overhang--it wasn't really designed to be sat at--but I'm sure they'll correct this if the Chef's table catches on. The service had a few kinks that need to be worked out in terms of attentiveness, they seemed stretched thin over such a large space, but Oscar's food get's at least 8 stars out of 5, so we'll be happily returning soon. [P.s. Great Gluten Free options, labelled as such on the menu, and the kitchen is super careful and mindful of cross contamination.]

Delicious fish and specials. Lovely desserts. Great atmosphere and service. The fish is fresh and made to order. Really really great salmon. Don't miss this place for a dining experience in Holland. We brought an out of town business associate and she was very impressed.

Thank goodness for the wine. Service was mediocre at best and food was Meh! Calamari tasted burnt. The shrimp was fresh but way too much sauce. The quinoa was tasteless. My wife's pasta sauce tasted like repurposed pizza sauce. All that was for 2 stars. Then I walked into the bathroom...my mistake. 1 star.

We gave Serafina's a try for our anniversary because we had a nice gift card, unfortunately the meal and experience still wasn't worth the balance we had to pay. Thank goodness for the wine it was the only thing that saved the meal. Walking up to the back entrance gave a bad first impression, the back deck needs some major TLC. It was a nice night so we decided to sit outside anyway, unfortunately the experience didn't get better. I didn't expect a good view but I really didn't want to stare at the garbage either, this deck has potential, some plants, paint, and nice table settings could go a long way. The waiter was very friendly but he was wearing a dirty shirt which was not appetizing at all, and his knowledge of food and wine was lacking. The food was plated well but lacked in flavor, a pretty plate can only go so far. We had the calamari and linguini both mediocre at best. Overall my opinion is this is an over priced version of Olive Garden, very disappointing for an anniversary I will likely not return.

I always feel bad giving bad reviews but this was pretty bad which was odd because the atmosphere was pretty ok and the presentation was nice, however the food was not very good. The steak came out very well done when my friend ordered it medium and both of ours had no flavor and was not a good cut of meat. When I order a steak I Ignore the veggies and the asparagus was the only thing I liked on the plate, the rest went to waste. (And for a $27 steak that's just annoying) it was Rough and had a lot of vains. I had to ask the server 3 times for a a refill, 3 times for a steak knife, the salads were all pretty bad (although looked pretty)... The steak salad was tough like beef jerky, (side note... That's a $16 salad) The scallops in a pasta dish were covered in sand and were crunchy every time we bit down (although the sauce was good)... For the cost of everything, it was very disappointing. I only hope by writing this the establishment can see it and maybe make some changes because it could be a really nice restaurant if they worked on the food taste more instead of presentation. The only thing our table enjoyed was the toasted bread appetizer and almond cake they have me for my birthday. I also requested a romantic spot, they said they would put us next to the fireplace (which wasn't on) the rest of the restaurant was way more romantic feel then the fireplace so do not go with that spot if they give you the option. The rest of the restaurant is small but beautiful.

I ordered the linguini and my girlfriend ordered fish. Her meal came far off from described in the menu. My food was excellent. Waiter didn't bring us bread until her replacement meal was brought, after I had finished. ;( all in all quick exchange and food was great. Service lacked in certain aspects but made a great recovery.

The food, atmosphere and the service are all amazing! Great for the kids and entire family. They have large rooms to accommodate large parties and the portions are generous. I modified the Fra Diavlo dish to include a palomino sauce with some additional seafood and it was excellent. The chef was very accommodating and actually complimented me on the dish. I would highly recommend Serafina's!!!

A great dinner for our party of four on Memorial Day. Salmon, linguini with scallops, Peruvian chicken breast , and great wine made for a terrific meal. Will be back !

We had a wonderful dinner seated by the fireplace. We shared the appetizer of fish tacos that was very tasty. I had the espresso marinated pork tenderloin with risotto and roasted veggies. The accompanying bread and herb butter was a nice addition. The ambience is pleasant with twinkling white lights and not to noisy. It is easy to linger over a glass of wine and chat. Look for the buy one get one half off in the local paper.

What a great group of people, the food was excellent and the service was awesome. Pasta and pizza what could be better?! I would recommend you stop in and give Sarafina's a try

I have eaten at Serafina's a few times since the opening, and now that there is a new Chef, I fully expect there to be many more 5 star reviews! Hollanders have extremely high standards, and a level of expectation that has always been imposing (even since I was a kid in the 80s, when visiting Holland we always felt like we had to dress up and behave like we were going to church, ha!) so with that said, I feel confident in saying Serafina's is serving up the kind of food that this community can be proud of! Thanks in no small part to Chef Oscar's very beautiful and tasty presentations, I am thoroughly impressed with his menu; not that I'm a foodie critic, but I have lived in Los Angeles now for 9 years and it is now a HIGHLIGHT of my trips home to drive out to Holland with my family to eat at Serafina's. The food measures up to places like Mr. Chow, Boa Steakhouse, and Cafe Beaujolais, and as far as the service goes, my family and I have always been patrons of the various Vitale-owned restaurants in G.R. (Frankie V's, Vitale's off Leonard...) so we are happy that the manager at Serafina's lives up to and actually surpasses the level of service we have grown accustomed to over the last 20+ years. Joe Vitale is one of the most sincerely passionate and eager to please managers (and it doesn't hurt that he remembers us by name when we come in, an added bonus). Overall, I rate Serafina's 5 stars based on the affordable but high-quality food, the service, and last but not least, the ambiance (especially in the summer outdoors but the winter next to the fireplace!). I hope the folks on here who left less than a 4 star review will go back and give this restaurant another shot- they'll be glad they did!

Service, food and ambience were all top notch. Nice wine list too. The salads were fresh and tasty, the entrees were cooked to perfection and the desserts were delicious. Very happy to have stopped here for dinner on our visit to Holland.

First time here since the switch from ViaMaria's. Familiar decor and enjoyable ambiance. Would have liked to have seen the tables with tablecloths - that would have matched the decor much better. Had the Steak salad and the Neapoliteano. Both were done well and flavorful. The service was good and the waitress knew the menu well. After the meal (no drinks), we thought the price was fair and not too expensive. We'll be back!

This place is a bust. It started bad when we were seated with dirty, wet menus. We ordered cheese bread (aka bread sticks) and pasta dinners. Both the appetizer and dinners came out at the same time. The food tasted bad and the service was slow. It's simply Vitales food but, in a nicer building. Very disappointed and we will not be back.

Had a fabulous meal! Very impressed with the chicken Marsala. Nice to have outdoor seating and could enjoy the start of summer. Will definitely go back!

We dined here during the soft open and it was amazing--- the food was noticeably fresh and delicious. We cannot wait to go back and eat here again now that it is officially open! We got to sit outside on the patio area and it is just lovely! Hoping they get space heaters outdoors so we can enjoy dining al fresco into the fall!

Went here for a business lunch at 12:30pm, there was only one table of 4 there. We waited for about 3-4 minutes before one of the patrons felt bad for us, jokingly seated us and then was kind enough to go try to find a waitress for us. The waitress arrived and didn't apologize she'd not been able to get to us or the fact that someone had to go tell her there were customers to assist. She was very slow to even get us drinks so we simply ordered an appetizer and left. I also had to go find her so that she could give us our bill. It's surprising since we were her only table. It's too bad because it's a beautiful restaurant with nice decor. I've never taken the time to write a review before but this experience was so bad I hope that someone reads this and is able to avoid this disaster. Maybe new management would help?

Just had a miserable dinner here. We had reservations and were seated at a high table right next to the hostess stand. We asked to wait for a table in the dinning room. The service was very slow, no music, no fire in the fireplaces, view of the kitchen was less than attractive. The girl expediting food was running her hands in her hair, then pinning it up then handling the food! I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. Spaghetti was overcooked and there was no meat in the meatballs, they tasted of bread and were uneatable, I sent them back. We like garlic but this was over the top garlic. The silverware was dirty and the bread thrown on the table was cold. No water was offered or ever served. I did not dare try desert. I won't ever go back.

My husband and I went here tonight and had the worse food. My pasta of bowties with alfredo and spinach was undercooked and cold. My husband had manicotti was had some super sweet sauce on it and there was too much parsley or something in manicotti instead of ricotta cheese. The bread and the butter was hard as a rock. The soup was ok, but nothing to write home about. We only ate a 1/4 of our food because we both hated it and that is even after switching plates thinking maybe we just didn't like what we had ordered but no we didn't like any of it and decidied we would never return. No rating should be given to this place.

The good...most of the food was good. The bad...the service. We saw numerous tables served their entrees quite a long time before ours came ~ we had to stop our server and ask what has happened. We were given the traditional it should be right up but it wasn't. A table that came in after us had finished their dessert before our entree ever came. At the end of our meal 5 in our party of 7 left because we got tired of waiting for the dessert or check. The ironic part is our server was "training" a new server ~ yikes. Kitchen fyi ~ burgers should rest before placing on a bun or else you just serve meat on a soaked bread.

This place used to be called Via Maria's, a cozy little Italian restaurant with the best desserts and seating avail in a charming garden with twinkle lights. These days, the patio isn't open, even though this is the busiest time of the year, and the menu has changed completely. Pizza was burnt and not very generous with cheese. Used to love this place.... What happened?

Went here on a Groupon hoping to find a really good "Italian" restaurant in Holland. We haven't found one yet! As for Sarafina's, not much "Italian" on the menu. Shrimp Linguini was just sautéed shrimp on top of a "spicy" Marinara Sauce, nothing close to a tasty shrimp sauce. My husband had some kind of sautéed shrimp on top of a bland quinoa risotto, yuck. That's an easy short cut, just sauté a few shrimp and throw it on top of whatever, then $$$ Yes, the plates were nicely decorated, for that we give them an 8. We had a new server and he was very nice, but his male coworker was loud and rude. As soon as he found out we had a Groupon he rushed over grabbed our cell phone and scanned our coupon "prior" to us ordering... that was a first. The atmosphere was very nice but the AC wasn't working, so it was quite stuffy. I don't know if this is a constant problem. Dessert was the best thing here, but we are not sure if it's made here. Guess we will keep on going to Olive Garden for Italian... very sad! We won't be back for a long time for a second try, if they survive long enough.

Appetizer salmon skewers on grilled pineapple... Salmon was grilled to perfection, succulent and beautifully presented. The steak salad as an entree was also well presented, the six oz steak cooked to temperature we ordered. The restaurant was quiet and there is a beautiful restful Italian decor.

Visiting Holland for the weekend. This restaurant is excellent. Awesome food and service can't be beat. I enjoyed the Thai mushroom ravioli dish and my husband had a meaty, white pizza. Both dishes were excellent. I will return the next time I'm in town.

Very disappointed. The mango cuscocus salad was limp and tasteless. Appeared to be made the day before. For an entree I ordered the Thai Shrimp. I told the waitress I liked spicy foods. The meal was four medium shrimp swimming in sweetened coconut milk. No other flavors. We ordered taramisu for desert. After waiting 20 minutes, the waitress said they dropped the pan and lost it all. She promised a free desert in the future, but forgot to give us the certificate she had promised. Very slow service even though the restaurant was not busy. The dinner took us 3 hours! I would never go back. Can't wait until they go out of business and a good restaurant moves into the building.

I love this place! The food is excellent and they're very accommodating with any special requests. Every meal I've had was solid and i was surprised with the variety and depth of their menu. The decor worth going to check out by itself. The best Italian food I've had in West Michigan. Very Vegan and Vegetarian friendly.

From the moment we arrived they worked hard to take care of us, helping get some drinks for the picky members of our party as well as explaining the menu slowly (a couple of our party were not native English speakers). The manager took excellent care of us while we were in the restaurant, and the food did not disappoint. I had the Frutti di Mare pizza and it was incredible, honestly the best I've ever had. Our foreign friends hate pizza and I had to fight them off of my pizza it was so good. The rating of this place almost scared us off, but I'm glad we gave it a change. Came close to ordering another pizza for the road to eat for breakfast!

About the only thing this place has going for it is the decor. Service is spotty. We had a party at two tables. One table always got service, and the other (mine) didn't get: water, bread, or silverware. Food wasn't great. The pizza was more microwaved than wood-fired. Gummy, soggy, thick crust. The cheese was laid on thickly and would slide off as if this was a Little Cesar's pizza. There was a guitarist present who appeared to strum only instrumental versions of Led Zepplin songs.

This is a cozy place, but needs to step it up. The bread and spread that it comes with was great. Service was slow even with an almost empty restaurant. My chicken pasta dish had dried out meat and little flavor. For a $20 dish, I expected something great. My wine glass was empty for over half of my meal without an offer for a refill. There is great potential for this beautiful restaurant, I hope to see future success.

I had a terrific experience at Serafinas last week. The food was fantastic , the menu offered a variety of options for customers looking for Italian food or a more ethnic cuisine, and the staff was great! I will definitely be going back.

My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner there tonight! The location has sentimental value for us too, as this was where we ate on our first official date twelve years ago. We both thought the items on the menu looked great. We both ordered dishes with coconut quinoa risotto. The quinoa was shaped like a pyramid on my plate, making it look like a small portion. It was delicious though! His chicken and my pork medallions were both delicious as well as the goat cheese fritters and brownie. They helped make our dinner special with Happy Anniversary written with strawberry sauce on our dessert plate. They did go above and beyond by making us an aluminum foil swan (they looked up or knew that the traditional gift for a 10 year anniversary is aluminum or tin). There was a baked but and fruit treat inside the swan. Overall, a really great dining experience. They lost a star because the hostess seemed slightly stressed at times and there was cheese in my wine!

Went for dinner this evening with my husband and sister. The service was decent, although we were there for an early dinner 5 o'clock. The food was edible. I had the pasta fresco and it was mediocre, the "fresh cherry tomatoes" were barely pink in color, hard and tasteless. My husbands steak with was barely rare and my sisters spedini was way over cooked. My husband had the chocolate divinity for dessert, it was good, but three small round cake discs with a strawberry and a bit of strawberry sauce for $6 was a bit over priced. We'll go somewhere else for italian net time, maybe on of the chain restaurants, their food is much better.

If this place took a dive in quality when the name originally changed to Serafina's it is back up there with Via Maria's high gastronomical standard in a setting that takes you out of Michigan to the Mediterranean. Victor took excellent care of us and it was thanks to his recommendation that my wife and I visited this place since Via Maria closed down. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the menu is highly original: dishes are made with excellent quality ingredients and 5-star presentation. I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys eclectic fine dining choices. Prices are rather high, but they match the quality of what is served.

We ate here for the first time, with a party of 7, having an early dinner on Friday night. Everyone left satisfied. We had drinks, an appetizer, and entrees. Service was fantastic, the decor is fabulous and the food is pretty good. Not, "OMG! You have to try this place" good, but it was good.

  • Gail B.

Maybe it's not fair to rate Serafina's after only one visit during their soft opening, but we will not be going back unless we know that they've hired a different chef. I only based this rating on the food (not service) which tasted as though it came straight from Costco or Gordon Food. I had the signature Serafina's pasta which had very little in it other than a few tiny pieces of sun dried tomato and was so bland and tasteless that I asked for dried pepper flakes. My husband had a wood-fired pizza which was also strangely without taste - no sauce, CANNED mushrooms and doughy crust that tasted as if they left out the salt. It seemed to us that they were catering to a pre-conceived notion that people eating out in Holland will only spend $10 on a meal. Wrong! We are people who like good food even if it costs more than $10-12. So disappointed that they couldn't even pull off a decent wood-fired pizza like their predecessor, Via Maria's.

I am giving this restaurant a four because of the character inside/outside. The service and food were very average. I think whoever is managing this restaurant needs to sit and have a few meals with their significant other.....changes such as cloth napkins and water out of glass would do wonders. Due to my exceptional company I had that night, and the character of the building, I will be returning......and if necessary, change my rating:).

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
