This is my all-time favorite place to eat. I've considered making special trips back home just to eat here. Seating is limited, but service is really fast. Be sure to get Feta on your Gyros... you'll thank me later. I miss this place so much.

Not going to lie, one of my favorite lunch spots for years. Small location, gets very busy around lunch time but food is incredible. Reminds me of my favorite hot dog stand in Chicago.

I grew up in Chicago and when I moved to Holland I spend months looking for a good gyro joint. Mr Kozaks is it. I would give it 5 stars but no one has been able to give me a good Italian Beef like back home. The ones up here taste more like a french dip. Them meat and bread are not quite right.

    The gyros were incredible!!

I've eaten Gyros all over, Greek town Detroit, Chicago, Mad Greek in Baker California (which is incredible if your driving from Vegas to SoCal) and other's around trying real hard but, yeah just but. Kozak's is the best. Actually Kozak's II is the best. The Grand Haven location is really good but the Holland location is notably better. Long lines at lunch? Yep. Peak in the closet size kitchen. It's par for the course when something is this good. If he was in New York you would wait forever, and you would it's that good. Just go, and get the Gyro plate with an extra pita you'll need it. So good I wish I didn't live in Colorado sometimes. Well at least during lunch.

If you are looking for a good Gyro, you have to try this place. Not really set up to dine in. More of a take out joint. Very busy at lunch time. Try to be there before or after 12-1p. They do have a drive through. This place is great !

Went here after quite a few recommendations from friends. We were absolutely pleased! The gyros were very filling, I would have liked a little more sauce and veggies on them but they are not stingy with the meat! I personally love skinny french fries, so I was happy with them; especially french fries doused with cheese sauce! I do think that in 2015 having to pay extra for a drink refill is a bit stingy and the staff are not especially friendly, neither are they unfriendly....they are there, that's about all I can say on that subject. It is best to get your order to go, there are literally 8 bar stools, but that is fine! We have found a new favorite & looking forward to our next visit. We are actually planning it as I write this review!

So we were looking for something different to eat while in holland on vacation. Bit off the beaten path but easy to find. Very small but I love small places. Burgers, dogs, and gyros, plenty of extras. Can get fries with chili and cheese. Minimal seating but the ac works well. They have a drive thru but we came in to experience it. Great little place. Son had the Italian beef and loved it. I had the chili dog and will be back for more. True hidden gem. Takes a bit of time to get food but worth it.

If you ever want to grab some Gyro with stack of meat in them, then you should stop by Kozak! Very generous and tasty!!!

Oh my goodness! That was the best Italian Beef I have had outside of Chicago. We were just passing through Holland and I Yelped Italian Beef and Mr. Kozak's popped up so we thought we'd give it a try. I'm not an Italian Beef aficionado by any means but it was spectacular. Juice was rolling down my arm, always a good sign, and the bread was crusty outside and soft inside. The beef was so tender! It was a good portion, satisfying my husband and nephew, no easy task. The peppers were very flavorful and cooked just right. Yes, we all loved the sandwich! Then to top it we got chili cheese fries and they were wonderful too. The chili was homemade I'm sure. The cheese was standard. We all shared one portion and it was plenty. Another gentleman stopped in and got a gyro and said they were the best around. Maybe next time. It's a little hole in the wall place but there is plenty of parking and some tables in the back with umbrellas. There's a few stools inside but it is mostly a carryout joint. It's not far off 31, just a little over a mile so if you are traveling by like us I would say definitely stop and skip the McDonald's. They also had a good selection of Chicago dogs and something called a Chicago tamale which interests me but again, next time. The gentleman who got the gyro said traffic can be bad sometimes but it wasn't when we were there and we were in and out quickly.

Was recommended by some locals. After checking Yelp I decided to give it a go. I drove through downtown trying to find this place should have taken I-31 or Hoover Avenue from 16th Street to 18th street. As others said this place only has about 8 bar stools. I was able to get one. The gyro was very good. Mine had plenty of tomatoes and sauce but no lettuce. It also had a lot of meat. The shell was on the smaller side but I was full after eating. The french fries were pathetic - skinny little things and very few. With an XL drink it came to $8.43. Very reasonable. Drink refills are 50 cents for XL and 25 cents for smaller cups. That's annoying. Should give at least 1 refill. They were fairly busy. Not the friendliest bunch of workers (as others said) but not rude either. They also have a drive thru. As others mentioned they also serve hotdogs and hamburgers but I can't comment since I didn't have them. I would give the place 3.5 stars but since I can't it's more of a 3 then a 4 star.

One heluva good gyro! It had a lot of meat, great sauce and fresh tomatoes! The thin fries are really good as well. One if the best gyros I've had.

Small. Charges for drink refills and any extras you might want. Counter staff is brusque and to the point. In my 15+ years of searching for a gyro that matches Mr. Kozak's, from MI to FL and many places in between, I've eaten hundreds of gyros and not one comes close to the quality of these. Best food in Holland. Maybe the best gyros in the country. Too much character for many Hollanders, which is perfect for me.

I don't know why this is not a more popular spot. I have been going here since I was a kid. I don't live in Holland anymore but any time I come back to visit my family I have to make a stop at Mr Kozaks. It's rare to find a Gyro of this quality outside of a big city. Between that and the fresh cut fries this place is a Holland staple for me.

Good food. Customer service worst in Holland. Called in an order. She said to hold and put the phone down. I know she laid it on the counter because i could hear all that was going on. 15 minutes later i drove ther. Still on hold. Told them their phone was off the hook and i had been holding for half an hour. She accused me of costing them 30 minutes of call in orders. I said your kidding. She said no. The older lady hung up the phone and it rand. The younger girl said with a smerk "see". I dont think she still understands that when the receiver is on the counter it won't ring. If i had not gone in they would have lost even more customers. I will not go back. My family will not go back. My co workers all know the story and my friends will as well. I like the food but there are plenty of other places with good food and who know how to treat their customers with respect.

Little place you might drive right by if you didnt know it was there. Good Italian Beef. Decent polish dog. Good fries.

  • Barbara T.

People telling me it is really good. Just got the gyro it was tasty, lots of meat, not much tomato and could have had a little more cucumber sauce (ask for a little more on the side). I will be back to try some other items!

The best Chicago Hot Dogs and Gyros! Fresh and delicious. Also good hamburgers. It's a small place and can get a bit overwhelming for the small kitchen but well worth the wait.

Gyro's were good but not amazing. Never been there and was unaware you walk in and pick up (unless you want to sit on a stool).

Indulge in your wicked temptations here at Mr. Kozak's. Chicago Dog is perfection. The Italian Beef is so spicy and so moist. Whoa. I crave this place whenever I'm in Holland.

They messed up our to go order so bad. Can they not read, or write? I will not go back their again. The food was not good. The order was so wrongly done I wonder if they can even comprehend simple English. Never go there.

Gyro, and a Chicago dog, is just omg

  • Lauren R.

Ok, but the celery salt was poorly distributed and it tasted not so much like a Chicago style hotdog as a whole.

Small amount of seating, but I frequent this place OFTEN!!! Gyro w/Feta & peppers. This is one of my favorite places in a town with VERY few.

I hadn't had a gyros with feta, and I have to say it's pretty good! I was in the mood for something I hadn't had one in a while, but was surprised that there was a spot like this in little ol' Holland. I think I paid about $6, and there was a lot of meat. Good taziki sauce. I will certainly keep this in mind for my next craving.

I just finished writing a review for a restaurant here in Chicago where I now live that lots of people feel serves some of the best gyros in Chicago. The reason they did not get a better rating is because as far as flavor goes they can not come even close to the flavor at this gyro stand I used to enjoy when I lived in Holland, MI. The best way to describe the flavor of Mr Kozak's gyros is to say they are better than sex! I wish this restaurant was here in Chicago so I could eat at it instead of the local restaurants. I'm sure there have to be gyros here in Chicago that taste this good, but in the year and a half I've lived here I haven't found them yet. The service when I've eaten here has always been very friendly and that is another major reason for the 5 star review. While most of my rating is based on flavor friendly service or lack thereof can easily bump a reviews ratings 2 or 3 stars in either direction. In this case the food really deserves the 5 star rating, but the service has impressed me too. There is VERY limited seating and it's very utilitarian so it's certainly not going to be a place to take a first date, but on the other hand if you're already very comfortable with your special somebody then this very casual atmosphere would be fine. As far as the portion size their gyros are huge and well worth the cost. You get plenty of bang for your buck here. If you're looking for some of the best gyros you will ever taste I say this is a must try restaurant. It not only rivals but it beats the flavor of gyros I've had here in Chicago. Give this place a try if you like gyros and you'll be hooked!!!!!

Stopped in for lunch. Tiny seating area--I counted 8 stools along two counters. We ordered gyros/fries/drink special. A heaping order of gyros with tzatziki sauce, onions and tomatoes. I read about the feta on top, but thought it would have been included when I ordered "everything". It wasn't. The gyros was hot and good, though. A little greasy, but that's to be expected especially when they grill the meat before serving it up. Fries were fresh cut, if a little soggy. Service was slow, though. We must have stood behind the counter for about 5 minutes before anyone behind the counter recognized we were there. Granted, they appeared to be working diligently preparing orders (especially the drive-thru, which seemed to get more prompt service than the walk-up customers) but a simple "Hi folks, be right with you!" would have gone a long way. Really, it seemed as though the ladies behind the counter thought we were invisible. Also, a 50 cent charge for a drink refill is kinda stingy. Especially when you have to fire off a flare gun to get the attention of the folks behind the counter. On the whole, good gyros, decent fries. Mediocre service. We'd come back.

The Gyro's here are hands down 5 star. Limited seating and long wait at lunch time is the only reason it's not a 5 all-around. This just became a regular place to dine for me.

Wow! Finally, a place that says it is an authentic Chicago style and it really is. I had their Gyros special with fries and a drink for just $7.55. The Gyro was packed with meat and just the right amount of sauce, onions and tomatoes. Great taste! the French fries were made from real potatoes and were perfect! I can't wait to try their Chicago style dogs next time.

Really good gyros, just wanted a few more veggies. Very good though.

Decent gyros, but smaller than we're used to in Chicago. Also, the sauce was a little bland. Overall good, but not impressive.

Great little joint just off of the beaten path in Holland. Their hot dogs are the obvious "go-to" but they also sell a ton of gyros. Being as the owners are of Greek descent, this makes perfect sense to me. Also, the baklava is delish and spot-on. What I come for, however, is the Italian beef: sumptuous, delicious and with the just the right about of peppery goodness. Get your bun dipped in the juice for a perfect (and messy!) sandwich. I wish that the fries weren't always so "well-done", but they are usually just an afterthought after a big sandwich. Staff is always helpful and wearing a smile.

food is solid. a little overpriced for what you get. very small indoor seating. fits maybe 8 people. two girls working today. the cashier was generally nice, nothing great. the cook girl was storming around with an angry look and actually rolled her eyes at us cause she needed the mustard bottle back. minus the girl having a really bad day, i'd probably come back once in a while. looks like most of their reviews talk of good food and bad service. if both were good, you can overlook food that's a touch overpriced.

Mr. Kozak's II is located about a block from downtown Holland. They seem to have a small indoor eating area as well as the handy drive thru. The Chicago hot dog was my choice from their menu. Fortunately I did not have a big appetite since the dog appeared to be kind of on the small side. So if you are super hungry you may want to order two of them. As for flavor it was delicious. I have no previous Chicago dog experience to compare it to but I was satisfied with their ingredients.

Good gyros, but check their hours before you make the trip, they close early.

I have only been there once only because I live in Chicago. I was shocked to not only find a Gyro place in Holland Michigan but for it to be better than most of the gyros by me! I'm pleased to say this labor day weekend my kids and I are taking a trip to michigan to visit my sister ~whispers~ and for Kozak's Gyro! Mr.Kozak you might want to look into a Kozak's lll in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

I was so happy to find a Gyro place in Holland Michigan. I moved from the Detroit area about 6 years ago and Mr Kozak's was a little taste of home for me. now if they would just start doing a Detroit cony dog I would have to give them 5 stars....
