Okay..this has been weighing on my mind to update. My last review was kind. I gave a solid three stars. I must say however, Sammy's deserves a solid four, in reality more like four and half. Since I've been more actively Yelping and it being summer and all, cooking stovetop and in oven not so much. I tend to think I am a Italian snob whose not really italian because I do have some kitchen skills, However this summer, I have took advantage of the glorious weather and home scratch cooking has took a much needed reprieve. I like to cook, but italian in summer not fun although, I do love my meatballs and homemade meat sauce all year round. This is where Sammy's comes in: A quart of meatsauce, OMG divine and a large order order of meatballs on carryout is 15 bucks. It almost cost that much to make at home. I boil some noodles feeds 6 I really appreciate Sammy's it is very good, this buisness does as much carryouts as dine in as well as catering. Props to Sammy's job well done!

Very nice place to eat. If you want to dine in, you have to wait for a table. I think they encourage take-out. Great food, good service.

I went with the wife to this place as I read the reviews on Yelp and everything looked good. We ordered the calamari to start and the pasta for 2 with the meat sauce along with a side of meatballs. The breading on the calamari was thick and it didn't taste fresh to us. The pasta comes out and and it was a really big portion for two. I thought that the meatballs for the price were very small. The pasta already had the sauce on it and it seemed like the pasta was still wet when the greasey sauce was added. The meatballs lacked flavor we left over half of the pasta dish there when the waitress asked if we needed a box I just said no thank you. We paid and left I will not be going back.

Great food. Spaghetti to go bambino is perfect amount with leftovers for the next day-- chicken Parmesan wonderful, salads great (love the Italian dressing), and love the stromboli. Reasonably priced and yummy dishes!!!

Sadly I could only give 2 stars, at most. The waitstaff was clearly understaffed for a Friday night. They didn't know if they were coming or going! Because it's a small place you can overhear them all and none were too friendly. May have been how overwhelmed/lacking in experience they were though. The food around us looked great. I ordered lasagna, my husband had chicken fett. Alfredo. And we had the mozz. Bread. The bread came first. Undercooked, boring taste, and just a big disappointment. The bread took a long time and the food was even longer! Meals are not served with soup or salad so you sit, hungry, for quite a while. When the food did come..more disappointment! His meal was so plain with little taste. It was watery and just boring. Not worth the price. Mine came out heaped with meat sauce which I thought was a good sign. Well, the stream went away very fast because the lasagna itself was still cold! I waited long enough for the waitress to come to the table before going to stand in line. She took the plate after I told her and she said she would microwave it for me!! I told her do not put my food in a microwave, I can get a Stouffers and do that. She said it would be about 15 minutes to put it in the oven. I was hungry and irritated at this point. No apology, no offer of a manager, no sight of a manager. We had planned for dessert but skipped that, and her tip, and took my food to go. And as it turned out, it was just as boring as my husband's! Not a way to earn customers with rude staff. I highly doubt we'll return despite the close proximity.

food and price are excellent. Servers were great and personable. Only two drawbacks were the servers were constantly busy taking care of carry out orders, both taking them and checking the customer out after paying. Carry outs are obviously a big part of the business here. Would have given five stars except for this. Needs a bigger location.

So delicious! I spent a lot of time in Italy and this place truly tastes like authentic Italian!! A hidden gem of downriver! Especially if you're looking for a good carry-out place!

I was disappointed.....my fettuccini was really watery and the chicken marsala was soggy and chewy. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I am so happy this place exists in little but growing Woodhaven. The staff is super friendly and even if its a bit small the place is CLEAN, decorated sweetly, & above all the food is GREAT! I truly dont think I have ever even thought a dish was mediocre. The Mozzarella bread and ranch is AMAZING & so is the Calamari. When going for pasta I just cannot get enough of their Vodka sauce its sooooo good! Best of all is their PORTIONS so generous I ALWAYS have left overs thank goodness!

So happy to have this charming little place in Brownstown! The food is so good. Order the Spiedini and Arancini. They are awesome! Servers are very good.

Pleasantly surprised to find this little gem tucked into a strip mall by Kroger on West and Telegraph. The Italian brand coffee is so good! And anything you order "Bambino" is enough to satisfy. They offer gluten free pasta, better than I expected. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked so appetizing and beautiful. Great service, we will be back, often!

I was here a few months ago. My mom liked it more than my brother and I but it was alright. We got the garlic bread and pizza, spaghetti, and a mini cannoli, meatballs, italian sub, and some special beef marsala type appetizer. The last few things were good. There was too much of whatever type of cheese is on the bread, had a very strong flavor and we didn't love the sauce on the pizza and pasta. I eat cannoli here in Boston alot and it just wasn't very good. I hate to be a downer but we just prefer Baldos nearby, the one place my picky family loves consistently. The setup and the service here is nice but the food did not match the hype for us

I was nervous to go here after reading some bad reviews but wow! I am so glad my husband and I gave this place a chance. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs and my husband ordered pizza. Both were outstanding! Our waitress was super friendly and made some good recommendations. We will definitely be coming here again.

We just ordered for the first time at this establishment and our order was wrong. We made a call and was astounded by there unprofessionalism. This was just suppose to be a courtesy call, in case someone got our order, but they were just to busy to care. To bad, this is exactly how you loose customers.

We can't say enough good about the food and the staff at Sammy's. Its small (only 20 seats) but carryout is always an option. There isn't a bad dish on the menu from pizza to pasta and the best antipasto salad I've ever had! If you can only pick 1 dish you must try the vodka penne or the vodka sauce on any pasta...they even had an amazing pizza with vodka sauce when we were there. The staff remembers us everytime we go in and always makes us feel like part of the family. Sammy's is a don't miss!

Best homemade Italian food downriver! We've never eaten in we always carry out. I can't say enough about how wonderful everything taste. We've ordered the sauce and made our own noodles at home..Taste just like my grandmas! The best gluten free pasta, and pizzas around!!!!!

This is the best restaurant I have been to in a long while! The food is fresh, the recipes are authentic and tasty. The staff is amazing, they really care! Laura, is my favorite server! I drive a half hour to just to have my favorite....Michigan salad. A very clean place to eat, and a real gem ! I looove this place!

Excellent pizza and salads. I've tried the buffalo chicken pizza, the meatball pizza (a special of the month in June, but the waitress said Sammy will make things by request, so ask if it's something that interests you), pepperoni pizza, and the house specialty -- chicken marsala pizza. All were wonderful! The pizza crust tastes like fresh, crusty Italian bread, and the toppings are of high quality. Yum! I've also had the Greek salad and the antipasto salad. My husband and I have split the small (bambino) size salad as an appetizer before pizza. The servings were quite generous, and the ingredients were fresh and delicious. I haven't yet explored the rest of the menu -- the pasta, the sandwiches, the wraps, etc. -- but I'm eager to do so and hope to add to this review when I do. I highly recommend Sammy's Cucina for lunch or dinner!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
