A bit pricey for a local breakfast place. Food was pretty good though, and prompt service. The waitress forgot a couple of our items, we had to remind her. Cash-only, which is a bit of a nuisance.

So disappointing. Do not eat here! This breakfast was worse than a McDonalds breakfast and very expensive for what you get. Literally straight off the Sysco truck.. No flavor. I wish there was an option for zero stars.

Two things to know about the Purple Palace: 1) NO SUBSTITUTIONS. Really....not any! 2) Cash only! My husband and I got married in York Beach and return each year for our anniversary. We look forward to a meal without our 4 kids. This was a huge disappointment. We both came here (separately) the morning of our wedding and it definitely wasn't this bad back then. When we returned this year it was HORRIBLE. Molly-Os next door was packed with a line out the door and there were only 2 people at Purple Palace. If this isn't obvious to the owner sitting behind the cash register I'm not sure what is! If Purple Palace were even decent some of the overflow from Molly-Os would come over to PP. But they don't. My husband ordered a ham and cheese omelet with bacon. The omelet was orange. A freshly made omelet has a marbleized look to it between the mixed yoke and white. This, was orange. Like it was poured from a carton of "egg". Instead of crumbling up the bacon into the omelet there was a strip of bacon folded into the omelet. Both of our meals were really disappointing. Especially for $40! We will not be returning.

If you find yourself in York looking for breakfast and choose Sandy's Purple Palace because the place next door, Molly-o's just closed, and wonder, how bad could it be?, I have your answer: really, really, really bad. We weren't initially put off by the dingy decor or inflated prices, and the coffee was good and hot, but the food was absolutely horrible. Three of us got omelets, served with dry tasteless potatoes and dry wonderbread-style toast. The watery eggs covered cold canned mushrooms, slimy onions, and worst of all, the cheese was rancid. Yuck! We paid $10 each for inedible food. It was really nasty. Does the board of health know about this? Steer clear.

Do not waste your money at Sandy's Purple Palace. My family grew to love this restaurant in the 90s when we made yearly trips to York Beach. After telling my boyfriend about how great it was, and dreaming of a delicious Belgian waffle all week, we made our visit this morning. First we made the mistake of ordering the small-sized drinks, which are served in plastic Dixie-cup sized cups. They charge $1.35 for $0.10 worth of beverage, which is gone in two sips. When I ordered the Star Spangled Belgian waffle, I was told the waffle maker was broken and I would get pancakes instead. What I got were two pancakes with a mealy aftertaste, due to the fact that they were clearly made from a mix. And I've had pancake-mix pancakes much better than this. Instead of serving fruit on top, the pancakes were globbed with a gelatinous 'fruit topping'. One was supposed to be raspberry and the other blueberry, but they were entirely indistinguishable. The side of three sausage links, each single sausage costing over a dollar, were completely flavorless. My boyfriend ordered the corned beef hash meal with eggs sunny side down. He got eggs that were sunny side up, hardly cooked on the bottom and completely raw on top. They could not have been on the stove for more than 10 seconds. The corned beef hash was definitely straight from a can, and might've come straight from the microwaves that were operating behind the counter throughout our meal. Our meal totalled $24.80, $30 after the tip. We both agreed that the food would have been passable at a much lower price, say $15, but this was definitely not the case. We would say that Sandy's Purple Palace should be on the show "Kitchen Nightmares," that is, if we thought they still deserved to be in business. This restaurant is clearly taking advantage of people who are either unfamiliar with the area and couldn't know how bad it is, and/or people (like myself) who remember the quaint, quirky, and high-quality breakfast place it used to be. Too bad.

Hey fellow Yelpers, Went here this morning looking forward to breakfast. Ordered the Hobo special. (Home fries with a sausage patty on top, covered in cheese, and some scrambled eggs on top), came with toast, and I also ordered one pancake on the side. Also tried one of my girlfriends sausage links. (she got the French toast) First off, the food was bland. Very bland. I've never tasted sausage before that didn't seem like it had any spice what-so-ever. The pancake wasn't bad, but was horribly over priced. It was a medium sized serving for $3.00! Wow... The eggs were overcooked, with zero fluff to them, basically think McDonalds eggs that come with the "Big Breakfast". Except less inspired... Yea... I've worked in the food industry as a cook, so o feel bad for any cook who totally screws up a meal, but looking around the room, and seeing the other patrons (of which there weren't many), our food looked akin to theirs. The whole meal cost us over 30 with tip... OUTLANDISH for breakfast. On the plus side, the coffee was good, our waitress was nice, and the interior looked right for the area. I would not recommend going here. There is another restaurant next door that does breakfast, although the name escapes me.

When Stretch cooked years ago, it was pretty good. Now... Awful. AND a rip off. $10.75 for an omelette ($7.75 + $1 mushrooms + $2 cheese) that is small and flat topped cooked so it's not fluffy. This is a $3.95 omelette at best. Mollys next door far better and you won't get the mega cranky old lady attitude.

Nothing spectacular but we go every time we're at York. The service is great and though it's a real small place the turn-over seems to be quick and we've never really had to wait too long. No complaints...we'll continue to make this our breakfast place when we visit Short Sands.

This is the worst restaurant I have eaten in (at least in the last 20 years or so). I am not joking. It is the worst! It was so horrible, I felt compelled to go online and write about it. I ate there this morning at can easily say it is the "worst breakfast in the history of breakfast"...that I have ever had. Their sign says they've been open since 1946. It appears they haven't updated their standards since then. I am sure in 1946, this was par for the course. Today, any diner I have eaten at, including Denny's, will give you a much tastier and higher quality breakfast for a much lower price. The food was really, really awful. The ingredients were the cheapest I have ever seen served in a restaurant. They are simply bad cooks. I have never eaten food this bad, even in a school cafeteria. I wanted to like the place, but the kitchen area, visible from the table, was a total mess. The prices are high, especially for ME. For $11, I got a bacon & cheese omlet. This consisted of eggs, cooked poorly, a few whole strips of bacon (not cut up), and a slice of the cheapest cheese money could buy...worse than velveeta. The toast was wonderbread...barely buttered, no butter on the side. The homefries were dry, but at least seemed fresh. The coffee tasted horrible....although to be fair, good coffee in a diner is extremely rare. I want to say something nice about the place, but cannot. The waitress was pretty?....hmmm, the home fries were ok? The coffee wasn't an embarrassment? There is no reason to eat at this place. There's a lovely pastry/cupcake shop less than a block away. After eating at that horrible place, I had a great eclair and moved on with my day. In summary...epic-ly awful food....amateurish restaurant...Manhattan prices.

I have been going to Sandy's Purple Palace since I was a young girl and I can say they desrve every star I can give them. It is the epitome of home cooking. Sandy greets you as you walk through the door like you are long lost family (even if its your first time). They whole crew stays bright and cheery even when @#$% tourists with @#$% attitudes walk through the door and expect "Manhatan" service. The food is just like what my gramps would cook for me on weekend visits, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the prices are worth every penny.

Sandy's takes the "cutest breakfast nook" award for York Beach! By using the term "nook" I am indeed implying that it is a small & cozy spot, meaning you may sometimes need to wait for a table. Once in - the service and food are good for the price. If the wait is too long for you, go right next door to Molly's - shabbier atmosphere, but food's actually a bit better. Enjoy!

EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK. On the drive from York to Ogunquit, my family and I spotted Sandy's and having skipped breakfast we stopped, entranced by the purple building with a beautiful beach front view. New England is full of hidden gems and I figured nobody can screw up breakfast. I was horribly wrong. We ordered 2 egg whites omelettes with ham and onion and my mother ordered a mushroom omelette. Here is what we got: Let me begin with the eggs which could not have possibly come from a chicken or even any mammal on the planet earth. They were watery and slightly brown. Inside the ham and onion omelettes were whole deli slices of ham. Not the good kind but the kind you buy on sale from Market Basket, maybe 2 for $1 that you have left in your fridge for a year and you throw immediately in the trash when it is found. The onion had gone bad and were slimy. I still have the taste in my mouth. What was worse was my mother's mushroom omelette. The mushrooms were canned and had not even been cooked prior to be putting on in the "questionably egg" omelette. I am not done yet. The mushrooms were shriveled and tasted like rotten oysters. My brother, not believing the sight, took a bite of this atrocity and it crunched. Why in God's name would a mushroom omelette crunch?! My brother, then, unable to swallow a fishy tasting mushroom that has likely been on the shelf since the 1940s and is likely a case of Botulism waiting to happen, had to spit the food into a napkin and then close his eyes to keep himself from puking. After a 20 minute wait for the check we threw down money and got the hell out of dodge. We were so sickened by the rank tasting food we immediately acquired TUMS, mint tea, and bananas and had to sit outside for an hour to make sure that any projectile vomit would not occur on the car ride home. I can honestly say that the breakfast I had at Sandy's is the worst meal I have ever had in my entire 32 years of life. Subsequent to this review, which is also going on Trip Advisor, I will be lodging a complaint with the Maine public health department. Yup, that bad.

Our waitress was wonderful, besides that everything was low quality and expensive. The one thing that drove me to write this review was how totally unprofessional and off balance, Deborah aka "cook-owner" was. I asked our waitress to sample there so called Award Winning Chili and literally the woman goes NOPE!! $3 for a bowl. Out-loud!! Can you believe her after I just dropped $25 on a tasteless breakfast for two. It was the rudest gesture I've ever seen. But I made sure to ask her her name and then thank her for being so kind and generous to her customers. On principal alone I will never return and I won't support a business who treats customers like this.

Cash-only place that has pretty decent food. I didn't think the prices were bad, especially for a tourist spot so close to the beach. It's like york beach's version of a diner (not sure what some of the negative reviewers were expecting). My omelet was really good, and I would probably go back (although Molly O's is worth a try too).

Unlike Lacey P, our waitress was nice and provided good service. This is one of those places you might expect to see on the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." We happened to go on a Monday and had no wait. My wife had the basic bacon and eggs with toast. I had a ham and cheese omelet. Both came with home fries. The coffee was good and the order was delivered quickly. The food was great. I want to go back and try their waffles or pancakes which looked really good. Nothing fancy, but plenty of character with the tight quarters and all purple color scheme.
