Our server Katie was awesome, unfortunately our meal was less inspiring. I had ordered the Lobster Pappardelle which by the description should have been delish, while the lobster was sweet and tender the dish overall was too salty. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan the portion was generous , however we both lost our appetites when he found a large black hair in his meal . They did comp his meal and dessert

This place really is as good as it gets. Fresh, wonderful food, great view, excellent service. RJ and his team know how to run a place that gets you to keep coming back. I had the lobster Pappardelle which was prepared perfectly, wonderful sauce and excellent home made pasta. We also had great mussels to start. My husband had the whole fish which was outstanding. So delicious - can't wait to go back. Oh and did I mention the lava cake with gelato.....mmmm

I enjoyed my first trip to Gigi's with my wife and another couple. We experienced fabulous service, a lovely ambiance near the fire place, and wonderful food. Highlights included great seclections from the wine list, mushroom bisque, which was taken to another level with white truffle oil, lobster gnocci, and perfectly cooked swordfish! While they don't have a gluten-free menu, they accomodated one in our party very nicely. We are looking forward to our next excuse to go back.

We had a wonderful meal at Gigi's. So delicious, and creative. Lots of vegetables. We brought our 9 and 12 year old kids along - homemade meatballs were deeeeeeelish! Desserts we out of this world. Friendly service. No attitude. Cool modern space, but not overdone, I totally dig this place. Go. You must.

Ambience, service, cocktails, and food was fantastic. We were a party of 10 and got great prompt service. Flounder piccata was fantastic. People on group raved about linguine and clams. Raw oysters were delish as well. Waiter Nick was very knowledgable and gave great recommendations. Will go back before our vacation ends.

R.J. was awesome to deal with when planning the Bridal Shower we hosted a couple weekends ago! He met with us and was very responsive on any questions we had! The interior is beautiful and the food was phenomenal! The drinks were delicious and made with fresh juices - all in all I highly recommend GiGi's, can't wait to get back there for dinner some night!

Excellent food, staff and atmosphere! The ribeye steak melted in your mouth, the calamari was flavorful and the porchetta was great too. Highly recommend this restaurant.

So we ordered everything here. Oysters, 2 apps, 4 cocktails, cheese and sopressata, 2 entrées and desert. This joint says they are Italian but they don't taste like the Italian my mom used to make, but that's not always a bad thing. This place was different. It had an Italian start but used lots of fresh fresh ingredients in a more farm fresh way. The chef really let a lot of the ingredients speak for them selves and let their flavors stand out. The service was great, our waitress Brinta was too notch and we left feeling like she was an old friend. This was a 5 star based on tastes and creativity but lost a star on not quite perfect execution, but we will def be back. Great view and great dinner.

Chicken Parm was completely black on bottom and way over cooked and dry. Yuck, would never go back!

This would have been 5 stars if we only considered the entrees, but there were a couple of near misses. The good/excellent: Arrived 10 minutes early for a 7:30 reservation, we were seated in less than 10 minutes. We ordered three different seafood entrees and they were all excellent, great flavors with a mixture of classic and new in a very balanced application. The service was great with proper attention without excessive interruptions. The near misses: The toast that the ricotta appetizer was served on was burned which distracted from the subtle flavors of the ricotta and figs. The gelato tasted very good, but there were ice crystals and a texture more like ice milk than ice cream. We will probably return and would not be surprised if the next review is five stars, I got the impression that customer satisfaction is important to the staff.

So delicious! To start, we had the garlic bread. If you want a real style garlic bread, this is the one for you. The bread was soft and crispy on the edges with garlic pieces crumbled on top. AMAZING! In fact, it was so good we got another order! From there we got the linguine and clams and the dish impressed. With it's delicious in-shell clams as well as pieces of clams through out the dish, any seafood lovers jaw would drop. The pasta was cooked al dente which gave it a wonderful texture and spices that let your taste buds know the dish isn't boring. All in all the service was great. Not one complaint! I will definitely be back!

I went with a date for the first time last Sat nite. I really wasn't impressed. Fried calamari app was cold. (fast but cold...) Then the chicken parmagiana was cold too. Not sure why chicken was so expensive (25) - maybe house made pasta but I didn't see that on menu. Sauce was pretty bland. The chicken itself was good, but really not worth it. My date liked his scallops though. (yes, I'm picky..I like hot meals :) Had to ask for another glass of wine and beer. Also kept forgetting to ask for bread...so didn't get to try it. Service not very 'warm'. Not sure I'd try again soon. However - I loved the deck overlooking the town and beach.

Several years ago I reviewed this restaurant when it was called Blue Sky and was under other management/ownership. Since then it was taken over by a new group, so I thought I should take the time to review it once again. I have been frequenting Gigi's since it opened three summers ago. I returned again this past weekend with my husband and three other guests (party of 5). I was eager to see what we would find on year #3 for this restaurant. I'll cut to the chase and tell you that we were not disappointed. We were seated right away for our 6:30PM reservation. We opted to sit outside on the porch and enjoy the view of the ocean just down the street. We ordered a variety of mixed drinks and wine and everyone was very happy. R.J. (one of the manager's - along with James) brought us out a complementary appetizer of gnocchi and it was delicious. I ordered the calamari appetizer and loved it. Another guest ordered the crab cakes and were very happy. We all ordered a mixture of steak and fish dishes and everyone commented how tasty the meals were. I'm a stickler for having my meal arrive hot, and hot it was! My only concern is that consistently it seems to take a long time for drinks to arrive once ordered. I'm pleased to see that Gigi's continues not only to thrive, but to grow and consistently deliver high-quality meals in York Beach. I'm looking forward to another summer at Gigi's!

We were excited to visit Gigi's after hearing who the new owners were. Knowing their reputation for good food, we recently went in for dinner with another couple. We made reservations for 4, and weren't asked if we wanted to sit in or outside. We got seated outside and it was a ridiculously hot evening (91 degrees at 7:30pm), but we went with it and sat there. Honestly, that was a mistake. We didn't enjoy ourselves like I think we would have if we were inside. When I stood up at the end of dinner, my cotton shorts were soaked from sitting in the heat. Our server (I forget her name) was wonderful. Very attentive, very thorough. She was great. Everything we ordered came out at the perfect time. For appetizers we ordered the calamari, Gnocchi, and a scallop special. Everything was delicious. Yummy bread with oil for dipping was placed in front of us. Dinners came out looking very good. Two in our party ordered a pork chop special. My husband said the pork chop itself was wonderful, but the sides that went with it weren't very good at all. They were very overcooked. He's not very picky about his food, so I was surprised he had a complaint. I had a Mahi Mahi special which was good, but honestly, kind of weird. It was served with pasta which was cooked to be crunchy. I knew it was going to be like that, but really, eating it was a different story. All I could think of was of when I accidentally overcook my lasagna and the edges are chewy and hard. It just wasn't great. The fish itself was wonderful. But I think if it had been incorporated into something different, it could have been so much better. Dessert was a hit or miss. I got the bag of donuts with dipping sauce, which I shared with our table. It was so good. Huge portion, great for sharing, and so incredibly yummy. I'll probably go back just for the donuts some night. Two in our party got the salted chocolate gelato. I'm not sure if it was salted improperly, because there was a heaping portion of salt on the top of it. We've eaten a similar gelato dish more than once while in Italy and I don't think this restaurant served it correctly. Once we got through the salt pile, it was delicious. But it wasn't a great first spoonful. Overall, it was good. Not great, but not bad. I'm kind of sad about this, because I wanted this to be our new favorite place to eat. We will probably go back at some point to try again, but we won't rush a return visit.

Spectacular food. Truly wonderful. We've eaten a lot of Gluten Free (GF) pasta over the years, and this was by far the best. The tomato sauce was outstanding, the chicken parmigiana was made without the breading for us (and was amazing), the clam sauce was great, and the flank steak dinner was tremendous. I really can't say enough about how great the staff was, how great the food was, and how accommodating they all were. One of the best restaurants we've eaten in, GF or not.

If there was a choice for no stars, I would choose it. Either the other reviewers were family members or they were locked away for the last four years and this was their first meal out. The "sauce" on our meal was like watered down ketchup and the meat was worse than a Swanson's TV dinner. Such a perfect location but such sub-standard food. Very sad and disappointed. We frequent the area often and were hoping this place would provide the sorely needed anchor restaurant.

The food was good stuff. My friend had the Flounder Picatta while I had the Chicken Marsala. While the fish and meat were perfectly cooked, the sides were not so impressive. This really goes for the broccoli rabe that came with my chicken. I wish they opted for something else, because it was soggy in the sauce and mashed potatoes. The risotto that came with my friend's dish was OK, but the cheesy sauce could've been richer.I did really enjoy the fried capers atop his dish and the fried mushrooms that came with my own. The food was indeed flavorful and fresh. Service was pretty OK. I'm not sure if my waiter was new, but he had trouble answering our questions (e.g. type of fish that was part of the Whole Roasted Fish entree, what type of cheeses were used to create the sauce for the risotto). He also failed to give us with popular dishes, saying that everything was good. We kept trying to push him to tell us his favorite dish but he kept saying that "it depends." Ultimately, I had to turn to Yelp for a suggetsion. I sat outside, and I recommend you do so because the view is gorgeous. I will definitely come back if I make another trip to the area. Parking in York isn't even close to as stressful as in Ogunquit. Reluctantly, there is a large parking lot a minute walk away from Gigi's. You may have to circle around to find an open spot, but it is cheap (meter parking @ $1/hour).

Just finished dining at Gigi's. One of the worst dining experiences in quite a while. Arrived on time for our reservation and had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated. It then took another 10 minutes for someone to greet our table and another 10 for wine to be served. Order oysters and the house made ricotta for apps. Oysters were small and shucked poorly. The ricotta was decent but very small for the price. Entrees included a poor attempt at baked stuffed lobster and an almost inedible pizza. Both arrived cold. We had been curious about this restaurant for a while, but for sure will NOT be going back.

Food was genius and luscious. Staff was incredibly accomidating and friendly. Try any of the homemade pastas or desserts. The drinks are also FANTASTIC, James makes one hell of a Manhatten! The outdoor area is the best spot to catch a post beach drink in all of York, the outdoor bar is sexy with loads of space. If you are looking for five star, you found it!!

To keep this review in perspective, I grew up in Jersey with an Italian mother so I have very definitive views on what Italian food should taste like. Ummmm... this isn't it. The atmosphere was really nice and they had soft, good, live music playing. It was chilly out (by this now Californian's standards) and they had a door wide open. Brrrrrrr.... But that's just me. People from Maine probably thought it was balmy. :) Ok, so the food. We were hungry (I *may* have been hangry to be fair) and ordered the pizza and garlic bread appetizers. After waiting a long (LONG) time and no sign of our waitress in sight, a gentleman walked up to explain that our pizza burned and they were making us another pie and giving us another order of garlic bread to make up for it. Well that's nice.... But the waitress should've said something earlier and... I'm starving! Just because the pizza burned, doesn't mean you can't at least serve the garlic bread!! (Yes, quite hangry now. lol) More than a few minutes later, the appetizers showed up. The garlic bread was soggy and the pizza had no taste. Literally, no taste. Looked good though. Someone from our party had been to Italy and said the pizza there has no taste either. So maybe it's authentic? ;) Main dish for all of the adults was chicken Parmesan (we were boring), kids got pizza (woohoo!) and chicken nuggets. Upside? Kids pizza was better than the appetizer pizza (it had taste! go figure!) and my 9 year old liked his chicken. Downside? None of the adults were thrilled with their chicken. Cutlet was too thick and (you guessed it), kind of tasteless. Reviews were great for this place on yelp, but our party of 5 all agreed it's a solid 2.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
