Awesome place. The best stop in Yarmouth for lunch. The soups are imaginative and tasty. The sandwiches are delicious with a good variety that is sure to please everyone in your party. My daughter is a vegan and I'll eat anything with a beak or feet and we always agree on Clayton's. That and the folks there are just plain nice.

I love love love the sandwiches at Claytons! I usually get the Thai chicken or the Chicken Cobb made into a sandwich (it usually comes as a wrap). While the food is great they often forget to pack any baked treats I order and have forgotten the cheese and balsamic vinegar on my sandwich a few times. It's also disappointing that they don't give you a pickle with a to go order but they do when you eat there. Seems silly since you are paying the same for both and pickles go great with a sandwich!

Great fresh soups! Chicken pesto soup with dice of crusty bread was amazing, best soup in a long time. Thank you!

My 9 year old and I both got the BLT (their way). We both agree it was the BEST BLT we ever had.

I was looking for a place to get a decent sandwich for lunch- but this place was so much more than that. I had the Santa Fe Chicken Wrap- it was delicious! There are coolers with any kind of drink you could want. And the chocolate macaroon- I have no words. It was literally bigger than my fist, and the bottom was dipped in chocolate. Amazing! The entire dessert case looked delicious- so many choices. I wish we lived closer because I would like to try everything on the menu. There is a cute little candy shop toward the back of the shop and an espresso bar. This place has it all.

Remember the line from Forrest Gump.... "Life is like a box of chocolates.... you never know what you're gonna get"? Well, that kind of sums up how I feel about the soup selection at Clayton's. On any given day, you get 4 to 5 different soup selections.... from creamy mushroom to Italian Wedding, Butternut Squash, to Hungarian mushroom. I hear their chowder is great, but I never seem to make it in early enough to catch it. That's the one downside about Clayton's... their soups are so popular... they tend to run out fairly quickly. So there have been times my wife and I have gone in at 5pm and their soups are limited from being sold out. All in all, a great place to grab a half sandwich and soup. And the soups are quite "experimental" but in a good way. In other words, some very unique combinations... but they usually work. And yes, they claim to have a famous chicken salad, or maybe it's "world's best"... I don't remember how it's marketed... but it's either mentioned as famous or best. And it IS pretty darn good. The secret? Grapes and blue cheese dressing. I know, right? Doesn't sound like it would work... but it does. Bottom line... Yarmouth is pretty limited in good spots to grab a sandwich and bowl of soup. Thankfully Portland is 10 minutes a day. But... if we can't make it to Portland... Clayton's is definitely one of our "go to" places. If you like soup and a unique variety of tasty sandwiches... you'll enjoy Clayton's. Oh, and P.S. Their desserts are HUGE, delish, and to die for. If you're hankering for a 2 pound cupcake that looks like a pillow more than a dessert... you gotta hit Clayton's for dessert alone.

The service and baked goods are tremendous. The food is always good. The breakfast bars are not to be missed. If you haven't been a thousand times like me, I'd recommend it any time.

This is my favorite lunch spot in Yarmouth. The soups are awesome especially the butternut squash. I also love the Greek wrap. I eat here about 3 days a week for lunch and I've never been disappointed. Sometimes I call ahead to avoid standing in line but sometimes I just wait in line because it's nice to get out of the office! They are always busy at lunchtime so if you don't want to wait, definitely call ahead. I generally get my food to go but they do have space to eat inside and tables outside when the weather is warmer. They also have prepared foods for dinner which are always very good. I don't eat meat but I hear from my co-workers that the chicken salad is amazing. The staff is friendly and helpful. They generally have a lot of people working and they are quick. Yarmouth is lucky to have such an awesome spot!

Oh Claytons, I love your lunch sandwiches. In fact, I gave you four lovely stars (perhaps deserving of more)...and that still stands. But this review is for breakfast. You have so much potential for the best.ever breakfast sandwich. Not kidding. Grilled sourdough bread, crispy bacon....but the eggs - what have you done here? They look to be baked in a sheet pan and cut to size? A fresh fried egg elevates a breakfast sammy. The bacon on my sandwich was crispy, the sourdough bread amazing. The egg I took off and threw out. Untapped potential to be #1 for sure. Great coffee by design coffee (Although the carafes were in need of refills when I got there) and can't knock the breakfast pastries.

I gave it a 5. Because I love freshness and good quality ingredients. I like its laid back atmosphere, occasionally a bit noisy. The parking lot is always packed but somehow as if by magic a space is alway open. The staff works well together, everyone has a smile (important), orders are taken efficiently, you find a table and 5 minutes later your meal is brought to you, I'm not sure how they remember who ordered what, but they always do! They also have take-out, even items for a fast dinner not just snack stuff but that which will go well with a good bottle of wine. Baked goods that are as good as they look.......so I was told by a very skinny young woman so her opinion may be a bit suspect...if I ever lose 30 pounds I'll try one and tender my opinion. They also have a large candy counter with dozens of 3 gallon candy jars, serve yourself with scoops and cello bags (don't mix them together however or you'll have to go sit in a corner and repent. My favorite are the Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans. My favorite sandwich there is the Claytons Famous Chicken Salad with grapes otherwise known in my day as Chicken Veronica. I noticed a couple of not so fair reviews, one concerning Panini's not to their liking, they should have just said something, Clayton's would have made them something else and everyone would have been happy. The other review was their dislike of the atmosphere, these people should have turned around at the door if this was not their thing, rather than wait to go home, log on and complain. Nope......I don't work for Claytons, I don't know anyone who works there, nor who owns it, I just try to be fair, describe the place and the food quality. That's what is good about Yelp, if the reviews are honest, it helps everyone, both the consumer and the business. These days before I go to the expense of eating out, I go to Yelp and get an "average" reading. Nope....I don't work for Yelp!

Great place to grab lunch. I went around 12 noon and it was very busy. The food was great and I got very quick service. If I go there again, I would call ahead and place a phone order. I would certainly go back!

I was eating here everyday for lunch (Mon-Thurs) and I stopped a couple of months ago. I've probably been there 60 times or so. Their soups are usually pretty good. Their sandwiches are good (although they'd be better if they made their own bread as their bread is just so-so). What stopped me from going is the meal I order each time for lunch, was sometimes one price and sometimes another. Only one guy at the place would up charge me (everyone else was fine) and then argue with me on it's price (it's not on your menu, oh yeah I guess we need to update it). I mean the difference was only $0.25 but I don't want to have to argue with you. After the 2nd time of ordering from this guy (not sure if he was the owner or what) I decided I didn't want to deal with it anymore. I was dreading going if he was working the cash register (which is pretty stupid since going out to lunch is supposed to be fun). So, rather than deal with a petty argument, I've taken my $32 a week somewhere else. Disappointing.

I'm on business passing through. OMG - the Butter Nut Squash soup was amazing and the curry chicken salad was awesome. This place was great. Everyone was nice too. Clean. Priced well.

I just moved to Yarmouth about a month ago and Clayton's has quickly become my favorite go-to spot for coffee, breakfast, lunch, and/or sweet treat satisfaction. I first visited at lunch time on a Saturday and found a line from the cash register out the door. Clearly, this is a popular place with locals! Clayton's has an extensive offering of hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, salads and home made soups, as well as deli salads, quiches, pasta salads and two locally famous mac and cheese varieties. I had the curried chicken salad sandwich, which was excellent. Clayton's also offers gluten-free bread options and gluten-free baked goods as well, which I really appreciate given my dietary restrictions. I have subsequently tried the Thai chicken satay sandwich (also excellent) and have brought the husband, kids and grandparents for lunch, and everyone has enjoyed their various lunch choices. At breakfast time, grilled breakfast sandwiches are on offer if you're in a savory mood, and though I haven't tried one yet, judging from the number of people I have observed picking up phone orders or enjoying them at the cafe in the morning, they must be pretty tasty. Personally, I always want sweet baked goods to go with my coffee in the morning, and Clayton's definitely delivers on that front! They offer an ever-changing variety of house-made, freshly baked (and still warm if you're lucky) scones, muffins, coffee cakes and breakfast bars. You do have to make it in pretty early to pick up the yummy breakfast items, as they are typically completely sold out by lunch time. Never fear, they also have dessert-type sweets like pies, brownies, layered bars (triple layer pumpkin bars, triple layer grasshopper brownies, etc), cookies as big as your head (my kids like the giant chocolate chip, my husband and mom are big fans of the ginger molasses), tartlets, giant cupcakes, and macaroons. I should also note that I have noticed there is always at least one gluten-free breakfast pastry and one or two gluten-free desserts on offer, which is awesome--and their gluten-free turtle brownie is the best brownie of any kind I have ever tasted. Overall, highly recommend this local favorite! Oh, and also, they serve Maine's own Coffee By Design varieties. Mmmmmm.

A really great place to stop and have lunch. The food is terrific, the service is really solid, and there's enough variety to make everyone happy. I would whole-heartedly recommend Clayton's.

This is a great lunch spot with amazing, homemade soups, great sandwiches, takeout dinners, and desserts. it gets quite busy at lunch and isn't the sort of place you linger and talk, so takeout is a good option.

What a great cafe of salads and sandwiches along Route 1 in Yarmouth. Got the grilled marinated chicken breast sandwich on italian bread. The bread looked like it was lightly grilled and was phenomenal. Loved the sun dried tomato pesto and the lemon dill mayo. Everything tasted high quality and was worth every penny of the $7.25 for the sandwich.

Returned to Clayton's for third year during our Maine vacation. The highlight if the meal was the Buffalo Chicken chowder. Not too thick with lots of potatoes. Mustard on ham and Brie panini was a bit much. Love their beet salad. Very busy but seems to be full of locals.

I've been to Clayton's many times in the last 10 years, but it had been over a year since I walked through the doors. I was expecting the same slightly gourmet, tasty and well presented fare as always. I was so disappointed. I ordered the chicken salad salad, with a side of gazpacho. My main complaint was that we announced that we were eating here, and the food arrived as if to go piled high on a cheap piece of plastic bowl with the salad dressing hidden inside the lettuce somewhere. Shame on you Clayton's. the salads were clearly pre made, when someone ordered" for here" the chicken salad was thrown on top, and handed over with cheap plastic forks and knives to eat it with. The cherry tomatoes were hard and tasteless, the dressing was glumped together and hard. The curry chicken salad was tasty, but impossible to eat pile so high on top of the salad. There w as no place to recycle the trash when we were done. The gazpacho was okay, but nothing extra ordinary. I wouldn't recommend going there.

Visited Clayton's for the first time after reading 5 star reviews. My wife and I each chose one of their new paninis. They were terrible. Each piece of bread and the inside was slathered with a spicy and very salty mustard. Someone should tell them that mustard should be a condiment, not the main spread. I had a Cuban which was supposed to have pulled pork + ham + cheese. There was a tiny amount of some sort of tasteless meat. The ham was definitely Boar's Head or some other brand of plastic meat. Even the cheese was coated in mustard. My wife's Ham and Brie panini suffered from the same hosing with mustard. The sandwiches were inedible. The salt content was enough for a week's ration. Their deli sandwiches may be goopd - no idea but my guess is Boar's Head. The desserts were tasty and good. I struggled to give them 2 stars.

I've tried just about everything here at one point or another and Clayton's has never let me down. Most people take out, but there's also plenty of seating if you want to take a moment to enjoy your lunch along with the latest of issue of the Forecaster. The highlights as I see them in no particular order are: their turkey sandwich, their famous chicken salad sandwich, and that they sell wine. My next conquest? The Downeast Salad (Mixed greens topped with chevre, pine nuts, and dried cranberries.)

The food is very fresh and tasty. However, I'm never comfortable here. The tables are crowded together, and the line to order is pretty much in everyone's way. It's difficult to see some of the offerings without losing your spot in the line. Better to do takeout for me.
