Let me start off by saying that out server was great and very friendly. Based off the reviews on Yelp we were excited to try this place out but we're very disappointed with our experience. We sat in the back and the table behind us had just about finishing their food. It looked delicious. I asked what they ordered and it was all three of the dishes I was thinking of and each said it was excellent. Again, couldn't wait to order. We started off with the fried green tomatoes and the fried oyster appetizers. Mine tasted great, I had them add goat cheese cause that's how I like it. It was served on top of their cole slaw. I think the tomatoes could and should stand on their own. My husband order the fried oysters and said he's had better, but no big deal. My rating is a result solely from our entrees. I ordered the shrimp and calamari Diablo. I don't know what it was, but the pasta and shrimp tasted grainy/mealy and the dish had a lot of oil in it. The taste was totally off and I couldn't finish my plate. My husband ordered the Parmesan crusted cod. It came with asparagus and cheddar mashed potatoes. The fish was clearly undercooked. We let the server know and she took it back. When she brought back the food the chef had reheated the same piece of fish and replated it to look nicer. I know this because our server said he was going to finish cooking the fish for us. Needless to say, the fish still didn't taste right and in the back of my husbands mind he was scared he was going to get food poisoning. The potatoes were very good. There was no apology from the chef or a visit to the table from the manager and the restaurant was not busy at all. We received the bill and were charged full price, no discount or offer of a comped dessert. I've worked many years in the food industry and find this unacceptable. I would have loved to go back and try this place again, everybody has an off night, but it's not going to happen.

Loved my entire meal. Come here occasionally and this place always delivers. Friendly and knowledge staff help me order just the right meal. It can get crowded though and there is no room for larger parties.

First off, our server was very friendly and the fried green tomatoes were great, though my wife had to suggest adding the goat cheese to make it really stand out. My disappointment comes with how the manager handled my dish when the cod was clearly undercooked. The best they came out with was to reheat/cook the fish. No offer of a brand new plate, switch to a new dish, or any compensation such as halving the price, free dessert or comping the apps. Didn't really enjoy the meal thereafter because I was still thinking food poisoning in the back of my mind. My wife got the diablo and thought it was a little off texture wise. Also got the fried oysters which were below average.

I was out doing some shopping in Crofton on July 3, had a craving for steak, so I pulled out my Yelp app looking for restaurants nearby with a good steak. For some reason, Allison's came up on the list, but after reading the reviews I didn't really understand why they were listed for steak.....but they still sounded good, so off I went to give it a try. I will agree with some of the other reviews, this is really more of an Italian restaurant than anything else, and once I saw the pics of the lasagna from some of my fellow Yelpers, I lost my craving for steak. I arrived around 8:45pm...their hours were posted as being open until 10:00, so I thought I'd have plenty of time. But when I walked in, everyone was seated around the bar and the dining room was completely empty. A young lady came up to greet me and informed me that the kitchen was closing at 9:00, that she had sent everyone home early for the holiday, thinking they'd be slow. As it turned out, this wasn't the case, as a few people came in after I did as well, and this poor girl was slammed! She was bartending and waiting tables for everyone in the bar area, as well as serving as hostess......she had my sympathy! But she did it all with a smile and a great sense of humor, so thumbs up to her! I did order the lasagna, which was really probably the best lasagna I've ever had. Really.....try it! Served with a side of sauteed vegetables, it was just the right consistency, the sauce was delicious, lots of cheese, spices were just right.....absolute perfection! So why only 4 stars instead of 5? While I realize this young lady was working alone, I'm not so sure of the wisdom in sending home your crew on a holiday night. Also, there was no bread or salad offered with my meal, and when I finished, she said "You're ready for your check, right?" rather than asking if I wanted dessert or coffee. Again, I understand she was busy, but I would have liked one of their desserts, even if it was in a to-go container. But I'll definitely go back and give them a chance to get that fifth star.

The service was terrible. Our party of 6 walked into the restaurant only to be seated at a 4 person table. The waitress says, "I will let you all figure out the seating" and scurries away. What in the world!? Terrible first impression...we didn't stay so I can not comment on the food. :-(

Great place to eat. As another Yelper stated, you can make it as nice or laid back as you want...they seem to be a bit of both. Great selection ranging from chicken dishes to pasta to the Allison's burger. I'd recommend the fried mozarella or fried green tomatos..the marinara is delish!!! As is the bread and sweet butter they give you. Overall a great place to grab a delicious meal.

We stopped by on our way to the airport and had a great experience. I ordered the steak and it was cooked perfectly. Everyone at the table really enjoyed the meal and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I would visit regularly if I lived anywhere near the area!

Small place located in a strip mall along with a Rite Aid and Burger King. The strip mall is on the part of Defense Highway that intersects with Rt. 301/Rt.3. There is more than enough parking available in the lot. The decor is plain yet intimate. The service is typically prompt and attentive. The menu is somewhat limited BUT from the appetizers to the entrees and desserts, everything is cooked with a lot of care and attention to detail. They may not have 100 things to choose from but they have mastered the menu options that exist. - Their fried mozzarella is very tasty and nice sized. - Steak and cheese sub is obviously not authentic but a cleaner and more balanced sandwich with nice flavors. Steak is tender and well seasoned - The Chop House Salad and Chicken Grill and Fried Brie Salad are both money. Nice portion sizes, fresh veggies, perfectly prepared chicken......soo wonderful! Healthy eating tastes great! - The lasagna is one of the best I've had. Probably better than my mom's (and if my mom knew how to use a computer she'd read this and kill me). Great flavors working together in perfect harmony. The chef knows how to season his food. While this spot is garnering more attention, it's still very much a hidden gem. Bonus: They usually have coupons floating around in the local paper as well as on their website. Great food plus savings? Yes please!

The Cheers of Crofton. There are many new chain restaurants available along route 3 in Waugh Chapel but none compare to the service you receive here. The staff remember you, the ambiance is friendly, and the food is good. Take the time to visit Allison's and you will not regret it.

The service was good - above average, and pleasant. The food...well...it was OK - edible, not great. Lasagna was OK. Burger OK. Too many menu items contained shellfish or pork, and therefore off-limits to my Levitican diet.

Cozy and quaint, Allison's opened just about two years ago and is one of those places you almost have to know about to find. Located in the Priest Bridge strip center of Crofton MD on Defense Highway Allison's serves above average new American cuisine and remains one of the Bowie/Crofton/Annapolis area's "best kept secrets". We love the Fried oyster appetizer and typically fight over who gets to order the Hickory Grilled Pork Chop with Jalapeno Cranberry Sauce, Basil Red Skin Mashed Potatoes, & Creamed Spinach. Nightly specials are offered. Seafood entree's are a standout along with some of the pasta selections. Service is generally good, although we have encountered some inexperienced waiters on occassion. Overall a great neighborhood stop. However, our most recent visit seemed to lack some of the pizzaz of Allison's early days. We are hopeful that is not a trend. I know it's overdone, but their Tiramisu is fantastic. Everything a good Tiramisu should be and the perfect ending to good meal. hardypartyreview.blogspo…

Great food and service from a little place in a strip mall. This place is totally devceiving and it serves up some great fare! The staff is very friendly and I've been here with both big and small parties and they've been able to handle us seamlessly. The cornbread is amazing so be sure not to fill up on it! We've brought our 2 year old here as well.

First visit to Allison's and we were very pleased Quiet restaurant with very good service and food. We had the shrimp corn chowder and chicken breast lemone. We will definitely visit again. Our compliments to the chef.

One of our favorite go-to places. Consistent, high quality of food and presentation. Friendly service. A cozy, comfortable restaurant. Big winners - happy hour drink prices, apps (esp. oysters, calamari, moz sticks), excellent grilled salmon salad, hearty seafood pasta, chicken/angel hair, steak frites. Nice desserts and good coffee. Dined there 25+ times past 2 years and continues great appeal.!

Just had dinner there. Starting from the beginning, very polite staff. We were able to sit right away at 6:15 on a Saturday. I hope that's not a bad sign because this place ROCKS. A bread bowl was put before us with a cornbread cake that was INCREDIBLE. The appetizer was fried mozzarella BRICKS! Delicious. We had the Chicken Limone and the Crab cake dinner. Both very good. Although the menu was limited, that should NEVER be a cause for a lower rating. Go to Applebee's if you're looking for a huge variety. This food was excellent. We ate everything and came away without feeling overly stuffed, but there was so much food to eat! What this tells me is that the food is prepared in a healthy way...I won't go into details on this, but trust me. You're not only eating good tasting food, but it's good for you as well. I can tell. :) We didn't have dessert but I heard a rundown on the choices and they sounded yummy! Maybe next time, we will be coming back!

We tried to make reservations for a Saturday afternoon but we're told they didn't open until 5pm. Allison's agreed to open early to accommodate our party. The food and service were excellent. My only question is why was the men's bathroom plastered with Boston Red Sox articles deep ORIOLES territory?

We had reservations for Mother's Day. We each ordered different dishes, and appetizers. Everything was delicious. The salmon was particularly good. I've been to Allison's several times and I've never had a bad meal. Service is great also.

Allison's opened when your choices in the area were Burger King and McDonald's. They spruced up a little old Italian pizza joint into an actual restaurant. As new places and chains have come in, they have held their own. It is a solid stand by. The owner lives just miles away and is involved. My wife has Celiac and has to do gluten free and it has never been an issue. Our kids order a split dish from the regular menu and there is always a coupon floating out there. It fills a void between glorified chains and overpriced pretenders.

My husband and I live in Crofton and dine here at least once a month. The food is great and the service is excellent! Grace is awesome and always remembers us. The first time we came back she remembered our names but we didn't remember hers! That's the type of attention you receive there. They are all always attentive and accommodating. The menu isn't huge, but what is on it is very good. They also do specials for variety. The atmosphere is warm and intimate. It's the perfect local dining establishment and a real gem of a surprise in a strip mall!

This place was awesome! Good food and good service. We called ahead of time and they even opened early for us because we were coming from Arlington. I got the crab cake sandwich and it had big lumps of crab which you don't find very often! I would recommend this place whether you are going with your family or going out on a date.

Fan-fn-tastic! I travel a metric ton for my job. As such, I get to visit loads of establishments for dinners and whatnot. I will say that this place has some of the best foods I have eaten on the road. Been here 4 times, got a wide assortment of dinners. Every one was exactly what I was looking for. The Balsamic Chicken was delectable, the Grilled Italian Sausage was unreal, the Lasagna was just....yeah. Absolutely recommend this place, great food. I will say it seems like they are perpetually understaffed but sitting solo doesnt really bother me.

Hmm monthly dinner with the male parental and we need to try something new! Neither of us are wanting any chain, so I check out thee YELP to help a chica out. So Allison's is located in this random strip mall, you can't see if from the main road, but if you see a BK you have hit the right spot. The place is unassuming, and you would have no idea what to expect just by looking on the outside. The place is quaint, and it wasn't too crowded. They appear to have specials pretty regularly, and they looked delish. The menu is fair sized, it changes for lunch/dinner. Service was prompt, and attentive. Bread basket had some sort of herb bread and this bomb cornbread. I loved it's sweetness, just the way I think it should be. On this night I ended up with fettuccine Aurora, that has shrimp, lump crab, spinach and artichokes in a pink sauce. The dish was a perfect size, the proteins were plentiful, and it was seasoned nicely. Here is the goof, I totally ordered something else! I ordered the Penne Pasta with Italian Sausage and somehow got this. The funny thing is I didn't care because it was just so good! My dad ordered the Chicken Limone which he said was just as good. He totally cleared his plate. Pretty cool neighborhood spot, I'd definitely come back and try something else, probably the specials!

Strip mall restaurant where the chef knows what he is doing. Food was very good. Great cornbread at the table. This is what we call a neighborhood gem and we will be back.

We came for lunch and had ordered a salad with fried brie and a crab cake sandwich. The brie was a glorified mozzarella stick and the greens looked like they were right out of a Costco value bag. The crab cakes were disappointing. Both dishes felt like they were not hot enough. I have a bad back and found the chairs uncomfortable. The service was great, however, and the dining area is pleasingly cozy and a bustle with activity.

Hubby is still full of surprises! This week's date night too us to a strip mall, which had me raising an eyebrow at him as we approached. "Really?" REALLY! Step instead Allison's and it's cute, cozy, and has a great, comfortable vibes. You can tell they have a mainstay of regulars by the sheer familiarity the folks at the bar displayed with the bartender. I was hungry, but not starved and sort of nervous about ordering a whole salmon entree. However, when it arrived it was perfectly portioned, as well as the sides (veggies and mashed potatoes). I would have killed to order a bottle of wine like the table across from us, but alas, I am still preggers so it was Shirley Temples for me. They did a good job with those though! lol! My hubby got the same entree and then ordered the chocolate mousse cake which he was very pleased with. I took a bite and really liked it too, but there was no way I could finish one myself. A bite was just enough. I look forward to becoming one of Allison's regulars. They do good food well and have plenty of yummy, tasty, healthy options. Again, this restaurant is pretty small, so get there a little early or a little late to make sure you can get a seat and don't be afraid of the uber commercial location. You won't even notice when you are instead.

We were in the area to play golf at Renditions and searched Yelp for someplace to eat. We decided on Allison's. We enjoyed our meal. All the entrees we had were very good. The desserts were delicious and the atmosphere was nice. It is small and quaint. A hidden gem. If we travel to that area again Allison's will be on our list for our post golf meal. :)

I am absolutely in love with this restaurant. It has it all: unique twists on Italian favorites, simple yet tasteful menu, a full bar, friendly welcoming staff. This place lacks for nothing. Everyday specials. Super delish! Cheers!!

What to say. Mediocrity at its finest prepared by one of the most unpleasant people you might have ever met. Do not support this restaurant . Bland overpriced food. Very unhappy guy running the place. Customer service at its absolute worst.

We enjoyed our recent date night dinner here immensely! To get the minus one star reason out of the way - the waitress didn't go over the soup of the day or the specials...we had to ask about the soup and, if she had gone over the specials, we totally would've remembered that we wanted fried green tomatoes (which weren't on the menu), and gotten them. Anyways, aside from that, our waitress was attentive without being overbearing. And, the food was very good. The wife got the grilled salmon with asparagus and rice; I got the penne pasta with Italian sausage, shrimp, tomatoes, and mozzarella in a basil pesto cream sauce. While both entrees were well-prepared and tasty, mine was the stand-out! It was delish...super impressed. This little place in an unassuming strip mall is quite the neighborhood gem.

The food at Aalison's was very good last night, and the cost moderate. Our only complaint was the service. Our waiter seemed very inexperienced and slow, though he managed to give the table of 6 next to us plenty of attention. Our appetizer never arrived, and we canceled it as our entrees arrived - after a too-long wait. The food made up for it, so we hope they will bring their service up to speed.

This place is a real hidden gem. I only found it because of the Yelp reviews, as you'll miss it driving down Route 3 (it's in a strip mall behind a Burger King). ABSOLUTELY worth the trip, though. Easily the best fried green tomatoes I've ever had (with a spicy aioli and cole slaw). The staff was extremely friendly, and the menu had a lot of variety. My crab cake was pretty good. I only say "pretty" good, because I have had one better in Pax River, but that's an hour south. However, my mother had a "firecracker" shrimp w/ arugula & seaweed salad, and it was FANTASTIC. I'll be back. (side note to the staff: Get some kids cups, crayons, and paper to color on. Just because you have a fancy menu doesn't mean you can't be more kid friendly. You were very nice to my toddler, but those paper cups and long straws just don't work for two-year-olds. Fix that, and you'll get five stars.)

We stopped by for dinner one night after reading all the wonderful reviews on Yelp- it was as good as they promised!! The fried green tomato appetizer was out of this world. We've been back several times now- amazing!!

This place is so great. Definitely the best place in Crofton by far. My aunt and I have been going here for over a year. It is our place and we love it. And it is for good reason, each and every time we have been here we have had a wonderful experience. The staff is always extremely professional and polite. The atmosphere is eclectic and pleasant and the food is really, really good. Fresh ingredients and classic flavors. They also have a nice wine list and great desserts. There is only one problem with this place. Every time we are there it is not that busy. I don't get it Crofton! There is a first rate restaurant at your fingertips. Go! Enjoy! Forget about Waugh Chapel's traffic and parking, pass over over priced diners and Asian buffets. Allison's is the best...you can thank me later.

A small but nice place. Service was a bit slow initially but very nice wait staff once we were seated. Grilled salmon was excellent. The Tilapia & Shrimp Pomodoro was just ok. Good chocolate mousse cake for dessert.

Who says nothing good can come from a mini mall? I went here for a quick pre-bowling dinner and was pleasantly surprised. This cute little restaurant in a strip mall has some good, authentic comfort food for a decent price. The steak frites exceeded expectations. The meat was melt in your mouth delicious and the sauce made me want to lick the plate. Being the lady that I am, I sopped it up with bread instead. Mmm. My boyfriend's steak and mashed potatoes were exactly what you'd expect from a place that is striving for a homemade feel and taste. The only downside was the service. Don't get me wrong, our waitress was more than a little pleasant but, there seemed to be some miscommunication between the hostess, the kitchen, and our waitress. We were forgotten about not once but twice. The free appetizer and dessert made up for it, so I'll go back but I hope that the next time we can end up with hot food and less confusion.

Hubby and I got takeout tonight from Allison's. First experience - and takeout is never as good as the in house experience. However, got lots of recommendations when I called. Ordered 2 apps - fried green tomatoes, and the oysters; 2 entrees - pork chops, and codfish. When hubby got there to pick up dinner, they were out of oysters, replaced with shrimp cocktail and comped the app. Also provided a FREE dessert - lemon custard cake. We live 5 minutes away and ate as soon as dinner arrived home. The fried green tomatoes were down home and tasty. Shrimp cocktail was not great (Though, to be fair, we are not usually very big fans of shrimp cocktail). As for the main dishes - we found everything a little overcooked and under=seasoned. However, the mashed potatoes were over-salted and had a soupy consistency. The lemon dessert was very good. Our verdict: Stellar service (for takeout). For the price and convenience, we are willing to overlook some of the blunders and give this local family owned and operated place another shot. We're rooting for them -hoping our next experience ups the ante on the food.

Quaint little spot in a strip mall. The food is good and the service is okay. Why just 3 stars you ask? It's overpriced and I was not impresses with the service? Now, the calamari and accompanying sauce was tasty as was our main dishes: shrimp stuffed with crab and tilapia w/shrimp. Overall, you won't go wrong on food, but get less expensive meals so you won't get bill shock at the end.

The food is ALWAYS good, often fantastic; real gourmet entrees and you can see the chefs pride in the presentation and specials selections. Maybe we don't go at the right times, but they always seem pretty empty. Not sure why because the food is great and the prices very reasonable. I think they have won some awards too (There was some mentions just inside the front door).

Just had dinner here last night with my parents and my beautiful fiance. The staff was great! The ambiance was great. And the food was fantastic! The cornbread is fresh, hot, and moist. The salads were great. Everyone loved their dinners and the dessert was amazing! We will definitely be back!

We've eaten here for years and they always have had great service. Last night all the tables were full and they still did a great job of bringing the food out and being attentive. We had the crab cakes and seems like they've changed the recipe, but we preferred the former version. Nice decor and wine list.

Allison's is one of my favorite places to go out with my family. To begin, we are always greeted and served by very friendly wait staff. The dining room is rather small and the decor leaves something to be desired--but it kind of adds to the mom n' pop charm of the place. Their menu is fairly small--something I personally like, as it doesn't take 20 minutes to look at. They always have a big list of specials and desserts listed outside as well, which keeps it refreshing every time we visit. Where the food is concerned, I think the folks at Allison's do a great job. There's a lot of places to get lasagna in any city, but I think theirs is truly great. They also serve quite possibly my favorite breads and butter. The breads are always warm and the butter is nice and sweet. We always go through at least two baskets when we visit. All in all, a great place to go in if you are in the neighborhood and looking for something besides a huge, noisy chain restaurant. Also, they generally have a coupon on their website that you can print! Always a bonus.

Unlike the one star review that posted a review a year later, I dinned here last night. It was my eighth visit I guess and as those before, the food was great. So far I've had the Panko-Parmesan Crusted Cod, Angel Hair Pasta with Marinated Chicken, and Sautéed Chicken Breast Limone. My friends have had the Grilled Salmon Fillet, the Cornmeal Crusted Oysters, and the steak. We have always been impressed with the quality, flavor, and presentation, of the food. I've never had any issues with the service.

Enjoying a meal at Allison's will keep you coming back for more. The food (preparation, presentation, fusion and diversity) is out of this world! Having recently moved from the Bay Area of San Francisco, I expected to pay twice as much for the exceptional dining experience my family and I had at this hidden gem. We had dinner at Allison's on a Tuesday evening. The service was topnotch and our waitress was very attentive. My wife and I shared the Fried Green Tomatoes- simply divine! For the main course, I had the Chicken Limone dish, which is Sautéed Chicken served alongside a spread of Angel hair pasta coated w/a Lemon Butter Sauce and my wife had the savory Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, which were accompanied by an Old Bay Remoulade. Both dishes were out of this world and I highly recommend you make some time to enjoy Allison's if you're in the Crofton area. We'll definitely be back soon.

First off - you Yelpers ROCK!!! I live in VA while my culinary student/foodie son lives in Bowie, MD so we're always looking for a good place to eat. Finally got a chance to dine here last night after reading these reviews. Another Yelper recommended an online coupon which hooked us up for one half price entree. The food is great with generous portions! The servers there could not have been nicer. It was a fabulous meal. My son got the pork loin special which was flavorable. I had a salmon salad (which wasn't dry which is so often the case) with the tomato crab soup which had a pile of lump crab swimming in it and just the perfect amount of kick. We also shared a delicious, hot Bruschetta app and had mango cheesecake which had a creamy denseness. I was also happy to see my scale go down this morning with no damage done. Some may think this place is a little expensive. You often GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! We'll be back as often as we can! It was a very very good meal! How often can you say that about a chain?

Cozy & quaint is true. I think this little gem is a new favorite. I went last night with a party of 7 & they handled us well. We had a great waitress to had patience with our group. We were celebrating a special occasion & when we needed to show up later than our reservations they could still accommodate us. The specials last night included Beef Tenderloin & a Skirt steak. For starters our group shared the brushetta & fried green tomatoes, which were crispy not at all greasy. Allison's lasagna has roasted vegetables along with beef & cheese. I was happy with my grilled salmon, and wondered why when I grill my at home it doesn't taste this good? Some of my dinning companions had the shrimp saute with basmati rice.

Allison's Restaurant is an amazing hidden gem! The food is outstanding especially for the price. Food always tastes super fresh and delicious.
