The El Hefe is awesome! BBQ chicken burrito with fries inside it. Sooo good.

Great place!!! Fish tacos are insanely good. The guacamole was excellent. Street corn was worth it. Drinks were strong and good!! Super busy but the tables clear quickly. Kid friendly. Awesome to sit outside eating this great food, sipping a drink and listening to steel drum music on the deck (not a live band but it didn't matter!) This is a casual place where many arrive by the bike trail which is adjacent to the restaurant. The locals parked across the street at the post office. Smart because this parking lot fills up. No table service here you order at the counter inside and are given a pager.

Guapo's shack is a gem - outdoor patio, separate bar window to order ice cold coronas, and tasty food. The chicken quesadilla and the chicken fajita burrito were excellent (though my wife added the grilled corn for extra flavor). Service timely and price fair. A good place to stop by when biking along the path as it crosses the road 50 yards from Guapo's.

Fantastic food here. Highly recommend the street corn with whatever you get. I got the carnitas burrito and was quite happy with it. The service isn't great, but it's worth it.

Food is ok overall. A little over priced. came in to try the Mexican street corn because other reviews said it was so good. Coming from someone that has eaten corn in Mexico, this was no where close. Every bland. The corn tasted like it come out of a frozen bag and not off a grill.

The fish tacos are fabulous and the BBQ nachos are outrageous. Grab a beer and enjoy the best mexican on the cape!

What a cool find in the middle of nowhere! A rainy day on Cape Cod = driving. We were going off the beat and path driving along 6A and decided to Yelp a place for lunch. This place showed up and we found it. Guapo's is a cool, Taqueria with high quality food and a great atmosphere. The only drawback was the limited number of dry seats for a rainy day. We had a great time there (there is a large chalk board for the kids to do artwork on while you wait for your food). I definitely will repeat.

I have been stopping in once or twice a week between jobs and i love it. The atmosphere is my sanctuary!! My friend got me hooked on the tacos - fish and shrimp!!! The customer service is excellent!!

This place is so great. I stayed in Brewster two years ago and I'm so glad I'm back. Fish Tacos - Outstanding Street Corn - Outstanding Surf and Turf Burrito and Bowl - Outstanding Drinks - Outstanding Here's the kicker - Service. Like others have said, the service is somewhat iffy. I ordered a large order one day and they missed a taco and made two tacos instead of a two burritos. I didn't realize this until I got home, so just check your order. I'm still giving it 5 stars because the food is that good. Dog Friendly:-)

Fresh, good Mexican food in an area that has little ethnic variety. Very nice change of pace, reasonable prices, off the noisy main road and right off the bike path too.

Cocktails: 4 1/2 stars!! Food: 2 stars, except the Mexican corn which gets 4 stars. The transition from California to MA is difficult when it comes to Mexican food. This Mexican food is mediocre at best, but I bet they're still the best Mexican on the Cape. So I'm happy they're around. And the cocktails!! YUM! Tequila, jalapeno, fresh fruit ... these people know what they're doing on that front. Now if they could only take over the bar menus at all the other joints in town....

I wasn't sure what to expect from a taqueria on the Cape but i was completely blown away by the food. I had the steak tacos and they are honestly comparable with authentic El Salvadorian tacos you would find in Somerville. flavorful tender grilled steak in a soft corn tortilla, with lettuce, tomatoes, topped with fresh homemade salsa and guacamole. They come with a wedge of lime and slices of pickled jalapeños on the side. I ordered extra guacamole and it was quiet good as well-not the pre-made variety with the texture of baby food. Good flavor and big chunks of avocado. This place is the real deal -not Americanized Mexican food catering to tourists, when I spotted Latin workers eating there on their lunch break, I knew it was a good sign. They also serve a great selection of beers and their own sangria.

This place is awkward and just a little over-priced. It's order at the counter and seat yourself but that wasn't immediately obvious. Maybe I'm just not a fan of 'sorry, I saw that table first so it's mine' but I think they'd benefit from at least a server outside. Also, we wanted to order a couple margaritas but you can't do so at the main register- must go outside to the 'bar' (really just a window). And the only table available was directly outside the bathroom- the door was inches from my chair and it's pretty awkward knowing that unpleasant things take place feet from my food. That being said, the food was very fresh and pretty tasty; if the items were a couple bucks cheaper then I'd give it 4 stars. Oh, and parking totally blows.

Think twice before visiting this restaurant. Are you ready to play chicken in order to score a parking space? Are you prepared to order your food and then spend the next half hour trying to outsmart and out muscle your hungry opponents to the next available table? Does ordering a fish taco and a hamburger with NO cheese and then receiving a CHEESEburger and fish tacos that had ONE chunk of fish on them sound appealing? Yes? Then this is the place for you. If not then please do your stomach, your sanity and your wallet a favor and dine elsewhere.

After Bikram I headed up for a vegetarian tostada. It was delicious...and very welcome after a 90 minute 110 degree yoga sesh. They get this entree right for sure.

We stopped at El Guapo's on the way into the Cape after reading all the good reviews. We came around 4:00pm, so it was definitely not crowded at all, so no problem. We got the chips and salsa (free with the yelp coupon for checking in), guacamole, fish tacos & carne asada tacos & margaritas. Everything was delicious. I really enjoyed the fish tacos even though they were made with fried fish, which I usually don't like. My kids loved it here since there was a big chalkboard that they could draw on and they had some boardgames as well. We got a few games of Connect 4 in while here, too. Overall, a winner in my book.

  • Julie P.

Awesome margaritas. We stopped by back from a run in the ccrt. Salsa was good, could use a little heat, but tasted fresh. Guac was amazing. Big chunks of avocado.

Best fish tacos on the Cape, maybe even on the Eastern shore. Fresh as it gets fish from Brewster Fish House next door, covered by a crispy deep fried batter, fresh slaw, pico, and tangy sauce, wrapped in a homemade flour tortilla. Homemade tomato salsa is great, too. Garlicky and not too spicy.

The main thing this place had going for it was location. It's adjacent to the Cape Cod Rail Trail and has ample bike racks if you want to pull over and get something to eat. The indoor seating was poor, but there were a lot of picnic tables outside. They also have buzzers so you can reserve a seat and then go pick up your food. Despite it having a takeout feel inside, there was someone outside to ask if things were ok as well as to keep the tables clean (a common issue at Mexican restaurants such as these I've found - Try to find a clean table at a Chipotle - you can't). They also had great choices for a variety of eating styles - gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, and good ol' fashioned omnivore. I had the Surf and Turf burrito, which featured Steak and Shrimp along with guacamole. It was delicious and a great value. The Steak was tender and the shrimp seemed to be of a high quality. It was filling and delicious. My girlfriend had the veggie quesadilla and said it was excellent as well.

Side street, off the biker path, cold beer. awesome.

If I could I would vote 3.5. Chipotle wings sweet and spicy yum! Burrito was good but only pickled jalapenos and carnitas were not as well seasoned as I would like. However, if you are jonesing for Mexican on Cape Cod, this is certainly a fine choice.

El Guapos is like a drug... a really good drug. Their Fish Taco's are amazing and I've found that when I go to other restaurants, I find myself comparing their fish taco's to Guapos'. Kyle who is the owner is a very cool dude and a very smart business man. Look no further than where he's picked to locate his business, his insane schedule, and the fact that he's successfully created a brand... not just a restaurant. At Guapos I might pay a little more, but I know what I'm getting. They are amazingly consistent and hit it out of the park every time. I also want to note that their sangria and guacamole are both to die for. If I ever kill a guy and get sentenced to the chair, Guapo's Fish Tacos will be my last meal.

Average Mexican food and a great place for kids. Sit outside next to the big chalkboard. Go there for the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service.

Good fish tacos -- maybe a little bland, but solid, satisfying, and simple. Unquestionably fresh. Nice outdoor deck. Good salsa. Not a fancy place, but right on the bike path.

Love it, love it, love it! El Guapo's Es muy Bien! We are from Chicago and are used to burritos as big as your head and el guapo does not disappoint. Very fresh ingredients. And always consistent. We r on our way to there now! I have looked all over to find Mexican like this in our own hood, and nothing comes close!

Perfect bike trail lunch break. Best fish and chips ever. Had the tostada and the burritos and they were excellent as well. Fresh ingredients. Lovely outdoor picnic tables under umbrellas.

Let me say up front - arrived kind of grumpy. Was looking forward to a "sit down" place - this was not it. Had to make my party of 8 order in a confusing morass at the counter then stalk the outside for a seat. You are on your own and good luck! Oh and people bring their dogs. Come on! By 7 p.m. they ran out of guacamole dip. I told them that half of what we ordered had that on it. They could honor those, and add guacamole to any dish, but when I asked if they would simply add some guacamole to a bowl so we could have it with our chips they would not sell it. Enough of the bad - the food was awesome. Can't give it a higher rating however since they don't give any thought to the customer experience beyond the counter.

This has been my go to place for Mexican the last few summer vacations in Brewster. Two things seem different this year: 1) prices seem a LOT higher and 2) simple requests seem to be a big deal. Perhaps it's the short timer attitude of end of season employees, but Guapos will not see me again this season. A plain cheese quesadilla is about $7.75, and a fajita chicken quesadilla is about a dollar more. I didn't know if my daughter would like her quesadilla with chicken, so I asked the order taker if she could simply put it on the side....seems simple enough....however, this request was met with a sense of disinterest and perhaps indignation that someone might request the cooks to take another 15 seconds filling an order. Attitude isn't ever welcome in a service business, especially when you're selling slightly chilled Corona Lights for $4.50. I do believe it's reasonable to expect a "can do" attitude from people on the front lines, when requests are simple, like mine. You had two order takers, one customer at one and one behind me, so not the rush I usually see.. Happy off season. I look forward to seeing you next summer. Thanks to the owners for their response, but I'll stand by my above observations.

While vacationing on the Cape, we stopped here for lunch after visiting the Cape Cod Natural History Museum based on the recommendation of a guide book. We all chose to have tacos: I had carne asada, my wife had the poblano, and our daughter had ground beef. The ground beef tacos were nothing special, but mine and my wife's were unbelievably good. In addition to the beef, my tacos had guac, pico de gallo, and a little lettuce. There was just a little heat, a nice acidic tang, and the creaminess of the guacamole. Absolutely wonderful. We also bought a side of the "Mexican street corn" to share, and it was a huge hit with everyone. The guy who complained about the salsa seems to never have had pico de gallo, and this particular pico was quite good, with really ripe tomato and just the right amount of cilantro. I can see where that might be disappointing if you were expecting a chunky salsa for tortilla chips, but it was perfect on my taco. Pricewise, EVERYTHING on Cape Cod is overpriced, so I was actually pleased to spend less than $40 for lunch for three. It's the cheapest meal of the whole vacation...and the best. I would kill for a place like this closer to home. Anything "Mexican" near us is fast food crap.

El Guapo's has tasty enough food. The steak tacos are good and tasty. The Fire Sauce is nice and spicy, but the little containers are too small. The daily specials are generally good. The indoor seating is uninspired but the picnic tables outside are nice on a summer afternoon. The people who work here are always nice and inviting. El Guapo is a nice place to grab a couple of tacos but nothing to write home about.

  • Kristin P.

They now have a full liquor license and the margaritas are great! Quick service for both drinks and food (albeit different lines). The fish tacos are every bit as delicious as everyone rates. And, be sure to get a side order of Mexican street corn; you won't be sorry!

I highly recommend for delicious, fresh Mexican. Casual outdoor seating. This summer they added an outdoor bar. Great place to go with the family and then catch a Whitecaps game.

Decent Mexican food. Fish tacos good, not great. Solid burger. Salsa tastes like ketchup, so skip it. If you are looking for Mexican in Cape Cod this is your place.

  • Hannah J.

Decent Mexican food, but it was a nice change from all the local seafood. It's kind of hidden, but there's a good amount of parking space available. I really enjoyed the salsa, guacamole, and chips, but again, I have had better. I ordered a chicken burrito and it hit the spot, but I was a bit disappointed that it didn't come with a side. It was also a bit crammed inside, but they have a nice bathroom and outdoor seating. There's a chalkboard on the wall to entertain the kids. Overall, good experience and I'd probably go back.

  • Deano J.

Amazing Mexican food on the Cape. You must try their sangria it was brilliant. I actually forgot my credit card their and they were kind enough to not only hold it for me but also called my bank to let me know just in case I called them. We went twice while on vacation in the cape

Cute, free chips and salsa with check in. Fish tacos were good.

  • Matt W.

I got the "famous fish burrito." It was good, but it wasn't actually a burrito, so much as it was fried fish and slaw in a wrap. And you wouldn't know that, because what the burritos actually contain is not listed on the wall, nor are any of the prices. That led to a big surprise when we ordered 2 burritos (which are about the same size as a small at boloco), 2 sodas, and chips for $28 dollars. A bag of chips and a container of (way too much) salsa was $6! You know, the stuff they just give you at every other burrito joint on earth. My wife got a chicken burrito. It was not bad. So the food is good, but it's way too expensive. That's what I'm getting at.

    (2)
  • Lisa P.

Really yummy fish tacos and burritos. Don't go on a rainy day if you want any atmosphere. Only 3 small tables inside.

  • Meggie C.

Awesome, FRESH, inexpensive Mexican food. I was shocked to find some of the best Mexican food I've ever had in the Northeast on the Cape. No offense to the Cape - I just tend to stick with the traditional Cape-specific specialities: fried clams, clam chowder, onion rings, etc. Not a fancy place: order at the counter and they bring it to your table, but it is clean and very delicious! I shared Nachos with the group, had Shrimp Fajita Tacos sans sour cream and a Corona for myself and had the perfect summer evening. All five members of our group raved about this food and will definitely be making return visits. We were late arrivers and so they were closing down while we were still finishing up, it would have been nice to continue sitting outside a bit longer. * 5 stars for the taqueria category, not sure I would be so generous if I were asked to compare to all types of restaurants or all restaurants on the Cape.

  • Dan P.

Had a great time at guapos last night with my cousin (a local)! Had a delish carne asana burrito and a cocktail that tasted like the old Nerds candies. They even had a million vegan options for my sister. The staff and environment were delightful! Can't wait to go back and check out the fish tacos, and inside out grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids! Dan

  • Cindy K.

The food is tasty, as most of the reviews have stated. However the portions are very small compared to most other Mexican restaurants and what you would expect. I talked to several other people who live on the Cape and we all came to the same conclusion - keep the good quality and increase the portion size, or the restaurant will likely start to lose repeat customers.

    (3)
  • Chas K.

Let's start w/ the food: I agree w/ the reviewer who said that the fish burrito - what they call El Spano Loco ($8.95) - is not a burrito at all, but fried cod, slaw and mayo wrapped in a tortilla. Also agree that $5.95 for a small bag of (room temp) tortilla chips and 1/2 pint of what El Guapo calls salsa is a rip-off. The salsa was just diced tomato, onion and a little cilantro. No spice or peppers at all. Pass on this. Just went to Border Cafe in Cambridge today and got complimentary hot chips and great salsa. A special shrimp fajita taco was great. The shrimp were moist and flavorful ($8.95) and my wife loved her Smothered Chicken Burrito ($9.95). I thought it was pretty good. El Guapo has a good selection of beer and soft drinks, including Mexican sodas. The Mexican Street Corn sounded interesting, but there was no way I was going to pay $4.50 for a 1/2 ear of corn. Contrary to the profile, El Guapo serves beer and wine. Ambience and service: The young woman at the counter was friendly and knowledgeable. You should know that the place only has seating for 8 inside; maybe twice that outside. The majority of their business is take-out. It is immaculately clean. We passed the restaurant while riding the Cape Cod Rail Trail. We drove back from West Dennisafter finishing a 30-mile ride because we thought it was a full service restaurant. Had we known it was a burrito stand we would not have doubled-back. The owners could do so much more with the space. Executive summary: El Guapo is an OK choice if you're craving Mexican or Tex-Mex in the Brewster/Orelans/Chatham area, but it's definitley not a destination restaurant.

  • Bethany B.

Good food! My basic chicken burrito was tasty & filling. Next time though -- totally getting jalapenos on it to amp up the flavor. Hubby had 4 crispy tacos. Fresh tomato, lettuce & cheese. Beef was good but needed some flavor ( even a little salt would have helped) b/c it was a little bland. Fresh chips & salsa for a few bucks tided us over while we waited. Great option when you can't take anymore fried anything:)

    (4)
  • Mark F.

It's good, not nirvana good, but good. The carne asada soft shell tacos were tasty, but at 2 per order for $9.00 one can only remind themselves how fortunate those cities with authentic taco trucks have it. I can't really give it more than 3 stars when a recent lunch order of the two steak tacos, a small bottle of water, and a tiny 2 tablespoon side of extra guac, tallied a whopping $13.10.

  • Elizabeth B.

Um, amazing. They kept the place open for us even at 10pm for dinner. Awesome food, for so cheap and yummy! Guy who runs it is quite nice as well, but the place is apparently only a summer thing.

    (5)
  • John B.

Awesome mexican food. I've tried the burritos, tacos and chips and salsa and all were well above average. The hot sauces are fantastic and their hottest truly packs a punch. The only downsides are the limited seating and fact that it can get pretty hectic on a summer night. I guess that's the price of making something so many people want - not a bad problem to have!

  • Paul L.

Super fun, delicious mid Cape taqueria. Surf-Mex style spot, kid friendly with a huge chalkboard on the deck. Reasonably priced, great menu and beverage selection. I always go for 2 fish tacos, a Tecate, and 1/2 & 1/2(rice & beans). The food is always fresh and delicious, service never bad either. Fully recommend.

  • L F.

Okay a few issues here, 1) no seating you have to hunt for a table which is all located outside, in which case they have picnic tables perhaps total number of 20 (not even). 2) The food was cold and served in take out containers. And the forks would break. 3)Price was not comparable to the food $72 and charged for four people. We went back up and asked the math did not add up. They blamed it on taxes.... Yes, a extra restaurant tax in Brewster! 4)Oh yes, did I mention water is $2 a bottle and taxed? 5) The food, hummm my son had the surf and turf not to much surf or turf contained but lots of flavorless rice. For a 6 in burrito with more rice than surf and turf $10.99! Plus tax oh and more tax....nana and pop had the chicken enchilada, okay where was the chicken? Cold and gloppy. 12.99 tax more tax. Serving size mah little. More iceberg lettuce with nasty tomato than anything else. I had the cheese enchiladas cold sold tasteless cheese I had to pour hot sauce all over it. We had the nachos which happened to also be cold and solid mass of tasteless wonder. I was over rating it with 2 stars but I rarely do a 1....

  • Chris G.

Good Burrito joint, actually one of the best on the Cape which is sparse when it comes to a good burrito. The Costa Rican with street corn is a great burrito and the fish tacos or burrito is a great choice. Great for the Cape, mediocre for a national Taqueria.

Cowboy burger was perfect. Excellent chill atmosphere. Just what the rec path needed.

  • Steve D.

Dropped in here while riding the Rail-Trail, with two kids in tow. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the tacos that I had. I had the fajita shrimp tacos - pretty original with a nice blend of fire and lime, nothing over the top. Good enough that I'll be heading back over, either by bike or by car. Seating is definitely a premium, so be prepared to wait on busy afternoons.

Not gluten friendly so we could not get the true experience. Limited to what we could order. The few items we did have were delicious! Guacamole alone was worth the trip!

I love this place and am always happy when I'm in the area near lunch time! Fish tacos and burritos and you must have the mexican street corn ! Whatever you get it will be fabulous!

I'm a local and loved this place when it first opened. I brought everyone who visited me here for lunch/dinner. Everything was delicious and fairly priced. Now guacamole is $10 for a medium container ( which i don't order anymore).. And every time I go they are "out" of things- who runs out of guacamole? I'm hoping their second location will be successful and even better than Guapos original location :)

For our last night on the Cape, we did take-out from Guapo's (it's pouring, and no one wanted to sit out in the rain). Being from Chicago, where we have really good Mexican food, I'd say this place is a great find. I had the fish tacos, which weren't greasy at all. I asked if the fish is fresh or frozen, and since they said it was fresh, I gave it a try; glad I did, because with the shredded cabbage and lime sauce, it was so good. Boy 2 and Little Girl both had the shrimp tacos, and we all appreciated that they use 2 tortillas for each taco (avoiding the mess when a tortilla tears). Boy 1 and Mr. Man had veggie burritos, and they thought it was very good. We also ordered the largest size of guacamole and chips; the guac was really fresh, and the mixed chips were delish as well. We would have liked to eat outside, but having seen how busy it is (we've driven by often), getting a table would have been rough. One star off for being just a little pricey (2 fish tacos were $8.50 with no sides), but overall, it was most definitely worth it. Cape dining isn't always the best, but we'd have gone back to Guapo's if we were here longer.

BBQ chicken buriro and dish tacos are great. Super guac and salsa too! Only went once but looking forward to heading back!

I rode by here the other day during a bike ride on the Cape Cod Rail Trail and was impressed by the attractiveness of El Guapo's. I took my family there for lunch and we all had something different for lunch - and everything we had was well prepared. There are a few small tables to eat at inside, but this is really an al fresco experience with ample picnic tables outside, most under a covered porch. The food reminded me of the really fresh Tex-Mex we used to get many years ago when we lived in Texas. The pico de gallo was clearly freshly made and tasted very similar to what I make fresh at home as was the guacamole. The Pescado tacos both had a delicious lime cream sauce that was the perfect complement to the seafood. I only wish I could find such a place close to where we live in the Washington DC area!

Carne Asada tacos are amazing. This quick Mexican joint is a tad expensive for counter service, but all of the ingredients are fresh and the flavors are exceptional!

Just a quickie, via my daughter who was craving one of their burgers (I snuck some bites in). Decent burger and side order of fries, but as with all their sandwiches, fries are extra as a side order. Spending over $11 for a burger and fries is probably a few bucks more than you'd do getting the same thing at one of the local pubs. Really nice people, but they ought to think about some of their pricing.

Try the fish tacos and Mexican street corn. Think they are the best thing on the menu. They now serve alcohol which is great. It is a little expensive for take out Mexican food but it is very good. Perfect for a casual dinner when you don't feel like cooking.

Husband and I stopped here on the way home from exploring Cape Cod National Seashore. We were very pleased with this stop! We ordered a large salsa with chips to start, along with fountain sodas, while waiting for our fish tacos to be made. The salsa was VERY mild. We asked for and received portions of hot sauce to pour into the salsa. Then the tacos were brought to our table, and we were pleased with the portion size: 2 large tacos per order, with 2 soft corn tortillas holding each taco together. There was a tangy/creamy sauce on the bottom, followed by tasty fried fish, topped with finely shredded cabbage. I added lime juice and jalapeno slices and hot sauce. PERFECTION!! Satisfying perfection. I ate every last morsel, and then was happily full.

Delish! May not be the lightest lunch pit stop while biking along the rail trail, but it was definitely great! Don't miss the corn, & my salad was fresh & spicy good! Lobster roll was also excellent!

  • James C.

The fish tacos here are absolutely fantastic. Crispy, fresh cod fried perfectly served with corn tortillas and fresh shredded cabbage. If you've never had a fish taco (and several folks in our group hadn't), this is a great introduction. The "surfer style" tacos are delicious and a [relatively] healthy alternative after all the standard fried seafood fare that is inevitable on a summer vacation at the Cape.

Stopped in this place for Fish Tacos the other day. We also had Pork Quesedillas, and a burrito. The fish tacos were a little soggy but the flavor was terrific. The pork quesedillas were just "OK". Hubby said the burrito was very tasty. I have had the Cowboy Burger there too and that was great.

I love Mexican food, but fast take-out Mexican is even more amazing. I got a ground beef taco meal. Consisted of 2 soft tacos. The ground beef was so-so... but the toppings are what really make it. My lady had some chicken quesadillas and they were even more amazing, large, cheesy and deliscious. Small ice cream section around the back of the restaurant, small selection of ice cream, but our red velvet cake ice cream was amazing!

Would give it a 3.5 if I could... One of the only Mexican options out here, and pretty decent. Fish tacos were outstanding, shrimp tacos were pretty good, steak fajitas were just OK. Street corn was another outstanding choice, but while the guacamole was certainly fresh with big chunks of real avocado, it too lacked seasoning... Will definitely go again, but have had much better Mexican food...

Where have I been wanting to try for lunch? Racked my brain as I drove from Harwich to Orleans and it struck me El Guapo's Taqueria. Located just off 6A on Underpass Way and don't be driving too fast or you will go by. The character is one of any take out place whether you are outside Boston or on Cape Cod. You could just as easily be ordering a pizza or sub as Mexican food. Yea there is a sombrero, t-shirts to buy and local business cards.....but that's ok. The difference is the care of the preparation, the mixtures of flavors and the unique strength of the menu. I looked at several selections and the famous fish burrito caught my eye. My server recommended I stop with just the burrito as it was a pretty rich helping. It came with homemade guac! Rich, junky and a stronger onion flavor than most I've tried and much better than the bland offering that seems to get served at most "joints." My burrito had 3 pieces of cod nicely cooked. Sour cream, salsa (again homemade) with just the right amount of bite. I couldn't wait to eat it so as usual I unwrapped my burrito and got immediate payback when a piece of elusive aluminum foil hit a filling in one of my teeth that had me sit bolt upright in the driver's seat of the truck. I haven't had that happen in 20 years. My fault and certainly not El Guapos just this greed, can't wait to get home, hungry and impatient fan of burritos. The flavor of the burrito and the softness of the floured shell were just perfect. A 1/2 pint of guac came home with me with what looks like home made chips. Can't wait to go back for more selections. A must stop on the Cape.

Really yummy fish tacos, they are double walled and are dripping with juice. The chips are thick, crisp and have a slight toasted flavor. Great stop along the bike trail for some fuel.

Best Mexican food on the Cape! Great service and food. The Salsa Roja is absolutely delicious and so is the chicken burrito. I was hesitant to eat there at first because of previous run ins with mexican food on the Cape, but this blew my taste buds!

loved it on our first visit to the cape. we only ate the fish tacos, fish burrito and the costa rican burrito (veggie w/ corn) and loved all of them. fish was fresh, not too fried and seasoned well. (don't expect southwestern Mexican, and you'll be happy.) it's great for such a touristy area... we went back a second time for lunch.

The Fish Burrito was awesome. One of us had the El Jefe (BBQ chicken burrito) which was better than average. We had basic all American burger and chicken fingers which were ok. All in all good takeout. We hit the mad rush so it was a long wait and they forgot to pack fries (this also happened to someone else) So docked 1 star for that and price was steep even for cape standards. For those of you familiar with Boston/Brookline MA Anna's Taqueria they can hold their own from a tastiness perspective. Just need to handle the rush better.

When you're in Cape Cod you have to adjust your food expectations. It's more expensive and it doesn't taste as good as (insert your town here). Guapo's is no exception, but it's still okay. This location has a great beach vibe. As for the food: Burritos: NOPE. Too small. Don't do it. Don't! Cowboy Burger: I think the burgers are the best item on their menu. They're decent, priced right, cooked right. Wings: Really expensive, but pretty good. They are about 50% of the way there to BonChon (Korean) chicken wings in terms of crispiness. I thinkt he Chipotle BBQ is more spicy than the Honey Habanero. Crispy Fries: Meaty with a decent flaky crispness to them - not too crispy though.

Great burritos and tacos! I ordered the El Spano Loco burrito...basically it was a couple fish tacos rolled into a burrito...it was awesome and easier to eat than the fish tacos! Great casual atmosphere!

We stopped here for a bite after surfing Coast Guard beach last night. I would actually rate this 3.5 if that were possible, but since that's not a thing they receive 3. What's good... The food: The food was definitely tasty and quite unique. I got the Costa Rican Burro. One of the ingredients listed was "Mexican Street Corn." Apparently it is a magical concoction of corn, melted cheese, and sour cream. Uh.... Yep. I'm in! Completely delicious. The ambiance: I dig the casual vibe. This is one of those low-key, order-inside-but-eat-wherever places. They've got tables out on the deck as well as a few picnic tables off the deck. They've got cute strings of lights hanging and a set or two of cornhole in a sand pit for hanging out on a summer night. The service: super friendly, helpful and seemed genuinely happy to help us. A rarity these days! The food came incredibly fast, too! The not so good... Portion size: Maybe I'm just used to every other Mexican place making burritos the size of infants, but I was surprised to see such a small one and it left me a little hungry. My husband ordered 2 tacos and what came would be what I would consider an appetizer. Knowing that it's Brewster (big tourist area in an upscale-ish town) I figured the prices would be higher than our typical local Mexican spots. The prices were actually right on par with every other place, but the portions are WAAAAAAAY smaller. One more downside was cold, pre-bagged chips! This is that half-star that would bump my rating up to a full 4 instead of the 3.5 I wanted to give. Disclaimer: I understand that this is 100% a pampered, snobby, first-world problem and for that I apologize. It's just that hot chips with salsa is the ultimate starter while you wait for your food or to fill your belly with when you're still hungry because your burrito was tiny.

Not sure which is worse, the very high prices ($8 for a small guacamole and chips) or the food (the fact that the guacamole was repackaged from Costco. Wow! Big, fat, bad WOW!

  • Monica L.

I understand that it is Cape Cod. Things cost a bit more due to logistics and tourist trap. But, I think it is way overpriced. Burrito was tasty but mostly contained rice, so I'm eating spices. Hardly any meat in the Carne Asada. Tacos at over $4 looks more like something from Taco Bell's dollar menu.

  • Kelly T.

I used to love going to Guapos, but recently things seem to have changed. I don't know if it's just because they opened a second location or what, but the prices are totally crazy unreasonable for the amount of food you're getting. One small taco is like $4.50 (they are really not big) and they completely eliminated a lot of good food on the menu (like nachos... what the heck)! A small guacamole and chips is $8.00, which also seems pretty crazy to me. I'm so sad that whatever has changed has made me not want to go back anymore.

  • Jennifer L.

Great selection of burritos and tacos. I love the picnic tables outside and the cornhole boards. What I didn't love is the $15 margarita. I understand it was a house-made fresh one, but it was still pricey.

  • Vanessa B.

I don't have anything really bad to say about this place, but also nothing really good. The food with average but way too expensive. $11 for a burrito with no meat is kind of ridiculous. I'm not sure why they ask you if your food is "for here or to go" when you order, because I said it was for here and my burrito came all wrapped up in foil on a plastic tray. Even a plastic plate would have been ok. I wanted to try the tacos but I refuse to pay over $5 for one little taco. I also saw the special for the "Sonoran Dog" but it's definitely not a real Sonoran dog. I come from Arizona and I know what a real Sonoran dog is. Overall it was just ok.

  • Jonathan D.

Average taco joint, portions felt small for the price, but this is cape cod and tourist season. I wouldn't of minded paying the price about 70 dollars for 2 (no alcohol.) if the food was a little more impressive. Nothing popped and canned tomato over fresh in salsa didn't go unnoticed. Also pico and other taco garnishes were not fresh, as in old beat up prep. If this place was half the price I could recommend it.

    (2)
  • Brian G.

It's average. They kind of throw a lot of things together for their tacos, so flavors just mesh together. At least they use corn tortillas. I cook a lot of Mexican so I am a bit snobby when it comes to it. For the average joe, it's good!

    (3)
  • Kristina K.

I guess they are trying to have a Cape Cod twist on Mexican, but it isn't working. I got a fish burrito and it was basically a fried fish sandwich in a wrap. It's outrageously priced for what you get - two tiny tacos, dry rice, flavorless beans. We were looking for something that wasn't fried seafood and had hoped this would be more like Mexican, or at least Tex-Mex, food. It's not. The fact that it's been rated #1 Mexican food in Brewster says nothing, there are only 2 Mexican places there and it was by the local paper.

Fish Tacos and Mexican Corn were very good. Sangria was adequate. (June 2012) September 2014 update: I drafted this review two years ago and somehow never posted it. As an update, since that time I have come to realize the fish tacos are far superior than the vast majority of other places east of the Mississippi River. Now I compare fish and even shrimp tacos to Guapos and am often disappointed. I think I need to go back and figure out what the thing is that Guapos has that others are missing. So chow down on the fish tacos and ask for extra lime and sauce just for good measure

Nothing to me says "authentic Mexican food" like Bob Marley on the stereo, Corona "March Madness" decorations, and tacos served with pale lime-green iceberg lettuce as their spiciest ingredient. (The "street corn" wasn't too street, in that I was not afraid to eat it for fear of spoiled queso fresco, but we have been spoiled by decades living in California and the wonderful selection of authentic spicing and delicious e coli available from our street vendors of comida autentico there.) Portions were a bit slim for the price. Are we clear here on the food? It's fine - in fact, the Americano burgers were well above average - but only in the average realm. Guapo's real charm is in the vibe: it's a Jimmy Buffet zone right off the bike path, a very very fine destination or stop for a libation and a bite if you don't mind a little tipsy bicycling or you have a designated driver on your tandem. Fine little margaritas ($8), the usual suspect selection of beers, easy outdoor seating for the kids (with a chalkboard to distract them), and just generally summery. Service is counter-order with pickup via pager (and no table service tip necessarily implied) but very prompt. So: three stars for the food, with some credit for Cape novelty but marks off on their contribution to world cuisine, but a raise to four stars for karma. If you're just looking for a relaxing change to the usual choice between lines for fried seafood or glacially-paced table service that is in-season Cape, well-recommended.

I pulled up to this joint and I was ready for my best meal on the cape after what I had heard. I walked in and the place looked nice and clean. I was waiting in line, scoping out the menu... Odly, there wasn't too much and it was a bit pricy. I asked for a burrito, with my favorite ingredients. The cashier wasn't clear what so ever and seemed confused the whole time. Then out of know where another lady steps in, saying "okay". I ended up getting my burrito, chips, and a small drink. My total was 16 dollars. Once I got my food and was excited from all I had heard. I took a bite and she didn't put in most of what I requested. For some reason she gave me enough rice for 3 burritos and not enough beef for 1. It tasted okay. The chips were very good. I could have went to Chipotle and got better food for way less. Not to mention they have a bigger selection. Could have even gone to Taco Bell and got way more. Might be coming back.

Friendly family atmosphere. Fish burrito is always good as is the chicken enchiladas. Rum punch, red sangria, guacamole... It's all great. Kyle is a great business owner as well!

This place was just "meh". I wasn't super impressed. The wait for alcoholic beverages while waiting for food was a bit long - girl in the window didn't seem that adept. Food was just "okay". They left the guac off the wife's taco salad which is annoying cause we got it to-go. They also ran out of chips for nachos. How does THAT happen? (Last I checked tortilla + fryer = chips). Anyway, not a lot of Mexican food options on the Cape. This will do, but don't expect to be blown away. They have another spot in Orleans - maybe that one is better?

We Had tacos. The place was quite busy. The tacos were good but cold. I sent them back. They must have done absolutely nothing but remake them. They came out cold again. Between us we had 5 tacos and 2 small sodas. $$$28 bucks for cold tacos??? Ugh- this place gets great reviews from people on vacation in a good mood to leave a good review. The tables were dirty, the service slow. I wasn't impressed. Although I did like the Bob Marley music they had playing. Keep your expectations low- and bring lots of money!!!

The chips are salty and the Pacifico was cold. ++ However... The shrimp tacos were so bad I thought it was a joke. Shrimp so rubbery that I thought someone put the fake food, from a kids kitchen set, in a tortilla. I would suggest better quality ingredients and less logo gift shop items

My favorite fish taco place in Tucson makes your tortillas fresh when you place your order. Yep, warm, soft yellow tortillas. So, I'll start with a fresh New England slate here because you'll get commercially made tortillas at Guapo's and I remember when there wasn't a single tortilla on Cape Cod, so let's be happy. Guapo's food is flavorful. The street corn portion is huge. I'd like to see them offer grilled ears of corn.

Went 2x during the week of the 4th of July. The location was convenient to the place I was renting for the week and the reviews were generally good for the place so I tried it out. Ordered the shrimp tacos which tasted good but only had 1 shrimp cut into 3 pieces...wtf is up with that? I know that the automatic defense is that "it was one really big shrimp" but nuh uh....not even close The experience of eating here made me want to stay away from smaller restaurants for fear of getting rippped off. Had a much better total experience in Providencetown

Fantastic! The food is worth the wait for a table. I dream about their Mexican corn. It's a fun atmosphere. Casual. A chalk board for kids to draw on. It can be a long wait, both to order and get a table.

This place is the best! Great food, great service, great attitude. Relaxed and casual atmosphere. Delicious fresh made Mexican style food. Very reasonable prices. Compared to all the other mediocre overpriced places on Cape Cod, this place is a dining oasis! My wife and I ordered the guacamole with chips, the fish taco, the crispy beef taco, and the street corn. Everything was excellent!!! Definitely two thumbs up. this is our second time here this week.

While riding the cape cod rail trail, another biker recommended this place would be a great lunch spot that had "burritos to die for". Guapo delivered a delicious lunch and I would definitely come back here. I had the Chicken Fajita Burro and my wife ordered the Carne Asada Burro, we also had a side of fries (which were excellent). Outdoor seating have both shaded and in the sun tables to enjoy the weather. If you're in the area and in the mood for Mexican you should check this place out.

Great atmosphere, lackluster food (especially for vegetarians). I have been eating at Guapo's annualy for I would guess 4 years or so. I remember being impressed the first time I visited that it was better than expected Mexican/Taqueria food, and that's coming from a picky Californian who judges most East Coast taquerias as terrible. Over the past couple years I have been increasingly disappointed by the food, while the atmosphere and style of the location seems to get better and better. Unfortunately, when it comes down to it, the food is what matters most. This latest visit takes the case as my vegetarian burrito was 1. Bland 2. Sloppily assembled, leaking, floppy in the foil. 3. Wrapped up with small bits of grill meat pressed into the tortilla and hiding in the folds. As with many Cape attractions, seafood is a central component to the menu at Guapo's, and perhaps that provides enough panache to satisfy most customers (my wife had fish tacos and didn't seem too excited, though). As a vegetarian I especially value taquerias that can nail the basics with e.g. beans and rice that stand on their own as flavorful and texturally appetizing. The black beans in my Guapo's burrito were watery, the rice was "al dente" and almost crunchy to the bite, and as I mentioned earlier, it was all put together in an unappetizing, sloppy way that cauzed the burrito to leak everywhere while eating. Not to mention those bits of grill meat... My prescription for Guapo's would be to: 1. Refine beans and rice recipes to make them stand alone as tasty components of the meal. Don't rely upon meat or even "street corn" to "liven" up the burrito. The essentials should taste great. 2. Practice diligent hygiene at the grill to avoid cross-contamination from whatever meats are being grilled, being wrapped up into (probably while warming a tortilla) a purportedly vegetarian dish. 3. Train burrito makers to wrap a burrito tightly by filling with an adequate amount of food to fill out a burriito, and tightly rolling to create tortilla tension that holds a burrito together and makes it easy to handle without unfolding itself. 4. Ideally, offer more taqueria "standards" as additions to the filling mix. For example, sour cream, cilantro, avocado (not guacamole!) and onions would do something to round out the burritos. This is prescription point #4 because it's far and away the least of their concerns, but ... a boy can dream. I'm not sure I'll go back to Guapo's again even though I started out very optimistic about it, and continue to value the feel of the place. The food is just too blah, there are not enough vegetarian choices, and the few choices there are are prone to be contaminated with meat bits that are very hard to remove.

This was my second visit to Guapo's, and it exceeded my expectations as always. I had a fish burrito (same as last year) which was delicious. However, you might want to have it heated up a bit. The fish was flaky and savory, definitely a good choice for anyone with a love for seafood. The guacamole was addictive! My whole family enjoyed this meal, and couldn't have asked for better Mexican on the Cape.

Yummy fish burrito and crispy beef tacos. Good, kid-friendly quesadilla. Service was reasonably friendly. Not particularly cheap, but a lot more affordable than most sit down restaurants on the Cape. We were there during high mosquito time so we had to sit inside, but the deck looked very nice. Good tunes, turned up loud.

Super MEH. the fish tacos are shameful considering where the place is located. The burritos are a jumble of ingredients that are fairy tasteless and just dont have that tex-mex appeal. There is nothing warm and comforting about the food here, and this is how Mexican typically makes me feel. The tacos are fairly small. They run out of avocados on a regular basis.

A little overpriced. One taco is nearly 5.00 with a lot of fillers and little of what you ordered. Carne taco had two pieces of meet with tons if lettuce. Carne burrito was much better. Beans and rice is delicious but really needs to be separated not in one round container.

Decided to try here because of all the great reviews via Yelp. I was initially surprised by the appearance, a small shack-like building in its own little area on the side of the road. Walking in it was a cramped little restaurant, but we chose to eat outside anyway. Food and drinks had to be ordered seperately on two different checks and cash registers which was a little confusing and disorganized. Also I couldn't see what kind of drinks/beer they had in their fridge. I ordered the carnitas burrito topped with guacomole and pico. The food came out relatively quickly, but it was pretty small in size for the price. I wasn't impressed at all. It was fresh but the flavor just wasn't there. It all seemed pretty bland to me. If you want Mexican take your money elsewhere.

I am a local and I have tried several times to like Guapo's - both Brewster and Orleans. However, every time I thought I would "try it again" it has been a disappointment. I don't like the feeling of being ripped-off. The first time I stopped in a couple of years ago I ordered the Shrimp Taco's, to my surprise there were only two small shrimp, sliced in half then sauce, tomato and lots of lettuce. The other day I stopped in and decided to try the Carne Asada Taco's..once again the "main" ingredient should have been the steak which is was not. There was approximately one ounce, or less of steak and once again plenty of lettuce - price is $4.95 per taco. I also ordered a side of black beans.......you would think a side of black beans would be a one person serving but the smallest they offered was a 16 ounce container - enough for four people.

Do yourself a favor, get the F I S H T A C O S! Last time I had fish tacos this good, I was at Zamas. In Tulum. In Mexico. The fish is so lightly fried, it melts in your mouth. In fact, I'm imagining it right now and licking my lips.

If parking and deck size weren't limiting factors, I would call this place perfect. Thankfully, I live on the cape and can visit when the place isn't crazy. This was my first visit. My boys and I went on Memorial Day weekend. Thankfully we arrived early enough to get a table outside. I ordered the Carne Asada burrito and my kids had the Mucho Queso Quesadillas and Cowboy Burger. I decided to have a cold beer and thought it a bit odd that I had to go on the deck to order. Not their fault, just left over Puritan laws regarding alcohol here. My burrito was amazing. The tortilla was perfectly steamed and the beef was freaking yummy (yes, a technical term). Pair it with a Dos Equis amber and add a touch of cholula for a perfect match. The boys reported great things on their dishes and no one had a crumb left at the end of the meal. By the time we left, I could have auctioned our table off to the highest bidder and covered my kids college. I've ridden by this place a million times on my bike and it was finally great to stop. I'll have to show some restraint on the rail trail rides as it's still 10 more miles for me to go after Guapos. Make sure you check in with your mobile. It's the only place I've yelped on the east coast that has offers.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
