The freshest seafood and authentic southern recipes are what make this place so special. Wonderful peppery breading on the fried dishes just melts in your mouth. If you are in the area don't miss this experience!

It's an adventure getting to Boutte's from New Orleans. My friends and I were in the area on a swamp tour. Thankfully we didn't drive down just to have lunch here. Boutte's was okay, but nothing special. I ordered the Soft Shell Crab, a special, which came with dinner salad and a baked potato. Salad was okay but generic. I noticed they pre-made these and refrigerated them. The potato came with "cheese" which was the liquid nacho cheese variety. I was expecting shredded cheddar cheese, not a liquid orange cheese. Otherwise a good baked potato. I ordered the soft shell being a daily special and a recommendation. It was pretty good, lightly fried and very delicate. I had no problem eating all of it, shell included. Toast was included, but it very stale bead. We also ordered hush puppies and Cajun Fried Pickles. Hush puppies were great! They had the right amount of spice. Nothing "Cajun" about the fried pickles, but they were good but without any seasoning or spice. It was an okay place, but nothing to "write home about". If your in the area and your hungry for cheap fried seafood; this is your place. The Good; very good lightly fried and tender Soft Shell Crab The Bad; nacho cheese on a baked potato.

For all you urban dwellers out there, I highly recommend getting "out of the city" and taking a quick drive to Lafitte and do a little exploring. Once you work up a good appetite, head on over to Boutte's Bayou Restaurant and prepare yourself for some good eatin'. Even though we had been exploring for several hours, we had no initial intentions on eating, as we had a pot roast cooking on the crock pot at home. However, our little one needed to eat, so we "Yelped" restaurants in Lafitte and low and behold, Boutte's was the number one choice. Had it not been for Yelp, I may have driven right by without even seeing Boutte's, as it sits back off of the highway. Walking up to the door, the restaurant is very unassuming from the outside. When we walked through the front door, all the patrons' conversations stopped abruptly as they checked out who was walking through the door. I almost felt as if all eyes were upon us, but the pause only lasted for 2 seconds at most; just time enough for the locals to ascertain if we were locals or not. There is no doubt that everyone here was a local Lafitte resident, and I mean that in a good way, as you could tell that everyone was relaxed and having a good time while they ate. All friendly conversations were immediately resumed as we were greeted by our friendly hostess/waitress. Even though we had food waiting for us at home and we were really just getting food for our lil boy, we didn't pass on the opportunity to sample the fare. Our boy's chicken strips were fresh and hot and the smiley fries were a big hit with him (with me too). The wife and I split a 1/2 shrimp & 1/2 oyster poor boy and I can honestly say that this was some of the freshest and best tasting seafood I've had in a long time. I am a fan of well cooked oysters and these were pretty darn big to boot. Kudos to their spicy potato salad which had a hint of crab boil and cayenne, but not too overpowering. This is a as local & fresh as seafood gets, as the boats deliver the seafood fresh every day. I am definitely planning another Lafitte exploration day in the near future, and next time I'm bringing my A-game and plan on sampling a few more items on the menu.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Shrimp Cocktail a joke! The salad was just lettuce and tomato. Gumbo had tiny shrimp and rice very plain.

I love Boutte's. Growing up in South Louisiana I spent a good deal of time in coastal communities. Driving to and from these places was half the fun as I was able to see the shrimp boats parked at the road side, the boat builders and the camps. Lafitte is one of those communities and you will enjoy the drive to Boutte's almost as much as you will he food. When I lived on the westbank I came to Boutte's every few months. I hadn't been back since Katrina so when I was asked to go back, I jumped at the chance. Boutte's is not fancy and caters primarily to locals. This means that you are likely to be one of the few people who doesn't know everyone in the place, but that is OK. Despite being obvious outsiders, the waitress treated us like family. The meal started with a pitcher or two of Miller High Life. The heavy glass pitchers were actually pulled directly from the freezer in the dining room and filled to the top. I highly recommend you start your meal this way. We ordered the fried crab claws as an appetizer. Their version was fried perfectly and much larger than other versions I have had. I was surprised at how much stuffing they were able to shove around the claw. For my entree I went with the shrimp special. It came with shrimp remoulade, shrimp salad, seafood gumbo, fried shrimp, stuffed shrimp, and french fries. Here is how they rated: Shrimp remoulade - very good. There were at least 10-12 small boiled shrimp atop a bed of lettuce topped by remoulade sauce. I would have preferred it be slightly spicier, but it was very good. Shrimp salad - Just OK. I am not a big fan of ground up seafood whipped together and this version didn't change that opinion. Seafood gumbo - Excellent. This was one of the better seafood gumbos I have ever sampled. The roux was very rich and there was a good amount of shrimp and crab present. Next trip I will probably start my meal with a bowl of this gumbo. Fried shrimp - Perfect. Fried seafood was obviously their specialty and the shrimp were excellent. Stuffed shrimp - Very good. Their version was much larger than others I have tried just like the crab claws. While I really enjoyed them, I think I would have rather had more of the regular fried shrimp. I really like Boutte's and think it is worth the drive from most anywhere in the New Orleans Metro area. If you want to go and need a guest, let me know.

I have to admit that although I have lived on the Westbank my entire life, I am afraid that I do not make it down to Lafitte as often as I should. I have just never had the opportunity to explore this town. That all changed recently, when I had the opportunity to have dinner at Boutte's Bayou Restaurant. As I walked into the large dining room I was immediately greeted by a friendly face. Although I didn't know the waitress, she made me feel right at home as if I had been dining with her for years. She told me that I could sit anywhere, so I did. Looking around, I felt very welcome. The room was full of families having boisterous conversations and although I am not from the area, I immediately felt as if I belonged. For my appetizer, I decided on the fried crab claws which came with a side of cocktail sauce. They were delectable. The claws, which were lightly battered and fried to perfection, were a good size and nice and juicy. For my entrée, I decided to get the stuffed shrimp plate. It came with a side salad and a choice of fries or baked potato. Let me tell you, these stuffed shrimp did not disappoint. They were really big and prepared flawlessly. The shrimp were tender and surrounded by a thick layer of stuffing that was incredible and nearly left me speechless. . No matter where you are in the New Orleans metro area, Boutte is definitely worth the drive. Not only is the food marvelous, but the people are friendly, welcoming and kind. As I was leaving one of the women working at the counter told me that Boutte's had been closed for five months following Hurricane Issac and only recently re-opened. Although I was unable to dine here before the storm, from what I can tell, the staff here hasn't missed a beat. I can't wait for my next meal at Boutte's Bayou Restaurant.

We made the trip down to Lafitte from our home in New Orleans to see a place we've never been. We were happy to see a restaurant an decided to stop for a snack. The nice ladies welcomed us and were so kind. We had the fried crab claws. They were full of meat and perfectly fried. We shared the broiled shrimp plate. It was perfect for two people to share as a mid afternoon meal. The restrooms were clean and the whole restaurant was clean and quaint. We'll definitely send our friends down and we'll be back ourselves!

If you order their shrimp lover's plate, you'll be eating shrimp in so many different ways that you'll be crying mercy by the end, but all that cholesterol is definitely worth it!

If you were to look this place up on a map, you'd probably ask what in the world I was doing out there. Well, to answer your question, I had just been on a swamp tour right off of Lake Salvador and our tour guide suggested Boutte's to us. A recommendation from a local to a place not more than 4 miles from where we were as everyone's stomach was growling? Count us in! Judging by the confused looks on the faces of the diners in the restaurant as the twelve of us walked in, I'd say every single one of them was a local and knew we weren't from around there, especially the tall Asian guy wearing a Drew Brees jersey (that would be me). They probably seated us upstairs away from the locals so as not to cause a commotion. J/K. Seeing as this would be my last meal in New Orleans on this trip, I ordered a crabmeat po' boy (since I hadn't had a po' boy this time around) and a cup of gumbo (because, well, I just didn't know when I would be able to get some authentic gumbo from the South again). I was expecting chunks of crabmeat in my sandwich, but got more of the pureed version instead. It was still good, but I wanted chunks. Oh well. And before I forget, if you don't LOVE mayo, be sure to request light or no mayo because WOW, they don't shy away from slapping that on there. The gumbo was good, but it wasn't as thick as I like me gumbo. My friend had the fried chicken and he said it was really good, so that might be a good option to go with. Another recommendation would be the fries w/ gravy and cheese (AKA boo fries at Acme). And the smiley fries (circular fries that literally have smiley faces on them... see picture) are quite good as well. The view of the water from the top floor was nice, service was great, gotta love these mom 'n pop joints and let's be honest... the name is just fun to say. Boutte's. BOUTTE'S!

This palce served me the best catfish I've ever had... and I didn't even order it. Here's how: "We stopped to get lunch at a small seafood restraunt called Boutte's Bayou Restraunt, which was quite litterally on the bayou. The back end had a dock for seafood unloading. After much deliberation I decided to get a small seafood gumbo and red beans and rice. When I ordered this, the waitress asked me what type of dressing I wanted on my salad. Oh my, salad also? "I'll have the Italian dressing." Then she asked me if I wanted a pork chop or fried catfish with my red beans and rice. O JEEZ, uhhmmm, uhhhh, porkchop, no catfish, yes, no, up, down, left, right, aaaahhh, I don't know. "I'll have the catfish." Not expecting to have been baraged with all these other food options I had some crackers and butter before ordering. First we had plain lettuce salads, before she brought me my gumbo. The gumbo was kind of thin, but tasted very good, with ample seafood in it. Then she brought out a mountain of food for me. I had a whole plate of fried catfish, a bowl of red beans and rice, a plate with a quarter of a loaf of rench bread, and a pitcher of beer (not all for me). The red beans were also a little runny, but packed with taste. (It actually made a good combo, because i sucked up some of the runniness with my french bread leaving a tasty piece of bread and thicker red beans). After eating a good bit of the red beans, (Translation: Ryan feels like Violet Beauregard after she chews the 3 course gum.) I tried the catfish that I hadn't planned on eating, even after I found out I was getting it. It was incredible. I regret having filled up on everything else and not being able to finish the catfish. Decent little establishment."

My friends and I (5 total) just finished a swamp tour down the road and were hungry. Instead of driving back to New Orleans, we decided to check out the local fare. We didn't find many options on Yelp, and we actually ended up picking this place based on the shack-look of the restaurant-front. It looked super bayou. I mean that in the most complimentary way. I'll have to disagree with one of the previous reviewers about service. I can see why he might find them rude, as the waitresses definitely aren't exactly chipper. But they're certainly not rude. They just take your order, bring it out, and pour your drinks. Nothing wrong with that. I don't need a waitress smiling at me non-stop. Onto the more important aspect--food. Once again, I'll disagree with the person who said it was awful. If you walk in knowing you're hitting the joint where all the locals go for a laid back meal, it's all good. Shrimp cocktail was actually served in a tiny dish with tiny shrimp and cocktail sauce drizzled on top. I've never had it served this way, but you could tell the shrimp had been freshly peeled (some shells in the bowl--actually a welcome sign for me). My friend's crawfish meat pie was not what were expecting. It was basically 4 empanadas with crust that hadn't fully cooked--the dough dominated the flavor, and you could've put anything inside, and we wouldn't know it. Gumbo flavor was good, and were excited to see half a blue crab in the soup. Unfortunately, the blue crab was clearly out of the freezer (meat wasn't firm like it is when cooked alive). Salads were a bit comical--simple iceberg salad with dressing out of packets. Entrees were far better. Broiled frog legs, broiled catfish were all highlights... well seasoned, cooked extremely tender. The sides were a miss. All in all, it's certainly not great. It could do a lot better if it paid just a little more attention to details. Dressing on the salad probably saves them money and makes the diner feel a little more loved. Mashed potatoes that are topped with gravy that hasn't congealed would also be appreciated. This isn't a fine dining establishment by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a serviceable place that can surprise if you're just passing through in need of a meal.

Damn...I really wanted to like this place. The location is awesome, our server was really nice and helpful, it was a gorgeous day...the food was hilariously awful. For all you looking for a spot to hit after your swamp tours, try Voleo's right down the road instead. We ordered a shrimp cocktail, crawfish pies, the fried chicken, a roast beef po-boy, and a crabmeat po-boy. The shrimp cocktail seemed to be made with frozen shrimp. If they were local (skeptical), they were definitely frozen prior to being served because they were still frozen when they were placed in front of me. They were the tiny salad variety topped with, literally, a glob of cocktail sauce from a bottle with no horseradish. In my opinion, a shrimp cocktail is probably the easiest dish to not mess up but they managed it. Do yourself a favor and don't get the crawfish pies either. I assume that they are from Sam's Club or someplace...there was not a single crawfish tail in any of the four identical little stuffed pastries. How on Earth they got their reputation in a fishing community serving these little abominations I'll never know. I guess I'd have been pretty happy if I had picked them up from a fast-food drive through window or microwaved them myself at 4am after a long night of heavy drinking. The salad was literally a plastic bowl of that plastic bagged iceberg lettuce mix topped with the cheapest dressing available. The roast beef has some gelatinous gravy on it and I have absolutely no idea what the hell the thick layer of off-white sludge was that covered my crabmeat po-boy was. I assume some of it originated in a crab but you would never be able to tell unless you were told. I took one bite and the server threw the rest away (without asking if there was anything wrong with it). As if she had to ask. I give the fried chicken a solid B. Certainly not worth seeking out but maybe a decent option if you are forced to eat here by someone. The cheese on the accompanying baked potato, however, was the neon orange nacho cheese preferred by stadium food vendors everywhere...and yes, there was a crap-load of it. I'm guessing the locals eat here due to either 1) lack of options or 2) lack of a discerning palate.

Where the locals come to eat!!!!! You want real cajun/creole food, then haul yourself all the way down to Lafitte! Ok, so I never stepped a foot inside the restaurant...but I've gotten food from Boutte's via coworkers who live in Lafitte...and their gumbo is SO freakin good, it's MMMMMMMmMMM-freakin fantastic!!!!!!!!!! The gumbo is nice and dark, bit salty, but w/ okra and rice swimming in it and you bite into that andouille sausage and chicken and grab a crab claw with your fingers to take a nibble....ohhh man is that good. The shrimp poboy is pretty good too! Comes dressed (mayo, lettuce, and tomato) and the shrimp is seasoned and fried a light golden brown. Oooh, get onion rings w/ it, and your stomach will be happy! Boutte's serves the town of Lafitte - a very small and (haughty) proud folk of simple seafood lovin locals. People in Lafitte live, sleep, breathe SEAFOOD as most families here have fished/trawled all their lives..so if they come to Boutte's, then obviously the restaurant is doing something right. *I get really kinda scared coming down to Lafitte, as the majority of the folk...aren't open-minded. But tourism is their livelihood, so if you go on the swamp tours with them to watch for gators, then take your time to go to Boutte's! It's a bit of a drive down ONE road, but you can't miss it, tons of cars parked around it!

Our fishing guide stopped by here and picked us up couple shrimp po-boys. I have had some good po-boys while in New Orleans so this were just OK but since we were in Lafitte and fishing all morning this was mighty tasty. Not sure what else is in town but didn't look like much and this place was pretty packed. So I'm guessing this might be one of the best places here in Lafitte. Didn't care so much for their sweet tea though?

AWFUL. AWFUL. AWFUL. The wait staff was the RUDEST I have ever dealt with. Bayou Barn suggested it (in Lafitte to go kayaking, live in New Orleans so this is not a cultural thing) and I would rather starve than deal with such foul people again! As for the food, HORRIBLE! The cheese on potato and fries was from a "nacho cheese" can, the sautéed mushrooms were from a can, they had a tomatoes and lettuce salad, but forgot to mention no tomatoes so they brought bowls of wet lettuce (one bowl stacked on top and inside of another so the bottom of one bowl sat on top of the lettuce of the bowl underneath. Crawfish tasted Asian not local. They had no fried oyster plate or fried oysters for po-boy, and though they have a fried crawfish plate and fried crawfish appetizer they don't make a fried crawfish poboy. I have never before my visit not left a tip, having spent way to many years in the service industry in me teens but they warranted and received nothing. I could not even get them to bring water or bother to come to the table and ask if the four of us needed anything, like silver wear, another bill, our check or to go box (food went to dogs, they seemed to enjoy it, but they sit at home licking themselves all day). This was one of the worst, if not the worst, food experience I have even had, and it is all thanks to the wait staff. On the basis of food and environment alone, I would have rated a 2, oh yeah, bring cash, no cards taken. One last though, I have used and known about yelp for years, the experience was so bad here, I finally signed up for an account, if that says anything.

My husband, his friend and myself went here in March '10. It was one of the best experiences I had in LA. I gave it 5 stars for food quality and experience. Authentic. I'm guessing it was a residence at one time. It's small, maybe 8-10 tables. Windows open with curtains blowing in the breeze. You know you've struck gold though, when you see locals in there chowing down. One gentleman in particular must have been 80 years old. The server walked right over with his gumbo before she did anything else. Speaking of gumbo-don't curse me, but it's not one of my favorite things. Our friend ordered it and I must admit it was quite tasty. I had a cup red beans and rice and a fried oyster roll. I wish I had the time and space to wrtie what a religious experience this was for me-I still dream about it at night. It was absolutely, positively FANTASTIC. My husband had these little crawfish cakes as an app. - again, fan-TASTIC. I loved everything about this place, right down to our waitresses reading glasses on a chain around her neck. Next time I visit NOLA - I am totally going back.
