I came upon Stingrays through a recommendation for gumbo from a local. It was a Sunday afternoon so they weren't very busy. I saw the reviews right before entering so i wasn't expecting much but I was wrong. The waitress and busboy were attentive. I ordered the fried crawfish platter and the serving was more than enough. I only added a bit of pepper to the mac and cheese to get it just right. My friend had the gumbo with no complaints so I guess I went on a good day.

My son wanted to try oysters for the first time so I took him here as it is conveniently located next to the mall. The greeter was polite and sat us promptly but the table was sticky. I felt like I was having my arms waxed every time the touched the table top. This issue was quickly fixed. In hindsight we should have left at this point. We placed our orders and appetizer (oysters). After we were eating our oysters the manager came to inform me that they were out of lobster. It took over 45 mins to alert me to this no no mention my child's meal was ready. They acted upset when I asked for the check. I should have been the one upset as we ended up eating at McDonald's. By the way the oysters were not that great. No taste to them. We will not return.

I went here years ago. Never said I would go back again but this place has changed for the better. The owners are different the food is great. I love the seafood salad. It has crawfish shrimp and crabmeat in it. we went her for a small family gathering my cousin had the seafood wrap that is an apitizer he said that it had so much seafood in it and the cream sauce that was on the top was delicious. we all enjoyed our meal. I don't know why so many bad reviews. If you have not been here in a long I recommend you give it another try. PS. kenner seafood used to be my place to go too. not anymore that place has gone down in the last year.

Horrible customer service I ordered a drink and was told no substitute on my drink this is my first and only time at this pretentious establishment. Also the Owner/Manger what ever she is was extremely rude!

I must say it was a tiny bit frustrating. When I go somewhere alone I try to sit up at the bar if there is one, but for some reason I wanted a table tonight. I was seated right away, but it took time for a waitress to come to the table. She took my drink order and seemed to take forever to come back with my drink. I even thought of leaving because it took a bit. Anyway I stayed and ordered. My food did not take too long to come out and it was pretty good. It had a bit too much sauce for my liking so I only ate a little bit but it had a nice flavor. The waitress never came back to check on me. I asked for a box, and I figured she would bring the box and check. Not so. I kept waiting for her to bring the check and was about to get up and go to the bar when someone asked if I needed something. I finally got the check and was happy I had cash because I was not willing to wait for a credit receipt.

This is simply the worst place to eat. Our meal was terrible. Crap cakes awful, stuffed mushrooms awful and crawfish awful. I will never eat there again.

Went on an off day, Thursday for a late lunch, called 1st lunch was till 4 p.m., we arrived inside the restaurant at 3 p.m.; we were asked what we wanted to drink and ordered, about 5 minutes later she returned with our drinks, after reviewing the lunch menu and ordering the waitress left our table with our order at 3:10 p.m. Lunch was a half a fried chicken each, the wife got a side of Cajun garlic potatoes and I got the fried onion rings. At about 3:35, we were told it would be just a few more minutes and our order would be right out. At 3: 42 pm we were told that it would be 4 more minutes, at 3:54 p.m. we got our order. I started with my onion rings and the wife started with her potatoes; but, before she could get her napkin on her lap the waitress was gone...no butter for the potatoes, and the onion rings were still uncooked...now the crust around the onion rings was cooked but the insides were still crunchy/raw. Frozen onion rings, I thought, the batter cooked by the time the onion rings thawed enough to start cooking. It didn't get any better. the half a chicken was all in one piece and no steak knife to cut it into two pieces nor to remove the wing. We noticed that this chicken was extra brown...over cooked I though. Yep, so I suggested that we eat the dark meat first as it is usually more moist than the breast. Even it was extra dry. The waitress gave my wife more water in her glass but my empty soda glass went unattended. She returned 5 minutes later as she observed that we may have had enough, and asked "How was everything?" I told her, raw onions but hey I eat raw onions every day but in salads, and the chicken was so over cooked that we only could attempt to eat the hind quarters. She said "let me see what I can do?" Came back: "The manager says that you can change it if you want to." I said "No we've already been here over an hour and one half and we have to be somewhere before 5 p.m. Just bring us a box for the chicken breasts, I'll debone it when I get home and make chicken salad out of it". She chirped, "Ok" brought the boxes and we departed at 4:33 p.m. My advice, don't order the half a fried chicken here, go to Popeye's or Johnny Trauth's has a great half a fried chicken, but not here. On Fridays, they have great fried catfish with excellent white beans for lunch; but their cook cannot fry chicken, so don't do it. Stick with the seafood, the boil pretty good crawfish too...a tad heavy on the cloves, but good. Oh, the waitress did seem genuinely concerned; but she was very busy. But the cook should set a timer on the chicken or use a meat thermometer and when the breast and the thigh bone get to 165 f , pull it out, it's cooked.

Tuesday is steak and lobster for $16.95. It is a real wine lobster not some pseudo lobster like the Big Red chain. Friendly staff. Lots of locals who clearly are regulars.

The food has been good on all of my four visits. The service however, was consistently atrocious. On one occasion, They refused to sit us outside because of it being slow and not wanting to send a server out there. Imagine being told on one of the few cool, sunny days we get in this area that you must sit indoors because it would be inconvenient for the staff to sit you outside. Not to mention the erratic behavior of the wait staff. They would be right at home in a theme restaurant in Orlando. This place needs to lower their prices or raise the level of service. Until then, eat at the bar or takeout. Once again; the food is good which is why I give it 2 stars instead of 1.

We have lived next door to this place for 8 months, and due to the really negative reviews, we have never tried it. Due to a long wait at a place we really enjoy today, we decided to give it a shot. The interior is nice and it seemed clean. I was not impressed with our waitress, she seemed uncomfortable and the dialogue seemed forced. We ordered the eggplant sticks, it is served with a red sauce, it was like eating eggplant parmesan. Not what I was thinking it was going to be, it was ok. We ordered the seafood sliders, shrimp remoulade po boy and an oyster po boy. The oyster po boy is not marked at market price, but they told us it was going to be a higher price due to the higher price of oysters. The food was good. We enjoyed the shrimp po boys. The oysters were good, but dressed poorly. The sanwiches do not come with anything, so I ordered a side of fries. They were good, but a very small portion for the price. The sliders were not dressed as we were told they would be. I had ordered an iced tea mid meal, but I never received it, in fact, we did not see our waitress throughout our meal. All in all, it was not the worst meal or experience I have ever, but no where close to the best.

Place is OK. Looks in need of a make over, front door looks ancient and the painted floor looks horrible. Too many employees, most hanging out near the kitchen or wiping down menus at a front table (4 or so hostesses, really??). Hostess station is a dinning table... It was a Friday night and it was maybe 30% full, prob more employees than customers. The food wasn't bad, nothing spectacular. Sweet potato fries were a bit bland. Catfish poboy was ok, could have gotten a much better one from Danny & Clyde's. I think the lemon wedges had been sitting out for a couple days... Can't complain about service, server was nice and attentive. Food came out in a reasonable about of time and was 100% accurate.

If you like fresh seafood and good service - this in of the places to go. Very friendly staff and just an open family atmosphere. Customers seem to blend in as one big group. The seafood is fresh and prepared just right. The decor is very basic but comfortable. Dress is very casual. I had the fried catfish and oysters while my wife had the pecan crusted catfish. We were both very pleased with the quality, flavor and certainly with the quantity. They do not hold back and they want to make sure that you leave with a full stomach. I have to again say that the service was great and we enjoyed talking to the other customers around us. Just a friendly local place.

So we just placed our order for something very simple, but its a quiet resturaunt to my views with an absolutely amazing spinach and artichoke dip! :]

The service sucks from the management side. He's a younger Caucasian male and has visited with almost every Caucasian table. I've haven't seen him come to an African American table yet, and I've been here almost 2 hours. That alone is completely unprofessional and a turn off.

So I must say I thought I would never come back to Stingrays but the restaurant has completely turned around their staffing issues!! Our server Melissa was so friendly and helpful. She was able to suggest everything from food picks to cool places to find new jewelry (her earrings were super cute!). This is the type of restaurant you expect in New Orleans and the South in general; a place that makes you feel like you are at home. The night manager Dave was equally friendly. Stingrays has a nice family friendly atmosphere with a fountain in the center. I had the fish platter with steamed broccoli and my husband had the chicken tender platter with the Cajun potatoes. The portions are family size and the prices are wallet friendly. I am so glad I gave you guys another chance! We will be back very soon!!

We had a party of twelve so we shared 4 appetizers, awesome! I couldn't believe the serving sizes in everything that we had. They don't let you leave hungry that's for sure! If you do its your fault! Every dish was perfect! What more can I say? Well I can say this "I can hardly wait to go back"! Kerry K. Walker, La.

I enjoyed my charboiled grilled oysters. I also enjoyed my margarita that was like a double shot of patron with some strawberry puree in it. It really didn't taste like a margarita but that's fine cause I enjoyed it for every bit of $7.50 I payed for it. However, you must catch it for happy hour! !

A two hour dinner "experience" from hell. The SERVICE was so poor I am speechless. I could have sworn my guests and I were on a tv show being pushed to our very limits of frustration before the host swooped in to buy us dinner. It all started with a 37 MINUTE WAIT for two appetizers. Another 40 MINUTE WAIT for four entrees. The server was unacceptably inattentive & just plain slow. Refills, ToGo boxes, the check... Everything took forever! Way overpriced too! The manager, Dave, removed only one of the appetizers (chargrilled oysters) from our check after having to send them back for clearly not being fresh (I requested he remove them. He did not offer to do so). Do yourself a favor and skip this joint... WAY TOO MANY other options for delicious seafood in the area!

Stingrays be rolling! That spicy potato salad and the seafood is a solid meal and never disappoints me!

This is on behalf of my mom and stepdad who are not on Yelp (I have not been here in years, so this is completely their opinion). They were sat at a table and went unacknowledged for 10 minutes. My mom told me that their table was in the middle of the dining room, so they should have been seen. She saw 5 servers, none of whom came to the table, so they left. They will not be going back and she has posted a complaint on their Facebook page as well. My wife and I may give them another chance down the road as we have had good experiences there in the past, but my mom will not.

Worst experience at a restaurant EVER. Waited 1.5 hours to be sat. (There was no wait at the restaurant). We had a party of 11 however parties of 7 were sat before us even though our WHOLE party had arrived before theirs. Another 30 minutes waiting for our order to be taken. Waited 45 minutes for our food. Extremely rude hostesses. Management did nothing to help the situation. In fact the managers sat at the bar staring at us enjoying their beverages while we stood in the middle of a restaurant waiting for the rest of the chairs to complete our table. At one point while waiting for extra plates one of the individuals eating with us went told a manager how long we had been waiting and the manager did nothing to help. Do not go eat here. At all. Ever. If your starving there is a McDonald's next door.

Great neighborhood place offering excellent value and good friendly service. Quality of food is above average while portion size is most generous. Specialty is fried catfish and boiled crawfish (wish I took a picture of both for you, sorry). Bottom line: I'd return.

We tried Stingrays tonight after staying away for several years. I was highly disappointed. The quality of the food was not very good. We paid 7.95 extra for a soft shell crab that I needed a magnifying glass to see. The stuffed crab was ALL bread. We could not find any crab. The french fries were so bad my 4 year olds spit them out. I tried the sweet potato hush puppies and they were so dense and chewy I could hardly swallow them. We will not be returning. It was too much money to spend to not enjoy it. We could have gotten more food that tasted better for less money at the Blue Crab.

Great tastings food and fantastic service. The manager Dave is charming touch and he really cares if the customers are happy. My wife had the boiled shrimp., they were quite large and great tasting. I had the fried shrimp and oyster plate with fries and delicious onion rings.Yes we have been to those other seafood restaurants, but nothing compares to Stingrays! Looking forward to going back!

Horrible...with soooo many GOOD dining options in a foodie city like New Orleans, why would one CHOOSE to go here? Well, in my case, the blame is squarely on the cheap/impatient "elders" in our group of five who didn't want to wait more than 5 minutes to eat, or took one look at a menu and deemed it "too expensive." Every place we we GOING to eat at for dinner on a Sunday night had a wait (Mandinas - 45, Harbor - line was too long out the door so didn't even stop, Smittys - 25). Stingrays had no wait...that right there should have been the flashing warning, but the old guys didn't want to wait anymore (BTW, if we'd stayed at Mandina's, we'd be seated and eating GREAT FOOD already). Everything came out like it had been sitting under heat lamps. The fried catfish was soggy and not crispy at all; all sides were tepid and/or mushy. Only good thing for me was the sweet tea. Never again...

Maybe this place goes up and down in quality and service. Maybe they react differently to different diners(attitude for attitude maybe?). When we went there, our waitress was attentive and funny. The place itself was nice and simple and we enjoyed the environment. Their version of a blooming onion was great. The fried shrimps rocked and they didn't skimp on the oysters, either. Price-wise, it's pretty much in the middle. Flavor and portion-wise, I put them up in the 60 percentile area. Waitstaff...I'd put them in the 80 percentile. We have been there twice and had nothing but a good experience.

Looking at some of the other reviews it appears that this place is hit or miss - well, I guess I caught them on a "miss" night. The restaurant was moderately crowded - not packed, but busy. There were a few open tables. We were seated promptly and immediately noticed that we were sitting right under an AC vent. My dining companion was complaining of being uncomfortably cold (it was) and I asked that we be moved to another table. Apparently, this request took an act of congress to be approved. But eventually we were moved to a booth that was more comfortable (note: by this point we had already ordered). Apparently, and according to our waitress, a patron's request to change tables confuses the kitchen and delays the food (why? I have no idea. Food took forever to be served. Therefore I just go with what I am told). First Bottom Line: I'm not impressed with the service. Now for the food: We both had shrimp po-boys -I had a cup of gumbo with mine and she a cup of corn chowder with hers. Shrimp po-boys were passable. Not awful but far, far from the best. The shrimp were sort of cold - you know, like maybe the po-boys had been sitting out for a bit? The gumbo - petty bad. Had a very fishy taste - kind of unpleasant. Took a lot of Tabasco to render it eatable. Corn chowder was OK. We had also ordered a serving of something called cajun potatoes. Can't say if they were good or bad because we never got'em. Asked the waitress and were told that it would take another 20 minutes or so for them to be ready. Needless to say the omission of the potatoes was also blamed on the patron's request to switch tables. Really??? Second Bottom Line: Bad gumbo, mediocre everything else. Bottom bottom line: don't think I'll be back

We used to visit Stingray's a ton before Katrina. We went back and weren't impressed in ~2008ish and never went back. I heard through the grapevine that Stingray's was back and better than ever. My husband and I went one Saturday morning and they were right! Service was good, atmosphere was great, food was amazingly fresh and came fast! My husband got the Zydeco catfish (AMAZING) and I got the fried shrimp plate. Just as a warning, the food is pretty spicy. The shrimp seemed fine until I ate about 5 of them and my mouth was on fire. I doused them in ketchup though and it was fine :) The Zydeco catfish and the potato salad were also super spicy, but still yummy. I'm knocking 1 star off for the service (the waiter wasn't super friendly and was crazy quiet, he also didnt deliver our food or drinks.. it was kind of odd to me) and for the fact that the food was so spicy that not everyone could enjoy it here. If you want fresh seafood and don't mind spicy food, I suggest Stingray's!

I rated this restaurant this low because I found the food to be mediocre. I could have went the neighborhood seafood shack and got better food.

A friend of mine picked Stingrays for her birthday dinner. When I saw the building I was iffy already but hey it wasn't my birthday. lol. I ordered their weekend special which was the amberjack and it was GROSS. Absolutely no flavor and a horrible texture. Til this day when I think about it I still want to barf! Nasty nasty.

WOW! It seems we had a TOTALLY different ding experience than the four people who didn't enjoy Stingray's! The food was amazing! Fried foods were cooked just right in obviously clean (fresh) oil... the red sauce served with their eggplant sticks was so good, I can't wait to try their parmesan! We had a new "watress in training" (Madison), who was very friendly and most attentive. I hope she is there to serve us when we return. The only fair criticism I have is the windows produce a strange, foggy affect... not pleasing to the senses.

Never AGAIN! I took my parents to eat at Stingrays while they came to visit, I have always wanted to eat at the resturant but never found the time to go. The service we terriable I order soup when I asked for a soup spoon I was given a regular spoon. When I said may I have a soup spoon she told me that was a soup spoon wow how SIMPLE is that. The seats were tight and their was no room the waitress dropped water on my mothe's dress. I order a cream pasta and the pasta was cold after waiting for more then a hour. We asked for simple things such as napkins and more water it took us asking to speak with the manager to get those things and it still took him a while. It seems as though they could careless if we were happy or not. This is one place I will never go back to or suggest to ANYONE not even my worse ENEMY!

I used to go here before Katrina for their great lunch deal on their pork chop plate. Even then they were inconsistent but now they are more so. Last time I went I had a seafood pasta dish. The pasta was overcooked and the service was practically non-existent -the waitress brought the food and that was it. We also sat there a while before we were acknowledged and knew if we'd be waited on at all.

Place needs a face lift...& a good cleaning. The burger was really good...had an "old fashioned" taste. The swamp fries are nasty...you'll want to stay away from that. The prices are VERY reasonable. Would like to try their seafood on the next trip, as they have some very interesting dishes.

WARNING: DON'T GO HERE IF YOU'RE ON A DIET! My boyfriend and I discovered this restaurant about two years ago and have always had a good experience here, except for the last time. This restaurant has NEVER failed to give large portions of literally ANYTHING you order! So you always get the best bang for your buck. We usually get the onion rings or the fried pickles as an appetizer. The onion rings are the best I've tried here! Although they are oily and highly unhealthy for you, something about it is just really good! The fried pickles are pretty good too. Some places make it too salty, but this was just right! As entrees, my boyfriend usually gets the Jambalaya pasta, which was always really good until the last time we ate here. It's supposed to be more spicy and jambalaya flavoer-based, but the last time was like eating pasta with marinara. I'm not sure if they decided to change the recipe, or if it was the end of the night so they wanted to be lazy, but I surely hope it won't be like that next time! The jambalaya pastas are one of the best things there, so maybe they were just having a bad day. I usually get the Cajun Seafood pasta, which is also usually very good, but the last time this was also very off. It was SOOOOO creamy and barely spicy. I could barely eat it, because it was so creamy. I was just disappointed. It seemed like they messed up everything that night except for the onion rings which were perfect! For dessert, we usually get the cheesecake eggrolls which are also good! It comes with bananas and caramel. Perfect way to end a meal. The service here is always good, and the waiters are always nice. They recently remodeled so it looks MUCH more modern and classier from before. I'm going to give Stingray's the benefit of the doubt and just say they were having a bad night. This was the first time we EVER had a bad experience, thus the 4-star rating. If this happens again, I'll be sure to change my ratings of this place.

As you walked in they had people painting and blasting rap music. Then we got seated and waited for 15 min and no one served us so I can't tell you how the food was because we never got food. But the service was the worst.
