Mike's is a well known family restaurant in Amite. The owner and his family do an outstanding job running this restaurant that we have come to know and love! There's not one time that I come here that I'm disappointed! Mike's is and always has been consistent for years on end. The seafood here is wonderful! It's great comfort food and the locals rave about Mike's quality all the time. Amite is the seat of parish (county) government, so during the week employees from various offices around town can be found here. On weekends, families, friends, church groups, etc. can be found dining at Mike's! My most recent visit was tonight! We wanted a good salad and good fish. The salad bar is simple but AMAZING!!!! The vegetables are fresh, NEVER FROZEN! There was an All-Star team in the large group room; at least 30 people. The owner (who's been there every single time I've gone since I was at least 15 years old) and his wife gave the group Mike's shirts (as a thank you I guess). This is just a testament to the level of service you can expect each and every time you walk through the doors of this "seat yourself" establishment!

Not completely wow'd. Stopped in here randomly for some good seafood and a salad. I ordered the special which was red beans and rice with a side of catfish. This included a trip to the salad bar, which I was happy about. Salad bar was a let down. Shredded lettuce and fake bacon bits. Not a good start for me. Very 1995 if you ask me. Red beans were a little watery and the catfish wasn't seasoned very much. I'm not saying it was awful or anything, but definitely won't be in a hurry to come back here. I can say that the service was very good though. This place pleases the masses, and that's just not the kind of food I want to spend my money on.

The food here is very good. I had the large popcorn shrimp platter, which was HUGE. It was actually enough for 2-3 people. I ate off of it for 3 days!!! The shrimp were very flavorful and the batter was light and crispy. Not heavy or greasy. The platter also came with the salad bar. At first glance, the salad bar appears very unassuming, but the contents are quite tasty. They do have imitation bacon bits but will be more than accommodating if you ask for real bacon. The broccoli salad and corn maque choux on the bar are great. The staff was very friendly, particularly our waitress LeAnn. She was very attentive and extremely personable. This is a "down home" kind of place. No frills, which is great when you want to just dress comfortably and enjoy good food in a place with an "everyone is family" vibe. This is a seafood place, so I would recommend getting what they are known for. Side note..the onion rings are AWESOME!! Anyway, check this place out and see for yourself.

Nice size Seafood plater. Love the Sweet Potato fries. Make sure to ask for the cinnamon dipping sauce! Yummo! The service was outstanding on a packed night! Will remember this place!

Stopped because of the reviews. The shrimp and corn soup is delicious. Great shrimp po-boys. We will definitely be back.

I can only speak of the seafood platter because that's what I go there for. It is well worth the 45 minute drive. The oysters are big, juicy and fried to perfection. The catfish tastes clean and fresh and the shrimps are big and juicy with a light, crisp batter. The salad bar is awesome, and has some items not found everywhere else. I could very well make a meal of just the salad bar, but, as I've said, I go there for the seafood platter. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. The new Louisiana life murals painted on the wall by RC Davis are an 'eyecatcher' and totally capture the identity of a Louisiana seafood restaurant.

I totally dug this place. Amazing servers that knew all the regulars, very accommodating to special requests (Dad's 73 and wanted a little more rice in his gumbo, etc), delicious catfish, very bright and clean. Looking forward to returning!

First time here and I must say that I will return! I had the fish and shrimp combination. They were both tasty and fulfilling. I like their fries also. They also gave me access to the salad bar with my order. Michelle was an awesome server! Please ask for her and leave a big tip, she will deserve it! Great place!

Gross! Thin catfish had nasty gray fat on every piece! No seasoning! My friend got the grilled and said it was no good at all. Friendly service and good salad bar. WILL NOT RETURN!!

While the menu needs a serious update, the food here is always consistent and quick. The staff seems to like working and generally are quick to service you're needs. The fried catfish is decent quality and the fried chicken is fresh. They poboys are basic, I ask if the bread is fresh first. I like the salad bar, which is sort of a dying thing in restaurants now a days.

Since I work close to this restaurant, I have had the opportunity to eat here on many occasions over the last few years. I usually go at lunch, but I believe that the menu is the same (except for lunch specials). Overall the food is good and the prices are very reasonable. I usually get the fried shrimp with sweet potato fries. The shrimp are always large, butterflied, and well cooked. The sweet potato fries are more like sweet potato disks. They are sliced into circles and fried. Although they are edible, they are usually a little greasy and soft (not a good combination). I probably need to order the regular baked sweet potato in the future. The thing I like best about Mike's is the salad bar that comes with almost every meal. There is a wide variety of salad toppings as well as cole slaw, potato salad, pea salad, and macaroni salad. I like it because you create your own salad and can get as much as you want. To me, it adds value to the meal. The next time I go, I will try something different - like a plate lunch so that I can give you better idea of the food here.
