This is by no means a fancy gourmet establishment. Charlie's is a down home, old school fried fish shack. No frills here, not even a sitting area. And you can't say they're very cheap either... Their signature meal runs a hefty $9.25. However, what they do, they do extremely well. And they don't skimp either. You definitely get your money's worth! The fish is more than plentiful (two pieces as wide as the box it comes in) and light, flaky, and fried to perfectly. Not overly greasy, either. An entire basket of crispy. krinkle fries and 4 bite-size hush puppies with bite! My suggestion: order the Whitefish Meal, order an extra bun and tartar sauce, and split it with someone (work friend, significant other, a child, guy behind you in line, whatever makes you comfortable). Or, eat the whole thing by yourself and try not to move too much for the next few hours, like I did. This place doesn't need innovation or refinement. It's a local tradition. And a darn good one at that.

We had the white fish dinner it was good but not excellent by any means. Chicken Tenders were also good, but that's about all I can say. Don't listen to all the reviews we ordered 2 meals and weren't stuffed by any means.

Terrific hot, crispy fried catfish sandwich at decent price. One negative -- it's only carry-out.

Ate here for the first time today. We ordered the whitefish special. The sandwich had so much fish on it we could barely finish. Add fries, hush puppies and slaw and it's almost too much food. Fish was fried to perfection. Only thing that would make it better was if there was a dinning room. But I plan on eating in my car in the parking lot many times in the future.

Visited for the first time and couldnt believe the size of the fish I got with my meal. I got and seafood platter because I wanted to try fried oysters for the first time. It came with 4, 4 jumbo shrimp and the huge piece of fish that measured from the tip of my finger to my elbow along with 3 potatoes worth of fries 4 hushpuppies and slaw. All of it was great for the price but its a carryout place so be forewarned.

Some good fish at a good price! You can walk in and get the special. It is so good and plenty to eat. You could want less if you are trying to eat a light lunch or something. So good! They also have fresh fish and sometimes the line to get food can be long if you go certain times of day.

THE best fish sandwich in Lexington. Be prepared to stand outside in line on Fridays during lent! I wish they had a dining room!

Great hush puppies (crispy on the outside, tender and spicy on the inside) and the slaw is pretty good. I've tried their famous fish sandwich, clams, and shrimp dinners (both with fries and with onion rings) it's all good, but mostly because it all tastes the same. Not a complaint really, just a heads-up. So if you're looking for a *heavy* lunch or dinner to go, Charlie's will get the job done. They do have a great fresh seafood selection you can take home to prepare yourself if you're looking for something not deep fried.

Best giant fish sammich in the state. Go. Get there early for luch and behold the fishy goodness.

Awesome place. Best fish sandwich ever, but there is zero ambiance so you can forget about that. It's a carry out so please don't expect more. Large portions and very fresh. The employees (except for one) aren't overtly friendly but they answer questions and packed condiments in my bag without me having to ask so that works too.

Very busy around lunch time. All your food is prepared fresh right in front of your eyes. Stop in and grab a HUGE slab of fish on a seemingly tiny bun and piled with french fries and hush puppies. You will not regret it. They also sell fresh sea food if you wish to cook it at your home.

Not a bad fish sandwich, and a really huge portion. From the makers of "Charlie's Angels", "Charlie Brown" and, er, "Charlie The Unicorn". Friendly service and an absolutely enormous double-fish sandwich for a very low price. The fish was juicy and tasty... a little bland but the Ken's Tartar is good. I'm not a huge fan of this sort of food so I'm not a great person to judge... comparing it to British Fish N Chips is a joke... nothing comes close. But for American fish sandwiches, I'll definitely give this a 4/5 and the locals seem to agree, as the line was out the door and the wait was long, and worth it :) As I said in my other review, my Lexington concert was not particularly great. However, this place was a lone enjoyable moment. However, I did not know what a good fish sandwich was, until I tried "Bailey Seafood" in Buffalo. That would make any other fish sandwich on earth seem not worthy of the bread it was swimming on.

A tiny little place to stop in and grab some great food if you are looking for something quick and easy. It's not really a place to sit down and eat so it's better if you are planning to take it elsewhere. I tried the fish sandwich per all the recommendations and I was pleasantly surprised. It didn't blow my mind or anything, but it tasted great and it was pretty gigantic. It's more of a fish platter with a bun thrown on it. (Not that I'm complaining.) Hush puppies were also very good. Worth a trip back whenever it might pop in my mind.

For being land locked, this place is par for the course. I've seen fresher seafood at Krogers/Walmart/Meijer and at MUCH better prices. Purchased frozen shrimp today. Clean place, case was amply stocked, but the ones thawed had a bright pink color, not grey. I purchased the frozen, got them home and prepared them to go into a pasta salad. They have a heavy iodine taste and these are labled as gulf shrimp. Growing up on the gulf side of florida and having family with shirmping boats, I have never tasted anything this strong.

One of the best places in Lexington to get a fish sandwich. Very generous portions. Enough fish to make two sandwiches actually. Staff is friendly and service is fast.

Excellent food. The fish sandwich on rye is king.

Delicious fried fish sandwich. Fed two people though we weren't extremely hungry. It can difficult to park here however. And when you get there, you stand in line ad pick up your food when they call your number. I can't remember if there was seating inside, but if there were, there wasn't a lot of seating.

I too am rating based on the prepared/cooked foods. Charlies has the biggest fish sandwich in Lexington hands down, fresh and cooked to order. As for the frozen or fresh side of this market, I have never indulged so cannot rate it fairly. The sides are good, I usually have coleslaw, hush pups and fries. I would like to see them offer a spicier or more seasoned version of what they have already perfected, other than that the fish is piping hot, tasty and so large you may need to ask for 2 buns. Parking is kinda tricky but I usually find my way in there somehow:-)

The first time I drove by I thought: That's the kind of place I want to eat at. We finally got the chance tonight when we went down to West Sixth to have some Habenero Loko, and the food truck wasn't there yet! Discouraged and hungry, we took advantage of our disappointment and went to Charlie's for the first time. The fish portions on the sandwich are big and help you forget the meh bun from a factory somewhere. The hush puppies are nicely spiced. The fries are completely forgettable, frozen from a package, and they bring down the fish. The tartar sauce is prepackaged from Kens. Another let down to the fish. So , the fish sandwich is nice and comforting, but I'm not sure I get the crowds and people waiting. Charlie's is ok. I just wish they did real fries. Fries are a measuring stick of a place overall.

im basing my review on the food I've gotten there. Best fish sandwich in Lexington! Their hush puppies are fantastic! Parking can suck at their more busy times...but it's worth it.

Best fish sandwich in town! This fish sandwich really is as good as your going to find from coast to coast. I love to cram some fries and slaw on this huge fish sandwich. Call them before you go and you won't have to wait in line for your sando. They also have fresh fish here but I've never ventured there just stick w the fish sando and you will be a happy yelper.

I love Charlie's, best fish in town. It's in a shady part of town but well worth it for the fish. Try their fish sandwich and hush puppies it's amazing or just pick up some fish to cook at home it's all good never been let down. Also Charlie's has good ice tea. The famous fish sandwich is huge and will cover you for lunch and dinner.

Best fish sandwich you can find more than 10 miles from the ocean. Always fresh and always great, almost all fried though. Worth the line, it's a Lexington experience you shouldnt miss.

As they boldly proclaim on the storefront, Charlie's really does serve up the best (and biggest!) fish sandwich in Lexington. It's cheap too; about what you'd pay for the same amount of food at the fast food seafood chain a few blocks away. Seating, however, is non-existant and there is no drive-thru. Charlie's is first and foremost a fish market that happens to have a few lunch items, so if you're just there to grab a bite, you will have to stand around while you wait, and then you'll either have to eat in the car or drive somewhere else. If you're not in any kind of hurry, though, it's worth it.
