I've been going to Chen's for a few months now after relocating to the area. It was the first Chinese place that I have tried in the area - and haven't gone searching for any others! The employees are always very friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious and affordable. I would say that this is more of a take out restaurant versus a place that I would go to dine in. Whether you call ahead or pick it up, it always has been a quick wait for us!

Don't expect a "dining experience." Call ahead. 913-268-1668. Get it to go. Always freshly cooked. Always accurate orders. Friendly people with real good food. We get the Garlic Chicken and Shrimp LoMein with egg rolls and hot & sour soup. Steamed dumplings are good if you're avoiding fried food. Dial up or down the spicyness. It's hard to beat the prices and the quality. REVISED 12-30-2014 IN the past few months have noticed that quality and order accuracy has slid. While I want to support this family-run spot, they have stopped earning my raves and my business. I go elsewhere now for Chinese carry-out.

Simple, quick, good Chinese food. It deserves repeat business's from our family!

They have the best lo-mien and sesame chicken I have ever had. Friendly and super quick.

I have enjoyed Chen's after recently moving into the neighborhood. I call in my take out orders and they are always hot and ready to go when I arrive. They always have a smile for repeat customers! The important thing is the food. It is good for the price and above average when compared to a buffet or some of the other fast food Chinese takeouts in town. I would recommend their Kung Pao chicken or beef dishes in a combo with an egg roll or goon. Yum!

For what it is, strip mall Chinese, it is pretty alright. They do several varieties of tofu here, which makes it a stand out from all of the other strip mall Chinese restaurants in the Kansas City area. Why is is that most places around here do not have General Tso's tofu? Why must they only serve bean curd family style? Why why why? Anyway, their tofu is good. It's not the best you'll ever have. The sauces are all a little too sweet, but that can easily be counteracted with the right condiments. My only real complaint would be the lack of vegetables. Eating a whole plate of tofu is a little boring. I mean, I will do it, but I will be bored. If it was the only Chinese restaurant in the area and I had no idea what better options there were out there, Chen's Kitchen would get 4 stars. Since I know what else is out there, I will happily eat here when the family gets together and wants this variety of Chinese food.

My first time there,; we have a regular that delivers to our home however, I wanted quality Asian. So, I went to the ratings & looked for high rated Asian Food in my area & Chen's Kitchen was top. Wasn't to far to drive, small Resturant (not a date nite dine-in) service friendly & relatively patient. (For a senior new, to some dishes) The spring rolls were perfect as was my primary dish w/w, chicken veggies & rice noodles. However, the Chicken Fried Rice was too salty. Otherwise great. I'm sure it was the Soy Sauce. I never add Soy Sauce though for that reason. I will definitely return & recommend Chen's Kitchen to friends & such. (Just try to figure out how to reduce the salt K)

If I am out on the west side in JoCo this is my stop for really tasty "cheap" Chinese. Tried it coming home from the airport one night and even though we walked in near close the service was friendly and we were not given the bum's rush/"sorry we are about to close" sob story. We had three different dishes. one with sauce on the side and extra veggies (my daughter) and it was all quick and easy. Will return again and again...

This is a typical strip mall Chinese fast food restaurant. The service was quick and it was a good value. They could always be cleaner and friendlier.

We have made this place our go-to place for Chinese take out. The portions are large, the staff are nice, and your food always comes out within 15 minutes. I have enjoyed everything that I have ordered, especially their steamed dumplings. The skin on the dumplings are thicker than most, and they stuff them with a large dollop of meat filling. The side order of the dumplings is large enough to where I could just have that as a meal. A bit on the salty side, so make sure you have a large glass of ice water next to your meal when consuming. Not too salty, after all, Chinese take out is never too entirely healthy for you.

On my never-ending quest to eat Chinese Food from every location possible, I happened upon Chen's one night when I was trying to find a place I haven't eaten at before. They were pretty busy for late in the evening. I was excited to see some things on their menu that were a little out of the ordinary. I had sesame shrimp. It was good, but over sauced. The fried rice was not very good at all. The crab rangoon seemed fresh and handmade, but a little sweet. I'll go back, but I'll order differently next time.

I love this place! My family and I have been going here for 5+ years now and will continue to do so. They make your order fresh for you and the portions are so big I can save half for lunch the next day. My favorite is the beef with broccoli and I have never been disappointed. The staff is always friendly and I have never suffered a food mixup. They know what they are doing. I tell everyone about this place.

Great food at very good prices! We prefer to get Chen's take-out instead of going out to a restaurant a lot of the time. We have been going here for many years. Love their chicken or shrimp with garlic sauce! My husband loves the szechuan also. They make your order fresh for you and the portions are enough to feed 2 and still have some left. We always get quart size soups because I like to mix some hot & sour into my wonton soup. My husband loves the hot & sour alone and there is enough of everything left for lunch the next day. The staff is always friendly and they know what they are doing. Never have to wait...we call it in and pick-up and it is always perfect! We highly recommend Chen's for a quick lunch or for a delicious dinner take-out to bring home or take down the street to Shawnee Mission park for a picnic depending on the weather! We are moving out west to Washington in a few months and hope we can find a place as good as Chen's!

Definitely not our go to Chinese place... I think they are over priced for their quality of food.

If you're looking for a quick, greasy, classic Chinese spot with all the favorite Asian dishes, then this is your place! The staff was super friendly, and I walked away with a size able Chinese combo meal for $9 flat!

This is a small, simple place with a half dozen or so tables. Food is prepared when you order it and served screaming hot by the friendly staff, but on SOLO paper plates and in some cases (soup) right in a to-go container. They appear to do a lot of carry-out business. My crab rangoon had bits of what was more than likely Krab in it, but tasted like it had spent too much time in the freezer and was oddly sweet. The egg roll that came with my combo was ok, but it was another item from the freezer section. The Sesame Chicken was pretty good, all white meat chicken and tasted fresh but I really should have skipped the fried rice. It's just soy sauce and minuscule bits of egg. This place is all about the Chinese-American food and that's ok, sometimes I want that. It's certainly priced right at $7.50 for a dinner combo. If the crab rangoon had been fresher/better, I'd award a third star.

Great friendly, fast service. General Tso's extra spicy is my favorite dish. Pick-up orders take 10-15 minutes and it's always ready to go when I arrive.

Have lived down the road from this place since it opened but just not got around to trying it. Solid Chinese take out and reasonably priced. For 3 people we ordered 2 of the dinner specials which come with an entree, rice, 1 egg roll, 2 crab rangoon. We got the general's chicken and the chicken with garlic sauce. We also got an order of fried dumplings which were great. It was really enough food for 4 people! The people working there are so friendly too. We'll definitely be ordering from Chen's again!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
