Barb's is my favorite place for breakfast close to home. I bring my coffee and iPad and enjoy a few delicious kolache's. My fav is the Jalapeño Sausage & Cheese and the wife loves their cinnamon rolls. I also recommend her Bierocks and dinner rolls. If you are going to put in a large order of kolache's (more than 6) then I would highly recommend calling ahead (if possible a day ahead) to let Barb know. She is a small shop, so keep that in mind. Barb has also done a few cakes for us over the years and they have all been fantastic.

If you're wanting 2 for $1 cheap doughnuts this is not your place. If you want a super-tasty, homemade, fresh and delic not-so-sweet kolache, this is your place!! My grandmother was Czech and made these from scratch...this is as close as I've found in a restaurant setting. (We make them fresh at home.)

Barb is SOO sweet! Genuine and incredibly motherly, you can't help but want to go back to support a family owned business. I came in around 12:40pm and she immediately welcomed me when I asked her what she recommended. I wanted some meat! I'm not really a pastry kinda girl so I opted for the bacon and cheese rolls. The rolls were SO soft and she even took the time to warm them up for me! Apparently, pastries here are a hot commodity. Check out their website beforehand and if you call ahead, they'll save a specific flavor for you. I LOVE AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE! Super cheap too...one roll was $1.79, plus tax. Take note, they close at 1pm.

Amazing! This is a small business whose owner really works to provide great quality and superior service. Highly recommend anything in the store. The kolaches are great, but don't pass up the bierocs! You need to call ahead, because they sell quickly!

Kolaches are hard to find in KC which is why I was pretty excited to find out about Barb's. Kolaches are basically danishes, a sweet roll with a fruit or savory topping. The difference is a danish has icing and kolaches have a crumb topping. Barb's has nearly 20 varieties of kolaches ranging from chocolate to pineapple to strawberry cream cheese. I like fruit toppings the best so I go with those. The pineapple and raspberry, my two fave fruit flavors, are just wonderful. My wife likes the apricot ones. The fruit toppings are pretty obviously made from fresh fruit and have chunks of fruit in them. The crumb topping is a little lacking and is my only complaint about Barb's kolaches. My real complaint about Barb's is the location. It's way out west on Shawnee Mission Parkway where the churches are bigger and the Christians are zealous. I thought I might get forcefully baptized while I was out there. But it was worth it for the kolaches.

Barb's is a great place for a quick breakfast. We love the cinnamon rolls, but they sell out early. The kolaches aren't quite like my great aunt from Central Kansas makes, but they are probably the best in KC. Barb's offers a variety of other baked goods as well including melt aways, cookies, and cupcakes.
