I brought my five year old. Lots to choose from! I had grapefruit sorbet & hazelnut ice cream. My daughter had the celebration cake. Cute, comfy, local, affordable.

My husband and I went after Old Shawnee Days and I had 1 scoop of coconut in a waffle cone. It was ok, flavor was good. I'd rather had black cherry but 3 bins were empy in the case. I do understand it was probably busy since the fair was near by but at least remove the emptys or make extra for the extra business. My husband wanted a strawberry malt, they were out of strawberry, so my husband mixed it with vanilla...the malt power or whatever they put in it made it taste gritty. Looks cool and quaint inside but for the price of mediocre I don't think I will be returning.

I love Aunt Jean's! I am biased because I know the family who runs it, but I can guarantee gelato lovers will adore this place. Free tastes are the best, and you need to try some of the crazy flavors - for example, I've tried green tea and pickle flavored gelatos there. My favorite, though, is their classic: celebration cake.

A friend turned me on to this place because of their awesome gelato. For the same price (if not a little better) than the main chains in the area, you can get a terrific helping of gelato and support a local business. Love the options and can't wait to get back here to try another delectable treat (though it's hard to imagine something tasting better than the birthday cake flavor!)

Adorable little locally owned business of the type I'm always glad to support. Tiny, cut shop with a tiny, cute patio, loads of yummy flavors of gelato, friendly and sweet servers. Exactly the whimsical, relaxing atmosphere you want if you're out and about, seeking out sweet frozen goodness.

I've mentioned in a previous review I'm a gelato snob. I am. Aunt Jean's is a great gelato place that is very Mom and Pop's. It is small, cozy and you can call ahead to find out what flavors are available. You can also request a flavor several days in advance which is fun. You will not find their flavor combinations anywhere else. These people know their gelato. They worry when it's too hot outside you won't enjoy your gelato at the correct temperature. Celebration Cake and Chocolate Celebration Cake is phenomenal. It's unique and no one else can replicate it. Once you try it, you will be addicted. The green tea is really good even if you don't like green tea. Almond Joy is excellent as well. My favorite thing about Aunt Jean's is the freezer case full of flavors you can take home with you. Walk in, search the case of different sizes of pre-packaged gelato and see what flavor calls to you. Even though they have 18 selections freshly made in the gelato case to choose from, they are many other flavors in the freezer case you can purchase as well. These are flavors left over from previous days but still delicious. I give Aunt Jean's a 4 out of 5 for two reasons. One, their sorbet selection is limited to one. Everything else is milk-based. If you are lactose intolerant, you only have one choice of flavor. I am a sorbet fan and was always disappointed at my choice of one flavor. Two, because some of their flavors are hit and miss. Most are hits, but there are some misses. Sometimes you think something is going to taste great and it just doesn't. The flavors are created by the owners and employees also make suggestions - which makes Aunt Jean's so special. Make sure to try a sample before you purchase. And don't worry, they want you to love what you buy. They are proud of their gelato and they should be. Prices are lower than other Gelato places. If the street parking is full, you can park around back.

First time here. Was treating myself after a doctors appt. Ordered the cappuccino and blackberry - one scoop each with a couple of toppings. The blackberry was good. The cappuccino was terrible. The toppings were old, stale. Will never return.

I was disappointed when I took the kiddos I was babysitting for told me this wasn't ice cream but that it was "gelatoooo" which I've never had. But it was soooooo yummy. Plus the flavors were really fun. I think I got fruity pebbles and tried peanut butter chocolate.

I love this place. The ice cream is so yummy, the people are so nice, they have a nice patio to sit and eat and they gave my puppy her own dish of vanilla on the house.

I like Aunt Jean's and have never been disappointed with my purchase, although it can leave your pocketbook feeling a bit abused. I think the last time I got a pint to take home it was $9 or so. My fave so far has been Fruity Pebble. I give them an A for effort and enthusiasm, but a D on bang for your buck. I haven't been in for coffee, because I'm not a coffee drinker, but I think it was a good idea for them to try to offer some other products to help extend their hours. Friendly staff is eager to please.

I am going to say that this was the best mint chocolate gelato I have ever had in my meager 26 years on this planet. It was flavorful with shaved chocolate pieces instead of those stupid hard chips that get stuck in your teeth. The chocolate actually melted in my mouth and it was so good. They had a lot of different flavors including maple & bacon (oddly good), pineapple, watermelon sorbet, and pistachio to name a few that I wanted to try. I'm sure they change their flavors regularly so drop in once and come the next week and they'll have different stuff. I think this is a great idea to keep me coming back at least. Also, the shop is quaint with a little patio out front and the owners are very nice helpful people. All in all this is a great find of mine that I will be coming back to often.

Excellent service with kind owners and plenty if samples. All flavors made on site and are delicious. The coffee flavors and lime sorbet are incredible. A local family favorite. Aunt Jean also makes a mean vanilla latte!

I have been a HUGE fan of Aunt Jean's since they first opened. Yes I mean the REAL Aunt Jean and Cousin TIm! They are amazing people who really care about their product and their community. I promise you will not be disappointed. This is the best gelatto around for two reasons. The first reason is that they care and they use the BEST ingredients and they are not skimpy of the ingredients. I don't think Tim would be offended by me saying that he kind of "geeks out" on making sure his product is the best. I appreciate that. Second, you get a very generous portion. WIn WIn. Seriously, Downtown Shawnee all gained 10 pounds the first year they were open, but we have worked it off now and enjoy in moderation! We ADORE Aunt Jean's in Shawnee!

At some point in time, the people who ran the Fine Arts theater in Mission, KS lost their lease and were forced to move out. Their plan was to move into the old Aztec theater on Nieman and Johnson Drive in downtown Shawnee. This long-time Shawnee resident rejoiced for what seemed to be the overdue renaissance of Shawnee's downtown. But the reopening never happened. And every time I see the Fine Arts theater sign on the old Aztec theater I cry a little. I weep for Shawnee. Luckily, most times I am faced by the reminder of lost potential that is the Fine Arts theater sign, I am eating delicious gelato from Aunt Jean's. Aunt Jean's is an unlikely story, if you ask me. Shawnee residents are not exactly known for loving food that is in any way out of the norm. Chain restaurants sort of reign supreme in these parts, and not even the "hip" chain restaurants. My kingdom for a Chipotle in Shawnee. Or for loving ice cream, if you ask me. Seriously, I can't tell you the number of ice cream shops that have opened up and closed in Shawnee in my life-time. This could have to do with the fact that most Shawnee residents associate memories of ice cream with Zarda's, and that none of the ice cream options since its closing have ever been able to live up to that memory. I applaud the people of Aunt Jean's for opening up something east of Pflumm. Eastern Shawnee, although the place I grew up and a place I love with all of my heart, is a total wasteland. So many empty storefronts, so many broken dreams. Aunt Jean's gelato is just average. My mind has never been blown by anything they put out. But gelato is gelato, and even average gelato is really good. I love that they stick to a sort-of seasonal selection on their fruit offerings. By the way, their fruit flavors are my favorite. I love the peach, the blackberry, and the cantaloupe. And I love that I can get gelato without having to drive all the way out to Leawood or wherever gelato is hot right now. It's a small little shop, without a lot of seating. Last season they other food too for hungry Farmer's Market visitors. I think that they are closed on Tuesdays, but I am not one-hundred percent sure on that. You should stop by and enjoy some decent gelato. And then look next door at the new "loft" development where luxury lofts go for 300k+. Then it will be clear to you why Shawnee has always had a hard time jump starting its downtown. Shawnee, you're silly.

All I have had was hot chocolate but it was pretty darn good. I hear the gelato is where it's at.

Great, tiny little Ice Cream and Gelato place, within a block of the Shawnee Settlers park. It's hard to see coming from the west on Johnson. They have more than 10 flavors out every day, I tried two, they were both delicious, very creamy. The owner tells me that they have about 170 total that they cycle through. Seating: They have two seating options: Outside around a small maybe wrought iron table, or three or four tables inside. I definitely recommend you try it.

So, pioneering is a big word in this area but gelato pioneers? Yes, that's right, evidently this hardworking family has brought Euro-cool (literally) to a lovely corner of Shawnee-- and a summer night would not be complete without sitting on the companionable patio and spooning into any one of their remarkable, creative and delightful flavors-- we got addicted (really) to the sea-salt dark chocolate gelato and the sea-salt caramel gelato, but then there was the vanilla-berry... oh yeah and the chocolate hazelnut... and the fresh bright citrusy flavors-- although last week was unseasonably HOT and I'm sure Jean's struggled with keeping these delicate products cold-- the warm friendly welcome of the knowledgeable young staff, and the evident hard work of the owners, and the radiant friendliness and energy of Aunt Jean herself, all make for a uniquely local business that deserves support for good reason-- they make GREAT products from refreshing coffee drinks, cones, and that gelato, oh my.
