Big Mike's Cafe Americana is a family-owned restaurant located in an unassuming strip mall off of College Avenue on the far north side of Indianapolis. I wasn't sure what to expect for the interior of Big Mike's given its location in an older-looking strip mall, but I was pleasantly surprised upon entering. More importantly, my wife approved of their dine in atmosphere, and I have posted pictures of the inside and outside of Mike's at the bottom of this review in hopes that nobody else will have to live in fear of their spouse disapproving of the ambiance as I did. Our meal at Big Mike's Café Americana started with a couple beers - they have a small bottled beer selection as well as Coke products - and their garlic parmesan knots pictured above. I then decided to try a hand-tossed Team G pizza which consisted of Italian sausage, pepperoni, bacon, ham, and salami. Despite all of this glorious meat, my favorite thing about the pizza was their slightly sweet house marinara sauce. I also enjoyed the cheese as they put both mozzarella and provolone on all of their pizzas. Big Mike's Café also offers Chicago-style pizza that I would like to try, but I really liked the hand-tossed crust that managed to be cripsy on the bottom while still airy on the edges with what seemed to be some sort of butter brushed on it. The only negatives I can think of for Big Mike's are that they are not open for dinner on Sundays and Mondays and are only open until 8 pm on the other days, and that they only offer one large size of hand-tossed pizza. My wife tried the chicken sandwich leaving me with a lot of leftover pizza, but, thankfully, it reheated pretty well. She was pleased with her chicken sandwich, and I found their fries to be delicious when I snuck a couple of them from her plate. Overall, it is definitely worth trying the pizza at Big Mike's Café Americana, and you can click the menu link below to see everything else they serve.

This is a fairly new restaurant that opened near the Nora area of Indianapolis. Big Mike's opened in October 2010. I bought a Restaurant.com coupon to try this place and came here tonight with my friend who lives in the Nora area. We arrived at 6:00 p.m. and the place was fairly empty. However, we were welcomed warmly and told to sit where we wanted. Our server, Michelle, was very friendly and courteous. By time we left, the place had filled up nicely. My friend and I both ordered the beef medallions (mine medium rare, his medium) with mushroom risotto and a bowl of the cream of mushroom soup. I also ordered a Cabernet and my friend ordered a Bud Light. The food was excellent. The only negative was the credit card machine wasn't working and we had to wait about 15 minutes to get our tab settled...but it was all good. Big Mike, the owner, personally came over to greet us and ask us about our experience. Nice touch. I would not hesitate to return to Big Mike's...and they deliver - breakfast, lunch, and dinner! So, on a snowy, icy day, I might be tempted to have lunch delivered. Welcome to the neighborhood Big Mike's!

Went to Big Mike's last night and had the Chicago Style Pizza! I would highly recommend! Lots of delicious cheese and fillings and a great tasting sauce on top! Had a nice conversation with Big Mike and his sister. Great people, great food!

New place that recently opened. A friend of mine told me about the best meatballs sub he's ever had. I checked it out today and he's right. Yummy. Three huge meatballs covered in a rich marinara sauce and they don't hold back on the cheese. They have a diverse menu from a breakfast/lunch buffet, pasta and baked pasta, pizza, burgers, clubs, grilled cheese, and of course meatballs subs. Sign in window shows that they applied for an alcohol permit. I will be back to sample more of the menu.

The food is great and the owners are nice. I've been here twice and have been happy with the food I've eaten. Nothing in the place matches, and the booths are extremely narrow and hard to sit in. However our biggest problem with Big Mikes is their buffet... it's terrible. It has a good selection for a salad bar, with one kind of pasta and 1-2 soups. But it's so small there is only room for three pizzas. This last time we were there, this is what we had to choose from: Pepperoni & onion, Supreme and some sort of Veggie (there was onions on all of them). We were there for 45 minutes before they finally brought out a fourth pizza it was cheese. By this time, it was time to head back to work. The pizza is GREAT when you get a piece of something you don't mind eating. No one else was eating the pizza from the buffet. This should have been a red flag for the owners. The other time we went to Big Mikes there were maybe four other people eating. They again had a full pepperoni & onion pizza along with something else, I can't remember. So we asked if they would make a plain pepperoni and they said sure, but it took them nearly 30 mins to get one out. When you go to other pizza buffets they rotate pizza constantly. And you have a variety so unfortunately, Big Mike gets a big fat C from me in this department. Next time we go we will be just ordering a pizza and leaving. Like I said though, their pizza is really good. That's why I gave them a 3 out of 5. I would have loved to give them more though. You would not want to come here for lunch with a group of people for lunch and all get the buffet.

Went to Big Mikes 4/7/12. This is our third time. Usually,Mike is present and everything runs smoothly. We ordered Beef Manhatten, which we have ordered before. I think since Big Mike was not present, the staff tried to substitute Italian beef. Not Good!!!! Wont be back Mike unless you correct the problem. I was waiting for him to come ask me how the food was. It was clear the staff were left unsupervised or are cutting corners. I hope this is not the case cause this could mean death for Big Mikes.

Our table in the center of the room was apparently a black hole as we were completely forgotten about--15+ min. to take our order, 20+ min. to get our food, and had to order a side of toast 3 times...all while patrons who arrived after us finished their breakfasts. Decent food; good prices; very friendly service. Will give them a second chance for their Chicago pizza.

We found this place through a restaurant.com certificate. Husband had the BLT, daughter had a pesto melt (turkey/bacon/pesto) on wheat and I had a pizza. Everything was very good although my pizza was a little salty. Will definitely return again.

Friendly service, food was okay. I had the breakfast buffet where some things are ordered through the server, and some you could get it yourself. What stood out was the cinnamon rolls, although they're not fresh from the oven, I like how it's small, soft and the just right "sweetness" in it for me. My bf got the tenderloin sandwich "voted 5 stars by whatever connoiseur" and the fries were pretty good. As for the breaded tenderloin, it's crispy but I would love to have more flavor in it. Not bad of an experience overall but prolly won't be back due to 20+ mins away from my place.

Dinner: First time here. Had tenderloin on pretzel bun with fries. Good quality hand made tenderloin, but a bit too 'done' for my taste. Good flavor though. Great fries! Wife had chicken sandwich 'your way'. Looked good. Kids had Alfredo noodles, no complaints from them. Clean restaurant, friendly staff, pizza looked and smelled DELICIOUS! We will come back to try that!

Took my dad and sister there this past Saturday. Had a rest.com gift certificate to use. Overall I can't really say it was bad, because the food was okay, it just wasn't some place I think I would retry. The place for a Sat. evening was dead, no one but us. Sister had the philly stake sandwhich and said it was so so. I had the stuff chicken which was okay, slightly burned but not worth $14, dad went with shrimp pasta and again said it was okay but have had better. Service was okay but given she knew she was getting a good tip due to the coupon. Lemonade was kinda bland. Appatzier was probably best item...Overall just not that impressed....

I had a Groupon and usually enjoy giving new places a try. The Groupon said you must call for a reservation so I did. I was told 7:30 was the latest reservation so that was good about an hour from the time I called. Unbelievably when I arrived I saw they close @ 8?? Who can order and have dinner in 30 minutes and not be rushed?? To speed things up I asked what they recommend and it was the Chicago pizza. Sounded good, I was told it comes with cheese and you can add toppings. We placed he order but were told it takes 25 minutes to cook - closing time. Not good. We received our food as chairs are being put on the tables... Could they wait? the Pizza was ok, lots of seasoning on top maybe a bit much. My kids weren't even crazy about it and it is pizza. I received the bill and to my surprise they charged for every topping on top of a $21 pizza, making it a $30 pizza. Never again. I wasn't told the topping would all be extra, greatly over-priced. Wouldn't recommend, If the last reservation is 7:30, stay open till 9!!! ????

went there based on a review by uber tenederloin blogger...tenderloins all the time...or something like that... hmmm...I am not a huge tenderloin fan...and am certainly naive to subtleties of a good hoosier tenderloin...thus..I was not impressed..which may have more to do with my tenderignorance than the atual quality of the food. I don't like order at the counter and food is brought to your table..i like servers...especially if they are cute ! Fries were o.k...nothing to write home about...I hope this place makes it ! Probably won't go out of my way to eat here again...but most would find it a good value and the staff is very friendly

Great burgers for the price! Excellent service! It's a nice place to grab a quick bite. Nice and cozy setup. Big Mike serves personally and asks about food.
