Sam’s Gyros Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Recently remodeled (?) apparently Jordanian owned judging by the decor, with exceptionally catchy Arabic 120 BPM dance/house rounding out the ambience. Made me want to get up and dance although at lunch hour by myself it would be a little weird. Gyros are generously filled with an OK tzatziki sauce and served restaurant sit down style. I usually get a side of hummus which is presented VERY nicely and served with a generous amount of pita bread. It is an awful lot to eat for a lunch so just get the regular size and you should be fine. Usually around $12 with tip for lunch.

Terrible service. You don't get what you order. Go somewhere else. I didn't get what I ordered (spicy gyros) and they blamed it on me (it's spicy, just not spicy enough for YOU). But I've had the spicy there, and this wasn't it. He said that next time he will give me some cayenne pepper to put on it, but if I wanted to make it myself, I wouldn't spend $10 per gyro. What a joke. And what is worse is that this is my second time with the same problem.

I enjoyed this. I ordered the veggie gyro and I can't remember what it tasted like because I literally gobbled it down so fast... Oops. That's how you know it was good. Very nice inside and plenty of seating. Reasonable wait time and prices.

Ate lunch there today. Food was ok but the waitress look kind of angry and rude and she wasn't coming back to check on us.I'm not sure if the one in Kessler by same owner but I like it there better . They more friendly than this location.

Spicy Gyro was good, a bit on the greasy side, but good. Gyro had a nice spice to it, I would have liked more heat. I probably will check another place for my next gyro.

Stopped in today and had the lunch special. It was real good. The wife had a half gyro w/ hummus special add the veggies but never received the veggies. The atmosphere was nice when we got there but turned for the worst when a family came in with spoiled whining son and let him act up the entire time we were there. The service was pretty quick and the gentleman serving seemed pretty nice. All in all I give it a thumbs up.

My 19 Y/O daughter comes here sometimes with her friends so she recommended I try it with her. We went at about noon on a weekday. The place was about 2/3 full of customers. Took several minutes to be acknowledged by the server staff. I told my daughter, "one more minute and I'm walking out of here." I don't want to be mean, but let's just say the wait staff seems to be rather spaced out and inattentive. Ordered a couple of lamb gyros with cucumber sauce. Not bad. Lamb meat seasoned OK. My daughter thought they were having an "off" day with the cucumber sauce. Hummos. Not bad. Spanokapitas. OK. Meh. Over all, I was not particularly impressed. Will I return? Probably not. Yats is close by. I'll stick with that when I'm in the mood for something spicy.

Came here on a whim! We arrived to an empty place...probably not the hit place to go to on a friday evening for the younger folks but I've always enjoyed trying out new places and tasting new cuisines. I ordered the beef shawarma and really enjoyed it! It is my opinion that the quality and quantity of food was perfect for the price. Our server was helpful and friendly but he was not very observant of our needs and we had to ask him to refill our drinks despite the fact that there where no other guests. If your expecting a server that will wine and dine you, this place is probably not the place for you. Regardless, I would definitely come back to this place!

Great location, food, and service. Prices are reasonable given the portion sizes. We typically get the gyros sandwich (which can be ordered in half size or whole size) for an entree and the saganaki as an appetizer. They have traditional gyros and a "spicy gyros" option. No clue if the gyros is prepared on a spit, since the kitchen isn't visible from the dining area. I always order extra tzaziki sauce for my gyros, and have really acquired a taste for how Sam's prepares it with large, fresh cucumber chunks in it.

I'm 11 weeks pregnant and had a late night craving for some gyros. I came in after 8pm on a Sunday night. The open sign was off and it looked fairly dark inside, but I looked up the hours to make sure they were open before driving there. It said they're open until 9pm on Sundays, but they actually close at 8pm. I opened the door. They were kind enough to make my order, which was a small order of baba ghanouj and a whole order of spicy gyros. The food was delicious and the guys were very nice.

Food was delicious, decor was fantastic, and the staff was as helpful as they could be. Maybe it's because we didn't go during lunch time, but I didn't have a problem with the staff. I guess if you want a pleasant experience and good food, try dinner.

Very good felafel pita sandwich (with cucumber sauce). The somewhat high price, for a half or full sandwich, is what holds it back from being a 5 star, in my opinion.

The food here is average, making the weak service all the more difficult to overlook. Every time I've been in there, I've always felt like I'm interrupting something. It's a bizarre feeling. I've stood at the counter watching employees chat, I've had them look at me in awkward silence, and the last time I clearly interfered with a World Cup game. Though I tend to get cravings for gyros quite frequently, I find myself resisting the urge to stop. Then when I do, I wind up, after eating half, wondering why the craving was even there. Bad? No...just not great. I'd say the food is 3 stars but the service is 1. Sadly, the service should be the easiest part. This isn't rocket science.

I have been going to Sam's gyros for a while. Just when you think they couldn't get any better they did. Sam's on 96th is under new ownership! The newly renovated restaurant is more intimate and ideal for both small and large groups. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The food is delicious. I love the chicken shawirma and the spana! If you haven't tried sams yet your missing out on delicious Greek food!

Hummus is delicious. Bread served with hummus fresh, tender, and delicious. Lamb Gyro, fabulous as well as the homemade cucumber sauce. This is my 2nd visit in 2 months and both times food was excellent. Atmosphere nothing to write about since it is located in a typical small strip center. But who's looking for atmosphere when it is not fine dining you are looking for. The place is clean, easy to get to, and did I mention the good is wonderful. If you are a fan of the traditional Greek gyro, you will not be disappointed.

average gyro place with a decent menu. they have the standard fare ie. gyros, shawarma etc. The taste of the food is pretty acceptable. it does have a great tzatziki sauce and the pita bread is warm and well cooked. I would love this place and rate it higher if the meat marination was tastier. Once again one of the many options on 96th street to grab a quick bite if you work in that area or want to get something quick and cheap to eat that is not a chain. not a place you crave for, but not trying to avoid either

This place is phenomenal! Not only is their food amazing, but it's reasonably priced. I've only been here once, but I'll definitely be going back. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma with cucumber sauce. You're given the option of a half or a whole. A half is the perfect amount for me. My only complaint is there wasn't enough cucumber sauce. Don't get me wrong, they don't skimp out on the sauce by any means. It's just so darn good! I'll definitely be going back and asking for extra cucumber sauce.

Update: December 8, 2012. My wife and I ordered carryout earlier tonight around 6:00 pm and there was only one customer in the place. This is on a Saturday night, mind you. I noticed the lamb was down to the core when they carved our gyros. Our sandwiches were very dry and tasted like cardboard. No customers and awful gyros spells trouble.

The menu here is more varied and more oriented toward Middle Eastern food than King Gyros, the gyro place near home. I ordered the Sam's Plate to try several things--baba ganouj, taboulli, hummus, and falafel. I can't speak for the authenticity of the food, but I liked everything but the baba ganouj, which had an offputting, squishy texture. The restaurant is nicer in atmosphere than King Gyros as well, decorated and dimly-lit. There were only two other tables occupied, so the music was too loud and echoing off the walls. The Broad Ripple location is near my work; I'll try that one as well.

I am going to start this review by saying that I've been spoiled in the past. I used to live/work near Greektown in Chicago. That said, I went in to Sam's Gyro knowing that this is not Greektown and that I probably wouldn't find the best Mediterranean food in the world. While the food was less than stellar, my biggest complaint was the terrible service. Keep in mind that you order at the counter. The woman taking my order was very rude and very unfriendly. In all, the rude service tainted my whole experience.

The food is pretty good, and reasonably priced. If you go here during lunch though, be prepared to be greeted by the most unpleasant server you'll probably ever find. She doesn't even try to be friendly.

Same menu as the Shadeland Ave location. (See my review there for a recap of the menu.) I was impressed by the ambience, with the large carved wood camel statue, the textile wall hangings, and prints/art on the wall. The lighting seemed just right. Arabic music was playing in the background. I wouldn't call it romantic, but it was suitable for a casual date night, or a nice dinner with adults. There's a single unisex restroom in back. The kitchen is 1/2 open to the dining area, but it didn't seem out of place. It sort of added to the coziness. But walking past the various restaurant supplies and stuff to get to the restroom was the only negative to the ambience. If this were in a less classy area of town, I'd probably rate it higher. IE, I'm not being overly generous in my ratings, or going in with low expectations. I had the lamb kabob entree, at $14.95. Which included a small Greek salad, and commercially made pita halves. The pita was warmed, fresh, and soft, but tasted uninspiring. The salad was simple, just iceberg lettuce, feta cheese (maybe some tomatoes?), and a nice dressing. Unlimited-refill fountain soft drinks for $1.75, Turkish coffee for $1.95, bottled water $1.35. I _really_ liked the lamb. Almost all the pieces were perfect, and just two pieces had a little fat and/or gristle. So they (or at least this location) gets my approval that they can do more than just gyro meat and shawarma. The only seasonings on the tabletops were salt, pepper, and ketchup. Though the lamb meat was cooked perfectly, I thought it needed some seasoning. I should have asked for something but didn't. The lamb kabob was served over rice with green peppers and tomato chunks. I forget the name of the kind of rice they serve here. I've had it before at other middle-eastern/mediterranean places. It's not Basmati or what we're used to in North America as long-grain rice. I believe it's parboiled rice, which is firmer than regular white rice. The cute young North-American waitress was friendly and attentive.

Great service. Convenient location. Best Greek food I have had in Indiana. At a reasonable price.

I have lived in the Detroit area....for almost 10 years and Greek Town is the best! That being said I knew that this would probably not be as good, but I was excited when I pulled in to the plaza and saw Sam's Gyros. I agree the girl at the counter was a little unfriendly- she had no desire to make small talk. The place looked decent....but the food was less than good. I ordered two Gyros to go. The pita was awful....did not seem fresh. I'm used to having good pita, brushed with butter or olive oil and placed on the grill...this was right out of the package....cold and hard. The meat was the WORST I have ever had! It was so dry...I could hardly eat it. I also like red onions on my Gyro, they do not put them on like most places- tahini sauce was great, best I have ever had. I would not give them another try, we ordered two Gyros, and two fries, and our total was $22.00
