Amazing ambiance. And finally - soju :) Bulgogi was delicious! Can't wait to come back :D

Bulgogi was scrumptious! And the dol sot bi bim bop was lovely. We had a lot of questions that they were patient in explaining. Service was good. Highly recommend this quaint restaurant, but wish the prices were a bit lower. Oh well, I'm pretty sure if you like Asian food that you won't be disappointed.

I decided to try this place after reading the consistently positive Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. (Disclaimer: this was only the second time I have eaten in a Korean restaurant in the past decade. The first time I accidentally made my food so spicy that I cried -- so I wasn't quite sure what I was in for this time around.) I decided to order the dolsot bibimbop (shredded vegetables and beef in a hot pot over rice) because it came highly recommended by fellow Yelpers and it sounded delicious and simple. With the addition of several rounds of Sriracha, this meal was incredibly satisfying and I'm already thinking about when I can return and order it again! My three fellow diners ordered the dolsot bibimbop, the wang gal bi (korean bbq short ribs), and yukke jang (beef + vegetables in spicy beef broth, at the recommendation of the waiter). Our waiter even brought us a complimentary appetizer sampler of pickled/spicy vegetables and juicy watermelon for dessert. Everyone left satisfied!

I know you've seen this place before and you've just driven by "...oh, I'm not sure I'd like Korean food." Stop whining, park the car and get in here. Order some Korean pancakes as an appetizer and some bulgogi for an entree. You won't be sad, I promise.

In a word, outstanding. Food was piping hot and delicious. Everything tasted like it was made from fresh, quality ingredients. The service was very courteous, attentive, fast. My family ordered kimbop, bindaetuk, bulgogi, wang gal bi, and grilled chicken. I would recommend all of these items. The beef was tender and flavorful. Ditto for the chicken. We were asked how spicy we would like the chicken; we like a good amount of heat so we said medium spicy. It was just the right amount. We will definitely be coming back!

I love this place! whenever I'm in Fishers, I try to go. Branch out and try some of their soups or stews, you will not be disappointed!

Yes, this place really is that amazing. Excellent service, which includes three courses of complimentary veggie/egg pancake; cold sides of noodles, veggies, and some kind of pickled root vegetable; and after-dinner fruit. The fried dumplings were perfect. The Bibimbap was outstanding. This is worth the drive to Fishers from anywhere, we'll certainly be making it regularly.

Bi Bim Bop was amazing. Love the Korean pancakes. Short ribs were a winners too. A must stop if your in the area.

OMG OMG OMG!!! I freaking love the food here. Very authentic! The kalbi was awesome! Perfectly charred and caramelized. Takes me back home to my Dads cooking. And guess what it's in Indianapolis. WTF!!! I can't get good cooking like this in NYC... And by all the pictures I look like a pig but I was with my family

This place truly deserves 5 stars. Some of their menu items can be rarely seen at K-Town in LA. They have a very diverse menu which includes several appetizers, your traditional Korean BBQ, soup, tofu soup and mochis! Yum! The employees are wonderful. They were very friendly. They have Korean wine, beer and alcohol too. This place is definitely a must!

We arrived at Cafe Korea and were seated right away. We got our drinks and were immediately promoted for our order without really getting time to consult the menu. After that, it took some time for the waitress (there was only one, which was appropriate for only about 9-10 tables) to make her way back to place our order. Other than that, the service was great and the food was incredible. Flavorful and tasty, it was a great place to get some good Korean food. Definitely recommend it!

Nice and clean spot in a strip mall about 2 miles from my hotel. I had bookmarked this place due to the 4.5 stars, and my great affinity for Korean food. I made my way here knowing I just wanted take-out, because I didn't want to sit in a table all by my lonesome... I walk in and was immediately greeted by a young guy (maybe the owner's son?). There were only 2 other customers there, and I was worried... But then I realized it was near closing time. This cute little restaurant has a few tables and counter seating as well, which is good for future reference if I decide to dine solo here. And it doesn't have any table grills, so you don't come out smelling like KBBQ! They were playing K-Pop and the decor was modern. I'm assuming the lady at behind the counter was the Oma, she kind of made me feel like I was at one of my friend's houses. I gave her my order, which would take about 10 minutes and had a seat. While waiting, I was offered water and tea, which was nice, since most places don't offer anything at all when you're doing take out. I had so much meat since I'd been here that I ordered the grilled mackerel marinated in spicy miso paste. Miso? I thought that was Japanese?! And I also ordered the dumplings which came with tempura sauce, also Japanese? Anyway, they were very generous! My meal had the usual Korean banchan: bean sprouts, spinach, daikon and carrots, daikon kimchi, and cucumber, BUT they added pancake as well! The mackerel was slightly sweet and spicy and fishy, just the way I like it! The dumplings were also decent eats, too. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal and will make a stop here next time I'm craving Korean in Indy!

Wow. I went to lunch planning to pop into the Chinese buffet next door and decided to try Cafe Korea instead. Noticed the Yelp stickers on the door - good sign. Not knowing what to expect (and not consulting Yelp reviews beforehand, shame!), I meekly opened the door and walked in. Tastefully decorated and clean was my first impression - very nice smells coming from the kitchen. Probably 75% of the current patrons were Korean as well...never a bad sign at a Korean restaurant. Was seated in a couple of minutes. I have never had Korean food before, so ordered the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bop after reading some reviews waiting and the food was delivered to the table in about 20 minutes. A side dish of cold marinated vegetables (cucumber, bean sprouts, spinach (?)) was also provided and wasn't expected. Mixed the hot vegetables, beef, and rice with the hot sauce (as instructed by the server) and dove in. Terrific flavors, good heat, nice offset with the cold vegetables. Loved the stoneware as the rice starts to crisp a bit as it sits in the bowl giving some good texture. Small dish of fresh fruit to clean the palate at the end. What a meal for a Thursday lunch. I guess the part I liked the most about this was it felt like I was sitting at the kitchen table of my Mother's house. You just get that vibe here. The owner (I'm assuming) came to my table and asked how everything was and I couldn't heap enough praise on what I had just had. (She seemed impressed that I ate all the cold vegetables!) It may be partially due to the fact I've been in a lunch rut for a while now and this was such a refreshing change of pace. Or it could have been that it was a completely different flavor and food presentation that I've never had. Either way I really can't wait to go back and try something different. As others have mentioned, it is a bit slower but I didn't mind. What's the rush when you are enjoying a good meal in a nice atmosphere. With tip, $15. Will most definitely return.

Food was presented well, however portions were on the small side for dinner (especially when compared to how expensive they were). Would be more appetizing for lunch I think. Weren't as many items in the menu but sizable for a café. Each person got a small starter salad. Bulgogi beef wasn't cut as thin as imagined but very tasty and sweet. Bi bam bop (#18) was yummy but nothing that made it stand out. Very filling, the only portion worth it's money. Only 4 side dishes and all on the sweet side. Kimchi disappointed because not as spicy as expected. Would recommend to small groups with 5 yo+ children.

  • Neil C.

The service is good and the food is fantastic. Only down side is the price, which is pretty high in my opinion. Average price for an entree is around $15.

  • Adrienne G.

What a great little restaurant! Cafe Korea is tucked back in a strip mall near Allisonville and 116th. The space is very small and can fill up fast. We got lucky and arrived during a down time and were one of three tables. My husband and I had never had Korean food and were not sure what to expect. Our server was wonderful! He recommended dishes and explained what was being brought to the table. We ended up ordering the Bulgogi and the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap. Both entrees were fantastic. We saw many other things on the menu that we wanted to try so I know we will be back!

I have a bone to pick with you Yelp......how the hell, was I not made aware of this gem. Wow....this is the best Korean Restaurant I have been to in a very long time. This place does food right. They clearly have a chef back there that loves what they do because every attention to detail is captured in the food. Unfortunately this place suffers a bit from lack of design. It is a bit divey. I think this place used to be a Quiznos because they actually have some of the old Quiznos chairs with the red letters peeled off as chairs to sit in...lol. The setup of the counter and such looks like it is in the same place a Quiznos would have it. It is kinda funny if you just think about it and imagine the place before and after. Anyway...don't judge a place by the owner's lack of design skill. Come here for the food! Leave Happy! So excited to go back!

Pretty good, but pricy for the portion sizes. I really enjoyed the free appetizer, sides, and desserts!

  • Michael J.

Cafe Korea is the best Korean restaurant in central Indiana. The gal bi is just the best example of beef short ribs I've had. The pancake they serve with most meals is really tasty and makes the trip worthwhile. Prices on some items have gone up but not high enough to keep us away. Service can be kind of slow at times but you grow used to it. We'll keep returning. The food's just that good

  • Denise P.

One of the good asian food places around this area. The place is not too noisy and the lady owner was just adorable. The portions are big enough for a second meal. Don't forget the side dishes!

  • Erika S.

They have a huge variety of food, and everything I've every had there was great. The staff has always been very friendly and one time during a slow lunch hour, they even gave everyone int he restaurant a free seafood pancake.

  • Sandra Y.

had the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap, shredded vegetables and beef in a hot stoneware pot with rice and hot sauce. It was delish.

  • Eric J.

Friendly staff, descent price, and ok food. I was expecting more flavor. My Korean friend tells me this is Korean food for Americans. The short ribs were the best dish by far. Other are prepared and presented well, but lack flavor. Love the stone serving bowls though!

Very nice place. Definitely recommended if you're ever just North of Indy and in need of some "Seoul Food". Fast, friendly service. Very well decorated. Food was tasty and well-prepared. Really between a 3 and a 4 on this one. I took a detour from my usual dishes and ordered the dumpling soup, which was delicious. The boy chose his usual dish... Went with the 3 because of portion size on the bulgogi, and not having table top grills for cooking the bbq. We were there on a Saturday, so the usual "lunch" menu was not available, only the dinner menu. So, maybe the weekday lunch specials are a better bargain. That said, consider me a fan.

Super food. Very fresh and flavorful. This place is our go-to quick spot for a healthy, yummy dinner.

  • Bobby Y.

Lunch took over 2 hours. And no, we didn't have a ton to talk about. There was one waiter for the entire place, and service/execution was unacceptably slow. This one-waiter-for-the-entire-restaurant thing is typical of smaller Korean restaurants - some places manage to pull it off, but Cafe Korea fails miserably. Do not plan on a quick lunch. Bring an iPad, the Wall Street Journal, a library book, etc. It's hard to say how good the food really was, because after waiting 90 minutes for our food the 6 of us were starving and sure it tasted great but so would have a dried piece of poo by then.

  • Kristi J.

I agree with Ron R. This is as good as food gets in indiana. We drove from downtown Indy to have lunch here and it was worth the drive. Food was authentic and delicious! The service was prompt and our server was very helpful and gracious. The restaurant is in a strip mall... does that really matter? The restaurant is clean... cleaner than most. I can't wait to go back.

Stopped by last night for some dol sot bi bim bap. Excellent, as usual. The place was busy, but the service did not suffer. The waitress took the time to help me select some sake, which I wanted to try but don't know much about. A salad and several Korean side dishes came with the meal. This is a terrific little Mom and Pop that you should definitely try if you need a dose of Seoul food.

  • Jessica H.

The food is good and different from other korean restaurants. I just don't like the wait. Only one waitress works there and she's kind of slow and can't see well. The last time she didn't have time to clean the table for new customer, I have to help her clean the table to be seated

I've lived in Korea, and visited afterwards. The food here at Korea cafe is spot on. I had the mandu and Galbi, with a bottle of soju! Perfect flavored and I felt like I was in Korea again!

  • Harrison P.

Cafe Korea has a warm and friendly staff that is serving up some of the best food in all of Indianapolis. The menu options are authentic, tasty, and affordable. Don't let the strip mall location fool you, this is a very special place to enjoy a romantic evening, a wonderful dinner with family, or a simple lunch with friends. If you are not familiar with Korean food, I highly recommend starting your adventure with the Dol Sot Bibimbap.

Really disappoint with this place ! Food is just ok, but service is worse ! Came in at noon and sit for 15 minutes without any service. After that wait more 30 minutes for food. No water refill. No anything ! Have many better korean food option in indy ! Not this one

  • Justin O.

Solid 4 star place. Pricing is around 20 for the bulgogi and kalbe so a little high. Portions are a little smaller than most but it ends up being just right so it ends up being a very good feeling at the end (full but not regrettably so). Flavors are pretty authentic and the stone bowl was good and hot (resulting in nicely crispy rice). Lunch versions of the dishes are still lacking meat (even considering it is lunch prices). Bulgogi lunch is probably the best value for money. Just *barely* a $$ institution. Cost is pretty close to being under $11 most of the time.

This place is amazing! They have various food that you can try and I tried galbi and it was the best galbi I've ever had. The side dishes and salad were great so was the service. The food was presented nicely and I loved it. I'll definitely go back there :)

I think three stars is appropriate here. My wife and I lived in Korea for a year and eat at Korean restaurants regularly. We enjoy authentic food and first will say that this restaurant has very quality food. It is tasty and the staff was friendly. The sides were accurately all you can eat according to tradition. The selection was limited compared to authentic Korean restaurant sides. They did taste good. The food was tasty, we ordered bibimbap and tofu soup. The tofu soup delivered to our table contained seafood even though we ordered a beef tofu soup. I felt bad sending it back as it's such a large meal. That reminds me, the portions are hefty which is a plus. We could have shared a meal. The atmosphere was trendy, especially for a Korean restaurant. The prices were definitely high. Authentic Korean food is typically very affordable. This isn't a deal breaker though, like I said it's trendy and a convenient location. So factor that in. Typically, you have to travel to Korea town to get cheap authentic food. So, it's not completely authentic and a bit pricey, but trendy and convenient.

Cafe Korea was an excellent little Korean restaurant. It's tucked away in a strip mall on the NW corner of 116th and Allisonville. It might be small, but it has a lot of personality. I'll begin with the best part: the food. Everything I ate was delicious. I went with a couple friends who had been before. Apparently their banchan is always the same: Oi-sobagi, Sigeumchi-namul, Sukju Namul, Kkakdugi. We split an order of Kimbap for an appetizer. It was great! I ordered the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bop, which was amazing. They always give you some fruit at the end - this time it was some watermelon cubes. The restaurant has a great ambiance. It is obviously frequented mostly by the Korean community, but my table wasn't the only non-koreans in the restaurant. There is recent k-pop playing in the background, which I loved. There are a good number of TVs that they show sports on. This is not a restaurant to go to when you are looking to get in and get out quickly. There are very few servers - apparently either one or two. I went on a Saturday afternoon and the place was somewhat busy. When the tables were done, they weren't bussed even an hour later. I could not tell if this was normal because the restaurant has a mid-day break between 3-5pm or if it was just because that one server was too busy taking care of tables. Overall, my friends and I were there for two hours. The k-pop playlist is apparently only so long - we heard "Mr. Chu" by A-Pink at least 5 times (not complaining, I love that song). However, we did get service (seobiseu), which is free stuff basically, in the form of Pajeon (korean pancake). So that was nice, and delicious. Cafe Korea is not a place to go for a quick meal - this is a place to go for an experience and to socialize with your friends. I had a blast and will be returning.

Someone deleted my review, which is super lame because I am an honest and dedicated yelper. I have almost 50 reviews written, and I will not let this one get deleted because I gave it a 1 star. It is VERY well deserved, and I will make sure my honest opinion is heard. The food was pretty good, but the service...See below for original post I have been here for almost an hour at my table and I still don't have my drink. My waiter has totally forgotten about my table. Got salads "on the house" brought to us with no utensils. Utensils came about ten minutes later. It doesn't matter how good their food is. The service is horrendous. I will never come here again. So disappointed. Oh, just got one water out of five brought to our table. Maybe the rest will come by midnight.

I love their food and service. we went there during dinner time. The restaurant hosted only a couple tables beside us. We ordered spicy Korean spicy seafood stew and Bibimbap (Korean Spicy rice). Both were delicious and tasty. The price might seem to be high for a small place at first. After seeing the quality of food, it is very reasonable price.

"Alagamun-lan, we like, we we we like party, hey. I-I-I-I I'm a, mother father gentleman" - Psy (Gentleman) This K-pop they play in the background is catchy. Makes me want to get out of my chair and dance. Anywho... Friday late lunch hour, my family decided to stop in Cafe Korea. It was so quiet that I can hear a cricket chirp. Nevertheless, a really sweet server seated and gave us menus. I find it "cute" that she calls my mom "ma-mi" because we were out for mother/daughters outing. They both ordered dol sot bibimbap - where it comes in a hot stone pot to crisp up the rice. It's a buck more than the bibimbap, but totally worth it. I took a chance and had the spicy sauteed squid. Normally it's not something I would order because if squid isn't fresh, it's grotesquely smelly & fishy tasting. This one, I devoured the lovely tentacle suckers in this addictively sweet, spicy red pepper paste. Our meals came with a bowl of miso soup and banchan spread consisting of picked daikon cubes, cucumbers, spinach, and some bean sprouts. Every dish was fresh and delish, although, I would've liked to see more variations in the banchan. Perhaps a bit of kimchee, fried anchovy, or sweet & sour radish strands to switch up the salty flavors. The service here is two-thumbs up! The server must've checked on us three times throughout our meal just to make sure the food was fine and not too spicy. This is nice for a change compared to some other Korean restaurants in the area where the service is so crappy that I can't even find anyone to flag down to order or pay. All in all, a perfectly portioned lunch without being uncomfortably full. Cleanliness, incredible service, and delicious food will surely lure me back here.

We were traveling from CO to MA and were looking for a good place to eat that wasn't a chain restaurant. Cafe Korea was excellent! The waitress recommended that we share the Bi Bam Bap, and she was correct! It is a large portion, and delicious - we also had some other dishes that were appetizer sized, and the combination of plates was a great sensory experience. Yes, it is a small restaurant with one waitress, but if you want great Korean food, this is the place to come! The service was very good - attentive, informative and gracious.

I lived in Seoul for a couple years and really came to enjoy the food. This place is on point. The food is great. It's a little pricey compared to the prices in South Korea, but worth it. I always get the hot pot bi bim bap. ()

I love this place like I love my momma. I started tearing up as soon as we walked in.. just the sound of the Korean ladies laughing and talking about their day made me feel like I was back at my momma's house. Yes, I'm still very much homesick even after 2 and half years of living in Indy. I've tried my best to recreate my mom's cooking by either watching tons of "how to cook Korean food" on YouTube or long phone conversations with my mom ("MOM, just move here, I have a extra room!!") but it's never the same. Cafe Korea some VERY close to my mom's cooking and that just makes my heart full. The ajima (older married Korean woman) that took our order was so nice, very funny and always checked to make sure we were doing okay. She kept telling me that I wasn't feeding my fiancé enough because he is so skinny. That's definitely something my mom says to me all the time. :P Dillon ordered bulgogi and I ordered yu ke jang extra spicy (spicy beef soup). We also ordered mandu (dumplings on the menu)---even though I have bags full in my freezer there is nothing like freshly handmade mandu. Our meal came with panch'an (various side dishes like kimchi, sprouts, seasoned spinach) and also a Korean pancake (on the house!) that was made out of sweet potato, carrots and zucchini. We left with full, happy bellies and I was feeling a little less homesick. Tip: If you are an ice drinker, you should try the Korean ice tea. Has a rice flavor and is really refreshing.

I highly recommend this place. They have great authentic Korean food. The Ahjuma there is very nice & very attentive to customers. I've tried the Dol Sot Bim Bim Bap, Seafood Soondobu, (Spicy Tofu soup) All delicious dishes! Bulgoggi & Galbi was OK. It was a bit overpriced for the amount given in my opinion . But I will definitely go again...

This is a follow up to my 8/16/13 review. At that time we had lunch here on a Saturday, but the lunch specials {reduced price} are available only weekdays, so I returned during the week to try the lunch menu. My wife ordered the same thing she had last time, the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap which was again excellent. I was surprised that we still got the tray of garnishments...and soup for the lunch special reduced price. It appeared the to be the same size bowl not sure. The only difference was no salad with lunch. I tried the Beef Bulgogi this time. It was very good. Service again was excellent. We will return again, my wife will probably order the same thing...as she really likes it, I will experiment and try something different. My goal is to work my way thru the menu to broaden my knowledge of this ethnic food.

Great place. As an authentic Korean from Southern California, I give this place the thumbs up. It has modern decor and is super clean and well kept. The food is quite good too, with lots of banchan to sample. We got several varieties of kim chi, fried tofu, bean sprouts, and other side dishes. We were there during dinner and had the bulgogi (barbecue beef) and the dol sot bibimbap (fried rice in a hot stone pot). Both were excellent and seasoned well and appropriately. I only wish the portions were slightly larger, but other than that, this place is great. The service is prompt and friendly and the woman who waited on us (I think she might be the owner) was extremely helpful and nice.

Having lived in Seoul Korea for a few years, I often crave some Korean food. Been hitting up this place for awhile and everything I have tried had been good. Authentic Korean food being cooked by Koreans, can't beat that. Used to frequent another Korean spot, but I like this one much better. Reasonably priced as well.

Came in. 1/2 before closing. Treated like royalty. Had the beef soup. Came piping hot. So. Good. Not much beef though but with all the condiments, it didn't matter. Hubby had the #20, bi mi bop thing. Hubby doesn't like much but killed it. Spotlessly clean. Great service. Salad starter was a nice beginning. Wanted more. And that pancake we had was on point!!! Sooooo good.

Came here for the first time a few days ago, never having had Korean specifically. Waitresses were vary kind, atmosphere was good. Music was kpop, which is an amazing genre. Anyway. On to the food. I got chicken bulgogi and my mom got beef so we could try both, my dad got...some other thing with a fried egg on it. The meat of the bulgogis (correct pluralization?) was quite good. The beef was better. The meal came in a sort of compartmentalized box that had a lot of different vegetables, a mound of white rice that was much better than some I've had, and some very salty but good soy-ish sauce. All of it was good but overall I'm still giving it a three just because there were a lot of vegetables I didn't really want to eat much of and I want to try something different. Wish the lunch menu had a little more on it.

Saw great ratings so we were stoked. The service was honestly the worst I have ever experienced. Took 45 min to get 1 of 4 appetizers and put first drink. Didn't even come to our table for 20 min. The food is better than average, but man, I will never return if there is even a remote chance of getting the same service. Just kind of ruins the whole experience.

Cafe korea is one of the better korean restaurants in the area. been here a couple of times with coworkers and i can say that the lunch specials are worth the money. their kimchi is really good but price for dinner is a little bit on the pricey end for typical korean food with average restaurant ambiance. service is always very friendly and they have a few asian beers in bottles served in chilled glasses. definitely will return for office lunches but not so sure about dinner(only because of the cost). However, if you are craving some korean, its not a bad place to satisfy yourself.

I love when I walk into a restaurant and the aroma makes my mouth water. Walking into Cafe Korea did just that...and it wasn't just because it was lunchtime and I was hungry. This is a quaint and cozy place, able to seat maybe 60 guests total. It was clean, bright and the service I received was attentive but not overbearing at all. Definitely a locally owned, "mom and pop" restaurant, and I love it when they are well managed and offer fantastic food. I had the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap lunch special. It was delicious! Much better than even those I've had in SoCal where I'm originally from. I can't wait to try the other lunch and dinner offerings in the near future. Will become a regular at Cafe Korea, no doubt!

I am a fan! Living around the country in cities with a high Korean population, I wasn't expecting much when I walked into this joint, and I'm glad to say I'm blown away. 1) It's clearly a mom-and-pop joint, and I have an inkling to help local business succeed in my community. 2) It's in a strip mall, but it's definitely not a hole-in-the-wall. It's minimalist- inspired/designed. 3) The service is slow, so only come here when you have a leisure afternoon. 4) The food/flavours are great! My sister and I had the different versions of Bibimbap which is a signature Korean dish which translates to "mix rice" or rice with vegetables. My sister also commented that this is probably a great way for kids to eat veggies, as everything is incorp. and not an afterthought of veggies on the side. In all, I highly recommend here, if you're in the Indy area!

Good lunch place. The food is prepared for non-Koreans so none of spicy stuff. Very nice dishes/menus. Dinner price is a bit high, but on par with near by other Korean restaurants.

Wonder bi bim bop! Pickled sides were also wonderful. Fast and friendly service! All you can buy the pickled veggies to go!

Cafe Korea is the best restaurant in the north side of Indianapolis. It's one of the best Korean restaurants I have ever been to, including those in NYC and Chicago. My favorite entrees include Wan Gal Bi (#1) as well as Seafood Pancake, Grilled Chicken and Spicy Pork. Service can be a little slow, but that's b/c the entrees (especially Wan Gal Bi) take a long time to prepare. I've hosted many people at Cafe Korea and they all loved it!

No self service with the bbq here, which means you leave without smelling like charcoalled meat. Hefty prices, but worth it since there are about 3 Korean places within the greater Indy area, one of which is a grocery store and is not open for dinner.

So the only reason why I'm giving this place 4 stars it's because I've lived elsewhere - but this is by far the best authentic Korean food I've had in Indy. Forget e-Miracle, forget Mama's in Pendelton (I think that place is ok but way over priced and grimy). Cafe Korea makes ALL their own kimchi and sauces meaning NO MSG. Their restaurant is also very clean, modern, and bright. Recommendations: Dol Sot Bi Bimp Bap Korean Pancake (ask for Mozerella Cheese on top!) SoonDuBu (sour tofu soup)

Friend and I met for lunch today at Cafe Korea, having read great reviews on the Indianapolis Restaurant Scene blog. I had the beef bulgogi, friend had the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap (really hot bowl of shredded veggies, beef, rice and egg with hot sauce). Both lunch specials came with a tasty little mixed lettuce salad with ginger dressing. The bulgogi was served in a bento box with a potsticker, one slice of sushi, a few veggie tempuras and rice. And of course we had the little sides of kim chee, sprouts, spicy cucumbers and a green that might have been spinach. It was all very tasty, the people who work there were very gracious (I don't know who was the owner and who was a server, but both women were very helpful during a busy lunch rush.) I look forward to going back. Funny side note - the wind was blowing so hard, and their door is a little sticky - several people tried to open the door and couldn't, gave up and started to walk away. The owner and server would run out and open the door for them. So if you think the place is closed, pull harder!

Nice Oma and Opa place. Service was very friendly but a bit slow, since only one waitress, so don't show up when you are starving. The food was delicious and authentic. The portions were smaller than you might expect for Korean BBQ but I left satisfied and not stuffed which was perfect for me. Some downsides, some tasty options for the banchan (fried fish, smoked anchovies?) might have been better rather than the all-vegetables spread we got. Also, I had to ask for tea..,but otherwise, yummy food and family friendly place.

I've been here several times and went back this past week. Had the Korean Miso Soup and Chop Chae. Both were delicious and authentic. The food was fresh, the place was clean, and there didn't seem to be a surplus of MSG or salt like most of the other Korean restaurants. Mama's off Pendleton Pike has more side dishes and barbecue but Cafe Korea is better for a quick north side fix.

This was my first time eating Korean food, but it won't be my last. The food tasted fresh, the sprouts were 10 times larger than anything I've ever seen before (tastier too) and everything was exquisitely presented. The people were very friendly but professional. You could tell she took pride in the quality of the food in addition to how it was presented. It was delicious and we will definitely go back!!!

We stopped by here for lunch as part of our international lunch tour. We heard good things and boy they were right! The food is fresh, tasty and presented in a stimulating way. I started with the ginseng tea, it was nice, not overpowering - went well with the lunch. Dol Sol Bi bim bap came with the best miso soup I've ever had; lots of miso, small tofu chunks and green onion, perfectly seasoned. The entree came in a sizzling hot bowl, rice on the bottom - beef, veggies and egg on top. What an amazing and fresh array of flavors! Highly recommended. The side of kimchee was spicy and authentic. Happy ending; the meal included watermelon chunks for dessert - a perfect sweet ending. The decor is sparse but pleasing, the service was friendly - good at suggesting menu items if you ask, she stopped by a few times and was available if you needed her. We saw they had a nice beer and wine selection if you're in the mood for some drinks. We will be back - best Korean in the greater Indy area!

First time at Café Korea tonight and I would give it a thumbs up. The dinner entrees are a bit on the pricey side and some of the reviews do mention that the portion sizes are small but we are not big eaters in our household so with the miso, complimentary vegetable pancake, banchan, and fruit at the end along with our entrees it was more than enough food and we even took doggy bags home. The food was simple, delicious Korean cooking. If you are not familiar with this cuisine the flavors are mostly sweet/spicy. Nothing was unbearably spicy but I think if you want to scorch your insides you can ask to raise the heat because the server did say they can adjust the heat level on dishes. Speaking of service, she was very friendly and very helpful, making sure we understood the menu and even suggesting certain dishes. So again if you are unfamiliar, don't be afraid to ask questions. Our table ordered the tukbokki appetizer (rice cakes, fish cakes, and vegies in spicy sauce. Again pricey but it was so much food it may as well have been a third entrée), dol sot bi bim bop (can't go wrong with meat, vegies, and sizzling rice), and sea bass. I think we received the vegetable pancake comp because we told her it was our first time visiting, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it was delicious so thumbs up for the marketing because I will order it the next time I go. Will review more as I go back and try more dishes.

I was out here in business and thought it would be hilarious to see what kind of Korean food was available in Indy. It just so happened that the one that got the best reviews was a mile and half from my hotel - awesome! I have to say I wasn't expecting much - I love going to korean or sushi places in the midwest for comedy purposes because usually if you're not on the west or east coast it's crap. All of that said, this place is the real deal. I had the grilled mackerel and it was phenomenal. The banchan was great and the little pancake they brought out was cooked perfectly! (I like mine a little crunchy). Although the menu is not very large, what they have looks really good. I didn't realize until after I ordered that they had Salang Tang as a special (not on the menu) so it looks like they toss in some other stuff as well. Do yourself a favor Indy people and check it out!!!!

No canine on the menu...dammit ...but...excellent food....clean comfortable surroundings...superb, friendly, knowledgeable service...overall a great dining experience. Have only lunched....and I can't pretend to know "authentic" Korean..."authentic" a word bandied about dangerously...much like the Republicans with "Freedom".....yes...you should be free to lose your house...free to not be able to include your children on your health insurance....free to bomb the heck out of any country we wish...and I am a registered..but disgusted with the current crop....republican. Anyway...don't know if they use authentic anything...but its fresh...and delicious...and they are not timid with the spices ! Plus the hilarious "Seoul Food" neon light is reason enuf !

Food is actually quite good. I have no complains about that. Nice home-style food that's delicious. The price is a bit on higher side, but I'd understand if they have to charge bit more to stay open in NorthEast Indiananpolis. Service is pretty good too. The WORST problem with this place, is the speed. You'll have to wait minimum 30 minutes for all your food to arrive at your table. At one time, I almost waited an hour. This is COMPLETELY not acceptable, especially in Korean Restaurant (Where is the ppal-li ppal-li (quai quai lai lai, or quick quick now now) spirit that Korea is known for???) I got stuck there couple of times for my lunch, because the food took SOOOO LOOONNNGGGGG!!!!!!!! So, when I go to Cafe Korea, I actually CALL AHEAD to place my order on my way.

Just moved to Indy and this is the first Korean place we went. The lady who served us was awesome! I would go back just to talk to her! The food was good too. On top of the banchan she also brought us a vegetable pajon (pancake). When I told her I had an interest in Korean language, dramas and music she said things to me on Korean and told me the reply. She cracked me up saying I was a stalker because I know when Lee Jun Ki gets out of the army :D My husband got tofu steak with cheese, which I thought was gross, but he liked (I don't think tofu and cheese should go together). I got dol sot bi Bim bap with tofu instead of meat. All good!

The food is fresh and of high quality ingredients. The decor is played down and you do get the feeling that this is a locally owned shop. The price is a bit steep for dinner, but a good exchange for the quality of food.

Korean mother-approved! Every time my parents come to town, my mom wants to have Korean food, but she HATED Mama's on Pendleton Pike and I didn't know of any other places. Thank goodness for Yelp. I saw the good reviews and was still weary since my Korean parents can be pretty critical of restaurant food, especially if it claims to be Korean, but happy to say the food was excellent! It's a small place in a strip mall and my dad was worried it would be too "Americanized." They could use some more staff, since it looked like it was the hostess/owner, maybe a male relative and mom in the kitchen. The owner is very nice and apologized for the slow service since it was a busy Saturday evening. I thought the food more than made up for it. There are the many Korean staples--bulgogi, kalbi, bibimbop, and lots of spicy soups, little sides (banchon were small but spot on), but there were also some tasty surprises. The seafood pancake was a nice crunchy appetizer--yeah it has imitation crab meat in it, but it came out piping hot and sliced up like a pizza, since it was as big as one too. Kalbi was juicy and tender and cooked just right, with a little char, and served up atop a bed of smooth little hot rocks to keep the meat cooking (ingenious!). The sea bass was a large portion, also served on a bed of hot rocks, with a crunchy char around the edges and a sweet miso glaze. Cute little bundles of lightly pickled shredded veggies wrapped in a thin sheet of turnip and drizzled with a sweet sauce were made to look like little squid-shaped spring rolls and made for a refreshing palate cleanser. I wish this place were not so far away--my mom wants to go there again the next time she's in town. If you've never had Korean food, this is the real deal, but I wouldn't really recommend it if, like the guy sitting at the next table, you don't like rice...

They are lazy korean cooks. The spicy pork was a joke. Their Korean beef was bland. I felt they weren't the typical Korean Restaurant where they always make sure you are happy. They only filled my bachan when i asked. They only came to help us when i had i flag them down. The problem was we were the only people there. Food was made by a non Korean person. Even i cook better Korean food and i am not Korean. It was a disappointment.

We came in and was immediately greeted. Our waitress was very attentive and brought us a complimentary appetizer. The dumplings were to die for. We had spicy squid and beef tender in the clay bowls. We will definitely be back.

I so enjoyed my visit at Café Korea. The service was excellent, and the food was Superb. The Bipinbap with the crunchy rice was certainly the best I've had in a long time. The same goes for the kimchi - a Real treat. I highly recommend this place! I found myself in the same area a couple of days later; but, I was so disappointed to find that they closed between lunch hour and diner hours I can't wait to make the trek to Fishers from downtown soon for this jewel in the strip mall.

When was the last time I couldn't find a negative about a restaurant? Like never. Until now. Been in Indy 16+ years and gave up on Korean after a trip to a disgusting slime pit on Pendleton Pike years ago. Relegated to dreaming of authentic cuisine while eating generic kimchee from Saraga. Outing to CK three nights ago and was floored. Like tears of joy floored. Aberration? Maybe... but return trip last night equally impressive (tried two nights ago but realized, with hand on door ready to enter, that both wallet and purse were left at home...effin a). When was the last time I planned a return for dinner two nights in a row... and actually followed through? Like never. Waitress Jin fun and doesn't hesitate to help. Owner very nice and visited table side on second visit. Food wonderful. Mung bean pancakes, seafood pancakes, spicy squid, dumpling soup, dol sot bi bim bap, spicy tofu soup, freebie sides are all a must. Os beer ice cold. Only ding... Carpenters CD playing entire time Saturday night... weird. In my quest to find a real negative I'm do'in lunch there tomorrow!

I stopped in on a whim with my two boys, aged 5 and 3. When I told our waitress that we'd never had Korean food before, she was very helpful with finding things for us to try. We decided on a soup and the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap (?) and shared. What I didn't realize was this was going to turn into a 5 course meal! Our waitress brought a pancake appetizer to share, soup, salad, our main courses (we were almost too full to eat them at that point) and watermelon for dessert. She said she wanted us to love the food and come back. It was SO sweet of them to let us try all of these extra dishes - we will definitely be back!

This was such a delight! I was a bit skeptical when my friend, Terry Kirts, who is the food critic at Indianapolis Monthly, suggested we go here. I was like, well, I'll be a sport! To my surprise I loved it. It's not the best in atmosphere, but the food is really good. I had number 7 or 8 on the lunk list, the hot one, and it all comes in this cooked bowl with a fried egg on top, which again, seemed rather odd but it worked all together and was oh so yummy. It was just enough. The lunk menu is a bit more than your average place; mine was $10, so it's not a cheap dining out, but it's worth the money/try.

I have found a new favorite lunch spot!! I love the sign " Seoul Food" and that it is on many levels. I was in the mood for seafood so I ordered the spicy squid with vegetables. With that I received a salad with, it seemed, the same dressing from Kazan the Japanese steak house. It was very good. After the salad I was served a traditional miso soup a traditional kimchee and 3 non tradition small appetizers. All of which were exceptional. When I received my lunch special I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was more like octopus than squid. I love octopus! And I love spicy. I ordered it extra extra spicy. The heat was tasty and not overwhelming. Usually I order off the dinner menu because lunch special menus are usually small orders. Let me tell you this, I am feeling very full right now and all for $11. Food was great service was great I would definitely recommend and I will definitely be back to try more!! I hear the Korean pancakes are the bomb!!!!!

Great Korean food for the North side. Food is good and well prepared. Wait staff are friendly and always love to play with our kids and help keep them occupied. Dolsot Bibimbap is my favorite. Also, try their specials when they have them, they're usually excellent fusion dishes.

After reading a lot of reviews we chose Cafe Korea. We drove two hours to get there. The drive was well worth it. We were a party of 8 and we took home food. The food was absolutely wonderful and the service outstanding. Looking forward to our next trip to Indy and Cafe Korea!

The owner is so nice! My b/f and I have been here twice for lunch on a saturday. We don't ever order appetizers, but she (Korean lady in her early 40's ish) would always serve us her pancake appetizer on the house. Super nice of her. It's served hot and delicious. It's not because she had some laying around. She can always change the level of spicyness even when the menu says its really spicy. She checks back on you. Asks you if there is anything else you need. Service is quick. Food comes out quickly. Food tastes great. My b/f loves the seafood soup dish and I've tried a variety of the soup dishes too. Very good quality. Very authentic, b/c I can't even tell what some of the ingredients are. But they're good. I wish there was more selection on the menu though. The store is very small. They do have flat screen tv and bar area. There is no BBQ. And prices start around 10 bucks-15 for a lunch entree. It comes with the side dishes, unlimited. It all looks fresh! Definitely go try! I have not tried Mama's or Bando Restaurant before. I have tried E. Miracle which is down the street also on Allisonville. THey have BBQ.

To paraphrase Three Dog Night...I've never been to Korea, but I really like the food! Cafe Korea offers what I've been told a very authentic menu. This review is based solely on the lunch experience, because I only work near there but eat there about once a week. That being said, everything on the lunch menu is incredibly delicious and will fill you up without requiring a nap upon leaving. The lunch prices are also very reasonable (around $10 including tip). My personal favorite is the spicy pork box, but if you're in the mood for seafood, the sauteed squid or the grilled mackerel are both fantastic. Another great feature at lunch is that each menu item is accompanied by salad with ginger dressing, miso soup, and traditional Korean sides such as kimchi and bean sprouts. The woman who serves the food is always friendly and is very helpful if you're unsure about a certain dish. Overall, highly recommended for the Asian food seeker, and if lunch is any indication I'm sure dinner will not disappoint.

5 stars. Please read the rest - some might discount but I had a fun - and we live and learn. Sunday dinner - early - filled up while I was there. One waitress - small place but a bit of patience might be needed. She hustled. Friendly place - from the start. I ordered Fresh fish bowl - (hew dup bap) - she confirmed that I knew what that was - and I mentioned I was also considering the sauteed squid. It was her favorite - and I switched - raw fish dishes should be amazingly fresh - and the lack of endorsement concerned me. Both dishes are spicy - again confirmed - I like spicy foods. Next arrived a complimentary portion of the seafood pancake sans seafood but with a little cheese. I loved it - the real seafood pancake appetizer was explained to be the size of a medium pizza - and should be for 12.99 - I saw one later and can confirm - it would be a great table of 4 appetizer. I will gather friends and have the true seafood pancake soon. Dinner came with small ginger dressing lettuce salad - nice. Small Miso soup - also nice. And the usual Korean accompaniments - I am not an expert on those - seemed nice but you will need to judge. Oh the soup - the two soups on the tray destined for the next table were dropped on my table as I asked a question - I was alone and no damage done - all part of the fun for the evening. Then the squid arrived - a large portion of squid and some veggies in a spicy red sauce. My initial reaction was spicy but could use a little more kick - stupid me - cumulative heat is the best and this one built on itself and was splendid. Exactly what I was after. Plenty of tasty tender squid. And the veggies were properly cooked too. How does one man have such an experience. The food was really good - the Korean crowd that formed over time suggested that the food is authentic. A good number of options on the menu. I will return. And bring some friends. Now for the last item - I got the bill and it was higher than expected. They appear to charge for soda refills - I had several while enjoying the spicy food. Water next time. But in the end - I love interesting food and energy - this place has both and it is an independent. We need places like this. 5 stars - try it and then go back.

Five Stars and worth it! When I walked in, there were already two Korean families dining in the restaurant so I knew that was a really good sign! I ordered the dumplings as a starter, and the short ribs for my wife. The short ribs were awesome. They showed up on a sizzling hot plate, which was piled high with a layer of hot river stones which are then covered with the short ribs. The hot stones kept the marinated short ribs sizzling hot throughout the whole meal! The server was awesome...she recommended the spicy squid which was out of the this world good! I wouldn't let the server take the dish away because I kept drizzling the sauce on my rice since it was sooooo tasty! We also tried the vegetable pancake starter which was also delicious.
