First time here. Excellent food. Lunch special with gyro and chicken shawarma. Meat was very tasty and juicy. Hummus was also. Will be back for sure. Dinning room was clean but nothing exceptional. Definitely set up more for carry out. Well worth your visit.

Pros: food quality is good, shawarma beef was a little chewy cons: very small quantity of food, very cheap on rice, meat, and salad portion especially for the price you pay $11.99 for combo meal and $9 for chicken entree. Pita House on Roselle rd, is a better bang for the buck!! just as good taste wise and you get a heck of a lot more food for cheaper price! Suggestions: lower prices and increase quantity and you will get higher rating.

The worst Mediterranean food I ever had. Nothing taste like Mediterranean it's more like having Indian kababs. They should review their recipes.

Good service, friendly staff and the best middle eastern food in the area. I have been here multiple times and they are very consistent. Can't wait to go back! (Edited on: 8/23/14)

Pita BBQ formerly Pita Crave is my favorite middle eastern restaurant and for good reason. The food here is simply amazing and the owner is great. We always feel like we are royalty when we visit Pita BBQ. The owner cares about each customer and always takes a moment to ask about the family and really takes the time to make sure your satisfied and stuffed! The food is very authentic and very well done. The chef is a grill master and I can promise you if you order the Chicken Kabob plate you will not be disappointed. The chicken is butterflied, marinated and seared to perfection. It is served with perfectly cooked rice, and I always get pickled beats and onions. This is truly heaven for me. I drive over 25 minutes for this. I have tried the kabob, shwarma, falafel, babba, humma, baklava, lamb and everything has been dead on perfect. I mean if you think Pita Inn or Pita House is good, you will die when you try this food. I even put this before Rezas at 1/4 of the price. The details of this restaurant are what really make this place special. The garlicy hot sauce, the perfect condiments served with the babba, the pita served crisp and hot, the marinade and sear on the chicken, the crispiness of the fries my son orders, the huge smile the owner gives you when you walk in, the list goes on and on. If you haven't had the pleasure of eating here, you just don't know what you are missing.

Not that hard to forget, not impressed, rice taste a little like boxed rice a roni, chicken Taste like nothing .

I think they've hit their sweet spot with the combo and the vegetarian plate. There's shards of beef and chicken shawarma, koubideh, a thin slice of grilled chicken breast, 1 x falafel, a side salad, fluffy yellow rice. In the veggie plate, there's hummus, baba ghanouj, chickpeas, 3 x falafel, tabouleh, all kinds of goodness. For $20 you feed yourself for two meals, possibly 3 -- I eat big, so.

What a great place! Totally better than the other Mediterranean restaurants we've tried. For starters the atmosphere is lovely. We went in the evening and it was dimly lit with soft classical music playing. Food was very good and portions were plentiful. The owner was there and was helpful and friendly. Really enjoyed the complimentary hot tea as well.

Really good! Loved the falafel wrap. Prices are good and portions are large. The staff was friendly and nice. I will go there again!

The owner here was absolutely fabulous! He accommodated my picky children and even gave them a free treat to try out. The food was great too. Huge portions. Enough to bring home leftovers. Strongly recommend this place.

M new favorite Pita joint. The owner is very friendly and food is always good. I usually get the combination grill which is quite a bit of food which is flavorful and meats are moist. We have also catered from here and was a big hit for our party.

In 2007, I had shwarma for the first time in Delhi. It's taken me FIVE years to find the excellent flavors that I found there, in the States. This is truly some of the best shwarma I've ever had, and Mike is one of the most hospitable owners I've met around! You'll be looking a long time before finding another restaurant that can satisfy your stomach like this food can! The combo plate is the way to go if you haven't had Middle Eastern food before. It can easily serve two people with a moderate appetite.

The lunch special is a great deal. But if you get the steak kabob, they don't give enough steak! So not so worth it... The cilantro and lime chickpeas were awesome! The falafels were really good too. Steak kabob tastes ok, but not worth the price for such little servings. I do not think I'll be coming back.

Delicious food. I had the chili chicken platter and my wife had the falafel platter. Much more flavorful than some other Mediterranean places I've tried. We even got a free cup of lentil soup. I'll definitely go back.

This was my first time here. Excellent customer service from the Mohammed. He was extremely helpful. We just came for gyro sandwichs and ended up going with the lunch special with chicken kabob and gyros which was very tasty. We will definitely be coming back.

  • Caroline S.

Forget the gyros, chicken shawarma is their specialty! Really good, perfectly seasoned, slowly roasted, juicy meat. Really good hummus, great sides, and garlic sauce is the best! Owner is very friendly and courteous, knows good customer service. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about his staff...Got disappointed last time I ordered from there, I will have to find a new place now. Too bad, I really liked their food!

Delish!! My husband and I tried this place for the first time tonight. I had the vegetarian plate and he went with the shawarma. Great quality/flavor! Would go back for the falafel alone!!

This place is a hidden gem in the suburbs. My wife & I tried the chicken tandoori burger and chili chicken. I wanted something light yet flavorful thus the Tandoori chicken burger, it was the perfect alternative to a greasy burger. The special sauce was a pleasant surprise. Chicken was moist and there were just enough spices to give it a kick but not overbearing. I thought at the time this was probably the best tasting item on the menu, I was so wrong. I also tried the chili chicken, one word, "wow". "Chili chicken - Spicy chicken sauteed in red chili and onions with flat bread" that is the description from the menu. This is not something that you can eat while driving, it deserves its spot on the table, get ready with a fork and knife. At first look it seems innocent but after the first bite your tongue realizes it is has stumbled upon something extraordinary. I personally like my food saucy and this one hit the spot. I can go and on about the food here but no words can do it justice. Also this place offers complimentary hot mint tea. The owners of the restaurant were present and they were delightful as well as accommodating. Most shawarma places I have been to are so bland and lack personality, not this place, staff is friendly and restaurant is nice and clean. Pita BBQ I bow to your humble beginnings and wish you all the best. I really enjoyed my visit here and recommend it to all. PS - they serve Zabiha halal food so even better.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say this place is Pita Crave but with a new name and a more streamlined menu. I mean the falafels taste like the falafels I used to order from Pita Crave. Hmmm... I am glad this place "re-"opened. Falafels are one of the few things my toddler will eat so it's nice having a place nearby that makes good tasting ones. The menu is easy to read. First you pick what type of meal you want, then you pick your "Meat", and then you pick your toppings. They also have a few combination plates you can pick from and of course a list of sides. I've had the falafel wrap with hummus, cucumber tomatoes, and romaine lettuce before. Yum. Falafels were crisp but not dripping with oil and had a nice taste to them. Last time I came, I ordered the 6 piece falafel for my toddler and the mediterranean salad for myself. The salad was amazing. It had romaine lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, chickpeas, feta cheese, and fried pita chips. Yummy. But the house dressing is what made the salad. It's this creamy garlicky dressing that is so good. I even dipped a falafel in it and wow. Though there is one thing that confuses me. BBQ? Are those initials for the owner cause it definitely doesn't stand for barbeque.

This was our first time at Pita BBQ and we LOVED it! Friendly staff, excellent and delicious food! My hubby ordered the gyro sandwich with fries. He's a huge fan of gyros and gives it a 4.5 out of 5 stars!! I had the chicken shawarma plate with hummos and grilled peppers. The food was freshly cooked; meat was tender and well-marinated. Our order came out in a very timely manner as well. We enjoyed it so much, we can't wait to back!

We went there for a friend's bday. The atmosphere is very friendly and the hosts were very accommodating, reserving a table for 11 and even allowing us to put up a few decorations. They ask for your name when you place the order at the front counter, and after my meal the host actually remembered my name and asked me how my meal was. I ordered the steak kabob plate with hummus. The hummus was decent, nothing special but not bad at all. The steak was amazing! I had them cook it medium and they cooked it to perfection. I tried my friend's chili chicken and another friend's beef koubideh and both were very good but the steak kabob was definitely above and beyond anything I could have expected. I'm definitely going back soon.

  • Alan W.

Food is fresh and cooked to order. The workers and owner are very friendly. The kabob meat was juicy and not dried out. A little pricier than pita house but quality is better

  • Yav A.

Great Food!!! I ordered the Koubideh or koobideh plate. It was probably the best I've had in my life. I usually compare my koubideh to Rezas or Noon o Kabob and hands down Pita BBQ's koubideh was the best. It was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Kudos to the chef and owners. On my subsequent trips to Pita BBQ, I want to try the falafels, chicken shawarma, gyros and baklava.

Had several of their menu choices and loved it all except the rice. My wife really liked the rice though. I'm just not a rice kinda guy.

because this is the only mediterranean place around, I'll give it 3 stars. if there was a quality mediterranean place around like pita inn, this would easily drop to a 2 star. joints like these don't seem to last around here - probably because every place that tries just can't seem to get it right. this one falls in that same category. hummus was quite bland. didn't have the typical sour kick it should have, the boyfriend said it tasted like bananas..? lol. the chickpeas were much better. seasoning and spices on those bad boys were bomb. pitas were store bought and served to us cold...oops? not sure what meat I had, in fact I don't even remember how it tasted, guess it wasn't good. i would only go back if I was craving chickpeas, and only chickpeas. til then, I'll be making 45 minute trips to Skokie for pita inn.

I have been to Pita BBQ a few times now and I am a very big fan. Every time that I have been there I have been with my girlfriend and we have split the super combination. It comes with a beef koobideh kabob, grilled chicken, beef and chicken schwarma, falafel, seasoned basmati rice, a vegetable side of your choice, sauce of your choice and a few pitas. I think the schwarma is some of the best I've had, both the chicken and the beef, and the rice is awesome. The koobideh and grilled chicken are both very good, but the falafels really steal the dish. The second time we went, we got an extra three pieces. Next time i may just eat falafel and rice! They do also have steak and lamb kabobs which I would like to try too. One piece of advice to anyone going is that the food will take a good ten minutes usually and possibly a little longer if they are very busy, but it is worth it because everything here tastes extremely fresh and I'm certain almost everything is made to order. I do eat at a couple different pita places in the area and I like Pita BBQ the best. It may soon become the only one I frequent.

Great meal with a great host named Muhammad. My meal was a Koobideh Kabob platter, Hummos, Cucumber Tomatoes and a Spicy Chili sauce which instantly woke my taste buds with a mild fire to my tongue. One downside was poor Mobile Network communications. I free WIFI recommended to Muhammad for customers who need data communications while patronizing his fabulous restaurant.

Loved it! The owner serves 100% Halal Zabihah meat (Organic by all means) and it tastes amazingly good. We tried their lunch special and it was delicious. The environment is clean with a very fun and energetic surrounding. I would recommend their steak shawarma wrap. This place is kids friendly and before you leave be sure to grab a box of middle eastern dessert.

This place is amazing. The set up is similar to that of Chipotle, where the ordering process is made simple through a 3-step format. They have specials and dinner plates as would be expected, but you first start out by ordering a salad, wrap, or meat/rice combo. You then pick a meat, and top it off with as many free toppings as you'd like (feta, taboleuh, chickpeas, yadda yadda). The chicken is absolutely amazing, they have a crazy garlic sauce that rocked my socks off, and their falafel had a hint of pesto/chimchurri to it. I've had many chicken kabobs in my time and this place is the best so far. They are fast, delicious, healthy and cheap and they are open until 10. The owner explained that the restaurant is still owned by the same family, but basically "switched" from one family member's preferences to another. I hope to make this a regular stop for dinner on my way home from work. Next time you're thinking about Rosatis, consider trying this place instead.

A friend told us about this place & we decided to trot on over to Streamwood from Lake in the Hills to check it out...and BOY were we pleased. We both had the lunch special - chicken kabob, steak kabob, falafel, koobideh...it was all great...lots of flavor & texture. Even the hot sauce tasted really fresh & I will go back just for the falafel. I like having the choice of toppings...I got fried onions & green peppers & my husband got the baba ganoush. We left with smiles on our faces...and the staff was very pleasant and appreciative of our business.

Had to add.... Try the new shish kabob!!! Great steak and peppers and onions! This place only gets better.

Went to this place today to get some carryout. The food is good but for the price I expected more. I have to say this: Their air conditioner doesn't work! The guy working there gave me an excuse like the the temperature inside was better than it used to be, but honestly it was the same as outside: 90+F! Not a place you want to dine in and eat. If they are renting the place then they should demand the landlord fix it otherwise customers will have no reason to dine in. That kills survival as you should rely on both carryout AND dine-in for business. Perhaps the good part of this place is the food. I ordered the combination grill which came with various meats and basmati rice. Every meat included I liked, so no complaints there. The bad part is the quantity:price ratio. For $12 + tax (not including drink) I did get what looked like a full plate but wasn't as filling. Then again since this is Arabic food maybe that's all you get for the money. I'm just saying that I could've gotten filled up elsewhere. BUT what really disappointed me was the Vegetarian Grill. It costs $7+ tax and all I get for that are 3 measly sized falafels about as big as an Oreo cookie! Really!? Even though the taste is good I recommend you stay away from this item as it's super expensive for what you get :( It's a vegetarian item so the least they can do is make it much bigger or reduce the cost. It's more of an appetizer and by no means qualifies as a meal. What surprises me is that these items are clearly visible on their menu as separate entities and yet it cheats you out of your money in the end. So please stay away from these items and your wallet will thank you. They do have a $7 lunch thing which would be worth it as long as they match it with quantity. Again, the food is good but expensive. A place like this that looks like it's designed as a fast food joint shouldn't be charging these prices or at least make up for it with the quantity. For a final note, I don't think they're taking care of their beverage machine either as the Coke did not taste right. It needs a good clean in the nozzles AND the carbonator isn't mixing well with the drinks. All in all, place could be better if they fix the above. I wish owners would understand that if they spend the money now and do the fixes then they will create a lot of business. Rather they'd penny-pinch everything until they close down. Sad....

Since I loved it so much the first time, we decided to try the lunch special (who even has lunch specials on a Sunday!) For $6.50 we got our choice of two meats, rice, 1 falafel, one side, and sauces. It sounds like a lot more food than it was.. I think if they added a falafel or put a little more rice (or more than one dab of hummus as my side), it could have been a LOT better. But I guess for $6.50 you can't go wrong. It was still really tasty.... but I prefer the portions of Pita House.

Its a shame this place.doesn't get as much traffic as it deserves. Steak shawarma was amazing. Food was fresh and added sauces are zesty. Service was great and friendly. One of the best zabihah halal places. Only thing is bathroom was sorta dirty but that's about it. anyways, definetly will be coming back.

Great food and great service. Located in a strip mall, we were not sure how good the food will be so we just ordered a combination plate with rice and falafel on the side and two fries. We were happily surprised how good the food tasted! So we had to order 3 shawarmas to go for my mom and dad.

A friend and I was in Hoffman Estates for business, and decided to stop by here for a quick bite since it was not to far from where we were working. Really glad we came in. The place was nice and clean and inviting. The staff was very friendly, and gave us great advice about what to order. I had a beef shwarma sandwich, and my friend had the beef shwarma platter. The food was somewhat of a hybrid of desi-middle eastern, so you get the best of both worlds. The beef had really great flavor and was soft and tender. A lot of other shwarma places overcook or burn their meat, but this place had it right. I considered trying there hand cut fries to see how they were, but decided to not to since I had already ordered, and the guy working was very nice and gave me some sample fires to try anyway. Again, the staff is very friendly, and the food is very good. Will definitely eat here again when I'm back in this area.

Stopped by this gem of a restaurant after passing it for years. Stupid for not stopping much much sooner. Owner makes great suggestions, offers samples and treats you like a friend. Gives you a free soft drink with each to go order. My first experience with Mediterranean food. Steak shawarma and schirachi chicken combo is my favorite. Good pricing. It's a go back to place!

I was sad when I ate the last bite. I usually get the steak shawarma wrap (without cucumber), and today's wrap was so delicious, I had to tell someone. That someone was you, Yelp readers! Creamy sauce, crunchy onions (hello, after-lunch mints), and tender steak all folded up and tucked into a warm wrap, that is what I call delectable. Their gyros are good too, but their shawarmas are better. Tony Stark would be pleased to take the Avenger's here after a tough day saving the world.

  • Candi P.

Great flavor, and satisfying meals. I love the chicken that's angry red in a spicy sauce. I can't remember the name but it's great. All the meat I've tried is actually good, I stop in usually after working out at Xsport down the street for a wholesome meal. Heard they opened a branch in south Elgin, right by my niece's pre-school, I will definitely be stopping in!

  • Carlos T.

I would say going there for awhile, but lately the service and food is lacking. They were great at first, but I believe they have changed there menu way too much in a year. The server keeps messing up a simple order, the food, like the gyros, does not taste great at all. The meat, especially the gyros is inedible. I not sure if I will be going there. Time to find another spot.

I had the spicy Falafel sandwich. It was fantastic! My wife had the chicken swarma platter also good but not as good as my sandwich. We are definitely coming back. All you Buffalo Grover's you should try Firewood Kabob it is also delicious!

This place really serves up some great dishes, I got the vegetarian plate but the spices and the flavor makes want to order another to go... I was even offered a chicken swarma that I know will make my son a fan as well... I assumed that was the owner that I spoke to on the way out.. he knows what he's doing!!

Pita BBQ is my favorite local pita place (since there is no nearby Naf Naf. Actually, there are some things at Pita BBQ that I like better than Naf Naf, and vice versa). They have great options for vegetarians and vegans (I've never actually eaten meat here) and very reasonable lunch specials, and everything is delicious! For dinner, I love to get the vegetarian feast, which comes with falafel, hummus, cilantro chickpeas, baba ghanoush, tabbouleh and pita. I love to combine everything inside the pita and top with a bit of their delicious garlic sauce. The baba ghanoush is perfectly smoky and the falafel have a great crunchy texture. For lunch, they have a smaller option where you pick 3 veggie items with rice and pita for like $5.95! Now that it's cold out, they have complimentary hot mint tea and I finally got to try the lentil soup which was taunting me all summer from the menu board (they only serve it in fall/winter). The soup is yummy and really filling! One thing to keep in mind: we have had a couple of mistakes with our orders here, which they are always happy to correct, but if you get food to go you probably want to check it before you leave. I'm kind of craving a vegetarian feast now...

They have great Middle Eastern food here. I have visited this restaurant on numerous occasions. The food has always been on par and extremely fresh. With that being said it does take some time to prepare larger orders for patrons. It is fresh food fast and not fast food. This is a go to for me when seeking healthier food options in the Streamwood area. The only suggestion I have for management is that they extend their hours for late night eats. This would be especially great on weekends.

Fast food Mediterranean food? Nope! Quick and Hearty Mediterranean food? Yes! Atmosphere: Honestly, there isn't much to write home about when it comes to interior decorating. This isn't a date place, but an eat and go place. However the friendly staff do add some charm to the place and the areas are well maintained. Service: Pretty standard service at the counter. The staff is friendly enough and will joke around with you here and there. I was given the rundown of all the different meats by a friendly staff member. They are glad to help out so don't be shy to ask. They also didn't mind our group of rowdy men... Food: Everything is made with fresh and organic ingredients. You see them make everything on the grill and none of it is premade. They also do not skimp out on portions. I personally love the best of both worlds and grab a half and half order of the Chilli Chicken and the Chicken Kabobs. Juicy and Tender with the flavorful spices make it one hearty meal. You can definitely taste how fresh the chicken is and I beg you to at least try it with the sauce! It blends really well together. But... My favorite thing at Mediterranean places tend to be the Pita Bread and the Hummos. It did not disappoint, but it wasn't the most impressive either. The Hummos is slightly too oily or creamy, and the Pita Bread isn't as fresh in comparison to how fresh the rest of the meal is. This is probably the closest Mediterranean establishment with high quality food in my area. Meaning I will definitely be back for those Hummos cravings. I would recommend this place if you are with a group and are looking to just hang out casually. The food will hit the spot and leave you satisfied.

Big fan of Pita BBQ. I highly recommend the beef shawarma sandwich and ordering it spicy. The ingredients are fresh and the pitas appear to be made fresh daily. The staff is very friendly and the food comes out pretty fast.

Fantastic food. My husband and I have been twice and tried something different each time. The spicy chicken wrap has incredible flavor...and a little kick! The chicken Schwarma wrap was juicy and enveloped in a magical mix of veggies, sauce and a soft warm pita. I had them add basmati rice which was a great choice (request it for free). We also had some baba ghanoush which was served with warm pita (or pita chips) and it was fantastic. Then there was the spicy fries - spicy indeed and yummy. We will definitely be back to this neighborhood gem.

Starving!! I was convinced that I was starving and started to drive northbound on Route 59 from Bartlett. I couldn't even think of something that sounded good until I thought of Pita House....wait, I know this review is for Pita BBQ but you'll understand why I mention this in a moment. See, I really should belong to a support group for people who love Pita House. I have realized that I have a problem...that's the first step right? Anyhow, I was going to drive to Schaumburg when I realized that Pita BBQ was moments away and I'd never tried it before. That was all about to change. I pulled in the parking lot and wandered inside. The owner greeted me warmly and finished helping the gentleman in line before me. Once it was my turn, I realized that this was very similar in style to my beloved PH. The owner talked me through the menu and I quickly decided to get a combination plate to go. (My hubby was very happy to split dinner with me!) The wait wasn't too bad. I took the time to enjoy the clean space and the friendly staff. I was hoping to grab a carryout menu, but they were all out. Once I got our food home, I couldn't help but compare everything to PH. My hubby did the same. Here's what we decided... Pita bread: Pita BBQ wins. The pitas were fresh and served warm. Plus, the owner threw in an extra at no charge. Rice: It's a draw. Pita BBQ has a fine rice which has a nice flavor and kept me coming back for more. PH has a different texture and style of grain. Both are yummy. Chicken: Pita BBQ wins this one. There were two types of chicken in the combo. Both were seasoned really well and juicy! Kefta Kabob (or something very similar): PH takes this one. Pita BBQ had a long ground beef item that looked like Kefta kabob. I think they call it something else though. I didn't love the seasoning unfortunately. Hummus: PH gets this one too. The owner was kind enough to swap salad for hummus. But, I didn't love it. I didn't eat more than a couple bites before I decided to skip it. :-( I was disappointed. So, in summary, Pita BBQ has some really tasty options and I am happy they are close to home. I think some things are just a matter of unique preference and I will gladly visit them again for their quality food.

Delicious food! I pass this place on the way home from my dads and have always wondered about it. My husband, son and I stopped last night and were pleasantly surprised. Their spicy chicken wrap was DELICIOUS!! We also got the hummus and baba ganoush which was fantastic too. My one year old son couldn't stop eating the hummus :)

Picked up lunch for the family on a Friday afternoon. The place was packed, but the food was ready when I got there. Got the gyros, tandoori chicken burger, and the chicken kabob sandwich. The gyros was not a typical gyros. The meat was cut too thick, wasn't flavorful, and overall not tasty. The kabob wasn't ground chicken, but just diced chicken that was just ok. The best thing we got was the chicken tandoori burger. It was moist and flavorful. The people there were a bit rude. I was completely ignored when I walked in and stood by the cash register for a few minutes before I had to get someone's attention. Not sure I'll be back.

Pita BBQ engages my appetite in the sort of way that is usually reserved for pies and cakes. Should you give Pita BBQ a try? Are you kidding?!? Absolutely!! I've been eating at Pita BBQ fairly regularly for over a month now, and, because I usually try several items before writing these reviews, I've tried most of the menu. This has not been a chore in any way. Here are my thoughts: 1. The Spicy Chili Chicken Wrap/ platter is maybe my favorite chicken dish. Not just here. Anywhere. Seriously. If not, it's in my top 3. It is also definitive proof that if you like spicy food, your life is clearly better than someone who can't handle the heat. This dish is similar to an Indian dish, Chicken Makhani. On the wrap, it's served on a warm, buttery flatbread. I recommend asking for a little rice to absorb some of the sauce (it's very saucy. and the rice comes at no additional charge). Also, arm yourself with a fork. You may have to eat the wrap down a little. It is really, really stuffed with delicious chicken. If you try nothing else, try this because: holy cow. 2. The Tandoori Chicken Burger is chicken burger perfection. And in the pantheon of burgers available in Chicagoland, you've got to give it a shot. It's delicious. It does take a little longer to make though, so be aware. 3. The gyros are excellent. I once ate a whole one even though I was full halfway though. This was a mistake, but it was fantastic and I was full the rest of the day. 4. The steak in the Steak Schwarma tastes like steak. Not rubber or discount roast beef. Grilled steak. 5. All of the schwarmas are great. And the wrap includes hummus. And the schwarma pita wraps are way less messy than most pita places. They are also (I think) larger than Chipotle burritos. 6. Food comes up pretty quickly. Quickly enough and regularly enough that I am really tempted to go back and dock all of the other pita places I have reviewed a star for speed of service. 7. The people who work at Pita BBQ are so incredibly pleasant. They love what they're making, and they clearly take pride in their work. I love that. 8. Like most pita restaurants, the dining area could use some work. In general, the way the restaurant is set up is kind of odd, and I'm not sure what they could do to fix it. When you walk in the door, you're pretty much standing in the pick-up area. You have to walk to the back of the restaurant to order. If it's not busy, it's not a big deal, but if it is, it can be a little annoying. The tables in the dining room are mostly all set up like long bench/family style arrangements which is unusual and sometimes, again, it's inconvenient if you're trying to get by a crowd at the door. The tables themselves are also kind of lightweight/flimsy so it's inadvisable to lean on them too much. While the restaurant as a whole is certainly clean, you can also tell that the floors probably need to be stripped and waxed. It's also a little dark in there around lunchtime, since most of the light in the place comes through the windows. So although it's not what I'd call an ideal first date restaurant because of the dining atmosphere, it's definitely well worth your time, hence, 5 stars. This is hands down my favorite pita place in the area, surpassing even the fabled Sultan's Market in downtown Chicago and Naf Naf in Naperville, in terms of both flavor and service. If you haven't already, please join me in helping to make the people at this location as rich as possible in return for Spicy Chili Chicken Wraps. Thank you.

First, let me say I am the pickiest eater around. I don't try new things and I eat American food. My husband on the other hand will try anything. He dragged me, kicking and screaming to Pita BBQ. And I have to say, it was freaking AWESOME. He got the spicy chili chicken plate. It's spicy for sure, but in that really great way, when your lips are on fire but you can still taste every layer of flavor. I got the chicken tandoori burger. I've never had anything like it. Ground chicken patty on a really great bun, with tandoori spices and a tandoori sauce. Spicy, but not overly so. As good as any top shelf burger I've ever had. As the whitest white girl you'll ever meet, trust me when I say this place is great. Don't be scared, you will not be disappointed.

Oh what I have been missing!!!! Everything here is prepared fresh and from scratch and you can tell! If you have been hesitant to try shawarma or falafel, hesitate no more and head to Pita BBQ. The staff is friendly and helpful. We had the falafel plate (comes with 2 sides, lettuce and cucumber salad) and shawarma sandwich. Very generous portions with lots of leftovers.

Great food every time. I love adding the rice to the wrap. Try the falafel wrap it won't dissapoint.

Damn, that was good! After disappointing meal after disappointing meal at my local favorite Mediterranean joint, Pita House, Christie B. suggested I make the drive over to Pita BBQ. As always, she never leads me wrong. After years of subjecting my taste buds to sub-standard Mediterranean fast food, I'd forgotten how much better the real thing tastes. I've taken the flavors I experienced while living in the city for granted but have thankfully rediscovered them here at Pita BBQ. Everything we tasted in the Combo Meal and Hummus that we ordered just bursted with layers of flavor and none of the meat was dry! At first I gawked at the hefty $12 price tag of the Combo Meal but I figured I would give it a try since I made the trip. Hoping it would be enough for two, I ordered a large hummus just in case. The Combo Meal was definitely enough for two especially if another pita is ordered. It's a regular sized plate piled with meat and rice from edge to edge. The shawarma is not the solid block processed style either. I'm talkin' individual chunks of meat slid on to a spit so that when they cut pieces off nice chunks of meat fall off instead of shaving of mystery processed meat. That's the way it's supposed to be. Even the tabule was fresh and flavorful. In fact, everything had so much flavor that I found myself using a lot less sauce than I do at Pita House. The only complain I have is that the pitas didn't seem very fresh. A few pieces were rock hard and none of them were fluffy at all. We may have just gotten a bad batch judging by the quality of the rest of the food. They have lunch specials here that are a few dollars more than Pita House but I think the quality is more than worth it. Now if I could only get them to move to Schaumburg...

The vegetarian feast was good. The falafels little overcooked. The tahini sauce, I was a little disappointed, I think they mixed it with mayonaise. Otherwise, I will try the chicken burger next time.

I am so glad that we tried Pita BBQ. Pita BBQ isn't necessarily close to us but it is definitely worth the trip. Dare I say it, but I think I like Pita BBQ more than the other Pita place. When we walked in we were greeted right away. Once we were ready to order we had a few questions about options and everything was answered and explained to us. I ended up ordering chicken shawarma (which I never had before) with cucumber/tomato salad and garlic and dill sauce. My bf ordered a steak (medium) kabob plate. Both plates came with pitas as well as jasmine rice. We dined in and our food was ready fairly quickly. At Pita BBQ you are given a choice of a side (you receive rice already) as well as 2 sauces. My chicken was really tender and flavorful, almost tasted like a bit of cinnamon was added. The steak was great, tasted like a great cut of meat as it wasn't fatty or super chewy. Lots of tables to dine in as well. It was around $30 for 2 plates and 2 drinks.

Amazing food . The best Mediterranean food . I had chili chicken wrap and my fiancé had falafel wrap . And both entrées were very tasty. I can't wait to go back and try their tandoori chicken burger .

I have to say, this place used to be amazing for take out. I noticed they have made many changes to the menu in the last year and went a little "cheap" on us consumers. I believe they have changed the rice and are now using a lower quality as from before along with removing very tasty items :-( bring back your Old menu!!!! Ps do not use the bathroom here!!

  • Ryan C.

Falafel was so good and made to order. Order it spicy! Fresh hummus was outstanding and served with fresh and hot pita bread. I ordered the falafel wrap, which was a good size and easy to eat. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Saw them on chicagos best a few weeks ago so I gps it went to try it out. Hard to find if not a local.i had a full take out meal with beef pita bread rice and hummus for 8.50 before tax.they prepare the beef and chicken on a open pit.it was a very good meal. The hummus was creamy not so thick wich I like. One warring the prices are higher than on the web sight. 4 stars will be back.

Definitely a great place where you can get your money's worth. I have gone to a LOT of middle eastern restaurants throughout my lifetime and this is definitely one of the best places I have been too. The selection is excellent and I like the fusion with the basmati rice and the tandoori chicken burger they have. My personal favorite is the 2 meat meal with gyros and chicken breast with hot sauce and garlic sauce. The staff is also very kind and friendly as well. Check this place out....you're not going to regret it. The place is also very clean which is a huge plus and it the meal is always prepared quickly and hot. The best part is the price. I have never paid more than $10 for a full meal which also comes with pita bread and sides of either hummus, salad and filafil.

  • None N.

I can't say enough! I got the steak shawarma and my fiancé got the spicy chili chicken and both were amazing. This is my new favorite place for sure. I love the atmosphere and the food is great! Not bad on pricing for the large portions they give!

We used to live about 2 miles from here, and over the last 9 years we have seen some name changes and ownership changes. When we last visited this place, about a month ago, I was amazed by the changes. It was always one of our favorites, but with a little tweaking of their recipes, this place went from good to amazing. Their falafel is to die for! Hummus, all the meat selections, the salads- all wonderful. Unfortunately, we now leave about 10 miles away, otherwise we would be there once a week! Also, the staff is super friendly. Hope they keep up the good work!

I've been wanting to go to one of those pita restaurants for quite a few time now, so today was that day that I finally came to one and this one was the Pita BBQ. I came here with my parents after work and decided to try something we haven't tried. The menu offered a quite variety of combos. My dad ordered the spicy chicken wrap, my mom the beef shawarma and for me, I had the chicken shawarma. Everything was delicious from the first bite to the last one.

I had driven past Pita BBQ several times and always contemplated what it was about. I somehow struggled to understand how pita bread and bbq were related. I envisioned ribs and barbecue chicken in a pita bun - guess I took the restaurant name literally. Either way, it deterred me from stopping in. Once I realized they served up some phenomenal Mediterranean dishes, I knew it was worth a shot. The menu offers guests the choices of their favorite dishes - chicken and beef schawarma, kabobs, falafel, gyro, baba ghannouj, and beef koobideh kabob. The bf and I decided to split a combination plate and a few extra falafels, which was more than enough to feed two people. The meats were moist, tender, and full of flavor. The falafel were pillowy and perfectly seasoned. The saffron rice was rich with flavor. And the cucumber-dill was to die for. Pita BBQ claims they use only fresh and organic ingredients, and that nothing is frozen and always pre-made. I wouldn't doubt that based on my experience. The service was great. The staff was friendly and helpful, and willing to go the extra step to make customers happy. I will say the wait to get the food itself wasn't super speedy - but I won't complain when I'm getting fresh and hot food. Don't let the name of Pita BBQ deter you into thinking it's something it's not. Stop in and chow down!

Wonderful food and great service! I highly recommend this restaurant. The Koobideh Kabob's are the best! I had the skinny pita with everything today and it was delicious. Their hummus is also great! We love this place and will continue to go as often as we can.

A great variation from the usual "burger and fries" joints, I'm very happy to have this place right by my house. I'm used to having to drive all the way out to Wow! Eqyptian Fast Food (who I do think has a better menu, but is a haul for me) for my Middle Eastern food cravings, so Pita BBQ makes me pretty happy on that alone. The food was delicious and ready quick enough to make this a good "grab a bite" place without having to settle for reheated, stale food (think Panera as far as wait time goes). Prices are fair, service was excellent, and we'll definitely be back. Maybe tonight...

Surprisingly good food. I didn't think I could find this kind of quality food out in the burbs. Definitely will be coming back when I get my shawarma crave. Garlic sauce was also very good. Owner was very nice and chatty.

Rivaling a well known pita establishment in the Wheeling area, Pita BBQ offers delicious Mediterranean food at affordable prices. The owners are very friendly, and I appreciate how they have evolved their menu over the years. If it is your first time eating at Pita BBQ, then I would recommend the Chicken Shawarma, Chili Chicken, and Gyros pitas for lunch or the full plate variants for dinner. Do not forget to order a side of hummus and baklava for dessert!

The food is amazing and I am a frequent member. But they should require drug testing when hiring because the service here is always slow and their eyes glassy. They also always mess up my order!! Hire some employees with brains!!

If you want a great change from burgers, etc, then try this place. I've eaten here twice now and it's going to be on my list of regular places for a while. As good as the steak and chicken shawrama is, I tried the chili chicken tonight and it was incredibly good. Not only was my portion huge, but it was incredible. The chicken was tender and the chili sauce and onion were perfect with it. I did the feta and olives on the side....some of the best feta I've had. The garlic sauce is wonderful too. Tried the lentil soup too. VERY good and lots in the serving. They did forget to make my wife's veggie feast, so she had to wait five minutes while the rest of us dug in, but that's not much of a minus. I'll be back for sure.

  • WOJCIECH P.

Love it!!! Spicy chili chicken is to die for, hot but not too hot to kill the taste. Falafel was good too, crunchy outside and soft inside. My wife ordered chicken shawarma and she was very happy with it, loved the texture and spices. Hummus was very fresh and smooth, the only complaint I have is pita quality, it's the same you can buy at any jewel or mejier store. Definitely will be back, still have to check their second location in Elgin.

  • Leni M.

Beware - it's not southern BBQ.... But it sure does taste just as good! First time here and the hubs and I both had the spicy chili chicken plates. Seriously, this was a fantastic choice. Very flavorful and it was hot, which we love! The plates were crammed full with meat, rice and pitas. My side choice was hummus and he had some salad thing. We both agreed to add this place to the rotation.

Great authentic Persian/Mediterranean food. The best deal are the wraps. The toppings are unique and delicious and the wrap bread is great. Try the koobideh kabob wrap. The people are very nice as well. Family owned and operated too. The one time they messed up my order (forgot a topping) they made up for it by slipping a free side of hummus in my bag!

  • Asim A.

This place was recommended by a friend. Their Shawarmas are awesome !! It's not the processed meat that other places serve, it's the real deal. Real meat cooked right in front of you. The saffron rice is wonderful, I believe they use a good quality Jasmin rice. I had the Beef and Chicken kabobs.. they were well marinated and you get very generous portions. The meat was moist and cooked perfectly. The best part was the sauces, I got two sauces with my meal.. Tahini and Garlic.. both of them were superb !! The staff was very nice and friendly .. and do their best to help you.

What a great find my dad and I made today! :) Pita BBQ was delicious. I don't really know how BBQ figured, but oh well. My dad really enjoyed his hummus and pita. I snuck some and loved the hummus - the olive oil especially was delicious. My shwarma wrap was also good, though it fell apart a bit (I used a fork and knife, though I probably could have pressed on otherwise). The chicken shwarma was not as thinly sliced as usual, but it was juicier than most chicken shwarma is! The sauces were delicious, and I love the options they give you for meat, toppings, and such. Decently clean bathrooms too, as well as a very clean dining area!

Love this place! The combination plate is great because you get get a taste of everything. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious! I used to live in elgin and it was close by and now that I've moved 25 mins away its def worth the drive to get something different.

  • Ajay S.

This place has been around for a while, but when I went in on a Saturday night it was pretty empty. I'm guessing they do more takeout, then dine in. The menu is simple, but has some mix of indian/middle eastern food. We took the food as take out and the owner was kind enough to offer me a drink as I waited. I found this really nice. The food I tried was pretty good and my wife life it a lot. I thought it was ok, I had a wrap, and chicken swarma type dinner. This was pretty usual fare.

  • Jonathan E.

I had the gyro wrap, baba ghannouj, and spicy fries. The gyro wrap was decent. It was a nice portion and tastes like any other gyro. It is like a Chicago style hot dog, given that everyone gets them same ingredients, you can only screw it up. I do have to say that the pita was dry. I enjoyed the baba ghannouj. I would say it is the best I have had. The smokiness was amazing. The spicy fries were okay. It lacked seasoning and was soggy from the spicy sauce. I would rather order plain fries and just get the spicy sauce on the side. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They were knowledgable and answered my questions with care. They even checked in with my party to see how we were doing. I will return to explore the rest of the menu, but I am not enthused to eat there. While taking in the decor, I noticed that one of the ceiling diffusers had caked on dust. There were also quite a few tables that needed to be cleaned. Those two things and the mustiness of the restroom earns Pita BBQ a couple demerits. It makes you question what else is not being maintained.

Have been trying all menu items. Everything is full of flavor and complexity. Staff is courteous and friendly. Although facility is more for carry-out, layout and ambience is comfortable for dining in. Pleasant addition to Streamwood/ and NW rte, 59/ sutton rd. corridor

We just moved to the Streamwood area and I am in love with this place! Te chicken tandoori burger is just absolutely delicious!! I had one for lunch and am thinking about having a other for dinner . I've never been inside because my husbands always just pick it up so I don't know what the fine in experience is like or anything but this is definitely my most favorite place for sandwiches right now.

This guys offer airline miles for food. I was impressed by the quality of their food. It looks like its owned by a couple of young kids. They work really hard at creating a great meal. It still has that independent edge. The food was delicious and the portions were just right. I came for the miles but ill return for the lunch special.

Horrible experience. I got the combination platter the beef was burnt, oily and cold. The chicken was ice cold with little favor. The side salad had no favor. Then I notice I didn't get my falafel. I had to go back to the counter asking what happened to my falafel. The owner/cook explained the falafel wasn't cooking well in the fryer. If I didn't ask abt the falafel he would pretended it didn't come with the meal. Owner cannot cook or understand customer service.

  • Avi J.

Excellent restaurant. Both owners are extremely nice and very welcoming. Wondering who the chef is, a pure gourmet! I pass my regards to him or her, their taste is amazing! The portions are huge, more than enough for one person. And the way the owners talk, feels like you're eating at home but with a freshly cooked, and flavorful Mediterranean taste! I wish they could serve beer, other than that cannot wait to be back!

This place is 15 minutes away from my work but I'll probably be back. I got the pick two meats lunch special. The chicken shawarma had a little bit more curry taste than I thought it would but it was still delicious. Their falafel was delicious as well. It was fast and courteous. The people working there are very kind as well.

This is a decent place. We tried chilli chicken plate and chicken shawarma wrap. Chilli chicken came with rice and hummus. Rice and hummus were really good, chicken was OK. Shawarma wrap was good. I will definitely come back again if I am around this place.

Great food. Good value. Favorites: Combination plate with chicken shawarma and koobideh kebab. Hummus is very good, fresh tasting. I also LOVE the chicken tandoori sandwich. Falafel...what's not to like? Happy to hear Pita BBQ is opening a new location in Elgin. Best of luck!

So grateful for a quick, affordable and GOOD Middle Eastern offering in this area. The menu is like that of Chipotle where you choose the form (salad, dinner, pita etc), then your meats (chicken or beef schwarma, kebab etc), toppings (hummus, tabouli, peppers etc). Food is cooked on the spot so it's nice, fresh and hot! And the customer service is top notch.

  • Tanya M.

I was introduced to this place by a friend, and I am SO glad that I was! The pitas are FILLED with meat, and veggies, and the taste is impeccable. I like to get extra sauces because they are so yummy. I've eaten inside, and had carry out, and with both I have gotten quick and friendly service. Nothing like a local authentic Mediterranean restaurant to liven up the day-to-day local eateries.

Loved the food here. Used to go here all the time! My favorites were the falafel wraps and gyros. Then one day I got REALLY sick after eating a gyro sandwich. I'm so sad this happened because the food is yummy! But no food is worth icky grumbles in my tummy :(

Stopped in for a quick bite the other day. It's a nice place with a real chill atmosphere. Good food and cool jazz playing in the background. Plenty to choose from on their menu. I had a traditional gyros and a side of jasmine rice. Both were tasty and filling. They have some non-meat options for those so inclined. Everything seems freshly made and healthy.

Naf Naf what! Quality meats with great taste can be had here. You can see them grilling/cutting up the meat right out front as proof that they have nothing to hide. Service could be a little better or maybe it's just bad luck for me. Hummus was excellent as well. I would highly recommend placing your order ahead of time as a tip as well as checking your order before leaving.

  • Cathy B.

The best chili chicken! I love this place! The portions are right on target. The chili chicken comes with a side, sauce, saffron rice, and pita. With tax, under $10.00. A great lunch or dinner option. Check this place out!

  • James S.

Excellent food and service, been coming here since it was called Grill 59, way before the Pita Crave. I remember getting disappointed when they closed down for remodeling at the fact that I had to spend my lunches somewhere else. Yet now they reopened as the Pita BBQ, and once again I come and fill myself with good food and for about the same price you'll pay at any fast food restaurant. Now with new and improved variations of their previous dishes, I think it's even better than before. Everything from the chicken shawarma to falafel to their steak fries is prepared to liking, and always end up leaving with an empty plate and full stomach when I come here.

  • Steve S.

We had a craving for Falafel, and I thought the only place around was like 10 miles away, so I checked on Yelp! and lookey there.... Here is a place right in Streamwood !! They have a pretty decent place, nice staff, and my Falafel was tasty !! We will most likely be return customers (Now that I know where they are at !)

  • Topaz A.

Good value for the price - lots of food for under $10. You could seriously feed 2 people with the lunch special plate. I had the chicken shwarma which was ok but very fatty and lots of dark meat some of which was partially raw. I had to pick through it to take off the fatty parts and ended up eating only about half of the chicken. The beef kabobs were good, not too dry. You get falafel too which was very fresh and some rice and vegetables. The pita was a little dry and possibly day old. I like that they make the food as you order it, except for the shwarma that is cooking all day. I believe it is a chain and there are better Middle Eastern places in the Chicago area, just not near this location which was convenient for me.

  • Ashley R.

Wonderful food! I ordered Chicken Shawarma on a skinny pita - delicious! My husband ordered Koobideh, also on a skinny pita, which he also really enjoyed. The pitas were soft and the meal tasted very fresh and flavorful. The staff was extremely friendly and very welcoming. The price was great too - $6 for each of our pitas. If you're looking for a "hole in the wall" type restaurant with great food and a friendly staff, then go to Pita BBQ now!

  • Susan M.

It is definitely worth seeking this place out. The food is well seasoned and fresh tasting. The people are friendly and clearly proud of their product. Check your order before you leave, though. Sometimes an extra Pita or sauce has been left out. On the other hand, they've been very generous with the samples and quick to make the order right. It's always a delicious experience.

  • Rose D.

We visit this Pita BBQ regularly since it's close to home, both to dine in and for take out. But we've always ordered the chicken shawarma or gyros and hadn't explored beyond that. That is until I read Andrew J's review and we took his suggestions of trying the Spicy Chili Chicken Wrap & the Tandoori Chicken Burger. Both were very good, especially the Spicy Chili Chicken Wrap (definitely ask for some rice in it to absorb the sauce, and it's spicy but not really hot/heat-spicy, at least not to us). So glad we gave those items a try! The food is generally ready after a short wait and the service has improved from years ago when they first opened. Their platters comes with a lot of food, too so unless you have a huge appetite or are famished you might have leftovers from a platter as well (or sometimes the Hubs & I just share a platter). And their basmati rice is cooked perfectly!

Wow. Just wow. This place is out of this world good. Ordered the chilli chicken sandwich and it was probably one of the best chicken sandwiches that I have eaten. Meat was super tender and it actually had a lot of kick to it. Ordered the spicy fries and the seasoning was fantastic. Food is definitely spicy without being too spicy that it ruins it, if that makes sense. Guys working behind the counter were super cool. One of the best halal meals I've had in the Chicagoland area.

I previously had a good experience there in 2013. I didn't have a good food experience there recently. I have noticed that most restaurants in the burbs are not able to handle orders during slow times. They may have fresher food ready for lunch or after rush hour ( dinner) My rice was cold and stale, my chicken was cold dry, burned and stale and everything came out of metal containers under the counter, I saw nothing being warmed or prepared. Even my Pita was cold and dry. It was empty inside the restaurant.

Explosion of flavor in their tandoori chicken (sandwich) and spicy chicken plate. The spicy chicken had just the right amount of spice which was just perfect. It's cooked like a stew or some sort. Definitely need the salad and hummus to break up the taste. The plate came with 2 sides. The burger did not come with any sides. My friend has had the chicken shawarma from here and he said it wasn't that great so I'm very happy with my orders =). My only gripe (since I'm the worlds biggest complainer) is that the service could've been faster. There was only 1 person taking the order, cooking, and serving. Oh well. Enjoy!

Delicious 2 meat plate for lunch with complimentary baklava! So much food, perfect enough to save for another meal...if you can.

I would like to give this place four stars and I will certainly be visiting again, eager to up my rating. There were just a few things that didn't fit to par with a 4 star review. So, in all fairness 3 for now. I grew up in Montreal and am used some pretty yummy Mediterranean food. (big juicy not over cooked shawarma, tasty salad with a house dressing, garlic potatoes, tasty rice pilaf style and a delicious thick and fluffy garlic sauce. The hunt for a replica of this sauce continues!) After reading the reviews I was really optimistic, but Pita House BBQ fell a bit short of my expectations. I ordered the chicken shawarma plate, which was tasty but the chicken was over cooked. We ordered lentil soup because my daughter loves it, but unfortunately it's only sold seasonally. We ordered her some falafel and fries instead, but they didn't have fries... We got the falafel, but they were burnt to a crisp on the outside. :( We would have asked for another order but we overheard them complaining about a problem with the oil, so we didn't bother. Our toddler happily ate the inside of the falafel and had some rice, but they ran out of spoons, so she had to make do with a plastic fork. She can use forks at home but the plastic disposable kind tend to be on the sharper/pointier side so we had to keep an extra eye out on her. They did give us a complimentary chocolate covered baklava. Which was a pleasant surprise and it was quite good. The food was overall pretty tasty and the rice and chicken mixed with their garlic and hot sauce was really, really good! The workers were very friendly and apologetic about the lacking spoons. It was just a bad night. Looking forward to my next visit and my next review.

It was yummy. We had the combo plate and everything was excellent. I can't wait to go back. Mason, the young man who works there, is an excellent employee. Very helpful and friendly.

Great value for the money! I've been wanting to try this place for a while and it is on the way home from my husbands job. I ever so sweetly ask him to please stop and bring home some dinner from here We ordered the- Chili chicken Combination plate Both with rice and cabbage slaw Spicy fries All was fantastic. I easily got three meals out of my combination plate. The chicken chili plate wasn't spicy at all though. Spicy fries however, had a great spice to them. My only complaint is that the employees were not well versed in what was gluten free or not. Saying ' well I don't know if it is gluten free' Having eaten shawarma before, I felt like that was a safe bet. I didn't get a celiac attack, so I was safe.

This place has been beckoning me like a siren's song for the last year and a half & somehow I've been able to resist, until today, that is. Our family was jonesing for some delicious food & so we decided to give Pita BBQ a shot. Now, for those, like me, who had visions of some sort of Middle Eastern/St. Louis BBQ pit hybrid, sorry to disappoint, but that is definitely not what this place is (I guess I'll have to just leave the BBQ falafel & lamb brisket where they belong, in my dreams). Pita BBQ offers delicious Mediterranean fare such as shawarma, Lebanese salad, and falafel. My hungrier half and I each got ours plate style. He opted for the chicken shawarma with hummus & basamati rice while I got the falafel with Lebanese salad and hummus. Our little got the best of both worlds & just helped himself to our plates. 2 entree plates & a couple of fountain drinks set us back about $22, which isn't too shabby. The Falafel Plate: The falafel was delicious. It was super crispy on the outside and creamy soft in the middle. The flavor was great & made even better with a little tahini & red sauce. The hummus was decent, nothing to write home about (but that didn't keep my son from devouring pretty much the whole thing along with the fluffiest pita I've ever seen). It was sprinkled with a little paprika(?) for good measure, which gave it an extra boost. The Lebanese salad was delicious, super fresh and flavorful, sort of like a lightly pickled, citrusy tomato/cucumber parsley party in your mouth. I had to fight my son over bites of this. The Chicken Shawarma Plate: The chicken was perfectly cooked. I was a little confused that it came cut up into bite sized pieces. Personally I would have preferred nice hearty chunks, but chicken is chicken, right? The basmati rice was super plain. I wish that it had more seasoning, but if safron-ed yellow rice is your thing, then dive right in. My hungrier half gobbled his plate up like it was his last meal, if that tells you anything about how everything tasted. I'm looking forward to trying out some other items on the menu. Although there were only 2 other families in there when we dined, I'm glad we didn't take that as an indication of the quality of food. While it's not the absolute best Mid-Eastern food I've ever sunk my teeth into, Pita BBQ and I will most certainly meet again sooner rather than later.

Sadly, I'm in the minority here and wasn't too impressed. Perhaps it was the fact that I have been starting work at 6:45 a.m. all week, battling a nasty bug since last Friday, and had just come from a hellish adventure in Mt. Prospect, but this experience was the terrible icing on an inedible cake. I've passed by here many times on the way to and from my father's house. I've never really had the urge to stop, but I felt ambitious and so Pita BBQ it was. I walked in and it was empty. Not a single other patron was to be found. I almost decided to turn around, and I probably should have. Granted I came around 4:30, and maybe it's more of a take out place than dine-in, but it felt strange. I decided to stick around, so I surveyed the menu board for a few moments before deciding on the Chili Chicken wrap, which is spicy chicken that is sauteed in red chili and onions, and served on flat bread. I paid for my order, took and seat, and waited. Looking around, the restaurant is a hodgepodge mix of seating. It seems as though they raided a bunch of "end of season" sales at Lowe's and Home Depot's outdoor furniture area. There were multiple styles of chairs at a single table, and there was even a large, plastic looking table that would be better suited outdoors than in. I'm not quite sure what kind of theme they are going for, but there's an obvious clash of style in every corner of the establishment. I also noticed the name of the previous establishment still painted above the door. I guess it'd be too much work for someone to scrape that off. After about three minutes, my order was ready. I opened my wrap to discover an enormous amount of fragrant chicken and onions spilling out of the flat bread. Excited, I took my first bite and was immediately surprised by how spicy it is. I'm no stranger to spicy food, but this stuff was insane. I couldn't managed one bite without following up with a huge swig of water. With every bite, I noticed more and more that this dish tasted identical to chicken vindaloo that I used to get at an Indian restaurant in Naperville. Months ago, that wouldn't have been a bad thing but I can no longer appreciate that style of food, so needless to say this meal was a huge turnoff. Between the taste association and the over abundance of spice, I threw in the towel and wrapped up the 3/4ths of the wrap I hadn't touched. I will say that the quality of the chicken was excellent and the flat bread was pillow-y soft. The service deserves a big fat 0. I encountered two different employees during my visit, and neither one of them were friendly or welcoming. The guy who took my order had a perma-frown on his face and the personality of a wet mop. When I asked for a box or bag for the remainder of my food, the second employee I dealt with looked bored out of his mind and it took every ounce of strength to pass me a styrofoam container. As I turned to leave, I was polite and said "thank you" but didn't receive a response. I think one of them may have said something but it was under his breath. Maybe I came on an "off" day but I have no desire to return. I was expecting more of a Mediterranean flavor, not Indian. Pita BBQ left a bad taste in my mouth, literally and figuratively.

Restaurant update I ended up here grabbing a quick lunch last week and was surprised they did away with the lunch special menu. So they don't have the super delux lunch for 6.95. I still ended up selecting the combo grill which had a little of everything. For 12 dollars it is slightly over priced for lunch. I am perplexed why the chicken kabobs came as slices of chicken and some of the shwarma was slightly overcooked and chewy. I think I will have to look elsewhere for Mediterranean food as the quality is slightly down from before. I guess all good things come to an end...

Just OK is how I would sum this place up. Nothing special. Since this was the first time, I ordered a combo plate with chicken and beef swarma, chicken kabobs, falafal and a side of hummus and basmati rice. Although the meats were tender, they were bland and the hummus was even more bland. The falafal was almost on the burnt side. The upside? The basmati rice was awesome, very fragrant and tasty. Will I come back again? Only if I were with friends who wanted med food. I'll try the wrap next time and maybe will have better experience.

While shopping at a nearby LL Bean, the boyfriend and I decided to stop at Pita BBQ for an early dinner. The Yelp photos of the food looked delicious and a gyro sounded like the perfect meal. When I pulled up, the first thing I noticed was that no customers were there. We even ordered our food and ate it on a table outside and no other customers dined here the entire time. Probably a bad sign.. I found the interior of the restaurant to be lacking in cleanliness -- everything looked and felt dirty and the gentleman taking our order kept touching his nose (thank goodness he was not the one preparing the food). I also had to use the bathroom while there, and it certainly wasn't the cleanest public restroom I've ever seen. Now on to the food: we shared a gyro wrap and the "famous" chicken tandoori burger. The gyro was the better choice between the two. It had a generous portion of meat and the tzatziki sauce was refreshing and delicious. The chicken tandoori burger was underwhelming. The flavor only vaguely resembled what is was supposed to and half of the burger went unfinished.

Choose the spicy chili chicken, and falafel. Both were very good! I took a chance trying this worried about the spicy level, and was very pleased. Not too spicy but just enough flavor to enjoy.

Delicious, worth every penny, and then some! I am usually nod a fan of middle-eastern food, but this place completely knocked my socks off. When I walked in I was not expecting much, the decor was startling and the the restaurant dark and generally uninviting. The staff were friendly while I was ordering, and bantered with me while I chose what I wanted to eat, which was nice of them. I got my meal and sat down to eat with coworkers - and proceeded to have my mind completely blown! I have LITERALLY never had a more delicious piece of pita bread in my entire life. And I have eaten a lot of it! I feel like I would go back just for the bread. I can't rave as hard about the rest of the meal, the Spicy Chili Chicken was amazing, but just slightly too dry to push the review up into 5 stars. The basmati rice was really good, but didn't have that special something to push it into the extraordinary range. Despite that for a ~$10 meal I was well more than satisfied! I actually got up after my meal to personally thank the chef for the experience - he gave me a fist bump, which was pretty cool. I am hoping that when I went it was just an off day, and the food will be worthy of my second 5 star review!
