Sometimes I like to get pizza delivered but I hate ordering from Domino's due to their support of radically conservative causes. So I tried, really, really, tried, to like Jake's. I tried the thin crust, the pan, the stuffed... hoping to find something tasty. Invariably I ended up paying an above average price for a below average pizza. It may just be the location I'm ordering from, the pizza can take a long time to be delivered (over an hour in one case) and when it gets here it is likely to be luke warm and tough from having been left on the warming table too long before going out to be delivered. I like to support local merchants but I'm currently secretly wishing that a Papa John's would move into the area.

It takes a lot to give me a tummy ache. Jake's pizza does the trick every time. But $1.99 for a slice of deep dish and a "pop" on Fridays? Ugggh I can't resist. If you've ever had Rocky Rococo's pizza up in Wisconsin, it tastes a lot like theirs, with rubbery cheese and a slightly sweet crust. The interior is pretty run down, but they always have a tv running, if that's your thing. They've recently displayed a new menu that includes a wide range of baked pastas, salads, and cheezy beef-esque sandwiches.

When I was a high school kid Jake's Pizza was just SO good! I am not a guy that likes a whole bunch of stuff on my pizza... pretty bland I suppose. But back then I was HUGE on the Deep Dish Cheese/Sausage and it was just SO delicious. I went away to college and then ordered again from my local Jake's after about 1 year away and OMG what a change. I guess they changed ownership but I haven't had a good pizza from them since. This goes back to the 80's... this place just SUCKS! I can get pizza that is SO FAR superior to this garbage at so many places here in Chicago. Sometimes I get nostalgic and I really want to try them again but there is no such thing as a 10 dollar large anymore and I just HATE to toss my cash away. When I get a slice of Jake's for FREE that actually tastes DECENT I might reconsider. Until then I suggest that you folks look elsewhere... this pizza isn't very good.

Pretty awful experience. I go there with two friends, and we walk up to the counter. We wait for at least ten minutes while the guy talks on the phone right in front of us. Finally, he pauses and lets us order our food. The pizza was not great, kind of rubbery and greasy, and I'm pretty sure it gave me a stomach ache later. When my friend tried to go buy something else there was nobody at the register. I will not go here again.

Oooooh you sexy beast of a BLT pizza. So my boyfriend is all "check this pizza out" and I'm thinking surely he has lost his damn mind for real this time, because why is there lettuce on my pie?! I humor him and because I adore him, I ninja order the BLT one night. And then we ate it and I haven't been able to order anything else since then, because once I walk in, all sense leaves my brain and before I know it, the aliens have taken over and I'm ordering the BLT pizza again. I'm not so much for the appetizers, I'll admit, but I can see how they'd totally be someone else's bag. They're great for late night pizza options if you are SO over Domino's, or something similar. Also great for quick slices- they have a case of greasy goodness that you can choose your poison from.

Jake's is my go-to pizza place, in the area. It's not the closest, cheapest, or the most gourmet... But they are ~consistently~ very good, has a nice variety of ~consistently~ prepared food, and are very reasonably priced for that consistency. There are other good pizzerias in the area, but the quality can vary from night to night - sometimes even hour to hour. Every time I order from Jake's, their quality is the same. So, when I go to Jake's, I know I'm getting exactly what I wanted. I'd say their chewy pan pizzas are pretty good, and their crispy thin crust pizzas are excellent. I'm particularly fond of their BLT specialty thin crust pizza. Their sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, and salads are all good - again, very consistent. Their broasted chicken baskets are excellent, and among my top favorite in the neighborhood. While it's not the Hôtel de Ville, the spartan dining area has a classic inner-city charm to it, and is always deceptively clean. The employees are nice, and seem to pay a lot of attention to detail. Best of all, Jake's is open late, all week long (9am ~ 12am). There are so few late-night options for us night owls in the area,so I'm glad there's always Jake's!

I was sooo hungry. I stopped in for a slice. Good price. No complaints there. Service was pleasant. The slice of pizza i ordered? Beyond greasy. It was inedible. I had a few bites (remember I was hungry). Threw the rest away. Won't be back.

Jake's is pretty decent. Some of their items are kind of bland, but most are good. The western pizza is great, they make good salads and potato skins, I like the thick slices of pizza they have available at all times, and the meatball sandwiches, beef sandwiches, and fries are also good. It's not gourmet, but it's a good local place.

My sister is a nanny so we took her brood of three and my two grandchildren. I didn't even know there was a buffet but since we didn't want to wait we went for it. $4.99 AYCE drinks seperate and they don't have a soda fountain so it's bottles of water and cans of soda. When we drove up the look of the place had me thinking we should maybe find a McD's but the kids were anxious to get out of the car so we went in. This place is very small with seating for maybe 30 people. There's a stack of extra chairs against the wall but I don't know where you'd put them and from the 4th one down they are covered in a thick layer of dust. The guys working are just doing their jobs. No overly friendly gushy stuff going on here. Fine by me. The Pizza: So fricken good! Yay! Thin crispy crust! Real italian sausage! The buffet only had 4 pizzas on it but we didn't ask if they could make any specific type because the ones they had were perfect for our group. Plain Cheese for the 3 yr old and Miss Picky Pants, Pepperoni for the boys, Garbage and Cheese & Sausage for the grownups. The Garbage Pizza needs to be addressed seperately. It was loaded with sausage, pepperoni, BACON, onions, green peppers, mushroom, jalepenos and that's all I remember for sure. So very good. We ate til we could barely move. We have a Jake's closer to home that I've never been to and I can't wait to try it now. Please let it be as good as this one! Side note: Lotsa eye candy for the womenfolk! Men taking their lunch make for some light entertainment. Weirdly the t.v. was playing stupid soap operas the whole time.

This is the worst pizza in Northbrook, go to Barnaby's, Joe's, Piero's, (all 5 stars) anywhere but here. We've ordered from Jake's several times and the pizza is always soggy. I live close to Jake's but we are forced to drive past this place for a good pizza. Never again. Poor value too.

Their food is excellent. Thin crust pizza is very good. If you stop in for lunch, call in an order beforehand don't bother with the pizza in the lazy susan Great sandwiches. Ribs are amazingly good with tons of sides. The chicken Parmesan is to die for...they truly have the best grilled chicken Caesar salad anywhere. It's huge and only seven bucks and change. Made fresh every time.

This is the worst place to order for pick up. Order at 413 for a 530 pick up with tax exemption to feed hungry ice skaters that need to be on the ice at 620. This is what happened. Pizza not ready until 603. Charged tax though told tax exemption. These idiots don't know how to verbally apologize. Gave 10 coupons for next order 50% off. Don't think I'm coming back this %#!? hole.

Their extra thin crust is pretty damn bomb! I used to love coming in here for a slice and i wish they had the extra thin crust available back then. The other ones are a bit too much bread but when they are fresh its pretty good. They have decent burgers too. Fries are ok. My biggest negative is how salty their meat toppings are. I had an extra thin bacon, pepperoni, and sausage and after a couple bites it was just toooo high in sodium

We order from here all the time. The pizza is good. Make sure to order in advance on popular days (e.g. Halloween) as they get quite backed up since they are so popular! They have lots of coupons so be sure to check local Northbrook publications before ordering. We only have used them for take-out but they do have limited seating.

Our pizza go to place. This is like the only place we order from whenever we do pizza or when the kids have friends over. We only do the thin crust, the others were ok... Their BLT is one of a kind, they used to have the margarita on the menu, it's no longer there, but they can make it for you. The by the slice that have the whole kitchen sink is awesome too. I recommend this place. Not cheap thou.

One of the few pizza by the slice establishments in the North suburbs. Jake's is a solid choice that is really more about value than taste. Their slices are real cheap and filling, with a taste that is decent too. The service is hit or miss as the workers seem to be more concerned with what's going on in the back than working the front counter. They have been generous though and thrown in an extra slice or charged half off for one that had been sitting out for a long time. Overall it's a solid choice for someone looking for a cheap filling lunch on a budget. My only gripe is that they don't serve pizza by the slice on Sundays.

The pizza is always good! They give you a time and it's ready on time. Great lunch buffet, too.

Another place I've been too many times and haven't reviewed.....because it's simply forgettable. My man, Jay K., is almost right, it's the second worst pizza in Northbrook behind Sarpinos (even Dominos is better) and also has A LOT better value than Sarpinos too. Anytime I can use a different review to rip on Sarpinos and talk about how bad they are, yes, I will do that. I only used to come here b/c of convenience and b/c of the all you can eat pizza deal they USED to have at lunch. I don't think they do this anymore though, which sucks b/c it was really the only thing that got me to come here on days when I felt too thin in the britches :) The service is awful. I have waited at the counter for several minutes during peak lunch hours for someone to give me a dirty look like I'm taking up their time. Just a tip if you do get the pizza, get the thin crust. The thick is horrible, especially the crust... it's all dough and filler. If you're going to order pan/deep dish, please have the common sense enough to go to either Lou Mals or Pierros. I only give this place the second star because they do have a semi decent western pizza, which includes bacon and onion with a bbq based sauce. This is fairly unique and fairly tasty, and you can't really get it anywhere else in the area but maybe Marcello's, in which they are a close 3rd worse pizza place in NB (yuck that Thai chicken pizza makes me squeamish just thinking about it). Barnabys in Northbrook or Joes in Wheeling are the top thin crust pizzas around. Don't even play around with Jake's unless you're having a major party and want to save some major money with their crazy coupons for 10 pizzas for $50 or whatever they are offering. If this is the case, smack your friends in the face and force them to chip in for some better quality pizza. Ain't NOBODY got time for dis' horrible pizza!

Well where do we start. The food is good. My sons requested it on Xmas eve this year so we ordered a couple large pizza's for lunch. My wife called it in for delivery and gave our CC # over the phone for payment. She was told that the pizza's would take about 45 minutes. At 1hr 15mins she called back and was told they were on the way. Pizza's were probably still at the store when we called since it took about as long as it would to drive there. Anyway, I digress, the real story starts now.... BEWARE when using your credit card over the phone. No sooner had we finished the pizza and opened some gifts there was a fraudulent charge to Tigerdirect.com for over $1800. Seems someone at the store was doing some Xmas shopping of there own. We cancelled the card right away and hopefully the theft control people at the bank were able to stop the shipment. No computer for you. I sent 2 emails to the store, but there emails are handled by another company and a robot said they would be forwarded. In the second email I told them I would be writing some reviews. Becareful, I'm off to Tripadvisor.

I gave this place 3 stars because it is close to my house which is convenient. Also, the last time as in the most recent and final time, they forget to take the cooking pan out prior to giving me the pizza which really rocks because I needed one of those pans. The pizza on the other hand is pretty much Tonys like you would get from the grocery store frozen. It does seem like they are open late which is cool if you get to stay out late but I always have to be up early which isn't cool.

Truly mediocre pizza. It is at least on the cheap side though. So if you want fast service, semi cheap mediocre pizza then come here. Not much else to say.

I personally don't like this place i called to order pizza for a delivery and asked if they have stuffed crust and the guy was talking to someone else in the background and didn't even pay attention to my question and answered yes and i ended up getting a hard rock stuffed pizza not stuffed crust that literally tasted only like tomato paste...there also pretty expensive!!!

Not sure who was taking orders on the night of June 28th, but WOW he couldn't even get my address right??? Took over 10 minutes on the phone just to order 1 pizza?!?!?! You might want to get someone that communicate better over the phone. Otherwise you will probably lose a lot of business. I was ready to hang up. He didn't even give me a total for my order?!?!? WOW!?!?!?!

Whoever says it isn't good pizza must be from the suburbs! Anyone that grew up in Chicago knows this place is authentic! Glad my dad introduced me to this gem!

There is no better deal for the price. Came here with my coworkers during lunch and for $4.99 plus a $.75 for a coke we had all you can eat greasy, delicious, goodness. The pepperoni pizza was at the top of my list and this place will be revisited for a long time. Very friendly dude behind the counter and uber tasty pizza. A working man's paradise for the price. :-)

This is not great pizza. They do not even have great fries. But I still like Jakes. The prices are fair and I have never had to wait more than twenty minutes for my food. The service is always polite. It's pizza. If you're expecting more then you'll be disappointed.

*** Awful. Metal staple in my pizza!! *** -Customer service really bad - guy who answered phone could barely eke out a weak "oh yeah, sorry." Manager didn't bother to get on the phone with me personally to offer an apology or refund. -(Also, old, sour mango slices on (an otherwise good) spinach salad.) -Driver had to call me twice - while driving - to get to a very simple, explained-to-death address.

This place is classic. It's not as good as Piero's, Edwardo's, or other locales, but it's a huge slice of doughy pizza done right for a great price. Even more important -- they're the only storefront in all of Northbrook open late. They've saved me from Taco Bell so many times when looking for a snack post-beers at 12am on a Saturday night. They're also real friendly here. About as good as Northbrook quick slices get.

I've been eating pizza at Jakes for about 30 years now. Its not the best, but it is very good and provides for a great alternative to something like Dominoes. For something different try their Cheezy beef with Fries. Lots of cheese and the fries are the best around. Also it's cheap, something like $5.50 for the beef with fries. Delivery is slow so, like an hour but if you pick it up yourself it is usually ready in about 25 minutes.

After the three Jake's locations closest to me closed this year, I found this location. I grew up at the Mount Prospect location, so that's my benchmark. I've quickly become a regular here. The pizza here is good. The crust is a little different, I can't quite figure it out.... Maybe cheaper ingredients to it? But anyway, crust is fresh-tasting, nice and thin, soft middle, crispy edges. The toppings are GOOD. Good good good good good. (And really, above the crust, this pizza is the same great stuff I grew up with). Very tasty cheese, and a generous amount on all pies. The sausage is outstanding. All other toppings I've had are good too, but don't need a separate break down. I LOVE the pizza-by-the-slice experience here. $3 after tax for a slice, thin or pan. They do a very good job here of having the slices always tasting very close to fresh while still being warm enough. I'm not crazy about the pan pizza slices, but that's just preference. On Friday's, you can add a drink on to your slice for what ends up being about 25 cents. I'm looking forward to trying more of the menu, but I just can't say no to the pizza when I walk in the door and smell that good smell and see those slices ready and waiting. You can dine in, but it's a one room storefront, not really a sit-down restaurant. You'll be eating off paper plates and drinking bottled soda. ...And if, by some chance, you're a stranded fan of the Mount Prospect or Glenview Jake's, go here. Trust me. The crust is different but it'll be okay. You can always order a par-baked pizza and finish cooking it when you get back home, or just order a pizza and eat it there.

Love the cheesy beef and always get it on garlic bread. Delicious! Haven't had the pizza while, but remember that it was good when I last got it. Whenever I come in for my food, the pizzas they have in those rotating display thingies always look and smell awesome!

Jake's has some of the best pizza in the 'burbs! I'm originally from Brooklyn, went to college in Chicago, so I seriously miss city-style pizza. Jake's pizza is like a combo of NY and Chicago, nice big pies, you can get either their thick chewy pan style or crispy thin crust. I love both crusts, they have awesome cheese and aren't stingy with it! Prices are nice too! They also have broasted chicken, juicy burgers, and really good salads! I highly suggest getting the potato skins, they are some of the best I have ever had! I have never had a chance to eat in, I always get carryout, but the place even looks like it would be in the city. Like you magically got wisked away from the North Shore and are downtown! You can get pizza by the slice, seems perfect spot to just grab a quick lunch or late nigh snack! They are pretty fast for carryout, usually just 20 minutes! They are open until 2am, perfect for night owls! I'm not sure how their computer system works, but they have my phone number listed as 'Osborn Irving'....which sounds like the alias of a super villain and isn't my name. But that's never been a problem, my order is always correct!
