Come before either lunch or dinner rush or you will be waiting a long time. The food is really good even though some things have changed since new ownership bought out the restaurant group. I went there this past Friday and waited close to 15 minutes for 2 burgers, a fry and onion rings and they weren't that busy. Normally when the person calling out numbers sees someone there for a long time they ask what your number is and will actually help locate your order on the line to help move it along. Not this time. Not even a shift supervisor rolled past the window and when that would happen they would apologize and offer you a piece of their chocolate cake. Be aware that any time they mess up that is there go to offering to make up for their mishap. Can't tell you how many times I have had that offered to me and I found out about this practice from an employee that works at another location. But if you are in the mood for a good burger, beef, hot dog, fries, onion rings or even the chicken sandwiches. Stop by Portillo's and come before the rush. I have seen really long lines at this location for many hours.

The late Roger Ebert once said that you only judge a film based on if it achieves what it sets out to achieve, not what you would like it to be. The same logic applies to Portillo's Hot Dogs. Portillo's sets out to provide tasty fast food at reasonable prices, and it achieves that goal with flying colors. Will eating a roast beef and cheddar sandwich on a croissant damage your heart? It might. When I consume a delicious Maxwell Street Polish, am I increasing my risk of a stroke? Yes I am. Will the chocolate cake shake make it more likely that I will contract Type 2 diabetes and die without a full set of toes? You betcha! But that's hardly the point. Portillo's never claimed to be health food. Accept this establishment for what it is, and enjoy at your own risk.

So amazing is was everything I was hoping for from Vegas! So this was my first time! Plan on making the drive to AZ for Portillos!

Im a sucker for the polish and fries. Noting more to say. LOL, the drive thru is super crazy in the summer and winter I guess. I feel like it needs to expands for all the business that it acquires on a daily basis. I have nothing negative to say about this place. I love portillo.

This is the food of heaven and the best food in Chicagoland. Whatever you order is amazing, especially Chicago style hot dogs, burgers, and Italian beef. However, I'm only giving four stars because if you are ordering your meal to go then be prepared to wait a significant amount of time.

Wow, first time here. I don't remembers these when I lived here in the mid-80's. This place rocks!! Had the combo and it was so good, I wish I could eat 2. My co-worker said the salads are excellent too, but can't imagine having a salad in hot-dog joint, but maybe next time. Don't have anything like this in SoCal wish they did. Well definitely be back when I am in this area again.

If you've been in Chicago for longer than a week chances are someone told you to go to Portillo's. I have friends from across the country that get starry eyed at the very idea of having Portillo's Italian beef, hot dog, or French fries. I could talk for days about how everyone should try these when they come to Chicago, but this review is for the experienced Portillo's diner. Step over to the Barnelli's side of the line and order a Peasant Pasta. What? You've never heard of such a thing? EXACTLY! This dish is probably the best item on the entire menu, but most people didn't even know it exists! Peasant pasta is a throwback to an old Italian dish where a little bit of everything is mixed together. It is loaded with chicken, Italian sausage, and bacon over rigatoni noodles and a flavorful sauce. The sauce is velvety smooth and flavored with chicken broth, butter, and cannellini beans. They finish the dish with steamed escarole, fresh parsley, and little parmesan cheese. As if you didn't already love everything from Portillo's and Barnelli's, this will surely seal the deal!

If you are not from or currently living in Chicago, you are definitely missing out! Portillo's is one of my all-time favorite places to eat. My favorite meal is a chili dog with french fries. Their desserts are top notch. I can never decide between the luscious chocolate cake and the always satisfying strawberry shortcake. Chicago natives like me love this place. Keep up the good work, Mr. Portillo!

Amazing place, has a special place in the heart of every Chicagoan. Their onion rings are mouth watering, hot peppers are on point, and their cake shakes are the cats meow. The staff has it down to a science, even walking through the drive through to take your order before you actually pull up to the window. Great place and great people always delivering a great takeout.

If you are living in Chicago, or visiting Chicago, there is no way you aren't coming here. If you don't, well, I'm sorry for you. Portillo's is absolutely amazing! They have the best service and food ever! I have been to Portillo's many times, but one time, my grade went to Portillo's after a field trip. Since there were a lot of people, Portillo's had servers go down the line of people waiting to put in their orders and took their orders in line and gave them a ticket. By the time you got to the register, you just handed the ticket, paid, and waited for your food. This made it go so much faster and instead of waiting in line forever. This is also the same at the drive thru. The drive thru normally has tons of cars lined around the building. They do the same thing and go to each car and place a ticket on the windshield and your order gets to you much faster. Although, if this is your first time, do not go through the drive thru. You will most likely already have your food by the time you reach where the menu is, so if you are new, go inside the restaurant. The food is so unbelievable too. I usually get the jumbo chili cheese dog which has a hardy hot dog covered in warm, savory chili. Their fries are always cooked to perfection and are always warm by the time you sit down. Barnelli's, which is a salad and pasta place within Portillo's has delicious food. Their salads are fresh with a wide array of ingredients. Portillo's also has yummy shakes which aren't too thick that it can't be sucked through a straw, but aren't watery; they're perfect. I always get the chocolate shake which has a creamy texture with a sweet, chocolaty flavor. Their sizes for shakes are small and large, but my recommendation is to not get the large because it is ginormous. Portillo's has such a friendly and fun atmosphere and it feels like you know everyone there. The décor has fun objects from old license plates to suspended motorcycles. It is a great deal too because a meal including fries and shakes for a family of four was under $27. Portillo's is for any kind of palate, and will make you smile every time.

I usually love Portillos but after this experience I do not know if I will return. I am 6 months pregnant and it was raining when I went through the drive thru with two separate orders. Even though about five people were working the drive thru line, they refused to help me because they said they do not do separate orders in the drive thru. I asked to speak with the manager and they made me wait about 10 minutes until I got to the window to talk to her (God forbid she come out in the rain to help me.) At that point I was not interested in supporting their company. Terrible customer service.

Drive thru service is the pits!! Terrible terrible! First time I went through the person dropped my food on the ground and then tried to serve it to me saying ... No.. They remade the salad... Right!! In 10 seconds? That's bull! Second time....the girl didn't know that she was swiping the card the wrong way! I had to tell her she was ! Wow!!! And the the person who gives the food out didn't. He came up to me after I got my food at the window And he said oh I'm sorry I was going to get to you ... But he was too busy chattin it up with the money girl. What a bunch of morons!!!! The food in the other hand is as good as it gets for Portillos. I won't be going through the drive thru this time at this sorry place .

Great food. Friendly staff. Nice and clean. Great menu with lots to offer. It does get extremely busy during lunch /dinner time and on the weekends. Drive through line is generally long but seems to move along at a decent pace.

I was so young when I started going to this Portillo's that I actually thought the décor was super-cool; I'll admit that I've changed my mind since then, but I still love this place--more now than I did then. They've got a pretty good variety of food, so even if you're not in the mood for what you usually get here, chances are you'll find something you like, and you might even end up discovering a new favorite. They have awesome hotdogs and really good burgers (they're well-done, but the meat is never tough or dry), they're not my favorite Italian beef place, but they lure my grandmother all the way out from Texas--she has to eat here (she's also specific about the location) almost every day while she's visiting. They have really good, crispy fries and onion rings, AND if you're eating in, you can wash it all down with a beer--which is awesome. The pastas and sandwiches on the Barnelli's side are also pretty good (or at least better than average), although I have to say I really love the salad that comes with fruit and some kind of poppy-seed dressing. They offer a really moist 'chocolate' cake that really doesn't pack anywheres near as much chocolate as it looks like it does, but it is pretty good and--as I've already mentioned--very moist, so, though it will satisfy my sweet tooth, it won't satisfy me if I'm craving chocolate. If you're looking for something fast, but you don't like fast food, than you've found the place--the drive through and the job they do there are incredible. The prices are great, again considering that the food is of much better quality than that of fast food chains, which makes this place ideal for dine-in or carry-out depending on your time-restraints or moods.

Lou Malnati's, Garrett's Popcorn, Eli's Cheesecake. Throw Portillo's into that convo, too! This place was a nuthouse. What a well oiled machine at lunch time. You know what you're getting when you come here. NO FRILLS CHICAGO FOOD.

When I was a little girl, I apparently bit the doctor. My mom made a deal with me then that if I didn't bite the next doctor, she would give me a reward...maybe a sticker, maybe a Barbie...it depended on the magnitude of the appointment. I like rewards :) It worked and I haven't bitten a doctor since... Last night, I had to have my first ever tooth filling. I called my mom to tell her I'd been brave. I didn't even have them numb the area where they were drilling around to clean and fill. She said she thought I could have a reward! I agreed. The dentist said I could eat whatever I wanted...hot or cold! SO I picked a Portillos Italian Beef with sweet peppers and small fries and an ice cold Sprite...It was a reward that rivaled a Barbie! Yum!!! (And I didn't even have to get out of the car...8 bundled up waitstaff made the to-go line a zip to get thru!!!) Thanks Portillos, for never letting me down when I need a treat :)

It has happened several times going through the drive thru. I order a french fry with my meal, and I get half a french fry serving. Come on Portillo's! At least try to get it to look like the picture. I felt cheated. This is great food, fast service, but I did not get what I ordered.

    (2)
  • Abby V.

Yep, about as good as it gets. I have never had anything here that wasn't the bomb good. When family come to visit, all they want is to go here to eat. . Don't be intimidated by the long, long lines. They are very organized and move very fast. The chopped salad is best I ever had along with their house dressing. Italian beef double dipped, beef and cheddar crossiant, breaded chicken sandwich, cheese fries, hot dogs, italian sausage.....all of it is greeeeaaaaatttttt. You can't go wrong going here.

This Portillo's pretty much prints money. Drive by any time between 11-1pm and it is an absolute mad house. It is busy for a reason though. Great food, good prices, and friendly service. Just try to avoid the lunch rush.

  • Shin M.

This place is always great. I always get the jumbo hot dog or the italian beef WITH mozarella and dipped, cheese fries, and a chocolate cake. Yum!!! Last time I tried Barnellis for the first time and got a rigatoni a la vodka. It was not bad... it definitely needs A LOT more sauce though! I wouldn't get it again...

This Portillo's is a madhouse during the lunch hour. The wait wasn't bad at 12:00 p.m. inside, but by the time I left the line was nearly at the door. The drive-thru lanes are just as bad. They really should open up another Naperville location, maybe closer to 95th or 111th Streets to alleviate some of the rush. The employees do everything they can to keep the lines moving, but I'd recommend going just before noon, or waiting until after 1:00 p.m. The food here is just as good as any other Portillo's, and there's a lot of seating. My onion rings were disappointing this time though, the onions don't stick to the batter and I ended up with some onion strings and empty "casings" of fried breading that I had to eat separately. I order my italian beef "dry" at this location, since they tend to soak it in gravy and the bread falls apart. Just isn't my thing. They too much mayo on the grilled chicken sandwich also. I love the hot dogs, cheese fries, and italian beef though. Employees are friendly and fast. Bathrooms and restaurant is clean. I'm a fan.

Seriously this place is as good as it gets. Great selection, atmosphere, and the best food. Beef sandwiches are awesome, great hot dogs. Salads are awesome. Chocolate cake is to die for. Some people don't move out of Chicago because they can't do without Portillos.

Good location. Plenty of seating and clean. Best fries around. Hot dog very good. Beef okay. never tried them, but I have been told that the onion rings are also very good.

I've been coming to this Portillo's location since I was a kid and it's always been fantastic. The service is efficient, the employees are polite, and obviously, the food is delish. I prefer to drive through rather than go inside (especially around lunch time, holy cow!), which is easy here because this location has two drive-through lanes, and a handful of workers going down the line taking orders and completing transactions. At another restaurant, a long line like that could take forever, but Portillo's really knows how to get people in and out quickly. And they've never, ever gotten my order wrong. That's pretty impressive considering how many people they serve everyday. If you're looking for a yummy Chicago-style dog you can get quickly, definitely come here.

Worst Portillo's experience ever. We were in a long line and the wife was told she had to order in the Barnelli line. So we were about to get separated. I followed her losing my place in line for a beef. Figure out how to not separate a family like other Portillo's Now I'm leaving hungry and thirsty.

I was never well-acquinted with Portillo's until I came to Illinois, although there are only two that I have heard of in Southern California. At first, I thought it was a Mexican restaurant, but it turned out to be an American food joint. Overall, foodie was goodie. I really want to try their hot dogs before I leave town, which I hear they are famous for. It being my first time, I told the lady at the counter that I was newbie and asked for recommendation. She ordered me a grilled chicken sandwich or wrap (I think) with bacon and all the works for perfection!!! Soooo good!!! This is my new go-to place in the Chicago area.

Best fast food around. Burgers are one of the best in Chicago. Chili cheese dog is out of this world! A Chicago classic !

  • John P.

HA! more crazy reviews. Ok recently I ordered a burger with grilled onions and cheddar cheese. Well they do not have cheddar cheese (sliced ) so you get it grated. Worse still my last order came without the burger...yes they gave me a bun and lettuce with no burger. So I drove 9 miles back to complain and the manager in charge made the measly offer of giving me a new burger and fries WOW that doesn't cover my time and gas...basically its a joke of compensation for my time. Well I told him he could keep the fries and refund the burger...he did but did not have the class to refund the whole order...which I think is the right thing to do for such a waste of a customers time. He did not see it that way...how nice huh? Never going back again.

Love the wide variety menu from Chicago style hot dogs to BBQ rib dinners! You can go there for a month straight and have something different each time. I love their salads, my favorite is the Chopped Salad. Always consistent and always yummy,

Really, Dick Portillo? Do I give a whoop if Jim Belushi hastily scratched his name on a bad publicity photo that looks like it says "Thaonks forthe besthot dogggs! -Jimmmimim"? His stupid TV show had me on the brink of insanity wondering how close we were to the downfall of modern American society. Do I care if Brian Urlacher's meaty, bullet head is displayed next to the counter where I pick up my Italian beef? Nope. His neck-furters make me feel ill when he takes off his helmet. Do I need old, rusty metallic things hanging off the walls making me feel like I could get tetanus at any time? No, sir, I do not. Oh, yeah, the beef and burgers are great. I routinely take off my shirt and rub Portillo's chocolate cake all over my chest hoping i can absorb whatever I can't shove in my mouth and that's only when i'm not shoving my face into a plate of eclair cake. Me likey. I'm hoping Portillo's received my letter requesting they cater my funeral where my casket will serve as an all you can eat beef & burger buffet. I'd like to amend that original request to include chopped salad without chicken or bacon for the vegetarian family members I'll leave behind. I'd like them to remember me as being thoughtful. Thanks!

One of the better Portillo's in the greater Chicagoland area. Great food, great service, lots of seating, and has a BARNELLI'S PASTA BOWL for some delicious pasta with vodka sauce... yummay! This might be my fave portillo's location. I love coming here, the fries are always fresh, they make consistently good food, , the bathrooms are clean, tons of parking, and it's fast as hell.

Went here a couple of times when visiting friends that lived in Chicagoland area. This place was da bomb! I had never even heard of Italian Beef but tried it there and was instantly hooked. I have since looked for something similar in the ATL and it just ain't happening. The worst part is, my friends moved to Maryland so it is going to be a long, long time before I am ever able to get back to Portillo's. Good atmosphere, quick service and just an overall interesting experience with the best (Ok....so the only Italian Beef I have ever had but it was darn good!) Italian Beef sandwich I have ever had!

I'm a fan of Portillo's, but this was my first time at the Naperville/Rt. 59 location. It has a country western theme but otherwise is similar to the other locations I've visited. I've never been to Portillo's when it wasn't busy. It is bustling and tends to feel a bit chaotic to me. There is a lot of seating but the tables are really close together. It's usually pretty loud, which is fine for a quick lunch but probably not the place to sit and catch up with a friend. The staff are VERY friendly, courteous and every single one had a great smile. Very nice service. They are very efficient with a lot of staff that seem hard working- they take your order ahead of time in the drivethrough and at busy times inside of the restaurant to save time. The fries are the best anywhere- hot, fresh, perfect amount of salt, crinkle cut- delicious! I ordered a hamburger with just lettuce, tomato and pickle (I love how their pickles are thick-cut) but ended up with a hamburger with everything on it- they took it back and made a new one for me and said "sorry about that". The burgers tast char-grilled to me. My husband loves their Italian sausage sandwich. I often grab a to-go menu right when I get there so I can read up close the ingredients and description of the menu items so that when I get through the line I'm all ready to go. The line goes pretty fast and it feels like you need to be ready quickly. I think the salads are fantastic! I also really like the warm lemon poppyseed muffin that comes with all of the salads. My favorite salad is the chopped salad- I order it a little bit different (no cheese, no onion, light on the dressing, add croutons) and it is so delicious! The chicken pecan salad is also tasty- it has a unique WARM honey mustard dressing which adds great flavor. I was here on a Saturday afternoon and there were straw wrappers and food all over the floor because it was so busy, but several people were cleaning and sweeping the restaurant so got it all before I was done with my quick meal.

When I saw a line wrapped around the building and out into the street for the drive thru line, and the very large parking lot completely full, I had to stop by. Im very glad I did! The Chicago style hot dog was very good, the best Chicago style dog I've ever had. I enjoy the pickle wedge on top of the hot dog instead of the green relish other Chicago hot dog stands use. The chef salad with house dressing was also very good, which I find out was just as popular as their dogs! Another plus: even though the house was packed, and is every time I go in, the service is quick and I don't have to wait long inside or in the drive thru.

I have lived in IL for three years and ate at Portillo's once before. Frankly, I didn't get the hype. (I said so on Yelp, but my review seems to have vanished...???) Part of it may be that I don't like hot dogs, which is a major item around which their menu is built. The last time I went, I had a burger and root beer, which were serviceable but not worth waiting in a line wrapped around the building, like there is at any given time. My boyfriend, however, has lived here a good chunk of his life and has dedicated himself to trying to convert me to the Portillo's mentality. We went last night for dinner. He suggested the grilled chicken sandwich (I got it on a croissant); my eye was also caught by the pina colada smoothie. I'm still saying "ehh". The breakdown: - the grilled chicken was clearly fresh, but a bit over the top on saltiness. The fact that it was so hot and juicy also made the croissant a bit mushy; a harder roll would have been better, actually. - fries were awesome. crinkly (but not like Ore-Ida) with a extra-crunchy exterior, they satisfied a salt craving that I'd had all day. - the smoothie was a bit too sugary for me; if they'd dialed back the sweetness a bit this would have been perfect. As to the restaurant itself, the theme was for some reason "Old West/Gold Rush" (or something like that). This meant (I'm not sure why) that modern country music had to play incessantly (my boyfriend said this is always the case); maybe that's why so many people choose the drive-thru? (heh) There was a lot of seating space (not only lots of tables to choose from on this occasion, but just a lot of tables in general.) Overall, between the music, signs, and several counters for ordering/picking up different things, it seemed like a lot of confusion to me. I will point out that the staff was very polite; everyone we crossed paths with, even for a second, was upbeat and kind. Big gold star for them. I still am not a complete convert, but I'm told that their chocolate cake is to die for and I still have to try the Italian beef, so I'll give them another shot. Maybe someday you'll see me in that line of cars outside.

Great hot dogs. They have one of the best drive thru systems I've ever seen. The service is pretty good, although most of the people working the drive-thru are young kids. This place gets extremely busy, but they have a way of keeping the lines moving and I've never had to wait long for food.

This is the gold standard for Chicago's famous Italian Beef sandwich. Prices are low, food is ALWAYS good ( been coming here for 20 years.. ). Service is wicked fast.. even when the drive thru is packed, its still lightning quick. Fries = Awesome I have been trying to eat more healthy so this is a special occasion for me but the beef is only about 500 calories, so not bad.. Fat is about 27 grams which is a bit high but it packs almost 50g of protein.. so worth it for lunch from time to time. And they serve BEER!!! AND its reasonably priced!! I love Portillio's!!

Have been to this location dozens of times and always get my food promptly and 9 out of 10 times there are no mistakes. I still give it a 5 though because they are always very quick to get us to correct food.

The best Portillos, but it's always packed. The drive thru has a constant line. And there are two lanes! But the food is conistently good. Barnellis offers different food items (Chicken Portabella and Chicken Panini) that most other Portillo's don't offer.

Great hot dogs, cheese fries and beer! What could be better. Fast friendly service. Great is you want something quick. They are always busy but you never have to wait long. You can actually buy some of there food and have it shipped right to your door. Although I am more of a experience type person, go there and enjoy. Chocolate cake is okay but I can top it.

Dick Portillo, you magnificent bastard. I've never eaten a Portillo's product I didn't like. Hot dogs, burgers, juicy Italian beef, THE BEST FRIES EVER, and the drool-inducing Chopped Salad that haunts my dreams on those lonely nights when I'm away from the Chicago area. Don't forget to top your meal off with a yummy chocolate cake shake: a chocolate shake with actual chunks of their amazing chocolate cake in it. I'm gaining weight just thinking about it. One of my favorite things about the franchise is that they are SO ORGANIZED. Come to the drive-thru on a busy Saturday afternoon and you'll see what I mean. They'll have you outta there in five-to-seven minutes, even when the line of cars seems unending. Truly, God is on their side.

In the 'burbs, this is the place to go to get a dog or a beef. Fast, tasty, juicy, totally flavorful, generally nice staff, ample seating. The only thing to contend with is, at the wrong times, 50 soccer moms and their broods with dubious manners pouring out of Lexus SUVs and making a generally noisy and chaotic environment - ah, but what the heck, it's Naperville, and if it's that bad just get it to go. I grew up on *Chicago* hot dogs like Fluky's, but when we were stuck in the 'burbs, this was quite the fine alternative.

I spent the majority of my school days living about a block or so from a Portillo's so I grew up eating Italian beefs w/ hot & sweet peppers and fries. Totally delicious. Very juicy seasoned Italian beef in crunchy franchise bread but not dipped in au jus the smooth sweet peppers and the little kick of hot peppers. I miss awesome Italian beefs like Portillo's I'm Seattle.

I give them 3 stars. I'd give them 4, but their beef sands were good about 20 years ago, now they suck. I'd give them 5 stars for the cake shake. My god, that's a hellouva shake. I miss the old logo with the dauschound!

I love me some Portillo's!! WOW, I never knew what heaven was like until I bit into their beef sandwich! haha! Their Italian beef is beyond goodness and until recently only ordered that from their menu! Now I'm hooked to their cheeseburgers, OMG! They are so good... Love their onion rings too! Chopped salad is great! Everything I've tried so far is awesome. You definitely can't get this stuff back at home and I'm glad I live here now, haha! Portillo's has a lifer in me! YEA!

Nothing better than a Portillo's Italian Beef, cheese fries and a large root beer!! It's always the first place I stop to eat when heading back to Chicago!

I'm not from Chicago originally, so I don't feel capable of reviewing a Chicago Hot Dog. I can say that I do like Portillo's version, but I also like the version I can buy at random outdoor stands. So I'm hardly a picky person. I do love their chopped salad - I think its the dressing that puts it over the top. The little pasta added in is also great, and I've been happy with the chicken quality. I typically don't eat in Portillo's because they are usually well organized mad houses. However, I ended up in here on a Sunday afternoon, and was reasonably surprised. It was packed with families, but didn't feel too noisy. I found a spot next to a window, and it almost felt restful.

Yesterday I had Papa Charlies Itallian Beef at a friend's Packers/Bears game party. So today I had to opt in for the real thing! Portillo's and their Itallian beef with motz is the best, best, BEST! Add a side of hot peppers and I am in heaven! The chocolate cake shake is a true original as well! Now, I am going to have to log some extra miles in my zig zag shoes.

Most of a time this particular location doesn't make Italian Beef's to my liking. I prefer the beef to be shredded, tender, and well seasoned. The one in Downers Grove is much better in my opinion. I wish they could pick up some lessons from there! Edit 12/30: Quality has improved recently. Upping to 4 stars.

My all time favorite restaurant. Nobody makes burgers like Portillo's. I've had cheeseburgers all over the country and by far and away Portillo's stands alone at the top. There's a reason Chicagoans who are transplanted all over the country wish that Portillo's would come to their city.

boyfriend: "have you ever had italian beef?" me: "no.. i don't think so..." so off we go for some delicious juicy greasy italian beef. and it was fantasmic! a nice large italian beef with spicy peppers on time. i'm in heaven and i'm drooling just thinking about it :] we split one (because we went to naf naf right before) but i totally could've eaten the whole thing by myself.

Amazing restaurant! Who'd think we are in the recession by being in there. Was there for lunch with our department and I think we all enjoyed our various lunches. We were all from out of town. It was a cold, rainy and dark day so felt like soup and sandwich: I had fish sandwich and soup. The fish sandwich was delicious and so was the minestrone.

I have gone there a couple of times. The first time I went , as I was walking in, this huge tour bus pulls up. Then this swarm of college football players from the Quad city area ascended on this place. So it isn't fair to review based on that. However I was quite impressed that they had that whole football team served in less than 15 minutes. I mean they were quick. That experience didn't deter me from going back. I have gone back. I get the cheeseburger. I think it is really good. My husband gets the hot dog combo. MY mom always orders one of the soups. Well even the kids get something , my daughter likes their mac and cheese. Enjoy!!

One of the huge Portillo's that includes a Barnelli's. Pick a line. Barnelli's is the spaghetti, ceasar salads, etc. The antipasto salad is pretty good, I shake the oil off my fork, but that's ok. This location has a giant dining room that is full on the weekends. The drive-through can take 15 minutes at night. If you've never been to Chicago, Portillo's is the place for hotdogs.

  • Nelson S.

Portillo's is a Chicago staple. If you have never had a Chicago dog, this is a great place to get one. This is usually what I get when I come but the other selections are good too, like the Italian Beef & Burgers. Barnelli's has a great chopped salad. Remember, never and I mean never put ketchup on a chicago dog, that is unless you are a Commie, then put as much red tape on it as you want.

  • Kerri F.

Oh man, too die for! My favorite is the Italian beef but many people like the hot dogs as well. The chopped salad is amazing! My son's favorite is the chocolate cake. If you are coming in from out of town you have to go!

I stopped by at 9 pm for dinner. As always it was packed. The staff seemed a little flighty which is highly unusual. Portillo's was recently sold after Dick Portillo ran the company with an iron fist for several decades. I think I miss that part. I am also disappointed by the lack of nutritional information anywhere. We all know that it is calorie rich. Just show us the truth. Also, I ordered a chopped salad with extra bacon (minus cheese and onion) and was charged a whopping $1. That's a bit ridiculous.

    (4)
  • Stephen B.

So I thought, "Haven't had a chop salad in a while." Service was great and fast as always. Food is still ok but, now you get less dressing. I forgot this until I got back to my office. Silly to go back just for extra dressing. But it left the otherwise perfect salad lacking. So instead of raising the price of the salad, they give you less and don't tell you. I am shocked. This was never the Portillo's way. What idiot changed this? And why not tell me so I can order additional dressing? Oh wait, it must be an additional charge to get what used to be included?

If you find yourself waiting in the long line of "Sheeple" outside or inside of a Portillos.Do yourself a favor drive a quarter mile directly east on Jefferson. If you get lost poke your head out the window and smell the strong scent of a Wood Pit BBQ. As you get closer the aroma will get really strong and just take over your steering wheel and all your windows may start to roll down to engulf your car in the undeniable scent that is "GEMATOS" Thank me later.

This is my favorite Portillo's in the Chicagoland area. No matter how busy they get the service is always friendly and fast, whether it's dining in or popping through the drive-thru. I'm also a super fan of Barnelli's Pasta Bowl, so gotta love that this location is a combo with my ultimate Portillo's favorites. My go-to items are as follows... Chopped Salad (Barnelli's): Absolutely amazing. Get the dressing on the side. This salad is big enough to split for sure! It also comes with a poppy seed muffin :) Friend fries: Always. My fave fries ever. Perfect texture - crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Ketchup cups galore. Hot dog: With everything on it. You're not a Chicagoin if you don't like a Portillo's hot dog. Cheeseburger: With everything on it. I have not figured out what it is about these damn burgers, but they're amaze. They aren't the thickest, juiciest burgers I've had, but they have me comin' back for more. Maybe it's the poppy-seed bun? Chocolate cake shake: Heaven in a cup. I of course am obsessed with the chocolate cake itself, but if you can add in some extras and drink it on the go - why not? This is literally the best dessert ever. Mind you, it's probably about 1,000+ cals, so maybe don't indulge in one of these bad boys too often.

TWO-ONE-FOUR, WAIT NO MORE. Very clever way of calling out your number to pick up your food! They don't do it for every number/not all the number callers do it so you should feel lucky if you get a rhyme with your food. Awesome staff! I don't really like the Chicago style hot dog but their Italian beef are BOMB! I always get it with the sauce on the sauce so I can dip as I eat and prevents the sandwich from getting soggy. If you like sausage, you can get their combo where they put a sausage in the Italian beef sandwich, too. It is a bit greasy though so don't eat this too much!

This is the food of heaven and the best food in Chicagoland. Whatever you order is amazing, especially Chicago style hot dogs, burgers, and Italian beef. However, I'm only giving four stars because if you are ordering your meal to go then be prepared to wait a significant amount of time.

The best Portillos, but it's always packed. The drive thru has a constant line. And there are two lanes! But the food is conistently good. Barnellis offers different food items (Chicken Portabella and Chicken Panini) that most other Portillo's don't offer.

I LOVE Portillo's! I just moved to Chicago from Pittsburgh, and never had an Italian Beef before..definitly one of my favorite sandwiches...ever! I get it with the grilled onions on top and a side of cheese fries, fantastic!

Nothing better than a Portillo's Italian Beef, cheese fries and a large root beer!! It's always the first place I stop to eat when heading back to Chicago!

Great spot for a hot dog in the burbs. The drive thru is one of the most efficient I have ever experienced.

boyfriend: "have you ever had italian beef?" me: "no.. i don't think so..." so off we go for some delicious juicy greasy italian beef. and it was fantasmic! a nice large italian beef with spicy peppers on time. i'm in heaven and i'm drooling just thinking about it :] we split one (because we went to naf naf right before) but i totally could've eaten the whole thing by myself.

Im a sucker for the polish and fries. Noting more to say. LOL, the drive thru is super crazy in the summer and winter I guess. I feel like it needs to expands for all the business that it acquires on a daily basis. I have nothing negative to say about this place. I love portillo.
