One of the all-time great dive bars. Amazing, seriously, AMAZING burgers. I don't know how they get them to taste they way they do, but my dad's been a customer since before I was born, and they've ALWAYS been this damn good. Get a bag of Jays chips to go with it, play some bumper bowling in the back, and grab a cold brew, 'cause you're gonna wanna stick around for a little while. It does attract a little low-class crowd, though (drunk at 1 in the afternoon isn't my thing) but everybody's friendly and fairly helpful. TV's a bit unpredictable so if you like watching while eating, good luck. Go there at least once, at least for the burger.

Just spoke with Barry and he assures me the bar will be opening soon. If you know Barry there were a few puns included that wouldn't be appropriate to post here. Can't wait! Freeh's burgers are fantastic and the atmosphere is even better!

I drove by the bar today.,....haven't been there in a few months.....and there were 'sorry, we're closed' signs in the windows. Have they closed their doors for good? Does anyone know????? The phone just rings and rings....no answering machine.

So I bellied up to Freehs because I had been informed that they had the best burger in the south burbs and being the ninja that I am I just had to check it out. Now I don't know if I would really call this a dive bar. More like someones basement with the old bar set you would sneak down with your friends and nip in the parents booze. I arrived around 730 PM. to a warm greeting by the bartender. There were about four people in the bar and they were all obviously regulars. I asked what was on tap and he went through the extensive list of selections.....Miller High Life and Miller Lite. I choose the later as the lesser of two evils although between the two its like choosing the tallest midget for your basketball team. The bar was clean and the beer was cold. I ordered my burger with everything and it came from the kitchen in about 15 minutes on wax paper, in a red basket with a bag of chips. One bite and I knew why they have such a great reputation. The burger was fresh, hot and moist. Cooked to perfection and I really enjoyed it. There was a perfect amount of salt and pepper and it was nice and thick. I normally go with fries because I am a potato addict but it wasn't offered and to tell you the truth I really didn't miss them. All total I spent 6bucks on a cold one and a great burger which isn't bad at all. I know the new thing in the south burbs is the number guys burger but this one beats them out hands down. If only it was BYOB so that I could bring in some REAL beer !!!

One of the best burgers in Cook county. True this is an easily over looked establishment, but it has a colorful history and great lunch specials. I really enjoy the burgers here because they are chargrilled, juicy and real tasty beef. Not a skinny burger all grey and gross, this thing is thick and cooked to order. Served with chips and a pickle spear in a basket. I know this burger would be easily $10 in Chicago its so so good. Waaay better than any chain burger from the golden arches to RR and everywhere in between. The only rivals in the south suburbs may be Fudd's and/or Schoops' but each place does it differently. Freeh's is best bang for the buck hands down.

Awesome place! Great hamburgers! Their blue cheese burger is way better than anything at Five Guys! Tends to have an older crowd. I wish a few more young people would visit the bar. The atmosphere is great, they have a bunch of large screen TV's and they always have the top sports teams playing.

UPDATE 6/27/13 BACK OPEN AGAIN -- SAME GREAT OLE....COME ON DOWN. UPDATE: Freeh's has been closed since first week in May -- much to the dismay of their regulars. this week (May 16?) a sign was added saying "reopening soon" all blinds are drawn, and word on the street is that the owner is deciding whether to carry on or not....bar can't be resold without bringing it up to code, (handicapped accessible) so we can only hope the owner feels the love and re-opens the dive doors! Love the burgers (chips, no fries) at this little hole-in-the-wall. Steps from the metra electric, it's the perfect meeting (or dropping off point) when friends from chicago brave a ride to the south burbs. Good juke box, good bartenders (who tend to be there whether it's their shift or not) , pint draft beers and made-to-order burgers in a basket are their calling cards. (The kitchen hours just changed, with a cut off of 8:00 p.m., i believe during the week.) If you remember the first Freeh's you are officially old, as this one's been there for years and years and YEARS. It's in a charming little old downtown (my chicago friend just moons after the eternally for sale old bank building next door which wold make an uber-cute loft space if anyone that hip wanted to live down here (and fight for the zoning variance that would require.) anyway, this is a dependable, nothing fancy, diverse crowd-drawing neighborhood joint where you can't go wrong. They watch the usual sports -- but if there are no sports on anything goes -- including Stooge-a-palooza and Son of Svenghoulie, so be warned. Only downer - they are closed on Sundays unless the Bears play.
