I highly recommend Whistler's restaurant. The food is great! The staff is so friendly and welcoming that they create such a great environment for the restaurant. You can tell they want to be there and serve their guests with such great attitudes. The two owners Sophie and Chris and their daughters who help out are so kind. I always bring family and friends here whether it's for breakfast or a late meal considering the place is 24 hours. Awesome food awesome service what more can you ask?!

Chicago - my beloved roots, my home, my grandeur. Going to Whistler's on Sunday and ordering the Cream of Chicken soup is still stuck in my head. The fresh bread served upon arrival is always welcoming. The decor is nothing that would make you say "ohhh la la", but it is cozy. Great for lunch with the friends and family.

Over priced, the food was bland and the service just as bland.

I don't think this restaurant gets enough credit. It's just a diner! Albeit with a Jewish/Greek twist. The restaurant is open 24/7, and the menu is huge. You can order breakfast anytime. I ate a turkey sandwich, and it was really good - not the storebought bagged turkey, but sliced-from-a-roasted-turkey. Mmm. My boyfriend ate their corned beef hash and really liked it. They have good bagels and breads. Their matzo ball soup was very tasty. The servers were very friendly and eager to please, and my water and coffee cups were never empty. We never had to ask for anything. Sure, the decor is not much to look at, but again, it's a diner! The customers are diverse, and there is a wide variety of menu items. They have a lot of tables, too. We went on a Saturday morning, and there was absolutely no wait. There was plenty of parking in the parking lot, too. Another added bonus? It's close to the Lincolnwood mall, and Home Depot is right across the street. Update: I ate here again recently - again, the service was terrific, we sat right down, and the food was fabulous. However, I did realize that the prices are a bit high compared to our diners, e.g., $9.45 for a Whistler delight sandwich with soup, french fries, and a pickle. But I would point out the the sandwich is HUGE and the soup is enormous.

Very friendly staff. This is your typical family restaurant, but is very clean and the food is very good at a decent price. The French fries are always done just how I like them.

Great spot to sit down get a great bowl Of soup and enjoy a nice family atmosphere with a continuing clientele coming back daily to see Sophie D! Great menu, my favorite is the open faced chicken pita with cheddar bacon.... Yum! It's one of the only family owned 24 hour diners around and I am all about supporting family businesses! Go in and see Sophie she will always be there to great you and chit chat

My fiancé and I have been coming to whistlers for a while. Used to be in the neighborhood that we used to live in so it was very convenient, as well as the long hours. He has been coming there since he was kid and always enjoyed it along with his family. Whenever we go he gets the same thing-which is the breaded pork tenderloin with gravy and carrots and mashed potato. The sweet and sour cabbage soup is also really good. I always order the Belgian waffle but sometimes when I'm craving something else and even if it's not on the menu (and it's a pretty big menu) I've had the cook prepare it for me they're so down to earth, there. Love whistlers and will continue going there!

You know that diner, that has everything and can be relied on for a perfect breakfast every time? Well, this is it. My husband and I have been coming here 2 or 3 times a month and I finally realized how much I really enjoy it. I switch off between the perfect cheese blintzes, the crunchy, satisfying, waffles or the too big, omlettes. My husband eats french toast, sausage and eggs every time, but it's so good, and he's fussy. The service is always great too! Their coffee is uninspired, but they keep it coming, hot and fresh. I have been there for lunch and the corned beef sandwich is good, and the matzah ball soup is soul satisfying.

So, you are feeling peckish, it's 3am and Taco Bell is now closed. What to do? Go to Whistlers! I've been there and done that and was happy with the result. As you can tell from the other reviews, it is your standard diner, open 24 hours. They've got a HUGE menu with all the usual food you'd expect as well as some unusual regional specialties. I found the service to be lightning-fast, efficient and friendly. Breakfast is served all day, and they have a lot of ice-cream based desserts, like shakes, sundaes, banana splits and even phosphates. There is also a rather large selection of cocktail choices. The roasted meats/chicken are particularly good. I would recommend trying the house specialties, if you are really hungry. Now, when you look at the prices, you might find them a bit higher, than say, Denny's, but unlike Denny's, you won't be sick afterward. Also, the portions are extremely generous! Two weeks ago, the hubby and I felt in the mood for breakfast, so we stopped in. I had the Cherry Kijafa Crepes, because they looked interesting. They were HUGE. Think three crepes about the size of a large burrito, filled with awesome tart cherry filling (full of sliced cherries). I ended up taking half the meal home and having it for breakfast the next day. They were excellent even after being in the fridge overnight. My hubby went with more traditional breakfast and was hard put to finish his meal. The decor is nothing special, but if you want some good food, even at the wee hours of the morning, this is the place to go.

Awesome 24/7 diner! We live right around the corner so it's so convenient. Being that we are lazy people of course. It's weird that I didn't see any wraps on the menu, usually diners have them :( ... But none the less the 1/2 ribs with 1/4 chicken combo was just marvelous. The chicken was extremely juicy, I didn't taste one dry piece, and the ribs ... Don't even get me started. It's so good I think my eyes rolled to the back of my head. Definitely a place to try if you haven't! And I'm from New York, the diners are like unlimited out there and this is one of the better diners I've had. Edit: we are here for the 3rd time and man I'm still in love with this place. I actually tried the shrimp teriyaki this time and holy moly that was some bomb ass rice and shrimp!!! Ugh I'm so sad I have to leave this place cause I won't be able to eat this amazing food anymore, amazing patient and nice service; if you haven't eaten at this place give it a try because honestly nice service like this is extremely hard to come by and to add on the marvelous food.

Always a good staple when you need a 24-hour restaurant that serves a consistently good breakfast. Especially like their scrambled eggs, lox and onion with a toasted bagel with cream cheese and endless delicious coffee. Easy lot parking and no waiting.

Truthfully, when I lived in the City, I was a regular. I had totally forgotten about Whistler's but when I had to meet halfway between the City and my home, I found Whistler's again. Our party of five met here for lunch---mostly BIG eaters. I was pleasantly surprised at the large menu and the good prices. And, the food was excellent, portions generous...and they even had kishke! Will return again for sure.

The sweet and sour cabbage soup is to die for. The staff become like family really fast. This place needs to be more recognized. A+ especially for picky eaters. You'll find something you love, no doubt. They make accommodations and always put the customer first.

Mediocre service, bad food and very dated decor. Waitstaff is unevenly experienced and poorly trained. Some are mildly attentive and others are completely aloof. Not killer if the food was good, but the food is on occasion inedible. Anything but breakfast is plain awful. But that said, breakfast has lots of problems. The pancakes are extremely dense and flavorless. My guess is that the person that cooks them realy doesnt like pancakes. Other breakfast problems include overly buttered everything and meats that dont taste fresh. The bread I was served was old. Probably because there were few customers. A place like this would benefit immensely from a small menu. However, in the tradition of yesteryear, you can order one of over a hundred dishes (at your own peril). Yes, this place is as geriatric as its clients.

Good ham... good eggs... good sausage... good coffee... friendly-but-not-too-friendly service with a smile... now, imagine all that in a comfortable dining room with ample parking -- 24 hours a day 365 days a year... that's Whistler's Restaurant!

Came in restaurant was empty @ 430pm Host/owner (guessing) was more interested in watching tv than to greet and seat me. Got a seat and waited a little over 5 minutes before busboy brought over some water and offer coffee. Waited about 5 more minutes for a drip of a waitress to take more order. I ordered a Denver omelette with panckakes and well done hashbrowns. Order came out in a normal time, took a lookat my omelette and notice it was drenched in cooking oil. This usually happens from pan not being hot enough and then eggs absorb the oil. The hashbrowns could only be described as looking old, not well done as ordered and full of oil like the omelette. Waste of money and will not return

I've mostly eaten breakfast at Whistlers, at traditional morning breakfast time and late at night. I've never been disappointed. The food is nothing fancy, but it is well-prepared and reasonably priced, portions are generous, the waitstaff is friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is clean and spacious. There's also a parking lot and I've never had to wait for a table. All in all, a good place to go if you want workmanlike food without any fuss. It's a good place to go with kids, as they won't have to be impatient standing in line and the food generally comes quickly.

I've been here a few times after midnight because it's a great spot when you want a good meal that late. I've had the omelettes, pancakes, waffles, and grilled cheese from here. Let me start by saying, the grilled cheese is one of the best I've had at any restaurant. The waffles a la mode came with plenty of ice cream, whipped cream, and hot fudge. I'm always satisfied with my meal each and every time I come here. The service is usually pretty good and they make sure to get your orders right if you've made any substitutions. The most recent time I went here the waitress was superb. All in all, the food is definitely great if you're looking for a meal after midnight and with their superb service. I will continue going here and definitely recommend it to people.

Met a friend for breakfast here. We thought you can't go wrong with a family diner type of place. The food was horrible. I took two bites or my potato pancakes and didn't touch it after that. They advertised donuts and then the waitress came back and said no they don't serve donuts. My friend got fried eggs and hash browns. She wasn't impressed either. Save your money and go to McDonalds instead.

Very big menu with a great variety of food. I started coming here when I was a kid, which means it's been here for a long time. Good burgers and sandwiches. A longstanding restaurant in the Lincolnwood/Chicago neighborhood.

Place has a rather large menu. Sweet n sour cabbage soup is to die for (well a figurative death)! ;-) I wen there a few times a few years back and I seem to remember ordering the Sophie's Choice Chicken and Spaghetti meal that comes with a Massive coating of garlic. Was very good, along with the S&S Cabbage Soup. When I'm in the 'hood, I'll be back. And with this review I made it past 100 reviews! Wow, I need a more fulfilling hobby, Ha!

Came here with my family for a thanksgiving dinner. Had a leg of lamb and it was really good. My mom and grandfather got the turkey dinner, witch was pretty good. And my moms hubby got a Reuben, they didn't toast the bread so it became a sloppy wet sandwich. The service was great. The food came out really quickly. I wasn't even half way done putting sugar in my coffee, when the soup came out... N about half way through my soup the food came out. The waitress was actually entertaining n genuinely friendly n nice. If the price was all cheaper I would have given a 5 star. So food was good Service was great, accurate, fast and friendly Only downfall is the the price was a bit high. But I'm a cheap guy so might just be me lol

This top-notch American-style diner is open 24/7. For sure the best quality option for breakfast on the way home from a zero-dark-thirty airport run from Evanston. If you're here for lunch, don't miss the matzo ball soup, which contains one single softball-sized matzo ball.

This as diner as one can get for the scarce restaurant area it's in on Devon. Huge plus is that it's open in the wee hours for a late night or early morning waffle indulgence. The food is what you should expect for moderately priced diner where it's specialties are really on the breakfast side. Omelettes are generous, hash browns are tasty, and the coffee is always bitter. Personnel have been there for a whole so it's a familiar place that will get to know their locals. Anything beef related isn't so great, but again, it's a diner and expect that. Bathrooms are always a crapshoot (pun intended) staff is attentive, and it's very family friendly with halfway decent pricing for the portions they serve.

The food is good and the staff is fantastic! I highly recommend coming here. I usually come here after work very late at night and I'm always happy. They make the best split pea soup. :-)

Just finished my take out corned beef on rye deluxe, which came with a large soup, bialey and fries. The sandwich was loaded with lean corned beef, the bread was super fresh, the bialey was the best and the soup, minestrone was very good. I had hoped that they would have my favorite soup, lentil. When I mentioned how disappointed I was that they did not have the lentil today the woman, I think the owner, told me to let her know when we would be in again and she would be sure to have it on the menu. Great place open 24 hours, with a big parking lot next door. There are reasons this place has been here for years. Will be in again soon for the lentil soup.

Nice coffee shop atmosphere with an extensive menu. I met someone here for breakfast as it was a good midpoint location. I only had the oatmeal, but I have high standards for my oatmeal and it was thick and creamy, perfectly cooked. I would definitely come back here for breakfast.

No. Just no. But the people working there are sweethearts. They're amazing and friendly. If I were to ever step foot in there again, it would be to say hello to the staff! The food really isn't that bad, I just don't like the menu options. From what I have had there, their food seems good, but again, I just don't like that type of food.

This place is awesome! The service is great! My sis andI had really bad late night munchies and decided to come here for a good meal. Right when we got there we were offered coffee given a basket of bread and greeted by all the employees. Theres always a special and I love how patient the waiters are! The food portions are huge for a small price. Some people are saying to watch the price but you have to understand that when you accept their offers of coffee and a soup or salad they charge you a little extra. Took off a star because my pasta was a little plain but other then that I would completely recommend this place!

I'm shocked at the good reviews for this place. The waitress and bus boy were great; everyone was very friendly. Unfortunately , that's where my positivity ends. Breakfast menu was very basic even though it seemed long...Lots of repeated choices, However, nothing that seemed inventive, interesting, or outside of what my grandfather would eat. I was hoping for a skillet or turkey bacon options, or something. The menu boasts "Oscar Mayer bacon! ". . I personally wouldn't choose to order anything knowing it's made by Oscar Mayer. First cup of coffee was barely warm. Food came out in 3 minutes flat. Hash browns were mushy and tasteless. Pancakes had weird consistency and " out of box" taste. Eggs were well cooked, toast almost burnt. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't inedible...just wasn't " good". Unfortunately, this place is close to our new house but we won't be back. There are much better breakfast options around.

As I write this, I am enjoying my leftovers from yesterday's lunch at Whistler's: stuffed pepper with real (not frozen) carrots and real potatoes on the side. I had eaten half of my serving at the restaurant as well as some of the leftovers at home last evening! This means three meals for the price of one. I returned today for lunch following a dental appointment in the vicinity, and had an excellent vegetarian omelet (baked, not fried) along with hash browns and pancakes. Both of these lunch specials came with soup and coffee, all for $9.95. I came home with leftovers again today, so I consider this a good value! (There is usually one $8.95 special, too.) But more than this, Whistler's offers a comfortable, clean, and versatile setting with friendly service. The central dining area offers tables and booths in addition to a breakfast bar, with two TVs for that "homey" touch; an adjacent room accommodates large groups. On the other side is a bar and additional tables. This dawn-to-dusk-to-dawn set-up is very appealing. Yesterday afternoon, I was doing some proofreading and basically "set up shop" in a cozy booth. The waitress commented favorably on my book stand, and the coffee servers cheerfully refilled my cup. I felt no pressure to "hurry up and finish eating" (although I was there in the mid-afternoon, after the lunch rush). Today, the same waitress thoughtfully packaged my uneaten pancakes (along with butter and syrup) so I could taken them home. I have one meal a day "out" and have a special affinity for Greek-diner-type places. I recently returned to S&G on Lincoln Ave., and was rudely disappointed when the manager had an argument with me over a political issue. Not long ago, I met a friend at Sanders, and was appalled at the high prices. Whistler's is fast becoming my diner-of-choice (although I had brunch at The Bagel in Old Orchard this week, and I must say that I love that place--it's just too far from where I live). The 24/7 hours are a definite plus!

I really enjoy this place. They have a huge variety of menu items, daily specials, and my favorites: kreplach and matzo ball soup daily. The owners, the Chris Demas' are such friendly people and make you want to return there. This is, by far, the best "Greek-style" restaurant around!

I have been exploring other breakfast spots in Chicago recently and have not been to Whistlers in quite a while. Today I stopped in and now remember why I like this place. The waitress was one of their long term employees and remembered my family despite our long hiatus. The bus boy is an older latino guy that has worked there for probably 20 years, and made sure our table was kept neat and coffee cups filled. My daughter had a chicken philly sandwich which i tried and was very impressed. It was on a garlic sub bun that really added to the taste of the sandwich. I had the usual corned beef and swiss omlette, and It was great. Even better were the hash browns that were cooked perfectly and buttery delicious. Also... They have a huge parking lot! Chicago rapes drivers with insane street parking charges in commecial areas, so free off street parking is a huge bonus.

After a long night of karaoking, sometimes the late night hunger strikes and when that call of nature summons you into a late night diner, Whistlers is not a bad place to be! We walked into a mainly empty diner in the wee hours of the night. In the back were some Middle Easterners huddled around a table enjoying food and coffee. We were given menus and overwhelmed by the depth and scale. The breakfast menu contained a full arsenal of pancakes, corn beef hash, eggs, waffles, omelets. The menu selection was just dizzying, there were Monte Cristos,Steak Sandwiches, Shrimp, Pasta, Soups, Chicken Wings, Fish, and a world of other things to eat. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen dishes over $20 at a diner, but that's how deep the menu was. I opted for a bleu cheese burger (one of about a dozen burgers on their menu). On first bite, the flavor overwhelmed me and I found myself thoroughly satisified. The fries carry another layer of batter, resulting in pure greasy bliss. The soup was chicken noodle and reminded me of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup vs. say Progresso. I was hugely disappointed that this menu had no skillets! But the food I got was a hefty portion and was exceptionally delicious.

Post New Year's Eve party hunger pains were quickly eased at the Whistler's Family Restaurant. The friendly staff, quick service, and late night open doors made up for the sub-par food. SERVICE: Every staff member we interacted with was super friendly. From our server, to the coffee guy, to the busboy, each person spoke with warmth and welcome (despite the odd hour of 3am!). Food arrived SUPER fast. The one snafu in the positive-vibe was when we checked out. We wanted to pay individually and the lady at the register seemed a bit annoyed that our check was not broken down that way. Rather than simply asking us what we ordered, she called out our server from across the room to come over (to fix it while we watched). I personally feel she could have checked us out herself and reminded our server after we had left. PARKING LOT AND HOURS: Big parking lot and 24-hour service. Great! FOOD: * HOT CHOCOLATE - is YUM! Served in a cozy mug and topped with whipped cream. * STRAWBERRY CHEESE BLINTZ - DO NOT ORDER. The blintzes are tasteless wrappers shaped as egg rolls filled with chewy cottage cheese. (I was expecting a soft sweet crepe filledwith cream ricotta and cream cheese.) The warm strawberry compote was good. * FETA AND SPINACH OMELET - Feta crumbles overpower the omelet, resulting in an odd texture and overly salty taste. BATHROOM: There stalls are WAYYYYY too narrow. I could barely fit in there to close the door! When you finally manage to fit yourself in, the door is so close its almost touching your knees.

Salami is now a breakfast food. Try one of their omelette's with some American cheese, and fried salami inside. Unhealthy, yes, tasty, even more so. And I knew I wanted to try some potato pancakes, but really didn't want a whole order of five. So I asked it I could substitute one pancake for my order of hash browns. They had no problem with it. The potato pancakes were as close to the ones my mother used to make; in other words, frigging delicious!!! The food was good, and our server was a sweet older woman who kept our coffee cups full, and the building itself is older but very clean (decor in pink and green- there must be a family restaurant decoration outlet somewhere- because every family restaurant I've ever been in are in the same color scheme.) filled at all times. The only problem are the prices. Way, way too high for simple breakfast foods. My aforementioned omelet was almost nine dollars by itself. It was good, but not worth the price.

Okay- I swore that I would never go here. It looks like Senior a go go. My mother forced me to meet her there. The place looks very outdated. BUT- the service today was soooooooo good. I ordered the fruit plate and LOVED it! The fruit was fresh and tasted so yummy! The owner is so nice and will help seniors with the door or calling pace bus for them. My lunch was very special cause my mom treated me and I got to see her! Go There and ENJOY!

This is a 24 hour diner like none you are used to take Denny's and Shari's and add in Greek food and Kosher food so it is like 3 am on a week night I get home and the BF has fallen a sleep so there is no dinner, so I am like there's a 24 hr diner on Devon lets go get a bite to eat it will take just as long as cooking but we won't have dishes to wash when we get there the place is full of a group of men speaking in Greek, and we are seated right away, we order some drinks and check out the huge menu they serve all of it all the time, so it was hard to decide breakfast or something from the dinner menu we got some Matzo soup the broth was good and the Matzo was huge just needed a pinch of pepper I got there version of a Philly Cheese sammich it was tasty and filling no room for any dessert

Open 24-hours and better than Denny's or the Golden Nugget. Service is great considering most of the patrons are young, drunk and uhh-noying. Try the sweet and sour cabbage soup... seriously. Many Chicagoans will swear that it's the best in the metro area. I'm not a cabbage soup aficionado by any means, but Whistlers makes a mean version. Get it with a grilled cheese sandwich and bring on the coma.

2 stars for being open late. Waltzed in with my brother at around 230am hoping for some late night good eats. I got the iron duke sandwich because it sounded awesome which was supposed to come with horseradish cream sauce. It came out as just cold cut roast beef on untoasted bread and some sliced white onions on top. I asked the waitress about it and she was clueless but said she would talk to the manager. She tells me she will take care of it and comes back with a side of cold unprepared horseradish. YUM My brother got some kind of burger and it was not horrible but very bland. Manager didn't even say goodnight or ask us how the meal was. She didn't seem to care or want to be there.

Tucked away behind a stretch of malls on Devon is a nice little diner called Whistlers. They are your typical Greek family owned diner, with a hostess stand at the front door next to a spinning pie case, and a jar of lollypops for the kids. It is clean and friendly and they serve breakfast all day. There is always ample parking and even when they are busy, the service is good and we are seated quickly. I had gone there a few times in the past and thought both the food and service were good. But because of their location, I would forget about them as an option sometimes. One key thing that didn't matter before I became pregnant with my second child, is that they are open 24 hours. This proved extremely helpful to me now since my 3am cravings were off the charts. One night, when I absolutely needed Eggs Benedict or I thought I would die, I remembered the Whistler, I called and they were open, so I placed an order to go, left a note for my husband and slinked out of the house in my pjs covered by my winter coat. I'm sure I looked crazy, but there at the hostess station was my order, piping hot, just the way I liked it with extra sauce and crispy American bacon instead of the Canadian type. And for 5 months, this would go on sometimes twice a week, at different times in the wee hours of the morning. On a few occasions, the hostess, whom I later found out was Sophia, tried to get to know me, I thought I could slip in and out unnoticed but I think they really like to try to get to know their regulars and I had become one. She inquired when I requested no bacon on my order once, I didn't think she would even notice that. I explained that all of the sudden this baby of mine decided she did not like bacon anymore. Gasp! Anyway, we chatted and my mysterious behavior and order was solved, pregnancy cravings. Yesterday, I had a rare moment to myself and I thought, I would go there, sit down and relax, since with a second child on the way, this luxury would soon be gone for awhile. Much to my surprise, there was Sophia, "oh my eggs benedict lady," she said. It was an off time, so she sat with me for a bit and asked how I was doing. She was so nice and considerate. I promised to bring in my daughter once she was born so she could meet her. After this wonderful experience, Whisters will be my first consideration when going out to a restaurant. The food and service is great (and consistent), the prices are reasonable, they have ample parking, they are kid friendly and I've inadvertently become a known regular.

I ended up at Whistlers when maintenance work on our bathroom required us to go somewhere. We were looking for a different diner and the car started to overheat to we turned onto Damen and saw a diner across the street form and Autozone. I tend to be pretty harsh on diners- very very few measure up to Waffle House and this one was no exception. If I had to guess I'd say that everything served comes out of a big white Sysco box or can. Prices were a little high for a diner and the diet Coke a little flat. Service was quite lovely however. Perhaps the big basket of old rolls is a custom we can learn to live without?

I can't believe I have never reviewed Whistler's! I've been eating here for years! It's a solid little restaurant, made even better by newer waitress Celena (I believe she told me her name's spelling is with a "C", not an "S".) She is really sweet and the main busboy, Jose, is really nice too. He is more than a busboy -he is a true customer service professional. He is always on hand with a smile to make sure you feel welcome and you get that cup of coffee when you need it. He doesn't speak or understand too much English, but I love that he tries. You can see his personality light up even more when there is a Spanish speaking table -then he really gets the conversation going! Everyone I've ever encountered there is super nice -I usually go for breakfast, but I believe they are open 24 hours for you late night folks!

If you are tired of the fancy schmancy restaurants and you are craving a taste of grandma's comfort food, this is the place to come. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. I went there for breakfast with a friend and we got corned beef hash omelette and eggs florentine. The proportions were huge. The eggs were cooked perfectly and tasted like they should. My corned beef omelette had tender cuts of beef peppered throughout the eggs- really delish. I liked their hash potatoes as well. Usually at other places, the potatoes are too dry, almost burnt. Here, they were crispy yet tender. Let me rave about their wait staff. The waitress was sweet. She had a genuine smile on her face the whole time. She was great. The busboy made sure to keep our water filled and the plates cleared as needed. Really good staff! Bottom Line: Good wholesome and delicious food, great service , great wait staff, clean, comfortable, open all the time.

I love this place....reminds me of Omega on Golf.....great, old-time Greek owned kind of diner with that HUGE menu that you have to look at for an hour because it's late at night and you're starving and everything looks good. I had a perfect grilled cheese, and my husband had a YUMMMMMMY greek omelette. portions are HUGE and the omelette came with PANCAKES too?!?! Heaven. We'll definitely be back.

My friends and I were looking for a place to cure our hangover and Whistler's was nearby. There was a large group of us so it was great that the staff was so accommodating. Pretty happy that there was free wi-fi too. I ordered the cream of chicken and rice soup and it hit the spot. I only give this place 3 stars though because I was not impressed by the fried egg and bacon sandwich. The bacon was undercooked and there really was no taste.

I've been coming to Whistler's since i was a whee folk (youngin, kidlet, smallun, etc). I used to always get the Lox and Bagel, which was almost just like my grandpa made it (but did fall a little short). However, that was in the 80s. Things could have changed. In more recent years, I've enjoyed their omlets (served any time). They're big and tasty. Nothing too special but for a lot of food that isn't nasty, it hits the spot. The other day Mom and I were craving some matzoball soup, so we each got a bowl and split a chef's salad. We did carry out, the service was quick and friendly. Whistlers is a good family restaurant in my book.

Good food with low prices?? WTF is that dude smoking.. Golden Nugget is low. Here they are more expensive than Bakers Square. The food is just OK, well better than Golden Nugget, but, they don't have "Huevos Rancheros" Burgers are good, opt for a burger with more toppings. The meat doesn't have much taste, additional toppings and cheese compliment it. Gyros suck. Breakfast is pretty good. Soup is just.. eh. Had a bowl of Chicken noodle. The bowl was freakin' full of thin noodles, no chicken or any other ingredient found. No clue if chicken stock was in it... maybe just bouillon cubes. And when your drunk, bouillon cubes are good on their own. I'm glad that times have changed for Whistlers, and it only took two decades. I was talking with my Ma about eating here the other day and she reminded me of the reason why we stopped eating here when I was a kid, the flashback was haunting, you try to forget shit sometimes. It was the very first time as a family we entered the restaurant, basically, we were ignored and weren't offered a table on a not busy afternoon. Sucks when that shit happens in your own neighborhood. Well, I was in there the other day ordering takeout. The host, an older gentleman maybe in his 60's, was polite and quick to have someone take care of my order. Times have changed. Good thing. Eggs Benedict.. just OK. Hollandaise sauce.. could be better. Benedict on takeout blows, have it at the restaurant.

One of our esteemed reviewers gave this joint 4 stars becuase they said it's a great place to be alone. I must contest this point as my coffee was empty MOST of the time I was there. If they would give larger than standard diner coffee cups I wouldn't need a refill every 5-10 minutes but as they do not supply larger coffee cups I would expect they would be on top of refilling my cup :-/ Besides that the menu seemed standard but the prices were way too high for the quality and amount of food received. I had 2 eggs, corned beef hash, hash browns, and pancakes w/ coffee. I believe with tax my meal was about $9. At the pancake house around the corner from my apartment I'd pay $6.50-$7.00 for the same amount and better quality of food. I'm guessing this wouldn't be too bad of a place after a long night on the town to soak up so beers but on any other occasion I'd stick to Annie's Pancakes in Skokie and wait the 25 minutes to get a table.

Food okay but watch your bill! I order the same thing every time and never pay the same. Today was an over kill but I didn't notice until I checked my account. My normal meal of corned beef hash and eggs with a side of bacon was $12.26. Last week I paid $8.59.

I typically visit Whilstlers very early in the morning for a quick bite to eat. Even on the weekends you won't find much of a drunk crowd hitting the place up for some eggs and bacon after a night drinking which is nice when you are sober. Other than that the food is ok they have a huge menu so some things are better then others. I am a lover of chopped liver (my grandma use to make it growing up) and theirs was horrible!! Their sandwich's aren't bad and their cabbage soup is good. I would stay away from their chicken based soups its like drinking a bowl of salt. Breakfast foods are good. The staff is usually very friendly and keeps our water cups full and makes sure we are well taken care of. Other than that I'll keep going back because its really the only place that's open that early in the morning. Oh and meals can get a bit pricey.

I've been going to Whistler's with my family for longer than I can possibly remember. This is due in part to three things: Its location, its enormous menu (my brother is to this day the pickiest eater I know) and its soups. Do not go if you're looking for gourmet. This is diner food, but it's diner food at its best. There's never a wait for a table, and they have everything from salads and sandwiches to Italian and Greek. They also start you off with a heaping basket of bialeys and onion rolls which is, to me, one of the most comforting sights in the whole world. They have a different soup du jour every day (as would be implied) but they also always have chicken soup with noodles, rice, matzoh balls, or kreplach. Service is very quick and friendly. To the guy who made a quip about the waitresses and their eyeliner: I fail to see the relevance. Many of these waitresses have been serving there for years, and they always treat us like family, which is just so much more important. Their vegetable soup is seriously the best I've ever had, and their navy bean is like their vegetable soup, but thicker. The cream of chicken rice is a Sunday staple at Chicago diners, and at Whistler's it is rich and wonderful. Also try: the hot turkey sandwich, club sandwich, any of the daily dinner specials. Also, bonus! Breakfast all day. Their spinach and feta omelette is awesome. So, if I'm so infatuated with the place, why'd I knock off a star? First of all, because they raised their prices last year and it's starting to get a little ridiculous for diner food (but still not out of my price range). Second, when you walk in, they have all these beautiful cakes spinning in a display case. Resist the urge. They're pretty awful, either stale or wet or soaked with unidentifiable liquor. Stick with the rice pudding. Mmm, rice pudding...

Pros: 24/7 even holidays free wifi decent coffee relatively fresh and well-prepared foods Cons: Okay, don't even think about listening to the reviewer who said the cabbage soup could be the best around. No way. The cabbage is rubbery, the broth is way too sugary and they don't serve it hot enough. Get your s&s cabbage at either The Bagel or What's Cooking. The waitresses could easily star in a Dawn of the Dead remake. Wow -- how many pounds of eyeliner can one face carry? (this could be in my pro's as well -- for the ent. value) The bussers will come up and vacuum while your eating. Right next to you. So close that you can smell that vacuum-y bag smell. Why 4 stars: Because this place is the perfect setting for grading papers, drinking java and being left alone.

I'm not a big fan of this place, but my father swears that they have the best pork chops in the city. The owners and waitresses are very friendly, though. One time, I got egg salad that was completely disgusting (to me, anyway). The waitress allowed me to replace the egg salad with chicken salad at no added charge! I thought that was extremely nice of her as I really had no reason to send the food back, except that I thought there was too much celery in it! If you're a fan of the sweet and sour cabbage soup, try it out here! One of the best in the city.

I had a pretty good meal here last night. I was tempted to give four stars, but time has shown that Whistler's can be pretty good or pretty awful. Let me put it this way; it wouldn't surprise me if I went back today and got a lousy meal. The chicken soup is great; it comes in a variety of ways (kreplach, matzo, etc.). A bread basket comes with some excellent bialys. Salads are huge and come with plenty of dressing on the side (THANK YOU!), but it's mostly iceberg lettuce. Mains are the typical Don's/Restaurant Depot dishes, though they are executed nicely. Desserts are good; I appreciate the fact that they put fresh whipped cream and cinnamon on my rice pudding. Service is better than you'd expect from this type of place. Plates were promptly cleared and my drinks were refilled in a timely manner. Pricing can seem a little high, but it's great portions and a good value. Whistler's is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, though it's a bit of a misnomer because they were closed for about three years for reasons I still don't know. I can remember when they first opened, and boy, does that make me feel old. They are back to being a 24 hour place, there have been times when they weren't. I have had some great meals, and there have been times I'd swear I'd never return. I won't rate them higher because of my uneven experiences. It's been over a year since my last visit, although I had no reason to avoid them. This last meal was good enough for me to place Whistler's in my regular rotation. Whistler's is not a destination place, but it's a nice option (especially late at night) to keep in mind when you're hungry.

I was EXREMELY torn on if I should give this place two or three stars. I was feeling generous tonight and decided to go with three. I am glad that I let my thoughts rest in my head a few days before i wrote this review. I am thinking that If I would have wrote it that night, I would have given it two stars. The food was good here. It was not the best I have had by far but it was definately good. Unfortunately it was not good enough to justify the prices. The prices here are far more expensive than any other family type restaurant that I have patronized. With the prices, I was expecting the food to knock me off of my feet. It was good but not that good. Our waitress really annoyed the hell out of me. She was not friendly in the least and really made me feel like an intrusion on her. In addition to her attitude, teh way she just barked out orders to all of he busboys really started to get on my nerves after a while. So why do i give this place three stars instead of two? The answer is location, location, location!!! This place is VERY close to where i work and when i am getting out of there late and I need some food this place is close by and is open 24 hours. Although i will NEVER become a regular here, I will be back simply as a matter of convienience.

I just went here for breakfast and it was OK. The food quality was good overall. Pretty much standard diner fare. I ordered the chicken rice soup and it was basically a bowl of rice in chicken broth. Not the hearty soup I had been hoping for. My grilled cheese was good (hard to f that up). My fries were fresh and not greasy. The service was kind of slow and we were the only people in the place! This place is 24 hours so I dare say I will be back one day after a hard nights drinking but for a sober brunch there are better options.

Open 24 this is just like a Denny's or an Ihop kind of diner place. It's pretty big and clean here so it's not a bad place to sit down and eat. They've got free wi-fi and the food is prepared fresh, not that it's the best quality in the world. I had an omelet with broccoli and cheese and I would not have it again. That was my first impression of the place and I only finished most of it because I was starving at the time when I came in. However I've been told that a lot of their food is pretty good so I'll be back to give it another shot and probably just order something different. I just found the omelet to be too fluffy and hard with not enough flavor and hardly any cheese.

Been there for breakfast a couple of times. Good parking and pleasant roomy interior. The waitress was very congenial -- I liked her. But she forgot my orange juice and I think she charged me for it -- couldn't read the scribbles and she had left shift. It was a good omlette anyway, and the coffee came plenty often. Did I get tricked into ordering a meal of pancakes, thinking it came with the omlette? Dunno. I can only guess that's why I seemed to pay for two meals. But here's the thing. The owner was rude to us twice, e.g., we asked to turn a 5 to 1s. The man had a stack, but bruskly "this is not a bank!" Sort of shoo, shoo out the door with you. What, did we stay and chat too long? But the place wasn't busy?! It's no way to treat customers and I don't think I'll go back.

i love whistlers. not because they have amazing food. but because it's just like a good home kinda diner to go to, at any time of the day or night. but really, i've only gone in at night. their menu has just about everything on it, which makes me wonder how the heck they can make everything 24 hrs, but i don't care. i ordered meatloaf at 11 o'clock at night once, and it was one of the best meatloafs i've ever had. their matzo ball soup is a must at all times. i've tried the sweet and sour cabbage soup, and it was good, but a little tooo sweet and sour for my taste. this place is just a cozy home away from home, and my bf and i always enjoy going here.

This restaurant blows. Don't get me wrong, back in the day it used to be good. Every Christmas and Easter after Midnight mass my friends and i would go here to eat because it is the closest restaruant to the church that is 24 hours. Back in the day it was good. Everytime we go there now, our food is cold, our waiters are assholes who screw up our orders, and it is too pricey for the quality of food you get! It is not all that, they couldn't even get my burger order correct okay!!? You call a soup water with a bunch of rice in it and few pieces of chicken. The atmosphere is kind of BLAH too. Honestly I haven't been there for years now. I would rather go to a Denny's and get a good burger over there!

This place deserves a 5-star rating. Every meal I have eaten at Whistler's has been superior. This is the only family style restaurant I know of which serves FRESH vegetables; not canned or frozen. The Grecian chicken, fried chicken, pork chops, salmon, and fish dinners are outstanding. Their soups, salads, and desserts are delicious, too.

I love meeting friend's at Whistlers for lunch! It's just outside my old West Rogers Park stomping grounds and the food is always good as is the service. It's never been an every week place for me, but when I'm meeting up with friends from high school, we typically stop in here with our kids and have a bite. Good salads, sandwiches, breakfasts, soups... no complaints, it's just a nice place to spend an hour eating good food.

Finding a decent 24-hour restaurant is a rarity in the Chicago area and this one isn't too far north. The food is no better or worse than most "Greek" diners. The menu is big and you will always get the complimentary bread basket. Whister's has been around forever and has a good reputation in the neighborhood. The restaurant was recently remodeled and there's plenty of free parking in their lot.

Meh. Tried it once, won't be going back. There are way too many better places in the neighborhood. My bacon cheeseburger was fine, except for the soggy bun. I'm not sure I've been to a sit-down restaurant that doesn't toast the buns to avoid sogginess. Fries weren't bad. My husband got the "fajita wrap"... on which they used Swiss cheese and a sauce that was sweet and more marinara-y than fajita-y. Overall, the food wasn't *bad* but it wasn't good either. The ambience, service, etc were about what you expect, it was really only the bleh food that will keep me from coming back.

Kind of cruddy Greek formula diner place. I have been here several times with firends and co-workers, and almost always they either make a mistake on the order or an item needs to be sent back. There are better places of this genre to be found elsewhere.

Chicago - my beloved roots, my home, my grandeur. Going to Whistler's on Sunday and ordering the Cream of Chicken soup is still stuck in my head.

Sweet n sour cabbage soup is to die for (well a figurative death)! ;-) I wen there a few times a few years back and I seem to remember ordering the Sophie's Choice Chicken and Spaghetti meal that comes with a Massive coating of garlic. Your typical Greek diner with too many choices on the menu. If you want good, fast breakfast without any thrills this is the place for you.

Kind of cruddy Greek formula diner place. I have been here several times with firends and co-workers, and almost always they either make a mistake on the order or an item needs to be sent back. There are better places of this genre to be found elsewhere.

A 24-hour restaurant perfect for that late-night drinking binge or the hangover the next morning. Menu options are plentiful and the price is very reasonable. Currently under renovation, will be opening up in the fall.

It's a good place to go with kids, as they won't have to be impatient standing in line and the food generally comes quickly.

i love whistlers. not because they have amazing food. but because it's just like a good home kinda diner to go to, at any time of the day or night. but really, i've only gone in at night. their menu has just about everything on it, which makes me wonder how the heck they can make everything 24 hrs, but i don't care. i ordered meatloaf at 11 o'clock at night once, and it was one of the best meatloafs i've ever had. their matzo ball soup is a must at all times. i've tried the sweet and sour cabbage soup, and it was good, but a little tooo sweet and sour for my taste. this place is just a cozy home away from home, and my bf and i always enjoy going here.

Came her for brunch w/ the family for some odd reason. Don't remember. But all in all, nice service, good breakfast and chill old school diner atmosphere.

The sweet and sour cabbage soup is to die for. The staff become like family really fast. This place needs to be more recognized. A+ especially for picky eaters. You'll find something you love, no doubt. They make accommodations and always put the customer first.
