Always come here for the $1 taco tues. The quality is consistent and their other menu items are good as well. Very friendly owner that is committed to guest satisfaction. Not the most "authentic" but still a very tasty spot. Some of the best homemade tortilla chips ever

My order is always wrong... I know the correct way to eat Mexican food is on corn tortillas but I don't care for them. I've learned to repeats several time I want flour flour flour and when I go to pick up my order and bring it home everything is corn!!!! It ruins my whole meal and on top of it they repeat my order back to me saying flour. It's also a little over priced to me just for simple Mexican food. I will say when I get my food on flour especially the chorizo tacos there so delish! They make their chorizo perfect! Not a fan of the quesadillas. Don't bother getting them. I had to pay extra for more green sauce when she said I can't get all green sauce that the order comes with red so if I want extra I have to pay a 1$! Not use to paying for extra green sauce. But there's is very very good. Also there salsa is watery and way way to much tomato in it. That's all I ever taste is the tomato. Yuckyy.

Best tacos! Really cheap!! Although the place is kinda grimy and the staff are not spectacular. But the food is totally worth it! Just wish they had take home menus!!!

This small place is very good. I had their soup special and a taco. Yum. The soup bowl was huge. I would go back again. Taco was good.

Great food, huge burritos. I almost always order to go, a little divy inside. Tortas we not my favorite, but the taco plate and enchiladas we also delicious.

Very underwhelmed by the food here. I went here For lunch cuz of good reviews but was disappointed. Salsa was really mild almost sweet. Wife thought they used canned tomatoes. There was no spice on either my tongue burrito or my wife's fish tacos. Won't be going here for Mexican again

Came here on Tuesday night with the family to try $1 taco tuesday based on ask the great reviews. Delicious tacos. I got 2 chicken tacos and 2 ground beef tacos. They reminded me of El famous burrito (another fantastic Mexican restaurant further east on rt 120 in Waukegan). My wife had the milanesa torta which was also amazing! Her torta was pretty big for the price. The kids had the kids quesadilla meal, which they both loved.

Not understanding the four stars. My husband had to get up and get napkins for us and no plates were brought for the chips and salsa, which tasted like bland, canned tomato sauce. The beans were runny and gross looking. The chicken burrito was okay, but also bland. They need to stop being afraid of salt and fresh ingredients.

Absolutely cannot beat the deal of $1 Taco Tuesdays. They tasted great and have kept me coming back, my go to taco joint is in the city so having this so close to home is great, not the same but definitely beats driving an hour just for some tacos.

The cocktail de ceviche appetizer is amazing!!! So good. The chicken tacos are shredded chicken. The salsa is also amazing!

Excellent food and service! We had a party of 12 that came in 20 minutes before closing and we were served promptly and courteously. The food is amazing!

You can clearly see by the average of 4 1/2 stars that it's good food. It's always good. Huge portions, low price. Idk why that place isn't ever packed. I usually go in and there's maybe one other table sat. The food is so good, it should be packed always. Excellent food!

Great quality food. I usually go every Tuesday but they said they ran out of $1 tacos which makes no sense. I am going to still go back but it was very annoying.

After about a year of looking for good Mexican food we stumbled upon this hidden gem. From the out side you might think twice about coming in. I know we did. However the food is AMAZING!!! We now eat here at least once a week. I guess it's time to start working out so I came here twice a week.

The food was the opposite of delicious. I had expected to have a decent dinner, but instead got a terrible meal. The service there also leaves much to be desired. I will not give my recommendation.

The food here is good. I haven't ventured and tried any seafood but as for everything else it was fresh! The salsa was kind of weak. I like bold flavors and it just lacked consistency . I'd give this place 4 stars but the inside makes me want to go back outside. I didn't get the main focal point in the restaurant ... Sea creatures at a Mexican restaurant ? Lol

This is a tiny Mexican restaurant on the corner of rt.45 and rt.120 by Walgreen's. I stumbled upon this place because I was on my way to class from work and my tummy was rumbling. So, I decided to stop by Subway. As I was walking into Subway, I saw Puerto Acapulco next door... with a daily special of $1 Tacos Tuesday! How could I pass?! So I decided to try it out. The second I walked in I was greeted by a very friendly lady who was telling me all about the best items on the menu. I asked if I could get the taco special for carry out and she was more than willing to do so. I ordered a chicken taco and a ground beef taco. They were a bit small but I got more than I paid for! I also ordered a tamale... everything was fantastic! The prices at Puerto Acapulco are all very reasonable and everything is cooked fresh to order. The restaurant itself could use some remodeling, but the food was so good I can overlook that! The friendly lady at the counter gave me a to go menu and told me to call ahead to place my order next time so I do not have wait.

Last week I visited, and remembered--the Horchata is amazing, very yummy and when they have flan--it's creamy & carmel combination is delicious. I love their daily specials. Usually I look for the owner, Candy, to chat and catch up, see how her mom is doing. this warm family restaurant is definitely my favorite. This is a divey place, but the food is worth it! There is a $10 minimum on credit card purchases.

Always fresh tortilla chips, great pico, and $1 taco Tuesday! Not the most fancy restaurant in town, but service is always good and so is the food.

Every time I have been here the place has been empty, not a single customer. The food is good so I keep coming back. The guacamole is really fresh. Prices are also very fair. I always get my food quickly.

Awesome authentic Mexican food. Love the burritos and tostadas! Little divey interior but we usually get it to go.

Wow. Some of the best strip mall Mexican I've had in a long time. I had one of the biggest burritos here and it was fantastic. Excellent food and great service. Stopped in here in between work meetings and the staff was wonderful. Food came out fresh and quickly, our server kept the drinks coming and was making sure we had everything we needed. I'd definitely stop in here again if I'm in the area.

Enjoyed my experience because the food was no frills and delicious. I eat out a lot and Mexican and will be returning... That should count for something. BTW, small tacos are authentic. America wants to supersize everything so try not to let that bother you.

We eat here constantly and for years. The food is always great and the people are extremely friendly. the food is always fresh and the salsa and guacamole are awesome. I have food allergies and have never once got sick from cross contamination etc.

We've never seen anyone else in there when we go, so the atmosphere can be a little awkward. But the food is really good, so it's worth going. They are always friendly and service is super quick.

We came here based on the other great reviews. We would go back... the food was great, but the service was not. I think we would opt for take out next time. The chips and salsa they give you was amazing. I ate way too many chips. Both my husband and my meals were pretty good too. We were under the impression that they had beer and wine here, but they do not have any alcohol. I was told we could bring our own if we wanted. The waitress was friendly, but the service was verrry slow. For most of our meal we were the only people in the place and our service was still poor.

Not bad, sort of standard authentic-grade Mexican fare. Chicken is very good, albeit a bit oily. Place is a little grimy. I found it pricey for what they give you. Tacos are very small for the $$. Can't beat my favorites.

Consistently good. Not a lot of variety on the menu but what they do cook is very tasty and fresh.

This is a terrific little restaurant serving Mexican Food. The food is fresh and very tasty. The prices are low and the staff are super friendly. They have the best complimentary chips and salsa. The guacamole is made fresh to order. As far as main dishes, the chicken fajitas are the best I've ever had. The tacos, burritos, and quesa taco are good choices too. Give this place a try. It is worth it.

Very friendly service. Decor is rather chintzy but what do you want from a hole in the wall kind of place? I've enjoyed both their steak dishes. One is served with onions/green pepper and the other with a tomato pineapple sauce. The steak dishes are also served with lettuce, tomatoe and tortillas (sort of like DIY tacos). Both dishes were delicious. The portions are ample and the price is reasonable. If you dine in you get chips and salsa, both of which are extremely fresh. The dinners come with rice and beans, both which were excellent. Growing up in the restaurant business, I strive to support mom and pop shops like this.

We eat here ALL the time...at least once a week. The food is amazing and the service is prompt and friendly. We are vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free, and have NEVER had an issue after eating here. Great place for authentic Mexican food. The tortas are outstanding! Steve S. Grayslake

My wife and I have become regulars at Puerto Acapulco. We love the service, the friendly family staff, and of course, the food. Candy, the owner, is just wonderful! When our son turned one, we decided to use them to Cater his birthday party. Everyone, including our Au Pair (who is from Mexico), loved the food. Feeding over a hundred people can be a chore, and serving them food that stays delicious all day doubly so. Candy whipped up a delicious spread, and we really just gave her some suggestions on what we wanted, and let her take care of the rest. We are truly grateful to the staff of Puerto Acapulco for making our son's 1st birthday a tasty event! We love this Place!!!!

Great food. I'm from California where there's a Mexican food place every 10 feet. I've had some of the best and some of the worst Mexican food in Cali. I haven't really had a chance to sample some of the surprisingly large amount of Mexican food restaurants in Lake County. But Puerto Acapulco is as good as just about any of my favorite Mexican food joints in California. The carne asada burrito suiza was delicious. And the chicken quesadilla was amazing. My wife loved her carne asada burrito as well. They did, however, mess up my very simple order. But the quality more than made up for it. I can't wait to try more of their food. I'll DEFINITELY be returning.

This was a lovely surprise in a typical strip mall. The food was really fresh, portions more than generous. We tried tacos el pastor, quesadillas, fish tacos and thought they were all somebody the best we'd had. Guacamole was perfection.

Vegetarians beware! Only one sad veggie item on menu. Greasy and gross. Hidden and definitely not a gem.

I love this place! You can see into the kitchen and see they make everything from fresh products. Best guacamole I have ever had! It is a hidden gem in Grayslake!

Just in the area on business, looking for an inexpensive restaurant with good food. This tiny, funky eatery is the place. Delicious fresh food cooked well. Cheerful service. I can recommend the carne asada, chilaquiles and the camarones. Really good guacamole, too!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
