Amazing beer! Great service and food. Really good Moscow mules too! I have been looking for a reason to get here for years. I was so excited when a friend invited me. The beer list is awesome! I really have to use self control here. I may or may not have gotten drunk here once or twice. The food is good. It's not life changing or anything. Mostly typical bar food, but it's very good and worth ordering!

They have the softest, fresh and warm toilet paper in the world. Yes that is right, there is a heated TP dispenser in the men's room!

Ah Brixies, I love this place. It's a dive bar and has bad ass bathrooms to prove it. Doesn't pretend to me anything more than a dive bar with a great beer selection, interesting regulars, cheapo prices and bar grub that I've never tried. It's been here for ever, lots of RB high school alumni still come back when in town. I hope it never goes away. Brixie's is the epitome of coolness.

Brixie's is an historic landmark. I used to go there in the 70's. Back then they served premium beers as long as you liked Strohs, Olympia, Old Syle, Bud or Miller. They had a large menu consisting of Tombstone Pizza, pretzels and maybe popcorn. The building used to have a liquor store in the front half so the bar was half the size it is today. The 70's crowd was always an eclectic cross-section of people. Pat Paulsen who was a regular on the Smothers Brothers show stopped in. He ran for President 6 times. There were judges, politicians, members of bands (some famous), radio people, bikers, cops and regular people. It was rumored that the people who developed the TV show Cheers stopped in one night. This was before the show ever aired. One patron claimed to get a business card from one of the people. The bar was 99% peaceful. Not a lot of Harleys back then, it was the AMF days and Harleys were junk back then. If there was a fight, the bartenders found they were easier to breakup up if the fighters had already landed a couple of punches on each other. One bouncer, back then, was great. He could handle any trouble and still had a twisted and hilarious sense of humor. If he was there you were going to have a good time and nobody would bother you. I believe his father-in-law shot him to death a couple of years later. That was very sad. The most exciting thing I ever heard of at Brixie's was in '77 or '78 when Jack Ryder rode his Harley through the place. he had a tough time making the turn around the pool table, but he made it. He was banned for life. He died a while later so the ban stuck. I have stopped in Brixie's from time to time and the bar is nothing like the 70's, it's much much better. The atmosphere is great and the beer selection is unbelievable. You can also get real, great tasting food there. The only issue I have is that there is no Blatz on tap. No place is perfect. Enjoy Brixie's, you'll be very glad you did.

For those of you who complain Galloping Ghost Arcade doesn't serve alcohol, this is why. Only a four minute walk from the biggest and best arcade in the world is a dive bar that will definitely answer your need for booze after getting your ass kicked by Krang and Shredder on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the millionth time. Brixie's has a great selection of draft and bottled beers, including a pineapple cider that I am crushing out on so hard right now. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, and will definitely help you make a selection from the many choices or whip up a cocktail of your choice in no time. As many reviewers here have mentioned, Brixie's does attract the full spectrum of humanity at any given point of the day. But if you're playing video games at 1 in the morning, it's comes with the territory. Walk in here knowing you've signed a contract to see life's, ahem, RICH pageant at any given moment. And don't worry. The muscle at the door makes sure nothing gets out of hand. They've got television and pool tables along with a jukebox for playing your favorites and a live stage for bands. The only thing that could make Brixie's better is the menu. It's a dive bar, so the food is gonna be a bit rough. They do have daily specials to help make spending money on food a bit more paletable (pun intended). If you want to booze out while playing video games, elbowing for room on a busted cabinet of Mortal Kombat that doesn't have a working block button, stay in the city at Headquarters. If you want a clean separation of game and beer that keeps both sides pure, come to Galloping Ghost and Brixie's.

This is like a Craftheads paradise! They have what seems like an endless line of craft beer on tap, Whiskeys to sample, and to top it off...DELICOUS FOOD! Oh did I also mention the video gaming, pool table and five pinball machines? That's just the tip of it. There are a lot of locals here, so you will also get the local bar charm with it's mix of characters (so far we've only encountered the good mix, but i've heard stories!) It is also located a block down from the Galloping Ghost, an amazing arcade, and Tony's Diner..home to great comfort food. But I don't want to take away from this review, so onto the rest. The bartenders at this place know their shit when it comes to beers. If you tell them exactly what you are looking for, they can rattle off beers that suit your needs and even let you sample them to make sure it's what you absolutely want. If that isn't awesome, I don't know what is. Amongst the chalkboards listing their beers, flavor of the week, whiskeys, and shots....they have an event board listing the days that different breweries will be taking over their taps and showcasing their stuff We definitely plan to be back!

Hooooly taps. No exaggerating, 20+ unique taps to choose from and you'd never expect it from the look of the place from the exterior. We came here for the first time on Sunday and were very pleased to try a flight containing 7oz each of 4 different beers/ciders we've never had before. The bartender knew what was up - not annoying or unnecessarily pushy. The fellow patrons were unique and made for and enjoyable people watching experience. There seems to be a lot going on during the week as well (trivia, live music, etc). Food isn't good by any means, but that's why you order after a few rounds. Overall a very cool, relaxed hangout for craft beer enthusiasts and divey bar lovers.

Showed up around 10pm on a Friday.. Wasn't too packed, spacious layout, garage doors were open for fresh air, decent prices for drinks, tons of different beers, good whiskey, Malort!, average bar food, friendly & knowledgeable bartenders, plenty locals, plenty TVs, slot machines, pool/game room area, comfortable atmosphere.. First sat at a table, then my guy and I moved to the bar.... I thought this was a dive opened until 4am with idiots fighting? I was wrong and will gladly return soon. Great times indeed

Let's just say, people don't go here for food. We got nachos and fried pickles and they were both the worst food I've ever touched. I'll update later if I get sick from the two bites I took. As for the beers- amazing selection, nice bartender. We were happy they had bells, rev brew and my favorite; Allagash. Didn't check out bathrooms but overall, they were probably as minimal as the bar decor is.

Smoked and pulled pork tacos topped simply with cilantro and onions are incredibly good. The dozens of choices to drink on tap from all the best craft brewers only makes it better. And the service from Brittany was excellent. Note I read reviews that say it is a "dive bar." I would just call it "unassuming" which is a good thing.

My friend told me I couldn't steal his description, so I won't, but it was so fitting and he only beat me to it because I was laughing about my bathroom mishap. Whatevs. There was a part of me that really liked this place. The garage doors, the general feel, THE BEER LIST, the back wall of poker machines (which in turn made it feel like some seedy dive, or Reno)...that all made me smile. Then again, the table of guys who looked like my high school group of friends was a little much for me. I'll go to almost any bar as long as there is good beer. It's an added bonus when it's cheap. I wouldn't say it was cheap, but it wasn't overpriced either. Clever burger descriptions and a menu that actually sounded appealing. Can't comment on the food though, I was there to drink. Seems a little odd that their kitchen closes well before the bar does, but hey, to each their own. Surprisingly clean bathroom. I broke the seal before arriving here, and nothing is worse than breaking the seal and having to use an awful bathroom many times. Not the case here! Through the pool room and to the left. Don't bump into anyone's cue, they don't look like the type that would find it funny. I'll give Brixie's this. The bartender we had actually knew how to describe beer. I know this seems silly, but you'd be surprised how many places will have a solid beer menu and then say "it's good" as a description.

Upon reading reviews for Brixie's I can draw one conclusion: it absolutely depends what time you go there. If you arrive before they roll down the garage doors (AKA dark), you'll find a north side esque bar stocked with rare beer finds. If this is your last stop of the night(and everyone else's), it will obviously be a sticky, "divey", dirty-bathroom mess (duh?). I live in North Carolina but I stop at Brixie's every single time I'm back home in Brookfield. I looooove the beer selection. I only give 4 stars bc sometimes the jukebox is disabled and the staff's choice is pretty lousy and specific. Loud death metal-y stuff isn't a crowd pleaser for someone who wants to sit and converse and have several beers at your spot! Save that for after hours.

This has been a local spot for my friends and I to watch Monday Night Football for the last few years. There is a lot to like about this spot. PLUSES: Great beer selection of both imports and craft beers, a relaxed environment, and when it's nice outside, garage doors they leave open for a wonderful breeze. Also, huge projection screen, pinball, and (as the trailer park boys would say) VLT's (video gambling). I also really like the bartenders here. Usually nice and play good music. MINUSES: the food is pretty substandard, nothing really to plug here. Eat before hand, then come get drunk here. BEST PART: Free baskets of BACON for every beer you order on Mondays!!! Limit tow per customer, but that seems to be more of a suggestion. Also Monday Trivia nights at 9!

With such a large list of beer to choose from one might wonder how do I know what to get, fear not my fellow pub crawlers, ask the bar tender and they will be more than happy to fill you a few samples so you can either A. see what you like or B. see what mood you are in. Brixe's is as good as it gets! it's no high class cocktail bar but they have a great selection of craft beers & a even larger shelf of beers in bottle or can. I almost wish I was hungry as those fresh cut fries and burgers on a pretzel bun looked amazing. If I was still in my pool hall days I would venture out here just for billiard area it is phenomenal for someone who digs the bring on all comers atmosphere. wrap around couches circumference the area for those who want to scout their prey.

I went here for a fundraiser and the waitress/bar tender a female with short hair was just very rude, and snapped when I ask her for a water. I wasn't the only person I seen her talk like that too. Food was typical bar food. Next time I go to a fundraiser their I'm eating before I go so I don't have to be talk to like that. Other then that I'll avoid this place

This place is great. If you enjoy craft beer, this place is a MUST. I'd even go so far as to say it's probably the best craft beer bar in Chicagoland. My reasoning for this bold statement are as follows: - Amazing lineup of beers (always changing). Some of the beers are really hard to find. - Prices are reasonable. In a city where people pay $7 for a Green Line "craft beer," getting a real craft beer for $5-7 seems like a good deal. They also have good specials. - The owner and most of the staff are very knowledgeable about the beers they serve - Good mix of people populate this bar. From locals to hipsters to blue collar and everyone in-between. I've never had the food, but it looks pretty decent. The only reason I hesitate to give this 5/5 stars is that the clientele gets a little scuzzy late night.

To be blunt: your fries sucked. Unless you like soggy oil laden limp dong taters. It's not 100% your fault. No, I blame America's casual dining industry that's suddenly all about "natural" "hand cut" fries. But they're only good if you cook them correctly! They need to be fried twice. Par cooked in the fryer, rested, dried, and refried! If you can't be bothered to do it correctly then just buy a bag of skin on frozen fries and be done with it. Fries!!! Have some respect!

It's like some hipster bar in Chicago and a white trash dive bar from the suburbs fornicated and Brixie's was born. And relatives from both sides of the family show up at the reunion, comingle and get drunk. We all know that has the potential to lead to fights and other silliness, but no family is perfect. I actually kinda love this place, and I have to give it up for the co-worker who recommended it to me. Beer is key and they had an all-star lineup. Three Floyd's Zombie Dust, Bell's Hop Slam, and Dogfish Head 90 Minute on tap? I'm game. That doesn't even scratch the surface of their menu but when I heard they had those, it was enough to get me to stop in after dinner. They have some nice selections in bottles and cans as well. The atmosphere is divey. Whether it's genuinely divey or deliberate for irony is yet to be determined, but it's comfortable. There's pool tables, pinball machines, and darts amongst other things to keep you occupied if you so desire. I'm just curious to find out if they open those garage doors in the summer. If so, I'll even bring my own lawn chair. Brixie's might not be for everybody, as it's a little rough around the edges. It only takes one visit to realize they attract some odd characters. If you're female, make sure to bring a friend or two.

I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I love Brixies! Some people call this a dive-- I mean, it does have garage doors that make it "open air" in the summer, but they've been doing some nice upgrading. Even though I'm not much for beer, I've been convinced to try it there and have been pleasantly surprised. Even more surprising is how good their food is. I love going to Brixies, and showing people that consider themselves beer snobs this place. Everyone ends up leaving impressed and satisfied! They have a projector for the big games, pool, a few pinball machines and your standard circle table and stools. I've never had a bad experience.

Its only redeeming quality is the beer selection, but I can find the same selection in a more relaxed environment.

$5 craft draft list is all u need to know yo! i've been coming here for years. After a few remodels, they really got it down. Their Nachos are pretty good. On Tuesdays they have free soup! the beer list changes regularly! my suggestion. go here on a weekday for some quality beers. Then go back on the weekend with friends and have a great time including a PBR tallboy and a shot of Malort for $5!. its a really social place with a lot of Brookfield young adults ;) they got pool tables, video gambling and 2 pinball machines that usually rotate often.

The review you are about to read is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent. Except no one at a 4am bar is innocent so the story remains the same. On any given night (or wee morning hours) of the week, you can find 30+ top quality craft beers on tap here. 5 stars. To say that Brixie's is an institution would be a vast understatement. This bar is older than my grandmother, made it through the Great Depression, saw the first man on the moon, and probably partied like it was 1999 the whole way through. 5 stars. Now, any bar that's been able to stick around for so long is bound to have a few quirks, and I'd say Brixie's main eccentricities come in the form of it's customers. Don't be scurred, just be prepared for an experience that could be filed under peculiar, offbeat (in a good way), and/or downright bizarre... but keeps you coming back for more. IMO, 5 stars. On the (late) night of the BF and my visit, we walked into a somewhat sparsely populated bar and the always outstanding beer list. We took some seats at the bar and were promptly served by a bartender who had been beer-tending at the big B for 18 years, now. Low turnover is generally always a sign of a great bar. A few rounds of craft beer and a foursquare check in later, we're googling the place to see what it's story is and learning a hell of a lot about Malort in the meantime. ::cringe:: As we do this, we notice another patron at the bar trying to get our attention. We'd been trying our best to ignore the 50 something feathered haired gentlemen because we were almost certain that only a few minutes prior he was barking like a dog, but in a pirate accent (picture it, people) in our general direction. We finally acknowledged his grumblings as he asked us what we were doing on our "machine." The machine was my BFs iphone and apparently he was implicating us in his conspiracy theory that we were controlling the bar's music from our phone. He seemed upset, so in an attempt to ease his worries the bartender showed him the knobs behind the bar for the volume control... unfortunately, it did not control the volume level of the voices in his head.To him, we were still a threat. To be fair, we were a little buzzed and began to egg him on a bit. The BF would point his "machine" in his direction and I'd ahem little things about Elvis still being alive and my involvement as the second shooter. Date night was going along quite swimmingly. Now, if I had to describe how he looked, I'd say Jim Caviezel at about 56 after he went crazy from getting struck by lightning twice during passion of the Christ. This is your brain on lightning... and too much Christ, and maybe a few 'Nam flashbacks as well. At one point he told my BF, the guy next to me, and myself that we're "fucked". Still not sure what that meant but the guy next to me (a regular) was a little uncomfortable with the idea. Then, he began reminiscing about when he could: A. Smoke in bars while... B. Getting sucked off by whores. After this, the bartender told him to watch his mouth in front of the lady (ahem, he was talking about moi ::in a dainty voice::). The bartender's scolding appeared to profoundly affect him as he 'tapped out' from the bar and headed over to the jukebox to create a classic rock carnival for our ears. The music appeared to calm him, though he did at one point threaten to give the BF a 'knuckle sammich' for agreeing with him, then 10 seconds later they were all good in the hood. Mood swings can be a b*tch, bro. Brixie's: proving that awesome things can happen after 2am. Moral of the story: Making friends is fun and having great beer in an exciting, fast paced, environment is even better. 5 stars.

The entertainment was amazing. And I'm not just talking about the band. If Brixie's continuously attracts the winners that make me bust out laughing with the case of the giggles, then I'm sold. Brixie's is the place to be. Of course the giggles might have been from the wonderful craft beer selection that I sampled that night (but I really know it was from some missed-the-mark comments a cute young man was making, obviously trying to make conversation with a lady in our group. I am soooo not getting a Christmas card from Erin this year) So when the Michael Phelps doppelganger left, we were free to enjoy the music. It was a nice summer evening so the garage doors were open. Even with them open, the music /acoustics were pretty loud so that we were left to shouting at each other throughout the evening. The food was meh. I got the BLT but reading reviews now, I think I should have gone with a burger. But the real star is the 30 plus craft brew list on tap. Since I'm an old lady, I'd pass on band nights and just come to try a new brew and enjoy some pool. Attack of the giggles may or may not be included.

Stopped by after spending a few hours at Galloping Ghost. I needed to refuel. It was a Saturday night, and I was able to get a bar stool. I love the burbs. Laura served me up an Alpha King as I looked over the menu. Food is one page and beer is another. Short and sweet. They have their wall behind the bar full of tappers of many micro brews. 2 or 3 locals, (TF, Revolution, Goose Island) I was hoping they had Zombie Dust, but no luck. Maybe next time. I ordered the Dude Abides burger. Half pound burger with cheddar and bleu cheese even though I think it was supposed to be only one cheese, but they gave me both. Pretzel bun completes it. Fresh cut fries. The way mother would make it. They don't look pretty, but they go with the burger amazingly. The beer and food here are great. You would have to go in the city to get this type of food, beer selection, but you would be waiting 2 hours to get a seat. This will be my new bar to grab a brew after work (Oak Brook). I know in Romeoville, there is no place like this. The Atmosphere is great in here. Some locals, some people just passing by or from the arcade down the street. You can easily pass this place up driving by. Pinball, pool, darts in one area of the place. Juke box where I played some Eagles hehe.....and Bob Seger. Stage in another area. Very open feel to the place. The server Laura is a doll. She loves microbrews herself as she sat on a stool after a shift change, and had a brew. I will have to visit this place after work on a weekday!

After finding out about the craft beer selection at Brixie's through stalking the pages of my yelp friends, I obviously had to go. It's a good thing I waited until now because the bar just had a "Three Floyd's Explosion" (their words, not mine) and I was able to drink some of my beloved Zombie Dust while I was there. SCORE! They also had Revolution's Anti-Hero IPA which I LOVE so I was quite happy (Or hoppy. See what I did there?). The bar itself is a little VFW looking (a fact that my husband let me know about 6 times...I guess he was a little scurred) but I don't care what a place looks like as long as it has awesome craft beer. I don't even care if the glass is clean (here it was though, no worries). The bar has been around forever so I think it has character, but if you are squicked out by being somewhere that has randomly placed tables and chairs and garage doors, don't come here. There are also pool tables, dart boards, a pinball machine, and a jukebox so really there's a lot to do if you get antsy after all your craft beer drinking and don't want to go down the street to The Galloping Ghost Arcade (which many people do) to spend your energy. There is a good mix of people here too: townies, bikers, hipsters, you name it. Point is, you don't have to be a _______ to come here. (I came here on a Friday night around 8 to give you a frame of reference). The food was really good too. My husband and I both had cheeseburgers and hand-cut fries. The man ordered a Dude Abides burger (how can you not, really?) and it was far out. (Please tell me you know what part of the movie that is from) I had the El Diablo (add crumbled bleu cheese) and it was AWESOME. Fiery, cheesy, and spicy mayo goodness. I love the pretzel buns, the fries, and the burgers were cooked perfectly. I will be back. See you there.

This place had a gameroom area with a couple pool tables dartboard and pinball machines. Will most likely come back and check this place out once the weather gets a bit warmer to get the full experience of this place with the garage doors open!

I stopped into Brixie's to take a break from some nostalgic arcade gaming down the street at Galloping Ghost. It is within walking distance. It was about 5PM on a Saturday and the seats at the bar were already mostly full, but we were able to snag two free seats on the end. The place is pretty large with an open floor plan. It is loosely divided into three sections, the bar, pool/pinball area, and a general table and stage area. It has a bit of dive bar feel to it... not in a bad way, but just putting it out there. Sitting at the bar I was disappointed by the stale smell of spilled beer. I know that it does not need to be this way because I go to other bars that do not suffer from this smell. Monica, the bartender was very friendly and made us feel welcome right away. Despite her friendliness, they still take your credit card to hold open a tab. They don't just scan it, they literally hold it in a plastic bowl filled with everyone's credit cards. I watched them sequentially search through this bowl many times during the hours that I was there in order to find someone's card. I understand that Brixie's is a big place and it would be difficult to keep track of every customer, but I still don't like their system. A corollary to that involves the ordering of drinks. I sat at the bar, but observed that there doesn't appear to be any table service. This led to a never-ending stream of people coming to the bar to order drinks. They would simply say the last name on the card to get those drinks put on their tab. I wonder if anyone has ever scammed by saying a different name. Before we ever stepped inside, we had heard that the beer selection was great. Once we were at the bar, we found that there was plenty of excellent choices on the menu to keep us happy. (Maybe too many considering how much I drank!) I am writing this review about a month after my visit, so although I took notes, all I wrote down was that the beer was great with plentiful choices, so I cannot name anything I had. The selection and price (mentioned below) is what earned Brixie's four stars. The beer prices were very reasonable at Brixie's. Many beers that I am familiar with were $1 less than at other places and they didn't use the smaller glass trick either. I don't often visit Brookfield, so I don't know how the location fits into this "discount". The food was good. I had heard about the burgers and the one I had was yummy along with the fries. The mac and cheese was huge. I got it with bacon and bell peppers. Unfortunately it wasn't cheesy enough for me. Brixie's needs to cut down on the huge portion and put more cheese in it. Overall I enjoyed my visit to Brixie's. I had several interesting conversations with my fellow patrons at the bar. The bartenders took good care of me. The beer selection was very good. I don't make it to the area very often, but the next time I am in the mood for some classic video games, I will definitely stop by Brixie's.

Fantastic draf beer selection. I love when they open the garage doors in the summer - it's almost like you're outside. This place has just the right amount of "dive-y-ness" yet it's clean and the bathrooms aren't too scary. Haven't tried the food but I'm sure we'll return for a burger and a great draft beer.

If you go to bars for the decor and cleaniness, this isn't your place. But you if value quality beer selection, come here. After 2am, the douche bags show up. I've come here at 9pm, had a blast until the place filled with after hours people and just left. I think my boyfriend said you could smell trouble in the air. Anyways, don't get hung up on how unpleasant looking a place is. They've got a pool table, some dart boards, and a great selection of draft beers. I never used to drink specialty beers until I was here and started trying things.

Brixie's kitchen is now open on Sundays. This is a huge breakthrough in quality of life for west burb beer lovers. We went yesterday and the new bartender, Laura, is very friendly and knowledgeable about the beer selections. As usual the beer list was astronomically off the charts in excellence, and the burger and fries were perfect. We tried the new hush puppies - not recommended. Tried the chili - it was fine for chili, I'm not a fan in general, but lots of meat and the flavor was good. Cole slaw - dressing way too heavy all of a sudden. Keep it real, Brixie's, you're awesome.

If you haven't been to Brixie's since the late 90's, you have to see the changes. One of the best craft beer selections anywhere in Chicago (32 taps), and even though I'm a beer geek, I find something new every time I go (which is often, so the selection rotates often!). The kitchen is doing some really good bar fare...the pretzel roll burgers are great. With a friendly and knowledgeable staff that welcomes even the beer novice, and an eclectic clientele each night, Brixie's has become a great hangout!

Don't let those reviews below trick you. This place is still a dive. Oh great, they redid the floors...the tables are still wobbly, the stools have rips, the place is dingy and dark, noone is there before 2am when the other bars close, the bathrooms are disgusting and way too small and the bands that play there usually suck. However, i still go here, because it is the only place in the area open late. They have an extensive beer list, but I couldn't care less about that. If there was any other place open til 4am in the area, you'd see me there instead on my late nights.

Finally went to Brixies because they had Zombie Dust on tap on their beer menu....too late....all gone :( Still had some excellent beers on tap and enjoyed a couple with our meal. I had the Mac and Cheese and my friend had the Brixie Burger. She enjoyed it and the fries that come with it were pretty good. The Mac and Cheese was kind of uninspired, but the perfectly al dente macaroni (hard to find with mac and cheese) made up for the good but not great sauce. Service was good and we enjoyed ourselves. I will definitely be back to belly up to the bar and sample some great beer on tap. I would sum Brixies up as "everyman's Palmer Place" - and the beer is cheaper!!!

A local comfy place with quality food and a pretty big beer selection. This is a no non sense place. Jeans and a tshirt are what you should wear and a burger is what you should eat. Theres a few pool tables, tvs and dart boards. If youre looking to have a laid back night this is the place for you.

I always thought this was some small stupid bar with hooded twenty somethings always seen outside smoking while passing by on Ogden Avenue. Well one day there were none of them and I decided to catch a crucial football game. The place was more spacious than I thought and they had a large screen television perfect for a big game. There was a pool table and the food looked pretty decent. Not a really large beer selection but more than adequate and necessary. This place wasn't half bad.

Brixie's has a great selection of craft beers - bottles and on tap. Prices are great, and they have plenty of deals during the week. Food is typical bar food, the fries are very tasty. Great location, right on Ogden with a decent size parking lot. I was there last week and was impressed by the waitress/bartender. She was alone, but quick and friendly, which was a good surprise considering the place was full. The place also has 2 pool tables ($1 per game). It would be awesome if customers didn't have to pay for a game of pool while enjoying a beer. Unfortunately Brixie's like most bars in the area introduced video gaming in the bar, which can be noisy and distracting. Generally though - a great neighborhood bar!

They are 4 stars only because I can't ever imagine some place ever getting 5. That being said Jorge's "Famous pork tacos" are worth 5 stars alone. The slow roasted smoky pork topped by cilantro and onions tacos with an excellent side Chipotle flavored sauce are unbelievably good for under $8!

Excellent craft beer selection, and they are open until 4am. One of the few bars with a good craft selection not too far from the western/south suburbs that is open that late. They get things that very few other bars get, and they also do their own special Randal treatments occasionally (running Bourbon County Stout through vanilla beans or coffee or other spices as an example). Reasonably priced too. Do a shot of Malort if you're up for it. Has that dive bar feel to it, which I dig. Some pool tables and dart boards if that's your thing. Music is normally not overly loud. I have run into some "interesting" other customers when I am there, it attracts all walk of life. Never had any food, but for a bar, it's just what I want. Gotta grow my beard out a little more before I go back though. Definitely wish it was a little closer to me so I can go more often, but I make it a point to go when I can.

I have been wanting to stop in at Brixie's for a long time. I finally did today after the car show in Brookfield. I knew they had a kick ass selection of craft brews but to see all the taps on the wall was just awesome! The place is a little stark. Plain bar, few tables spewed about, few TV's on the wall, pool table, what looked like a stage, a few garage doors. Nothing to look at really. Since this was Sunday afternoon it was pretty empty so I imagine once the crowd rolls in it adds to the lack of decor. Lets face it I didn't come for atmosphere, I came for burgers and beer. The beer selection is probably the best I have ever seen. The huge cooler behind the bar is awesome! The burger, Joliet Jake, was delicious! The chips not so much. The beer, two different IPA's were both great! The bartender knew her beer and the cook knew her kitchen. I will be back. Next time I will bring my wife so I can try a lot more beers.

I don't know what it is about this place, but I keep hearing "the freaks come out at night" in the back of my mind. It doesn't seem to matter at what time or on which day of the week I show up here, I know I'm going to leave feeling violated by someone. And being single for as long as I have, I would consider welcoming some stranger danger and good touch / bad touch, but a good chunk of the customers are straight up creepers. The upside is that my friend and I get to oggle the Greek god of a bartender. Good: My friend and I can show up and know we'll be VIP when her boyfriend is playing a gig. They serve Effen vodka and have grenadine, I've never had to wait longer than 2 minutes to be served. Many beers to choose from. Bad: Dirty, questionable clientele, a deficit of Maraschino cherries.

Brixie's, Brixie's Brixie's!! This place has survived with the cockroaches!! NO!!! it's doesn't have them, but it's been around forever. I think it has to do with their excellent beer selection, lots of room, weekend bands for as long as I remember. I new kitchen and a staff of barteders that are just all around good and friendly. They strike up conversations and remember you from previous visits. It's not Bar Louie people, but we don't need anymore $5 Budweiser bars.... If you and the guys, gals, softball team want a place to drop in with some room, pool tables, darts, etc... give it a try... and if you don't like it... well then... goto Bar Louie!!

The bartenders know their beer here and the selection (Around 30 tappers) rivals bars in the city that are twice as expensive. There's not many places you can get a pint of something like Lagunitas Lil Sumpin Sumpin or Old Rasputin for under $6. Go on their website and check out their beer selection and you won't be dissapointed. They also have $3 whiskey shots every day (rebel yell and maker's mark stand out). And if you're feeling adventurous, ask for a mallort, mallasco or Brookfield Special. Besides the beer, the place is open late, the space is huge and the customers are definetely a mishmosh of people from all walks of life. For the people who complain about the crowds and shady people, you must have been there after 2 am on a weekend, because thats when the crowds are the most hectic. If you are a first timer, come on a weekday early in the evening, kick back at the bar and enjoy a meal (the burgers, chili and fried pickles are all good) or grab a pint and shoot some pool. Defintely a bar to keep in your rotation if you like quality beer at a working man's price.

Life is short, try Malort. Brixie's said to, so you have to. I'd already tried it before, so I skipped it at Brixie's, mainly b/c the bartenders who once concoted the weird Malort cocktails are no longer practicing their particular form of patron torture. Instead we honed in on the beer list. Many good selections to be had here at a reasonable price. I also honed in on the security cam TV. The little corner booth gives you a great view of the whole establishment and the surveillance footage. Not that anything exciting was happening, but it could. Spying not your game? Try pinball or pool. I prefer spying. I tried the fried pickles, which were good but a bit scanty, though at only $3.50, I'm down. My burger was excellent, cooked to order and the beef was very flavorful. Pretzel bun! Handcut fries! Hooray! Boyfriend's make your own mac n cheese was a bit intense. He chose jalapenos as one of the mix ins. His mouth burned off. There was a whole jalapeno sliced into it, with the seeds. I didn't want to try it because I am a wuss, but he was red in the face. Yikes. Eat at your own risk. Despite fire mouth, we had a nice time and Brixie's is just another reason why I'm considering a zoo membership for next year. It's an excellent place to curl up and die after hours of walking and animal viewing. Plenty of room to line up your Mold-a-Rama booty.

So...I kind of hate this place - period. This is weird because I normally ADORE dive bars. It's dirty and it's big. You feel like you'll stick to the floor, the tables, the stools and maybe you do. Hopefully you get too drunk to notice. The thing is, if you're going to be a dirty dive bar, be small and quaint. There's something more daunting about wall to wall gross when there's more square footage. It's dingy. Reading the reviews below, apparently it is a converted garage. Reading this makes me want to give it a higher review cause it makes me think I've missed some kind of subtle charm or kitsch. But no - it's still a rat hole. I can't remember if I've been to the bathrooms here, but I do know that I'd rather go pee in a Taco Bell - it's just that kind of place. The seating - SUCKS. The tables are wobbly and weirdly spread out and then there's something akin to a church pew over near the stage area. Because this place is so icky-tastic, I haven't tried any of the beers off their extenstive list. I suspect they haven't flushed out the lines since the 80s. Therefore, I stick to spirits. That said, I like to mix Effen Black Cherry Vodka (which I'm SHOCKED they have) with Coke. I figure that AT LEAST the Coke guy cleans out the lines once & a while when he delivers the concentrate. Well, it tasted...off. Know why? IT'S RC? Who the HECK offers RC products? GROSS!!! Pretty much sums up the bar as a whole. The patrons are mostly locals and mostly friendly. However, many just look a bit abraisive and come off as ignorant and crass. It could be the alcohol - could just be they're morons. Jury is still out. My one good thing to say about this place is as follows: they do have pool tables...3 of them I believe. I like pool. So, it isn't a total loss. Oh...one other good thing. There is a dark haired man that tends bar who has curly hair that is GORGEOUS. At the very least, you can order a disgusting drink and mock sip it while staring at him all night. All & all, if people I know (who are indiginous to the area) didn't meet up here, I certainly wouldn't and I do my best to avoid it at all costs.

We stopped here Saturday evening for a couple cold drinks and some food after spending the afternoon at Brookfield zoo. The rum and cokes were $3.50 which makes me happy. A huge basket of fries was $3, and for $1 more you can add cheese, bacon, and jalapenos. I wish we had decided to upgrade our basket of fries. We ordered a plain basket, and then people at the table decided to get the upgraded basket. Since the burgers and sandwiches all came with fries, this meant we all ate a helluva a lot of fries. But they were tasty! The burgers were gigantic, and since I had just filled up on fries I decided to split a burger. I think that was a wise decision. The burger was delicious. It was cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and came on a pretzel bun. It was perfect! We were in here early on a Saturday night (like 6), but the place seemed clean enough. The bathrooms were fine. But I understand how bar bathrooms can be completely different at the end of the night.

Oh Brixie's, I fear your better days are behind you. I remember when you were dark and dingy and most of the bar stools wobbled, the pool tables were a bit warped, the juke box was full of rock and roll, scum-rock bands played (without some pathetic excuse for a stage) and the bathroom doors actually locked. Now, it seems, you've become a plastic surgery junkie. The walls are painted, there are roll-up doors for the warm weather, new lighting, decorative keg taps are lined up like a firing squad. Hell, you serve food now and I remember a time one would have been afraid to bring food in for fear of catching a communicable disease. However, you've neglected the true heart of yourself. You can no longer express your true gritty inner self now that you look just like every other bar around. Yes, the beer selection is still impressive and the hallway view upon entry is still sort of run-down, but the overall vibe is gone. I mean, I couldn't believe the amount of douche-bags that were wandering about. What happened to the scruffy locals? You're in a sad state Brixie's. The only remnant of your scummy past is the bathrooms. You'd think if you were going to spend all that money prettying up the place you might have considered getting locks that actually work in the women's bathroom. You see, it's all surface repairs with you. You've done nothing to address the ugly on the inside. I'm sorry old friend, but I fear we've both changed too much. I guess you can't go home again.

I first went to Brixie's when I heard about their extensive beer menu and have never been disappointed by it. They always have a large selection of craft beer on tap at reasonable prices. Since the smoking ban went into effect they have done alot to clean up and improve the atmosphere. Their new kitchen serves a solid burger and fries. I would also recommend the deep fried pickles.

I used to be a regular customer. Me and a friend came there sometimes twice a week, ordered at least $30 in drinks plus a meal or two. We tipped, must admit, not all the time, but a lot of the times. Especially the waitors that were nice and friendly. The pool tables are great, but the beer selection is not that large and gets boring after a while. It was after we were told we can no longer "stiff" our bartender on tip (we usually leave the final tip at the end of the night with our final drink) we simpy paid 5 to the waiter in tips and left. Apparently it was another bartender who complained about us, even though she never notices us at the bar, always has a cowl on her face, and always seems unhappy to be there. I also do not like the way she mixes the drinks (they taste watered down). She has never actually brougt out the drinks we order, the other bartenders/ waiters do....so we tip them well. It was uncomfortable and embarrassing to have a pool game interrupted by person telling us we are not leaving enough money, especially when we are regular customers and bring them a lot of business. Also, very silly to have amother person make a complaint for you. She should have just complained herself, to our faces, and we would have told her we were going to give ger a big tip in the end. Oh well.

I honestly don't know why it took me so long to go to the bar with the best beer list in brookfield. Kind of strange for someone who calls himself the beer whore! They have one of the best American craft brew list I have seen in a long time. Also, I love how many beers that they have on draft. There were so many options my mind was spinning when we walked in! We grabbed a few beers and checked out the menu. We got a order of the fried pickles. I LOVE Fried pickles!!!! We decided to go with a few burgers with fresh cut fries! Fresh cut fries, are you kidding me! This place keeps getting better and better! The burger was very good and ridiculously large! Great food from a unlikely location! The actual bar is what can only be described as a Dive Bar. The bar is huge, they have pool tables ,and pinball machines. The bathrooms are terrible! This doesn't bother me. I could pee out of a moving car window if I had too. However, I can see how this place could be a hard sell to the ladies! Brixie's I feel like you are a bar made for me!

This place is weird. The beer selection is fantastic. Whatever you want they have. They are priced pretty well too. The problem with this place is the people they attract. Mainly people who live in Brookfield, didn't go to college, are a tad over-weight, and have smelly beardss. They always have real crappy jam-bands playing here. Terrible live music. Just awful. It's located in an old garage, so the decore is terrible, but I guess that's what they are going for. Come here if you want to drink great beer, have your nostrils assulted, find beard hair all over the bar, and listen to terrible bands that cover Phish and the Greatful dead. 3 stars.

Brixie's is not a place you visit for the atmosphere, in my opinion. It is a place you go to with friends. With a solid group of four or more (and there is generally plenty of room to sit, not to mention pool tables and REAL darts), it's easy to have a great time here. The bartenders are generally nice and accommodating, and the beer selection is pretty wide, with a concentration on craft brews. I haven't had a chance to try the food since they've opened a kitchen there, but I've heard good things. I normally hit this place after 1 am, so it's hard to say a lot of things about this place, I guess. My friend got vomited on AT the bar, and I'm still giving this four stars. That should say something.

I went here with a few buddies and we had some beers and burgers. We loved the beer selection and all enjoyed the burgers. The customers services was lacking as there was only one person working the bar. It's a pretty unique space - I could see it being pretty sweet at night w/ lots of people there. When first arriving, we felt a little bit awkward since there was no one there to greet us or tell us how to order food. Eventually after sitting at a table for a few minutes..we walked up to the bar and had to get menus....and then go back to the bar to put in our order. Not a big deal - but it would've been nice to at least have a sign telling us what to do. This is definitely another good place to meet up with a few friends and drink some beer and enjoy a burger.

Awesome beer selection but sticking to my dragon's milk for now! They offer FREE bacon on Mondays, and they have great fries to go with their really awesome burgers. If you are in the Brookfield area this is a spot to check out at least once if you really enjoy microbrews and bite to eat. The staff here is attentive and will definitely help out if you have no idea what beers to check out. By no means is this a trendy spot but if you enjoy a good beer then check this spot out, you won't be disappointed.

Brixie's is not all things to all people. It is large, semi-cavernous and somewhat unstimulating inside. But Brixie's is about the beer ,the bar food and the people inside. If you are tentative based upon prior reviews, bring your own friends and enjoy. The beer selection is fantastic. The burgers are big and flavorful. In fact, all the food we tried was prepared with pride and the burgers can stand up against any burger I have had in the western burbs. Just don't come with any preconceived notions of what Brixie's should be and enjoy what it is.

A very good neighborhood bar that has a very Dr. Jekyll and Hyde potential to it. I frequent this bar because the have the best tap beer selection in the western burbs. Brixies is one of the few bars that get exclusive beers that are limited in the Chicagoland area like Lagunitas Chicago Fusion which only appeared in 6 bars! If you wander in then chances are you'll find beer fans but only at certain times of the day. The Dr. Jekyll hours are before the 'kids' show up and when they do 'Hyde' is what you get and what you want to do. I'm in my mid thirties and am not interested in the drama of the early twenty-somethings dating life, sure it's funny as all hell when you say to yourself "Was I really a stupid as these guys?" and yes I was! Bands on the weekends are pretty random in style but usually worth checking out. The bar food is a couple of notches above regular pub food is worth the trip for the hotter-than-hell burger! Beer lovers must make a trip here and find the others who say that this is the southside oasis for craft beer!

Readers, it's true. Brixie's is a dive. Even if they re-did the floor, it would never loose that smell of stale smoke and blue-collar crowd. Come here for the beer, and the late late hours. There aren't many suburban bars open this late, so take advantage. I always do when the gang and I are in town for the Holidays. Plus, if you're feeling fancy, you can get a martini for $3. Only in Brookfield. Just be very careful driving down Ogden. I swear that street collects squad cars.

So, this is a mini Palmer Place in relation to beer selection. I came here after meeting up with an old friend at Palmer and after a fantastic meal. Came in when it was 4pm and there were only two other people there, so I had solid face time with the bartender. She was fantastic, willing to listen as well as be brief for my long windedness. Here, there's about a hundred beers, about twenty on tap and the rest in the coolers. The chalkboard will alert you to others that they have. Per chance you order a beer that is out, it'll be on the house. Three stars? The bartender told me this 'fantastic' story of a married dude coming in one afternoon with his mistress. It was quite slow and they were alone with the bartender. Well, as she had just opened the bar for the day, she had duties to tend to. So she was gone for about ten minutes and when she comes back she makes the round around them and saw that she was pleasing the married man second base at the bar. This is where she had ended the story because she had to go since her boyfriend was in the parking lot. Keeping me on the edge of my seat, tainted or not, subtracts two stars. Now, would I come back, perhaps if Palmer was full and I was wanting to keep my liver guessing.

I'll admit, this place used to be pretty rough to go to. An absolute dive, filled with smoke. Well, since smoking has been banned, they've certainly tried to clean up their image. I stopped in as I had some time to kill before my flight out of town and I was in the area. The beer selection is solid, and the prices are better. It always has been. But what's new is they've added a kitchen, and its pretty good. The menu is pretty simple, nothing extravagant, but the food is top notch. I had a steak sandwich, and it came with fresh cut fries. I had mine "Delaware style." You can chose from a variety of different "styles:" Wisconsin, Cajun, and so on. They also have burgers, and a variety of appetizers you'd expect to find at a bar. I was offered a sampling of the fried pickles, and I'll say they're probably the best I've had. The batter was good, they're lightly seasoned, and they use bread and butter pickles instead of dill. Its pretty unique, and pretty delicious. If I lived in the area, this would be my bar.

I have only been here after 2am. It's usually dark, crowded and full of interesting characters. I typically don't remember much when I'm here because I'm only here because I'm not ready to stop drinking and go home. They're open til 4am and that part is great. Bathrooms are gross and tiny. The staff is usually nice tho. This place is a dive, don't be fooled by the rocks that it rocks. Great beer list but I tend to not venture past Miller Lite because I'm drunk, remember, and wouldn't know what a pale ale of sorts tasted like anyway...my tongue is numb from the beer and shots earlier in the night. Only occasionally good for dancing. Plenty of pool tables if that's your thing and a few dart boards. Sometimes they have bands but in my experience they were for the over 40 crowd. Usually a juke box blasting random genres when I'm here.

If Brixie's had a Yelp! page post-summer 2009, I would post this review there. Since I can't do that, I'm noting it up front. The draft beer list is strong, with lines primarily consisting of craft beers and imports. The prices can't be beat, so this is a viable option for beer nerds from the city. The food at this place was outstanding. The fried veggies were coated in a beer batter fried to perfection. This isn't your standard battered and fried junk that gets all soggy and full of oil. I recommend the fried pickles with the Louisiana remoulade. After the veggies I got my hands on some burgers of the Delaware and Louisiana variety. Well, the bar is open until 4 am on the weekends. That's good. The drinks are weak, not good. Every time I've been there around 1 o'clock in the morning, there is nothing going on. Any bands that have played have already torn down and it seems as though the bar were about to close, even though there's like three hours left until they lock the doors. We went there on Halloween weekend expecting something to be going on. Nope, same grumpy bartenders and "Brothers and Sisters" on the projected screen. Really? That's the best you can do on Halloween weekend. I know this is a suburban bar, but it's lame. So much potential though.

History of Brixie's, fine drinking establishment in the lovely town of Brookfield, IL - according to Mister Aurore L, former resident who used to haunt the locale on a regular basis between 1987 and 2005: 1 - in the beginning, the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. 2 - the plot of land used to be a watering hole where bison came to quench their thirst by the thousands, even breaking the ice in the winter to achieve that purpose. 'Break ice' is actually the etymology of the name Brixie's (deformed and transformed over time. See rules of historic phonetics for more details) 3 - in 1934 a family of immigrants lost their construction business because of the economic crisis and decided to open a bar. They decided to call it Brixies to honor their past (brixies = brick + ksi - ksi being a pressure unit kilo per square inch). They heard later the rumors about the watering hole, and thought it was a very happy coincidence. 4 - in 1987, Mister Aurore L discovered the place. At the time it was licensed as a package goods store and had shelves and shelves of liquors and a tiny bar. 5 - M. A. L. became a regular, got drunk and sick for the first time within its walls and learned how to become a pool shark feared by the most ferocious players. He will tell you of his exploits on occasions, when he's in the mood and doesn't feel too hungry. (Tip: you can buy him off with fried chicken) 6 - M. A. L. took A. L. one night to meet his friends and when she wasn't impressed with it, decided to cut all ties and vowed to never come back. He cried for days. Brixie's would have to - if it could have. 7 - A. L. made her debuts at the pool - under the patronage of the former hero of the place. She totally flipped. That was a flop. 8 - M. A. L and A. L. went to Brixie's one night after hearing marvels about their burgers. They discovered much to their surprise that the place had had a face lift, and lost a couple of pool tables but was definitely inviting. Among its charms: - a juke box - two dartboards - a super cool retro looking little booth in a corner - 32 beers on tap - more than 100 beer by the bottle!!!!!! - late opening hours, we are talking about 4am during the weekend, 2am otherwise (kitchen hours differ) - $8.50 for the Hotter Than Hell burger served on a pretzel bun with jalapeno slices (13 of them on mine), smoked gouda, chipotle aioli and a big, thick, juicy patty of meat. KRAZY DELISH. - $5.50 for make you own mac'n'cheese - pretty dilapidated bathroom stalls - it's a must. Totally worth the trip kids. Be a part of history, go to Brixie's!

For a bar way the hell out here, it's not bad at all. They have a very nice selection of taps, and it exists somewhere between dive and brewpub. There's a bunch of pool tables, and it seems to fill up later. Played here a bunch way back when, and generally there were a bunch of cover bands with the odd original act. Juke is average suburb juke. Crowd is average crowd for out here, though I didn't notice it being all that young...ages seemed to be 21-50. If you're in the hood I would say it's one of the better bets for a beer aficionado.

Brixie's is an OK bar, depending upon what you are looking for. The biggest plus of this place is that they have a very respectable beer selection (thirty-two on tap, total of around a hundred kinds would be my guess). This is the only place I know of in the area that you can get some great Belgian beers. They also have TVs, pool tables, juke box and FREE bacon. The place is basically a big dive bar with a much better then average beer selection. Brixie's hasn't done very much in the way or remodeling or decorating; it's unattractive but the bar up front is pretty nice. Brixie's, on average, attracts a more younger crowd then other spots in the area. In a way, Brixie's feels like your hanging out at a bar in a party-college-town. Weekends can get pretty rowdy there. They keep a couple bouncers up front and I have had my share of trouble with some drunks. When the place closes down for the night, a cop is often parked outside to keep the peace. Expect to see some idiots if you walk in the door. For example, they had a guy pull out a gun not too long ago (didn't shoot), and on another night some guy punched a cop in the face while they were arresting his girlfriend for starting a fight. As someone else stated, the men's bathroom is atrocious. I think it would be more hygienic if they put some porta-johns out in their parking lot.

I went in for game 3 of the Blackhawks finals on a Wed. night. I hadn't been in the place for ages and they have changed a bit. First off the beer list is great but it is very heavy on American and Canadian beer. This isn't Palmers where if you throw a dart on a map they'll have a beer from whatever country you hit. It is a very strong draft list (32 or so) and the bottle list is extensive as well. I enjoyed a few Oberons while watching the game. They do have a kitchen now and the first thing on the menu is a maple bacon donut! Need I say more? Have one of those after a few cold ones and it's like you've died and gone to heaven. The service was pretty good- Jackie and Bruce were able to keep everyone happy and not waiting. I ordered the salami pesto panini and loaded fries to bring home. The fries were very good and I definitely couldn't finish them. The sandwich was fine, but nothing to really write home about. Good basic food which is what I was looking for. The bathrooms definitely need work as well as the booths. But I will be back for Wed. Warrior- where I can get a free t-shirt, and I'll have to go on a Monday for FREE BACON!!!. I don't go to deal with the after hours crowd. It's open late but that part of my life is long gone. Just give me a good beer in a pleasant place and I'm happy.

Growing up in LaGrange, Brixie's was/is the late night hang out for anyone living in the area. The beer selection is top notch, there are a couple of pool tables, dart boards,juke box and a stage where mediocre cover bands play. The place can get a bit rowdy as the night lingers on, and usually there's somebody there drunk and pissed off ready to get in to it with somebody. Pretty interesting place to go because you see people from all walks of life. Kind of like the cantina scene from Star Wars, except no weird alien band playing (at least not that I've seen). .

I'm gonna make this short the beer selection is AMAZING they have a lot of great beers on tap sometimes they will host a little beer tasting I saw a RUSH cover band there once, they were great I'm not a bar goer because I hate american bars and the people who attend them, but this is one place where you can try some really great beer and that's about it. If you like a bar with great beer selection try Cigars and Stripes on Ogden in Berwyn.

The only reason this one doesn't get 5 stars is, well, maybe the airplane sized bathrooms that look like they belong in a frat house basement during a kegger. Which doesn't really bother me btw...but the chick doesn't dig it. Besides that, the bar style food & fine craft beer selection is AWESOME. No freezer in this joint I'm told -- all the grub is fresh. Good bands too. Wish I lived closer to this place. No outdoor action though.

Alright. Here's the deal... This place isnt' especially awful. It's a bar you'd love to love, but the crowd just effing sucks. So goes the curse of being the ONLY bar that's open 'till 4 in the area. I.E. every douche-bag in the Western Suburbs will come here when their bar closes and try to park their Intrepid in the woefully inadequate parking lot. I'm not sure about now but the bartenders were VERY cool, and can put a drink to a face. They also have an INCREDIBLE selection of beer on tap for a random suburban bar/cave. The previous poster was right, the digital juke box is center stage here, which is weird because it's just a tiny thing mounted on the wall. Thank God for tech-mology -- it means you can have every crap Top-40 song on "The Box" and still have room for The Smith's singles collection and Surfer Rosa. I hate to be the typical indie bastard, but I was here first. I was! Everyone must exit and leave me to my 3-1-2 in peace. Brixies used to have a stage in the back-left corner of the bar -- it hosted local music, mainly local blues, and it was terrif'. They've since demolished the "stage" (it was pretty much elevated plywood), and FINALLY made room for a foosball table. Can you sense the sarcasm in that sentence? I can never tell. I have a theory: The more pool tables-per-bar the worse the bar. Brixies has, hmmmm, maybe 6 pooltables. Think about it. Also, my friend's hippie neigbor used to buy his dimebag's out begind this place. Drugs are bad. That's what I've been told. In Summary: 4am bars are the great eqaulizer. Roll in here at 2:30 and soak in the involuntary melting-pot. "Oh look! Goths, preps, 'indie' kids, underage kids, off-shift LaGrange waitresses, Caribou Coffee employees, that werid older guy who shouldn't go to bars anymore, a small latina playing pool with really short arms... " They're all here. ...I should stop writing reviews whilst buzzed. BTW. Hot Chip is great. Get someone to YSI it to you.

Heaven has a name. And it's called Brixie's. Where else can I go to get 20 different ales, beers, and stouts on tap all in a dive bar converted garage atmosphere? And they have my all time favorite, Point Pale Ale on tap. And the night I went, they had it on special for $2 a pint! I was also able to sample a now favorite of mine, a breakfast stout. It was rich, creamy, thick, and just out-of-this-world tasty. There were pool tables and dartboards aplenty, along with a few stellar bartenders. The atmosphere is dive-ish, with cement floors, and doctor's office waiting room cast-off furniture in the corners. I was here early in the evening, but noted that it is a 4am bar, just in case I ever need a late night beer stop. There was only one thing that needed improvement. The bathrooms were very frightening. The stall was so tiny, and the doors swung out. So there I am with my knees butted up against the door, and trying to hold it closed with one hand. After that nearly acrobatic feat of using the facilities, I had to slow down my beer intake, since I really didn't want to go through that again.

I had the opportunity to meet a group of friends up here for a couple of drinks. I was here early so I fortunately missed the obnoxious late crowd. The beer selection here was amazing. I got all excited to find out that they had Point beer on tap! The Point Pale Ale was only $2 a pint on special. YUM Point is my favorite beer from Wisconsin! OK I digress! The Point Beer is what gave this bar the bump from three stars to four. This place is a major dive which is most likely why I liked it..

a late-night bar - it is fairly dingy and there are many characters here - but you know what? there are a TON of beers here, they always have a good special, the decor is hilarious (think old-timey neon signs and upholstered seats) and you will always find someone to talk to, especially the bartenders. yes, they used to have a better music scene - i don't know what happened to that. trixies and chads?? WTF? try blue collar. some people can trend towards the white trash, maybe. i can't imagine where the trixie/chad thing is coming from.

I feel the need to defend my old stomping ground against Greg S.'s review. Ok, it is a sports bar, but a trixie/chad bar it's not. Brixie's is the place you go to when you want to see people that you went to high school and possibly college with. It's a decent bar with a good beer selection. Oh, and going on Christmas Day night? One of the best times to go b/c you'll see the real drinkers out (and maybe a few ex-boyfriends)!

This is NOT the place it used to be. Any review of this place before Aug. of 2009 before they had food shouldn't even be considered. Personally I think they should actually change their name. The menu is very small, but AMAZING. The BEST burger you will ever have and there are many interesting styles to get it that actually represent regions of the country. Like you can get a Delaware burger, or my favorite is the Alabama. The fries start their life at Brixie's as potatoes. They're handcut and never frozen. The beer list is like nothing in the western suburbs. Palmers cannot compete because if you want a really interesting craft brew they actually have so many other beers on tap that the lines get bad and the kegs get old before they run out. Plus, this place does get some things on tap that I have never seen on tap anywhere else- only bottles. The seating isn't great, there aren't booths, the lighting is kinda dim, and it can be very empty, but the food and beer make visiting the new and improved Brixie's a must. Send out the word about this place and then maybe when you go in, you won't be alone!

Ah Brixies, I love this place. It's a dive bar and has bad ass bathrooms to prove it. Doesn't pretend to me anything more than a dive bar with a great beer selection, interesting regulars, cheapo prices and bar grub that I've never tried. Brixie's is an historic landmark. I used to go there in the 70's. Back then they served premium beers as long as you liked Strohs, Olympia, Old Syle, Bud or Miller. They had a large menu consisting of Tombstone Pizza, pretzels and maybe popcorn. The building used to have a liquor store in the front half so the bar was half the size it is today. The 70's crowd was always an eclectic cross-section of people. Pat Paulsen who was a regular on the Smothers Brothers show stopped in. He ran for President 6 times. There were judges, politicians, members of bands (some famous), radio people, bikers, cops and regular people. It was rumored that the people who developed the TV show Cheers stopped in one night. This was before the show ever aired. One patron claimed to get a business card from one of the people. The bar was 99% peaceful. Not a lot of Harleys back then, it was the AMF days and Harleys were junk back then. If there was a fight, the bartenders found they were easier to breakup up if the fighters had already landed a couple of punches on each other. One bouncer, back then, was great. He could handle any trouble and still had a twisted and hilarious sense of humor. If he was there you were going to have a good time and nobody would bother you. I believe his father-in-law shot him to death a couple of years later. That was very sad. The most exciting thing I ever heard of at Brixie's was in '77 or '78 when Jack Ryder rode his Harley through the place. he had a tough time making the turn around the pool table, but he made it. He was banned for life. He died a while later so the ban stuck. I have stopped in Brixie's from time to time and the bar is nothing like the 70's, it's much much better. The atmosphere is great and the beer selection is unbelievable. You can also get real, great tasting food there. The only issue I have is that there is no Blatz on tap. No place is perfect. Enjoy Brixie's, you'll be very glad you did.

For those of you who complain Galloping Ghost Arcade doesn't serve alcohol, this is why. Only a four minute walk from the biggest and best arcade in the world is a dive bar that will definitely answer your need for booze after getting your ass kicked by Krang and Shredder on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the millionth time. Brixie's has a great selection of draft and bottled beers, including a pineapple cider that I am crushing out on so hard right now. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, and will definitely help you make a selection from the many choices or whip up a cocktail of your choice in no time. As many reviewers here have mentioned, Brixie's does attract the full spectrum of humanity at any given point of the day. But if you're playing video games at 1 in the morning, it's comes with the territory. Walk in here knowing you've signed a contract to see life's, ahem, RICH pageant at any given moment. And don't worry. The muscle at the door makes sure nothing gets out of hand. They've got television and pool tables along with a jukebox for playing your favorites and a live stage for bands. The only thing that could make Brixie's better is the menu. It's a dive bar, so the food is gonna be a bit rough. They do have daily specials to help make spending money on food a bit more paletable (pun intended). If you want to booze out while playing video games, elbowing for room on a busted cabinet of Mortal Kombat that doesn't have a working block button, stay in the city at Headquarters. If you want a clean separation of game and beer that keeps both sides pure, come to Galloping Ghost and Brixie's.

This is like a Craftheads paradise! They have what seems like an endless line of craft beer on tap, Whiskeys to sample, and to top it off...DELICOUS FOOD! Oh did I also mention the video gaming, pool table and five pinball machines? That's just the tip of it. There are a lot of locals here, so you will also get the local bar charm with it's mix of characters (so far we've only encountered the good mix, but i've heard stories!) It is also located a block down from the Galloping Ghost, an amazing arcade, and Tony's Diner..home to great comfort food. But I don't want to take away from this review, so onto the rest. The bartenders at this place know their shit when it comes to beers. If you tell them exactly what you are looking for, they can rattle off beers that suit your needs and even let you sample them to make sure it's what you absolutely want. If that isn't awesome, I don't know what is. Amongst the chalkboards listing their beers, flavor of the week, whiskeys, and shots....they have an event board listing the days that different breweries will be taking over their taps and showcasing their stuff We definitely plan to be back!

Hooooly taps. No exaggerating, 20+ unique taps to choose from and you'd never expect it from the look of the place from the exterior. We came here for the first time on Sunday and were very pleased to try a flight containing 7oz each of 4 different beers/ciders we've never had before. The bartender knew what was up - not annoying or unnecessarily pushy. The fellow patrons were unique and made for and enjoyable people watching experience. There seems to be a lot going on during the week as well (trivia, live music, etc). Food isn't good by any means, but that's why you order after a few rounds. Overall a very cool, relaxed hangout for craft beer enthusiasts and divey bar lovers.

Showed up around 10pm on a Friday.. Wasn't too packed, spacious layout, garage doors were open for fresh air, decent prices for drinks, tons of different beers, good whiskey, Malort!, average bar food, friendly & knowledgeable bartenders, plenty locals, plenty TVs, slot machines, pool/game room area, comfortable atmosphere.. Let's just say, people don't go here for food. We got nachos and fried pickles and they were both the worst food I've ever touched. I'll update later if I get sick from the two bites I took. As for the beers- amazing selection, nice bartender. We were happy they had bells, rev brew and my favorite; Allagash. Didn't check out bathrooms but overall, they were probably as minimal as the bar decor is.

And the service from Brittany was excellent. Note I read reviews that say it is a "dive bar." I would just call it "unassuming" which is a good thing.

My friend told me I couldn't steal his description, so I won't, but it was so fitting and he only beat me to it because I was laughing about my bathroom mishap. Whatevs. There was a part of me that really liked this place. The garage doors, the general feel, THE BEER LIST, the back wall of poker machines (which in turn made it feel like some seedy dive, or Reno)...that all made me smile. Then again, the table of guys who looked like my high school group of friends was a little much for me. I'll go to almost any bar as long as there is good beer. It's an added bonus when it's cheap. I wouldn't say it was cheap, but it wasn't overpriced either. Clever burger descriptions and a menu that actually sounded appealing. Can't comment on the food though, I was there to drink. Seems a little odd that their kitchen closes well before the bar does, but hey, to each their own. Surprisingly clean bathroom. I broke the seal before arriving here, and nothing is worse than breaking the seal and having to use an awful bathroom many times. Not the case here! Through the pool room and to the left. Don't bump into anyone's cue, they don't look like the type that would find it funny. I'll give Brixie's this. The bartender we had actually knew how to describe beer. I know this seems silly, but you'd be surprised how many places will have a solid beer menu and then say "it's good" as a description.

Upon reading reviews for Brixie's I can draw one conclusion: it absolutely depends what time you go there. If you arrive before they roll down the garage doors (AKA dark), you'll find a north side esque bar stocked with rare beer finds. If this is your last stop of the night(and everyone else's), it will obviously be a sticky, "divey", dirty-bathroom mess (duh?). I live in North Carolina but I stop at Brixie's every single time I'm back home in Brookfield. I looooove the beer selection. I only give 4 stars bc sometimes the jukebox is disabled and the staff's choice is pretty lousy and specific. Loud death metal-y stuff isn't a crowd pleaser for someone who wants to sit and converse and have several beers at your spot! Save that for after hours.

This has been a local spot for my friends and I to watch Monday Night Football for the last few years. There is a lot to like about this spot. PLUSES: Great beer selection of both imports and craft beers, a relaxed environment, and when it's nice outside, garage doors they leave open for a wonderful breeze. Also, huge projection screen, pinball, and (as the trailer park boys would say) VLT's (video gambling). I also really like the bartenders here. Usually nice and play good music. MINUSES: the food is pretty substandard, nothing really to plug here. Eat before hand, then come get drunk here. BEST PART: Free baskets of BACON for every beer you order on Mondays!!! Limit tow per customer, but that seems to be more of a suggestion. Also Monday Trivia nights at 9!

With such a large list of beer to choose from one might wonder how do I know what to get, fear not my fellow pub crawlers, ask the bar tender and they will be more than happy to fill you a few samples so you can either A. see what you like or B. see what mood you are in. Brixe's is as good as it gets! it's no high class cocktail bar but they have a great selection of craft beers & a even larger shelf of beers in bottle or can. I almost wish I was hungry as those fresh cut fries and burgers on a pretzel bun looked amazing. If I was still in my pool hall days I would venture out here just for billiard area it is phenomenal for someone who digs the bring on all comers atmosphere. wrap around couches circumference the area for those who want to scout their prey.

I went here for a fundraiser and the waitress/bar tender a female with short hair was just very rude, and snapped when I ask her for a water. I wasn't the only person I seen her talk like that too. This place is great. If you enjoy craft beer, this place is a MUST. I'd even go so far as to say it's probably the best craft beer bar in Chicagoland. My reasoning for this bold statement are as follows: - Amazing lineup of beers (always changing). Some of the beers are really hard to find. - Prices are reasonable. In a city where people pay $7 for a Green Line "craft beer," getting a real craft beer for $5-7 seems like a good deal. They also have good specials. - The owner and most of the staff are very knowledgeable about the beers they serve - Good mix of people populate this bar. From locals to hipsters to blue collar and everyone in-between. I've never had the food, but it looks pretty decent. The only reason I hesitate to give this 5/5 stars is that the clientele gets a little scuzzy late night.

To be blunt: your fries sucked. Unless you like soggy oil laden limp dong taters. It's not 100% your fault. No, I blame America's casual dining industry that's suddenly all about "natural" "hand cut" fries. But they're only good if you cook them correctly! They need to be fried twice. Par cooked in the fryer, rested, dried, and refried! If you can't be bothered to do it correctly then just buy a bag of skin on frozen fries and be done with it. Fries!!! Have some respect!

It's like some hipster bar in Chicago and a white trash dive bar from the suburbs fornicated and Brixie's was born. And relatives from both sides of the family show up at the reunion, comingle and get drunk. We all know that has the potential to lead to fights and other silliness, but no family is perfect. I actually kinda love this place, and I have to give it up for the co-worker who recommended it to me. Beer is key and they had an all-star lineup. Three Floyd's Zombie Dust, Bell's Hop Slam, and Dogfish Head 90 Minute on tap? I'm game. That doesn't even scratch the surface of their menu but when I heard they had those, it was enough to get me to stop in after dinner. They have some nice selections in bottles and cans as well. The atmosphere is divey. Whether it's genuinely divey or deliberate for irony is yet to be determined, but it's comfortable. There's pool tables, pinball machines, and darts amongst other things to keep you occupied if you so desire. I'm just curious to find out if they open those garage doors in the summer. If so, I'll even bring my own lawn chair. Brixie's might not be for everybody, as it's a little rough around the edges. It only takes one visit to realize they attract some odd characters. If you're female, make sure to bring a friend or two.

I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I love Brixies! Some people call this a dive-- I mean, it does have garage doors that make it "open air" in the summer, but they've been doing some nice upgrading. Even though I'm not much for beer, I've been convinced to try it there and have been pleasantly surprised. Even more surprising is how good their food is. I love going to Brixies, and showing people that consider themselves beer snobs this place. Everyone ends up leaving impressed and satisfied! They have a projector for the big games, pool, a few pinball machines and your standard circle table and stools. I've never had a bad experience.

This place was one of my regular bars when I lived in the area about 6-7 years ago. That being said, this place is great if you're under 25 and appreciate the company of douchebags and hipsters. Its only redeeming quality is the beer selection, but I can find the same selection in a more relaxed environment.

the owners/bartenders were very down-to-earth. The place has a pretty cool selection of brews & there's enough pool tables to accomodate a pretty good crowd of people at a given time. I'm sure I'll be back!

$5 craft draft list is all u need to know yo! i've been coming here for years. After a few remodels, they really got it down. Their Nachos are pretty good. On Tuesdays they have free soup! the beer list changes regularly! my suggestion. go here on a weekday for some quality beers. Then go back on the weekend with friends and have a great time including a PBR tallboy and a shot of Malort for $5!. its a really social place with a lot of Brookfield young adults ;) they got pool tables, video gambling and 2 pinball machines that usually rotate often.

Big space, big beautiful beer list and better-than-expected bar food. Those are 3 good Bs to have for a bar, I'd say. Beer prices were straightforward and the list of options was bountiful. Plenty of space to sit or stand to chat or even play some arcade games and shoot some pool.

My favorite bar in the burbs - great beer list, heavy liquor pours, awesome food and great bartenders! I have been visiting Paul and Bruce for years now and have seen this place really evolve from a dive to an...attractive dive. No matter the renovations that are made, this is still a dive, and I hope it stays that way. Great atmosphere, EXCEPT when a band is playing because it's so loud you can't carry a conversation!

I hate being sweaty in a bar. :: Seating was limited - especially with a fairly popular band playing that evening. Apparently Brixie's is the place to be - especially for you beer snobs over there. It's not necessarily my scene, but it's definitely a good place worth hanging out with a group of friends at. Would I go back?? Sure. I just wish I liked beer more - I'd probably get more of a kick out of it!

Great beer selection. They actually had a kick butt selection long before it became trendy. Maybe they just liked good beer or they seen the writing on the walk. I spent a New Year's Eve there a. Purple years back and don't regret it a bit.

The review you are about to read is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent. Except no one at a 4am bar is innocent so the story remains the same. On any given night (or wee morning hours) of the week, you can find 30+ top quality craft beers on tap here. 5 stars. To say that Brixie's is an institution would be a vast understatement. This bar is older than my grandmother, made it through the Great Depression, saw the first man on the moon, and probably partied like it was 1999 the whole way through. 5 stars. Now, any bar that's been able to stick around for so long is bound to have a few quirks, and I'd say Brixie's main eccentricities come in the form of it's customers. Don't be scurred, just be prepared for an experience that could be filed under peculiar, offbeat (in a good way), and/or downright bizarre... but keeps you coming back for more. IMO, 5 stars. On the (late) night of the BF and my visit, we walked into a somewhat sparsely populated bar and the always outstanding beer list. We took some seats at the bar and were promptly served by a bartender who had been beer-tending at the big B for 18 years, now. Low turnover is generally always a sign of a great bar. A few rounds of craft beer and a foursquare check in later, we're googling the place to see what it's story is and learning a hell of a lot about Malort in the meantime. ::cringe:: As we do this, we notice another patron at the bar trying to get our attention. We'd been trying our best to ignore the 50 something feathered haired gentlemen because we were almost certain that only a few minutes prior he was barking like a dog, but in a pirate accent (picture it, people) in our general direction. We finally acknowledged his grumblings as he asked us what we were doing on our "machine." The machine was my BFs iphone and apparently he was implicating us in his conspiracy theory that we were controlling the bar's music from our phone. He seemed upset, so in an attempt to ease his worries the bartender showed him the knobs behind the bar for the volume control... unfortunately, it did not control the volume level of the voices in his head.To him, we were still a threat. To be fair, we were a little buzzed and began to egg him on a bit. The BF would point his "machine" in his direction and I'd ahem little things about Elvis still being alive and my involvement as the second shooter. Date night was going along quite swimmingly. Now, if I had to describe how he looked, I'd say Jim Caviezel at about 56 after he went crazy from getting struck by lightning twice during passion of the Christ. This is your brain on lightning... and too much Christ, and maybe a few 'Nam flashbacks as well. At one point he told my BF, the guy next to me, and myself that we're "fucked". Still not sure what that meant but the guy next to me (a regular) was a little uncomfortable with the idea. Then, he began reminiscing about when he could: A. Smoke in bars while... B. Getting sucked off by whores. After this, the bartender told him to watch his mouth in front of the lady (ahem, he was talking about moi ::in a dainty voice::). The bartender's scolding appeared to profoundly affect him as he 'tapped out' from the bar and headed over to the jukebox to create a classic rock carnival for our ears. The music appeared to calm him, though he did at one point threaten to give the BF a 'knuckle sammich' for agreeing with him, then 10 seconds later they were all good in the hood. Mood swings can be a b*tch, bro. Brixie's: proving that awesome things can happen after 2am. Moral of the story: Making friends is fun and having great beer in an exciting, fast paced, environment is even better. 5 stars.

The entertainment was amazing. And I'm not just talking about the band. If Brixie's continuously attracts the winners that make me bust out laughing with the case of the giggles, then I'm sold. Brixie's is the place to be. Of course the giggles might have been from the wonderful craft beer selection that I sampled that night (but I really know it was from some missed-the-mark comments a cute young man was making, obviously trying to make conversation with a lady in our group. I am soooo not getting a Christmas card from Erin this year) So when the Michael Phelps doppelganger left, we were free to enjoy the music. It was a nice summer evening so the garage doors were open. Even with them open, the music /acoustics were pretty loud so that we were left to shouting at each other throughout the evening. The food was meh. I got the BLT but reading reviews now, I think I should have gone with a burger. But the real star is the 30 plus craft brew list on tap. Since I'm an old lady, I'd pass on band nights and just come to try a new brew and enjoy some pool. Attack of the giggles may or may not be included.

Stopped by after spending a few hours at Galloping Ghost. I needed to refuel. It was a Saturday night, and I was able to get a bar stool. I love the burbs. Laura served me up an Alpha King as I looked over the menu. Food is one page and beer is another. Short and sweet. They have their wall behind the bar full of tappers of many micro brews. 2 or 3 locals, (TF, Revolution, Goose Island) I was hoping they had Zombie Dust, but no luck. Maybe next time. I ordered the Dude Abides burger. Half pound burger with cheddar and bleu cheese even though I think it was supposed to be only one cheese, but they gave me both. Pretzel bun completes it. Fresh cut fries. The way mother would make it. They don't look pretty, but they go with the burger amazingly. The beer and food here are great. You would have to go in the city to get this type of food, beer selection, but you would be waiting 2 hours to get a seat. This will be my new bar to grab a brew after work (Oak Brook). I know in Romeoville, there is no place like this. The Atmosphere is great in here. Some locals, some people just passing by or from the arcade down the street. You can easily pass this place up driving by. Pinball, pool, darts in one area of the place. Juke box where I played some Eagles hehe.....and Bob Seger. Stage in another area. Very open feel to the place. The server Laura is a doll. She loves microbrews herself as she sat on a stool after a shift change, and had a brew. I will have to visit this place after work on a weekday!

It's a dive-ish bar with delicious burgers and fries and lots of beers on tap. I much prefer Brixie's over Palmer Place. A good place to hang out with friends or to grab a bite to eat and a couple of beers.

After finding out about the craft beer selection at Brixie's through stalking the pages of my yelp friends, I obviously had to go. It's a good thing I waited until now because the bar just had a "Three Floyd's Explosion" (their words, not mine) and I was able to drink some of my beloved Zombie Dust while I was there. SCORE! They also had Revolution's Anti-Hero IPA which I LOVE so I was quite happy (Or hoppy. See what I did there?). The bar itself is a little VFW looking (a fact that my husband let me know about 6 times...I guess he was a little scurred) but I don't care what a place looks like as long as it has awesome craft beer. I don't even care if the glass is clean (here it was though, no worries). The bar has been around forever so I think it has character, but if you are squicked out by being somewhere that has randomly placed tables and chairs and garage doors, don't come here. There are also pool tables, dart boards, a pinball machine, and a jukebox so really there's a lot to do if you get antsy after all your craft beer drinking and don't want to go down the street to The Galloping Ghost Arcade (which many people do) to spend your energy. There is a good mix of people here too: townies, bikers, hipsters, you name it. Point is, you don't have to be a _______ to come here. (I came here on a Friday night around 8 to give you a frame of reference). The food was really good too. My husband and I both had cheeseburgers and hand-cut fries. The man ordered a Dude Abides burger (how can you not, really?) and it was far out. (Please tell me you know what part of the movie that is from) I had the El Diablo (add crumbled bleu cheese) and it was AWESOME. Fiery, cheesy, and spicy mayo goodness. I love the pretzel buns, the fries, and the burgers were cooked perfectly. I will be back. See you there.

Nice local dive bar. Went on a Saturday night and it wasnt crowded at all. Was able toget a table and didnt have to wait on drinks. Nice space and decent prices. This place had a gameroom area with a couple pool tables dartboard and pinball machines. Will most likely come back and check this place out once the weather gets a bit warmer to get the full experience of this place with the garage doors open!

I stopped into Brixie's to take a break from some nostalgic arcade gaming down the street at Galloping Ghost. It is within walking distance. It was about 5PM on a Saturday and the seats at the bar were already mostly full, but we were able to snag two free seats on the end. The place is pretty large with an open floor plan. It is loosely divided into three sections, the bar, pool/pinball area, and a general table and stage area. It has a bit of dive bar feel to it... not in a bad way, but just putting it out there. Sitting at the bar I was disappointed by the stale smell of spilled beer. I know that it does not need to be this way because I go to other bars that do not suffer from this smell. Monica, the bartender was very friendly and made us feel welcome right away. Despite her friendliness, they still take your credit card to hold open a tab. They don't just scan it, they literally hold it in a plastic bowl filled with everyone's credit cards. I watched them sequentially search through this bowl many times during the hours that I was there in order to find someone's card. I understand that Brixie's is a big place and it would be difficult to keep track of every customer, but I still don't like their system. A corollary to that involves the ordering of drinks. I sat at the bar, but observed that there doesn't appear to be any table service. This led to a never-ending stream of people coming to the bar to order drinks. They would simply say the last name on the card to get those drinks put on their tab. I wonder if anyone has ever scammed by saying a different name. Before we ever stepped inside, we had heard that the beer selection was great. Once we were at the bar, we found that there was plenty of excellent choices on the menu to keep us happy. (Maybe too many considering how much I drank!) I am writing this review about a month after my visit, so although I took notes, all I wrote down was that the beer was great with plentiful choices, so I cannot name anything I had. The selection and price (mentioned below) is what earned Brixie's four stars. The beer prices were very reasonable at Brixie's. Many beers that I am familiar with were $1 less than at other places and they didn't use the smaller glass trick either. I don't often visit Brookfield, so I don't know how the location fits into this "discount". The food was good. I had heard about the burgers and the one I had was yummy along with the fries. The mac and cheese was huge. I got it with bacon and bell peppers. Unfortunately it wasn't cheesy enough for me. Brixie's needs to cut down on the huge portion and put more cheese in it. Overall I enjoyed my visit to Brixie's. I had several interesting conversations with my fellow patrons at the bar. The bartenders took good care of me. The beer selection was very good. I don't make it to the area very often, but the next time I am in the mood for some classic video games, I will definitely stop by Brixie's.

Fantastic draf beer selection. I love when they open the garage doors in the summer - it's almost like you're outside. This place has just the right amount of "dive-y-ness" yet it's clean and the bathrooms aren't too scary. Haven't tried the food but I'm sure we'll return for a burger and a great draft beer.

If you go to bars for the decor and cleaniness, this isn't your place. But you if value quality beer selection, come here. After 2am, the douche bags show up. I've come here at 9pm, had a blast until the place filled with after hours people and just left. I think my boyfriend said you could smell trouble in the air. Anyways, don't get hung up on how unpleasant looking a place is. They've got a pool table, some dart boards, and a great selection of draft beers. I never used to drink specialty beers until I was here and started trying things.

Brixie's kitchen is now open on Sundays. This is a huge breakthrough in quality of life for west burb beer lovers. We went yesterday and the new bartender, Laura, is very friendly and knowledgeable about the beer selections. As usual the beer list was astronomically off the charts in excellence, and the burger and fries were perfect. We tried the new hush puppies - not recommended. Tried the chili - it was fine for chili, I'm not a fan in general, but lots of meat and the flavor was good. Cole slaw - dressing way too heavy all of a sudden. Keep it real, Brixie's, you're awesome.

If you haven't been to Brixie's since the late 90's, you have to see the changes. One of the best craft beer selections anywhere in Chicago (32 taps), and even though I'm a beer geek, I find something new every time I go (which is often, so the selection rotates often!). The kitchen is doing some really good bar fare...the pretzel roll burgers are great. With a friendly and knowledgeable staff that welcomes even the beer novice, and an eclectic clientele each night, Brixie's has become a great hangout!

Don't let those reviews below trick you. This place is still a dive. Oh great, they redid the floors...the tables are still wobbly, the stools have rips, the place is dingy and dark, noone is there before 2am when the other bars close, the bathrooms are disgusting and way too small and the bands that play there usually suck. However, i still go here, because it is the only place in the area open late. They have an extensive beer list, but I couldn't care less about that. If there was any other place open til 4am in the area, you'd see me there instead on my late nights.

Finally went to Brixies because they had Zombie Dust on tap on their beer menu....too late....all gone :( Still had some excellent beers on tap and enjoyed a couple with our meal. I had the Mac and Cheese and my friend had the Brixie Burger. She enjoyed it and the fries that come with it were pretty good. The Mac and Cheese was kind of uninspired, but the perfectly al dente macaroni (hard to find with mac and cheese) made up for the good but not great sauce. Service was good and we enjoyed ourselves. I will definitely be back to belly up to the bar and sample some great beer on tap. I would sum Brixies up as "everyman's Palmer Place" - and the beer is cheaper!!!

A local comfy place with quality food and a pretty big beer selection. This is a no non sense place. Jeans and a tshirt are what you should wear and a burger is what you should eat. Theres a few pool tables, tvs and dart boards. If youre looking to have a laid back night this is the place for you.

I always thought this was some small stupid bar with hooded twenty somethings always seen outside smoking while passing by on Ogden Avenue. Well one day there were none of them and I decided to catch a crucial football game. The place was more spacious than I thought and they had a large screen television perfect for a big game. There was a pool table and the food looked pretty decent. Not a really large beer selection but more than adequate and necessary. This place wasn't half bad.

Brixie's has a great selection of craft beers - bottles and on tap. Prices are great, and they have plenty of deals during the week. Food is typical bar food, the fries are very tasty. Great location, right on Ogden with a decent size parking lot. I was there last week and was impressed by the waitress/bartender. She was alone, but quick and friendly, which was a good surprise considering the place was full. The place also has 2 pool tables ($1 per game). It would be awesome if customers didn't have to pay for a game of pool while enjoying a beer. Unfortunately Brixie's like most bars in the area introduced video gaming in the bar, which can be noisy and distracting. Generally though - a great neighborhood bar!

They are 4 stars only because I can't ever imagine some place ever getting 5. That being said Jorge's "Famous pork tacos" are worth 5 stars alone. The slow roasted smoky pork topped by cilantro and onions tacos with an excellent side Chipotle flavored sauce are unbelievably good for under $8!

BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!! GRUNGY CRAFT BEER BAR ALERT!!!! BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!! GRUNGY CRAFT BEER BAR ALERT!!!! BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!! GRUNGY CRAFT BEER BAR ALERT!!!! Love this place. Excellent craft beer selection, and they are open until 4am. One of the few bars with a good craft selection not too far from the western/south suburbs that is open that late. They get things that very few other bars get, and they also do their own special Randal treatments occasionally (running Bourbon County Stout through vanilla beans or coffee or other spices as an example). Reasonably priced too. Do a shot of Malort if you're up for it. Has that dive bar feel to it, which I dig. Some pool tables and dart boards if that's your thing. Music is normally not overly loud. I have run into some "interesting" other customers when I am there, it attracts all walk of life. Never had any food, but for a bar, it's just what I want. Gotta grow my beard out a little more before I go back though. Definitely wish it was a little closer to me so I can go more often, but I make it a point to go when I can.

I have been wanting to stop in at Brixie's for a long time. I finally did today after the car show in Brookfield. I knew they had a kick ass selection of craft brews but to see all the taps on the wall was just awesome! The place is a little stark. Plain bar, few tables spewed about, few TV's on the wall, pool table, what looked like a stage, a few garage doors. Nothing to look at really. Since this was Sunday afternoon it was pretty empty so I imagine once the crowd rolls in it adds to the lack of decor. Lets face it I didn't come for atmosphere, I came for burgers and beer. The beer selection is probably the best I have ever seen. The huge cooler behind the bar is awesome! The burger, Joliet Jake, was delicious! The chips not so much. The beer, two different IPA's were both great! The bartender knew her beer and the cook knew her kitchen. I will be back. Next time I will bring my wife so I can try a lot more beers.

I don't know what it is about this place, but I keep hearing "the freaks come out at night" in the back of my mind. It doesn't seem to matter at what time or on which day of the week I show up here, I know I'm going to leave feeling violated by someone. And being single for as long as I have, I would consider welcoming some stranger danger and good touch / bad touch, but a good chunk of the customers are straight up creepers. The upside is that my friend and I get to oggle the Greek god of a bartender. Good: My friend and I can show up and know we'll be VIP when her boyfriend is playing a gig. They serve Effen vodka and have grenadine, I've never had to wait longer than 2 minutes to be served. Many beers to choose from. Bad: Dirty, questionable clientele, a deficit of Maraschino cherries.

Brixie's, Brixie's Brixie's!! This place has survived with the cockroaches!! NO!!! it's doesn't have them, but it's been around forever. I think it has to do with their excellent beer selection, lots of room, weekend bands for as long as I remember. I new kitchen and a staff of barteders that are just all around good and friendly. They strike up conversations and remember you from previous visits. It's not Bar Louie people, but we don't need anymore $5 Budweiser bars.... If you and the guys, gals, softball team want a place to drop in with some room, pool tables, darts, etc... give it a try... and if you don't like it... well then... goto Bar Louie!!

The bartenders know their beer here and the selection (Around 30 tappers) rivals bars in the city that are twice as expensive. There's not many places you can get a pint of something like Lagunitas Lil Sumpin Sumpin or Old Rasputin for under $6. Go on their website and check out their beer selection and you won't be dissapointed. They also have $3 whiskey shots every day (rebel yell and maker's mark stand out). And if you're feeling adventurous, ask for a mallort, mallasco or Brookfield Special. Besides the beer, the place is open late, the space is huge and the customers are definetely a mishmosh of people from all walks of life. For the people who complain about the crowds and shady people, you must have been there after 2 am on a weekend, because thats when the crowds are the most hectic. If you are a first timer, come on a weekday early in the evening, kick back at the bar and enjoy a meal (the burgers, chili and fried pickles are all good) or grab a pint and shoot some pool. Defintely a bar to keep in your rotation if you like quality beer at a working man's price.

Life is short, try Malort. Brixie's said to, so you have to. I'd already tried it before, so I skipped it at Brixie's, mainly b/c the bartenders who once concoted the weird Malort cocktails are no longer practicing their particular form of patron torture. Instead we honed in on the beer list. Many good selections to be had here at a reasonable price. I also honed in on the security cam TV. The little corner booth gives you a great view of the whole establishment and the surveillance footage. Not that anything exciting was happening, but it could. Spying not your game? Try pinball or pool. I prefer spying. I tried the fried pickles, which were good but a bit scanty, though at only $3.50, I'm down. My burger was excellent, cooked to order and the beef was very flavorful. Pretzel bun! Handcut fries! Hooray! Boyfriend's make your own mac n cheese was a bit intense. He chose jalapenos as one of the mix ins. His mouth burned off. There was a whole jalapeno sliced into it, with the seeds. I didn't want to try it because I am a wuss, but he was red in the face. Yikes. Eat at your own risk. Despite fire mouth, we had a nice time and Brixie's is just another reason why I'm considering a zoo membership for next year. It's an excellent place to curl up and die after hours of walking and animal viewing. Plenty of room to line up your Mold-a-Rama booty.

So...I kind of hate this place - period. This is weird because I normally ADORE dive bars. It's dirty and it's big. You feel like you'll stick to the floor, the tables, the stools and maybe you do. Hopefully you get too drunk to notice. The thing is, if you're going to be a dirty dive bar, be small and quaint. There's something more daunting about wall to wall gross when there's more square footage. It's dingy. Reading the reviews below, apparently it is a converted garage. Reading this makes me want to give it a higher review cause it makes me think I've missed some kind of subtle charm or kitsch. But no - it's still a rat hole. I can't remember if I've been to the bathrooms here, but I do know that I'd rather go pee in a Taco Bell - it's just that kind of place. The seating - SUCKS. The tables are wobbly and weirdly spread out and then there's something akin to a church pew over near the stage area. Because this place is so icky-tastic, I haven't tried any of the beers off their extenstive list. I suspect they haven't flushed out the lines since the 80s. Therefore, I stick to spirits. That said, I like to mix Effen Black Cherry Vodka (which I'm SHOCKED they have) with Coke. I figure that AT LEAST the Coke guy cleans out the lines once & a while when he delivers the concentrate. Well, it tasted...off. Know why? IT'S RC? Who the HECK offers RC products? GROSS!!! Pretty much sums up the bar as a whole. The patrons are mostly locals and mostly friendly. However, many just look a bit abraisive and come off as ignorant and crass. It could be the alcohol - could just be they're morons. Jury is still out. My one good thing to say about this place is as follows: they do have pool tables...3 of them I believe. I like pool. So, it isn't a total loss. Oh...one other good thing. There is a dark haired man that tends bar who has curly hair that is GORGEOUS. At the very least, you can order a disgusting drink and mock sip it while staring at him all night. All & all, if people I know (who are indiginous to the area) didn't meet up here, I certainly wouldn't and I do my best to avoid it at all costs.

We stopped here Saturday evening for a couple cold drinks and some food after spending the afternoon at Brookfield zoo. The rum and cokes were $3.50 which makes me happy. A huge basket of fries was $3, and for $1 more you can add cheese, bacon, and jalapenos. I wish we had decided to upgrade our basket of fries. We ordered a plain basket, and then people at the table decided to get the upgraded basket. Since the burgers and sandwiches all came with fries, this meant we all ate a helluva a lot of fries. But they were tasty! The burgers were gigantic, and since I had just filled up on fries I decided to split a burger. I think that was a wise decision. The burger was delicious. It was cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and came on a pretzel bun. It was perfect! We were in here early on a Saturday night (like 6), but the place seemed clean enough. The bathrooms were fine. But I understand how bar bathrooms can be completely different at the end of the night.

Oh Brixie's, I fear your better days are behind you. I remember when you were dark and dingy and most of the bar stools wobbled, the pool tables were a bit warped, the juke box was full of rock and roll, scum-rock bands played (without some pathetic excuse for a stage) and the bathroom doors actually locked. Now, it seems, you've become a plastic surgery junkie. The walls are painted, there are roll-up doors for the warm weather, new lighting, decorative keg taps are lined up like a firing squad. Hell, you serve food now and I remember a time one would have been afraid to bring food in for fear of catching a communicable disease. However, you've neglected the true heart of yourself. You can no longer express your true gritty inner self now that you look just like every other bar around. Yes, the beer selection is still impressive and the hallway view upon entry is still sort of run-down, but the overall vibe is gone. I mean, I couldn't believe the amount of douche-bags that were wandering about. What happened to the scruffy locals? You're in a sad state Brixie's. The only remnant of your scummy past is the bathrooms. You'd think if you were going to spend all that money prettying up the place you might have considered getting locks that actually work in the women's bathroom. You see, it's all surface repairs with you. You've done nothing to address the ugly on the inside. I'm sorry old friend, but I fear we've both changed too much. I guess you can't go home again.

I first went to Brixie's when I heard about their extensive beer menu and have never been disappointed by it. They always have a large selection of craft beer on tap at reasonable prices. Since the smoking ban went into effect they have done alot to clean up and improve the atmosphere. Their new kitchen serves a solid burger and fries. I would also recommend the deep fried pickles.

I used to be a regular customer. Me and a friend came there sometimes twice a week, ordered at least $30 in drinks plus a meal or two. We tipped, must admit, not all the time, but a lot of the times. Especially the waitors that were nice and friendly. The pool tables are great, but the beer selection is not that large and gets boring after a while. It was after we were told we can no longer "stiff" our bartender on tip (we usually leave the final tip at the end of the night with our final drink) we simpy paid 5 to the waiter in tips and left. Apparently it was another bartender who complained about us, even though she never notices us at the bar, always has a cowl on her face, and always seems unhappy to be there. I also do not like the way she mixes the drinks (they taste watered down). She has never actually brougt out the drinks we order, the other bartenders/ waiters do....so we tip them well. It was uncomfortable and embarrassing to have a pool game interrupted by person telling us we are not leaving enough money, especially when we are regular customers and bring them a lot of business. Also, very silly to have amother person make a complaint for you. She should have just complained herself, to our faces, and we would have told her we were going to give ger a big tip in the end. Oh well.

I honestly don't know why it took me so long to go to the bar with the best beer list in brookfield. Kind of strange for someone who calls himself the beer whore! They have one of the best American craft brew list I have seen in a long time. Also, I love how many beers that they have on draft. There were so many options my mind was spinning when we walked in! We grabbed a few beers and checked out the menu. We got a order of the fried pickles. I LOVE Fried pickles!!!! We decided to go with a few burgers with fresh cut fries! Fresh cut fries, are you kidding me! This place keeps getting better and better! The burger was very good and ridiculously large! Great food from a unlikely location! The actual bar is what can only be described as a Dive Bar. The bar is huge, they have pool tables ,and pinball machines. The bathrooms are terrible! This doesn't bother me. I could pee out of a moving car window if I had too. However, I can see how this place could be a hard sell to the ladies! Brixie's I feel like you are a bar made for me!

This place is weird. The beer selection is fantastic. Whatever you want they have. They are priced pretty well too. The problem with this place is the people they attract. Mainly people who live in Brookfield, didn't go to college, are a tad over-weight, and have smelly beardss. They always have real crappy jam-bands playing here. Terrible live music. Just awful. It's located in an old garage, so the decore is terrible, but I guess that's what they are going for. Come here if you want to drink great beer, have your nostrils assulted, find beard hair all over the bar, and listen to terrible bands that cover Phish and the Greatful dead. 3 stars.

This place is just what a bar should be. Limited t.v., good beer selection at reasonable prices, awesome burgers (seriously), pool tables, and no pretense to some type of "vibe" that it's trying to go for. It's basically like someone's awesome basement. I'm totally going back.

Brixie's is not a place you visit for the atmosphere, in my opinion. It is a place you go to with friends. With a solid group of four or more (and there is generally plenty of room to sit, not to mention pool tables and REAL darts), it's easy to have a great time here. The bartenders are generally nice and accommodating, and the beer selection is pretty wide, with a concentration on craft brews. I haven't had a chance to try the food since they've opened a kitchen there, but I've heard good things. I normally hit this place after 1 am, so it's hard to say a lot of things about this place, I guess. My friend got vomited on AT the bar, and I'm still giving this four stars. That should say something.

I went here with a few buddies and we had some beers and burgers. We loved the beer selection and all enjoyed the burgers. The customers services was lacking as there was only one person working the bar. It's a pretty unique space - I could see it being pretty sweet at night w/ lots of people there. When first arriving, we felt a little bit awkward since there was no one there to greet us or tell us how to order food. Eventually after sitting at a table for a few minutes..we walked up to the bar and had to get menus....and then go back to the bar to put in our order. Not a big deal - but it would've been nice to at least have a sign telling us what to do. This is definitely another good place to meet up with a few friends and drink some beer and enjoy a burger.

Awesome beer selection but sticking to my dragon's milk for now! They offer FREE bacon on Mondays, and they have great fries to go with their really awesome burgers. If you are in the Brookfield area this is a spot to check out at least once if you really enjoy microbrews and bite to eat. The staff here is attentive and will definitely help out if you have no idea what beers to check out. By no means is this a trendy spot but if you enjoy a good beer then check this spot out, you won't be disappointed.

Brixie's is not all things to all people. It is large, semi-cavernous and somewhat unstimulating inside. But Brixie's is about the beer ,the bar food and the people inside. If you are tentative based upon prior reviews, bring your own friends and enjoy. The beer selection is fantastic. The burgers are big and flavorful. In fact, all the food we tried was prepared with pride and the burgers can stand up against any burger I have had in the western burbs. Just don't come with any preconceived notions of what Brixie's should be and enjoy what it is.

A very good neighborhood bar that has a very Dr. Jekyll and Hyde potential to it. I frequent this bar because the have the best tap beer selection in the western burbs. Brixies is one of the few bars that get exclusive beers that are limited in the Chicagoland area like Lagunitas Chicago Fusion which only appeared in 6 bars! If you wander in then chances are you'll find beer fans but only at certain times of the day. The Dr. Jekyll hours are before the 'kids' show up and when they do 'Hyde' is what you get and what you want to do. I'm in my mid thirties and am not interested in the drama of the early twenty-somethings dating life, sure it's funny as all hell when you say to yourself "Was I really a stupid as these guys?" and yes I was! Bands on the weekends are pretty random in style but usually worth checking out. The bar food is a couple of notches above regular pub food is worth the trip for the hotter-than-hell burger! Beer lovers must make a trip here and find the others who say that this is the southside oasis for craft beer!

Readers, it's true. Brixie's is a dive. Even if they re-did the floor, it would never loose that smell of stale smoke and blue-collar crowd. Come here for the beer, and the late late hours. There aren't many suburban bars open this late, so take advantage. I always do when the gang and I are in town for the Holidays. Plus, if you're feeling fancy, you can get a martini for $3. Only in Brookfield. Just be very careful driving down Ogden. I swear that street collects squad cars.

So, this is a mini Palmer Place in relation to beer selection. I came here after meeting up with an old friend at Palmer and after a fantastic meal. Came in when it was 4pm and there were only two other people there, so I had solid face time with the bartender. She was fantastic, willing to listen as well as be brief for my long windedness. Here, there's about a hundred beers, about twenty on tap and the rest in the coolers. The chalkboard will alert you to others that they have. Per chance you order a beer that is out, it'll be on the house. Three stars? The bartender told me this 'fantastic' story of a married dude coming in one afternoon with his mistress. It was quite slow and they were alone with the bartender. Well, as she had just opened the bar for the day, she had duties to tend to. So she was gone for about ten minutes and when she comes back she makes the round around them and saw that she was pleasing the married man second base at the bar. This is where she had ended the story because she had to go since her boyfriend was in the parking lot. Keeping me on the edge of my seat, tainted or not, subtracts two stars. Now, would I come back, perhaps if Palmer was full and I was wanting to keep my liver guessing.

I'll admit, this place used to be pretty rough to go to. An absolute dive, filled with smoke. Well, since smoking has been banned, they've certainly tried to clean up their image. I stopped in as I had some time to kill before my flight out of town and I was in the area. The beer selection is solid, and the prices are better. It always has been. But what's new is they've added a kitchen, and its pretty good. The menu is pretty simple, nothing extravagant, but the food is top notch. I had a steak sandwich, and it came with fresh cut fries. I had mine "Delaware style." You can chose from a variety of different "styles:" Wisconsin, Cajun, and so on. They also have burgers, and a variety of appetizers you'd expect to find at a bar. I was offered a sampling of the fried pickles, and I'll say they're probably the best I've had. The batter was good, they're lightly seasoned, and they use bread and butter pickles instead of dill. Its pretty unique, and pretty delicious. If I lived in the area, this would be my bar.

I have only been here after 2am. It's usually dark, crowded and full of interesting characters. I typically don't remember much when I'm here because I'm only here because I'm not ready to stop drinking and go home. They're open til 4am and that part is great. Bathrooms are gross and tiny. The staff is usually nice tho. This place is a dive, don't be fooled by the rocks that it rocks. Great beer list but I tend to not venture past Miller Lite because I'm drunk, remember, and wouldn't know what a pale ale of sorts tasted like anyway...my tongue is numb from the beer and shots earlier in the night. Only occasionally good for dancing. Plenty of pool tables if that's your thing and a few dart boards. Sometimes they have bands but in my experience they were for the over 40 crowd. Usually a juke box blasting random genres when I'm here.

If Brixie's had a Yelp! page post-summer 2009, I would post this review there. Since I can't do that, I'm noting it up front. The draft beer list is strong, with lines primarily consisting of craft beers and imports. The prices can't be beat, so this is a viable option for beer nerds from the city. The food at this place was outstanding. The fried veggies were coated in a beer batter fried to perfection. This isn't your standard battered and fried junk that gets all soggy and full of oil. I recommend the fried pickles with the Louisiana remoulade. After the veggies I got my hands on some burgers of the Delaware and Louisiana variety. The beef for each burger was flavored using spices, which was nice since I hate burgers that are over-sauced. Both burgers came on a dynamite pretzel roll.

Well, the bar is open until 4 am on the weekends. That's good. The drinks are weak, not good. Every time I've been there around 1 o'clock in the morning, there is nothing going on. Any bands that have played have already torn down and it seems as though the bar were about to close, even though there's like three hours left until they lock the doors. We went there on Halloween weekend expecting something to be going on. Nope, same grumpy bartenders and "Brothers and Sisters" on the projected screen. Really? That's the best you can do on Halloween weekend. I know this is a suburban bar, but it's lame. So much potential though.

History of Brixie's, fine drinking establishment in the lovely town of Brookfield, IL - according to Mister Aurore L, former resident who used to haunt the locale on a regular basis between 1987 and 2005: 1 - in the beginning, the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. 2 - the plot of land used to be a watering hole where bison came to quench their thirst by the thousands, even breaking the ice in the winter to achieve that purpose. 'Break ice' is actually the etymology of the name Brixie's (deformed and transformed over time. See rules of historic phonetics for more details) 3 - in 1934 a family of immigrants lost their construction business because of the economic crisis and decided to open a bar. They decided to call it Brixies to honor their past (brixies = brick + ksi - ksi being a pressure unit kilo per square inch). They heard later the rumors about the watering hole, and thought it was a very happy coincidence. 4 - in 1987, Mister Aurore L discovered the place. At the time it was licensed as a package goods store and had shelves and shelves of liquors and a tiny bar. 5 - M. A. L. became a regular, got drunk and sick for the first time within its walls and learned how to become a pool shark feared by the most ferocious players. He will tell you of his exploits on occasions, when he's in the mood and doesn't feel too hungry. (Tip: you can buy him off with fried chicken) 6 - M. A. L. took A. L. one night to meet his friends and when she wasn't impressed with it, decided to cut all ties and vowed to never come back. He cried for days. Brixie's would have to - if it could have. 7 - A. L. made her debuts at the pool - under the patronage of the former hero of the place. She totally flipped. That was a flop. 8 - M. A. L and A. L. went to Brixie's one night after hearing marvels about their burgers. They discovered much to their surprise that the place had had a face lift, and lost a couple of pool tables but was definitely inviting. Among its charms: - a juke box - two dartboards - a super cool retro looking little booth in a corner - 32 beers on tap - more than 100 beer by the bottle!!!!!! - late opening hours, we are talking about 4am during the weekend, 2am otherwise (kitchen hours differ) - $8.50 for the Hotter Than Hell burger served on a pretzel bun with jalapeno slices (13 of them on mine), smoked gouda, chipotle aioli and a big, thick, juicy patty of meat. KRAZY DELISH. - $5.50 for make you own mac'n'cheese - pretty dilapidated bathroom stalls - it's a must. Totally worth the trip kids. Be a part of history, go to Brixie's!

For a bar way the hell out here, it's not bad at all. They have a very nice selection of taps, and it exists somewhere between dive and brewpub. There's a bunch of pool tables, and it seems to fill up later. Played here a bunch way back when, and generally there were a bunch of cover bands with the odd original act. Juke is average suburb juke. Crowd is average crowd for out here, though I didn't notice it being all that young...ages seemed to be 21-50. If you're in the hood I would say it's one of the better bets for a beer aficionado.

Brixie's is an OK bar, depending upon what you are looking for. The biggest plus of this place is that they have a very respectable beer selection (thirty-two on tap, total of around a hundred kinds would be my guess). This is the only place I know of in the area that you can get some great Belgian beers. They also have TVs, pool tables, juke box and FREE bacon. The place is basically a big dive bar with a much better then average beer selection. Brixie's hasn't done very much in the way or remodeling or decorating; it's unattractive but the bar up front is pretty nice. Brixie's, on average, attracts a more younger crowd then other spots in the area. In a way, Brixie's feels like your hanging out at a bar in a party-college-town. Weekends can get pretty rowdy there. They keep a couple bouncers up front and I have had my share of trouble with some drunks. When the place closes down for the night, a cop is often parked outside to keep the peace. Expect to see some idiots if you walk in the door. For example, they had a guy pull out a gun not too long ago (didn't shoot), and on another night some guy punched a cop in the face while they were arresting his girlfriend for starting a fight. As someone else stated, the men's bathroom is atrocious. I think it would be more hygienic if they put some porta-johns out in their parking lot.

I went in for game 3 of the Blackhawks finals on a Wed. night. I hadn't been in the place for ages and they have changed a bit. First off the beer list is great but it is very heavy on American and Canadian beer. This isn't Palmers where if you throw a dart on a map they'll have a beer from whatever country you hit. It is a very strong draft list (32 or so) and the bottle list is extensive as well. I enjoyed a few Oberons while watching the game. They do have a kitchen now and the first thing on the menu is a maple bacon donut! Need I say more? Have one of those after a few cold ones and it's like you've died and gone to heaven. The service was pretty good- Jackie and Bruce were able to keep everyone happy and not waiting. I ordered the salami pesto panini and loaded fries to bring home. The fries were very good and I definitely couldn't finish them. The sandwich was fine, but nothing to really write home about. Good basic food which is what I was looking for. The bathrooms definitely need work as well as the booths. But I will be back for Wed. Warrior- where I can get a free t-shirt, and I'll have to go on a Monday for FREE BACON!!!. I don't go to deal with the after hours crowd. It's open late but that part of my life is long gone. Just give me a good beer in a pleasant place and I'm happy.

Growing up in LaGrange, Brixie's was/is the late night hang out for anyone living in the area. The beer selection is top notch, there are a couple of pool tables, dart boards,juke box and a stage where mediocre cover bands play. The place can get a bit rowdy as the night lingers on, and usually there's somebody there drunk and pissed off ready to get in to it with somebody. Pretty interesting place to go because you see people from all walks of life. Kind of like the cantina scene from Star Wars, except no weird alien band playing (at least not that I've seen). .

I'm gonna make this short the beer selection is AMAZING they have a lot of great beers on tap sometimes they will host a little beer tasting I saw a RUSH cover band there once, they were great I'm not a bar goer because I hate american bars and the people who attend them, but this is one place where you can try some really great beer and that's about it. If you like a bar with great beer selection try Cigars and Stripes on Ogden in Berwyn.

The only reason this one doesn't get 5 stars is, well, maybe the airplane sized bathrooms that look like they belong in a frat house basement during a kegger. Which doesn't really bother me btw...but the chick doesn't dig it. Besides that, the bar style food & fine craft beer selection is AWESOME. No freezer in this joint I'm told -- all the grub is fresh. Good bands too. Wish I lived closer to this place. No outdoor action though.

Alright. Here's the deal... This place isnt' especially awful. It's a bar you'd love to love, but the crowd just effing sucks. So goes the curse of being the ONLY bar that's open 'till 4 in the area. I.E. every douche-bag in the Western Suburbs will come here when their bar closes and try to park their Intrepid in the woefully inadequate parking lot. I'm not sure about now but the bartenders were VERY cool, and can put a drink to a face. They also have an INCREDIBLE selection of beer on tap for a random suburban bar/cave. The previous poster was right, the digital juke box is center stage here, which is weird because it's just a tiny thing mounted on the wall. Thank God for tech-mology -- it means you can have every crap Top-40 song on "The Box" and still have room for The Smith's singles collection and Surfer Rosa. I hate to be the typical indie bastard, but I was here first. I was! Everyone must exit and leave me to my 3-1-2 in peace. Brixies used to have a stage in the back-left corner of the bar -- it hosted local music, mainly local blues, and it was terrif'. They've since demolished the "stage" (it was pretty much elevated plywood), and FINALLY made room for a foosball table. Can you sense the sarcasm in that sentence? I can never tell. I have a theory: The more pool tables-per-bar the worse the bar. Brixies has, hmmmm, maybe 6 pooltables. Think about it. Also, my friend's hippie neigbor used to buy his dimebag's out begind this place. Drugs are bad. That's what I've been told. In Summary: 4am bars are the great eqaulizer. Roll in here at 2:30 and soak in the involuntary melting-pot. "Oh look! Goths, preps, 'indie' kids, underage kids, off-shift LaGrange waitresses, Caribou Coffee employees, that werid older guy who shouldn't go to bars anymore, a small latina playing pool with really short arms... " They're all here. ...I should stop writing reviews whilst buzzed. BTW. Hot Chip is great. Get someone to YSI it to you.

Heaven has a name. And it's called Brixie's. Where else can I go to get 20 different ales, beers, and stouts on tap all in a dive bar converted garage atmosphere? And they have my all time favorite, Point Pale Ale on tap. And the night I went, they had it on special for $2 a pint! I was also able to sample a now favorite of mine, a breakfast stout. It was rich, creamy, thick, and just out-of-this-world tasty. There were pool tables and dartboards aplenty, along with a few stellar bartenders. The atmosphere is dive-ish, with cement floors, and doctor's office waiting room cast-off furniture in the corners. I was here early in the evening, but noted that it is a 4am bar, just in case I ever need a late night beer stop. There was only one thing that needed improvement. The bathrooms were very frightening. The stall was so tiny, and the doors swung out. So there I am with my knees butted up against the door, and trying to hold it closed with one hand. After that nearly acrobatic feat of using the facilities, I had to slow down my beer intake, since I really didn't want to go through that again.

I got all excited to find out that they had Point beer on tap! The Point Pale Ale was only $2 a pint on special. YUM Point is my favorite beer from Wisconsin! OK I digress! The Point Beer is what gave this bar the bump from three stars to four. This place is a major dive which is most likely why I liked it..

a late-night bar - it is fairly dingy and there are many characters here - but you know what? there are a TON of beers here, they always have a good special, the decor is hilarious (think old-timey neon signs and upholstered seats) and you will always find someone to talk to, especially the bartenders. yes, they used to have a better music scene - i don't know what happened to that. trixies and chads?? WTF? try blue collar. some people can trend towards the white trash, maybe. i can't imagine where the trixie/chad thing is coming from.

I feel the need to defend my old stomping ground against Greg S.'s review. Ok, it is a sports bar, but a trixie/chad bar it's not. Brixie's is the place you go to when you want to see people that you went to high school and possibly college with. It's a decent bar with a good beer selection. Oh, and going on Christmas Day night? This is NOT the place it used to be. Any review of this place before Aug. of 2009 before they had food shouldn't even be considered. Personally I think they should actually change their name. The menu is very small, but AMAZING. The BEST burger you will ever have and there are many interesting styles to get it that actually represent regions of the country. Like you can get a Delaware burger, or my favorite is the Alabama. The fries start their life at Brixie's as potatoes. They're handcut and never frozen. The beer list is like nothing in the western suburbs. Palmers cannot compete because if you want a really interesting craft brew they actually have so many other beers on tap that the lines get bad and the kegs get old before they run out. Plus, this place does get some things on tap that I have never seen on tap anywhere else- only bottles. The seating isn't great, there aren't booths, the lighting is kinda dim, and it can be very empty, but the food and beer make visiting the new and improved Brixie's a must. Send out the word about this place and then maybe when you go in, you won't be alone!
