ZERO stars if that could be selected. Bought an order of Choi sum & beef for myself only. Ate a small portion last night, this morning all the symptoms of FOOD POISONING! Also, bought rice cake which was good, no reactions to that, me my & husband ate this.

Noodles were overcooked and no flavor. Stick with the two choice next time. Manapua has little filling but big.

Great experience and no complaints here! We both ordered steak and garlic shrimp and it was very delicious. The wait time for the food did not take long. This was during lunch time, but it was not that busy, I guess because their location is a bit secluded and there is not a lot of foot traffic. The steak was cooked perfectly, medium rare in a gravy sauce and the garlic shrimp was also cooked very well with not too much garlic, like at the shrimp trucks in Kahuku.

Ordered their "Chefs Special" Oyster Chicken and brought it home to eat. Took a bite of the Chicken to find no seasoning on the bird at all and that the chicken was undercooked, the noodles were bland and ended up throwing everything away...won't be eating there again.

I really wished this place was awesome. It's only a 2 min walk from home! The place is clean and nice so that great but the customer service is blah. They just stare at you, speak in Chinese and would t to special orders for you without charging almost double of your playe. What I did really enjoy was the past duck and char siu pork it was delicious. I will come back for that! The rest of the food was mediocre and I rather just go down the road to wong kung and pay almost 50% less for good food.

Im almost buttsore about my first impression of this place. For starters, the reviews are good bc theres only 6 reviews and i wish i was as lucky as the people that favor this joint. Its litterally a 5 min walk from my job so i was hoping for a great place for lunch or to pick up dinner. i printed a menu off their website(surprising since not alot of chinese places have websites), ordered a mini beef broccoli and mini mapo tofu in which they were sold out :( ended up ordering some mini mushroom roast? anyway.i show up and everything was a $1 more and when i got home my mushroom thing turned into a mini oyster sauce chicken with rice. what.thee.hell! and my husbands mini beef broccoli was 2 huge scoops of rice and like 4 pcs of trees and a few shreds of beef. shame!!!! the ladies were nice though and it "looked" clean but i would wait a bit before going back.

Finally gave this place a try even though it's about a minute away from my grandparent's house. We ordered 4 plates - 2 Pearl Packs, steamed rice/beef broccoli/lemon chicken and chow fun/pot roast chicken/eggplant with garlic sauce. I had one of the Pearl Packs. I'm confused at what it was supposed to get though. The take out menu says it comes with fried rice or noodles, but the lady said that it comes with steamed rice only. I definitely wanted to try the fresh batch of noodles that they just put out, so I was disappointed. I could've just ordered the Pearl plate for less minus the pickled cabbage, gau gee and drink. The beef broccoli was good - meat was tender and the broccoli was crunchy, not mushy. The lemon chicken wasn't too oily and the batter was crispy. The steamed rice was piled on, but there could've been more of the two meat dishes. The gau gee was sitting out for a while so it wasn't crunchy. Next time I'll just settle for a Pearl plate (2 choices w/noodles or fried rice) for less. I didn't try the pot roast chicken, but the one who ordered it liked it a lot. The chow fun wasn't too oily or salty, so I liked it. The eggplant was good also. I'll definitely try this place again since it's close by, the restaurant itself is clean and there is lots of parking. The prices are reasonable, but portions could be a bit more.

Which came first, the orange chicken, or the lemon chicken? ...I don't know!!! But I can tell you this place doesn't serve orange chicken, they only serve delicious lemon chicken! If I could rate the joint purely on aesthetics and lemon chicken, I would give it a 5 star! But, I can't. The drawbacks to this place is location, it's in a sort of hard to find small commercial plaza that's been quietly expanding up the road from the old Waipahu Plantation and down the street from Waikele. But if you can find Golden Coin and Wholesale Unlimited in Waipahu, you're pretty set. As far as Chinese restaurants go, most are filthy unorganized, and fire hazard havens. This place is quite the polar opposite. It's quaint, clean, and appealing. It's also quite different from a majority of the restaurants in the area, offering half and whole roasted ducks hanging behind a glass window just brings back some nostalgic feelings. Can't really find that anywhere else but China Town! The place is great, the lemon chicken is bomb. The prices are affordable, but the portions are... inconsistent. The mini lemon chicken only came with 7 pieces/strips and rice for $4.50ish. The rice was overwhelming! On the other hand I had tried their "pearl's plate," and for $6.75 you get crispy gau gi, noodles, rice, a good helping of beef brocoli and lemon chicken. Much more than you could get at any Panda Express for the same price! Once they balance out their portions and price, there's no doubt that this is a 5 star joint for those craving authentic Chinese food out on this side of the island. Note: I like reviewing obscure places like these because as fun as it is to review to Hot Picks on Yelp, I also feel like my voice gets drowned out amongst all the reviews. Plus it's always nice to highlight places that might otherwise go unnoticed but are doing their best to perpetuate their business. Judy Cheng is such a business owner. She's trying to bring the old school Chinese flavor to some where new while taking a gamble on the west side. She's no newbie at the authentic Chinese food game either, she owned the original Pearl City Chinese Restaurant for 23 years! It closed, but she's back and bringing the flavor! Next time I visit I think I'll share my thoughts with her and do a re-review. Happy eating!

Maybe I caught them on a bad day but the lemon chicken was not as good as the other reviews raved about. They skimped me on a gau gee. I really don't get nor like the pickled cabbage. The plate was practically all rice. And I'm pretty sure they overcharged me by a few dollars but it's whatever. I placed a takeout order here because according to yelp its the closest & best chinese restaurant to my house. If this is the best in my area next time I won't hesitate to make the drive elsewhere. The cashier was super friendly though.

Every time I pass this place, it's time for a manapua. I don't know where else you can get a bomb manapua for $1.20. They just get things right in my book. Me and my brother always gets full for $5. That's it! $5! if you're on the go and you need something to eat, stop by this place. It turns into a restaurant during the night, so during the say it's just a stop and go place. There's no huge line to worry about. It can easily give you your manapua with rice cake or jin dui fix! The jin dui, I always get the black bean one. I've never had the coconut one. I'll try it next time, I love coconut. But for a dollar!? (0.95 cents) you get one as big as your hand! No small mochi ball looking thing... That's all I've ever tried. I didn't try their food, looks good though. To sum it up... +Manapua +Rice Cake +Jin Dui That's the meal right there, every time I pass by.

Ate here a couple times, just because I forget to bring a lunch. The dim sum was okay, but I don't want my dim sum lukewarm nor should I have to put it in the microwave. The food looks like its cooked fresh. Today I had to get an actual lunch or my day would just suck not running on anything! So I decided that during my break I'd call to pick up....I ordered the shrimp with cashew nuts and vegetables with cake noodle... which btw was going to be the first time I was ever going to try it. First of all, the lady who picked up doesn't know how to use the phone. Second of all, I made my order and I double checked to see if she got my order right then she asked for my contact information thinking that I would get a call to come by and get it. Lastly, I go and finally pick it up, but was never called to say it was ready and when I pay I look at my food and its the wrong order. I was not in the mood to be a bitch today because of the long day that was still ahead of me. The food was alright. So my order ended up being the shrimp with mushrooms and vegetables which was drenched in sauce and not sure if I like cake noodle but it was good. The sauce killed the meal and it had clogged arteries written all over it. Don't get me wrong I love added sauce to my food but this was overwhelming to the point where I was spooning out all of it!! Next time do not order over the phone to pick up. And go when they open because the dim sum is warm. I will still go here because it's close and quick to grab something small.

Finally a take out place that serves dim sum and all those wonderful Chinese desserts! They make good black sugar bao (bun) and all the other good stuff just 5 minutes from my house. Before I had to go to Pearl city to pick up my faves but there they are. Their prices are very reasonable, a 2-choice plate lunch costs under $6, with a mini nearly $5. The only prob is that if they clean up their hot steamer plate meals, they charge extra for chown fun. I didn't get that, but that's what they told me. When the steamers are gone, such as after lunch, they do make the plate in the back kitchen.I'm not famiiar with their operation, but I guess they have one in Pearl City/Ridge. Their char siu prices are very very reasonable too, since I make a lotta saimin at home. It's so nice to have a convenient place to go to for all this stuff. I think slowly as that area builds up, there will be more choices and businesses. Every time I go, which are at off-hours, they always seem to have at least one person eating away.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
