This is my favorite place on Oahu for prime rib! Sadly they don't do reservations so you need to get there early if you want prime rib. That kinda ruins my normal dinner schedule, but for this it's worth it! They give you a huge cut that you're probably not going to finish in one sitting. It also comes with sauteed veggies and awesome mashed potatoes. Totally worth the trip for dinner and appetizers. Their dessert is kinda okay, but nothing special. Awesome view makes up for slightly sketchy service sometimes. But patience is always a virtue!

Never knew this place was hidden in Kane`ohe. It was charming and didn't feel like Hawai`i to me--kind of felt like I was stuck in a 1980's travel book about Hawai`i and got to visit somewhere featuring the "islands." Still, the outdoor view of the calm and lush garden and pond was so relaxing and welcoming. I had the furikake crusted opah. It was yummy; the furikake crust was better than what I expected. (Next time, though, I would get something different because I think I actually don't care much for opah.) The menu was pretty basic-steak stuff, various fish preparations, pork chops, ribs, and chicken. By the time my party got there, they had run out of the prime rib. For what we got, the price was reasonable. I guess nothing really blew my mind except the location and the ono sourdough rolls they bring to the table. The service was great. The staff was very helpful except that the 6:30 reservations were not honored and the party was seated incredibly late. Family friendly. Casual. All around mellow place to eat a more-than-basic dinner in a gorgeous setting. I heard the breakfast/brunch buffet has prime rib, omelet station, and waffle station for under $25. This might be the thing to do there and I hope to check it out.

We have had several good visits to Haleiwa Joe's but the most recent was extremely disappointing. Sitting at the bar, as we always do, we were greeted quickly but it seemed that a couple of questions about menu items were more than the barkeeper wanted to answer. Responses were one or two words while not even looking at us, and it was not very busy. The food came and although it was good the barkeeper never checked on it, never offered a second drink. Finally, ten minutes after a passing waitress took our empty plates I gave up and asked for the check. Then, if things were bad enough, I was told "We don't take American Express", the most verbal communication with the personality-less barkeeper I was able to have in the course of more than one hour. Is this the only restaurant left in the world not taking Amex?

The food was great and our waitress was really nice. We went at 7:30pm on a Friday night and there wasn't a wait. They were out of prime rib, but next time we'll just go early before they run out. The atmosphere is awesome and we had a great time!

I have been living in Kaneohe for 20 years and this location has been through some changes. Finally someone got it right! A friend told about HJs' prime rib. So I thought...hmmm...something I don't make at home..(ever)..so...my gf and I decided to chance it for my recent bd. (her treat) ;-) Absolutely great meat and drinks, spectacular view and service! Can't wait to go back for her bd!

Ive only been here once but I am salivating just thinking about my next trip. I came here with my husband and kids after a day at the beach. We were dressed semi casual as a result. I didn't feel too out of place but I could definitely see putting on a nice dress before coming here again. The food was delicious! I had the fish special and it was prepared deliciously. My husband ordered the prime rib after reading all of the rave reviews. His prime rib was perfectly cooked, tender, and juicy. You have to get the prime rib! My kids happily chowed down their dinner. We had a wonderful seat on the lani with an amazing view of the garden. I would recommend that you have reservations or arrive when they open, the place filled up quickly after opening. After dinner, we took a stroll through the gardens and walked off our food coma.

We got here after 630pm on a Saturday night and the prime rib was all gone! Our wait for a seat wasn't too bad. We ended up at the bar waiting for our seats. The bar is pretty cool with about 6-8 seats at the counter. The table we got was overlooking the pond. But it was after sunset and the pond was pitch black. LoL, no view for us. The waitress was cool about us chatting away. She came back for our order. Food came out pretty fast. The fisherman's chowder (tomato base) was ok. The fried scallop appetizer was the BEST! gotta try it. We had the Opah and that was good too. The Hawaiian music was off a speaker and not too loud. Definitely a place to bring a date. Chat away........

Very different from Haleiwa location to Kaneohe. When reading reviews, make sure you know which one they are rating. Haleiwa - been there, maybe 6 months ago - ok - more touristy - mixed reviews on service -Nothing special. Kaneohe - potential for higher ratings. Atmosphere is 5+ though service was mixed. Food was 3 1/2 stars. Downside - bacon was paper-thin and crumbled into dust. Suggestion: Make up for it by serving a thicker cut and get rid of some of the sides that don't move that much. Omelet station was awesome - those guys work the hardest on the floor. We had a party of 30+ and they "allowed" us to make reservations. It was for a relative's 80th birthday. The waiter we had was great, the younger hostess serving ceasar salad on the buffet line was great. Others were not-so great. No eye-contact, no hellos.

While searching for a place to have a nice dinner after our wedding ceremony (we are having a reception on the mainland months after) we tried this place out based on reviews on here. I spoke to the manager to ask about making a reservation for 15 people, two of them being kids. He said they don't take reservations but since it's for my wedding dinner, he will make an exception and give me a table but only from 5-7pm. I informed him that our ceremony ends at 5:30 and we wouldn't arrive until 6 and he rudely replied with "then you can have it from 6-7. Or wait for a table but we probably won't be able to accommodate you"....uh....ok. Excuse my French, but screw you haleiwa joes. We had a LARGE budget for our wedding dinner and we will gladly take that money elsewhere. How snobby! Never going back.

I've been here several times as my girlfriends family lives in Kaneohe. It has amazing views of the mountains, great food, drinks and service. It's kind of a hidden gem as mostly only locals know of this place. The poke is delicious as is just about everything else I tried here. The poke is a standout though. The drinks are large and potent and not tourist like expensive like what you'll find on Waikiki. I do consider myself a regular a this place even though I don't live in Hawaii. But if I did maybe others would start considering me a regular too.

One of our favorite places for brunch! Show up early or plan to wait a little while. If there isn't a wedding in the gardens, take a walk and explore one of the more beautiful settings around Oahu! The run down: -Kid Friendly. (We have four) -Affordable (Not cheap but not over the top) -Delicious (LOVE the caesar salad made fresh at the buffet) -Good Service (Always friendly) -An amazing open air view of a lush tropical garden that will take your breath away and fill up the SD card on your camera! We love Haleiwa Joe's in Kaneohe!

The photo shows what it looked like from our table. Beautiful. Service is good, and friendly. Very relaxed environment. Presentation is simple, yet attractive. Yes, I had the prime rib. I would say that it is a double cut at double price, which is reasonable. Quality was very good. It was tender, juicy, and had a rich, beefy flavor. I shared it with my wife and her cousin, and all that was left was the bone. I would order it, again. My wife liked her fish dish. Her cousin was okay with the Chinese-style fish, and her husband liked his pork chop.

Nearly invisible in a crowded room--that's how we felt dining at Haleiwa Joe's tonight. The combination of dining on a Friday night in a large party of 18 was evidently too much for the busy wait staff to handle. We started early, at 5:15, and for the first 30 minutes things went well, but as the restaurant filled, service went downhill. We found ourselves asking 3-4 times for a single drink refill, trying desperately to wave someone over to take a drink order, etc. The food here tastes okay, not bad but nothing special either. Every time I've eaten here in a group though, our hot food was served cold. The view of the nearby Ko'olaus and Haiku Gardens just below are beautiful. The servers are friendly, if not attentive enough when busy, and they try to be accommodating. The restaurant is open-air, good-sized, and "dressy casual". You would feel comfortable here in shorts and slippers or nice aloha attire. The location being what it is, it's often rainy and/or cool here, particularly in the evening, so you may want an umbrella and light wrap. Prices are generally in the $25-30 range for dinner entrees, which would be okay if you are here on a weekday evening when they're not busy and can give better service, including bringing the food when it's hot from the kitchen. BTW, they don't take reservations, so you might want to arrive early, especially if you're dining in a large group, and that goes double if it's on the weekend.

We went on a friday night around 7:30pm. It was a good crowd and they had live Hawaiian music. The waitress said it was slower then a "usual Friday" but yet all tables were filled and people were waiting. Restaurant is a first come first serve concept, so no reservations are required here. Casual / aloha wear seems fine here. My husband had the Salmon, I went with the chef special - Rice Paper Baked Opah.... and for dessert... we went with the mud pie like dessert. We started with the spicy edamame (which was good - not too spicy... soaked in a kimchee like sauce). The salmon was very good... served on mashed potatoes with green beans and pesto sauce. The Rice Paper Baked Opah was good... It would have a better review except for the fact that it wasn't cooked all the way through and had to back for "a few more minutes". By the time it came back out, my husband was 3/4 done with his dinner. Our waitress forgot about my iced tea order... Dessert was okay - - coffee ice cream "pie" on an oreo cookie crust (no complaints so far), with whipped cream on top and melted dark chocolate on the side... except they burnt the chocolate, which we discovered after drizzling it all over our piece... :( The waitress realizes she forgot my iced tea when offering me coffee. I wasn't impressed, but I wasn't turned off by my one and only experience dining here... we will definitely dine here again and see if tonight was just an off night...

If you're lucky enough to snag yourself a serving of prime rib, consider yourself lucky! We went there for dinner on a recent Saturday evening because another place we had planned on dining at was too full. Took a chance and showed up at HJ's hoping there would still be prime rib available. Wait time for a table was approx 35-45 minutes, so took a small table on the bar side. Good thing. There weren't too many servings of prime rib left so I put in my order! While waiting we ordered a salad and the coconut shrimp which we split. The shrimp was really tasty and came with two different dipping sauces. The salad, well, I felt maybe it was a little too smothered in dressing, thus making it a little on the wilted side. As for the prime rib, well, it was great. Medium rare, bone-in perfection! A meat lover's feast... A generous side of au jus, garlic mashed potatoes and a medley of cooked vegetables rounded it out. The gf had the furikake fresh fish, which was opah, really flaky and moist, topped with namasu cucumber. The only thing wrong was her rice... It was really soggy, like too much water was used when it was cooked. As for dessert, we had the Paradise Pie which is Kona Coffee ice cream on a crust made of Oreo cookies with whipped cream, almonds and chocolate syrup!!! Man that was good! A guilty pleasure for sure!! The wait staff there is fantastic! Our waitress took really good care of us and we really enjoyed chatting with her. The service we received made a big impression on us! Glad we decided to go to Haleiwa Joe's, whenever I get the craving for prime rib again, I'll go visit them.

Another favorite stop that you wont get tired of. Its location is a bit strange, located in the middle of an apartment complex, but once you step inside you will understand why. The entire front of the restaurant is open providing amazing views of the mountains. happy hour is a good time to go and try the food if your a little worried that you may not like it. Parking can be a little tight so you may have to park on the side of the street. For dessert order the hula pie, with an extra chocolate because one is never enough!

Went here for a wedding reception where they had the Sunday brunch spread set up. My friend (the bride) said they don't normally offer the brunch for weddings, but she's special. The ambiance was nice, with a very casual, laid back vibe. You can see the gardens from the restaurant, and it's very pretty. It was a bit humid though, given all the foliage. I wasn't expecting too much, given that it's out in the boonies and in a garden. But, it was really good!! I especially enjoyed the caesar salad and the kim chee fried rice. The blueberry muffin tops were good as well. I guess they are known pretty well for their prime rib, but I don't eat meat, so I didn't try it...although I suppose if you are a meat eater, that giant slab of cow looks pretty tasty. I would like to go back sometime and try their regular menu and maybe a few drinks. I've heard the li hing mui margarita is really good.

My uncle said it best - this is a hidden gem of Kaneohe. The view of the lush Haiku garden below is pretty amazing. I loved the ambience of the open-air restaurant. The prime rib is NO JOKE. That is a pretty huge slab of meat they give you. My friend ordered it and our jaws dropped when we saw how big it was. We each had a bite (there about 7 of us at the table and there was still a lot left for her). Anyone who comes here and doesn't try the prime rib is missing out! We also had: Emma's poke - it melts in your mouth. mmmmmm! Ahi spring rolls - something deep fried with more ahi! MMMM. Fresh Ahi - I wish I had gotten it a bit more rare, but still no regrets. It's a pretty generous portion of ahi and it was YUMMM! Had some other salad and shrimp dishes (can't remember them anymore) and there were no complaints at our table... To wash it down I had a glass of the Li Hing Mui margarita. This was definitely a treat and one of the most memorable meals ever...

I must say my family and I really enjoyed dining at Haleiwa Joe's. It was a very nice experience from start to finish. They don't take reservations so it's on a first come first served basis. The dress code at Haleiwa Joe's is casual attire. The Hostess, Waiters and Waitresses was very pleasant and served you with a smile. The service was excellent! This is my kind of dining place. We decided to eat out on Friday night so we planned to visit Haleiwa Joe's since we heard a lot of good things about this place. It was my first time dining here and I heard so much good things about their Prime Rib so guess what I ordered, yup Prime Rib! Well they didn't lie to me because the Prime Rib was awesome. All along I pictured in my mind, 2 slices of Prime Rib with Au just. Well that two slices turned out to be one massive slice cooked just the way I ordered it, medium well and it was delicious. The mashed potato and vegetables was also very tasty. The price for dinner, lets just say it was all worth it. Haleiwa Joe's has an excellent atmosphere with Haiku Gardens as the backdrop. Gorgeous scenery! They had Beautiful Hawaiian Music orchestrated by "Kahiau" a local Trio that played from 08:30 to 10:30. The lead singer Cheyenne was hitting those high notes with no problem. Their music brought back good old memories. We had no problem finding parking and the wait wasn't very long. I enjoyed it, my wife and my whole family enjoyed the dinner so I gave them a Five Star. I highly recommend Haleiwa Joe's for your dining pleasure! I live on the west-side of the island, I would make the drive over the hill just to eat at Haleiwa Joe's again!

We have gone to this restaurant since the early 80's and have patiently watched as it has gone through several metamorphosis. Now it is a great success as Haleiwa Joe's. And thank goodness! There are not many nice restaurants in Kaneohe. We ate dinner here with friends while paying another visit to Hawaii. It was a terrific experience. First of all, the setting is unique. Because the restaurant overlooks Haiku Gardens, this open air restaurant is surroundded with lush, green foliage and has a great view of the Koolaus. It is almost always crowded and last night was no exception. We had drinks in the bar and had not waited long before our table was ready. The service was great and our server, who looked ready to give birth any minute and must have been tired, was friendly and efficient. The food was terrific. Unfortunately, the prime rib was gone, but my husband was happy with his NY steak. The other guy at our table had ribs, and I concentrated on escargot and salad. These dishes were specials and they were fantastic. We managed to save room for dessert and shared butter mochi with macadamia nut ice cream - to die for. Our friends, who live in Kaneohe, eat dinner here once a week. And no wonder! It's fabulous. Can't wait to come back on our next trip to Oahu. I'm already dreaming of butter mochi.

Not a bad place to grab a drink or some dinner on the Windward side of the island. My husband loves the porkchop and coconut shrimp and I'm always a fan of whatever grilled fish they have. Make sure and save room for dessert though.. Paradise pie is sinful!

Okay, I've given Haleiwa Joe's great reviews in the past; it used to be our go to! Buut, the last couple times we went I have been less than impressed. The most recent time I was craving steak so I ordered the filet mignon. It was overcooked and dry, even when I made sure to ask for true medium (pink in the center!). My boyfriend's fish was also underseasoned and overcooked. I hate to admit it, but I think this one is going downhill. Ambiance, drinks, and service are still pretty good.

We had read about prime rib and Sunday brunch but really came for the fresh fish. Our server Silvana was able to suggest just the right entrees. She knew the menu inside out and was able to help is pick out items that suited us perfectly (snapper daily special and a wasabi baked fish that was out of this world). Highly recommend.

This place gets 4 shakas for being a great happy hour place for people to hang out at. The prices are still kinda high like when it was Chart House, but not too many places around our neighborhood to kick back like this. HJ's makes you feel right at home, enjoying the comfortable Kaneohe air, the beautiful torch gingers blooming all around and island style decorations. I've only eaten pupus here, the portions were kinda manini but very ono for the price; friends, food, good drinks and letting us stay past closing so we could catch up make for good times. We ordered some short ribs, calamari, seared ahi, crab cakes, sweet and spicy shrimp (cooked just about right) and tempura cali roll. I wouldn't recommend the sushi, but everything else was up to par; the caramel ice cream sundae thing is very good. I only got one bite but I would order that again next time I'm back. It's all about the location! can't be beat, don't need to drive all the way to town!

I was looking for a place to invite a friend to have dinner and to celebrate his recent accomplishments. After reading the reviews for this restaurant we decided to go there last night. We got there around 7 pm and there were people waiting outside to be seated. Gave my name to the hostess who told me it would not take long. After waiting for 45 minutes I went back inside and ask if I was closer to getting a table and she said there were two parties ahead of me. At 8 pm and being my friend and I the only ones waiting to be seated, the waitress came outside calling for "Harris". She called the name twice and then went back inside. Moments later she came outside again and asked for my name. I wondered if the hostess gave our table to someone else or didn't care about writing my name on the list the first time. Finally we were seated. We ordered the Stuffed Mushrooms and the Black and Blue Ahi which were okay. My friend ordered the Filet Mignon medium-well and I ordered the peppercorn steak. The Filet Mignon was probably well done or past well done. I asked my friend that I would call the waitress to send it back to the kitchen but he declined. We were eating our dessert and the waitress came with the check and placed it on the table and said that I didn't need to take care of it right away, which I didn't. A few minutes later came back and asked if the check was ready to be paid. I had to stop eating my dessert to get my credit card and give it to her. I guess it was their way of saying "finish up fast and Go!" The service was bad and the food just average and pricey (check was over a $100). I should have read the one and two star reviews more carefully. Never coming back!

We loved this place! We are visitors here and decided to see the Byodo-In Temple, which is very cool. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped for dinner at Haleiwa Joe's. We got there around 4:30 and walked through the Haiku Gardens first, taking tons of great pictures, and then got a table right at the edge of the lanai overlooking the incredible view. The manager was very helpful in selecting gluten free options on the menu - there weren't many, but what they had was unique and excellent. Out of 6 of us, we all enjoyed our food and just the whole experience very much. Highly recommend this place, especially for tourists...but get there early or you will wait a long time to be seated. That place is very popular and busy!!

We'd only been to Haleiwa Joe's in Haiku Gardens once before, but the impression it made was lasting. We were on Oahu this past November for a very special event and decided to have our final dinner at this restaurant. The location is stunning. Go early enough to walk the grounds and enjoy the views. When it's busy, expect to wait for a table. We were initially seated next to a large party. We requested they move us to another table. The wait staff were very nice and accommodated our request. The food is pricey, but you kind of expect that coming in the door. They tout their prime rib. We didn't have it but I saw it being served at the table next to ours. Let me tell you, that was some serious slab of meat. My mother-in-law had the coconut shrimp which she really liked. My sister-in-law and my husband both enjoyed their choices. I had one of the special cuts of beef. While it was flavorful, there was a large ribbon of fat or something that ran through it making it hard to cut and chew...a little disappointing given the price. Dinner entrees ran $25 and up. All in all, a memorable dinner.

This place is amazing. I got to pick the place for dinner and neither my husband or me had been here, score. First of all the location is gorgeous. Nestled in the rainforest of Haiku gardens in Kaneohe, this little gem takes full advantage of the surroundings by having a big balcony/porch like seating where everything is open air, but covered. It overlooks a pond and gardens with a view of the majestic Koolaus. Service here is excellent. Very attentive and keep your water filled, extremely knowledgeable about the menus as well. They are happy to recommend the best dishes and help you if you're waffling. For starters, I had a pina colada and it had to be the creamiest one I'd ever had. Not watery or chunks of ice in the way, but blended really well. We had the garlic bread appetizer and it was pretty much amazing. Big chunks of garlic in it and very soft and flavorful with nice spices and tasty bread. My hubby had the ono fish and grilled veggies (from which I snuck a bite) and it was delicious. I had the maple glazed pork on rice and bok choy, it was pretty delicious as well. We both finished off the meal with their key lime pie. Very tart and the lime flavor was very present. My mouth waters just thinking about it. Huge portions overall and great meal. Oh my goodness, there goes the waistline! It was totally worth it, a must try and will go back next chance we have!

Amazing views, great (not amazing) food. The pupus IMO are better than the entrees. And really good drinks. It would get a five star rating if it weren't for the wait time, but we were able to sit at the bar/lounge area while waiting for a table, so the 45 min wait (for 2 people on a Tuesday) was not so bad, as we had seats at the bar and could order drinks and pupus. Best restaurant experience so far on the windward side, but we haven't eaten down in Honolulu or Waikiki yet.

This is a 3.5 star review. Gotta be intrigued by a place that conjures the North Shore but located in Kaneohe. Came here to celebrate my brother's birthday. Setting is beautiful with breathtaking vistas of the Ko'olau mountains. Live Hawaiian music strumming through the air. Most of our party had fish dishes all prepared in a variety of styles. Mine was prepared Indonesian style that had a nice citrus zing & coconut creaminess. My brother's prime rib was large, meaty & a bloody mess (a good thing by him). Dessert was a delicious mud pie that I could keep eating until I puke, that good. Pleasant service by a surfer dude, particularly astute coping with my niece's no-nap crankiness. No reservations, first come first served. Corkage waived. A virtual trip to Haleiwa via Kaneohe. Could easily see myself returning soon.

Haleiwa Joe's Windard side Kaneohe on Oahu. This is the best restaurant for miles around. Great bar entertainment on Fridays (usually live local music until around 10pm). PuuPuu favorites are: Coconut Shrimp, garlic bread & kalbe. I won't tell you my dinner favorite because sometimes they run out of it. I will tell you that the fresh fish dishes have NEVER failed to amaze my family and friends. NEVER. I cannot say that about any other restaurant. It isn't open for lunch (sad, wish it was) starting dinner service ar 4pm. It's a nice restaurant with a bar, so wear your Hawaiian shirt, slippers & shorts. If you get there before twilight you can visit Haiku Gardens the path is just to the right of the restaurant and small but lushly beautiful.

This place for me gets its rating for the location and atmosphere, rather than the menu choices or food. There aren't a lot of nice restaurants to choose from in Kaneohe, so several people usually end up here whether they're tourists or not. The atmosphere is great, and it's always nice to see restaurants in Hawaii that can pull off a comfortable open air environment and still maintain some style and class. The food to me isn't the most impressive, and the prices are pretty high. Their specials aren't too thrilling, but overall there's always something on the menu that I can settle on ordering, but it doesn't mean I'm going to remember it afterward. Most of the times when I end up here, it's usually because the party I'm with is too tired to drive to the other side of the island or deal with the Waikiki scene. Haleiwa Joe's is tucked into the Haiku neighborhood, which is a little odd, but in the end it makes for a good location with the views that it's able to provide. I'd recommend this place if you're looking to stay in the Kaneohe area and not willing to drive out further. There's a decent bar and occasionally live Hawaiian style music, and it's a good place to bring anyone that's visiting you. Comfortable with good views, ambiance, and service, but can be pricey with a menu that isn't the most impressive.

The view is good, and the prime rib was great. It looked good too - this is the sort of place a movie location scout would choose if they were looking for an upscale tropical restaurant that's not on a beach.

Excellent Aesthetics! Good Food! Decent Service! I ordered the fish of the day - Moonfish, Chinese Style - It was good, not great - I just don't think that the sauce added much to the flavor of the fish - maybe that's the idea but overall it tasted very "unsauced". For me, a little more flavor would have been appreciated - but I can understand if you are looking for something that keeps the natural flavor of the fish this would be a good sauce choice, to me moonfish has so little flavor it needs a more prominent sauce to complement it properly. I also had an order of the calamari, nothing impressive but good - lots of small random pieces at the end. We had the poke - it was great! I recommend. I also ordered a spinach salad which was on par with what you would expect of a spinach salad with balsamic vinegarette. I went with the local draft on tap, always a good choice. Ambiance was key. Lots of pretty waitstaiff and a beautiful view of the water fountain in the center of a pond that sits on the edge of the beautiful Haiku Gardens. It seemed touristy based the clientele in my opinion, but then again, who am I to say... However, the staff seemed very "programmed" with thier answers and suggestions. And when the computer system had a malfunction the best response was "you need to stay put until we fix it". Rather than coming up with a resonable solution. They eventually took credit cards and told us that they would run them in the morning when the computers came on-line. I'm not blaming the staff for the computer error, but thier response was less than impressive. They could have pulled out a calculator and offered a cash option as well. I overheard the prime-rib is pretty legit

First of all.... Don't freak out when you think Siri has stirred you wrong with directions. Its located in behind Haiku Gardens in what seems to be completely residential and right before Haiku Woods. We parked and still got lost in the car park trying to find it b/c it was hidden in the corner next to the apartments. But it really was very nice and busy, as expected on a Friday evening. The building itself is open-air like a verandah but although it was rainy, we were all completely dry and saw no sign that weather would be an issue. But I will say (this is really bitchy and superficial but whatever...it has to be said..) WORST STAFF ATTIRE EVER. The style of the shirts and dresses are fine but when we walked in, I was appalled b/c I thought the hostess' boob was popping out and then I looked at her colleague and I thought, "OMG, these women and their boobs!" but it was the print on their dresses! And even though I realized that, it still freaked me out throughout our dinner and then I looked at the men's shirts and thought, "That's like some 90's obscure trapper keeper print...why?" They have a decent bar set-up complete with TVs and American fundamentalists with camo print hats and shirts. I didn't know what to order. (The rule in our house is: "NO STEAK." (My Italian husband is a former shorthand chef and the best not-cook cook that I know. He told me, "why pay $30 for a steak that I could top at home for $10. And he's never let me down so I abide.) So I got the Salmon (pronounced "Sah-men", the "L" is silent.) and SJ got the "Haiku Chicken". Both were really good. She mentioned that she's not really into rice but their rice was really good. I normally don't get fish but I've suddenly matured...It was very tasty and I think even my dude would've appreciated the pesto. But other raters are right. There was nothing great about the food. It was pretty typical. The only complaint I have is that for beer, I asked my server what he had on draught b/c one of the selections was "Local Tap." and for Sierra Nevada, it doesn't say which SN beer it is... So he just redirected me to look at the menu... and I got Sierra Nevada and it ironically was one that I am not a fan of.... SJ got the Red Lava, and when it came out she said, "that's not a Red Lava." she didn't say whether she liked it or not but told me I had to try it. IT HAD PEPPERS IN IT.... and I really liked it! So, yeah. It was pretty good. Before when my beloved SJ asked me I wanted to go to an actual restaurant for once, we agreed no chain restaurants b/c we want to keep Hawaii fresh. Eat the local digs and experience Hawaii... But I feel like this was another chain restaurant. I am convinced that most of crowd was military and military affiliated. There seemed to be some locals but it there was a lot of camo and high water, tight legged jeans and NFL hats.

The waiter Martin was very friendly and attentive. I never went without water! The menu is great and there are several selections that rNge from beef, seafood, pork and salads. Everything was cooked perfectly and the taste is consistently good! Get there early or ask to sit in the bar. PS. The sourdough rolls are great as is the Hawaii Nui beer. Only beer tuely bottled in Hawaii! Local kine grinds with class and ambiance!

I love the location and the atmosphere of Haleiwa Joe's tucked back against the Ko'Olau Mtns. Tiki torches surround the place and if you need to wait, the grounds are gorgeous to walk around. There is a quaint little path down to a gazebo on a lake. A great place to go for fish. I was so happy with their new ginger/citrus creme brulee last time I went! On the downside, they do not take reservations and on the weekends it can easily be an hour or more wait.

Yes the view is great! Yes the place gets PACKED. Yes it's kinda pricey...well, not kinda, it is pricey. Get there early. Like 4:30pm early. Enjoy happy hour drinks (Li Hing Margarita!!!) and puu-puu's and then get your order in for the Prime Rib right away. Tip: Split the prime rib. Ask for a little extra mash/veggie on a separate plate and then cut the prime rib when you get it. Otherwise, it's a waste! PS - rolls are hot and heavenly! And did I mention that Li Hing Margarita?

Beautiful setting, food was pretty darn good... the view just throws it over the top with the Haiku Gardens and the picturesque rainforest mountains as a backdrop

I was completely blown away at the size of the prime rib.... actually have never seen anything like it! Yes there was quite a bit of fat, but no worries.... lots of meat too! Husband and I shared. We went for Fathers Day Dinner. The Wedge blue cheese salad ROCKS enough for 3-4 people as an appetizer. We also ordered the pesto escargot... tasty but very rich and oily...could only eat one. Loved the complementary hot sourdough rolls with the wedge salad! Garden view was front and center at our table....AWESOME! Ya, we'll shall be back!

Tried this Haleiwa Joes location for the first time last Sunday. It was actually my bf's dad's choice to try this place cause he heard the prime rib was the best. So the location itself over looks Haiku Gardens which was really nice. Minus all the mosquito's that were attacking me. The service was alright. I would give them a four but with the service being below average I could only give this restaurant three stars. Though I will admit the prime rib is delicious. It was one hella big cut of meat!! I wouldn't really recommend anything else on the menu. It all looks mediocre.

I took my husband for the first time two weeks ago. I was our date night and let's just say he keeps asking to go back. I had a Lava Flow and prime rib! It was the most delish piece of meat I have ever had & definitely worth the money. My husband had the chicken and was quite impressed. The chocolate cake was even good but def get it without the raspberry drizzle. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the service wasn't 100%. Our server Mike went MIA for awhile but nonetheless it was def worth the trip. We will be going again next week.

Thai fried fish special was quite tasty but a little overcooked. The real highlight was the Kona Mud Pie which was a huge slab of kona, with orea crust and drizzled chocolate. Mmm.

This location is amazing! Before we even sat at our table we were in love with this place. The restaurant sits up and overlooks their amazing grounds in the shadow of the beautiful Ko'olau Mountain(s). It's an open air restaurant which means no walls! It reminds me of old Hawaii from the 50s, it's just wonderful... Ok, so now the food, My husband had the fresh baked fish of the day, which he said was amazing, I had the coconut shrimp and it was delicious and our son had one of their kid size fresh fish-it turned out to be Mahi Mahi and he couldn't stop talking about how it was the best fish he ever had...(he never had mahi mahi before!). Their Mai Tai's were great! We can't wait to go back.

Ordered the prime rib due to overwhelming comments and what the waitress raved about it. They said the prime rib sells out everyday. I ordered a medium rare cut. However when I received it and cut through the center, it was well done and as hard as leather. After inquiring about with the waitress, the manager said this was the rarest piece. Definitely shocked and appalled by their response and unwillingness for any exchange. Wouldnt go back.

Great for Sunday Brunch! Although there aren't any crab legs, the scenery at this place makes up for it, big time! Especially if you got to sit where you can see a waterfall from afar! I don't quite remember all that they had at the buffet I just remembered it all being good! They even served li hing mui margaritas! I'm not a fan of li hing mui, but I'm a fan of margaritas! Although I didn't have one, I wanted to enjoy the food. My brother and my sister in law however had 2nds and 3rds of it! So it must've been good! This location was quite hidden, why? Because when you found it, it was paradise! It was raining hard when we ate here, but it made it even more beautiful seeing the water hit the pond below us. After eating, you can visit the garden below surrounded by the pond. There's a nice gazebo to take cool pictures at. You can even walk a little trail, but be careful, after it rains it's slippery/muddy, you may slip and fall, I know because my brother did lol! One word best describes this place, breathtaking! But don't get me wrong, that's all of Hawaii too! =)

Beautiful view of the gardens below the restaurant. We at first sat by the railing but it got so windy and rainy we were relocated. Service was wonderful and the food was big portions that everyone had to take home half their plates. All the food we had was excellent - King crab, salmon, a fish special, steak. Go early because they do not take reservations and I hear it could be a long wait.

My girlfriend and I came here with some friends and it was a real treat. We split the Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and vegetables, and an Asian Chicken Salad. The Filet Mignon was a perfect medium rare, more on the rare side just like we asked for. The mashed potatoes were awesome, not too chunky and not too whipped. Vegetables consisted of green beans and carrots which were crisp and well seasoned. The salad had a whole grilled chicken breast on top which was not at all dry or lacking in flavor, it was very delicious. Beneath the chicken was a bed of micro greens tossed with a very nice Asian vinaigrette which was light and flavorful. Our waiter was very attentive friendly and pleasant always offer great suggestions at every part of our meal.

This is our GO-TO spot when friends and family come to visit. You can't beat the atmosphere with a stick! Get there early because they don't take reservations and fill up fast. Request a table with a view, and enjoy any of their tasty cocktails in the lounge while waiting. In my opinion the atmosphere here is trumped only by dinner or drinks at the Moana Surfrider at sunset. It's worth the drive to Kaneohe even if you're only visiting on the Waikiki side (happy hour time is highly recommended for both the scenery and your wallet)! The B&B Ahi, Crab rolls, and any of their Poke are my favorite apps. The salads are good but i'm not much of a salad guy. The fish is always great whether grilled, baked, or their daily Special. The rest of their entrees are yummy but in my experience you can not go wrong with their catch of the day! Split their ice cream with caramel and fresh fruit (it's big enough for two) for a simple yet delicious ending to a great meal if you still have room.

Again, this is another place we stop by in Hawai'i every summer. Their food is good. It's pretty "outdoorsy" meaning that it's open to the outside. There's no real walls or anything so if mosquitos love your blood, make sure you put on some repellent on. There were countless times when I didn't put it on and got bit all over. The service are all really friendly too. You can ask whatever you want and they'll serve. You will see geckos crawling in the restaurant too, which is pretty normal.

For all your PRIME RIB lovers.....This is the place to be!!! Haleiwa Joe's located in Kaneohe over looking the koolau mountains, the view as well as the food is Amazing. The only thing that I don't much like is the fact that they don't take reservations but I can overlook that because I have always had great service and my wait time has never been that bad. The trick is to be there by 5:00 pm so that you can get seated and order your prime rib before they run out. I usually don't look at the menu for my meal because all I usually order is the prime rib...a HUGE 32oz. protion. I usually have enough left over prime rib for 2 other meals....yum!!! Once I went there and they had run out of the prime rib obviously I was sad but I tried one of their fish entrees and it was also good. I used to live in Kaneohe so for me it was right down the road but even now that I have moved back to Aiea I think it is still worth the drive over to the windward side to dine at this fine establishment.

Haleiwa Joe's reminds me of my college boyfriend....so hot, so perfect, even my family loved him...but I just couldn't marry him, something was just not quite right. HJ's left me with the same feeling...gorgeous scenery, delectable eats, strong cocktails...but something kept this place from hitting it out of the park and getting the full five stars. The difference between my college boyfriend and HJ's, is that I can tell you what wasn't right about HJ's. Our really cree....uh, I mean, interesting server, Martin. He appeared out of nowhere, much like that dude on Mr. Deeds, and immediately told us we needed to order ribs now if we wanted them...uh, dude, we don't even know who you are yet, we haven't cracked menus, and I sure as heck have not had a drink yet, let alone know if I want ribs or not...isn't this all moving a little too fast? I mean, we just met! Aside from the sneak attack about ribs, he was oddly absent. I'm not expecting to be waited on hand and foot, but really the stars of the service that night were the busy boys and food expos. I came here with my parents who were visiting from the mainland and they wanted to treat me and two of my girlfriends who are also spouses of deployed Marines. It was a beautiful night in Kaneohe and we got the best table in the house! Right out on the balcony, it provided my parents a perfect view of the Koolaus, and motivated my dad to hike the Haiku Stairs next time they visit. Free tip for my single gentlemen: Much like Ola's at Turtle Bay, if your lady friend isn't in love with you yet...bring her here! It's a magical place...and hey, if you play your cards right, maybe she'll marry you on the spot. They do weddings! If she says no, I recommend the Staremaster...enough liquor in one of those to make you forget rejection and go back to playing the field! All of our entrees were amazing. I had the salmon with Asian pesto and potato crunchies (aka straws), garlic mashed potatoes, and veggies. Omg, I didn't want it to end! My mother had the Opa, Chinese-style, wrapped in ti leaves. Not only was it wrapped and presented like a fabulous edible present, but it tasted phenomenal, too! Both fish fillets were grilled to perfection, moist, and flaky! There were a number of scrumptous looking desserts we saw going to various tables. Notably a chocolate lava cake that looked like a volcano, but those were meals in and of themselves and we'll have to return to try them next time there's a girlfriend who needs major consoling or any other crisis that can only be remedied by chocolate cake! I know I'll keep going back to HJ's, odd service aside, the beautiful views, great food and cocktails, and generally relaxing atmosphere will bring me back...I just don't see us getting serious, just not marriage material!

Just average. Mediocre in all respects. Nice view, but I'm not eating the view. 1. Service - highly mediocre. Waitress was busy doing random things that other staff should have been doing. She was more focused on finishing her shift than providing the service that a $25/plate restaurant warrants. 2. Food - a ghetto version of Roy's. One notch down on every level: flavor, presentation, creativity, etc. Honestly, I could have invented the menu. The only thing that impressed me was the scallop cakes. 3. Ambience - nice, but again, incongruous with the food and service. Definitely would not come back here again, because there are just so many more places I could have a mediocre meal at.

We've been vacationing on Windward Oahu for 20 years and this was our first visit to Haleiwa Joes. Can't believe we've missed out on this restaurant for so long!! The view and the food were 5 stars. We were greeted and seated right away. Unfortunately, the waitress was not informed we were there. So we sat for quite a while. She was very apologetic and very attentive from that point on. Kept our drinks refilled, and checked on us often. The restaurant is surrounded by beautiful tropical foliage looking over a pond, with a mountain in the background. The whole restaurant is open-air. Very tropical surroundings, with tiki torches too. Great menu. We had filet mignon/garlic mashed potatoes/steamed vegies and chipotle pork chop/garlic mashed/vegies. And OMG!!!!! Both were fantastic. But the flavor of the bone-in pork chop was unbelievable! Very moist and tender. So flavorful. You MUST try this! The prices were very reasonable, about $60 for 2 of us (the night before we spend $250 on a meal at Roys that was completely inferior to this meal). Just wish we had discovered this place BEFORE our last night here! We can't stop thinking about that pork chop.

i tried haleiwa joe's in haleiwa - thumbs somewhat down! this place has better food, better service and WAAAAAAAAAAY better view. wow.. it's hard to believe that there can be a place with an ambience so serene, not too far from the highway. 5 for ambiance 3.5 for food... i'll average to a 4 :)

If you do go there get the prime rib! It's the best deal (huge slab of perfectly cooked meat) and only entree I found delicious ( tried 5 others from other diners). Actually I shouldn't say anything since they always sell out and sometimes I don't make it in time :(

This place is great! We came to visit family in Jan. of this year, and before we were about to leave, they wanted to take us to Halievva's. The food was onolishious and the view of the surronding area was not only beautiful, but peaceful. Well, at least I think so.

I just want to keep this short, pros: food was good, service was good, the restaurant is nice, and the most important thing is the view of the gardens is amazing! The cons: the wait was a hour, but maybe because it was mothers day. Other than that this place is a winner!

The good - Web site allows us to check out the menu ahead of time. Aloha Hour (Happy Hour). Special menu items and drinks at a special price! Joe's Tempura Crab Roll and Curried Scallop Cakes. Yummy. The bartender was super friendly, the rest of the staff seemed pleasant. It's tucked away in Haiku Village on the east side of the island (my side of the island!), so scenery is unbeatable. Lastly, there are chickens freely running around the grounds. The Bad - The Poke Platter; four different preparations, two disasters. Chipotle poke and Coconut milk poke just didn't work. Pulled Pork Sliders were on the sweet side. Too bad. There is no AC in the place - it probably gets uncomfortable and hazy during Konas. The Ugly - NOTHING. The food is average, some good, some bad. The service is above average, so that's a plus. The price is right, especially during "Aloha Hour." The bar opens at 4:30pm - a little late for us, but it works for most. And, who could argue with the view?! The view of the Koolau is phenomenal from every seat in the house.

I went here for dinner with someone who had been here before and the view from the place is very impressive. As you can see from some of the pictures the grounds the restaurant over looks are great and it is a neat looking place, that is very open and airy. The food is pretty good, but it's not the best I've ever had. They don't take reservations so we decided to wait at the bar. The bar was pretty busy and there were two bartenders for the entire bar. I had a Madam Pele and a Paniolo Prince and they were kind of watery and didn't have a lot of flavor or alcohol. We were early, so we did not have to wait more than about 10 minutes. The service is quite good by Hawaii standards and we didn't have to wait long for drink refills, etc. When I had the Chipotle Porks Chops and they were more sweet than spicy and smokey. I also had the garden salad with the house dressing, which was very good and was the biggest surprise of the meal. If I go back I would definitely go early. The location is great and the view is amazing. It's worth going to at least once.

My review is based exclusively on the prime rib and the mai tais...I don't go here for anything else....the pupus are okay...I stick to what I know and that is the PRIME RIB!!!! So juicy! So Ono! So Big! Oh god my mouth is watering just thinking about it, and I already stuffed face earlier tonight. The mai tais are just perfect too! You even get to keep the cool cup. Man..don't have more than three though...hard to drive back to town.

We came here and ordered the tandoori shrimp salad which was really good. The vinaigrette was tangy and sweet and the shrimps were nice and tender. My boyfriend ordered the prime rib and it was HUGE!!! About 2 lb, he couldn't finish it and he likes his meat - plus it was a good price for the amount of meat we got, about $32. I got the special of the night which was a marlin with some yummy cranberry/macademia crust in roasted shallot beurre blanc. Oh man it was delicious! A little pricey but the food was well worth it. Plus the restaurant has a great ambience and beautiful view. No wonder so many people get married here.

My husband and I went here on a Saturday night with another couple. We arrived around 8pm and were scared we would have to wait a while for a table since we didn't have reservations, but we were seated in 5 minutes (score!). It was my first time here and only went because our friends were planning to hold their wedding reception there and wanted our opinion on the place. Ambiance: Laid back, Hawaiian feel. Open air and apparently overlooking the gardens, which we couldn't see since it was dark. Even though it was open air, it wasn't hot or uncomfortable. Food: Surprisingly good. I had the top sirloin with garlic mash potatoes and the hubby had the chipotle grilled pork chops. Both were very good. The pork chops were a little too spicy for my taste, but it does say chipotle so we should have known it would be spicy. Our friend's had the Chinese style fish and grilled salmon spinach salad. Both looked really good. Portions were a good size for the price we paid. Overall: Would go again if I were in the area and I'm excited to eat there again for my friend's wedding reception. :)

If you get to Haleiwa Joe's around 5pm when dinner seating starts as first come first serve, you more than likely will get a table with a wonderful view of the pond and foliage perhaps even catch a wedding in progress. According to the menu, most or all of their dishes uses local ingredients...funny thing is none of the dishes we ordered, which included salads had any local greens, tomatoes, onions, etc. This was a huge disappointment. Based on our order tonight, here's some of my thoughts: Appetizers: Haleiwa Shrimp Martini - Rock salt shrimp (sounds impressive, but from what I've seen it's just a bigger brother to bay shrimp) mixed with mango, red onions, and cocktail sauce - This dish was salty and the onions had a very strong bite. Crab Roll Sushi - This dish was actually recommended and my recommendation is, if you want sushi - go to a sushi place. This dish was a crab mix sushi roll deep fried in a breaded panko mixture. It was fried too long and the oil got into the roll making the rice oily and mushy. It's drizzled with a wasabi-ranch aioli - uh no comment on this one. Entrees: One of us ordered the Fried Coconut Shrimp - Can't really go wrong with this, the shrimp was a good size and fried properly. There was however, a couple of sauces; one was a chutney of some type, which was a little sweet but bland and the other was a sesame type sauce, which was more flavorful. Another ordered the Prime Rib - The best selection from the menu. This is a 24-oz slab of bone-in prime rib, the seasoning was perfect with creamy horse radish and au jus. The steamed/grilled green beans and carrots were salty and the mash potatoes was very runny and salty. I ordered the Grilled Salmon Spinach Salad with Vinaigrette dressing. The salmon was very salty and the entire salad was oily. However I enjoyed the bread with butter (plus I ate a little of everyone's dishes). Overall, if you decide to go here, I highly recommend having the Prime Rib (the only reason I gave this place 3-stars - plus the view) and the Coconut Shrimp.

Since we discovered HJ's, it is our favorite for Happy Hour, great food, great service, great drinks and beautiful surroundings. The setting in Kaneohe is nothing short of spectacular and it is in our neighborhood. I must say that here in Kaneohe, it is slim pickings for a good Happy Hour spot or fantastic dining. We are glad that we have found Haleiwa Joe's, we will be returning and bringing friends.

It amazes me that one brand, with two restaurants, can produce two diametrically opposed experiences. Haleiwa Joe's, on the North Shore, is an atrocious insult to food and is one of the largest wastes of money on the island. Haleiwa Joes at Haiku Gardens is enjoyable, tasty, comfortable, and well worth the drive over from the leeward side. Oahu doesn't have a single water-front restaurant with a view better than HJ's at Haiku Gardens. The setting is idylic--you can smell the forest, the sounds gently caress you as you dine, and the view over the pond is relaxing, enjoyable, and therapuetic. The food is well prepared, a bit expensive for what you get, but better than most options in Kaneohe. If you want to dine on the cheap you can rock a soup and salad with some poke and get out for less than $30 a person. Service is good (terrible outfits the staff have to wear, btw), parking is easy, and they don't take reservations. Come early, or late, but not during prime rush or you'll have to wait.

Awesome food and an even better location! Happy hour starts at 4:30 (bar only) and dinner is served at 5. I haven't had a bad meal here... ever! If you want the famous prime rib I suggest you are seated at 6 or before, it runs out quick!

The best thing at Haleiwa Joe's is the ambience / view. The food is not likely to excite any serious food enthusiasts... but its probably better than it has to be (given that touristy / view restaurants can generally get away offering bad over priced food). Some advice: Mushroom Hot Plate is Good The Chipotle Poke sounds good.. but the cooks here don't know how to work with Chipotle... they are just spooning the Adobo from the can without attempting to temper it Coconut Shrimp are TERRIBLE. I have yet to have good Coconut Shrimp in Hawaii (I keep getting suckered hoping to find a place that at least comes close to the what I eat in Mexico but none has come close yet) The sauces served with various fish dishes are sickly sweet. Last time I was there I had a whole Tai Snapper in Chinese 5 Spice and it was mediocre on many fronts... Henry Louise the Plate Lunch "cave" in an industrial park near the airport does a Whole Moi steamed Chinese style as an occassional lunch special that is substantially superior to the version at Haleiwa Joe's In general, set your food expectations low & enjoy the uncommonly gorgeus view.. I am serious there are not THAT many restaurants around the world that have such a view.

This place was a nice little find just off the beaten track. Tucked away at the foot of the Ko'olau mountains, Joe's provided an awesome ambiance for a quiet dinner. My wife and I actually spent our evening at the cozy bar, ordering drinks and pupus. I'd say the pupus (lil plates) are just okay, but I think the portions were a little on the skimpy side. We tried the coconut shrimp, calamari and special-du-jour Kailua pork lumpia. We then shared a "big plate" (full dinner) of Haiku Chicken. Now normally, when I'm trying a new place I order something out of the ordinary. Having already had some pupus, I opted for a lighter fare. And boy I'm glad I did! This was absolutely one of the best chicken dishes I've had in a while just because of how tender and juicy it was. It was a breast of chicken with the skin left on and marinated in soy sauce, garlic and a hint of ginger. It was then charbroiled over an open flame. Mmm good! The accompanying garlic mashed potatoes were perfectly whipped and the mixed veggies not too soft. Although we didn't eat in the dining room area, the tables are not crammed next to each other so that you would be able to hear the conversation next to you. Instead, they're placed such that you feel you have your own little corner of the restaurant. This would be a nice place to bring out-of-towners as well as an intimate dinner for two. My only negative is that it is a little on the pricey side, given the portions you are served.

The prime rib is delicious! Best prime rib I've ever had. The Chinese style moi is excellent but they unfortunately never have moi when I go. For appetizers, I really like the curried scallop cakes and the Joe's tempura crab roll. One of my favorite restaurants in Hawaii and I've been to a ton. I brought some in-laws who don't even like prime rib in to try it and they loved it. If you haven't tried the prime rib, TRY IT the next time you go!

Probably my favorite restaurant in all of Hawaii. The food is delicious, the service is attentive, and the atmosphere is just beautiful. The restaurant overlooks a very pretty garden and some beautiful mountains in the background. While I'm not usually one for ambiance, the gorgeous scenery really adds to the dining experience. This is the perfect date restaurant. It's a very relaxing place to eat and the atmosphere just puts you at ease. Now, for the most important part: the food. I've eaten here at least 5 times and the food has always been delicious. Recently I tried both the huli huli chicken the mahi mahi wrapped in chinese leaves. The mahi was good and the chicken was delicious. The rolls were fresh and warm too. All in all, a great dining experience that you really have to try for yourself to fully appreciate.

Very good food and nice (if not dated) atmosphere. Everything on Oahu is a little dated, that's the charm of the place. Second only to the Grass Skirt Grill for me on the north shore. When in the parking lot, be aware of preying mantis's. They have some big bastards there!.

If your looking for a place to eat with good food, good drinks, and an AMAZING view then go to Haleiwa Joe's Kaneohe. Their Prime Rib sells out fast, so if you love meat the moment you sit down tell your server thats what you want so they can hold one for you. *The Chipotle Pork Chop has so much flavor it will blow your mind away, its a must try at least one! :)

On my most recent visit here, service was a bit insulting, almost discriminatory. Upon entering, no one acknowledged us, even with the full serving staff in front of us (2nd in line upon opening Sunday morning). The staff looked past us and proceeded to seat others behind us in line. After a moment of frustration, I said "excuse me!, but we were here first". It's like we were invisible. The staff was caucasian and we are locals. The people behind us looked caucasian as well. Did the color of our skin bother you? One of the staff then proceeded to seat us in the hottest, most uncomfortable place, in the DIRECT SUN. It floors me that with 95% of the seating shaded (with similar views) and only one party seated, that we get that spot. If you haven't been to Haleiwa Joe's in Kaneohe, it's MUGGY! Being brought to a open sun area was just insulting. Obviously we asked to be reseated elsewhere. This may be minor things, but to me I deserve to be treated better, especially for the price I'm paying! I doubt I'll be going back here. The food was really nothing special.

Party of four. Three ordered same steak and mine was different. My order was correct and good. The other 3 orders were wrong. 2 different kinds of steaks. Brought to attention of manager and recieved free beer. Really, free beer for a $190 bill.

When we want a good breakfast place, we usually come here, but don't bother coming for Happy Hour with a large bunch of co-workers (15 pax) to celebrate a long weekend. The lounge area where they "like to keep drinks and pupu parties" is barely big enough to call it a happy hour. It wouldn't have been so bad had the hostess NOT have such an attitude about it and it really didn't matter that it was before the dinner seating and the restaurant was completely empty. How do they know we wouldn't have ordered dinner once we sat down and started mingling? Their loss!!

Known for the delicious prime rib that sells out by 7PM, this time was strictly for drinks and pupus. Our pupu menu included: garlic bread, sauteed mushrooms, deep fried calamari, and ahi pokei... all of it was good. But the music they have on Friday made me feel like I was at Mai Tai's, its was way too loud for dining or for having drinks. The place was really crowded also so even though our little table of 4 sat so close we still had to yell. I think I'd stick to going there on any other day but Friday.

Beautiful location especially before dark. Food was bad, worst steamed fish I've ever had and I woke up at 2 a.m. w/food poisoning. The rest of our group wasn't terribly impressed with their food either.

Prime rib and garlic mashed potatoes. No A1 sauce, no horseradish, and no au jus... it was sublime. I can't really say much else except that it was a really good experience. When the server asked if we cared for desert I kinda wanted another round of the prime rib.

Pretty good place. There is a wide variety of food for everyone here. I had the pizza and it was good. The staff are friendly. Sometimes the wait could be long but other then that its a nice place to come and eat.

I went here last night with another couple and their 2-year-old son. They seated us right away and took our drink order. I tried the Mai Tai and my friend had a mojito. Both were excellent. Before dinner we tried the spicy edamame which was traditional edamame tossed in a spicy orange sauce and served cold. It was tasty, but not my favorite dish, as I'm used to eating edamame hot. I also tried the Fish Monger soup prior to my meal and love it! Some of the best fish soup I've had in quite some time. For dinner, our group ordered the flank stank with caramelized onions, the ahi tuna steak and the Bobe grilled fish special with capers. Probably the best part of the meal was the presentation of the food. Everything from the appetizers right down to the kid's meal was presented beautifully with a big ball of sticky rice and grilled veggie garnish. It all tasted delicious, looked great and was served in good time. Our server was very friendly and overall we had a great time. I'd highly recommend Haleiwa Joe's if you're visiting Kaneohe!

Love coming here for happy hour drinks. Happy hour is 4:30-6:30, and though the sports fans can occasionally be rowdy (they often have the games on) the view during sunset is great. Drink prices during Happy hour are reasonable ($4.50-6.00 for mixed drinks) and fun. Come here for the ambiance, not the food. There are other places to get better quality pan-asian/american cuisine on island, and at more reasonable prices. I can't vouch for the Prime Rib, I've never ordered it. Have ordered fish several times before, and sometimes it was undercooked. Sending it back to the kitchen always means it will be tough when it comes back. Quality of bar food and appetizers varies widely and from day to day. Ranging from cold, undercooked, poorly plated, not-so-fresh (which makes ordering poke unattractive) to average, well-prepared, and spot on. You have no idea from day to day what to expect. For dinner, this is a very popular place to come for celebrations. Almost every time we're here, the place is filled with people celebrating newcomers to the island, dates, birthdays, job promotions, and anniversaries. The restaurant is often full of laughter and good cheer. If it's your first time, get here early enough to watch the sun go down, and take a stroll through Haiku Gardens (it's free and easily accessible) below the restaurant. But keep moving, cause the mosquitoes can get you.

I'm giving 4 stars because I loved the atmosphere and the view of the mountains and Haiku Gardens. It's gorgeous in daylight and gorgeous when the sun goes down. Drinks and food were good. I had the grilled fish which I believe which Ono at that time. We had a large group and it was a great place for everyone. My only complaint was that they were working on the restrooms at the time and you had to use a porta-potty!!!! Ahhhhh! That's gross, but hopefully the constuction didn't go on too long. Okay, so I went back last weekend and was yet again impressed. Restrooms are done, thank goodness, and I had the grilled fish special with garlic mashed instead of rice. Yummy! I can't remember what fish it was for the life of me, though; sorry. And I love when they turn on the tiki torches...gorgeous.

Haleiwa Joe's at Haiku gardens is consistently fabulous. There is honestly nothing on the menu that has not been wonderful. The view is amazing so go before dark. If you love prime rib this is the place for you. Huge pieces are served and cooked to perfection. Come early though because the prime rib sells out early. Portions are generous and side dishes are tasty. The filet is fabulous and the shrimp is as well. The service is usually great and waiters/waitresses are always attentive. The only down side is that they do not accept reservations. Seats are at a premium so get there early!

I go here quite often. The calamari is the best appetizer to start with. Had a great macadamia and coconut crusted fish too. Its a great place to hang out for some drinks and appetizers or have a date. It's classy but not too upscale or over the top. Has a gorgeous view of a pond and flora/fauna. Seated at the base of the mountains as well. The view is absolutely breathtaking

They don't know how to cook fish there! seriously!!! this is Hawaii; if you don't know how to cook your fish perfectly, get out of the restaurant business. It's also severely overpriced. I can have a terrible fish for much, much less. Salads are mediocre. Beef seems to be done fine, IF they even have it. Every time we came, they were out of ribs. Really nothing spectacular....

You may wonder why it is called Haleiwa Joe's when it is in Haiku Gardens. Well that is because the original Haleiwa Joe's was and is still in Haleiwa. There used to be one in Rancho Mirage, just a couple miles from Palm Springs, that we went to all the time as well. It was on our last night back "home" and I wanted to go some place "Islandy". Since we were in Kaneohe,I thought of Joe's. I remember attending many a function"back in the day" (what does that phrase really mean?) when the loction was simply called Haiku Gardens. Luau's weddings, birthday parties, lots of good memories. The setting is stunning....The restaurant sits up on the hill overlooking a pond and gazebo with the backdrop of the Koolau mountains. Beautiful. We were there on a slower Monday night which made it very relaxed and peaceful. We opted to forgo appetizers and do salads instead. The house salad with the sesame/miso dressing was nice and light. For entree's we had the coconut shrimp, lightly breaded with coconut flakes, and I tried the Island fish prepared "chinese style " with ginger, scallions, and cilantro all wrapped in ti leaves and steamed. I was nervous as I had never heard of the fish and it was described to be like a swordfish. Not liking dense fish I was afraid of it being dry. The waiter promised it would not be. The kitchen did not make a liar out of him. It was moist and delicious. They have a very good selection of wine and VERY reasonably priced. We had the Sienna. I have seen this for twice the price on their wine list... Dinner too formal? Happy Hour at Haleiwa Joe's may hit the spot. Great pupus and Joe's drink specials

They were good. I got the grilled fish. Really good. Wife got the baked fish she loved it and I liked it also. Dad got ribs and he thought pretty good, but he really loved his baked potato with sour cream and butter. Daughter got Filet Mignon she liked it and I thought pretty good. Over all everyone loved their food and the Waiter was great service. Great view!!!!!!!!!!!! Lot's of room between the tables. The tables are not all crowded in but placed with plenty of room for people to pass by you. It's gives you the feeling of some privacy vice your chair bumping the neighbors table. Good for kids. I marked out door seating it's more like a covered roof with one side open to the outside for nice view. You will pay $30.00+ per person if you just stick with a entree. No pupu, No desert. Won't take reservations and won't seat your group until your whole group is there. Easy parking lot to park in. Food delivered quickly, and was hot and well prepared. It is kinda pricey. But since everyone liked the meal I'll suck up the price.

I've only been here for sunday brunch, and it was well worth it. Its buffet style, with everything from island style seafood, to prime rib, and the ambience is fantastic! After you eat, you can stretch, and digest by walking around the restaurant. Check it out, you'll know what I mean! One more of kaneohes hidden spots.

I like this place alot! It's tucked away in Kaneohe, off the Kam Highway right on top of the Haiku Gardens. It's surrounded by lush vegetation and a huge tree is parked up front (a Banyan tree I think). The view from your table of the mountains is something I will always appreciate until the day I die. I also see ducks and chickens and roosters in the parking lot all the time. Gotta love the ambience here! I usually go here for Sunday Brunch or dinner. They don't take reservations, so it's 1st come 1st served. Food is very good overall, but their sashimi / poke leaves something to be desired big time. Bar has a great selection of signature cocktails - Mai Tai, Blue Hawaii, all that good stuff. After eating, and if it's still light out, we take a stroll in the Haiku Gardens. Great way to top off a meal!

Stopped in at Joe's at the suggestion of a local. We got there just as they opened for "Hawaii hour". They did not seat for dinner till 5:30pm, but we had two of their drink specials (very tasty), and had their Pu Pu. Appetizers were plenty for our dinner. Absolutely great service and spectacular scenery. Hawaii as you would expect at it's best.

Great food, excellent atmosphere, a must! The wife and I go there at least every other month, and we take any visiting guest to the island there as well. The best mixed drinks and cold beer go great with the Pu Pus! They seat at 1730/530PM, but you can sit at the bar starting at 1630/430PM. I recommend whatever the special is for the day or anything else on the menu, they never disappoint!

The open-air feel and the views of the garden were the perfect ambiance for our mainland visitors to show them exactly why we live here. The menu has plenty of fish dishes, but also has your standard set of steaks, pork chops, and other American fare. Anyone you bring here will be wowed. The spicy edamame was perfect as was the calamari. there are alot os small platters (pupus) to choose from. The staff was friendly and very helpful. When we explained that it was our first time there our waiter explained exactly how everything worker there. The deserts looked very good, although I had no room left for any after my baked fish. I was really hoping for some bread pudding but I think that is on the brunch buffet because they did not have it on the regular menu when we went :( . It is a bit pricey but for the quality and quanitiy of the food you get it is money well spent! It will definitely be where we take all of our visitors.

My wife and I were lucky enough to be married at Haiku gardens right below Haleiwa Joe's and we had a nice dinner with family afterwards. This place is a little off the beaten path but well worth the drive from Honolulu. The setting is picturesque with the mountains in the background and the beautiful tropical gardens surrounding everything. The food was amazing!! We have been back several times but my favorite was a baked Opa with a mango salsa and purple sweet potatos, yum!! Excellent Mai Tais and you can even keep the glass. I've had Wahoo, Opa, Ahi, Butterfish and some I can't even remember and they were all spectacular! The Lava cake with cream cheese center and raspberry topping is amazing!! I can't say enough great things about Haleiwa Joe's, don't pass up an opportunity to go there!!

I'd like to start by saying that I'd give them 3.5 to 4 stars. The lower side for service and the supper for the actual food! I have eaten here for lots of occasions: Mothers Day, Father's Day, Birthday, Engagement and no occasion at all. Except for one experience the service is nice but minimal. You wait a long time for your food. I really think if they fine tuned the ability to turn over tables, seat and serve quickly they have the potential for huge success financially and socially as a must-go-to restaurant. The food is usually really good. It can be very pricey for dinner. If that is a factor for you, try the Brunch every Sunday. Would frequent more if they had better service and gave a little more food for dinner. ONE MAJOR SUCKY FACTOR: NO RESERVATIONS! Also, they will not seat you unless every last person is present. Like if you have a party of 10 and 9 people are there, no seating for you. They will pass you up and take the next guy!

This place is absolutely wonderful! It's about time I wrote a review for this place! I've been going to this restaurant with my boyfriend for a few years now and I wanted to take my aunt and cousin visiting from Korea to this place too. First off, the scenery is absolutely beautiful! No wonder people have their wedding at the Haiku Gardens down below! We strolled down at about 5:40 PM (They open the lounge/bar area at 4:30 PM and start dinner at 5:30 PM; they don't take reservations, it's first come first served) on a Wednesday and took some pictures at the gazebo and of the flowers. Next we went back up and got seated rather quickly. I asked the waiter for what he enjoyed the best and he recommended the Coconut shrimp (with plum and a sort of mustard sauce), the Fresh Baked fish (which I think changes every so often), a type of fish with coconut, and a new special they had that night, a pineapple glazed mahimahi with mashed sweet potatoes and grilled zucchini for the vegetable on the side. It was so good that we had to order the other special on the menu which was a guava glazed pork chop. The pork chop was cooked so well and was a nice thick slice served atop garlic mashed potatoes with garlic infused string beans. So delicious!!! Oh, and for the appetizers we had the black and blue ahi with wasabi sauce and the special appetizer that night, the shrimp martini (which was kind've like a shrimp cocktail, only with mini shrimp and some chopped up bits of mango, ginger, and something else, mixed with the cocktail sauce). Everything on the menu that we tried that night was absolutely wonderful! My cousin especially enjoyed the coconut shrimp, probably because it was fried, and my aunt enjoyed the coconut sauced fish. The waiter informed us that the only fish that ISN'T caught locally was the salmon. Everything was fresh and clean and the food came out rather speedily as well. It was a wonderful experience and that is why I come here at least every six months. I definitely recommend this place either for a family gathering or for a romantic date (my boyfriend and I usually come here for our anniversaries).

It is a bit pricey but decent food for what you pay for. I had their escargots, which was ok. I'd prefer the ones from Side Street Inn. Their prime rib was really good. I also had their Sticky Ribs, which were rightly named but a tad bit on the tough/stringy side. It wasn't like the "fall off the bone" kine. All in all the scenery was beautiful. Just gotta account for the mosquitoes.

We really enjoyed our dinner at this location by Haiku Gardens. The setting was gorgeous, and the food was great too. My BF ordered Prime Rib with mashed potatoes, I ordered a Fresh Baked Furikake Opah and Emma's Poke to share. The Prime Rib was my favorite from everything we ordered, it was really delish. My fish was really tasty as well. We paid about $100 plus tip for our dinner with a bottle of wine. We thought it was pretty reasonable for Oahu. I definitely recommend this place. Just keep in mind they are only open from 5-9:30 I believe, about 4 hours a day, so don't try going there for lunch.

went here for a wedding rehearsal dinner. the calamari was really good. they gave us some bread to start with that could probably inflict second-degree burns on you. salmon with pesto over garlic mashed potatoes were good. didn't get dessert...dammit. the views were awesome there....definitely got a nice vibe, and some amazingly beautiful servers, which really shouldn't factor in on one's dining experience, but what can i say?

This is the only restaurant on the Windward side with that tiki-torch, lush, open-air atmosphere that I look for when entertaining folks from the Mainland (or when I just want to feel like I'm away from the city.) LOVE the atmosphere, although the carpets (especially in the hallway to the restrooms) are smelling reeeaaally moldy. They had a great fish entree on the menu a few months ago, with coconut milk and an apricot (or mango?) relish, topped with actual coconut - it was like dessert, and delicious. They make a nice Caesar salad, and the happy hour prices in the bar are great. Most of the pupu fare is good, especially the kalbi ribs. Unfortunately, the last two times I visited (within the last month) have me thinking I won't be back for a while. Service was TERRIBLE (server actually forgot all of our salads, and didn't seem overly concerned with that fact.) It seemed an imposition to get him to tell us about the fish that evening, and he never offered coffee or tea after the meal - he was clearly trying to rush the four of us out of there, even though it was only 7:30, and several tables around us were empty. The food both times was just awful. I had the chicken sticks with red curry sauce and steamed vegetables. There were perhaps 8 little chunks of squash swimming in a watery (but tasty) white sauce (that did taste of red curry), and several VERY dried-out, bland chicken pieces on sticks. The other entrees at the table were similarly awful (the ahi even looked awful - like a chunk of white and pale pink jello plopped on a plate.) And what's with all the "steamed white rice" - with almost every entree? The prices are so high, one would hope that the chef would get a bit more creative. They don't take reservations for some sadistic reason, even though there tends to be a long wait for tables (and the bar is usually full.) Hopefully we'll get wind that the food and service has taken an upswing in the new year. Otherwise, we'll have to head over to Lucy's in Kailua for client dinners, etc.

We thought Joe's was just great. We had just appetizers - all were fantastic, not at all "plain" as some people have suggested. Our service was great - the waitress was very attentive. And the view we had was especially fantastic. We've been to a couple other places in the area since, and nbone come close.

The ambience is beautiful, day or night, although you might want to bring mosquito spray if you tend to attract mosquitos. Their wine list is reasonably extensive and the menu itself is the typical local-fusion-seafood-and-others fare. I wish they had scallops on the entree menu. I ordered the chipotle pork chops and found them pleasantly spicy. The servers are also very friendly and happy, adding to the enjoyable environment.

On our last night in Oahu, my boyfriend and I decided to have dinner here. It was a saturday night and we arrived at Haleiwa Joe's at around 7 or so. We were told that the wait would be about 30 minutes so we sat at the bar and had a couple of drinks. I was starving so of course I was scoping out what everyone else was ordering and everything looked delicious but my mind was set on having the prime rib. When we got to our table and put in our orders I was told that they had just served their last prime rib for the day and that they only start out with 14 every morning... bummer. I ended up ordering the ahi which was pretty tasty but definitely did not suffice. The service was fantastic!! We left that night wishing we could bring everyone that we met back home to cali with us because they are all SOOOOOOOOO friendly.

I always make it a point to drive out to Kaneohe to have Sunday brunch here when I am visiting Oahu. Beautiful tropical garden setting that you can enjoy viewing, as you eat a sumptuous buffet that represents island cooking and traditional brunch food items well. You can stroll through the garden afterwards and take some beautiful pictures.

Whoooo hoooooo!! The atmosphere is great here, looking over a garden and a pond, they light tiki torches at night for ambiance. The food is good, they also have a brunch buffet every Sunday. The have the best mud pie by far. They also offer a happy hour, with great appetizers!

Great place for dinner and drinks with friends. We used to live across the street from this restaurant, so we visited quite often. The food, atmosphere, and service is very nice. A little on the expensive side, but worth the price in my opinion. The desserts are great!

This place is a big "meh" for me. The setting and view are phenomenal, but the food is pretty average and way overpriced, and as a vegetarian who gets dragged here by my family, I resent their complete lack of vegetarian entrees. It's hands-down the most meat-centric place I've been on this island so far. Whenever we go here, I'm stuck with ordering a salad and a baked potato (hold the bacon), since they can't be bothered to put even a vegetarian pasta or stir-fry on their menu like most other places on Oahu do. Last night I tried to branch out and ordered the salad, a side of mashed potatoes, and the sizzling mushrooms appetizer. I think the mushrooms gave me the runs and have concluded that one person is not meant to eat that many greasy fried mushrooms. Blech. Another fun experience - last night my mom ordered some kind of baked fish and when she cut into it, it was stone-cold raw in the center. It took a long time to get it sent back and get a new one, and by the time she got her properly-cooked fish, the rest of us had finished eating. Awkward. I'd come here for drinks and enjoy the fabulous view, and then go spend my food money elsewhere.

You come here for two reason's: The Prime Rib and the Ambience/Setting. Maybe three: The Mud Pie. It's set overlooking the Koolau's, which is priceless, that combined with their Prime Rib special, which is a $25.99 for a 32oz cut. Awesome. The menu is similar to that of Duke's Waikiki-steak and seafood. I've ordered the filet mignon, ribeye, ahi, salmon and opah and never have I been let down. It has that tiki lounge feel, which works because of the view. It's first-come first serve regarding the Prime-Rib, they serve around 30 plates. Several times, I've come over the H3 from town, to find out that they are all out, so get there early.

The open air atmosphere and casual island feel at Joe's is wonderful. If you need to wait long for a table, they have a full bar and a beverage server that will keep you in drinks even after you are seated for your meal. The menu is fun and all 6 at our table LOVED our meal. Several had fish, a couple steaks and appetizers too. Slightly pricey- we averaged 110 per couple, but for a fun dinner out with friends or guest this is a perfect island place to eat. The wait staff have fun personalities and I will go back many times.

My fiances mom was visiting so we strolled over to Haleiwa joes for an early dinner. My fiance and i decided to skip on apps this time and just go straight to the prime rib. We both wanted an end cut but they only had one so i let him have it. I'm still wondering why i ordered the prime rib because when it came i could barely get through a 1/4 of it. My fiance on the other hand had no problem eating all of his...i think he even nibbled on the bone a little...lol. My mother-in-law ordered the grilled fish with garlic sauce. She absolutely loved it and gobbled it all up. And now my favorite part of any meal dessert...for dessert we ordered the molten cake i believe its called its a chocolate cake with a creamcheese filling topped with a huge scoop of mac nut ice cream with raspberry sauce and a side of warm chocolate to drizzle over. I'm not big on raspberry sauce so i ordered a scoop of mac nut ice cream. My fiance and his mom went to town on the molten cake. Sharing with my fiance isn't really sharing because he take ginormous bites. His mom was left feeling unsatisfied after eating the molten cake because my fiance ate most of it. She really loved the mac nut ice cream so she ordered a scoop. The waiter could tell we really liked it and brought her 2 huge scoops. We asked him if we could buy the mac nut ice cream locally but he said they get it in big barrels from Oregon. Who would have thought mac nut ice cream from Oregon...especially since Hawaii has the highest production of them in the Us maybe even the world. Either way it was another awesome dinner as always...just another reason to keep coming back!

I agree with Nick. My son worked there too and I have been going there since it was the Chart House before that. It is good. Love the Ceasars salad. The BIG NEWS!! evening meals, they finally changed the veggies. Thank GOD!! Thank You Tony. Anyway, food is good. Miss having the lobster though. The prime rib is obscene. Biggest issue with Haleiwa Joes is the staff turn over and Chef turn over. Maybe management needs to realize they need to invest into the staff. I love when I go into a place on a regular basis and know the waiters and they know you. It adds to the experience.

good service, menu had nothing outstanding although their burgers n wings were decent. make sure the waitress lights the candle thing to chase away the flys.

Who'd have thought that Haleiwa Joes could look like this. I am used to the North Shore Joes, filled with drunks at noon and the mild smell of mildew with mediocre food at best. We were in kaneohe a few days back and my wife said, let's go to that restaurant in Haiku gardens thats so pretty. We have lived on and off on Oahu for 15 years and I have never been to the sacred spot. We asked around and were told "you mean Haleiwa Joes" and I responded "not a chance it must be something else". Well, we gave it a try and it was pretty good. I had the Opah with the black bean sauce, nice and firm and the sauce not too bad for a chain. The ambiance is the overriding factor and what makes this place special. Special occasion or happy hour spot.

This place has delicious food and at a somewhat reasonable price. The scenery is beautiful day or night, and it's pretty low key. Right next to apartments and a small parking lot I think helps keep it so small and friendly. It's nice to go out on special occasions, spend it up, but get food worth the price. I'd suggest the fillet minion or the Alaskan king crab. Whatever you get, I'm sure you will not be disappointed! MM!

Haleiwa joes is one of my favorite places to eat on the windward side!! The atmosphere is killer, the food is always amazing, and the service is top notch. My favorite dish is the escargot which is a special item that isn't always on the menu but it definatley should be, its got this amazing pesto sauce and a delicious layer of cheese on top of it all, served with warm bread to spread it on. I also love the wedge salad and the prime rib is also grinds! Ive never had bad service there, even though they dont take reservations the wait has never been too long and the servers there are great. My favorite it a girl named autunme, shes so attentive to her tables and is always upbeat and looks like she enjoys coming to her work place. That is a crucial aspect in a good server I cant count how many evenings have gone downhill simply because the server looks miserable. All in all I love Haleiwa joes is a must go! I will continue to dine there as often as I can, and try to get that server if possible shes my favorite!!

if you like prime rib this is the place it is the size of the plate and about inch and half thick...very good you need to go early because they run out we go there for special occasions ...cons: open air pros: nice view of a pond...parking is small and some times you need to park on the road and walk in...kind of hard to find as its hidden behind some town homes

OK, if this review was based solely on ambiance/scenery/location I'd give it 18 billion stars. This has to be one of the prettiest settings for a restaurant in all the islands. We dined here on our last night of vacation and fell in love with the views and open air style of the restaurant. But based on food and overall experience I really can't give it more than three stars. I was really looking forward to some great seafood for dinner and my fish was so covered in sauce that the sauce was really all you could taste. And my husbands coconut shrimp were really greasy and not very coconutty. I've actually had better coconut shrimp here in Arizona. We had also ordered quite a few cocktails and a couple appetizers in the bar while we were waiting for our table. I checked the website before going and was excited to see they offer daily "aloha hour." However, when we received our bill the drinks and apps were charged full price. I asked the server about this and was told "oh, we never really update our website but we now only offer aloha hour pricing during the week." Fine, but would have been nice to know ahead of time. C'est la vie.

Could not ask for a better dinner experience. All 5 of us had amazing dinners that we were all passing plates to & sharing with each other. Flow of appetizers & entrees was perfect. Ambience was superb. Nice, open air environment. I bet the views are even more breath taking during the day. Waiter was second to none. Fun, friendly, knowledgeable. Extremely attentive w/o being annoying. The bus boy over heard us all talking about what to do in the area as we are not staying in Waikiki and he recommended lots of fun things for us to do which I thought was really that extra step most people just don't do because they just don't care. Not in this case. This would be a 5 had the bar staff been a bit more friendly during our hour wait for a table. Both bartenders were not busy and we had to constantly flag them down for attention. None of them once smiled and the service for two rounds of drinks was painfully slow. But I will definitely be back ether during our current stay or my next trip out to the islands.

You can't beat the sunset view over the Ko'olaus, with botanical gardens below. The N.Y. Steak peppercorn style is the bomb. The Ahi with Teriyaki Buerre Blanc is also a winner. The person with the review who didn't like the coconut shrimp must have something wrong with them... Overall a great place to enjoy a night out.

BEST PLACE ON THE ISLAND FOR PRIME RIB! Seriously............ Went for a girlfriends birthday couple weeks ago, 15 of us. They handle large parties quite well. The restaurant is a little outdated, in definite need of a new interior designer and some ceiling fans. There's lots of parking. It's a little humid, so don't over dress. Wine selection is decent. The View is incredible but the only reason to pay Haleiwa Joe's a visit is for the slow roasted PRIMEFCKINGRIB. The thing to order here is the prime rib. 1/2 of our table ordered it and 1/2 of the table ordered some type of fish. My friends that ordered the fish were busy yapping away, while the rest of us carnivores sat silent, in love with our piece of meat. I was concentrating so hard on devouring this slab of flesh but I think I only ate 1/4 of it. The prime rib is so delicious, you must order it on the medium side. I ordered mine medium rare and it came out bloody. My friend ordered hers medium and it was fricken perfect. I didn't mind my bloody prime rib because I like my meat to MOO sometimes. But her prime rib was DELICIOUS. This thing is so massive, it's gotta be like 26-30 ounces and it takes up the whole damn plate. It's thick and juicy and thick and juicy. I've tried prime rib in chicago, san francisco, las vegas and L.A. and this rivals the best of them. Don't confuse this restaurant with their location in Haleiwa. Not the same AT ALL!!!!! Don't forget the paradise pie for desert-OUTRAGEOUS So, we had a fabulous time here at my friends birthday UNTIL my friends stoopid husband said," the last time I came here was about 10 years ago when I married my first wife and rented out the whole restaurant and we had this really nice wedding". What a BUZZKILL..... I guess they do weddings here too.

Not very good for groups with children. We've been and the quality of service and food varies. Generally good food. But we went with a group and went early as suggested by the staff. We were seated at 5:30 PM, in the back, and the water did not come over to us for an hour. We had 2 small kids (well behaved) and 7 adults. We did not get served dinner until 7:30 PM !!

We started dining here back in the days when it was known as The Charthouse. The biggest draw is Haiku Gardens--beautiful both day and night. Second biggest draw is the Paradise Pie. And the reason we keep on coming back is for their most delicious prime rib. Their fish entrees are hit and miss. Service is excellent. Why don't they take reservations?

The restaurant overlooks a really nice garden area with a view of the mountains and oozes with ambiance. We got there fairly early, 5:30pm to make sure we got a good seat (near the view) and there was already a wait. i had the Handcut Aged New York strip pepper style which was huge and BF got the chipotle grilled pork chop. Our server was great and despite the many people waiting he never rushed us. Overall it's a nice place to have dinner at if you're looking for a certain ambiance.

Trust the four and five star reviews and ignore the rest. The scenery is phenomenal, the ambience of the restaurant is wonderful, the wait staff is friendly and helpful (I don't know what happens when you give them attitude as I expect some of the one stars probably did). The food is very good to excellent. I have had their fish dishes many times in every preparation and they have been excellent. The shrimp are very good, and you won't have to wonder if you are going to die. The bar is ample and marzen on draft is always welcome. You would have to be in a really bad mood, likely someone who is a really bad fit for Hawaii, to not have a great time here. This is the nicest restaurant on the Windward side of Oahu. Way to go Tim!!!

Okay, i would actually rate Haleiwa Joe's with no starts if I could. We went there for our anniversary because we wanted to try something new this year. What a big mistake. First, we were sat way in the back (which is not the problem) the problem was that no one came to give us menus or water for about 15 minutes. We watched our server walk by us numerous times without any acknowledgement. We flagged down a busser and he was nice enough to find our server. This is just the beginning of our horrible experience. We finally ordered from our server. We ordered the fishmonger stew. The menu emphasized (lots of fish). When our fish soups came, all we had in our bowls were chunks of tomatoes! Nothing else. I let the server know, and all she said was, "oh, they must have ran out of fish." When our escargot got to the table, it was hard and with a cheesy crust. (disgusting) when you break the top open cheese and oil squirt in your face. This is the kicker. The escargot was cut in half. There were 6 half pieces of escargot in the dish. And the oil and cheese was cold and hard. Very disgusting. I had ordered the steam fish in ti leaves, and at that point I lost my appetite. We cancelled the rest of the food and paid for the disgusting stuff that they brought to the table. We went to Buzz's in kailua! Much much better!

I used to enjoy this restaurant. I've been there approximately a dozen times for dinner, and my husband and I have always been treated to good service, good food and drinks and a pleasant experience. We love the thai fried calamari, coconut shrimp and fresh seafood prepared a variety of ways. The cool green backdrop of the Koolau mountains, manicured lawn below and the warm flames of the tiki torches that line the open covered lanai provide a relaxing atmosphere. On saturday I joined a party of 15 celebrating a birthday and was shocked at how bad the service was. It started from the minute we were seated with our waiter (s) rushing our orders, cold food and weak drinks being served, and ended with us being 'booted out' within the allotted two hour time so they could turn the table to accomodate another reservation. In order to accomodate a large party, my friend had to sign a contract and pay a deposit! What an outrage! One late-comer was even told that she would have to take her dinner 'to go' because we didn't have enough time left on their table. Sorry, but we didn't know there was a meter running on the table. The hostess of the party dropped some serious coin that night and yet we received such bad service. DISLIKE!!

This is one of 3 Haleiwa Joe's. There's also one on the North Shore (Haleiwa), and one in California that I've not been to. Having your wedding at Haiku Gardens is wonderful, with a lush background of tropical plants and a large pond, but having your reception at the same location may leave you disappointed. If you have your reception at Haiku Gardens, you have to use Haleiwa Joe's for your caterer. The layout of the restaurant is pretty spread out, with lots of thick pillars everywhere, blocking one's view of other friends and family, not to mention the wedding party. The caesar salad was pretty good, but the person serving it didn't seem to know what she was doing - she asked if I wanted salad and subsequently served it to me, but I had to ask for the croutons and parmesean that were almost out of reach, right next to her. The mashed potato was also good. The rest of the food was just gross. Sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour spareribs, and way undercooked salmon (it jiggled like jello when my friend put his plate on the table, and I heard someone else say it was almost like salmon sashimi, but slightly warm with sauce) were the entrees offered. The dessert was brownies, haupia (which could have been creamier), and chocolate cup cakes; very boring. I think I'm particularly perturbed that the food wasn't great because I saw their pricelist at a recent wedding expo (they sure were stuck-up considering their quality of food). How dare they charge $25 per person for crap food, and so few choices of it! I mean, they have a lot of choices available for the couple to choose from when ordering/planning their reception, but you can only choose 2 without additional cost. Wow, I'm shocked by the bad reviews. I've been here a dozen times and never had bad food. A couple of things weren't that "inspired", but certainly not bad. Service is always excellent. They have one of the best value Sunday Brunches too. The only downside is the no reservations policy.

I love the ambiance at Haleiwa Joe's. It's so romantic and the garden is so beautiful. All the fish dishes i've gotten have been tasty. The desserts are yummy too. Anytime i have friends visiting from the mainland i always bring them to Haleiwa Joe's.

I've been here a few times over the years. Service has been good, and the open-air setting is definitely the big draw. About the food - another reviewer got it exactly right - "ghetto version of Roy's." The food's not horrible, but in general, it's over-seasoned and unnecessarily rich. I no longer eat from the regular menu. I go there for two reasons: they serve a good hamburger in the bar and there's live music on Friday nights. But last night ... I don't know. Last night, I ordered a burger and a salad. Salad - It was nice that they took the time to toss it before serving it. But all the ingredients had a salad bar flavor and texture - not sure what that is, but it's unmistakable. Still, it was chilled and oddly refreshing. Burger - I ordered it without cheese and medium (usually I order medium rare, but for some reason I ordered it medium). On the plate: steak fries, a little dish of ketchup, and the burger open-faced. The top bun held a slightly fatigued piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato. Bottom bun held the burger. The burger was mis-shapen, but tidily so. I think I've seen burgers like this before, lined up on a grill, each imperfect in exactly the same way. My husband ordered a pork chop off the regular menu. Very handsome plate. The pork was tender. The flavors were as I described above. I'd still go back for the live music.

What a wonderful gem to stumble upon! My girlfriend and I were looking for somewhere delicious to eat on a Friday night and our neighbors recommended Joe's. So we tried it out. We were ready for the wait, as our neighbors let us know what we were in for. The ambience was wonderful, and the service was pretty good, even though our waiter was a bit weird. We wanted prime rib, obviously because we read everyone else's reviews on here, but unfortunately they were all out. We had the calamari, which wasn't really anything special, it was good, but pretty much the same thing you'd get at any other place. For dinner I had the coconut shrimp and my lady had the teriyaki steak, both were fantastic! I absolutely recommend this place, just go early if your starving, cause you'll be there for a while.

We were told about this gem and are so happy we went. Even took along out of town guests. We went hungry and you need to be their by 4:30pm if you plan to get the Prime Rib this is all I heard but we were not there for that however it looked AMAZING, Big and juicy. Okay we ordered the Chicken which was so juicy too came with rice and veggies, Pork Chops, Shrimp, Baked Potato, Calamari, mushrooms, Paradise Pie, baby cake(?), peanut cheesecake, Ribs, steak, and drinks... yes we tried it all and did not leave unsatisfied!!! It was soooo good, Ok so yes we waited for about 20mins got there after 5:20pm but time flew since we took pictures, walked along the gardens (stunning view) and them it was FEAST time!!! It is kid friendly if they are not pick eaters, ours had shrimp, rice and a baked potato. Great View!!!! Lots of parking, Clean and Clean Restrooms

The Boyfriend's brother was in town with his girlfriend and hit up Haleiwa Joe's on a North Shore adventure and picked up a flier for an 80's night. They were really excited about getting their 80's on and convinced us to come with after seeing all the awesome stuff that was going to be there--disco light show, costume contest with prizes, tented dance area, DJ spinning 80's hits and 80's photo booth. When Friday hit and we rolled up in our 80's best, they were pretty disappointed that a lot of the advertised stuff wasn't there. No photo booth, no tented area, just a DJ spinning and an empty dance floor, which was just the regular dining room without all the tables. We did some shots and once people saw us dancing they joined in and when we left almost everyone was dancing. We ended up staying for a few hours and left before the event was over so I can't say for sure the costume contest was MIA, but it wasn't mentioned at all while we were there. Anywho, the night wasn't a total bust because if you're with the right people, drinking and dancing is never a bad time, but how can you advertise an event and then not have any of the advertised stuff there? Tsk, tsk, Haleiewa Joes. I've dined with you before and you were A-OK, but I'm docking stars for faking out your customers.

Carnivores of Hawaii, proceed to the beautiful tropic jungle of Haleiwa Joe's, at the edge of Haiku Valley. If you can get there early enough, the Prime Rib will definitely put you over the edge of fullness.... that is IF you can finish it, I must've tried it 10 times or more and haven't been able to yet! They don't take reservations so you'll need to get there early ( open at 4:30, dinner seating at 5:30) if the "BEEF" is whats for dinner. You can sit at the bar area for drinks and apps, as you wait for them to set a table. As it'll be happy hour, some drinks will be discounted at HH prices, AND ALL the appetizers are half price... yep HALF PRICE!!!! What a deal!! Our very, very friendly waitress explained ..... ' If you order pupu's from the bar during HH, it's half off... If you sat at your table in the dining area and ordered pupu's.... full price' So WHAT THE HAY, lets get the load here before our tables ready. And as the rest of our party arrived later ( and our table was waiting for us) our very nice and friendly waitress allowed them to get another load of apps (at half price) and delivered it to our table. That's great service I tell ya! Like others have mentioned, if it's Prime Rib you crave, you'll have to be early, as they WILL run out fast. But... you will be rewarded with the Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble, Brontosaurus Ribs, like the kind that'll hang on the side of your "Cave Car" , and make it tip on it's side! It'll come, to your desired cave dweller doneness, seasoned with their own secret prehistoric goodies, and SLOOOOOOOOW roasted ( with all it's delish aromas, permeating through the restaurant) in their smoke cave.... WONDERFUL! Two to two and a half inches thick, and maybe three pounds or more of bone in beef perfection, and beauty. The edges all nice and crusty with char-ed seasonings, the insides all nice and pink, oozing with all that awesome juices... WONDERFUL!!! As afore mentioned, I have been to the mountain, and in all my attempts, have never been able to reach it's apex. So after my best Fred and Barney-ish try, I always succumb to the ever friendly suggestion.... " Do you think you'll need a box?" I always meekly agree, but I know I shall slay this creature on the morrow. It's a bit pricey as the dinner, the sides, and salads are separate, but they are all very tasty and goes well with whatever your having. The staff always friendly and helpful, from the bar backs, to the bar waitresses, to the dinner servers. The decor... real laid back island style, with Koa furnishings, lauhala tapestries, Hawaiian designs, open air dining, with the unmistakable view of lush Haiku Gardens, it's fish pond, and the spectacular vistas of the Koolau mountains, and her pillowy cloud kissed peaks. WONDERFUL!!! We're here twice a year, for the same occasions, and enjoy it every time, And we still look forward to the next time.

more for the drinking type of restauranteur. not really a great place to go if you're wanting a nice ambiant dinner. pretty noisy, and the wait isn't really worth it. it's kind of musty inside, too, when there aren't any trade winds. they don't take reservations, which means we waited for nearly an hour for average service... the food was okay, could do with more seasoning on the poke and filet. would not go back.

Meh. I refuse to do jumping jacks for restaurants that won't take reservations. WTH. Came here with a rather large party of 18 people for a company dinner. Because they do not take reservations, we had to -- you guessed it -- wait. I wonder if not taking reservations is some sort of ninja-like ploy to get you to spend money on cocktails at the bar while you wait? Evil but somewhat ingenious, if that's the case. Needless to say, my heels were killing me and I was getting testy. We meandered toward the bar and everyone ordered something yummy. It was a Monday night and the place was packed and steamy. Where was the breeze up in this joint?! The waitresses picking up orders from the bar were bitchy because it was crowded -- geez. What do you expect? I think they should attempt to do a better job at masking their disdain, irritation and eye rolls. So sorry, waitress lady -- we're the customers and we're the reason you have a job. Ugh. Just so over bad service, you know? So onto the food. After we were finally seated and got our menus -- we're talking at least 45 minutes later, folks -- everything looked yummy. We *were* starving, after all. Hubby and I really wanted the prime rib, but that was goners so we resorted to pork chops and Chinese-style steamed fish. Again... meh. I enjoyed the company and the effects of the li hing mui margarita more than the food. The galic mash that came with the pork chop was better than the actual pork chop. The fish monger's soup was totally average, maybe even a little less than. Dessert was a bright spot -- the paradise pie and sorbet were both pleasers. Maybe my experience would have been more enjoyable if it were for a romantic dinner for two or something like that. But like I said... meh.

Ordered their prime rib cause I heard it's good. I told our server I wanted it quick cause I was hungry. I waited 1hr. I canceled my order cause it took too long! I talk to the manager and he was a prick. He said their was a miscommunication with the staff about us wanting it later and said I didn't charge you for it so.... Really?!? Not coming here again and spending my $$$! So people, make sure you tell your server when you want it and double check.

Hands down the best restaurant in Kaneohe! I love Sunday brunch... don't hesitate to have the omelet guy make you a prime rib omelet.. delish! The huge Mai Tai always brightens my spirits no matter how bad of a day I had. And the view is gorgeous overlooking the koi fish pond.

Okay Haleiwa Joe's, it's time that I give you a review after all the times I've been here. It is a versatile restaurant, one of the few places I could describe as casual yet upscale, and great for all sorts of dining adventure--happy hour, dinner, Sunday brunch and late night pupus and drinks. They have a bar section with open seating which is packed daily starting around five. The dining room itself is spacious and has a fantastic view of the Ko'olau Mountains making it a great place to bring an out of town guest. One downside is they don't take reservations and everything is on a first come, first serve basis. That is annoying for those that like to plan ahead but it don't seem to be hurting business as they are busy most nights of the week. They have a great assortment of appetizers. My absolute favorite here is the fried calamari which is in my opinion one of the best on the Island. There are just enough flavors in the batter and it is served with a Thai inspired chili sauce. A lot of places simply have too much batter that distracts from the flavor of the calamari but theirs is just right. Other notable appetizers are the sizzling mushrooms, peel and eat shrimp, Ahi spring rolls, and poke. Although the entrees here are good, most times I would rather just eat an assortment of appetizers and have some drinks. Haleiwa Joe's is the best place in Kaneohe to have happy hour (I admit that isn't saying much since the only other comparable bar is Ruby Tuesdays...). They have a full bar, lots of special mixed drinks, and a good variety of beers on tap. Their entrees are also tasty. Like all the other reviews mentioned, they have an amazing prime rib entrée. Unfortunately unless you plan to be as early as a senior citizen there is a high chance they will run out. One time I went with my co-workers and we got there at about 5:20 and were fortunate to order the last two plates. Too bad there were eight of us fighting over two chunks of meat, but it was still very tasty. If you plan to go any other time it's best to have a back up entrée. My favorite from the regular menu is the salmon with garlic mash and veggies. It is always cooked well and they have great garlic mash. They also always have chef specials all of which are very good. To finish off the meal I'd recommend dessert. They have this chocolate/cream cheese cake served with a raspberry sauce which is delicious. It is a larger portion so I'd recommend sharing it with someone. Service here is also very good. Overall the staff is very friendly and accommodating. I've only had one experience with a questionable waiter, but 95% of the time it has been good. They constantly check on you and refill water and drinks. They also know their menu very well, so if you have any questions about what to order, just ask! The ambience here is very relaxed. I never feel rushed, and if you aren't quite ready to go home yet after dinner you can just move into the bar area. One more good thing is that they have a good Sunday brunch including a prime rib and omelet station along with a buffet line of fruits, veggies, starches, and every breakfast meat you can imagine. My fave is the eggs benedict yum! Just a note, they are not open for lunch other than Sunday.

  • Nick Y.

Despite the fact that I still have work nightmares three years after ending my five year employment here, I can still objectively say that Sunday brunch at Haleiwa Joe's is the $h!znit. It's an all you can eat buffet with salads and other such offerings, but the Omelet station, Belgian Waffles, and Prime Rib are definitely the main attractions. It was a bitch clocking in at 4:00am to slowly cook the Prime Rib for six hours, but now that it's not me..."I'll take another slice, please." ...and another. :-)

Decided to try out haleiwa joe's with the family after a long day at Pearl Harbor. We were very impressed! I highly recommend our waitress Sylvana (excuse the spelling). She did an awesome job explaining the menu and was just overall very attentive. Drinks were great (long island, Mai Thai, liquid sunshine, red lava, mango margarita). These were spread out among six people, not just me lol. Most of us had the prime rib, which has to be one of the largest and best steaks I've ever had (25 ounces!). Others had the baked fish, which was amazing also. The desserts were also really good, especially the burnt caramel fruit plate with macadamia nut ice cream. I almost forgot to mention that the location is beautiful as well. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience and will likely return in the future. Thanks!

They don't take reservations, and will NOT seat you until your entire party is there. Can I just say that if this is the type of greeting I'm going to get as soon as I come to spend an average of $20.00 per plate then I will not be returning, I mean seriously it's not like the food was the BEST. My pork chops were DRY. I had 2 people over the age of 80, it was windy, and cold 8 out of the 11 guests were there and they still wouldn't seat us, if it seems like I'm harping over this it's because I am, that is not the way to treat a paying customer EVER! Hey Haleiwa Joe's Manager: If you read this and want to reply, feel free. If this is a 'standard practice/policy' that you have going I highly suggest you rethink your position, it's bad for business.

Prime rib and king crab legs were delicious! The view was amazing as well. Great place for a date night.

Besides the huge prime rib and the fish specials the atmosphere and the service is why I have been going here for ten years! They have wine dinners which are sold out quickly. They are a great time!

This is a hidden oasis...an amazing restaurant overlooking the most beautiful and lush green garden. We got there early (at 4:30) and were seated promptly at 5:00 pm, and had the best table with a beautiful view. We started with drinks - Lilikoi Mojitos and the Ahi Poke platter. First, the drinks were good, served in pint-sized glasses. The Paradise Poke Platter was amazing - there were four pokes: onion/sesame oil, wasabi garlic/ginger, chili/cilantro and coconut sauce. The second course was a house salad with sesame-miso dressing. The dressing had a nice flavor and lightly drizzled over the greens. As a main course, I ordered the fresh baked fish of the day -- ono -- and it was undercooked (of course I sent it back). Second time is a charm, because the fish was amazing...it melted in my mouth. The seaweed crust was crispy and tasty. The ono came with white rice and veggies. I suggest you don't waste your stomach room for the sides. We ended the evening sharing the caramel crusted, macadamia nut ice cream surrounded by fresh blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and pineapple chunks. This dessert was to die-for!!!

this place gets frequented more by tourists, than by locals. decided to come here when we wanted somethin' a little more special than home style cookin', plus the restaurant can accommodate a large group. the food's pretty good, though not amazing. the view however, is where it's at, just gorgeous. so if you can, get a table surrounding the perimeter of the restaurant.

I love this place. The ambiance, the view, the service, and the food. This is hands down the best restaurant in Kaneohe.

We tried their Sunday brunch. It was wonderful. We tried just about everything and loved every bite. The scenery surrounded by tall mountains is amazing. Check em out!

The very best meal I had while in Hawaii. I've been around and this place is the very best. The staff and service was outstanding. The view and atmosphere was incredible, the food was incredible, especially the Sunday Brunch. This place is way better than the North Shore location no comparison whatsoever. If you end up on the Kaneohe side of the Island then make sure you eat here. My favorite restaurant on Oahu!

Born and raised on the Windward side of Oahu and I have NEVER been to Haleiwa Joes. Now that I'm nearly 30 years old, I figured I should probably try this place. I googled "Happy Hour Kaneohe" and voila! Haleiwa Joes pops up. Set in a lush setting of trees, flowers, and mosquitoes--this place is rather breath-taking... (don't worry you adamant "Kenny Readers" my alcohol is coming...) This restaurant LOOKS as if you are sitting in a HUGE tree-house overlooking haiku gardens. We arrive promptly at 4:30PM, grab a seat at the bar and are greeted with a friendly smile and a mighty yummy eye-candy bartender, John. He asks if I we want anything to drink and our response to almost every bartender in a restaurant is "What do you recommend with Gin (or vodka, depending on my mood)" and then he smiles and says coming right up. He concocts this amazing gin martini with Chambroid sunken at the bottom of the glass...tasty! "Can I have another..." 10 minutes later... "Another, pleeeassseeee" 5 minutes later..."Another! Whoooo! These are yummy!" 2 minutes later..."Lets do SHOTS!" John, the Bartender laughs at us and continues to concoct other drinks. He even bought a round on the house--can I YELP john? I'll give him 5 stars! By this time we're pretty "warm-and-fuzzy" and start to order half the Happy Hour food menu. On a serious note: if you love seared ahi, order Haleiwa Joes Black and Blue Ahi it is ABSOLUTELY divine! The fish was so fresh and seared to perfection that it melted in your mouth! Not to mention they make this wasabi/ranch sauce that compliments the fish perfectly! All-in-all this is a pretty amazing place and if you haven't gone here yet--WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!???? Bottoms up!

None of the 6 of us were particularly thrilled with our meals at Haleiwa Joe's tonight. Everyone described theirs in shades of "okay" or "adequate". The atmosphere was very comfortable and inviting. The view was quite nice until darkness set in. We sat of a long time after our meal and visited without feeling rushed; and while doing so, our water and coffee were regularly refreshed. The desert we ordered was spectacular! They call it 'Paradise Pie': Picture a pint sized slab of Kona coffee ice cream on a thick Oreo cookie crust topped with whipped cream and served with a small pitcher of hot fudge! Oh, and rest assured, it is as good as or better than it sounds! I'd go back just for the atmosphere and 'Paradise Pie'! I might do so after having dinner somewhere else first.

OUTSIDE DOUBLE UP!!! GET IT! A drink that's not messing around! We had friends in town from San Diego and we spent the day on the windward side, and decided that by 4p, it was time for a cocktail. Read about this place because of its amazing setting--which is AMAZING! Really felt like I was in a tree house! Got some great photo shots of the pond area and the mountains--too bad a little bit of the highway shows through the trees! But back to the drinks! The mai tais are yummy--and you get to keep the glass! A fun souvenir and drinking cup for future cocktails! We were hungry so had a couple of pupus--salmon cakes (amazing mango chutney) and sizzling mushrooms (garlicky and buttery!). Never had dinner here or at the North Shore's location, but would want to try their Sunday brunch (prime rib during that time too)--would be perfect hang over cure after drinking their drinks! Happy hour is only Mon-Fri, so we didn't get a deal on drinks, but the drink specials would be a really great deal! :)

The food was really good. I had the Teriyaki Sirloin and it was awesome. It was a little too well done, but the taste made up for it. Also the garden and everything around it is beautiful. I would totally recommend this place.

We've tried this place twice and each time we were really disappointed. Long wait times, small menu, average food, AWFUL service! This last time our waiter forgot to place our food order and never even apologized. He said "oh yea, that sucks" and walked away. Only positive is the view... Which isn't good enough to make up for such a poor dining experience.

Service is horrible! Ordered drinks half hour ago! Been waiting for someone to take our order for another half hour. Very poorly ran. Prime rib is ok bit it's allways sold out. And they don't take reservations.

We loved this place.. Something for everyone! We came for brunch and loved it. It was a few minutes wait, warm inside the building, no AC but we were fine. They have fans blowing from above, but dress light to visit. The food was a brilliant mix of things.. Loved the cold boiled shrimp, the huge pot of cheesy scrambled eggs, the smokey tender kaluha pork, the yummy bread pudding with carmel sauce and i added whipped cream from the waffles area! 25 bucks a head, drinks extra, a good deal.. Lots of items, including an omelette station. nice views, good atmosphere, good service, a new favorite place for me to visit with in Oahu.
