I like most bars. They ARE bars, after all. However, Moe's and Joe's is not a real bar. I can understand restaurants for not getting a full liquor license...beer and wine is the only necessity. But this hole is all about the alcohol. People cram into the 25 foot by 7 foot room in order to get their precious happy juice. Unfortunately, there's no full liquor license...no cranberry and vodka to be had. Moe's and Joe's tries to make up for this with ridiculously cheap pitchers of crap beers. We're talkin' PBR. Mmm! Or not. This is a place made famous by students in the area. Last weekend it was suggested to me for late-night festivities and I felt myself visibly cringe. I'm done with the narrow drink choices, but even more done with the goofy people who frequent this joint. Especially on Tuesdays.

Super cheap, large portions and great bar food!

As many times I have been in the Highlands, this is the first time I've experienced the beauty of the $2.50 Mo Jo Burger. Yes, the Mo Jo is not a huge burger (I'd equate it to the size of a jr. burger from Wendy's) - but that's exactly why I loved it. As a huge fan of kids meals where ever they'll let those of us that are over 12 order them, (Chik-fil-A being the main one that comes to mind), I appreciate the 'slightly smaller' sized meals out there. Did I mention you also get a side with that mini burger? And, of course there's also the beer.

Order Another Round of Pitchers of PBR!!! Tuesday nights are packed here with all the alcoholic youngsters at Moe's and Joe's in the Highlands. If you catch your co-worker slouched over their keyboard or nodding off during the meeting Wednesday morning, chances are they had one too many $3 dollar PITCHERS (not pints) of nasty, bland PBR. After trying to parallel park twice on a side street, it was easy to follow the crowd of people heading to this well packed, noisy bar with people overflowing outside the door. The bouncer is strict, so remember to retrieve your ID from your jeans pocket from the night before girls - if you drink on a Tuesday, chances are you drink on a Monday, so don't pretend that you don't! People apparently write all over the corked, bulletin board walls in the spaces not taken up by the many beer signs and posters. So in addition to your ID, bring a sharpie (you can be that super trendy person from those Sharpie commercials who carries the little, colored sharpies wherever she goes and changes the world) and add your favorite quotes to the already picture covered walls. Throughout the night, I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to all the different people who attend this weekly gathering. There were the cutely dressed sorority girls from UGA standing in line for the one stall bathroom (you have a better chance going in the bushes around the street corner). I met a girl who just moved to Atlanta from France who was shocked that every American woman owns and wears a strapless bra. I sat next to this guy whose nickname is "Stoney" even those he doesn't smoke. And worst (or best of all depending on if you like this little fact), there was a guy with a popped collar! Yes! I informed him that the popped collar came and left Atlanta about 3 years ago and asked him why he insisted on popping. He replied that he was from Jersey, and that they've been popping the collar since the 60s. He then proceeded to tell me that he was a junior at Emory and a brother in a Jewish fraternity there (typical). So that gives you an idea of the crowd. After my two mini plastic solo cups of PBR, I left the sardine filled bar happy to get away from the smoke.

As dirty as this place may look inside, I love this place. I usually come here on Tuesdays and it is always packed. You can't beat a $3.25 pitcher of beer. I usually get some popcorn and a buffalo chicken quesadilla. Both are delicious!

Four stars. Just because an authentic dive joint with cold PBR in yuppieville VH deserves it.

I have been traveling all over the country looking for a place that specialized in Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and decor, and I finally found it! Four 20 oz. cans of beer for $9 will keep me coming back!! Make sure you bring your own sharpies so you can draw on the walls. The downfall is that you have to haul out an iron lung because it is very smokey.

Mmmmm.... PBR. This is the dive bars of all dive bars, and I love it. It's a great mix of people and I adore letting my hair down and just hanging out here. Avoid college night on Tuesdays- it's too young of a crowd. Otherwise, it's good times. I saw Lance Armstrong here once! The only reason it loses a star is the lack of liquor., but honestly this place just screams cold, cheap beer.

This place is both affordable, cute and kitschy, divey, and worth the parking hassle. The prices are amazing (Tuesday pitchers for 3.50$!) and the food is excellent. Taste is awesome, can't beat the prices. We got the mojo burgers (with fries and sweet potato tots) for 3$ a piece (4.50$ for sweet potato tots)! Absolutely amazing. When we first got in, they confused our drink order, but our server corrected it very quickly and without any complaints or hesitation (thankfully). Our server was also extremely patient since we had no idea what to order and took our time. Our neighbors got the wings and they were gone almost instantly - besides smelling fantastic, I am sure that means they were delicious too. This is a great spot to hang out and people watch - they won't rush you out the door or give you any problems with staying as long as you like!

The guy that came wait up to our booth after we sat ourselves at 12:15am Saturday night.. Well after sitting there 10 minutes.. He walks over slaps down this small menu..says what would u like to drink....we both said water because we don't really drink alcohol.... Then he said "oh y'all want to eat..." We said yes and he said very very nasty "the kitchen is closed". The way he said it was extremely rude if I had not already was mellow out I would have asked for the manager.... But I will call to this place tomorrow Sunday to speak with the management to air my grievances..

For what it is, a simple bar with cheap food and beer, this place is fantastic. It's my favorite spot for Atlanta Hawks games, and the trivia is really fun. Their beer selection is satisfying, and they have a lot of fun bar snacks.

We came to try the famous MoJos $3.00 burger which was awesome! The inside has the feel and look of a dive bar that's a great place for drinks with friends. They also have a great little outdoor seating area. Moe and Joes is a fun little restaurant/bar with great food. They offer a good mix of different foods from loaded fries, burgers, sandwiches, tacos, but we came for the MoJo burger! The burger is a basic burger but, cooked and seasoned perfectly plus can't beat the price tag of $3.00. You have the option of adding different cheeses and other toppings. I ordered cheddar Chelsea with a side of onion rings instead of fries. My husband ordered the double with fries and was very pleased! I liked how laid back and casual Moe and Joe's was at lunch. The staff were very friendly and nice, service fast!

This is my favorite Sunday Funday spot. Not only are there $5 pitchers of PBR, but there is also great food and service brought to you by JC and Jeff. I will continue to visit Moes and Joes every Funday with these to offering continuous laughs.

First time coming to this place. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but the inside has a homey feel. The food was delicious and the price was a steal (btw, order the mojo fries, they will change your life). I got the wings and they were fantastic. The service here was top notch. Our server's name was JC, and she made us laugh the whole time. Even when she was busy, the other server working at the time stepped in and made sure we were taken care of (I think his name is Jeff, but could be wrong). All in all, this place is awesome and will definitely be coming back

We generally go to M&J in the early afternoon on weekends. The burgers are very good. What is with the staff? Last Sunday was typical. We get there about 1. There are two tables inside and nobody else outside. The bearded guy walks by us, but no service. Then he brings menus and we don't see him for another 20 minutes. When the check came, I had to go to the bar to pay. It took us two hours to have two burgers and two pints! If this guy fell out of a boat, it would take him an hour to hit water. I know it's tempting to sit outside in nice weather. Do yourself a favor; sit at the bar. At least then you can flag down a bartender.

    (3)
  • Caleb H.

This place is great! I work in the area so I just stopped in. The bartender is cool as hell and knows everyone. Also this pitcher of beer was $5.00.... Yes you heard $5.00!!!!!! Come here. Drink beer. Be happy!!.... And no I don't work here nor am I best friends with the bartender. I just love a good local bar!

  • Keo S.

I don't know if it was the writing on the wall (graffiti) or just the super casual "feel" to this place that made us have such a great time. Or it could be the great service and awesome bar food as well. :) My friends and I were looking for something low key and totally casual and this hit the mark. It's always packed in here so I'm glad that we finally tried it. We started with the MoJo Fries - yes yes and more yes to melted cheese, bacon, scallions, and jalapenos on it - Delicious!! We got the super hot wings and they didn't disappoint. It doesn't hit you right away, but be prepared for the next day - lol. Loved the homemade blue cheese dressing as well. As if our mouths weren't burning already, we wanted to continue the torture with the Firecracker burgers (love that there were 3 and plenty more white cheddar cheese and chipotle aioli). I'll definitely be back (especially for a hangover meal). PS - plenty of beers on tap, but best chill beer of all is PBR on tap ($7.50 for a pitcher)!!

Practically perfect people-watching patio. Purchase some premium pretzel poppers or popcorn and pass the pitcher of Pabst®, it's party time! Tuesday: $3.50 pitchers of Pabst Blue Ribbon® Wednesday: Trivia and $2 PBR Tallboys (16oz) Thursday: $5 pitchers of Pacifico® / DoubleDip wings* Sunday: DoubleDip wings* ---------------------- * DoubleDip wings are fried, tossed in RedHot® wing sauce and fried again! My partner and I moved from New Orleans in October. We were searching for a great dive bar with good eats and cheap drinks. We found most of this from Moe's and Joe's. Walking in to the bar, directly to your right is a bar with PBR on tap and $1 popcorn. Classic red leather booths adorn the restaurant with walls decorated with sharpie love notes. The menu details the history of the bar and showcases $7 PBR pitchers. Call drinks were on the higher end; if you're a liquor drinker expect demand prices. Overall- Fun spot in Virginia Highlands. We'll be back.

Came here on a Sunday. They have horrible customer service and there was no manager in the restaurant. We ordered drinks and our water came out with the drinking cups placed in it...which I think is disgusting. Some people in our party ordered drinks that they didn't have and instead of yelling us they just didn't bring the drinks. The food was tasty until I found a hair in my wings. They didn't apologize or over any thing else. The waitress literally said ok and left. She then came back with the bill and charged me for 10 wings instead of the 20 we ordered. She slammed the bill on the table and walked away

I really enjoyed this place. The food was fantastic. The Buffalo chicken quesadilla was amazing! Blackened chicken with good buffalo sauce. We also had the brisket philly which was basically a cheesesteak with brisket meat and also had brisket tacos. Very affordable place as well. A group of 7 with 2 appetizers and 4 alcoholic beverages and we wrapped up just under $100 before tip.

Great food, great atmosphere and cheap beer. You get what you pay for and its always a safe bet for a quick meal. The outdoor patio has great street side seating as well.

This place is an institution in the Virginia Highlands as it's been around since the 40s. They recently expanded the location by taken over the Cavern space which has made the restaurant much more open and roomy. They speak very highly of their chicken wings and their wings are very good. But be careful with the spice level as they are hotter then your average wings.

Just got off a flight from Boston and came in here to grab some food around 1030pm. Definitely a no thrills grab your own table and wait kind of place. We got a pitcher of beer fish tacos fried chicken tacos and a buffalo quesadilla. I thought all of the food was tasty, server was great and bill was cheap. Will definitely return next time I'm in ATL!

My friend and I stopped here after taking our dogs to Piedmont Park. Love the dog friendly services, they brought out a water dish for them! We shared the hummus appetizer (it is enough to feed 4 people) and I had a buffalo quesadilla. Very friendly staff and atmosphere!

True definition of a "dive bar". We stopped by for a late night drink. The hawks were in the midst of there win streak so everyone was crowded around television with drinks. The drinks were strong, company good and the servers quick on there feet. The patio looks to be a nice spot on a spring summer day. This is a spot that I wouldn't mind visiting a few more times. Not sure if your yuppie or uptight friends will enjoy it.

  • K L.

I love this place. Now that they've expanded there's tons of seating, plenty of places to watch sports. Clientele can be douchey on "popular" nights, but that can be said for any bar in VAHI. Food is good, cheap, farily standard bar fare with a few items you don't expect. Service is consistent and friendly. Can't ask for much more in a neighborhood bar.

    (5)
  • Smith R.

Walked in and no one to seat us. Sat down at a table still no one said anything. We had to flag down an employee to get service. People after us sat down and was immediately waited on. Food is ok but nothing to rush back for. Others there seems to be having a good time..plenty of service....must have been locals.

I came here for Trivia (yes, capitalized Trivia) every Wednesday night (starting at 8). It is hard to appropriately capture the curious and pleasant mix of PBR pitchers, delicious wings, burgers and questions without experiencing it first hand. But I'll give it a shot. You got some older alcoholics. You got some younger alcoholics. Then you got your college alcoholics. I'm afraid that I fall in the later category. Don't get me wrong though, there's a lot more to be had than just beer, wine and (with the new expansion) the hard. It's just when it comes to Wednesday nights people are there to have a good time. That's why we kept showing up. The questions were always great. The service was always nice and prompt. Basically, they killed it every night we went. Sometimes we would get there late, and they would make sure we got a table. It was really nice to know that even though we were just a bunch of mangy kids the staff had our backs. Sometimes we got food. Always got beer. In any event the charming comments on the walls (So and so is a tranny, Bob likes cock ect) was like a piece of modern-art. Every viewing elicited another discovery, another laugh. Max Berger, Marxist art historian, once wrote that art is anything that raises my consciousness. I don't know what he meant by that but everytime I look at Moe's and Joe's graffiti covered walls I feel like, somehow, I almost know what he meant. Many bars in Atlanta, too many if you ask me, are high strung. Wednesday nights I'm not looking to get hammered, or be deaf the next morning. Moe's and Joe's on Wednesday is definitely more laid back. No one is in a rush to get at the bar. Or in a rush to puke all over the toilet. It's just normal fucking people looking to hang out, drink and laugh. I don't know why it's a rare thing, but there you have it. So if you want to raise the level of your consciousness, get a good buzz, answer (or not) challenging trivia questions and generally have a fun time make sure you drop by.

Tale of two bars. 5 star when smoking was allowed. 2.5 star bar now that they took over the neighboring bar, knocked down a wall and got rid of smoking. Very disappointing to see a historic dive bar with families and kids running around now.

Smoke Free!!! Great location and super nice patio. They have undergone some great updates and the food is always impressive. The bathrooms are "classic" - however you can use the next door - bar area's bathroom if you are not ready for an adventure.

This place reminds me of so many Yankee bars I frequent back home that I couldn't help but love it. The staff was awesomely friendly and the food all looked really good though I didn't get a chance to try it. We stopped here after Taco Mac which was a huge improvement venue wise. It was divey but an excellent spot. Sitting at the bar and knocking a few beers back was a solid night's work and a complete blast. We played some Golden Tee in the back room and listened to some good tunes on their juke which was also excellent. The beers on tap were quality and the ambiance is super chill. The only surprise was that they don't have a liquor license so just beer here folks.

Looks like somewhere that I could have a very good time. Happily surprised by the edamame appetizer. Was yummy and just enough. Lots of fun and lots of neon... how can you go wrong?

    (4)
  • Michael K.

Didn't like that people can smoke indoors since I'm from California :/ but the $5 pitchers of pbr are admittedly awesome! The music comes from a jukebox so the atmosphere is set by whoever pays for it which can be good or bad. Also, they don't know how to pour Guiness the right way.

  • Mike W.

Great neighborhood bar. PBR me ASAP! Fun place to meet up with some friends and get warmed up for the highlands!

    (4)
  • Jeff B.

This is a great 'neighborhood' bar with a nice divey vibe to it. TONS of PBR advertising, looks like the place has been in business for centuries. Tons of character and cheep PBR on tap (or tall-boys for those who want to get fancy). The food was excellent as well. The MoJo Burger was great (it's tiny, I had 2 because they were so good). Fries crisp and flavorful. Yum. I'll be back.

I wrote a review after the first time I came here (its listed below), but I went back recently and had a much better experience. When the service is decent, its actually a really great find--cheap food and beer, nice patio, good mix of people. Hopefully the first time was just a fluke, because I plan on going back again. -- I was disappointed by this place. I had been looking forward to it because its a dive bar in a great location, but it ended up being a really bad experience. I didn't expect great service, but it was abysmal. When we were seated, no one served us or gave us a menu for about 15 minutes. At that time, someone came over and asked what we wanted--since we didn't have a menu, she brought one back for us to look over. Then, no one came back to take our drink or food order for another 15 minutes. It took an hour for the food to come out (which was just a quesadilla and some tater tots), and we couldn't even get a beer refill through that whole time. Most of the staff was very rude, but one waitress was nice and apologetic about the time--but then still took 20 minutes to refill our beers. It took 2 hours to have 2 beers and an appetizer. The food wasn't amazing, but I didn't have high expectations, so that part was fine--just typical bar food. I'm fine with mediocre service at a cheap restaurant, but it sucks when you can't get a beer or a water to save your life. Maybe its better to sit at the bar?

    (3)
  • Joe K.

If you don't drink PBR, this review is useless. I've been to Moes and Joes many times and have only ever ordered pitchers of PBR. Less than $4 pitchers of PBR on Tuesday (and it gets packed with people all night), and they're still really cheap any other day. They have a full bar and other taps, but I don't even know if they work, or if their just for decoration, because I only ever order the PBR. I have yet to eat here. It's just not a place that after you walk in and look around, you say to yourself "This looks like the type of place I want to get food at". (If you go here, you'll understand what I mean). However, it is the type of place that makes you say "Yeah, I want to get drunk here". And that's all you can really ask of bar.

Moes and Joes, or as I like to call it: Bros and Bros, deserves a review update. I have found myself wallowing in my own misery here, and eating a lot, and I mean A LOT of boiled peanuts. I like it when it is less crowded, just you and the juke. A time to reflect, if you will. It feels like sadness, masked by hope, inside a peanut shell, washed down with Moe's Beer. A simple nod in approval, my friends.

  • Jon S.

Best wings around. Cheap beer, friendly staff - and a good Cuban sandwich, too boot!

    (5)
  • Jon W.

Well, I decided to go up on a Tuesday night because of the great deals on PBR... but, ugh! It was so crowded and full of college kids and sports fanatics. I like my bars to be a bit more laid back and more divey. Moes and Joes is still alright on certain nights but it is kind of a "dive-bar light". It is trying really hard to hold on to the dive bar history it may once have had... but lets face it, there are many other bars that do this a lot better in Atlanta. The food is decent and they recently changed their menu a few months ago. So the quality and selection there went up a bit.

    (3)
  • Charlene W.

I feel like everyone goes here for the PBR. Heck, all the walls, the windows, and the signs outside are plastered with PBR advertisements. I'm not PBR drinker (or much of a drinker in general), but I still think Moe's and Joe's is solid. They serve up some FANTASTIC wings here and this place is always bumping on a Friday night. I love the dive-y atmosphere of the place, but I could probably do without the cigarette smoke coming from every angle. One time I got a grilled cheese, and that was definitely a miss. But I'm sure I'll be back here sometime soon for some more wings.

  • Jada G.

The fries are great, the potty sucks. this is a cool spot, does it qualify as a dive? i believe it does. I finally got the chance to taste" Atlanta's best hot wings." Don't believe the hype. they are good, but in an OK way. not addicting at all. the best hot wings are those that can be found in a mobile shack off the side of the road in someone's parking lot. I love that this place has so much history. all of these new, fresh, hip boutiques have opened along the same street and even next door to M&J, but it stills remains the same ole, stinky, dingy place where regulars to come to sit down, drink beer and watch the game. i had the fried chicken tacos, actually really good. i wish they didn't put the lettuce to the side. all my taco had in it was, well...chicken. it came with a side of salsa, jalapeno aioli, sour cream and lettuce. my toddler ( yes, i'm one of those ppl who takes my child with me everywhere i go) had a 1/4 lb hot dog. it was good and huge, but really greasy. the french fries were amazing...i loved the seasoning on them, not just regular Lawry's, it had a certain Je ne sais quoi. the food is cheap, as is most of the beer. good ppl, good times. after 7 or 8pm, the joint b/c 21 and up.

Good for wings and cheap beer, but not much more than that. It always reminds me of the basement of practically every fraternity house I've been to. Kind of smells like it too, now that I think about it. But anyway, it's a good spot to refuel on food or slow down the night with some cheap beer. Not the first (or the last) place I'd hit during a night out in the Highlands....but a good pit stop along the way.

  • Oliver C.

Great wings. Cheap beer. 'Nuff said. This is a true dive bar with no aspirations of pretentiousness whatsoever. They added several large plasma tv's recently that make it a great place to catch an afternoon Braves game or some football. The service is steady and the food is surprisingly good given the decor. It gets crowded on Tuesday and Thursday nights when the beer specials are on. Overall a great neighborhood dive.

    (5)
  • B M.

I've been coming here for years off and on. The quality has always been constant. Can't beat cheap PBR night or trivia. The wings are fantastic though I usually go for a quesadilla or the Mo Joe burger. It can get crowded at times, but never had an issue finding a place to sit. Even though I have left the area, I do make it a point to come to this place.

  • Margo R.

Tuesday night = Moe's and Joe's This is the kind of place I go to because all of my friends are going, not because there is anything special about it. Tuesday nights are certainly crowded with Emory students and other locals to the point where it's a challenge to get a table and people are bumping and falling into each other. Other nights of the week the crowd is a bit older with an abundance of men. It's in a great location and the beer is inexpensive, so I guess that's a reason to go.

    (2)
  • Shane E.

This place is definitely a dive. I only gave it three stars because despite the fact that you can get cheap food, you get a "cheap food" amount of food. Also it's supremely difficult to find a place to park (for free). I had to park three blocks away. The beer deals (you can see in other reviews like Seth B.'s) are super cool though and this place is a great start for any pub crawl.

    (3)
  • Sarah M.

I'm new to town and I love the burgers here, but could do without all the smoke! Also, 5 stars for the crazy graffitti.

    (4)
  • Kerri B.

Ah! I love Moe's and Joe's-maybe for the cheap beer or maybe for the jukebox or maybe just for the staff. My boyfriend and I go almost once a week to order pitchers of beer and get "snuckered." It might be a total dive bar, but take a trip down memory lane back to the days of college once in a while. It is completely worth it!

  • Anna I.

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and this place attracted me with it's outdoor seating area. My boyfriend and I noticed this place had $3 pints and figured, how bad can it be? The beer was obviously delicious, but the flavor stopped there. In total we ordered fish tacos, a burger, and a turkey/bacon sandwich. The burger was gummy and tasteless. The fish tacos were completely bland unless of course I'm supposed to smother them in sour cream and a lousy salsa. The turkey sandwich had to be the worst of all. They basically took 2 slices of Swiss, 2 slices of turkey, 2 pieces of bacon, a SHITLOAD of lettuce, tomatoes, and onions AND THEN sandwiched it between 2 pieces of pita bread. Granted it was cut into quarters and looked like a huge meal, but it was not good at all. He had maybe half the sandwich and left the rest. I very much enjoyed the fries, but it could have very well been that they were the only tasty item on our table and I was ravenously hungry. Oh, and what is with the staff? Our server acted like a sullen teenager. She even huffed and puffed when a nearby table asked for more napkins. There was only one other server there and she was only mildly better mannered than the first. Blegh. NOT going back. I can find $3 pints elsewhere.

Great atmosphere (total dive, but with character). Plenty of points for plenty of PBR, although there's a relatively small selection of non-PBR beers on tap. I was not very impressed with their wings... too vinagery, and the texture was kinda chewy. As much as I like food and don't like wasting food, I didn't bother finishing the whole dozen. I think I'm going to stick with Taco Mac as far as wings in the Highlands. My wife had a burger which she said was quite good... I'll probably go that route next time. The joint was busy, but service was still pretty prompt (although somewhat no-frills, but I'll take prompt over friendly any day). In any case, the place overall still warrants repeat visits.

I think some company who did the marketing for PBR had a fire sale and Moe's & Joe's scooped up everything they could get their grubby hands on. The breadth & diversity of PBR merch is breathtaking. Moe's & Joe's has cheap pitchers & a good divey feel. There are suspiciously young looking clientele, but if they were responsible for putting Radiohead on the jukebox, they can stay. Besides the kids, the other downside is no liquor & a heavy smoke factor. But, hey it's got cheap beer & a jukebox. I can't really complain.

If you want liquor, go next door to the cavern. Moe's and Joe's is a fun place with a great staff. $3 pitchers of PBR on Tuesday's. $3.25 pitchers of Molson Canadian on Thursday's and $4 pitchers of Coors Light on Sunday's. I could be a few cents off on those prices, but thats close. The food is great and comes out quick. Go get drunk with a bunch of friends and eat, all for WAY less than anywhere else in town.

Good ol' Moes and Hoes. What's not to love? Cheapest beer in town, dirty floors, dirty old men, dirty sayings written on the walls. Get a pitcher of PBR, take a deep breath of the Pall Mall infused air, cross you fingers and hope for toilet paper. Sounds like a good evening to me.

this place makes my dick hard with their $3 pitchers of PBR...i feel like a flip cup champion here on tuesdays.

An old establishment in the heart of the Highlands. Those that know this place will always return - besides that "trendy" crowd that comes and goes. Sort of a hole in the wall but since this place is as old as Jimmy Carter if not older, it should be a welcome sign for those that enjoy a cold beer. You want a pitcher of O' Blue Ribbon? They can serve it to you. NOTE: I haven't been to back since 92 so this may well be overrun by frat boys by now...... if so, don't go.

This is a bar in all senses and definitions of the word. This tavern glows form the neon lights, is tinged with yellow from years of nicotine, and has jsut the right amount of dust layered on everything. the bar food here is actually above average with burgers, fries, and other treats from the deep fryer. Moe's & Joe's is famous for its Pabst Blue Ribbon or PBR, that classic Milwaukee vintage swill that reigned supreme in the 70's before Bud and Miller won over America. Tuesdays are college night and the crowd spills out into the street and is way too young for my taste.

Its an ok place for drinks with friends if you're really into beer and the whole relaxed frat boy scene. Not my fav place to go in the highlands. I guess it depends on who you go with.... ... .. ... .. .... ..

I thought this place was pretty cool, and a neat spot to grab a beer. From what I hear, it is one of the oldest bars in ATL, so that's pretty cool too. Otherwise, there really isn't much else to say, now is there?

LOVE me some Moe's & Joe's, but you have to know what you are getting into. It is a total dive, but the wings are DELISH! Order them extra crispy. YUM! In my younger days, my friends and I would routinely hit M&J on Sunday afternoon for a little hangover helper - greasy wings and just enough beer to take the edge off. What am I talking about?! I did this just a month or so ago. I guess I just don't do it as often as I use to, but every once in a while I get a craving for those wings that just has to be satisfied!

Moes & Joes is now non smoking!! We can now take our kids in for the best wings in town and Moe Joe Burgers. Very happy!

Moe's and Joe's is a good "layered" dive bar. It comes complete with the regular cast of characters you'd expect nuzzled up to the bar. There's toothless Joe, Angry Pete, and "You Don't Know Me" Taylor to name a few! The outdoor seating area is small, but the staff are professional, the bar food does it's job, and the beers are cheap! ... real cheap! Thursday's brings $4 pitchers of Molson and those things treated us like Kings of the Tundra! If you miss Canada or just need somewhere to wear your Beaver, Nutria and Marmot pelt hat... I highly suggest Thursdays! The pitchers are big... they're full... and what they're full of, is sweet Canadian nectar! (Tuesdays bring in $3.25 pitchers of PBR... but Milwaukee themed nights get too weird for me.)

Great little dive bar in Va-Hi. I always seem to make new friends when I come in here. Pros: Decent, Cheap Bar Food (wings are excellent, or try the buffalo chicken quesadilla). Cheap Beer Great People Location $1 Popcorn if you aren't really that hungry, but want a snack. Cons: LOTS of smoke Only serves beer The cons are kind of a part of the character of Moe's and Joe's though, so you kind of have to roll with it.

Have had the chance to both eat in and get takeout from Moes and Joes. The service was always friendly and they have ridiculously cheap prices. The inside can get a bit smoky but its cool that you can sit outside and they let you tie up your dog here. The wings here are really good and they are definitely my goto for takeout wings since I live close by. One thing to note is the blue cheese is amazing here, im not sure if its bottled or they make it themselves but its REAL GOOD.

Moe's & Joe's is a-ok. It's not a 5-star kinda place, but it is a Va-Hi staple and I come here quite often. They do have some of the best wings in the ATL and I can't get enough of their blue cheese. I like to believe they make it in-house, but I have never asked. The Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla is also good. Moe's & Joe's has pretty good deals during the week. Cheap PBR pitchers on Tuesday and cheap Modelo pitchers on Thursday to name a few. This is my go-to spot to watch sporting events that I don't really plan on paying too much attention to. They usually have music playing so don't assume you're gonna be listening to game commentary unless you beg the staff. This place is pretty chill during the day and on weeknights. They can get crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, but I'm usually next door at Cavern or across the street.

4 stars for the wings (best in town), cheap beer, and for being the red-headed step child of the VA Highlands. While the rest of the neighborhood emulates beauty, this place is blowing snot rockets out of its nose... I came here one sunday to watch the Braves game (vs. Astros and the game lasted 18 innings... and so did the beer and the wings) -and although the tab was cheap, I payed for it the next day in brain cells and tums. With a Texas-sized hangover, I could only blame it on the Houston Astros.

This is definitely not a place you will find me unless dragged there. Not to be rude to anyone who loves the place, but I love me liquor and this place does not serve it. I used to go here with my friend Davis every Tuesday. He used to hang out there while waiting to pick his wife up from school. So I used to go to keep him company. I am guessing, according to other reviews, that this was just the night for me NOT to go, as I have always disliked college kids, even though I was one for ahem, ten years.... Anyway, if you love cheap beer and the standard burgers and fries sort of menu, knock yourself out and have a great time here! I'll be at The Local if you need me...

WOW. I will not be coming back here again. Unless I aim to get REALLY DRUNK with beer. I got 4 dishes and every single one of them were extremely bland, under flavored and DRY. So Kevin C. and I came here on a Saturday to take advantage of the expiring Scoutmob. It was the Georgia Tech game so the place was packed. Ok, we so just stood around and watched the game with a bunch of alumni from Tech. That part was awesome, especially the last minute comeback with a *gasp* throwing touchdown from our school and the subsequent high fiving in the bar. However, after the game was over and the place cleared up a bit, we were still unable to get served despite sitting at the bar and constantly waving down the server. After a while, we eventually got noticed and proceed to order their Cuban sandwich, a grilled chicken quesadilla, and pulled pork tacos. We also shared a bowl of nachos and dip with our kind neighbors. The pulled pork tacos, quesadilla, and cuban sandwich all suffered from the same problems. Thats is, they were all super super dry. I don't know how you can have slow cooked pork become that dry, but somehow Moe's and Joe's were able to do that. The quesadilla and the tacos were also extremely bland. To the point where we were using the dip for the nachos in order to give them flavor. Very disappointing. The cuban was just a sad excuse for a cuban. Since both Kevin and I are from Florida, we were both extremely disappointed in it. It was served in a non pressed hoagie roll with the inexplicably dry pulled pork as well as some dried out ham slices. The majority of the flavor came from the mustard and pickles. All in all, even with the scoutmob, we still felt that we had wasted our stomach space and money on subpar food. I hate when my experience goes against what everyone else experienced, but the food here just straightup sucks.

Great place to grab cheap pitchers of beer when starting the night out. Love the swag on the walls, and the sharpie grafitti is a nice touch. Good drunk food on hand as well.

It wouldn't be the highlands if everyone didn't look 21 but Moes and Joes on a Tuesday night really is the spot to be. $3.25 pitchers of watered down PBR - yes please. Dancing all night next door on the banquette - priceless.

This place is GREAT for a Tuesday night because of their awesome beer specials (i think its $3 for a pitcher). I wouldn't recommend it for the weekend, which is why I give it 3 stars. On Tuesdays, it is absolutely packed so if you get there late... good luck trying to score a table. The crowd is predominately college people trying to eat some wings and cheap beer. Its a great place to hang out with friends on a weekday night and people-watch the drunken frat boys.

Moe's & Joes's is one of my favorite places to go and watch football on Saturday and Sundays after work. They have the best wings in Atlanta. It's a real laid back and chill atmosphere and no matter what you order on the menu you can't go wrong.

Guess I might've been here on an off night, but I was not too impressed (or as impressed as you can be with a dive bar). We walked in to about four large white buckets and towels all over the floor due to recent leaks in the ceiling, and I got excited at the prospect that a drunk chick would indubitably crash into one at some point during the night. After sitting down, we ordered a pitcher and were told they only serve beer and wine. As a hard liquor girl, I was disappointed, but my dude friends were so giddy to discover the prices of the pitchers that I decided to live vicariously through them. Unfortunately, after we received our pitcher, we never saw our waiter again and had to hunt him down behind the bar when we were ready to leave a couple hours later. The worst part of the night hit around midnight, when a massive crowd of underage Emory students in Forever XXI semi formal garb (if there really is such a thing) entered and began screaming some kind of unintelligible sorority chant. Although we were seated safely at a table, there were so many of them that we would have (and one of us did) landed nose-first into a sweaty armpit had we even cocked our heads a few degrees to either side. I longed for just a few of 'em to land in one of those white buckets, but my hopes went unfulfilled. Bathrooms are gross, so hold it, ladies. Also, my friend had at least a few centimeters of brownish water leak from the ceiling onto her head throughout the evening. I only laughed because it wasn't my hair getting tainted.

Best wings AND blue cheese dressing in Atlanta. The frys are pretty good too and if you don't want to bother with the wings the Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla is almost as yummy (and has cheese+blue cheese dressing!). All go perfectly with PBR of course.

  • Ross K.

What a time warp. It's a simple hole in the wall bar that has a top notch people watching patio. Their $2.25 burger and fries is classic. Add a $5 pitcher of PBR and you can't go wrong. Nothing fancy needed to make this a classic spot.

I used to go to Moes & Joes for burgers and fries when I was in high school, and still stop in from time to time, 20+ years later! I don't think ANYTHING at M&J's is "fresh" or "homemade", but that's not the point. A Mo Jo burger, fries and a bottled Coke will get you your grease fix just nicely.

  • Kristine M.

I'm a snob, but it's a dive 'bar' that does not have a full bar. I asked if they had anything besides beer, and was told "Water, Coke, Sprite..." Not even cheap wine that makes Two-Buck Chuck look good? I went with ice water. The bartender smoked while opening bottles of beer. Ick. I will not be back until I hit rock bottom and have learned to settle for drinking beer, which has not happened yet. Also, someone is also trying to collect child support by writing graffiti outside the ladies room door. I am curious about how effective this is.

  • Juan M.

Reliably greasy, loud, and attitudey - I like it. Within walking distance, it's a reliable place to see a football game on the tube and, of course, drink PBR. We split wings and fries with chili and cheese. Pretty filling and not obscenely expensive. Cigarette smoking sucks and,(sitting outside) we got several lungfuls; thanks!

  • Kevin G.

Want to grab cheap beers and chill? This is a great place. Nothing fancy about this place. Bare walls with scribble all over. It is like that great college bar you went to because they would let you in, not because there much else driving you there. They have food and that is good when you drink. I think this place thrives on the fact that it doesn't have all the other things that might annoy you about the rest of the highlands. So less is more! Great staff, cheap PBR, and eats. Good place to hang if you bring good friends.

    (3)
  • Erin O.

The best wings in Atlanta? Probably. A Dive Bar? Absolutely. Decent Jukebox? You betcha. Smutty phrases & drawings that cover every inch of the walls & provide hours of entertainment? Hell yeah! Old men with skinny ponytails smoking cigarettes at the bar? Always! Other things of note: The french fries are almost as good as the wings. The Highlands Roast Beef is a really good sandwich. The chili is great. The black bean burger is tasty. If you love PBR & living the High Life, this is the bar for you.

Went here after hearing all the good news about their hot wings - I will valiantly continue my search for the best in town, but these are easily the best I've had in ATL to date. I like a dive; this was a good one.

  • Amanda G.

I don't normally give 5 stars, but how could I give less for a place that offers a $6.50 pitcher of beer (ok ok it's PBR) and fries covered with cheese, american cheese at that. I love the old diner style booths and locals fill the space mixed with your typical vahi yuppies and late night drinkers. With a name like moes and joes, there's no pretense, just good ole cheap PBR.

  • Angela M.

Not packed at all and serving High Life bottles (the goal of our quest - see my review of Highland Tap). They'll even give you the six pack carrier if you order at least 5! I can see how it could get annoying when crowded, but it was basically just us, since there was a dance party next door and it was only an hour before closing time.

A classic dive bar - beer and wine and recently started accepting credit cards. Great wings and burgers. A little smokey but feels like a college bar of the 1980s.

  • Ben O.

Nothing fancy, but consistently good. We've ordered take-out twice from Moe's and Joe's, and both times our orders have been piping hot and flavorful -- and accurate, which is difficult when your order involves adding two ingredients and two sauces to one item and deleting an ingredient from the other item! At 9:30 on a Tuesday night, the bar was elbow-to-elbow guys, so if you're looking for a guy to share an order of wings and a pitcher of PBR with, this would be a good place to find one.

Great little spot in Virginia Highlands. Good place to catch a Football game...plenty of TV's. They have really good wings. Order them 'hot and wet', you'll be happy you spent the extra 50 cents. The customers and employees are all cool. Just know that when you leave, you will smell of cigarette smoke for the rest of the day. Oh well...the wings are worth the smoke.

  • Joseph D.

Hmmm.... Cheap pitchers of PBR vs. douchebag fratboys and bottle blondes... dammit... Maybe I should give Moe's and Joe's a shot on a different night of the week. I can see this spot might be more appealing to me during finals week or spring break. I'm not sure if the dirt cheap PBR is just on Tuesday though. I'll deal with the college brats as long as there's no karaoke. It has potential.

I want to love Moe's & Joe's for lots of reasons. A) I love The Cavern next door, where the service is consistently cool and drinks are reasonable. B) I can walk here, good neighborhood bars are the best! I also really enjoy beer, so I have no problem with the fact that they only serve beer. My experience this Friday was anything but up-to-par of what my neighbors or others have told me of this place. Even as close as it is, I never find myself stopping here on nights out. So when we were about to leave The Cavern on Friday and it started to downpour, we hopped in next door to enjoy a quick quesadilla in hopes the rain would end. To say the bartender was surly, is an understatement. He was rude and his attitude was really unnecessary, despite how cool he seems to think he is. We sat at the bar none-the-less and recieved minimal service, and snarky remarks because he said we were in the way when he was trying to serve others (ummm... we are sitting at the bar?). Either way, I think no matter what we did we would have been in "his way". Next time I return I'll hope for a bartender who is having a better night, and in turn I'll hope for a better experience.

Tonight was the first night I'd actually had food here, instead of beer, and I was pleasantly surprised. The house salad with bbq chicken tenders was good, nothing terribly special, but it hit the spot since I was hungry. My boyfriend got the wings, which he said were really good, and some little burger for $2.75 that looked and tasted exactly like a McDonald's burger, it was kind of funny. Was pretty good! They're having a special right now for Guinness for St. Patty's Day - 20 oz. pints for $6. So we had 2 of those, delicious. I don't love the bar itself - it's kind of small and I think I smelled smoke....but I'd come back for a bite to eat and a beer. It's insanely packed on weekends, ugh.

  • Christopher B.

Cheap Beer. Does it take more to get stars than that? Honestly, yes it does. And Moe's does their concept right. 50ish diner seating, free popcorn, dive bar food, cheap pitchers and did I mention the beer prices? The outdoor patio is great to sit on with some pbr, a few bitchy friends and watch all the post-greeks walk around the highlands. Can get cramped, and does close early some nights. Go Tuesday night! 4 dollar foster's pitchers. I know... Foster's. But once again, 4 dollars. Moe's and Joe's isn't nice, the service is average at best, but it is exactly what it claims to be and does it well. Definetly worth a look if you're in the neighboorhood. And if you see me there, buy me a beer please!
