Love love love this place. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. It's a smaller place but it's very accommodating! The service is by far the best I've experienced in Atlanta in a long time. I've only been here twice for brunch but the second time the server remembered me from my first experience so that made me feel special. You can see the kitchen from the dining room so I enjoy watching them prepare each person's meal. I enjoy the mimosas but the key part is the food, which is my favorite part! The chicken. THE FRIED CHICKEN IS AMAZING. Crispy, crunchy, juicy, awesome. The French toast is perfectly cooked, not soggy at all, which is how it should be. The hangover fries are exactly what I would want to eat if I was having a hangover... Or just hungry. You really can't go wrong here. BTW, park in the parking garage and they will validate your parking for 2 free hours. I promise you'll be hooked! I can't wait to go back!

What can I say except "Love Max's"! Friday night had the cheese board and flounder fish and chips. Ended up back on Saturday afternoon having the grilled cheese and tomato soup... and the cheese board. Max's is one of our go to places in midtown. Wine selection is amazing, the staff is friendly and helpful. If you haven't been, you are missing out on an ATL gem.

So.... the wait staff was very friendly. They made sure. That we had everything we needed. We were there for a birthday and they did give free desert and wine. I gave them only 3 stars because of the food. I sent back the 1st meal due to feathers still on the chicken. I opted to go just for the eggs, bacon, toast and potatoes. When I asked for jelly they told me they don't have jam. Do they not have jam in the south for breakfast? So confused. So many other places to go with both good food and good service.

So I have been here twice now. First time was in October and then again in early December. This is a spot I would recommend for wine but not necessarily the food. They have a cool rule that if you commit to two glasses of a particular bottle of wine then they will open that bottle of wine. Definitely enjoyed some nice wine that way! In terms of the food, it has been an average experience overall. Sliders were quite well done when I had them. Then I tried a warm vegetable salad that I did not like. Thankfully the waiter switched it out for brussel sprouts with bacon which I did enjoy. My friend had the fried chicken which he loved. He also mentioned that the place had a good happy hour. Though I thought the food was overpriced for the quality, I would return for after dinner drinks or to try the happy hour specials.

I came here twice. Once for a birthday and another time with friends. The first time was for dinner. The food was great and the wine we ordered was awesome! The service was good as well. The second time we came, the service was exceptional and the brunch was amazing. Everyone loved the food they ordered at brunch. I highly recommend the brunch, and the chicken biscuits, which my husband ordered was fabulous! I almost wish I had ordered that for my meal instead.

I tried this place with friends when Diner wasn't yet open and we needed a spot in the midtown area. If I were going just for wine, I would probably give this spot a four. They had an extensive list to choose from, and even if you ordered a bottle, they would give you by the glass pricing if you committed to at least two glasses. The food was pretty average. I had a fried egg sandwich, which was pretty tasty, but nothing I would recommend anyone come out for. My friends ordered meatloaf and the fried chicken, and from what I understand the meatloaf dish wasn't very impressive and the fried chicken was ok, but sides meh. Nothing was bad, but nothing was great either. The drunk bread we ordered for an appetizer was pretty tasty, but nothing you couldn't get with cheesy bread sticks and marinara at any Italian joint. I'd go back to try some wines, but I wouldn't seek out the food. But try it for yourself if you're in the area!

Went to Max's around 2pm on a Sunday after already having Brunch somewhere else, wanted to continue on with Boozy Sunday. Ordered a glass of mimosa with grapefruit juice and the bread pudding dessert. The mimosa was nothing out the ordinary, however the dessert was quite heavenly. The cast iron kept it warm the entire time and the ice cream was a nice add ( for an additional $2) Would definitely go back to try other brunch items. They have red velvet pancakes!!!!

We were here for dinner for a birthday the place is small and not busy at all on a saturday night. We ordered drinks and the meal no appetizer which probably explains why our food took some time even thought there was only 4 tables tops eating. I ordered the fish special which was a trout and it was delish I have to say very good flavor and fresh. The small plates seem kind of expensive compared to the main course prices since my plate was only 20 bucks. Parking was fustrating they had only one person working the valet and it was very slow I don't know yet if i want to try them again i will consider the fact that i liked my meal.

I can't say anything bad about this place. I have been here for dinner and for brunch and both were awesome experiences for me and friends. Definitely a must try.

Went this past Friday and found they have changed the entire menu. We had been telling friends how great it was. No more jalapeño fried chicken, mashed potatoes and collards as a daily choice. No more truffle tots. The menu now looks like every other midtown bar. Our server told us that Corporate made the change because sales were not as expected at this location. This is too bad as my husband and I both vowed never to return.

This may be my new favorite place in Midtown. I love my wine but you can't get a decent glass anywhere for like under $7 (I'm still stuck in college mode where I think drinks should cost like $4) but LUCKILY you can get a glass of their house wine for $5 and it's pretty phenomenal. They have a ton of wine options and you can get bottles to go. I've had a few different things to eat here and everything has been extremely satisfying. Also, the service is ALWAYS great and I love their t-shirts, so fun! (Hint hint they should give me a shirt for this review). All in all this is my go-to place for after work food and drinks and being walking distance from where I work is just the icing on the cake. If you're in the area and looking for a chill place with great food and drinks then you definitely need to park your ass at Max's.

I'm a sucker for anything that involves wine, so I was predisposed to love this place from the outset. I made reservations for five for Saturday evening on OpenTable, and the earliest time slot available was 8:30. We arrived a few minutes early, and nearly every table was seated. The hostess invited us to have a seat at the bar (which was essentially empty) while we waited for our table. I really liked the feel of the place: classy, but not pretentious. Warm, yet modern. The wall art was quirky, featuring a Lego-ish character who I can only assume to be Max? They also have a few outdoor tables on Crescent for delightful al fresco dining/ Ri Ra people watching. The five of us posted up at the sleek little bar where you can watch the kitchen staff crank out a scrumptious assortment of dishes. The jovial bartender presented us with menus and gave us the lowdown on the wine situation. The list of offerings is beautiful and expansive with offerings at a variety of price points, ranging from about $30-$415 (not quite in my price range, but good to know that someone out there can swing it). We ordered the Kumbaya red blend which was $39 and it was positively superb. Smooth, not too heavy. Delicious. I ate beforehand and had intended to come only for the wine, but when I saw all of the delicious plates at the tables around me, my stomach was grumbling. I ordered the Baby Kale Salad off of the small plates menu, and it was a pretty decent serving. The greens were fresh, the tomatoes were juicy, and the dressing was flavorful. Simple but satisfying! My favorite part about this place: they let you take wine home with you. Some of the girls in our party split a bottle of white, but did not finish it. The server corked the wine and provided a little to-go bag. They also allow you to mix and match from their menu, and take bottles home - a great idea for gifting! I'm pretty tempted to go back and get a bundle of three with that Kumbaya bottle thrown in the mix. And also make a return visit to indulge in their fantastic and fresh food menu. This classy and sleek and yummy spot is definitely a solid addition to the Midtown scene!

Came here for a Friday happy hour and shared some small plates and wine. The sign outside said happy hour but after looking at the happy hour menu we were sat down told the happy hour ended at 6. The $5 dollar wine was good and the pork stuffed peppers were very good. The sliders were overcooked and the service was polite but slow. I'm not sure if I would rush back to this place.

I've dined here about 4 times for lunch since it's near my job. I'm really glad they've extended their lunch hours. Originally, they were only open for lunch on Fridays, now they serve lunch Monday through Friday. Every time I've dined here, they've never been super busy. I'm not sure why because the food is good. I've had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and collard greens, the fried chicken salad, the hoe cakes, and most recently I've tried the BBQ chicken sandwich. I really like their fried chicken. It's cooked to order and is so juicy and delicious, just the way fried chicken is supposed to be prepared. I also really enjoyed the BBQ chicken sandwich. The bread they use is crisp, light and sweet, and it comes with greens and crispy onions. It all came together so well. I would order it again if I'm not in the mood for fried chicken. I really didn't care for the hoe cakes, just wasn't my thing. But hey, every thing isn't for everybody. I really wish they kept they lobster salad on the menu because my coworker and I saw someone eating it and we swore we would order that next time. However, next time didn't happen because it was no longer on the menu. I would love to come here on a day when I don't have to go back to work so I can enjoy a glass or two of wine. I recommend this place and the service and ambience are wonderful.

Can't beat a wine bar that has a photo of Johnny Cash on the wall. Great wine, and love that they will open a bottle of anything if you buy two glasses of it. Also, take advantage of the chalk board for details on wine opened earlier in the day.

By far the best BRUNSWICK Stew I've ever had (sorry mom). Unfortunately, it's only available on the lunch menu until 4 PM. Patrick, the chef puts a dollop of housemate pimento cheese on the top with grounds out this delectable stew. Another thing to consider, if you don't see a wine by the glass that you like, they will open any bottle of wine as long as you will commit to two glasses.

This is a cute little place with nice ambiance and great food. We had brunch on a Saturday afternoon. The mimosa cocktail was tasty. Our meals we're as well; eggs any style, potatoes, bacon, texas toast, pancakes, collard greens, and chicken wings. All on point! There's even a free juke box in the back. Good music always makes a great meal even better.

I've now tried Max's Wine Dive for brunch, lunch, and dinner. The fried chicken here really is some of the best I've had (and this is true whether it's the fried chicken entree or just the hoecakes and wings at brunch), and the food in general is quite good - especially for brunch. ("Dirty eggs" cooked in bacon fat, bacon, biscuit, and jalapeno cheddar grits? Yes, please!) Based on the name (dive), I originally thought it was going to be a really inexpensive place, so I was a bit disappointed about that during my first visit. Still, the pricing is in line with typical Midtown restaurants, so I can't really complain. The service is also a bit spotty, though - I had an awesome waiter when I went for lunch, but someone that seemed a bit flighty (or maybe just didn't want to be at work) when I went for brunch. Overall, a good place, though - worth visiting more than once!

I was one of the first when this opened here, and have been so many times by now. It's been a part of my top 3 brunch spots - coming from Houston, and I was dying for one to open here! I love late-night brunch, regular brunch starting on weekdays, champagne Sundays, and the wine specials. I have always had very lovely service, super friendly staff in both cities. The portions are sizable and you'll be satiated - I still order in twos, sometimes threes (shh!). I'm sold on the Fried Chicken & Champagne Salad, CB French Toast, RVP, Fries in cheese, Sliders, Shrimp & Grits, and Green Goat Omelet. I really want to try everything else on the menu but I just can't fight the urge to get the already long list of things I pine for at the time. I make everyone I know or meet here - who wants to do brunch - try it at some point, but I love that it's not overwhelmingly packed each time I come!

The food is pretty good, but my most recent service was horrible - we had a server named Michael (Monday night, August 31st). Very rude guy, very very rude. We started out friendly with him (asking about the mugshots on the wall), and I guess he took it as a greenlight to enter into our personal conversation for the entire night. He started calling me aggressive when I looked annoyed that my friend wanted me to cover the check. Michael started talking about how women should pay for mens dinner?! I mean, really guy? Then, lol, he actually said, "but its okay if you don't because for every woman that doesn't pay there are two more who will"... ummm, I'm confused - so you're admitting to dating desperate women, Am I supposed to be impressed by this?!? Because I'm not... it makes you look pathetic but most importantly WHY ARE YOU IN OUR BUSINESS - WHHHHYYY?????!!!! Dear Owners - Please re-train your server Michael. He's rude to customers. The service is slow here at times, but I really do like the food... Michael ruined MAX's Wine Dive for me though. He's hands down one of the most rude servers I've experienced in years.

I came for brunch and loved it. I am always walking around my neighborhood trying to find new places. We got reservations which it turns out we didn't need but it's nice to know we can reserve a brunch spot when needed. The staff was so very friendly too. They offer $3 Mimosas (watermelon, orange or grapefruit). For $10 you can upgrade it and go bottomless. We tried the: Chicken Biscuits and Gravy $13- this was two huge biscuit sandwiches. Nice and moist, fried to perfection and the gravy is superb. Eggs any Style $11- jalapeno cheese grits which where so perfectly creamy! Served with home fries and pecan wood smoked bacon. We ate every last bite of this. Props for the creamy grits, I am very picky and not all places can get it right but they did not disappoint. Famious Southern Fried Chicken $17- Buttermilk marinated chicken with home fries (got their jalapeno creamy grits instead) and collard greens. Their greens are good, a bit sweet and savory too. The chicken is made fresh so give them plenty of time to make it. I got the Gluten Free batter and it was still very good. I think I'll try something healthier next time. I love that I got a leg/thigh and a nice boneless chicken breast. I don't always want to work for my food picking the bones out. Options are nice.

Not having the greatest experience but I'll definitely give this place another try, especially because of their customer experience handling. Came in for their Thursday night entree special. Shrimp boil. Came with corn, potato, sausage and of course shrimp. Except ... The shrimp was extremely overcooked. Thankfully the manager? Staff? Noticed my lack of interest in my dinner where I explained my sadness. She understood and immediately offered to comp my meal and offered something else. I was already full, but appreciated the gesture. Enjoying my second $5 house red. Would love to take bottle home. Will be back to try something else.

My coworker and I came here for an extended happy hour on a Friday evening. We were seeking two things as we walked towards 12th street: drinks and food! Max's Wine Dive, with its welcoming outdoor patio and relaxed patrons, quickly caught our eye. It was a beautiful evening, and we timed our arrival just right--all the tables were taken outside, but as we approached the host stand, a couple left and the server quickly cleared off the table for us. The staff here is very friendly, as multiple people greeted us when we arrived, and we enjoyed great service throughout our time here. I ordered a Bellini and their Blue Crab Cakes- Maryland blue crab and green onion sauce. The crab cakes come three to an order and are generous servings of crabmeat. Delicious! I would love to come here again, as it turned out to be an excellent choice for happy hour!

We went for Sunday brunch using a Scoutmob deal. The food was tasty, portions were large. I had the hangover breakfast, my date had hoe cakes and chicken wings. I had an orange mimosa while my date had grapefruit mimosa. Our waitress Karlie was super sweet and even gave us a watermelon bellini on the house which was tasty. We look forward to trying their lunch and dinner menu, as well as the wine selection.

Don't let the name of the restaurant fool you, this isn't a "dive bar" -this is a fun and eclectic restaurant with a wine and champagne selection that rivals some many 5 star restaurants. The chef, Patrick is PHENOMENAL! His inventive menu and fun themed weekend brunches (Saturday Morning Cartoon & Soul Train) make this midtown restaurant stand out. I went for 2 special chef tasting events that won my foodie heart over. Patrick takes southern cooking and mixes it with the freshest produce of the season and throws in a Jewish flare that produces some of the best tasting food ever. Some of the dishes I have tried (all amazing): Cheese plate with homemade pickled veggies - Patrick picks the perfect cheeses...what better way to start a meal? Alligator corn dogs - Oddly tasty...I now enjoy eating alligator Crab cakes - Real crab seasoned to perfection. Spinach and strawberry salad with a berry dressing that is light and refreshing. Fried brussel sprouts - crunchy goodness. Chicken potpie - AMAZEBALLS - Not a foodie term, but words cannot describe the this decadant delight. Roasted chicken with wedge potatoes - I didn't know roasted chicken could be this addictive. I really don't how this is prepared, but I want to replicate and repeat this meal weekly. Pork belly risotto with spring peas - another dish that was absolute perfection. Strawberry shortcake made with southern style biscuits. I don't care for biscuits but I could not stop eating this perfect dessert. Sprint Wine Pairing Menu (April 8, 2015): Strawberry Gazpacho with mint pesto - Fresh and inventive. Asparagus latke with lemon-dill yogurt, pickled fennel - this would make any Jewish grandma proud. Inventive spin on a traditional latke. Lamb chops with a mint-cumin rub, cucumber raita, and israeli couscous - Perfectly prepared and another recipe I want to add to my list. Strawberry Tiramisu - Fluffy strawberry perfection. Everything on the regular menu is extraordinary. I cannot wait to try the fried chicken and waffles with champagne, a signature dish at MAX's. Let me not forget to mention the amazing lunch options. I wish I worked closer to MAX's, this would be my daily lunch spot. Beautiful decor with an amazing wine/champagne wall. Fun bar area to enjoy dinner alone or with a group. I enjoy watching the chef and staff preparing the meals... Great layout inside for groups or an intimate dinner. Nice patio area to enjoy the beautiful Atlanta skyline. Visit MAX's soon...and make sure to say hello to the amazing chef that is breathing new life into this fun area of midtown Atlanta.

Stopped in for Friday happy hour. Service at the bar was friendly, but pretty slow. I had a couple of glasses of house Red for $5 so I was pleased. The food we had was good, but our bartendress disappeared for a solid ten minutes and I watched my fries sitting in the window waiting to be brought to me. Thankfully, they were still warm once they arrived and they were tasty. We also got the popcorn chicken which was tasty as well. The biggest downside to Max's is the location. Parking in that area is a drag. Yes, you can park in the garage and get validated, but that is only good for two hours. After that it's like $30 an hour or something ridiculous. So get in, have a couple of glasses of wine and get the hell out! $30 to park will ruin your whole evening.

My boyfriend and I ventured over here on a Thursday for a mini date night. I convinced him what a great place it was after a Yelp event in January when they first opened up. We sat on the patio and started with a cheap bottle of wine (#priorities), pulled pork stuffed peppers ($13.50), and the MAX'n cheese ($11.50). The stuffed peppers were decent, but I had a love affair with the mac and cheese because it had truffle oil, which is my kryptonite. He got the chicken pot pie ($14) and I got the fried chicken ($17). Chicken pot pie was really good. The fried chicken was very flavorful and appropriately satiated my comfort food craving for the month. Service was good. It was a lovely date. Not the cheapest meal, but it was a good experience and we enjoyed the food and ambiance. We brought our friends to the restaurant less than a week later and decided to sit on the patio again. When my boyfriend went to sit down, his patio chair completely collapsed. OMFG. The back of the chair broke from the seat. Thankfully he leaned forward when he fell backwards; otherwise, he would have hit the window behind him and that would have been really bad news bears. Our waiter and the chef immediately came out and asked if he was ok. After making sure he wasn't hurt, our group proceeded with our meal and ordered a couple bottles of wine, the MAX'n cheese again, and the drunk bread. The bread was decent but not that memorable. I got the chicken pot pie this time so that I could have it all to myself. My boyfriend got the fried egg sandwich, which was huge and also delicious. Halfway through our meal, our waiter came out and offered to comp our second bottle of wine or a dessert for my boyfriend's near-death experience. It was a very generous gesture. We thanked him and went with the wine because if I fed my love handles any more, my chair would have collapsed too. Then the chef comes out and asks which dessert we would like, and we got really confused. I mentioned we were told we could have our bottle of wine comped, and he laughed and was like, yeah, we can't do that, a dessert is around $7; there are no comparable bottles of wine around that price. Come on, really? For an extra thirteen dollars, you're willing to lose a customer because you're too cheap to comp a $20 bottle of wine? We selected the banana pudding and made a silent note that we would probably never be back. Fortunately, our waiter came back out and basically told us to ignore the chef because he already cleared with the manager that the bottle was on the house. Additionally, because of the confusion, they would also be comping our dessert. What an emotional rollercoaster. Well played, MAX's--good food can only get you so far; thanks to your management and customer service, we will be back. Also, happy hour Monday - Friday, 4 - 6 PM.

I came to this place for lunch and because of Scoutmob! With the scoutmob deal, you get 2 lunch entrees with 2 desserts and a treat from the chef for $29! Cant beat it! The food is awesome! I had the fried chicken with the mashed potatoes and collard greens! The food is very flavorful, hot, fresh and yes, awesome presentation.... A MUST HAVE The Reason behind the 4 stars and not 5: However, for it to be lunch, our food was a bit slow, but I wasn't pressed for time. Also the next day when i reheated my leftovers, my 2nd piece of chicken was not completely cooked. But, for some reason, I'm not turned off! I will go back for brunch and possibly the Happy Hour, Bubbles and Bucket deal!

For many years I've been wishing for a wine bar to come to Midtown, and while this wasn't exactly what I dreamed up, this concept is 100% perfect for Atlanta and the Midtown crowd. Think gastropub except...wine... I felt very comfortable in the small space, it's the type of spot that will work for a business lunch, casual business dinner, dinner with friends, first date...the space just works for all those occasions. I think the fact that most people are drinking wine and there are wine bottles decorating the place give a touch of class to an otherwise carbon copy of all the other modern, urban dive bars around town. They have lots of wines to choose from, including many blends for those of us that aren't super particular. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped someone at our table pick a second glass based on what she didn't like about the first. I really respect that and feel it is a complete necessity for any venue that is alcohol-centric, so it was a mix of relief and satisfaction that the server pulled through in that moment. I was very happy with the white I chose at a great $7/glass price. For dinner, I had a hard time deciding because nothing really stood out to me as a *must order dish*. We started with the drunk bread, which is basically a way fancier version of cheese bread you might get from a local pizza joint. It looked and tasted absolutely divine. Who doesn't love bread & cheese!? Warning that the texture can be a bit soggy at times, and while I thought I might be put off by that, I wasn't. I had the MAX's Hungry Dinner, which included a slice of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, roasted cauliflower, and a "sweet treat" - your basic meat & three. Most entrees are served on a gigantic square plate, but this was served in a dinner tray. For me it was a cute novelty but I definitely felt like I was in a completely different restaurant than the rest of my table. It was nice to have each side stay separated though. I didn't LOVE anything in my dish - nothing was served piping hot; it was all lukewarm. Mashed potatoes were very plain (need seasoning), brussels sprouts were very undercooked for me. Cauliflower was good but nothing wow about them. My sweet treat (that is exactly what it says on the menu!) was a banana bread pudding. I had bites that were delicious and other bites that were meh. My friend had the fried egg sandwich which looked AMAZING and the chips alongside it were delicious. Staff members were constantly around clearing plates and refilling waters - this was really nice! This one is really tough for a star rating - it is definitely above a 3 but I'm not sure I would voluntarily suggest this as a place to go back to, so it doesn't quite get a 4. Certainly it's a better option than some of the other places in the surrounding area. By the way - they validate parking but only in the garage on 12th street - not on the one Crescent. Navigate to the restaurant Tabla and you will find the entrance to the garage.

I didn't stay here long so I'll make this short and sweet. Atmosphere: Super noisy place. They were playing poison when I walked in. Apparently they have a juke box and one of the patrons thinks wine and poison go together. The name does have dive in it so I guess... Wine: Served to us not properly chilled and in hot glasses. Or maybe that's why the wine wasn't chilled. Either way it was just wrong. Service: The bartender didn't know wine at all. Luckily we did so we were able to steer ourselves to something we liked on the menu. This is in my Midtown compound so I will probably be back. I'll make sure to get tipsy beforehand so I am better set for the noise.

I'm having a hard time writing this review and actually held off for a while because I really want to keep this place all to myself! Fried chicken and champagne??!!!! That's what the f I'm talking about!!! Location: The location here is wonderful! It's close to a lot of other places in midtown but not too congested to access. They validate parking in the garage for up to 2 hours. Be careful though because that garage is extremely expensive otherwise so be sure to get it validated! The food: their specialty is fried chicken which is super on point! It's not finger lickin fried chicken but more like fancy fried chicken. It's a must try. Although the chicken is good I have to admit their brunch menu is my favorite. Creme brûlée French toast.... Whaaaaattt.... Yessssss! Just go try it. Don't ask questions. Service: I've never had anything less than 5 star service! Holly keeps everything running smoothly and Michael provides stellar and prompt service. I am truly impressed with their level of service and welcoming nature. P.s. Try the mimosas!!! Pace yourself. Happy drinking!!!

I was delighted to attend a Yelp Elite Event here. This place will definitely be put into the "hangout" list. The atmosphere is hella cool and the food is great! I had the white wine option(don't remember the name of it but i'll post a pic of it). It was very nice and will be added to the bar at home! The food options were quite tasty. The macaroni & cheese was made with 4 cheeses and cooked to perfection. I'm an advocate of "you can never have to much cheese." The 4 cheeses blended perfectly and made for a tasty dish. I'll definitely be ordering it when return! THE FRIED CHICKEN....LISTEN! LISTEN WELL! This is one of the best renditions of fried chicken that i've tried in this city outside of Sweet Georgia's Juke Joint. I WILL BE GETTING FRIED CHICKEN EVERYTIME I RETURN HERE! And the honey chipotle sauce that comes with it just makes it even better! If a friend committed a crime and they offered me this fried chicken, i'd strongly consider rolling on them. lol...that's how good this chicken is! Pulled Pork Stuff pepper - it actually surprised me how good these were. The Pulled pork was tender and seasoned to perfection and the pepper was a creative way to package it. This was my second favorite dish behind the fried chicken. Pork Melon risotto - this was my least favorite dish out of everything. I just felt like there were too many clashing flavors going on here. I think whoever came up with this in the lab(kitchen) may be on to something but simply needs to go back to the drawing board. I understand that all great chefs take chances and i totally see the potential in this dish but it just needs more work in my opinion. I'll definitely be back here. The only downside that i can think of here is the parking situation. Parking is REALLY expensive. If you simply wanted to come hang out here for a few hrs, the parking rates are insane. I'm very glad that they validate parking but even with that it's still expensive. I'd probably find parking elsewhere and walk here if possible. Other than that one thing, i give this place a two thumbs up. Try it out!

Simple, Cool and Homey. These are the three words I would use to describe Max's. Absolutely loved the visit here! It's a little gem in midtown that I've clearly been overlooking for a long time. - CHICAGO/NEW YORK VIBE when you are sitting inside. Why do I say that you might ask? Well, the finish of the room inside looks like it came from an old building and was decorated on top with contemporary touches. I don't believe the building itself is old, just had that feel. Cool experience for Atlanta. - BEST SERVICE throughout the night. Bailey was our server and did such a fantastic job. Speed and attention in every aspect. His recommendations were awesome too. - GRILLED CHEESE sandwich is such a bang for your buck. That thing is massive, delicious and loaded with so much cheese. I mean, SO MUCH CHEESE. Loved it. I actually finished the second half of it for lunch today. - BISON SLIDERS were nice. Although they call it a small plate, it's really not that small. 3 sliders! - MUSIC selections were excellent. Everything was just a little funky, fun and for the money, just does not get much better.

Most of the information you need to know is in my last review, but I thought I'd update my review with an amusing tale from this past weekend. Since I think Max's is not a good value, I was excited when they popped up as a scoutmob hand-picked. $29 for apple fritters, two entrees, and two drinks (mimosa/bellini). When we came in at 1pm on Saturday they were already out of the bellini (but were happy to tell us how good it was). Not sure how they couldn't make more. No big deal, the mimosas were tasty. The deal came with apple fritters. We cut into the first round and all four had raw dough in the center. We sent them back and the second round were even more raw in the center. I can understand one round could be undercooked, but two in a row? It was like the cook didn't care at all. For entrees we had the fried chicken, which is really incredible. Perfectly seasoned and well cooked (not raw at all!). I had the burger which I found to be pretty standard, but way too wet that burger juice got all over the plate. I've given Max's three shots, but that's it for me.

Came for Brunch and our server Matthew was hilarious. We had a rather large party of about 15 but were the only people in the restaurant so it worked out. All our food was delicious. A bit pricy but overall yummy! Between all of us we tried a little bit of everything. Although everything was good I have to say the famous southern fried chicken was very much overrated!i wouldn't order it again, like EVER!

I usually don't do 5 star posts but I had the best Shrimp and Grits I've ever had and the chicken was awesome too. Patrick was a great server and recommended the perfect wine as he gave menu suggestions. Will definitely be back.

A welcome addition to Midtown, Max's Wine Dive has a pretty cool vibe and nicely complements the abundance of beer joints in the area. Long and narrow, the space reminds me a little of Churchill Grounds near the Fox Theatre, but with classic rock and roll blaring from the jukebox instead of live jazz. The staff is welcoming and will help you select the right wine - or wines - to pair with your food selections. The food options are varied, but the emphasis is comfort food: fried chicken; burgers; mac and cheese; shrimp and grits. The good news for those with food allergies is that many of Max's signature dishes, like their Famous Southern fried chicken, can be made "gluten friendly" or gluten free. (There's a dedicated fryer for the GF fried chicken. It's finger licking good and pairs nicely with Prosecco.) In addition to the fried chicken, Max's pulled pork stuffed peppers are flavorful and filling. New to the winter menu is a pork belly risotto, which may need some work to be a really great dish, but I'm confident Chef Patric will work out the kinks and make this dish really sing. Both paired well with a Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon. During a recent lunch with a friend, I tried the lobster Cobb salad, which arrived on a large platter filled with lettuce and drenched in buttermilk dressing. The lobster was cooked expertly, but most of the other ingredients - pecan wood-smoked bacon, egg, roasted grape tomatoes and cucumber - kind of got lost in the mix. Next time I'll ask for the dressing on the side and about half the lettuce. Wine pairing - Broadbent Vinho Verde, a clean white with a slight effervescence. Easy on the palate and delicious with lobster. All in all, Max's Wine Dive lives up to its name and its concept. Great wines paired with tasty comfort food, familiar classic rock and Motown tunes on the jukebox, and excellent customer service. I will definitely be back. Next up - brunch!

Ate brunch with a group of girlfriends on a Sunday. Only one of us had eaten hear before. The server took time to explain the menu and substitutions we could make. Full bar with lots of specialty drinks. We had their Bellini special. Their portions are big! I had a specific type of french toast that I can't remember the name with chicken sausage. My friend ordered chicken biscuits. They were huge. We all shared one of them. Everything tasted great. We ended up splitting a ScoutMob that was available that covered brunch for 2. Not sure if the deal is still available but I was shocked to see a weekend deal during brunch. Plus the staff did not act annoyed about a "deal" like most places do. This place is worth trying. You can park in the parking deck attached to the building. They will validate your parking at the hostess stand.

Despite visiting this area more than a dozen times, I never stopped in before. Glad I did. Had the fried chicken that was excellent although they have stiff competition from another place down the street. The green beans were the best I ever had and I'm not a fan of green beans to begin with. Definitely worth a repeat visit. The fried lobster looked tempting but the $40 price tag pretty much killed that... ;-)

While the rest of the Crescent Ave scene was on and poppin' with inebriated, club-attire clad individuals strutting their stuff to the sound of howling, cat calls, and loud music pouring out of the clubs into the late Saturday night, MAX's Wine Dive was catering to a different sort of crowd. Here, classic rock played in a casual bar atmosphere as patrons chatted over glasses of wine and food. The decor was very eclectic - mugshots of celebrities and artistic photos of Lego Mini-Figures were hung on the walls. There was a vintage jukebox. Heck, I even spotted a leg lamp tucked away in a corner near one of the wine racks. The wine list offered a pretty good selection of wines of different varietals from various regions of the world - certainly not the most extensive or impressive list I had ever seen, but plenty good for the size and scope of their operation. I ordered a glass of red blend, my wife ordered Prosecco. The menu presented several appealing and unique food options in small and large plate formats. We opted for the Pan Borracho ("Drunk Bread") described as "torn sourdough baguette baked in a white wine custard with prosciutto, thyme, Gruyère, provolone and Parmigiano-Reggiano". When one thinks of baguette and custard, pain perdu (French Toast) comes to mind. Taking a few bites out of the Pan Borracho, I could certainly discern the familial tie it had with French Toast. The texture was a close match, only where French Toast is usually sweet, Pan Borracho was savory and cheesy. Pan Borracho is like the love child produced from French Toast and Baked Mac 'n' Cheese getting together after a drunken one-night stand. Naughty... tasty. Be advised: This kind of baby-making takes some time, expect to wait at least 20 minutes for it to be delivered to your table. We also ordered BBQ Chicken Empanadas off of their fall menu. Featuring roasted corn pico and sweet corn aioli on top, these may go down as the best empanadas I have ever had. Freaking amazing. Even though my visit was less than 48 hours ago, I am already eager to eat and drink here again. (Note: It was MAX's Wine Dive's food sample and 15%-Off coupon at Taste of Atlanta that ultimately convinced us to come here. Their marketing strategy paid off nicely!)

Went here for a friend's birthday on a Saturday. It's not as big as I thought but it was much more enjoyable since it was a quiet Saturday night... It was good for us but maybe not so good for their business. I didn't drink so I couldn't enjoy their long list of wine so I'll definitely have to return a second time to do so. The food is really good. I highly recommend the brussel sprouts. It's baked in the oven and then flash fried to a crisp, super crunchy and delicious. I had the steak medium rare and it was perfect. A tad heavy on the salty side but I'll request for less salt next time. My friend had the special of the night which was almond crusted trout - sooo good. She and I normally would not order fish at any restaurant... It was perfectly seasoned and the crust is so addicting. The service was decent, I thought the price was very reasonable for the portion. The ambiance is more casual than I thought...

Came here for a friend's birthday party. My first reaction was shock at how accommodating they were to a huge group (20-25 people)! And the service for having that many people was still excellent. The drinks at this place are mostly focused on wines- beer and and liquor drinkers be prepared for a limited selection. The wines by the bottle are a great option to share and they will even send the bottle home with you if you can't finish it. My friend and I ordered a nice bottle of champagne to share and we very happy with our selection. If you plan on having 2 or more glasses I highly suggest going for the bottle! For food we all mostly stuck to apps and small plates. I got the chicken fried Brussels sprouts which were DELICIOUS! People around me tried the drunken bread, Mac n cheese, and crab cakes which all looked great and got rave reviews. My overall experience was great and there were tons of yummy sounding things on the menu that I will be coming back to try!

I was not very impressed with this place. The service started off great but didn't last. We would finish our wine and someone would take the glasses but then we would be sitting and waiting a while before she would ask if we wanted another. I had heard the fried chicken was the best thing here. Since my friend and I weren't very hungry we split the chicken sliders and Mac n cheese. The sliders were ok but nothing special. They had way more bread than chicken so I didn't feel like I got a feel for this amazing chicken. The chicken was tiny little flat patties. We were not impressed with the Mac n cheese either. It just wasn't very flavorful, granted I really prefer it made with other cheeses. The portion size was huge. Atmosphere was great but I'd say it is unlikely I will go back.

I was looking for somewhere to grab a couple of drinks with some friends and ended up getting more than expected. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. What started out as a journey for a couple of drinks ended with a new go-to spot. The vibe that was received from the staff was extremely inviting. The food..... OMG..... Oxtail hash, fried chicken and crab cakes were all delicious... This is definitely one of our new establishments as we plan to try everything on the menu...

Went there for a Valentines dinner special. 3 course meal for $60 that included stuffed peppers, sirloin with chicken fried lobster tail, red velvet cupcake and chocolate covered strawberries. A glass of wine or champagne was also included. Service was fine, food was just ok. The steak was very thin, over cooked and over seasoned. I ordered mine medium rare and came medium well like all of the others that were ordered medium. Peppers and lobster tail were actually pretty good. Will not rush to get back...

"Fried chicken and champagne? Why the hell not?" With a slogan like that, how can you not want to try Max's Wine Dive. Having won tickets to the Atlanta Wine Party (thanks Ben - it was amazing!), we needed to find dinner in Midtown before going on a wine bender. My best friend and I took to Yelp and decided that Max's seemed like a perfect place to have fried Southern food before getting white girl wasted at Opera. I should note that we were unsure what to wear to a wine party, so we opted for cocktail dresses and were completely overdressed for Max's. It is a very nondescript Marlowe's Tavern type of interior and we were very much dressed too fancy for it. Oh well, you can never be overdressed or overeducated! We were promptly seated at 5:00, where there were a couple of others enjoying the blue hair special. Our server was very helpful in explaining the whole restaurant concept and menu. We were sort of in sticker shock of the wine list. It's pricier than one would expect given the mundane ambiance. We opted for the cheapest bottle of champagne because clearly we needed to have fried chicken and champagne. It was $34 and fine but nothing to write home about. For dinner, we decided to split the fried oyster nachos, famous fried chicken, and tater tots. The fried oyster nachos are delicious but oh so garlicy. I don't think I've ever complained about something having too much garlic before, but these were really over the top. The tater tots are good, but they really weren't that memorable. Where Max's really shines is the fried chicken. It was three pieces of perfectly moist and breaded fried chicken atop of collard greens and mashed potatoes. It's a hearty serving that can easily be split amongst two people. Truth be told, I thought everything was a tad overpriced for what it was. All of the food was good but not mind blowing by any means. The atmosphere is okay but not great. Where Max's really rocks is the amazing music selection they play. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Janis Joplin, and the Rolling Stones make any meal better. I would definitely come back if in the area for a concert or something (I never go out in Midtown), but Max's Wine Dive was not good enough to become a regular destination for me.

Max's was a place I had been wanting to try since I saw it in the Jezebel magazine before it even opened! The menu looked great and it had a lot of rave reviews about the one in Texas. Houston I believe! I wanted some champagne and fried chicken since that was what the restaurant specialized in. The fried chicken was amazing! I don't really like my food on top of one another like is was displayed but hey! I ate it all anyways. Perfectly paired with lovely mashed potatoes. For this to be a new spot it was completely empty. The atmosphere is nice and the food was good so I hope it gets more business. Especially with it being in such a great location! I will try to make it again. I don't like to go to places more than once but this is a worthy second time try.

I finally got a chance to come here. I had brunch earlier with the BFF. I was feeling the ambiance and the vibe of the place. The inside of the restaurant is kind of small but enough room to accommodate a decent size crowd. There's outdoor seating as well. We sat on the inside. I ordered a grapefruit mimosa to start while I looked over the brunch menu. I decided to have the Creme Brûlée French Toast with a side of bacon and hash brown casserole. Omg I was very please with the French Toast. I think it is safe to say that was the best French Toast I've EVER had! The chef fully captured the essence of Creme Brûlée in the French Toast. Hands down, it was amaze balls! The casserole included cheese, bacon, and onions. I'm a firm believer that bacon makes everything great! I'm excited to go back for lunch or dinner along with brunch again. Great place! Oh and I must say, my brunch selections caught a few eyes from patrons seated on both sides of our table. Lol in between bites I was asked about what I was eating. I finished off my meal with a regular(orange Juice) Mimosa. For $3 you can't beat it!

Drunk Connie reaaaally liked the fried chicken. We came here after a day party at Ri Ra's (across the street) for St Patty's Day. A girlfriend and I shared the plate which was HUGE! The fried chicken (3 pieces) came with mashed potatoes and collard greens. Our table also ordered tater tots which was also pretty good. We had originally sat at the bar by the window but was moved (it was the six of us) to a table because the hostess was nice to try to keep us together. After that though, the service was almost non-existent. He took our order, food was brought out and that was it. Took forever to flag down someone to bring our checks so we could take our drunk butts home.

  • Alex M.

The food is just okay, and the service is friendly but very slow and non-attentive for such a small place. Overall, this place gets 3 stars because the prices don't at all justify the experience. The drink prices were absurd for a place that sells wine as its main attraction. A local draught beer was $8, while I've seen it for $5-6 other places, and the wines are ridiculously overpriced for the quality of what you get. Most glasses cost as much as a high quality cocktail in other parts of the city. The food itself was also fairly expensive for the quality, which is very slightly above average. The variety of menu options was kind of limited to just comfort foods. There just isn't a reason to go to Max's given the amount of superior, more fairly priced options everywhere else.

All I can say is yum! Hubby and I went for date night after a friend suggested we try it out. It's a small place, but doesn't feel cramped. The staff was friendly, engaging and knowledgeable about the food and wine. We had crab cakes as an appetizer - yum. I had the fried lobster tail which was pure perfection, including the mashed potatoes and collard greens. My husband liked the shrimp and grits, but didn't find it very spicy. We shared the mac-n-cheese which was good, but was missing a little flavor in my opinion. The suggested Chardonnay was delicious as well. The only negative was the high-top seating, but that was minor. I highly recommend. They validate parking in the parking garage for up to 2 hours.

The fried chicken was amazing... perfectly moist & juicy inside, crispy and flavorful outside... delicious. Portions were huge too. And best collard greens I've ever had. The tater tots were ok. The general tso cauliflower was spiiiiicy!

Great place!!! First loved the parking deck behind it so you can get validated parking. I HATE parking in Buckhead sometimes! We made a reservation on Thursday but it was not that crowded so we walked right in. I LOVE their wine menu. I wanted to try something new and my server was so kind and gave me a whole bunch of samples. I ended up with the Chez Jerome Colombard which is one of my new fav white wines. Once I find a wine I LOVE I am obsessed and you can buy the bottles of wine there as well! That to me is great! The food was REALLY good as well. We had the "drunk" bread which is bread and cheese melted and more cheese and it was outstanding!! I went for the Mac n Cheese as my meal since I wanted something smaller.... it was off the CHAIN!!! It needed a just a littttle salt and pepper but it was amazing. I couldn't even finish it. Very rich and gooey!!! My friend got the fried chicken and I had a little yummy tasting, and that is SOME SERIOUS fried chicken!! It was cooked perfectly, the crunch was great, and it came w sides!!! I really wanna come back for brunch! Their menu looked great! Great little place in Buckhead!!

I attended an event here last night where I got to sample many of the dishes from the menu. We started with champagne (because "Fried chicken and Champagne?...Why the Hell not?!"). First we tried the truffled mac and cheese. I should mention that my feelings about truffle oil are the same as Joe Bastianich's (worth a Google search). Next came the chicken wings, which were perfectly cooked with an excellent crispy crust. To go with this, I had a Jordan Chardonnay that paired well. Then came some piquillo peppers stuffed with pulled pork, which had just the right amount of smoky pork flavor combined with the slight heat & sweet from the pepper. I was starting to get a little full, but that didn't stop me from trying the truffled tator tots (see previous note about my feelings toward truffle oil). The next round consisted of popcorn chicken, served in a cute paper popcorn bag. The chicken pieces were generously sized, also with a great crust. This place clearly does chicken very well. Our last course consisted of roasted pork belly risotto. The pork belly could have been much crispier, as several of my dining companions weren't thrilled with the texture. The risotto on its own, however, was very good. Hats off to Chef Patric for cranking out upscale bar food and for being adventurous with some new dishes. The star of the night, in my opinion, was our server, Carl. He must have empty-glass ESP, as he was ALWAYS there with refills at the right time. Great service, a good wine selection, and above average comfort food makes this a good place to visit.

Just came from Max's Wine Bar in midtown. They opened yesterday, so I guess I'm one of the first few customers :-) I got the signature dish, "famous fried chicken with mashed potatoes and collard greens" and it more than lived up to its name. I rarely order fried chicken at restaurants cause I mean it's fried chicken and you can get that anywhere, but this was really really good. It's moist, crispy, and well seasoned. It's better than the nearby South City Kitchen which is also famous for fried chicken (which I thought was just mediocre). The chicken comes with a chipotle honey which is ok but I liked the chicken plain. Chef Jason personally delivered the honey to my table and it was nice to meet him. The mashed potatoes and collard greens were seasoned well and delicious! My friend got the pea and mint ravioli. He gave it two thumbs up. I'm not a pasta person but I tried it and liked it. We also split chocolate bread pudding for dessert. I'm not a big bread pudding person and it was a little dry for my taste or perhaps we just needed more ice cream. So it was just ok for me. I think that might have been the only dessert option.

Excellent service. Only had the Nacho Mama's Oysters, but was interesting and delicious. Nice wines available for retail or to enjoy in house. Love the decor and atmosphere, but the music was a little loud where we were located to maintain an effortless conversation within our group. Definitely plan to return.

Fried egg sandwich is over the top - with beautifully grilled bread, runny eggs, lettuce, tomato, smoky bacon and a garlicky aioli - first off - share this as it is HUGE! And oh so delish! We had an awesome bottle of Chardonnay from Santa Rita Hills - great white made French style - okay lobster Benedict was really fabulous with perfectly poached eggs - the tarragon was the perfect touch in the sauce! Michael was very friend! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be back!!

First ever visit ( Brunch) after seeing great reviews on Yelp. I had the crème brulee French toast - yummo, bf had the biscuits and gravy -meh( pricey for portion). I asked about the upcharge on the bottomless bellinis/mimosa, as we were stoked about having a few with our meal. I was told they no longer offer it, bummer. This was one of the reasons why I even picked this place for brunch. I asked the bartender/server for "drunken bread" as seen on many yelp reviews and was told the menu changed in the last 2 wks. He later told me , he just started 2 wks ago??!!??. Somehow I find that hard to believe. Sat at the bar where you can see the action in the kitchen, those guys work very hard, attention to detail is great given the fact that restaurant is not that large. Much improvement is needed in some areas. Brunch is for ppl who want to wind down and enjoy their Sundays. ATL has millions of places to enjoy relaxing brunch. Spent $50 roughly and it was lackluster - via portion size and absence of drink special( See above).

Went on Christmas Eve. So glad it was open. Really liked the small plates so we could try different things. The chicken sliders with honey chipotle were amazing and the bison sliders were flavorful. The nacho mamas oysters were unique and fun too. I'd go back again in the future.

A friend of mine have been hearing great things about this place and decided to try it out for brunch. I was a little worried at first given the area it was in and how there's hardly and accessible parking. However, the restaurant validates for 2 hours at a lot nearby so that was a definitely plus. Upon entering, the place doesn't look that big and I thought given the size, the wait would forever since it was a nice Sunday afternoon. But surprisingly we were seated immediately! My friend started out with a grapefruit mimosa and I had a hibiscus bellini. I was a little worried considering I didn't know what hibiscus was and my server really didn't have a good grasp of what it was either but she assured me it was good. So I took a chance and went for it and she was right! Whatever it is, it hit the spot, lol! Now on to the meal! Choosing something to eat was extremely hard considering EVERYTHING sounded so good! I settled on 2 scrambled eggs, pecan smoked bacon, jalapeno cheese grits, texas toast, and some hashbrown casserole on the side. Everything was delish! But I have to say the jalapeno grits are what really hit the spot! My friend ordered the crème brulee French Toast. The table to the right and to the left of us both stared at our plates in awe as they waited for theirs lol. Now my friend's a bonafide foodie. She exclaimed this was the best French toast she's ever had! She literally tried to eat everything else first and save the French toast for last it was so good, lol. Before we called it a day, I finished up with a grapefruit mimosa. I liked the hibiscus bellini better but it was still good. I think my only drawback of the whole thing was the tables being so close together. I swear both the table to the left and right of us felt so close, they might as well had been with us lol. I think one of the tables was feeling the same way because they ended up moving one table over, which was fine with me because their child staring at out food the entire time and practically sitting with me was a little too close for comfort. All in all though, I'd go back. I especially want to go back on a Saturday and try one of their themed brunches. If anyone makes it there before I do on a Saturday, let me know how you like it!

MAX's has really delicious food. It is often fun and creative, but is just plain good. I work nearby and have sampled their Friday brunch menu during lunchtime. But dinner is where they truly shine. I speak not just from experience here in Atlanta, but as a customer who has enjoyed meals at MAX's in Houston and Austin. I hope that Atlanta shows MAX's some love both for MAX's benefit and as an example to other great Texas restaurants that Atlantans love some punched up food. Check it out the next time you are craving a meal with some flavor. And it is worth mentioning that their wine (though not a large list) is often filled with some really good selections from makers you may or may not already know. Full disclosure, I once had a choclate desert at MAX's in Houston that almost brought be to tears (in a good way). And, yes, the fried chicken is off the chain.

UPDATE: I just got a call from the general manager. He was extraordinarily apologetic and pledged to address the issue with his staff. I'm willing to give them another try after all of this. I'll post another review after my next visit. Let me start out by saying that the food was great. Seriously. That fried chicken? The pan boracho? YUM! The wine selection was also decent, if on the pricey side. In terms of food or drink, this place is a winner. Things started going bad toward the end of the meal. It took a while to flag down the server to get our bill. After handing over my card, the server took 15+ minutes to come back. When he did, he told me that he lost my card. While he very briefly apologized, he promptly asked me for another card. Umm... what? "I just trusted you with one of my most important financial documents, you lost it, and now you want me to trust you with another one?," I thought to myself. As my dining partner was ill and needed to leave, he just quickly gave him another card, and I pledged to deal with the issue the next day. On the walk home, I got a call that my card had been found. I returned the next morning and got my card. The manager said just one word: "Sorry." and that was that. Now, I know mistakes happen. I can live with that, and be understanding. But the nonchalant attitude of the staff here to the loss of my debit card was alarming. A follow-up email to their corporate headquarters has so far gone unanswered and unreturned. Perhaps this "who cares if we lose a customers debit card?" attitude comes from the top down. I can't tell you not to visit this place, because the food is great. But I will beg that you pay in cash. Exact change, if possible.

pan boracho. good. savory bread pudding with mad cheese and some wine soaked in the bread with more crispy cheese on top. can't really go wrong here. fried chicken and waffle, (the waffle is a special and normally isn't on the menu). chicken was pretty good, nice texture but left me wanting more, could have been a bit juicer, and with more spice, the jalapeno flavor is very, very mild. waffle was meh, standard overly bready belgian. collards on the side were quite tasty, nice blend of vinegar flavors and spice, with good texture. for my rating, i don't feel the need to come back any time soon, but if suggested by someone else i'd come along. decent service.

Made reservations for a Valentine's Day brunch and birthday gathering for my husband. Seven members of our party of thirteen were immediately present. The set-up was claustrophobic, but we managed. The music playing inside was great! The server started off attentive, but immediately grew impatient and lackluster. The food was decent. However, it was nothing extraordinary about it. I ordered the red velvet pancakes, a side of scrambled eggs and veggie sausage patties. I was good and hungry! Shortly after, my waiter came to inform me that they were out of veggie sausage. Bummer! as there were no other meat options for the pescetarian in me (no fish/salmon options). The pancakes, albeit large and there were three of them, came with a limited amount of syrup. I had to ask for extra and it still ended up being dry to the point that I left a large portion as my "offering" to the trash receptacle gods. My husband and kids each had something different. The big hit seemed to be the fried chicken. I took their word for it. We left there feeling satisfied at finally having tried this spot since it came to the city (my cousin in Dallas, TX told me about its arrival as she is a fan in TX). But we ended up being ravenous again soon after leaving. Free parking upon validation, for two hours max! Anything beyond that is discounted (with validation), if not it could be a whopping $30! So don't forget to validate if you prefer parking inside garages vs. street meters.

I just had most amazing meal at MAX's Wine Dive! I'd been waiting for the restaurant to open and today was the big day! Awesome experience from start to finish! Great staff and even better food! The menu is comprised of MAX's Wine Dive Classics - food that can be found at all of their locations - and Chef Jason Hall's seasonal selections featuring locally sourced items. I started with Chef Jason's PigCorn - caramel corn, cayenne, Georgia peanuts and bacon. How was it, you ask? A delicious balance of sweet, salty and spice! It kinda tasted like Cracker Jack, but grown up and with bacon! MAX's Wine Dive is a great addition to Midtown and my first visit will NOT be my last! For my entrée, I went with MAX's Famous Southern Fried Chicken. It's jalapeño-buttermilk marinated chicken served with mashed potatoes, collard greens and Texas toast. Seriously, this was some of the best fried chicken that I've ever had! I love that MAX's fried chicken isn't rushed...it takes about 20 minutes n but the wait is totally worth it! If you're in Midtown or thinking about going to Midtown, I urge you to treat yourself to the deliciousness at MAX's Wine Dive! Oh and they serve brunch on Fridays, Saturdays AND Sundays!

Cool place to eat, food great and atmosphere is very relaxed. The jukebox is free and of course the wine list is long. The food is great and put together very well. Try the brussle sprouts

Great Brunch! The fried chicken was amazing with the collard greens and potatoes! The manager came by and told us the chicken would be a bit longer and offered us another prosecco...well appreciated and definitely worth the wait! Thanks for the great hospitality!

The atmosphere here is so not what is expected. Wine and dive bar don't usually come hand in hand, but it does at Max's Wine Dive. Jukebox playing some sick music, classy vibe while munching on fried chicken and sipping classy wine. Chef Patric has put together a great menu for the new winter season starting last week. Of course he has his classic fried chicken, which is the perfect combination of crispy, fragrant and sweet. Pair that with a glass of wine and you're good to go. I was here for an event so the service was on point, as Pat R., a fellow Yelper at the event noted as well. Every time my glass was nearing empty, someone was pouring me more wine, whether I wanted it or not!! Thank you for getting me nice and buzzed that night! I cannot complain. There were a few dishes introduced that night in addition to the fried chicken, such as the pork belly risotto and stuffed peppers. The stuffed peppers were delicious, I kept reaching for more. The flavors were unique and combined in a very interesting way. The risotto seemed to have more negative reviews, although I liked the flavors of all the parts individually, together was a little odd. Not a fan of pickled mushrooms, either, as much as I love pickles and I love mushrooms. I would love the chance to come back and try the regular menu sometimes. Parking in midtown is just such a pain...

The wine selection and atmosphere is great, but I was disappointed with the food. We ordered the Pan Borracho for our appetizer-it was a hot n cold dish. The crust was hot with melting cheese, but we had colder bites of the prosciutto. I wasn't expecting the texture- like a bread pudding. I ordered the Apple Cider Glazed Pork Chop, which was dry. The glazed allowed the pork chop to have a crust, but it was overdone to my liking. A friend of mine did order the Cracklin Chicken, which was VERY good!! Moist and flavorful.

Order the Shrimp & Grits. That is all I have to say. Order the Shrimp & Grits. Most amazing shrimp and grits I have EVER had. Service, slow, but very kind and funny. Wine selection is phenomenal. Just order the Shrimp & Grits!!!!

The food here was kind of average. Not bad, but not great. But there were other snafus that made me knock them down from a 4 to a 3. I initially ordered the crab cake brunch entree, but about ten minutes later, the server told me they were out of 'em... which i found particularly frustrating b/c i had had a hard time deciding what i wanted off the menu in the first place (not enough options that i wanted). So i decided to order the burger instead, which sounded good, but i wasn't impressed... although the toasted bun was really good. The next problem was that it took forever to get our food (at least 45 mins). I was getting a little "hangry" by the time the food came. We expressed our disappointment with the length of the wait for the food to the manager who came to check on us. (Glad she came to check on us without being asked.) She expressed regret that we had waited so long and comped our food 15%! Nice touch, manager lady! So for that i will bump the score back up to a 4. Customer service means a lot.

We came in without a reservation for brunch. Without a reservation, we had to sit at the bar. The bartender was friendly and service was good but the entire row of tables behind us remained empty the entire time we were there. We definitely would have preferred a table and didn't understand why they wouldn't seat us at table when they remained empty for an hour and a half. Highlight of the meal: $3 house mimosas. You can taste the bubbly and it doesn't taste like the cheap kind of bubbly. They were good. We split the bagel bites which included house cured salmon. This was my favorite dish, but not very filling. We also split the fried chicken and biscuits and the mexican frittata which were both average. I would come back for drinks at the bar but will skip dinner and and making the reservation.

Work close by and had lunch here yesterday with two girlfriends. We all had salads and waited an extraordinary long time for our meals to arrive. The steak on my salad was very undercooked and all three of us had stomach distress the rest of the afternoon. Sufficient to say our day consisted of countless trips to the restroom. Still waiting for a call from the manager. The only thing we ate in common was the salad dressing. Beware ! Manager called meals credited apologizes given . Update turns out the champagne salad dressing uses a raw egg...day two after lunch my girlfriend leaves work early vomiting and in a cold sweat.

Enjoyed the fried chicken and wine. I got there moscato and it was smooth and sweet. We kept ordering fried chicken. And must order the Brussels sprouts - even if u don't like them. Try it and it may change U! I would like to tell u that for lunch I had the fried chicken from watershed on peach tree. I enjoyed this one better. Great seasoning and not too salty. They have a great wine selection.

Came here finally after waiting a very long time... So many great looking options on the menu. And a long list of wines. I ordered the pig corn and the burger. B. A. D. The popcorn was cold, doused in caramel so much that you couldn't taste the bacon or the popcorn itself. The burger I ordered medium to medium well, and it came out over well done. Terrible. It looked like a frozen Patty and the toppings were minimal to say the least. It wasn't seasoned well if it was seasoned at all. Our waiter, Evie was very pleasant and helpful. I don't blame her for the bad burger, although she recommended it. I asked to speak to the chef so that I could speak to him about it but he wasn't in the house today, only the line chefs. My family ordered the chicken with macaroni and mashed potatoes, it was rather amazing! Fresh, fried to perfection, and oozing with flavor! Now I know to only order chicken and champagne... Why the hell not!?? Bottom line: if I'm walking in the neighborhood drinking, I wouldn't stop for the burger. Maybe the fried chicken. And I'd say hello to Evie. She's sweet.

I am writing this review in regards to the experience I just had today, 5/9/15. my little sister and our family attended brunch here around 11 am when they first opened to celebrate her graduation from Georgia State which was at 1 pm. there was 8 of us total. we were one of the first guests there, so we assumed this would be expeditious. BIG mistake. we didn't even receive our drinks until about 25 minutes into the order. the food FINALLY came around 12:30. while the food was particularly enjoyable, (which is why they are only getting ONE star), the service was TERRIBLE. to make matters worse, one of my sister's food had a hair in it. there was little remorse or understanding of our situation, after having told the waiter we were on a time crunch. this was our first time at this restaurant and definitely our last.

We hosted a group event here expecting 25-30 people. 35 people showed up! The venue didn't miss a beat. They were understanding, accommodating and most importantly still smiling! The venue, food, staff and true southern hospitality make this a superb place for a date, friends' night out and quite clearly, even for a big celebration. Excited to have Max's in the neighborhood. If you are looking for a great time with super easy planning, contact Holly @ Max's!! :)

I have been here twice, once for dinner and once for brunch. The dinner was good, but nothing special. We ate at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and helpful with her suggestions. For dinner I had the Pea and Mint Ravioli with their house red wine. My bf had the Fried Chicken. The ravioli was good but not great, and it was a small portion. My bf enjoyed the fried chicken. He also had the mashed potatoes and collard greens, and the collard greens were delicious and I proceeded to eat most of his helping. Their house red wine was delicious. For brunch we sat outside and ordered the sweet potato donuts as an appetizer, because our waiter talked us into it. Good thing he did, they were phenomenal! I had the "eggs any style" and jalapeno cheese grits with habanero salsa. Brunch was delicious. Eggs were great, but I could not stop eating the jalapeno cheese grits, they were very cheesy and not too spicy, which was fine because the salsa was very spicy and excellent mixed in with the grits and on top of my eggs. Brunch was far better than dinner, I would order that dish again. Our waiter was super friendly. I plan on bringing my mom soon so we can sample some different wines.

I was here for a friend's birthday dinner, and while the atmosphere was awesome, the food was just "ok". The menu was pretty limited, and for the most part, a la carte. I had the fried chicken sliders, and the were AMAZING! There was a spiced honey glaze on the chicken that made it AWESOME! The staff was GREAT! I would be willing to see what their brunch menu is like.

Good comfort food served by a warm staff. Mac n cheese rocked along with the roasted Brussel sprouts. Solid wine selection. They will open any bottle if you commit to two glasses. It provided me the opportunity to drink two glasses of a fantastic cab without springing for the whole bottle.

For the price, I expected a lot better. It really seems like this place is attempting to be the "Barcelona" of Midtown ( an excellent tapas and wine bar in Inman park yelp.com/biz/barcelona-a… ) The problem is, neither their service or their food is close to what Barcelona offers, and their prices are almost identical. I ordered the "Mexican Frittata" from their brunch menu, which claimed to be a blend of spicy chorizo, beans, egg, and avocado dressing. It tasted like 90% egg and bean, and 10% (at best) chorizo. The flavor just wasn't very good, and so I left it mostly unfinished. My server asked me if I would like it boxed, which I declined (cold, bad, Frittata doesn't sound appealing somehow) and then proceeded to hand me the check (which I hadn't asked for). Now, if I had been dining at Barcelona, the server would have asked me if I had an issue with the dish. To which I would have replied, "yes - It was largely flavorless". I imagine it would have been taken off the bill, or a replacement would have been in the cards. Sadly, this was not Barcelona. So I paid the (rather large) bill, and left. I hate to judge a restaurant by how it compares to another, rather than on its own merits, but in this case I think it is justified. When your cheapest wine is 10 bucks a glass, and each dish is 14 dollars, you are positioning yourself as a decidedly "up scale" wine bar. You need to have the service, food, and atmosphere to back it up. Based on my observations today, Max's Wine dive, does not.

We thought this place was right on the mark. First, the good points: Food. The food was quite good. We had the meatballs to start, the fried chicken and meatloaf to finish. The meatloaf in particular was really cute. It was a play off of the Hungry Man TV Dinners and came resplendent in it's own TV tray with separate food compartments. The food however, was a vast improvement on the TV dinner and was very good. All had a nice spicy kick and the meatloaf was moist with outstanding mashed potatoes. The fried chicken was also good, and up there with other southern offerings. The wine selection was quite good, better than most places in Midtown, particularly if you like bubbles. The servers were also very knowledgeable and the little extra about not having to have an entire bottle of wine if one had had been pre opened was a nice touch. Gives a person more chances to try different wines without committing to a full bottle. The service was also good. We had a person who was very keen on knowing when to pop by but there was also the water person ready to refill if the glass looked low. The only real distraction as the decor. The price point suggests that this is an upscale restaurant, and the food did not disappoint but we couldn't get over the 'bar feel' of the place versus an upscale restaurant. It could have been quaint and cozy just as it was if they created a better seat alignment, something like Barcelona but it was set up like any other eatery/bar type place. It kinda felt like you were in the bar the whole time instead of a restaurant. There was no real separation, and maybe that's what they are going for but seemed a touch disjointed. Again, food good. Service good. Three stars is due to price point and atmosphere. Overall we'd try again.

Lunch today was a disappointment - first visit, probably last visit. Lunch time they were not real busy. 4-5 tables when we arrived and mostly served. Three of us ordered the burger (which were good)-BUT it took almost 30 minutes to receive order (we had to ask for her to check-just a lot of visiting and chatting going on with the chef's), waitress never came back until bill time; and then we saw that they upcharged us $4.00 per person to add bacon on top of the $3.00 upcharges for cheese and grilled onions. My $15 burger (which online says $13) quickly jumped to $23 and change plus tip. WAY TOO MUCH. We are burger aficionados and we can go to the Burger Bar at the Four Seasons and always receive good, prompt service with incredible delights and extras and still only pay $12-$18 for our burger and sides, including bacon.

I love the concept of this chain and wanted to like Max's, but after two failed visits it's not likely. I came here for both dinner and brunch. Here are the take aways from my experiences: The staff is very friendly, but the service is terribly slow regardless of how busy or slow the restaurant is. The food is over priced and not executed well. At brunch, everything we ordered was cold except the home fries. (Restaurant was also empty, so there shouldn't have been an oversight.) There are tons of amazing restaurant choices in Atlanta, and unfortunately Max's doesn't pull its weight.

I went to this amazing place on Sunday for brunch and walked away very happy! The atmosphere was very nice; artwork surrounding the walls and flat screens at the bar...not to mention very friendly staff. It's in a great location, but of course it's in midtown so good luck parking. I was lucky to park on the street at the meter parking. I had the fried chicken, collard greens, and home fries. Although everything was amazing the home fries are more like hashbrowns, but they are still fantastic. Mimosas are $3 and well worth it. They aren't too weak and too strong; perfection! I wish they served poinsettia (champagne and cranberry juice), but the server said they don't have them...no biggie I just drank up on the $3 mimosas :-) I'll defiantly want to come back again and again. I love wine and since they are a wine bar, I plan to come back for that! Also, since I love to eat, I also want to try their dinner menu! Although it was cold, during spring I will return to sit outside! The establishment is somewhat small, but very intimate. This place is a MUST try!

I met two friends here during a weekend trip to Atlanta recently. It had just recently opened and we were all excited to give it a try. I got the signature dish--fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and collard greens. The chicken was tasty (not the best I've had, but good), and so were the greens. The service was excellent and so was the wine! I'll be back next time I'm in town.

I really want to like this place, but it just isn't doing it for me. Staff is nice, but service is super slow. I just paid $6 for my 2 cans of Diet Coke. I don't often complain about prices but we're in Midtown, not France. Get a fountain or at least don't charge me for the second one. I'll not have lunch there again, for that reason alone. Fried chicken is good, but not really any better than Publix, so I think next time I have that craving I'll save $12 and go to Publix. The side dishes I've had are all mediocre, and mostly cold. or undercooked.

The waiter, Michael, turned the experience around which started off bumpy. The food was not amazing. The cauliflower appetizer was very salty due to the kung pao sauce which was overly used. The tater tots were ok. The truffle oil was a surprise when found. I ordered the fried chicken. It was ok but doesn't live up to the recommendations. A sauce or something is needed. My friend got the cod. She exclaimed that Captain D's was better. O_O Michael was very nice though. If the bumps are straightened out this could be a good restaurant.

I was here once before for a beverage and was looking forward to breaking bread here. It was nice sitting outside on a Sunday as Spring arrives. I was torn between the fried chicken and something else. The waiter whole heartedly endorsed the fried chicken. He said "it's better than my grandmother's and I'm from Alabama." He guided me to the bubbles as the perfect compliment. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I was so so so disappointed in the chicken. It was flavorless. Even the doggie bag piece a day later didn't get any better. The mashed potatoes were also blah. I hope it was just an off night. I don't generally care for collards but they and the cava were the saving graces of my meal.

Went here for brunch for the first time and it was awesome! I had the fried chicken and potatoes and it was really good. My boyfriend had the red velvet pancakes and they were also very good. I've been to both the Houston and Austin locations, and I am SO happy Max's Wine Dive is here in Atlanta, too! The restaurant has a wonderful eclectic atmosphere and even better food. Great place with amazing staff. Savory bread pudding was amazing...they call it Drunk Bread. Fried chicken is their claim to fame and it didn't disappoint. Nice wine list, though sought always prefer a nice wine to be served at the correct temperature. Will go back just because the staff was sooo hospitable.

I am a photographer in town for an engagement shoot. I found this place on Yelp and thought it was perfect! It was lunch time on a Friday. I was alone so I sat at the bar. The bar was perfect and comfortable I love a well designed bar you can actually sit at! The bar tender Patrick was very friendly, offered great service! Made my experience comfortable! Everything he recommended I got! I sat across from the kitchen and watched the chefs prepare, cook and finish the plates! It was clean, they were very professional and really seemed to take pride in the delivery of the food! I love the atmosphere, the warm industrial, bar feel along with some fried chicken and a good glass of wine was a perfect combo! I had not planned on dessert as I was Stuffed! But this little pop up advertisement featuring the creme brûlée french toast was taunting me all through lunch! So Patrick ordered me a half plate! Ummm seriously awesome! Highly recommended!

After reading some of the reviews here on Yelp, I almost swept this place under the rug. I'm SO glad we decided to give it a try!! It says they're a 'dive' and I can see where they're going with that. Being a brand new place, it's going to take some time to show some wear and tear that I imagine with the term dive. The celebrity mugshots on the wall are hilarious. The wall is also lined with Lego art, and our server told us they display a different local artist every few months. Winning. So on to the rest. The hostess was very pleasant and sat us right away, despite not having a reservation on Friday night. The bar was pretty full, so we opted for a high top table right in the middle. The hostess noticed it was a little wobbly and didn't hesitate to get it stabilized. Water came to the table quickly, and our server was right behind to navigate the menu for us. Mac n cheese was amazing! Wine list - stellar. Cracklin' Chicken - enough said. The Sweetwater Georgia Brown Gravy could make road kill taste delicious, but the chicken was perfectly seasoned, colorful carrots and potato wedges perfectly cooked, and - it was user friendly to eat, despite being bone-in chicken. I was a little disappointed that they only had one dessert option, but that was quickly redeemed when the manager brought a sample of dessert wine with the banana bread pudding. Twist my arm. My only real complaint is that they don't have valet parking. It's Atlanta, so that's pretty much a must-have. They do, however, validate parking. Too bad we parked in the wrong building. Our server mentioned that they do brunch on the weekend, and we'll definitely be back to give it a try. If brunch is half as good as dinner, they've got new regulars.

Good: The food is very good. Everyone was very pleased with the way their food tasted. I would say the portions are a bit on the smaller side. OK: The prices seem to be a bit on the slightly higher side. A burger was $16 and scallops were $28. You can judge the pricing for yourself. Service: Our waitress was nice, but somehow our order got lost in the system and we didn't receive our main course for 40+ minutes. We had to bring it to their attention. The kitchen was done with their work, so we think they forgot our order. I will say they gave us 1/2 off our bill, so that was nice. Food Options: You certainly will get choices, but there are very few healthy choices (Maybe 2). Overall: I will visit again. The food is very good. I am sure they will get the glitches out of there service and then this place will be great. However, our experience could have been much better. This is an established restaurant, so it was a surprise that they missed so badly on the service.

WOW! As soon as I saw the menu, I was sad I ate before I arrived, the food menu was as diverse as the wine menu and the food coming from the kitchen looked great. Definitely will be returning to try the food. The atmosphere is laid back, if you sit at the bar you can see almost the entire kitchen operation. The server was also very knowledgable about wine, so when I ventured out from the typical he was able to provide great recommendations based on my preferences. Great place if you love wine but not all the pretentiousness that can come with wine. Will return but this time it will be on an empty stomach!!

Well. Let's just say that this is the most deliciously unorganized restaurant in Atlanta. I USED to come here religiously after church on Sundays for their amazing Creme brûlée French toast. When I say Jesus himself rose from the dead and headed straight to Maxs Wine Dive to dip the French toast in the Creme brûlée batter himself....that's how good it is. Was. The service, not so divine. Let me give a play by play. My babe and I got seated at 3:35. We waited until 3:55 before he decided to ask the manager why our server never came back to take our order. Then we asked another server where our waiter was and that we were ready to order. All this little expletive could do was shrug his shoulder and say sorry I'm sure she'll be back soon. Uhhhhh could you go get her??? Meanwhile I just wrote our order on a piece of paper and gave it to the kitchen bc I knew what we wanted before we eve got seated and was hungry. Oh I failed to mention that there were 9 servers on the floor and about 9 parties seated in the restaurant TOTAL....3 of which were still twiddling our thumbs waiting to have our orders taken. Needless to say babe and I will be frequenting Murphy's for brunch from now on. Unless Max's idle yet fully staffed crew gets to working instead of wandering around like a bunch of lost ducks.

Came in for brunch. Stumbled across this new place when dining across the street. When checking open table, they popped up and it was a no brained to try. The brunch burger with the optional additions was so incredibly delicious. One of the better burgers we've had in awhile. The fries actually taste fresh cut and fried. The fried egg sandwich was quite large with 3 eggs but very good. I would love to try the fried chicken next time. Patrick, our server, was so incredibly friendly and made the experience even more wonderful. We will be back. :)

What a cute fun place to enjoy brunch or some good wine. They also have beer if you aren't a wine lover. Love the ambiance. Just stopped in for a drink but would love Togo back for brunch soon. I frequent as many decent places reviewed on Yelp as I can when in town. Unfortunately, this place was average at best. I ordered the steak frites which was a thin piece of NY strip under seasoned and a little chewy. Not a good quality of beef and smothered in a heavy butter blue cheese concoction. The baked potato spears were pretty decent though, I ate them and tried to saw through the beef, in the dark, with Michael Jackson blaring loud enough that the bartender could barely hear my cry for salt..

Last night was my first time visiting Max's Wine Dive and I was very disappointed in the food and service. The location is cute with the high tops, open kitchen and logo shirts but immediately upon arriving the visit quickly took a bad turn. The food took over 40 min to arrive to our table of 2 with 11 people in the restaurant. We were the only party eating at this time but it was obvious by looking into the open kitchen concept that our ticket had been over looked by the chefs. The manager at that time came over with an excuse regarding why the food was taking so long instead of an apology. My food finally came only to find out that it was under cooked. The chicken that they are supposed to be known for was mediocre fried chicken for the amount of time it took to "cook" per the managers excuse. The thigh was still red (bloody). The collard greens were salty and the Mac and cheese was ok.

Visited the newly opened restaurant because I am a fan of the location in Houston. Can't say I'm a huge fan of this particular one. We had the fried oyster chip appetizer and the fried chicken. Service was extremely slow, although the place was nearly empty. The food was just okay. Nothing to write home about. One thing I like about the Houston location is that on Sunday's there is a chef's special of fried lobster. it's amazing. This location does not have that. Although I haven't tried it here, the fried egg sandwich I had at the Houston location (also served here) is amazing. Side note to the non-wine drinkers - This listing shows they have a full bar, however, they do not.

As I read through the reviews here, it's apparent that many people are not familiar with the "brand" itself. Max's is a Texas-based boutique and if you haven't been there before, it's likely you will not understand the ambiance and food menu options so be open minded when you first go. Max's is slowly expanding and I am excited that they have finally made it to Atlanta since I just moved here. Each location's menu is unique. I recently dined here with my work team of about 10 on Wednesday night and had a very positive experience throughout. We made reservations in advance and the table was set up for us upon arrival. Reservations were easy to make. It was empty around 6:00 but began filling up around 8:00. When we arrived, I had shared with the server that I was familiar with the food at the Houston location and requested a few dishes that they did not have on their menu. The chef gladly accepted the challenge to serve up some of my favorites. The food was hot when it arrived and with a party of 10 and a variety of requests coming from everyone our server did an awesome job at keeping a constant flow of food and beverages for our 3 1/2 hour stay. I appreciate his attentiveness and determination to ensure our dining experience was a good one. Later in the evening, the chef came to introduce himself and ask if the food met my expectations. I truly appreciate it when chefs and managers on duty do this - being new in Atlanta they've got to feel out what the customers want so if you've had a bad experience, I would suggest you give it another shot. One thing that I would like to see them do that I think would help attract more people and cater to people looking for a quick wine stop after work is to offer a special happy hour menu consisting of a few small dishes like Truffle Fries, Wings (fried the same way their famous chicken is) and complementary champagnes/wines. I will definitely be back to see how they evolve!

I have been here numerous times since it opened, and every visit is a brand new and fun experience. To often in Atlanta service is put on the back burner NOT HERE! You will always enjoy yourself and that is before you even taste the food or get into their wonderful wine list.

This place is amazing!! I definitely understand why the fried chicken is famous. I highly recommend the collards, mashed potatoes, and max 'n cheese. I will definitely be back for sunday brunch.

Have been waiting over 45 minutes AFTER our reservation time... Service sucks! Guess we won't be trying the food!

I recently went to Max's for Sunday brunch. My husband had been to one in Texas and raved about it so we gave it a try with some friends who were in town visiting. I got the fried egg sandwich, it was very good, but the standout was the fried chicken. It was probably the best friend chicken I've ever had, especially with the chipotle honey sauce. I had a bite of my husband's and another bite, and then some of my friend's and will definitely be going back! Highly recommend going and ordering the fried chicken!

Overall: This is a quaint wine bar with great food and a large selection of wines, however the service is poor. PRICE: $$ - $$$ Relatively expensive (~$20-30 per entree and $10-15 per glass of wine) for Southern cuisine and "bar food," but average prices for an upscale chain restaurant. FOOD: 4 (Yelp) Stars The food was great. Of course, we tried the "famous" fried chicken and it was great. The entree comes with three pieces (leg, thigh, breast) and additional pieces are $3/$5 (dark/white meat). If you are splitting the meal, I would strongly suggest getting the add'l breast for $5 since you get significantly more meat with the boneless breasts. Sides were excellent, and large-plate presentation was commendable. ATMOSPHERE: 3 (Yelp) Stars Design of the location is narrower than expected, with a unique wine shelf upon first entering. We visited on a Sunday evening, so the restaurant was not crowded. The atmosphere is not large enough to have private conversations but not intimate enough to have local-restaurant feel. I am sure that on evenings that the restaurant fills up the atmosphere is great. SERVICE: 0 (Yelp) Stars Probably one of the worst service experiences at a restaurant I have had in a long time. For having opened recently, one would expect this restaurant should be doing everything possible to court loyal customers. Unfortunately, this was not the case. With only ~6 other tables occupied at a time, it took prolonged periods of time to be assisted by servers. For example, after asking for the bill it took 20 minutes for the payment to be collected. The kitchen is open, so customers can see when employees are doing nothing--which was quite frequently since the staff-to-customer ratio was greater than 1:1. Food prep took close to 45 minutes just to receive meals (claiming the "famous" fried chicken takes 30+ min to cook). Unfortunately, since flagship meals takes this long to prepare and the service is poor, this is a place to avoid in Midtown.

We made a reservation for 8:30pm for 4 and it took an hour to get our table. However, the manager was great and bought us a round of champagne. Our server was great and the food was amazing. Their fried chicken is a must!

My wife & I went on opening day. The atmosphere was very cool and hip in the same way as Pulp Fiction was to cinema and the arts. We went on the opening day so I'll be gentle. My first impression was that this would be a fabulous spot for the Midtown Atlantan or visitors who want the Manhattan experience without having to actually going to the Meat Packing district of NYC. Crescent Avenue has made an amazing transformation from a few years ago for the better in my opinion. Max's is a hot spot that is a great addition to the area and will appeal to the young, hipster crowd demographic. It is the perfect place to start your evening of exploring Crescent Avenue dance clubs.

I was in town for a convention and we wanted some wine and southern food. This place was so good. Service was great and food was amazing. I would recommend this place to all my friends who come into town.

Awesome mid-town location. i remember when this end of Crescent was a barren lonely wasteland after dark. The food...two orders of the fried chicken for my two dinner guests and I had the burger. At $16 for a burger and $1 extra for cheese, I had high expectations. My expectations were dashed when the plate hit the table. My burger came open face and just did not look right. I surmised that it would taste better than it looked, especially since I opted for brie cheese on top. I am sad to say this is the worst burger I have had in ages. It was described on the menu as a mix of brisket, chuck, and rib meat. Having served in the military, I had my share of what the military called "MREs" or meals ready to eat. They are meant to feed a soldier in difficult situations without cooking and be carried for days on end and they last for a few years unopened. Some of the meals had packets of dehydrated meat that once reconstituted with water, it actually became a weird meat dish. Was not a fan. And that what this burger reminded me of. It had a sponge like texture and consistency of spam. I though some mayo might help it out, but alas they only had garlic aoli (really) which tasted like a horseradish disaster. For $17, they Can and Must do better. Sorry to be so harsh, but, I would prefer a Krystal or just any fast food burger to this terrible burger. With the scores of ATL restaurants serving a good burger these days for a lot less cost than this, I was a little put out. But, then again, many will get caught up in the vibe of the place and say the burger was so so good....yada yada yada! But, on a good note the fries that came with it were quite good and the fried chicken dishes were not bad though not overly impressive. I give the burger one star and overall 3 stars though a 2 was deserved because I liked the decor, my pretty waitress, and the location, And the Irish pub across the street had nice Guiness which got the taste of this burger out of my mouth....now if I could only get the memory taken away!

Max's wine dive is fantastic! My husband and I used to go to the Austin location frequently. We had dinner with friends tonight and were not disappointed! The fried chicken, collars greens, and max n cheese were fantastic. We tried a few new wines, and even though they do not carry the same as the Austin location, we were impressed! Max's is such a great addition to Midtown!

Let me start by saying the have $3 mimosas all weekend. I would go back just for that. I ordered the chicken wings with hoe cakes and it was awesome! My husband got the fried chicken and loved it too... Huge portions too. Put servers was great and the experience overall was perfect. We will be back very soon.

The positives for this Austin based chain are many. For example a decent glass of wine can be had in Midtown for 7 dollars here. Also they feature local chef Jason's seasonal menu on the right side of the menu (the left is dedicated to the standard offerings at all the Max's). I tried to order mostly from the local side and quite enjoyed most of it. A creative dish of brussel sprouts over potato latkes was quite good despite the potato pancakes being overly crisp and greasy. The very pretty beet salad could have been better with more cheese and dressing instead of the skimpy amounts served. The only true loser (and we almost should have sent back) was the broccoli and cheese casserole. The cheese sauce was broken (reheated too many times?) with a sour flavor and over cooked veggies, I believe they were roasted first then baked in the casserole. I think once the restaurant gets more settled and up to stride most of these issues will be fixed (or new dishes featured). Perhaps another small complaint: It isn't much of a dive, even with its CD jukebox. It also isn't that nice either. The decor is quite bland and generic. The huge open window to the action in the kitchen is interesting to look at, but after awhile the bright fluorescent lighting grows tiresome as it lights up the entire restaurant. I want to sip wine in a darker room please. It will be interesting to see if this beer and wine only concept can keep up with fully licensed neighboring places surrounding it. After all this is a cocktail town.

Staff (Heather, and Sous chef, Kojahra) were amazing! Very personable and sweet! That fried chicken tho, good God! You have to try it! They also have $3 mimosas at brunch if ya needed that extra inspiration!

I've been to Max's twice so far since they opened recently. The food and wine were both delicious!! On my first visit I tried the signature dish of fried chicken and mashed potatoes and it definitely lived up to its reputation. The second visit I tried a dish from Chef Jason's local menu and it was even better! I had a sampling of other dishes from the local side that my friends ordered and everything was delectable. Our server was very knowledgeable about wine pairings with the individual entrees and service was great. Will definitely be back!

Incredible. The food was perfect and the sevice was great. You must try the chicken, huge portions and very juicy. I hear the brunch is excellent too. It looks like a great place to relax and the bar and have a few drinks watching a game. Plus you can buy wine to go! My wife and i will be going back soon. Great job.

Ridiculous wine prices. They sell you on a glass of wine without disclosing the price, which is outrageous to begin with. Avoid

Service was slow and problematic. I ordered a moscato and ended up with a bubbly prosecco. When I asked if it was moscato, I was told yes. Then later when asked if I didn't like my "prosecco" I finally got to the bottom of the problem. The food was ok and seemed a bit overpriced. It was so uneventful, I will not go into specifics. My friends and I love to try different desserts and that is definitely lacking here. The music was also extremely loud... to the point of distracting us from conversation and having problems speaking with our server when he did come around.

Yelp recommendation that turned out really good. We were in town for Prog Power, and wanted brunch close to the hotel. This is right around the corner from the Mariott. $3 mimosas at brunch are yes in my book. We ordered the bagel bites as a starter which came out quickly and were tasty (a little too much shallot for my taste, but good nonetheless) then my friends ordered the eggs breakfast place and I had the creme brulee french toast. I did NOT want to share my french toast because it was THAT GOOD. With the mimosa, absolutely heavenly! Docked 1 star because it took forever for us to get our food (40 minutes between bagel bites and the plates). We didn't mind since we weren't in a hurry and sipping mimosas was nice, but we were hungry and it took a while. I know they're newer to midtown, so hopefully they'll work those kitchen kinks out. We will be back next time we're in Atlanta!

Went to a Max's in San Antonio and was excited to see one opening in Atlanta. The service was great. Our waiter was nice, funny, and quick. I am often disappointed with how wait staff treat people in Atlanta, so this was a great treat. The food...fried chicken. That is it. All you need to know. It is awesome. The atmosphere is laid back and the wine is great too. It's a little pricey, but you are in the heart of the city, so what do you expect.

I ordered the burger and was going to add cheese, but it was nearing closing time and they only had a couple of cheese options, none of which appealed to me. I also like my burgers plain - so no ketchup, mustard, pickle, onion, etc. So without the cheese, I knew it was going to be a pretty "blah" burger. I did add bacon to jazz it up a bit, but was less than excited about my meal. However, it ended up being one of the best burgers I have ever had. Cooked perfectly, juicy and full of flavor, even with no toppings other than bacon.
