Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

This is a cozy restaurant with a smallish menu and quality food. The front dining area is a little small but the tables don't feel squished together (not sure if there is another dining area or not). The stuffed chairs are comfy but you do end up a little lower to the table than normal. This was my first time eating scungilli (sea snail / conch) and it was great! Very tasty, not too chewy and the sauce was flavorful. One of us ordered the veal cutlet and it was massive, easily 2 dinners worth. The other portion sizes were relatively large as well, which makes the prices (~$20/entree on avg) a good value. The wait staff was pleasant, though not the fastest in the world. Once we ordered the food came out in a reasonable amount of time and we all got our entrees at the same time.

Without a doubt, the best Italian food Ive had in the new world. A quaint family atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable service, and food that I kept going back for make this place a must-visit in Sarasota. If you think Olive Garden or Carrabba's are good Italian, this place will shatter your preconceptions of what Italian food should be.

Great Italian food, warm, friendly atmosphere. Lovely background singer on Thursdays and evey other Saturday. A must in Sarasota!

Great Italian! Wonderful hostess/owner took good care of us. We had an 11 and 15 year old with us and had no issues - only great service and a really nice meal. This is not an overly casual toddler friendly atmosphere. This is a wonderful restaurant with Frank Sinatra music, dim lights and great wine/food/conversation (hard to believe it is in a strip mall).

Everyone has an opinion on their favorite Italian restaurant in every town USA. Sarasota has its own with Solorzanos.... I should not have even typed this review since its is a hidden gem. Without any advertising at all, this place is hard to get a seat at during peak times. Who wants to eat at Carrabbas ? Not me....... Trust me on this one !!!

I'll cut to the chase. I'm not impressed. I love good italian food, and I love a fun, happening environment. Solorzanos really tries to do both, but falls short. The decor is an overload of Italian stereotype, including the montage of fictional gangsters, ranging from the Godfather to Tony Soprano. The food felt equally canned. My appetizer of roasted peppers and artichokes was case in point. My lasagne as a main course tasted as if it was cooked the night before and let to sit until needed. The top noodle was so tough, it bordered on inedible. The flavors were ok, but nothing special. There are much better Italian places in Sarasota. Pass on this one.

It was a little meh. It's right by our house and since Broccolini closed down we were ready to try another Italian place. We knew it was risky to compare. So we didn't. But we won't be back. I loved the ambiance, lighting, decor, music. It's small and cozy but I think trying a little too hard to be fancy. I usually don't feel I'm being judged for being young but I got a hint of that here. We got seated in the table right near the kitchen, in the corner with the owners family photos. There was one that was pretty entertaining actually. It wasn't busy when we arrived but by the time we were leaving it was full. It was just the owner with a couple serving assistants and as she was busy with all her new tables that she was spending a lot of time talking with, we waited and waited and waited for our check. We got a rushed goodbye and it felt a little like she put us on the last priority because our check total wasn't very high. In comparison with the way she spoke to all the other, much older, guests, she wasn't very friendly toward us. Service aside, food was simply ok. My gnocchi was not good. My boyfriends seafood pasta was great according to him. Salad and bread were decent. The selection was limited for both food and wine. I don't ask for a whole book of selections but as a vegetarian I get a little pissed when I've only got one or two options. Especially since its Italian! It's typically something I wouldn't have a problem with. In the future well stick to the place just down the street owned by real Italians. Being from NJ and liking Sinatra doesn't make you an expert on Italian cuisine. Too bad we couldn't combine their decor and atmosphere with the other places service and food quality.

Amazing authentic Italian restaurant. Small little place but very homey and family-run. Good wine selection, delicious focaccia and herbed oil. House salad and chicken soup were both great portions for reasonable prices. My veal Parmesan was as good as I've had anywhere, and the sauce was exactly what you'd expect from a family Italian restaurant. Owner was very attentive and fun. We will definitely come back here!!

We called, We went, We Ate ! It was sooooooo Gooooooood ! I went traditional Meatballs and Past, the wife got the Chicken Picata. Big plates of freshly made Italian dishes..the way we used to have them during our years living in Jersey. My red sauce ( fresh fresh with chunks of tomato, seasoned perfectly, pasta, wow, what a difference, hey served with a big spoon for swirling it around my fork ! We started out with an antipasta appetizer on a bed of greens, Huge portion. The owners Franka and Marco spent time with us talkin'..ya know ! Their son's run the Pizza places in town, this place in Gulf Gate ( On Superior), no Pizza....great dinners. I can't wait to eat my left overs tomorrow ! Place decorated like REAL Italian places in Jersy/New York. Ambiance a sure thing not stuffy either, They treated us like family..We'll be back for sure. I'll go back to make sure, so 5 stars may be in the near future for my rating of this resturant.

What a hidden gem! The restaurant is a bit small yet cozy. The menu offers small selections but they all are great delicious options. The hostess is so lovely, friendly and super accommodating. Give them a try!!

Best kept secret in Sarasota! Solorzanos is the best Italian food you will have in a long time! Everything is fabulous and the Solorzano family makes you feel at home. Because of their limited days and space, you almost always need a reservation. Definitely do yourself a favor and come here for dinner!

My family enjoys Italian food and we love Dolce Italia in the Gulf Gate area. We attempted to go there last night, but it was closed. We knew Solorzano's Italian Restaurant is in the Gulf Gate area as well and the reviews on Yelp seemed decent, so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself is cute and the staff is friendly. I was concerned immediately because it was 7:00 on a Friday night and there was only one other table seated. We ordered a tomato and mozzarella salad which was fine; kind of hard to mess that up. Although, while we were eating, the waitress/hostess/possible owner was eating and drinking wine at the bar area. I had ordered the chicken lasagna special, my husband ordered the chicken parm and my daughter ordered pasta with butter. When the dinners came out and we began to eat, you could tell the meals had been microwaved. The chicken was all dark meat and the entire meal tasted old and like it had an off taste from being in a refrigerator. In my second bite, I bit into gristle and could not eat any more. My husband's pasta was hard and discolored indicating that too was heated in the microwave and the chicken tasted old and chewy. The entrees weren't even cooked through. Even the pasta with butter for our daughter had an odd taste to it. I was extremely disappointed with the meals and would definitely not recommend this restaurant at all. If you want authentic, fresh Italian food, go to Dolce Italia.

Solorzano's is quite a gem. The menu is rather small, however everything on it is so well executed that it's really no matter. One area that will really hit home for any Italian, is the fact that you truly are treated as though you're nothing short of family and by the time you leave you damn near are! Call ahead in the busy season because its a small place with a high demand. A definite must if you're in the area! The family also owns a pizza place that goes by the same name and carries their same high quality standards. Thanks for an awesome couple of meals (My Fiancés family and i went twice on our vacation) and we'll see you in april.

This is by far the BEST Italian restaurant I have been to. Last night was my third time there and once again the meal was outstanding, the service was great, and the entertainment was perfect. I had the eggplant parmesean and my sister got the lasagna. Both excellent! I could have made a meal just out of the amazing bread and olive oil. Went on a Thursday night to listen to Sheryn sing. The owners are so nice and accommodating. Carlos came out of the kitchen to sing a couple of songs and his voice was incredible! Recommend reservations because it is small and quaint.

This is a review of Solorzano's Italian Restaurant, not Solorzano's Pizzeria which is nearby. Everyone in my party ordered a different pasta, and each of them was cooked to perfection. I had stuffed shells that were the perfect "al dente" - slightly undercooked to keep the spring and texture in the noodle. Perfectly seasoned, with crispy ham on the side and a sweet spinach and cheese filling. The wine list was well curated and had a lot of helpful descriptions, the knowledgeable hostess was able to answer some really specific questions about the wines from the Italian guy in my group. Each person ordered a different one and all were happy with their choices. When you walk in, don't be scared away by the opera music and somewhat cheesy decor... these people aren't just putting on a show to make you think they're old school Italians. They walk the walk, they speak Italian to each other and really know how to cook a mean pasta, and everything from the wine to the balsamic vinegar was delicious. It was one of those meals where you feel like your body absorbed every last nutrient from the food. I'll warn you though, once you go here, you may find yourself getting seriously critical of the other Italian places in Sarasota.

High hopes were crushed when we were ungraciously met by hostess/waitress/maybe owner. Without a reservation, we felt as if we intruded on the almost empty restaurant! One other table was occupied. We were tucked into a corner like an interference. But the table was set nice, linen tablecloth, great music, two fresh roses on every table, and pleasant thoughts returned. But then...we were served old, flat, nasty wine...not once, but twice! So the wine was returned and we drank mineral water instead. We had a nice fresh salad. But then...when we asked to share stuffed shells, the lady that seated us and brought the nasty wine said there would not be enough food in our $20 stuffed shells meal. We opted to take that chance anyways. When the four shells arrived, they were obviously microwaved with hot spots. There was plenty of c- grade food! Limited menu of all categories. Very limited wine choices unless you want a full bottle. The rest of the wait staff that took over was attentive and pleasant. Done with this place! Don't bother wasting a table on us! We won't be back.

Excellent, unique Italian dining experience. Small restaurant, family owned and run. Menu is not your typical Italian food, and your server will gladly recommend based your cravings. If you want authentic Italian food, this is a great place to dine. Tablecloth, unique decor, semi-formal attire will suit, but not required. Call ahead on weekends to guarantee a table as its a small restaurant with less than 10 tables and a few bar stools.

We had a fabulous time!! Eight of us enjoyed a perfect time. I felt like I was back in New York love the intimate setting. They welcomed us as family into their home. The food is authentic and generous! The owners wine knowledge guided us to excellent wine pairings with each dish. Across the table there we sampled a wide variety of the menu I enjoyed the osso buco so tender and flavorful. We are looking forward to returning soon.

We were visiting Siesta Key the past week and had terrible experiences at local restaurants on the "Key". So we decided to seek out local family owned restaurants. We found Solorzanos on Yelp and based on reviews we decided to give it a try and we were not let down!! It was a bit fancier then expected and a sign said proper attire required but we were welcomed without problem in our casual vacation attire! We loved the greetings we received and the food was delicious!! If we lived in the area this is a place we would return to on a regular basis!! Call ahead for a reservation just to be safe! Enjoy!!
