We have been ordering (to-go) from filipo's for quite some time. Their pizza is absolutely phenomenal! The sauce has a unique, rich flavor unlike your run of the mill dominoes heartburn juice. We ate in for the first time and the staff was highly attentive and caring. Our server was very caring and sweet. We will definitely return.

Disgusting. Something must have changed here since the last time I was here. Place was dirty, bathrooms were atrocious. Sunday evening at 6:30 pm. Our waitress was training ALL the other staff and she said she had only been there three weeks. My guess is the entire staff must have walked out. Seven in our party. Took forever to get first round of drinks, and there were only 6 other people in the place. We ordered appetizers of two orders of calamari and one bruschetta. The bruschetta came out but no calamari. After 10 mins we asked about them and the waitress checked the kitchen and they claimed they never got the order (b.s. As it was all in the computer just fine). 10 minutes later they start bringing out our mains. Two ordered a pizza to share, the rest ordered pasta. The pasta all came out but not the pizza. Waitress told us it will be right up. (Again, only 6 other people in the place). After another five mins she went to check on it, the kitchen claimed it was never ordered. She drug them over and showed them the computer, then he admitted he threw the ticket away. We asked to talk to the manager and he would not come over. The waitress told us the manager told the cook to apologize to us, which never happened, and we again asked to see the manager. He would not come over, he started hiding. My wife went after him hiding out back and he claimed he was too busy (too busy hiding evidently). We just wanted to tell him how there is a terrible communication problem in their kitchen, and the staff is all bickering with each other in front of everyone ( it is an open kitchen). Obvious the problems start with management. Disgusting, no concept of customer service, horrible management, and untrained incompetent staff. Go anywhere else and it will be better.

I have been to Filippo's a few times and have always enjoyed the food and great service. Last visit I ordered the Penne Ala Vodka which was awesome. My daughter had a small cheese pizza which was cooked perfectly. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wish they gave you a small salad with your entree instead of having to pay extra for it. The waitress was very attentive and very nice. We will definitely be going back.

Went there last night with four adults and two kids. It was an absolute disaster. Two of us ordered a calzone and a stromboli and we were informed that it didn't come with tomato sauce which was extra. Its like ordering spaghetti and meatballs and getting no tomato sauce. Also a side salad was extra. My wife ordered an antipasto which came so spicy that she could barely eat it. The dressing that came with it looked like sludge. She asked for oil and vinegar and was given an almost empty bottle of oil. Her stomach was upset all night. The pizza that was ordered came after everything else was delivered and mostly eaten. We tried to cancel it but told it was almost ready. We were eventually comped for it. When it came it was not a very good pizza. One of the party showed a coupon on YELP for a free glass of wine. The waitress told us that no one in the restaurant knew anything about it and no manager was on duty. The bill came with a 15% tip added on. Nothing on the menu said anything about it. We scratched the tip off. They should pay us for eating there. There also seemed to be a gasoline smell when walking to our table.

Eaten here many many times. Only had one blasé experience with the Chicken. The breasts they use are not fat plump Tyson food quality. Any traditional Italian menu item is a slam dunks. Calzones are HugE. 2 people could definitely split. Pizza is good. Their sauce is really savory. Not too sweet with just enough spice. I ordered baked ziti tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now having said that this is not a 3 star restaurant. This is a pizzeria and as such don't expect to have a maitre d and full wait staff to prance at the snap of your wrist. App, 2 entrees $40

Some of the best thin crust pizza around! Portions on the pasta dishes are huge. Whenever I order a pizza, I tell them to make sure the crust is well done or crispy and I have yet to be disappointed.

Quick summary: - Terrible service, - Mediocre to average food, - They wouldn't honor a Yelp Check-in offer because no one at the restaurant was aware of it, even though we showed it to them (are you reading this Yelp?), - I ordered a calzone and was told it was an extra $1 charge for some marinara sauce (is it me, or doesn't everyone on the planet serve calzones with sauce?). - We had a salad and asked for the vinaigrette on the side, and I'm glad we did - it looked and tasted more like mayonnaise than a vinaigrette. We ended up eating the salad with a little oil and vinegar. - They forgot to put in an order and it came out very late, and - They automatically charged us gratuity for a family of 6 - even though there is no mention of it on the menu. The one good thing they did was comp us the pizza that came out 15 minutes late. Given the problems we had, we weren't going to leave much of a tip. When we wrote on the receipt that we weren't authorizing their automatic tip, they charged us anyways. Now I have to dispute it with my credit card. The moral of the story is....wait, there is no moral. Just don't go here.

Stay the hell away. This was by far the worst restaurant experience I have had since I moved here three years ago. I came once when I had just moved, and that was terrible. I went back recently because it was Saturday night and Outback was crammed. I thought, "give it another try." What a mistake. The hostess told me it would be a 10 minute wait which lasted 20, even though there was at least as many tables unoccupied. Sit people down and give them bread and water, for god's sake. The waitresses were a caricature of bad service. They didn't know what entrees came with what pasta choices, and there were two menus which didn't make any sense. Maybe if the management wasn't sitting at the bar having their own dinners, they could have helped their customers get theirs. Dont. Ever. Go. Here. Someone please come along with enough money to buy this place and shut it down.

Three stars but by no means a bad review. I went on a busy Saturday night. It's a neighborhood pizza restaurant and I wasn't expecting a spectacular meal. My only complaint was that it was very hot inside the restaurant. My server was very attentive and friendly despite the dining room being packed and the restaurant was seemingly short-staffed. I ordered chicken Parmesan, which I figured would be a decent yardstick by which to figure out the quality of the food there. It was hot, good portion size, and quality white meat chicken breast. I would go back there every once in a while.

Used to love this place but lately too many inconsistencies. They are going on my 'banned' list. Too many other places to choose from. The pizza in my opinion was under cooked (I tasted my husbands). The crust was limp, yeasty tasting bread like crust. I ordered a side salad with the house dressing. I don't know what was going on with the dressing but it was kind of congealed. I said something to the server like isn't it a oil and vinegar based dressing and she said if you get it like that it means it's bad (huh???). I ordered spaghetti and meat sauce. I had maybe 12 strands of spaghetti with two cups of sauce dumped over the top. The meat sauce is very good but jeepers I could have eaten it with a spoon. Will go to Ferraro's in downtown Bradenton or to the Village Idiot Pizza on Cortez for a better, more consistent meal.

I was visiting a friend in Sarasota and I was looking for pizza places. I've heard they're famous for their delicious pizza (which turned out to be true). We ordered a medium 14" cheese pizza ($9.50) and every slice was great. This was NY style, but not the big paper thin sort of slice. The cheese was nice and gooey, there was sauce, but not too much sauce, and the slices folded quite well. When I get back in town, I'd probably try their other pasta dishes and daily specials.

Love this place. Lived in Sarasota my whole life, and finally found the best pizza in town !

I am local right down the street and refuse to eat there any more. I am easy going but this restaurant stretched my patience to breaking. Service was so incredibly poor: slow to seat when tables empty, slow to take drink orders, slow to take food order, so slow to bring food I thought they forgot the order. Waiter did not check back with the table for the whole evening. Food came, not too good. No one at table had positive comment even though they were starving by the time food arrived. Finished off the experience with the manager not honoring a fillipo's coupon for one of the pizza's from our large order. I still don't understand why, except to assume it was bait and switch. There are plenty of good pizza joints around. Don't waste your time.

I'm really surprised at the mixed reviews for Filippo's. First of all, this restaurant has been here in Sarasota forever - they are a mainstay, consistently busy, and have expanded their business - so clearly the public likes what they have to offer. I think the food is very good --- esp for a pizza joint! As an italian, I don't generally get italian food when I go out (as I can cook it very well myself), but I fully endorse their pasta sauces and salad dressings - all homemade, fresh, and very flavorful. This is my go-to pizza joint-- nice thin crust, sweet tangy sauce, and just the right amount of cheese. Always ready in 20 minutes or less. The staff are very helpful and friendly - I've never had a bad experience.

The other night I stopped in to order some takeout. I ordered a grouper sandwich and a Philly Cheese Steak to go. The waiter asked what I would like on my Philly, so I asked that they put a LOT of onion and green pepper on. He said, "Yes, we always do.". When I got home there was NO green pepper or onion on the sandwich. I would have to say the grouper was good, but how could it not be? I wished I'd read these other reviews before I'd ever gone in there. NEVER GOING BACK. FYI, Ringling Pizza has the best Philly Cheese Steak that I"ve had in Sarasota, and their counterpart, PizzaProsOfManatee.com

Been here a few times since my first review and it's run the gamut from 1 star to 5 stars. Today was a 3 star, meal was okay but service really lacked and the waitress seemed annoyed and overwhelmed. Still, I like their variety of pastas and the pizzas are pretty good. I will probably wait for the in-season crowds to die down before I head back.

I ordered a pie take out when I went to pick it up there was nobody in the place yet I had to wait a good 7 minutes to pay. I had to ask someone , they just ignored me, the place is filthy dirty. I would not recommend this place...stay away.

Been here since last August, only dined here two times. One of the times one of the waitresses was changing her baby on a dining table. Admittedly it was later in the night and there was really no other patrons besides me and my family. Ever since then we do not order out or dine her anymore, completely un- professional and unsanitary. I thought this was gunna be my go to place for pizza, but I guess not.

Avoid this place. Poor service. All food is the same color. Nothing has any flavor. Dirty oil and vinegar containers. Salad dressing as thick as peanut butter. How is it possible that this place is even in business? Do yourself a favor & go to Outback.

The pizza here is absolutely fantastic!! I have been coming here for a couple of years now but never stay in to eat because the service is really slow. When I plan on eating fillipos I order it an hour before I can pick it up. They have recently hired a new Togo girl and she is great, attentive and polite.

Was visiting Sarasota and was craving PIZZA. I found great reviews on YELP and decided to try them out. I was not disappointed. My son and I did carry out three times and brought his friends there for dinner too. Wonderful ladies take really good care of your table and the cooks know their stuff. Thank you for making our trip to Sarasota so YUMMY !!!!!!!

Have had their pizza twice now. It's not really anything to write home about. Better than a chain pizza, so it's decent.

We have tried to gve this restaurant several chances to improve. Like the pizza but the place is filthy. In the bathroom there was a spray bottle of top job on the counter and a plastic plant coated with thick dust. The whole place feels neglected. There were several empty tables and they seated us by the entrance to the bathroom with an area of trays of dirty dishes and kitchen traffic. The glass of wine was almost the size of a shot glass. There was a hanging electrical outlet and brackets where a wall tv once hung. We heard they ran out of tomatoes so the table next to us did not have any on their salad. where is the management????

Everything you may have heard about this crave worthy place is true, they have freaking amazing pizza! They are in a great location next to a movie theater and an ice cream parlor. They have indoor and outdoor seating, great customer service, decent prices, and a full bar. For you ladies, they also have delicious daiquiris. You have to get the pizza here. The crust is thin, perfectly crispy, and has a slight char on the bottom from the gas oven. Each slice reminds me of what I used to eat in Manhattan. The toppings are also excellent quality, the cheese being most important. We had the Hungry Man (XL for $15.95), which was eight large slices of meaty heaven. The Gnocchi with Meat Sauce ($13.95 dinner) was a massive portion of chewy gnocchi potato dumplings covered in a savory bolognaise sauce. Definitely a dish worth returning for, as if the pizza is not enough here to make your mouth water. The Cannoli($4.50) is overloaded with tasty filling, definitely worth a try. Check their website for their full menu.

From Chicago where we have some great pizzas but this is one of the best thin crusts I've ever had. The sauce is amazing, lots of good quality cheese, and the homemade crust is out of this world. Only complaint is I wish I lived closer!

We haven't had pizza here for quite a few months because we've been trying to sample some other joints in the area. Last night my husband showed up with a pizza from Filippo's and I was a bit disappointed. It was soggy and the dough didn't seem to be cooked enough. One of the reasons we started trying other pizza places (this was our go-to) was because the wait during season is almost always an hour for a pizza. Ridiculous! I'm not saying I won't go here again but I might opt for an entree instead of a pizza.

If you are in SRQ/Bradenton and want the best pizza hit Filippos up! Great Pizza very good crust, and excellent sauce! As an Italian I will tell you it's all in the sauce. The pasta is also great. The Fra Diavolo with the scungil is amazing! Just a Nice family Resturant with excellent food.

This was the best pizza in town but not anymore. Something has changed! The last two times we had pizza here it was ok at best. The cheese is not good at all. I think they must be trying to cut corners or something. The crust was great as always but that was about it. Please change back whatever you did!!!!

I came here with a group of friends earlier tonight. The place was empty, so we got a seat in a back booth. The service seemed good at first, but quickly turned sour when our waiter would not return to our table to give us our checks, treated us extremely rudely when straightening out the check that he messed up, and ended our evening by angrily questioning our tips and telling us to "get the f**k out". Worst dining experience of my life. I will never return to Filippos. The manager was not on staff, but the woman we spoke to did absolutely nothing for us. Unbelievable. No wonder the place was empty.

We were there last night and the service was terrible the pizza took a very long time and the rest of the people at our table did not get there meal for a long time either. The manager has a lot to be desired he told us they got the oven started late. Complained and he did nothing. We defiantly do not recommend this place at all.

Update. What happened here? what a train wreck. Unpleasant staff, dirty dishes, get your own flatware from other tables, spoiled lettuce in the smaller sized salad, So-so food, first glass of water comes with your check. So much for being a regular. From a four star to a one. Darn it. ...,,,,,, I'm a fan. Filippo's (Lockwood Ridge/University) is located in a down-at-the-heels shopping mall but it is worth the trip. We eat there almost weekly; we go there for date night, followed by a $2 movie. For dinner, they will bring serving of bread, made in the restaurant, to the table. The pizza is great, crust and sauce. We also get the spinach appetizer or mussels. I'm told the soup is good, but it is not my thing. A draft is $2.50

Food food quality has gone down a tad since new owners have taken over but the service is little better ( the screaming lady owner is gone). Still very good for a pizza takeout. Also like the eggplant parm. Major complaint is that they no longer offer the tortellini with aurora sauce since this was one of the best dishes they had. Also do not like the new black aprons since it looks more like something a chain would have. Hmmm come to think about it I sort of miss the screaming lady.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
