Amazing food, no amount of superlatives can express how good the food is. Plenty of Kosher, vegan, and gluten free options. I have been going here for 10 years and it has been my favorite restaurant to go to in Sarasota. The special board items always are very fresh and tasty and the curries are absolutely great. Ash and Denise (the owners) are awesome and make it feel like a second home. Things not to say/do: (1) be rude to Ash, Denise, or Alex, they are not afraid to talk back. (2) if you are an anti-Semite, this so not the place for you. If you want to go rabbi sight seeing, this is your spot. All in all this is one of my very favorite places in Sarasota and possibly anywhere I have eaten in the world.

So I've just finished reading 2 reviews by a couple who went here on Friday. All I can say is wow. What extreme ignorance and baffling stupidity. This restaurant is easily the most personable and accommodating eatery in ALL of Sarasota. The owner and his wife are two pillars of this community and should be applauded for their position in the community. The food here is phenomenal and the service top notch. I couldn't begin to praise this place enough. Maybe Maggie and Alex should think twice before using yelp to try to damage local business. They're probably the type that think McDonald's is a "good" eatery!!!!

We were here last weekend, due to a last minute decision to get a quick dinner. My guy said the reviews were good and yelps reviews also, so we went for it. Right now I'm not sure where the good reviews came from? The place is like a small living room made into a restaurant. It's very small, the waitress was constantly bumping into me, I overheard 4 conversations before we got our dinner and it was so dark that the lights were also flickering,... Like a ghost movie or something. The waitress (tall, bigger blonde lady with glasses) had an attitude and was very unfriendly. Her tone of voice was so off, she made us feel uncomfortable and like we were not the customer. I was really disappointed with the place. The food was decent- I cannot complain. But then again- it was so dark in the living room I'm not sure if there was any dust or dirty dishes- I wouldn't have seen it. We only both receives 1 water- no refills, nobody asked for it either. Very unfriendly and dark spot. Not sure how it got all the good ratings on here.

Great to have this restaurant in walking distance to our Sarasota home. We have walked by many times and did not go in but tonight with friends (one vegan one vegetarian), we decided to try this restaurant. It is a lovely place, nice decor, great menu. At first we were surprised to see Indian and Middle Eastern together but it works. We stayed with the Indian entree's and everyone could order based on their dietary needs. Our entree's did come with a greek salad and pita bread (which was warm and delicious). The food was excellent with wonderful spices. I'm looking forward to going back with friends and family again and again!

Wow! Another amazing meal. Whether it is a felafel and salad or South African bobotie I am always surprised by the originally and never surprised by the personal service by the staff. I just can't stop! What a delight if you are a foodie.

Chutney's is one of my favorite restaurants not just in Sarasota, but all of Florida. It's casual and comfortable, but their food is unique and dependably delicious. Nothing fancy, no remarkable presentations, but delicious all the same. Ash and his wife have always been incredibly friendly and welcoming. Their beer selection is fantastic, even though there is no draught. Salmon is always fresh, pakoras are delicious, you really can't go wrong. It is a Sarasota establishment, a small gem that should not be missed.

I just tried this place for the first time and wow, this was just an awful experience over all. The place is tacky, small, overcrowded and has an awful atmosphere. Of course this would all be looked past if il the food was good. But there is just nothing good to say about this place. The food was some of the worst I have ever eaten. I had high expectations with the 4 star reviews and LOVE Mediterranean and Indian food. However this was just awful. My boyfriend ordered the gyro and it was sub par-average. I ordered the korma and saag aloo. The korma was extremely underseasoned, very small portion and the chicken was dry. The saag aloo was awful, chopped into tiny pieces and I couldn't even bring myself to eat more than a few bites. My salad was okay, all iceberg and nothing special, but was the only part I somewhat enjoyed. On top of everything, the owner was the only server and was extremely impersonal and didn't once even ask how our meal was or speak more than a few words. At the end, I said I wasn't happy with the food and he just told me he has been cooking for 28 years and my food was bad because what I ordered was mild. Right, because guilting the customer for an awful experience is acceptable... He also said "I know I can't please everyone" and told us we didn't have to pay the bill after he had just processed our credit card; passive aggressive and didn't try to make the situation right at all. I've had the same dishes at other restaurants and they have been amazing. Do not eat here, the service, atmosphere, and food are all just dreadful. Never coming back.

4.50 sharing plate fee. No soda refill. $15 credit card minimum. Food cost to quality/flavor ratio was too far off for me to come here again. Too expensive for under seasoned food. We'll make our Indian fusion at home before coming here again. Only positive is the crayons on the table.

Love this restauant! Friendly, delicious, fantastic. If you haven't tried it and live in Sarasota, you are really missing out. Consistently a great meal. Ash, the owner, greets us warmly and provides great service. Thanks for the many great meals, Chutneys!

This restaurant is exceptionally friendly with a wonderful mix of Indian and Greek dishes. We loved everything! It is also quite reasonable.

Chutneys has a family feel and is a unique concept of an Indian fusion restaurant. The two owners are the servers and they have one bus boy so if it's busy the service is lacking. They nickle and dime their guests so it makes sense they lack an adequate serving staff. The decor is ok, kind of an inexpensive home goods feel to it. The tables are a bit cramped and worn, covered by paper and tattered crayons with which you can draw with while you wait. That's actually pretty fun. Something that I cannot tolerate is a casual place charging you for a refill on a fountain soda! Especially since chutneys fills their sodas up with so much ice, it's easy to go through the actual liquid frequently. It is a cheap practice and it is insulting as a patron when you order a lot of food and alchol, thus spending a lot of money. Because of this nickel and diming, I do not like going here. The food itself is pretty good though the portions are small. We have the samosas to start usually which taste like fried versions of the Amy ' s samosas you get in whole foods. We also get the hummus and babaganosh platter which is tasty. They charge you for extra bread even though there is not enough for dipping. Another example of their cheap business model. The spanakopita, chicken mikhani, lamb vindaloo, and the rice is all very good, though you do not get much protein at all with the dish so they can inevitably save some money. The greek salad that starts your meal is also always yummy. The menu never changes which is ok since you know what to expect, and they supplement with specials. So overall, I like this place, but I could REALLY like it if they would just change some business practices.

What a nice evening we just had here at Chutneys. My wife had a middle eastern platter: Koo Koo and Mousakka and I had an Indian platter: Saag Aloo and Chana Masala. Both entrees came with a salad with a fantastic hand made herb vinaigrette. The food was excellent and the service was prompt and professional. As a bonus, Chutneys is located two doors down from a club that was playing live jazz. So, since we sat outside, we had free entertainment! What a great night!

This place was recommended by my mom who comes here every time she comes to Siesta Key. I loved it! It's small but really nice ambience, perfect for my husband and I. We came for dinner and it was packed! They have plenty of meat free choices, which I loved. I ordered the Channa Masala and the Aloo Tikki...both so good with Indian spiced tea and hubby got a gyro. We shared the Creole bread pudding which was very good as well! The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would come back for sure!

Visited this restaurant on Saturday evening without reservations. No problem, we were seated immediately. A small restaurant, very pleasant decor, and attentive wait staff. My husband and I both chose from the pick 2 menu of dinner entrees. A lovely salad came with the meal, along with pitas, and the waiter also brought a warm nan after I mentioned that I preferred nan over pita. I had chicken korma, delicious, and fried green beans, my husband had the chicken masala, along with a warm, spicy eggplant. Highly recommended. No room for dessert, but was just a little tempted with the baklava. Only small complaint would be the small wine selection. Parking, surprisingly, was not a problem on Hillview...

It's not that the food here isn't good: it's just neither true Indian nor true Near Eastern. The results: an odd melange of flavors. In my opinion and that of our dining and lunching companions (three visits) the place tries to cover too many cuisines and doesn't quite succeed at any. I say this based on visits, that included friends from India and the Near East. The Indian dishes are under-seasoned and those featured as Mediterranean/Middle or Near Eastern could be better executed. The service runs the gamut from very solicitous to very abrupt; depends on the time of the day or day of the week and who's the host/ess in charge. Not having tried here the condiment chosen as the establishment's moniker, I'd have to say that this place is more "Etc." than "Chutney."

Very disappointing. The hummus was awful, the salad was all iceberg lettuce and it was all very expense.

Locals encouraged us to dine here and we are grateful to them. Our chana masala, rogan josh, tandoori chicken and chicken koorma were all fabulous. We liked the cozy dining room and the owners both stopped at our table and were gracious. They take pride in their restaurant and justifiably so.

Had a wonderful meal there! Owner was very helpful as I had never eaten at an Indian/Middle Eastern restaurant. I had the Chicken Masala and Garlic Green Beans. Very yummy. Husband had a full rack (!) of Mango something Ribs that were falling off the bone and tasty. The Pita bread was fresh and warm. Couldn't have asked for a better meal. Will go back!

Delicious. Great vegetarian options and a decent beer selection! It's a quaint place, with good service. I had the I had the Saag Aloo and Chick pea curry from the Indian menu and it came with a greek salad, rice and endless warm pita bread. They offer Indian, Middle Eastern and Greek food options. Good value. I will be back!

Fake ethnic food. How did it get so many good reviews? First of all we didn't understand why we had to pay 5 dollars extra to share an entree. We ended up ordering the Chicken Makhani and Chana Masala, and it tasted worse than aeroplane food. The spices were overpoweringly out of whack which rendered the dish either tasteless or completely unlike the way it is meant to be. If this is what the rest of the food is like, the owners are fooling the people of this small town with their "Indian" food. I ought to know, I'm Indian. We also ordered the falafel sandwich and asked for it to be wrapped. I didn't appreciate the owner telling me that it was an odd request and that in her 27 years of experience she knows it works best as an open sandwich. Very patronising. I wish I'd told her that I'd spent longer than that eating falafels in the Middle East where I grew up. Rubbish. We wanted to order dessert but we didn't because we didn't trust the place.

Let's set the food aside for a little bit and talk about the entertainment. The entertainment being the drawing paper "table cloths" and the assorted colored crayons you can doodle with as you wait for your food. That's great. Right--so, the food. With many vegetarian dishes, this place wins my heart for sure. Each dish is busy with flavor, but not overwhelmingly spicy or numbing. It's a perfect balance. Their basmati rice is delicious, too. The curries are different from other indian restaurant's curries, though. That's not to say they're not good--they're great! The typical indian curry you're probably used to is pretty creamy and thick. This curry is fairly soup-like. Also, the garlic green beans sound good from the menu description, but they're not as special as they sound. They're good for sure, but with the other options you could choose as part of your pick-two platter combo, I'd go for a different dish. Oh, and their lentil soup is perfect. Atmosphere is warm, cozy and friendly. Ash, the owner, is very welcoming to everyone and kind even when the restaurant is crazy busy.

We've been in Sarasota 1 week, and have tried many restaurants. This is my absolute favorite so far. The food was superb, the service was excellent, and the owner (who served us) was gracious and friendly. His vegetarian recommendations were wonderful. I had Paneer Makhani (the veg curry of the day) and Aloo Tikki, that was some sort of wonderful potato pancake with fabulous spices, covered lightly with a plum sauce. Dinner came with a Greek salad that was one of the best I've ever had as well as warm pita wedges. Would highly, highly recommend this place and already can't wait to go back!

This is NOT an indian restaurant. The woman who either runs or owns this place is rude and really knows nothing about the cuisine she serves. I have no idea why this place has received any positive reviews.

As far as Sarasota dining goes, definitely a great menu with both Greek and Indian options. A little pricey when all is said and done but the daily specials are usually your best bet as are the ethnic staples but the cilantro salmon and bread pudding are musts. Ashe, the owner, is a sweetheart too who will make you feel at home.

If I were to still live in Sarasota, I would make this a once a week stop! It is simply amazing! I think I have been going there since I was about 18, I am now 27, and even though I have moved away I try and go every time I visit the parents! Either way, I do not believe in my almost 10 years of going there I have ever deviated from my usual - Chicken Tikka Masala, always ordered with a side of raita (cucumber yogurt sauce) and I start with the small greek salad with pita! So amazingly tasty, I am craving it as we speak! The food is always healthy, fresh and delicious. The husband and wife team take orders themselves and are always friendly and welcoming ;-) If you are craving Middle Eastern/Indian it is by far the BEST in Sarasota.

I lived in Sarasota for 18 years and never made it to Chutney's. Tonight that changed. The thought of an Indian and Greek restaurant piqued my interest and I selected from the Indian side of the menu. The middle eastern choices were good too: lamb kabobs, stuffed cabbage, koo koo, mousakka, spanakopita, baked feta and sundried tomato strudel...but the Indian side won me over. Our Indian Platters (select two dishes) were served with basmati rice, Greek salad and a basket of warm homemade pita wedges. We started with the Greek salad, which had pickles and chick peas, in addition to the usual suspects - cucumber, feta and kalamata olives. The dressing was fantastic and full of spices and flavor. For my platter, I chose the Chicken Masala (chicken pieces in a rich tomato curry with caramelized onions and a blend of indian spices) and the vegetarian curry du jour (I picked the okra with tomato sauce and spices) and both were great. Mom ordered the Chicken Makhani (grilled chicken pieces in a velvety tomato cream sauce with fresh cilantro) and Aloo Tikki (indian-style potato cake with cilantro and jalapeno, topped with a drizzle of plum sauce). The Makhani was slighty sweet and slightly spicy, and the Aloo Tikki was very interesting - a squishy potato pancake with a sweet, flavorful plum sauce. Portions were great and the price ($14.95) was decent. Chutney's is open for lunch and dinner. Parking can be a bit tricky if all of the nearby restaurants are also crowded (we got lucky, and it was a Monday night). I was impressed with the beer selection and jealous of the lady dining nearby with a sninfter of Delirum Tremins. The atmosphere is nice, but slightly noisy as there was a gaggle of six ladies dining at a nearby table. There's a bar that seats about 6 or 7, and then roughly 12 tables total.

This restaurant is one of the best, most addictingly fantastic places I've ever been to. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, but the amazing combinations to choose from are endless and the staff is some of the friendliest around This is a great place to take a date or a cozy comfort to return to. Chutneys will easily become your new favorite place. We love ordering the samosas (best in town), lamb shank and pork with sweet potato fries. They are perfectly cooked and crispy every time. This is one of our favorites! PS- the bread pudding is so good just the thought of it is making my mouth water...enjoy.

Delicious and exotic. Flavored perfectly. The Tandoori chicken platter w/ freshly-baked pita, hummus and Greek salad is the perfect combination for your palate. Order with Mango tea.

Indian and Greek (really??) place with cheap minimalist decor. Bustling. Goes to show how starved Sarasota is for decent ethnic food. This place would not last with any real competition but it has none and does a better than mediocre job with the food. Not bad for take out. Currys are pretty good.

Good food for the whole family - meat and veg alike. Still... my lady and I had the Indian plate and all of the items were very overspiced (excessively hot). My meat and potatoes, Olive Garden/Applebees loving parents enjoyed their meat dish, but I doubt they'd go back on their own. They need better chairs. Putting a pad on a metal fold-up chair still leaves you with a fold-up chair. The fact that you can draw on the paper table cloths is a bonus, and I did eat everything on my plate means that if you need a break from the hum-drum in sarasota... this joint is a pleasant change. Pros: veg options, large beer selection, unique and fun neighborhood Cons: not cheap, almost too spicy, metal fold-up chairs

This is a good place to eat in a street full of good places. The food is a mix of middle eastern and indian. Small with personable service. Good for "veg" meals. You can color on the paper table clothes...
