Very nice seafood restaurant. Had an excellent Chilean sea bass made on cedar plank with goat cheese. Grouper and red snapper is also good. Lobster bisque was more like a chowder with large chunks of lobster. Not typical creamy bisque but very tasty. Try shark fin pie for dessert .

This is our restaurant of choice for our 1 night out when we come to Santa Rosa for our yearly family vacation. We have never been disappointed with the food and the service is amazing. Everything from drinks to appetizers to entrees to dessert - everything tastes fresh and made to order. The seafood is especially fresh and melts in your mouth. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting delicious food that won't disappoint.

Worst restaurant ever. Had to wait 45 minutes for a drink. Ordered Lobster Bisque, which was cold. Head hostess brought the same bowl back out, and we were told that they just Microwaved it. When the Manager arrived, he told us he personally heated up the soup in the pan, which was a lie, you could tell it was the same bowl ( it had been eaten out of) when we called him out on either he or his hostess was lying, we were asked to leave. The Manager should be Fired and be banned from the food service business for life!!!!!

Decided to break out of our routine of eating at the same restaurants and try something new. Mitchell's Fish Market was a great choice and will be added to our 'recommended' and 'go to' restaurants in Destin! Atmosphere was very pleasing. Hostess and manager greeted us immediately and were very friendly and professional. Our waitress, Celeste, was a doll and the perfect waitress! She was prompt, attentive and knowledgable. Her recommendations were perfect. The food was delicious with generous portions. If you are a martini fan, I'd highly recommend the Pinefin Martini :)

Dinner was great, and all of the seafood tasted fresh and tender. At our table, we had the seafood Americana, fruitti di mare pasta, and the lobster-stuffed cod. Everything came out steaming hot. Even the bread was delicious! Not five stars because the prices of the drinks spiked our bills high.

Overpriced for what you get. Warning, this will be harsh. We will not be going back. Fish was below average. Crab legs were good, but honestly how do you screw that up? Mashed red potatoes were also good, and that does take some skill. We got the newby waiters and you could tell they hadn't ever waited tables before. For those prices, I don't expect to have amateur wait staff. They didn't help their cause when they forgot my wife's wine order multiple times. That's not a way to drive a good experience. Sorry guys, taking my dollars elsewhere.

Had an amazing meal sampling just about everything on the menu, including cocktails. The best part? Our waiter, John. You'll never find a classier, more skilled waiter anywhere. Simply the best!

Dinner was amazing. Had the salmon with lobster and grouper. Topped it off with a slice of key like pie which was excellent! Waiter was amazing. Very attentive and knew his stuff. A pleasure

We had a lovely experience at Mitchell's. Try to get the private room if you have a party around 8 - made the experience special. We had the crab dip appetizer, shanghai combo (salmon, shrimp, and scallops) and the lobster and crab stuffed fish (subbed local grouper for cod). Others in our party had the fried combo plate and chowder. Everything was delicious! My husband even declared the salmon the best he's ever had. Kids' meals were good-sized, so if your kids are small, they can probably share. We usually try to stay away from chains, but this one was worth it!

Great on all levels The food was excellent. They offered super fresh group and yellow fin tuna from the local area. it is supposedly never frozen and not more than 48 hours old. They also offer it in a variety of styles I had this great ap that was shrimp wrapped in bacon drizzled with this rich sweet sauce. highly recommend for my main course I had a blacken tuna. great as well. definitely fresh. no bull overall, the waiters were very nice and knowledgeable. they knew what paired well and the overall taste and textures of each fish. they were pleasant and attentive. the decor was classy. it reminded me of a nyc oyster bar.

I have been coming to Destin annually since 1994 and am used to the typical beach shack restaurant that is ubiquitous among the local dining scene. What I was NOT expecting was a culinary destination worthy of any big city, from New York to San Francisco. We went there tonight with a group of 12 upon my dad's recommendation. Let's just say my dad is from Alabama, so typically I don't expect that much out of his dining choices. I now and forever retract that statement. Mitchell's was, for lack of a better word, phenomenal. We started with the Hawaiian ahi, crab dip and oysters as a starter, then each had a different kind of fish for a main (the salmon was awesome, though nothing disappointed). Let me just say: LISTEN TO YOUR SERVER. They know their stuff. And they will give you their opinion, not only on what dish to order, but how to have it cooked. We had Nick, and I want to be his new best friend after his fabulous recs and his great, witty attitude. The drinks shouldn't be overlooked either. We each went through at least three different cocktails; the grape crush (with vodka and muddled grape) and the elderflower and pear, in particular stand out. In essence, we will definitely be returning to Mitchell's next time we're in town!

Went here for Mom's 84th birthday last month, and it was great. Most importantly, it was her favorite meal of the week we spent in the Destin area. The service was excellent for our party of 7, and everyone loved the food. They also gave her a piece of carrot cake as big as her head, which of course we all shared, and was excellent. A little pricey, but worth it overall. In a nice outdoor mall area, so stuff to do for the ladies afterwards.

Wow...This has to be the best place to eat seafood in Sandestin, period. I usually don't give a five-star rating, but this place deserves it. If I had to compare the decor and ambience, this place would be most similar to McCormicks and Shmicks or Flemings. Mitchells is known for and specializes in fresh seafood We started with the Asian Calamari... a bit greasy but a wondeful taste My son had the Tilapia - Shanghai Style. This was served over a bed of jasmine rice and had a delicious ginger and soy flavor. Really very good I had the large lump crab cakes, served over corn and red potatoes. Excellent My daughter and her boyfriend both had grilled fish Our meal came with fresh french bread To round out the meal, we shared two slices of key lime pie...Excellent pie We saw but didn't get a chance to try the 7-layer carrot cake..but boy did it look good. I hear it is wonderful. The service was excellent from start to finish. Look forward to returning!

I've dined here twice while in town for a work event for my husband. After trying to find a decent local place to get good seafood and have decent service, we gave up and went back to Mitchell's - knowing we'd have everything we wanted in a dinner - steak (for the hubs), fresh seafood (for me) and excellent service. We ordered tuna and bacon wrapped shrimp as our appetizers (we were VERY hungry). The voodoo sauce on the shrimp was DELICIOUS! Hubs enjoyed his tuna immensely. For dinner, hubs picked a ribeye and was pleased. I'd chosen the sea bass on my previous visit and wasn't in the mood for the market catch, so I sprung for the seafood Americana - which is scallops & shrimp in a spicy lemon sauce over potatoes with spinach/mushrooms. It was delicious. We also enjoyed the selection of their wine list - a variety of flavors and price points to satisfy everyone. The service was top notch - it restored our faith that there are restaurants in the area with excellent service. Brian was our server and I'd highly recommend him to anyone dining there. We took a slice of key lime pie to go - we were too stuffed to even THINK about dessert after finishing our meal. A neighboring table ordered the carrot cake & by the reaction of another table in the area, I had to check out their slice - it was ENORMOUS! If you want to a dessert to feed 4-6 people, order the carrot cake!

This wasn't good at all for a $$$ restaurant. Our food was cold, lacked flavor and the service was mediocre. Very disappointing!

Had an excellent appetizer and meal at Mitchell's. Appetizer was shrimp cervantes meal was Grouper prepared Shanghai. Good service. Did go before main evening rush.

We were seated immediately on a Friday night. The food was alright, but not memorable.(seriously..I can't even remember what I ate). I do remember that the oysters were amazing and the customer service was great. I would probably give this place another chance.

This restaurant needs to work on training their employees about paying attention to their customers. For those of us who travel for a living, we often head to the bar to sit and have a drink and order dinner without having to go through being seated at a table. I went to the bar tonight and had to wait for the bartender to fill of of his server's orders before he ever recognized me. I purposely kept a smile on my face and waited. Once I finally got water and a glass of wine, I ordered dinner. Enough time passed to finish one glass of wine and order another when dinner was served. The order came out incorrectly prepared.....and I was forced to wait longer to eat. I finished both the second glass of wine and my full glass of water and sat there with empty glasses even when my dinner was served. No one offered to fill my glasses. When I tried to pay the tab, I mentioned to the bartender about the long waits and lack of service and he went and brought a manager over. I told her what had happened and thought she would offer a suggestion for future change. Nope! Paid my tab....left and will not be back.

C'mon yelppers! There has got to be a better seafood restaurant in this area! We came here for an early dinner on Tuesday, at about 5:00PM, and we were dressed casual with flip flops. The Good: SUPER friendly service - very attentive, helpful, and fast. (her name was Agatta). My lobster bisque, and of course the complimentary sourdough bread and butter. Also, my lobster/shrimp stuffed cod with asparagus and mashed potatoes was pretty yummy. The Bad: We had to send the side Caesar salad back because the lettuce was wilted and was definitely NOT fresh. Our server was very nice about it and offered something else (but we didn't want anything else..so she removed it from the bill.) The Ugly: The pappardelle pasta with seafood - no. flavor. at. all. It was very very bland, even with the seafood in there! So weird. We didn't even eat the left overs. :( If it wasn't for the service, this would be a one star review.

  • Julia H.

Very nice & comfortable dinning room. Staff was customer focused, knowledgeable & professional. These 3 things are found at fewer & fewer places. We had the fried shrimp app-it was good. A Caesar salad with an awesome dressing. My son liked the kids shrimp. Due to sleepy daughter we got our entries "to go". I had cedar plank salmon. Very good. Hubbie had sea bass-also, very good. But let me say one more time how awesome it was for the hostess & server to be accommodating to our families needs to sit down at a table & then get it to go. Yeah!!!

I highly regretted going to this big-chain restaurant that felt like being in any other mall in the US, while I could have gone to one of the many local shops that have a true Destin ambience. The food was average and expensive. The only great thing was the service. I'd recommend this place if it were in Atlanta, but if you're in Desting, save some money, eat better and enjoy a true beach experience in one of the local places.

I came here based on the recommendation of my aunt Mo. She and Aunt Judy both got broiled scallops and enjoyed them immensely. I'm more of an eater and went with three courses: half a dozen raw Apalachicola oysters, medium size, briny, satisfied my thirst for fresh Gulf Coast seafood. The blackened grouper had a pleasant crust of spice and was cooked to perfection, the black-eyed peas and Tasso ham brought in some pleasant chew and even more seasoning to accompany the delicacy of the fillet. For dessert we got the seven layer cheesecake to share: I was still eating it days later. The server, a young lady who had just flown in from LA, was warm, made great recommendations, accommodated all requests from my aunts and executed service flawlessly. Aunt Judy enjoyed the music: a mix of crooners and piano jazz. We all enjoyed the well-handled Gulf Coast seafood, comfortable old school atmosphere, and personable service.

I'm a big fan of Mitchell's but today was really disappointing. Party of 4, crab shrimp appetizer, which like the chowder, had zero flavor. We had to ask for old bay and lemon. Service was slow and the place was not busy at all. Food was ok. Not 25 a plate ok. Bummer.

  • Scott A.

Went several years back and returned tonight. It was excellent. Started off with crabmeat-spinach- and artichoke dip which was loaded with crab and excellent. For our main course we had blackened grouper and surf and turf. The crab cake was 90% crabmeat and was exceptional. It's a small thing but their bread is also great.

If the two gentlemen are working the bar your in for a treat. They introduce themselves and then use your first name when addressing you! The food here is great crab cakes are perfect, grilled grouper tons of favor. Without a doubt the best restaurant/service in the area!

Wow... what a great place, I had high expectations after eating at some of the surrounding restaurants in Sandestin and I must say this one did not disappoint. To start the waiters were extremely knowledgable about the food and offered spot on recommendations for everyone in my group. For appetizers the shrimp cocktail was delicious with massive shrimp and the crab and artichoke dip was packed with tons of crab. For the main course I decided to try the yellowfin and the waiters recommendation for the preparation was spectacular. For desert the Creme Brûlée was amazing as well. All and all I will definitely stop in here the next time I'm in the area. If your looking for a place that has extremely clean, refreshing, and great tasting seafood this is the place to come.

Had the Grouper with veggie and mashed red potatoes. Plate was hot, fish and veg were well cooked, and potatoes were a bit cool and needed some seasoning but overall a good meal. Good wine list, nice space, I'll come back.

On our last night of our wonderful vacation week in Destin, we were eager to get some fresh local catch. We had eaten at other Mitchells Fish Market restaurants and were pleased enough to seek out Mitchell's in Sandestin. It was Thursday August 29 and we arrived around 8:30PM. It was pretty empty. The hostess greeted us pleasantly until we asked to sit outside. She then treated us like we had leprosy but seriously; she handed us two menus and let us fend for ourselves. So we found a high top outside in the "bar area". Our waitress came over and asked if we would like a cocktail. She seemed a little off but no big deal YET!! She then came back and asked if we were eating dinner. We said yes. We gave our orders and she left without a word. No "would you guys like to start with an appetizer, salad, etc.". Again, no biggie because we didn't want that. We had to get our own silverware from another table nearby and had to ask for bread. That is the last we saw of our waitress. Sorry I don't have a name but she is in the wrong business. The manager brings over our dishes. We eat and then we sit, and sit, and sit with dirty plates in front of us. Then I see our waitress leaving the restaurant from a side entrance. She crossed the street, got in her car and drove right past us on her way home!!!!!! I kid you not. Not one word to us. There was another table of hers right next to us also. Nobody came over to say, Hey I'll be taking over for the little bitchy girl who left, let me know if you need anything. Finally, Troy the bartender does come over and asks if we are still alive. He was very nice and seemed pretty shocked that our server left without a word. He then got us some dessert and our bill. Being annoyed enough and thinking that the manager needed to know what went on, I asked Troy to send the manager over. Again, sorry but I don't have a name, but the manager ( a young woman with shoulder length light brown hair) seemed to have no expression as we described our treatment. She was apologetic but spoke only a few words. Funny she seemed so reserved because a moment before I saw her in the bar dancing away to the music with customers around. She offered to comp our dessert which she did but that's not what we wanted. We wanted some empathy and for her to seem interested in what her staff was up to. Who ever owns this place needs to call Willie Diegel the guy with the cameras. The food was very good and we both enjoyed what we ordered. We would give a 4 Star review if it were about food. But this review is primarily about the experience which was down right bizarre.

Fantastic!!! I had the Sea Bass stuffed w Lobster and shrimp. The fish was cooked to perfection and simply melts in your mouth. My wife enjoyed her crab cakes for dinner. She especially loved her Pineapple martini. The star of this drink are the pineapples that are soaked in vodka 7-14 days prior to swimming in your drink. A must if your visiting the Destin area.

Cedar planked scallops were some of the best I've ever tasted. The filet was just right as well. Great atmosphere.

Always a great meal, make sure to try the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp! And after your meal get an Espresso, you'll get a piece of Rock Candy on a stick for sweetener! It's the small things that sets this place apart! Would def go back!

Our visit last night was fabulous. The server was prompt and courteous. I had the Little Neck Clam Chowder which was chocked full of clams. I recommend the chowder for a starter. For dinner my wife chose the Shang Hai Seafood Sampler which she enjoyed very much. Our guests selected the Fish Market Trio. One guest told the server he is allergic to shellfish and did not want the scallops. The server returned and said the chef could accommodate him and would add extra fish at no additional charge. Then the chef came to our table and assured us there would be no shellfish or shellfish sauces in his dinner. They savored their dinners. My selection was the Blackened Red Grouper. Superb. We will certainly return when in the area. My first five star rating. Made another visit last night. All four dinners were super. Will return on our next visit.

The entire experience was outstanding! Brian was a superb server, and every recommendation was spot on! Otis unfortunate that there is not an ATL location. If you are blessed to have a Mitchell's close by, then I sincerely hope it lives up to the stellar Sandestin location in every way. You will not regret dining here. Fresh- absolutely. And everything was delicious, especially the grilled snapper!

If I could give a 3.5 star rating I would. Came here as a part of a group of 11, including 3 kids. Our reservations were for 7:15 PM and we were about 10 minutes early but they seated us anyway. Bernadette (or Joy, because she's got a very happy demeanor) was very good at communicating our food choices and giving us recommendations. They print up the menu twice a day so all the seafood choices are fresh. For tonight, they had nice rib eye steaks in too for the meat eaters in the group. Nearly everything sounded good and everybody seemed to really enjoy their food - when it eventually came... Personally I had the Shang Hai Seafood Sampler. It consisted of scallops and shrimp and Chilean Sea Bass (substituted it - the original on the menu calls for Atlantic salmon) over a bed of rice with spinach. It was very good. The problem with this place is that it too forever to get our food. By the time our main courses came, it was almost 9:00 PM! We were all hungry so we scarfed down our food. It would have been nice to stay for dessert but it was getting late. 2 of the 3 kids at our table had fallen asleep! Based on the quality and taste of our food I'd come back. I'm hoping the poor serving of our food was an anomaly.

Really great business lunch spot! The service is great, and the chef even makes table visits to assure allergic guests he won't make them sick.

  • Tom R.

They have a great fresh seafood selection. The wait staff was very friendly and knowledgable of the menu and the desserts are rediculous! We had the carrot cake which could've easily fed 4 people. Prices are reasonable if you consider the quality of the food. No question, this is one of the best places to eat in Destin. We will be back for sure!

Fresh fish flown in from basically everywhere?! Haha, don't have to ask me twice to try Mitchell's! I went to lunch with some family and it was awesome!! The service was great but my cousin also knew the server so I may be a bit biased on that point! The food however was fantastic. My Mom and I are huge fans of Lobster Bisque and this one was definitely up to par. For entree's we all ordered something different and kind of shared. Everything was great! Tasted so fresh and cooked perfectly. Also my Mom was in love with her Grapefruit and Basil martini- so give that one a try! The decor is also really great. It definitely feels like a modern fish house! Will be going back!

I would say 4.5/5. Food was really great. I always order seafood and I am always disappointed, but not here. I had the Hosin glazed Tuna. It was awesome. BBQ shrimp app and house salad was very good. Lobster bisque had big chunks of lobster, but it was a little too bitter. Jared, our server, was knowledgeable and very helpful. Some of the decor was a little cheesey.

I went to Mitchell's for my Birthday Dinner and I was pleasantly surprised. The crab cake had lots of crab meat in it, the salad had a fantastic dressing, the Sea Bass was seasoned and cooked to perfection. They also had a great wine selection. I highly recommend this place for special occasions. It is a bit pricey but well worth the splurge.

More please... This place is awesome. Everything I had was some of the best I had. Seafood gumbo yum, BBQ shrimp yum, freebie bread yum yum. This is a very New Orleans inspired place. I was very happy to end up here on my trip to Florida and will miss it very much. Who's a happy camper. This guy (me)! I really wish they had food like this back in OC, CA but Ill keep wishing and make sure to get here when visiting my in-laws.

As our family waited to be seated (yes, we made reservations) we noticed Charlies Bar inside the restaurant. They had an extensive menu on the wall featuring 30 different fishes and oysters. We were excited to be seated and see the menu! The menu came and it looked like one from Applebees. Your basic common fish entrees. Only 2 oyster options, raw and chargrilled. I chose the special, a lobster and crab stuffed chilean sea bass. My wife chose the chargrilled oysters because 2 nights before we loved the ones at ACME. My entree was prepared well, served cool like it was made 20 minutes ago though. The oysters were an epic fail. I should have sent them back but it was obvious they has no clue to begin with. These were reject oysters they were so small. Each one has a ratio of 10 parts parmesan to 1 part oyster. Every one I ate had 3-4 pieces of large shell...I think I cracked a tooth! To summize...pass on Mitchells unless you want to eat in the bar.

We had the pleasure of dinning here several times in November 2012. The freshest seafood that you will ever eat! Impeccable service! Highly recommend!

  • Gigi D.

Decent food, but pricey. The kids cheeseburger plate was plenty for a 9-year-old. The grilled tuna was fine, but the vegetables that accompanied it were bland. Mashed potatoes tasted instant. The fish tacos were essentially fried tilapia filets in soft tacos. Tasted like they were breaded using fish fry mix out of a box. Best was the tuna wrap with sticky rice. Dip it in soy sauce and enjoy. The seafood gumbo was excellent. But don't get there starved. Food took at least 30 minutes to arrive, on top of the wait at least that long to be seated.

This is a nice restaurant, great amosphere. We enjoyed our dinner here, the prices are reasonable and portions are decent. Food was tasty, looked nice and service was pretty good too. I will return. Often in Destin I see many rundown places with decent reviews, at the end you eat in a dive and pay the same. seafood was pretty fresh, and the variety was good.

We went to Mitchell's Fish Market on a recommendation from my brother. The place is very nice looking inside and out. The wait staff were very courteous and attentive. We had their Maine Lobster Bisque as a starter - yum! The sourdough bread they serve is great for dipping in the soup. I had their Shanghai sampler and my wife had the Ginger Crusted Salmon - both were excellent. Neither one of us was up to the monster desserts they serve - so we passed on that treat ( I understand their 'Sharkfin' cake is pretty awesome though. ) It's a bit pricey at $40/head with tip - but worth it for a special dinner out.

Great place!! The food was amazing and the Sharkfin pie desert was awesome. The 1800 margarita was good too not as strong as I would've liked but it tasted good. The service was good as well a definite must go in my book.

  • Lisa C.

Nick was our server. We were there for lunch. Excellent service. There were 7 of us, including 2 teens. He handled it effortlessly. Salmon was cooked perfectly except it didn't seem grilled on the cedar plank, rather cooked then set on the cedar plank. But still very tasty. Mimosas were very good. Definitely recommended! Casual yet upscale atmosphere.

Very nice seafood restaurant. We've been on a rather restrictive diet, but they were very accommodating. I had the blackened grouper, and my wife had it grilled. This selection was local, so it was good to have fresh fish. Our waitress was only on her second night, but she did an excellent job, as did all the staff. Will certainly return when we are in the area.

  • Ryan K.

Unreal. The sea bass Asian style was incredible. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced for the food. The two lobster tails for $20 is an absolute steal. They're big for that price. And the seven layer carrot cake is big enough for a family of five. The largest piece of cake I've ever seen! This place is a must go.

Pricey, but good. Best fish we had while visiting Sandestine. Would recommend and will be back. Watch out for the 7 layer carrot cake. We took it back to hotel and ate it over 3 nights. Yummy!

Great service always, good place for sit down meal and while pricey, good value since you are getting fresh fish. A lot of times has great three course meal deals too. The house salad is my favorite salad at this point in my life.

Get the Hush Puppies! I thought the fish was average but the side's and veggies were great! They had a great happy hour menu with lots of drinks to choose from. Over all a good place and easy access to stop in after an afternoon of shopping.

Clean, courteous, fine dinning in Destin, Fl. My server John was extremely helpful. Will probably be back later this weekend. When you know fine food, you don't have to keep looking. I just arrived and immediately was referred by the Concierge at the Residence Inn. Great choice

This restaurant is located in a nice little upscale shopping area with a parking lot conveniently located across and in front of the restaurant. What a great meal we had dining here. We started with an ahi tune appetizer that was fresh and fabulous. The Titanic Salad is a nice wedge with yummy bleu cheese dressing with tomato and bacon. I had the scallops Shang Hai Style and thought the soy ginger flavors were perfection. My husband ordered blackened scallops but did not want the meal selections that accompanied the dish. He was accommodated by switching the selections for a similar dish with no concerns from the wait staff. I came home and learned to make Cucumber Collins after having the drink at Mitchell's. The service was excellent.

Let me start off by saying that Brenda, our server was phenomenal! After reading the reviews I was hoping for a better meal than I had. Our hostess looked like Mila Kunis, which I thought was cool. I mentioned this to her and she confirmed that she has heard this before. I ordered the grape crush which I thought would be similar to the Tuscan muddler from Ozzies. It wasn't. Brenda noticed right away that I wasn't digging my drink. She asked me what I thought and I told her that it was more tart than I had expected. She offered to have the bartender add more simple syrup. After I got it back, I tasted it again and it was better but still wasn't all that great. Brenda again noticed I wasn't enjoying my drink and she offered to take it off the bill, which was very gracious. After looking over the menu, I ordered the market trio which was grilled salmon atop asparagus, blackened tilapia over red beans and rice, and three shanghai scallops. My bf ordered the blackened red grouper with étouffée sauce, red beans and rice, and cane syrup green beans. We shared a house salad. The bread they served was warm sourdough. My bf loved it. I'm not a big sourdough fan so I only had one piece. The staff split out house salad in the kitchen because we told Brenda that we were sharing it, nice service! Our meal presentations were good. My bf's grouper seemed to be on the rare side, it wasn't as firm as I was expecting. The cane syrup green beans were super crunchy, more raw than I would've liked. My bf said the best part of his meal was the red beans and rice! My salmon was bland, the asparagus was more raw than I liked. I'm not sure what seasoning was used on their asparagus but it was pretty bland. The tilapia and red beans and rice were lukewarm, the rice was undercooked. The shanghai scallops were the best part of my meal. They were perfectly cooked and the sauce was amazing. As a matter of fact to salvage the blandness of the salmon we wound up dipping the salmon in the leftover shanghai sauce! It was THAT good. For dessert we were torn between the key lime pie and the shark fin pie. I told Brenda and she was kind enough to suggest the mini-version of the shark fin pie (not offered on the menu, but just ask). The pie was delicious but still partially frozen which made it difficult to eat. Overall the food was ok. It was the service that we received that made this dinner. Brenda is great. Since we don't live in the area, we probably won't be coming back this visit but might give this restaurant another try on our next visit. Thanks to Brenda!

the service is excellence but the foods are so much better. Everything we ordered were top notch. I think we washed their plates with our tongues..that's how good it was. You can't go wrong with any dish..we ordered 12 different dishes (since we have 12 people) and we tasted a little from each other dish...Need I said more since we wipe out the foods...Highly recommended and would come back again in an instant...

Marginal service from an improperly trained server. Some food great; my tuna was a huge disappointment both in prep and presentation. I can't recommend.

Our meal here was fabulous! Ambience very pleasing and the wait staff is spot on. Had the sea bass! Perfectly cooked and fresh, fresh, fresh! Portions are large. Ordered the carrot cake for take home. One slice must weigh 2 lbs! Delicious. I would highly recommend Mitchell's.

We have enjoyed meals at Mitchell's in other cities and looked forward to our visit to the Sandestin location. We visited on a night when the restaurant was not crowded and were seated immediately at 7:00 PM. The waitress was very attentive and friendly upon our arrival. She offered thoughtful suggestions for our meals. Our salads and drinks provided great starts to our dining experience. However, when our blackened grouper was delivered undercooked, we tried to get the waitress's attention twice and were ignored. We asked both the kitchen staff and the wait staff to resolve our problem before our waitress returned 10-15 minutes later. The plate was reheated in a microwave and returned to our table over cooked. By the time the now overcooked meal was returned, others at the table had already finished their meal. A manager did not visit our table to ask if we were satisfied with our meal. A total disappointment particularly in regard to so many wonderful seafood restaurants that are available in this area. We visit this region regularly and will not return to this restaurant.

Everyone had a good meal,.... but me. Now, I want to make it clear that I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass without ever having tasted the fish. So, I'll take you through our meal. We began with some drinks, all delicious. I had the grapefruit basil martini. It was very good (for those who detest a sweet liquor beverage). We followed with Spinach salads, all around. Very, very good decision. With small pecan, bacon, goat cheese and apple bits on a bed of spinach with a bacon basalmic dressing. Very good salad. I ordered the steamed Chilean Sea Bass. Served with an extremely desirable sauce on a bed of sticky rice and surrounded by steamed spinach. First of all, the preperation of the fish seemed to be very good. But the fish itself is completely tasteless. Since it was my first time to taste this type of fish, I'm just figuring its a type I'm not going to like. So, that pretty much killed my meal. The surrounding spinach was wilted (very badly). I tried the pecan crusted trout (excellent). My wife had the surf n turf. The steak was ordered medium and served perfectly. Her scallops and shrimp were spot on. I am looking forward to revisiting my review after ordering the tuna or salmon!

Had a food article with a piece of plastic and they were so so apologetic. Hey, stuff happens and the rest of the night was excellent food drinks and fun even past happy hour. Calamari is excellent. Shrimp and artichoke dip was raved about by our friends. They know the regulars and treat them well. Nice place worth any drive.

We've eaten at Mitchell's several times over the last couple of years. Last week, we took visiting friends there, and I'm sad to say that the experience was merely OK. I'm a creature of habit and almost always order the Tuna Shanghai style. I had it last week, and it was good as always. My husband had the sea bass, and our friends had two different tilapia dishes. Their dishes were average, not bad, but not special. Where the night's experience really took a down turn was in the service. First, we stood at the hostess stand for several minutes before anyone came to help us even though, as it was later in the evening, they were not busy. Then, we sat for long stretches of time without water, then without taking our drink order, or without taking our food order. When our server returned, we could smell cigarette smoke on him. I can understand his taking a break, but why didn't another server fill his slot while he was on break? Needless to say, with an abundance of quality restaurants in the 32550 area, I will think twice before I return to Mitchell's, even though I really like the dish I order regularly. Their prices demand a better experience than we had last week.

this place really makes me hate the suburbs. we went there on a recent beach vacation because of the great reviews and then realized it was a boring fake seafood restaurant in a strip mall. the food was blah. the lobster bisque was all butter, no lobster and everything at the table was room temperature. very disappointing.

Had dinner there 9/5/10 and went back on 9/6/10. Food was great both times but service was terrible. After the debacle on 9/5/10 (because food was good but much too late) we decided to try it again. Labor Day and no crowd in the restaurant but service was even worse. I will never go there again because of the terrible service.

You really can't go wrong with anything here. All of their seafood tastes fresh and amazing! The lobster bisque is phenomenal, I definitely recommend trying this while here! Appetizers, desserts, entrees - try everything you can! Go with a big group so you can get a taste of everything! You won't be disappointed!

It would be easier for them if you just went somewhere else...starting with the hostess who was overwhelmed by the empty lobby. The place was not even a third full all evening and yet I heard them tell people to expect a two hour wait...probably because the spirit of the staff was so low or they were stoned and unmotivated. It certainly could not have been an overwhelmed kitchen, because they barely cooked the food...never intended to eat sushi sea bass, but that is what my order turned out to be. The drinks are really watered down...the bartender was too busy flirting to prepare drinks and the waitress too busy watching the bartender. Save yourself the expensive comedy routine and eat almost anywhere else. So as we left this place...no one had found their food any good and we were all still hungry, so we went to Grimaldi's for Pizza. What a difference! Glad to see us, bent over backwards to take care of us totally making up for our $200 plus mistake at Mitchell's! The beer was cold, not having sat on the bar for 30 minutes waiting for the waitress, and the pizza delicious...this is the place to go!

This upscale restaurant in Sandestin was quite disappointing. We had a reservations for 9 people and the evening started off promising. Unfortunately, the service and food were not up to par for a restaurant of this calibre. 1- three patrons had food arrive cold. 2- the ribeye was not cooked to orders 3- the crab legs were tasty but impossible to crack and eat. 4- the private dining room is cold. It's unclear if the waitstaff was understaffed for a Saturday evening or inexperienced. They had good intentions and a friendly disposition however the service was unimpressive. It was a mediocre dining experience. I would not return.

Service so poor, my server forget what I ordered, I'm only one here in dinning room and wait 25 minutes for my lunch, than my plate so hot, I'm burn my tongue on food. But food looks good

We been having such horrible service everywhere we went in Destin.. We was recommended to go here and did not regret it at all. Our service was superb, and this place was very welcoming. Food was very delicious and we had the best waitress, her name was Victoria, and she made our trip to Mitchell's worthwhile, we had the following: - Crispy Calamari with Chili-soy dipping sauce - perfectly marinaded and battered, and went perfect with the delicious chili-soy dipping sauce - Chilean Sea Bass Shang Hai Style - Steamed with fresh ginger and scallion, soy-ponza sauce, sticky rice, sesame spinach - the fish was so delicious and light, and the Shang Hai Style was so perfect for this fish - Mahi Mahi Crispy Ginger Style - Ginger-panko crust, citrus-ginger butter sauce, sticky rice, stir-fried seasonal vegetables - the Crispy Ginger style was also very delicious - Sharkfin Pie - Butter fudge ice cream, honey roasted peanuts, fudge, peanut butter, and Oreo cookie crust - very huge, way too much for two people to share, it was very delicious and sweet We really enjoyed our visit to Mitchell's and cannot wait to be back to eat here again!

Came to Mitchell's around 6:15, well before the dinner rush. The restaurant was about 50% full. Like many other reviewers, we waited for an hour and 15 minutes just to get one app, a salad, and one entree. At first, I thought they had forgotten to place my order, but I asked a half hour in, and it took another 45 minutes of being told "coming right out" for me to get my food. The food was pretty good, which is why I didn't give this place one star. Service in Destin isn't great all around, but this was pretty bad.

Staggeringly bad. Friday night, 8:00 PM. Made reservations for 4. Arrived early and had drinks at the bar (which was all fine - leaving the bar may have been our mistake). When we checked in at 8:00 sharp, we were advised that they were backed up, and we'd have to wait 5-10 minutes. I'm completely fine with that, but I found it noteworthy that they were claiming to be slammed with a half-full dining room and an empty lobby. So we get seated at around 8:30, drink and apps ordered by 8:40, and arrive by 8:50, at which time we place the remainder of our order. So 9:45 rolls around and our table is devoid of all life. Our waiter - as affable as he was - was flitting in and out without response to our not-so-subtle inquiries about the status of our meal and drinks. The food arrives a little after 10:00, right when we're ready to leave. And it's bad. 3/4 of us ordered something that the waiter personally recommended and it all turned out to be Red Lobster-esque. The Shanghai Sea Bass is essentially a crushed filet of flaky nonsense served over a haphazard heap of once-frozen spinach and rice drowning in soy sauce. All that for the low, low price of $36. At the end of everything, the manager gave us $20 off, which was an absolute pittance compared to what we spent (in terms of both time and money). We tipped the waiter 10% (remarkably low compared to what I normally do) and then shuffled off into the night, having been made into worse people than we were when we arrived. Once we arrived home, I fed our leftovers to the dogs. Like me, they seemed enthused at first, but quit the endeavor halfway through. Pros: The lobster mac was actually on point, which is saying something for the most overdone dish in North America. Also, their cuisine makes passable dog food. Cons: Literally everything else you could imagine.

Poor food, Poor service and I do not think anyone cares. Food tastes frozen. Service is worst than a fast food chain. I am writing this review without an expectation that management cares, because most of the issues are very noticeable. There were several patrons with the same complaint in the restroom - cold food, mixed up orders and need of more staff. Once you received the food, you could not even take comfort that the food was worth the wait. The food was very subpar.

I have to give my dining experience two stars. We had a party of nine. Although our waitress was nice, she was inattentive. This may have not been her fault, as the restaurant appeared to be understaffed. Our appetizer and bread plates were not cleared before our food came out. Three of our entrees came out cold. Our waitress was clearly overwhelmed with her other large party and forgot to refill our waters. There are other restaurants in the area with fresh caught fish, excellent customer service, and delicious food.

Actually didn't get to eat here because I was told there was an hour and a half wait despite the restaurant being less than half full. The hostess said they were setting up for 15 people on the patio (of course that still would have left quite a few tables open). Having been a hostess at Flemings in college, I know they could do better. Must be poor management.

Happy hour specials were good, ($5 for some bites to share) and $5 drink choices. The shrimp and calami on the happy hour menu were small portions, but were flavorful and good for sharing. But the rest of the evening wasn't impressive. Rib eye wasn't very good at all for $30-it was dry and lacked flavor. Service was lackadaisical-waited for a long time for drinks in general and refills didn't really exist without asking multiple times. Check and to go box took forever and we had to ask several times. Never saw a manager either (we were outside on the porch). There are better places to go in the area.

Great service, great food! Lovely ambiance. This was my final meal during my Destin trip. I never would have found it w/out Yelp. Thank you! I had the lobster, shrimp BLT. Fabulous! The lemonade (homemade) was exquisite & the crew brûlée was great too.

Exceptional service and food!! I think our waiters name was Hunter (could be wrong...I'm not the best with names) but he was wonderful! The food was some of the best food I have had in a while. I would absolutely recommend this establishment.

After a 6 hour trip in the car, we stopped by for a late lunch. What a great way to start our vacation!! We eat a lot of calamari but this was the best. Their secret is soaking it in butter milk....nom nom! Drinks were great, our server Douglas was awesome. We will be back again before we leave.

Great experience! Although we ended up sitting in the bar area (too hungry to wait the 45 min for a table), the bar serves the full menu and it didn't take away from the experience in the slightest. Our server was prompt, attentive, and knowledgeable. Our appetizers of seared tuna and shrimp cocktail were delicious! Some of the biggest shrimp I've ever seen! I also ordered a spinach and goat cheese salad which I inhaled directly because it was so good! My entree was sea scallops done in a crispy ginger sauce. Absolutely fantastic! It was light but with great flavor that complimented the scallops well. All in all, was a great meal and our server, Blake, was great! Could not have asked for a better first meal on vacation.

One very bad experience! 2.3 hours total time in the restaurant. Excuse after excuse from server and manager as to why we couldn't get drinks, apps , meal. The ONLY saving grace was food was good... Or we were all starving.

Dinner with my wife and my parents. Should have opted for a booth. The table they sat us at was in a high traffic location. That was the least of the issues. The food was pretty good, when it finally arrived. The server stopped and asked if everything was ok, but it wasn't until we noticed that another table was given bread that the restaurant offers it. We had to ask for the bread. Was not impressed with the waiter or the speed at which the food was delivered. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about. Will not be going back.

Food was good but service was not. Never received bread that was asked for. Had to ask for water refills and still took several more minutes. Took 15 minutes to get dessert. Also was seated in front of the kitchen and listened to a lot of arguing. Took away from the atmosphere

Had the cod done Shanghai style. I would've preferred my fish to be under-cooked so that the meat wouldn't be so dry. I love the spinach that the cod was sitting on and the little bit of sauce that was in the spinach. Wish there was more sauce so that I could moisten my fish.

My husband and I love this place and wish they had one in Atlanta. Every time we are in the area of Destin. We go out of our way to go to this place for at least one of our meals. We have never been unsatisfied with the food or the appetizers or the service. They are awesome and the atmosphere is great. Food are pretty good price for seafood. I would recommend this place to anybody.

We've eaten at Mitchell's at least a dozen times over the past year, and we've never been disappointed. Because we've lived in the area for over a decade we're not just familiar with the restaurant, but we also know a number of people on the staff. Mitchell's had a difficult transition with some of the main players on the kitchen staff in the summer of 2013, and I think the manager "righted the ship" pretty quickly. But there was a rather obvious problem that summer, and I'm sure some of the 2013 reviews are reflective of that. But again, the kitchen is now turning out some wonderful food, and our experiences so far through 2014 have all been very good. Mitchell's is, in my opinion, one of the three best seafood restaurants in Okaloosa County (including Destin and Sandestin). To those who are visiting Mitchell's for the first time, as someone who is a local, and experienced with this restaurant and all the other top seafood restaurants in the area, I have to say that I don't understand people who go to a seafood restaurant in a "fishing town," and order seafood that is shipped frozen from halfway across the globe. If you want to maximize the potential for a good experience, don't sit down in a Florida restaurant and ask for king crab caught halfway around the world, frozen for shipping...order fresh, locally caught seafood. When in Destin I suggest you order: - Snapper - Grouper - Triggerfish - Mahi Mahi (especially in the summer months when its caught in the local area) - Amberjack (if that's to your taste) Of course, there are a few other seafood varieties that are caught locally that you may see on the menu.

Mitchell's is one of the better seafood choices on the Emerald Coast, in my opinion. Their ever-changing menus cater to just about everyone's tastes. You can get everything from great surf and turf to delicious market catch to your typical fried seafood fare for your picky step child. Everything is always delicious. A few points of interest: Mitchell's offers you oysters from all over the globe, which is quite a treat for oyster fans. Sure, Gulf oysters are great, but who doesn't like variety? Their lunch menu is impressive, featuring lighter, lunch-sized portions of their market catches, and they have fish and shrimp tacos! Finally, for you sauce monsters like me, they have a truly impressive bar selection, and feature a daily happy hour as well as a late night special during the weekdays, all with food specials! The one thing I always take away from this place, however, is the level of service you get. I've never had bad service at Mitchell's, and these guys have a ton of patience and professionalism. I think you'll enjoy coming here.

Our trip to Mitchell's Fish Market was a very pleasurable experience. We were promptly greeted by our server once seated, and she had our beverage order to us quickly. She did a very good job of explaining the menu, and pointed out the local fish items on the menu. The food tasted good and the portions were a little small for the price point. Mitchell's had a reasonable selection of gluten free items on their menu, which was important to a couple of members in our party. I would definitely return to Mitchell's.
