Worst place I have been to. Told it would be a 10 minute wait for a table so we waited at the bar. Aftre 15 minutes we see other people getting seated and were told they forgot about us. We finally sat down and ordered. Waited 10 minutes then the waitress said she forgot to put the order in. We got up and left.

This restaurant is outstanding. We arrived at 7pm on a Sunday night and were seated straight away, I suppose because it was in September, which is considered the off season. While we've been to Venice several times, we had never really seen this restaurant as it is tucked away on the right hand side of a small shopping center. It looked interesting from the front because of the awnings and landscaping. Our server was very prompt and helpful. We ordered the eggplant Parmesan and seafood ziti. Both came with a very nice salad with homemade dressing. The main courses were absolutely perfect. The sauces were made from scratch, and the portions were very generous. The rolls were excellent, especially with the sweet cream butter. We also split a piece of key lime pie, which was also perfect. I noted a couple of reviews mentioned the service. Our server had worked there six years, and had cooked at a similar restaurant before that. She said most of the recipes came from Grandma Ophelia. I sensed that the restaurant has a large local following, which is a good sign. We highly recommend Ophelia's for dinner, and intend to try it for breakfast on our next trip to the area.

It's been years since I've been to Ophelia's. Back then, it was something special. Today, it has declined. The restaurant "curb appeal" is less than zero. The exterior of the restaurant is cluttered with signage, posters, banners. The interior entry isn't any better. Diners are welcomed by a filthy floor and a table loaded with area business cards. We were there for lunch. I ordered a chicken pesto panini. The chicken was some sort of frozen sliver of chicken breast and it was served without pesto. It took about 15 minutes before the waiter reappeared so that I could ask for pesto. He was happy to oblige. The kindness of staff raised my rating. If the place de-clutters and goes through a thorough cleaning, I may return. I honestly hope the owners take this criticism as constructive and make some improvements.

Ophelia's has always been one of our steady favorites. Steady good food for a very reasonable price. The every day $10.95 specials are unbeatable, and their "two for one" drink deal is an added bonus. We highly recommend it to locals and visitors.

Meatless lasagne last night was MOLTO DELIZIOSO!! This was the best fare I've had there in 5 visits so far. Some of their other pasta dishes lack the SAPORE ROBUSTO that I favor. But not the lasagne. Based on my previous visits, I would've rated the restaurant 3 stars for average food and 4 stars for good service. Now it's 4 and 4. This is a great "middle of the week" dinner and Sunday morning breakfast, neighborhood type restaurant. The wait staff are track star fast and the food is nothing to complain about. Decent wine and beer selections too. As long as the pricing remains attractive (which it is), I'll keep returning for more. Oh, and they also offer plenty of outdoor seating that is dog friendly.

This place is fantastic! We wanted a place to bring our dogs and they catered to that perfectly! Chicken and rice for 1.50 and it was such a great portion for out puppy. They provided treats and water as well. They closed the gate on the patio so they could roam as well. And the food! So wonderful. I picked the lobster bisque and the ahi tuna salad. The tiramisu was delicious. Definitely would recommend to others.

I came here for breakfast with a group on a Sunday morning. The place was packed and stayed that way the whole time we were there. It may not be the best place in town, but for $5.50 I got two eggs, bacon, really tasty breakfast potatoes, an English muffin AND a Bloody Mary. Everyone else had Mimosas, and it was included in the price. Based on the reviews of the dinner food I am not sure I want to try it, but I would return for breakfast anytime. I didn't pay too much attention to the decor because we were all busy talking, but considering the crowds, they don't seem to mind whatever may be wrong with it.

Little neighborhood spot that has good lunch and reasonably priced. I've never been displeased by employee's or food.

Went there for dinner tonight, being there was not room at the bar we sat down at a table. I ordered a hamburger and we also ordered hot wings. The wings tasted frozen and just dipped in sauce. The Hamburger was terrible, Dry and tasted frozen along with the french fries. When I sat down at my booth, I was waiting for my other party. I was asked if I wanted a drink, I ordered. Then I never saw the waitress till my party came. I wanted to order a appetizer. Service was terrible and food was disgusting.

I don't understand the bad reviews. We went twice and thought the food and service was great. Sat at the bar the first time and brought our dog and ate on the patio the second time. Friendly staff. Generous portions. Cheap prices. House wine was good.

Straight from an episode of Bar Rescue. We recently moved to the neighborhood (from a very near by one) and are trying to give this place a shot... Went once and just OK for drinks at the bar (all day happy hour). But tonight we went for drinks and dinner and were sadly disappointed. Its extremely tough to even get service. We had to waive our hands whenever we wanted a drink. But even worse, the food was terrible. Ordered a pizza with eggplant, fresh basil and fresh roasted garlic. The pizza had previously frozen BREADED and FRIED (not fresh) eggplant, a sprinkling of DRIED basil and - to us - ZERO garlic though the bartender said he did "sprinkle" some on. (how do you 'sprinkle' fresh roasted garlic??) It was bland and a huge disappointment. Then to make the night worse, the bartender (male) did two shots with the OWNER right next to us. All while we were not being served our own drinks. And then a waitress, STILL ON SHIFT, came up and was given a beer by the female bartender and proceeded to drink it 30 feet away at an empty table and then go back to waiting on tables!! I should mention this is the SAME waitress who reached across the area where plates are prepped earlier and put some sort of food in her mouth and then carried her dinner plates out. Between the drinking staff, wrong/frozen food and negligent owners, we will NOT be back!!

First off this place looks dated from the outside. One of my dining companions had eaten at Ophelia's before and said it was good but not great. I always keep and open mind. I wasn't starving so I ordered the Lobster Bisque soup $4.50. It had a creamy texture and few pieces of lobster. Wasn't offensive but I wouldn't order it again. Secondly I ordered 1/2 dozen oysters $6.00. They arrived in a metal pan with ice. They were large and looked great. However it took 10 mins to get crackers and hot sauce. The crackers were the worst I've eaten! Yuk! I think they left them out to soak up the stale odor in the restaurant. Our waitress the red haired lady named Donna was scarce during the whole meal. She didn't once refill our drinks. Lucky for me I brought a bottle of water in by accident. I was able to refill my own drink! The waitress acted like she had been doing her job so long that she had no genuine interest in waiting tables anymore. We did however have good service from a waitress who was just passing by and we asked her for non stale crackers. She was very helpful and friendly. Final thought? I wouldn't recommend this place for anything more than drinks. I think you'd need to be drinking to fully enjoy anything about this restaurant.

We recently made a visit to Ophelia's for a late dinner. We did not have high expectations, and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and affordability. The bread was surprisingly very good and the salad was not too bad. I had the spaghetti special and ordered a side of sausage to go with the meatball. Although I am not 100% certain, the meatball seemed like it was of the frozen variety, and if that is the case, that is a sin for an Italian restaurant. The sausage was good, the sauce was better than average. The service was good and the server was knowledgable about the menu. The decor was probably inspired by someone longing for the old country. In other words, they need to modernize the interior. All in all, we were reasonably satisfied with our meal, and will probably go back again.

This place is outstanding! We drove by several times because it's in a strip mall & we didn't think it would be good. We were wrong! We ate several meals there on our last visit. Everything was great & reasonable. There's an outdoor area that's dog friendly & they even run a doggie special! The staff & food are great! Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!

Pasta House seems to say Italian and the pasta dishes I've tried lived up to expectations. But going astray to Jambalaya forget it.. It was served with a spoon, presumably for the broth but no broth, just spongy rice. And their pot roast tasted like something from the freezer microwaved. Like I said I should have know better.

Ophelia's (yes, there's another Ophelia's in the area, but the other is a totally different kind of "special occasion" pricey restaurant by the bay in Siesta Key)... THIS Ophelia's is a hopping, fun, casual restaurant for lunch, dinner or simply dessert. My husband and a few friends have cycled in the area and would stop here for dessert, because the portions are large and the dessert prices are great. Having dessert there, mid day - we discovered that Ophelia's is not just a dessert spot - but a great Italian restaurant in the area. The ambience is fun - and the service is very good. The menu is VAST. And meal prices are very reasonable for the huge portion size. The bread before the meal is so delicious - but save room for appetizers and the main course. We began with Mussels - very tender - and Caprese Salad and Fried Calimari. Very good. For the main course I had the Veal Parmesan with eggplant parmesan. Delish. Note that this restaurant offers a WHOLE WHEAT PASTA option which was very much appreciated by our group. Visited again in October, 2011 and discovered there is also a large breakfast/brunch menu... very reasonably priced, so give it a try!

Smelly, greasy and slow service of mediocre food. Not expensive, but not worth it! Too many much better options in the area. This place has been going downhill for years.

Ophelia's used to be really really good, but now that they've changed their ingredients (or something), not so much. I would not recommend it now, there are better options for Italian food around....

Excellent place. Very quiet. Really good food at reasonable price. Nice staff. Soda a bit expensive , but for some reason the root beer was extra excellent . I would recommend this place over a chain restaurant

I have eaten here 3-4 times a week for most of the last year. I like Jim the owner and the staff. Today was the last time I am going in unless the "bathroom stink spray machine" is removed from the foyer. I kind of blasted this (second) time to Jim about being sprayed with the chemicals you normally find in a stinky bathroom. I, again, was spritzed in the nose/mouth while eating and having a beer. The flavor and sensation lasted for about a half hour after I quickly left. (Formaldehyde) The first time I got shot, Jim took the machine off the wall. It was rehung before my next visit and I knew I should just leave but I gave him a second chance and moved my seat down to where Jim sits all day. When it happened today, I let Jim know my true feelings and asked why a bathroom stink machine was used in his eatery AT ALL. He just said "my wife". So long Jim. By the way, your food was disgusting today. I love your prices but can no longer patronize your business based on price alone. It has been fun...

Went here because they are dog friendly. And they are. Enclosed porch, doggie treats, and dog chicken for $1. But they forgot about the people. The place is in a publix mall and very tired decor. I got the BLT sandwich It was wonderbread with 2 thin pieces of bacon, thin tomato slices and one piece of lettuce Fries were cold. My friend got ziti and it was way overcooked and mushy. Won't be back

This is the place to go if you have dogs that you treat like family. There's an entire outdoor dining room where dogs are not only welcome, but encouraged. Even the big, excitable ones. Every dog gets their own big box of chopped chicken breast well before the people food arrives. And the people food is always great too. The waitstaff and owners are always sweet, friendly, efficient, and kind even though I'm sure waiting on dogs can be trying. If you like to take your dogs out for dinner, take 'em to Ophelia's. Always a good time.

We went to this restaurant a couple weeks ago before catching a movie on a Friday night. I found it hysterical that it was all a bunch of old people sitting at the bar, clearly for happy hour (we were there a bit early considering we had a movie to get to at 8.) Why do grey hairs love happy hour so much? Must be because they are cheap. And go to bed at 7:30pm. Anyway... First thing I noticed was this place was much larger than I had anticipated! And although the bar was packed (about 6:15) the rest of the restaurant was fairly empty. But I did notice after we were seated, it started to fill in. The decor leaves a little something to be desired. Fake grapes on wall shelves and an old bottle of wine as a table centerpiece is just a little ehhhh. They need to remodel: I imagine some bold paint on the walls, some nice sconces, and ditch the butcher paper tablecloths. Seriously, not only is that distracting every time a server comes along and rips off a new "tablecloth" but it is a huge waste of paper. Tsk, tsk. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. That's something we all learned about 15 years ago. The menu was great! I had plenty of options but I was more than excited to try the home made meatless lasagna! We had a nice, polite but very shy younger guy serving us. It was by-the-book service, nothing too personal. He did his job just fine but since I am also a server, I desire a little more personal communication. Maybe that's just because that's my style of table service, but I find it lessons the tension between server/customer and well, that's just how I think it should be. I hate awkwardness. Lets just be ourselves. We ordered the fried pickles to start off with, but first we got our salads. My boyfriend enjoyed his lobster bisque but he said he didn't have any actual lobster in it, yet the taste was still great. My caesar salad was a bit sad. Crappy lettuce but ok dressing. Next the pickles which were the spear kind, not the chips, so those were pretty good. After we were done with those it seemed to be taking quite a bit of time for our main entrees to come out. Eventually it got to the point where we needed to leave in 15 minutes, so I mentioned it to our server. Luckily just at that moment the food arrived. I had to eat it a little more rushed than I would prefer but it was still delicious. It was really just spinach and ricotta with noodles and more cheese but it was yummy. I completely forgot was Jake got, but I can tell you he really enjoyed it. Our server was accommodating with our time constraint, he brought out boxes and the check right away. It was a shame we had to rush out like that, but probably partly my fault for assuming the food would be super fast. Next time Ill know to alot ourselves a little more time before we need to be somewhere. We'll definitely try it out again sometime. Just one small thing that pissed me off a little bit. As we were leaving, there was an older woman there who was the manager/owner? possibly, and she was at the server window where the food comes out. There was obviously food up that needed to be run, and instead of moving her lazy hands, she was shouting across the dining room to our server to come pick up his food, while he was in the middle of taking another tables food order. That just bugged me. Maybe cause I know what its like to have douche bag managers that claim to be team players but then at the end of the day all they do is yell at other people to do stuff. In that moment I just really felt for the guy, and probably all the other servers that have to deal with a biatch manager yelling at them all the time. I was just happy we left him a generous tip, hopefully he makes enough money there to compensate for the shit he has to deal with.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
