If you are looking for over-cooked, flavorless food, this is your place. We had the chili verde, Carne asada, and chili con queso. The verde, and asada was dried out and very plain. The queso had no flavor, my kids didn't even eat it, I never thought I would see the day that cheese dip went to waste! This placee is pretty spendy, and not good. We went because it got 5 ststs on yelp. Disappointing. The waiter was super nice, and it was clean.

We stopped on the way out of Mesa Verde. The food was fresh and authentic. I highly recommend the pork...tender and spiced well (I had the burro). The fajitas with chorizo were also excellent. Clean, good service, yum!

YUM! Super authentic food, carnitas, enchiladas and chicken taco were all delicious! If you're leaving Mesa Verde and are in the mood for some comida mexicana, this place is the one!

We not only had a very tasty meal here (enchiladas, tacos special), we want to give Chavalo's a very high review thanks to their kindness and honesty. My husband left his credit card behind, but only realized it when we got to Durango, on our way to the airport. We called when we realized this, and they immediately offered to mail it to our home in California. The credit card just arrived, no charges on it other than what we put on it. Glad we gave them a big tip, but they deserve even more!

The carne asada burritos are excellent. We like ours with rice, beans and guacamole inside. But we take them to go and get a blueberry lemon bar at the Absolute Bakery and go out and have a "picnic".

We spend summers in gorgeous Bayfield. Chavalo's is actual authentic Mexican food. I have tried several different items. Each is delicious. The chips are fresh & not out of a bag. The salsa is sooo good. The portions are large. I have enough for lunch the next day. If you get a chance, stop in. They have a patio. All the locals eat there. It is packed every night.

Quick, attentive, and friendly staff (even when there's a World Cup game being played in the kitchen!). Portions were huge! About $10-12 a plate. Open, casual seating and environment.

The food was great. The service was excellent. I had the spicy pork tacos and they tasted authentic. Wife had the chicken enchiladas and they were delicious. Have eaten there 3 times so far and will be eating there again. Reasonable costs.

I had the enchiladas suizas and my wife had a beef enchilada and a chicken tostada...both were excellent. Good service and reasonable prices

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
