We had a very enjoyable & satisfying dinner! The shrimp ceviche and grilled creole BBQ shrimp were excellent ($8 ea) We tried two of the chalkboard specials: cobia w/ cuban mojo sauce and a lightly blackened mahi mahi w/ a garlic butter sauce ($22 ea). The star of the show - the fish - was fresh, tasty and perfectly prepared. We also had a nice cucumber salad as well. We finished with a coconut cream, kahlua, caramel dessert concoction that really hit the spot. I can't think of a better place locally to get great fresh seafood at a reasonable price. Make reservations though - we sat near the entrance and 4 parties were turned away while we were there...7pm seems to be the prime busy hour (they are open from 5p to 9p)

I lived in Longmont a few years back and this place took me out of Longmont. It was one of the few places to possess a truly Urban feel in Longmont. Then it burnt down. I am so happy to say that I went back on vacation there recently and it was back and in full motion! I had some kind of fish with Mango and I really felt like it was authentic and delicious. They add the perfect spices and recommend the perfect wine!

I recently dined at Tortuga's with friends who had never been there. I raved about it - yummy Caribbean fare. I'll admit, it's been a while since I had been there - maybe 6 years or so? A lot has happened at Torguga's since then. For one, they remodeled the inside (not by choice as they had a fire and were closed for quite a while as they repaired the damages.) Unfortunately, that cute little early 1900's house lost all of its inside charm with the remodel. The most disappointing thing though was the quality of the food and the price we paid for this less than favorable dining experience. Every time that I had dined at Tortuga's before, I was never disappointed, nor was anyone in my party. This time was different. The menu was mostly seafood - I love seafood so that's not a bad thing in my book, but I seem to remember that they had more variety with their proteins. I ordered one of their specials - grouper that was supposedly stuffed with lobster. I never found the lobster though. One of my dinner companions ordered pork chops. When they arrived I could tell just by looking that they were tough - and my observation was confirmed only two bites into my friend's meal. Another person at our table ordered the beef tacos. He sent them back because the meat was so tough, it was inedibe - really, I tried a piece myself. The server apologized and said "beef isn't our specialty" - not exactly what you want to hear when they've got it on the menu. On the plus side, the sangria was really good, as was the creme brulee.

I wish Yelp had half stars so that I could give this place a 4.5 star rating. However Yelp doesn't and I have that good feeling you get from a well prepared meal served with care. The young lady serving us was cute, sweet, and a real pleasure. Wine list had a Bonterra (my favorite organic vineyard) Savinoin Blanc for $24 - very reasonable. The appetizers came out quickly and we surprisingly large. We especially liked the goat cheese and eggplant. The crab cakes were excellent and had a fresh and light flavor. The craw-fish etoufee (sp?) was really great with just the right spice, lots of craw-fish that were tender, and no usual sliminess in texture. Nothing was over salted, everything was hot, and the portions were large - not huge. So why not 5 stars? The half point deduction was for the cold dining room, hard surfaces that made for a bit of a loud evening.

Maybe I went on a bad night. I ordered a simple shrimp dish (in mojo sauce?) with the standard sides of beans, rice and plantains. The beans and rice were undercooked while both the shrimp and plantains were overcooked. Everything on the plate was too hard. The wait staff was understanding and didn't ask me to pay for it. Probably worth another try, but beware, it's not always good.

Solid spot for dinner! I shared the mussels and fried eggplant appetizers, and ordered the Cuban Mojo Mahi Mahi and chocolate bread pudding. The mussels were in a tasty tomato-based sauce with sausage, and the fried eggplant was perfectly crisp with yummy goat cheese. The fish was tender and thankfully, not at all overcooked, but the sauce was a little bit too sour for me. However, a friend who had the same fish didn't think it was too sour, and we also couldn't taste the sage. The beans that came with the main had a little kick to them which was great. I also loved the fried plantains as they weren't sweet and were more like chips. The bread pudding was good, but a little bit too sweet for me-- I couldn't finish all of it. I tried a bite of the key lime pie and it was delicious. Next time, I'll have to try the jumbalaya and etouffee!

My wife and I went to Tortuga's with another couple. They had lived in Haiti for many years and heard of Tortuga's as a recommendation for a Caribbean restaurant. While my friends were slightly disappointed, I thought Tortuga's was great! I had the shrimp ceviche that was very delicious. And then I had the Mahi Mahi with mango. It was very good. My wife's macademian encrusted chicken was awesome too! It had bananas on it! Restaurant is in a house (which was really cool). The decor was pretty neat! The only thing I didn't like, food-wise, was the rice and beans. They were pretty much filler. It's a bit pricey here and there wasn't a lot of parking. But other than those things, I had a great time!

We have been going to Tortugas for years. The food is always fresh and excellent and they pour a great mixed drink! The restaurant has a lot of charm as well.

Last night was our first time at Tortugas, which is unfortunate since it's been here almost 18 years according to our waiter. Should have tried it long ago! We were one of only three parties seated outside - no one inside - and except for the construction noise next door, the early evening setting was great. So was the food. A good mojito to start, followed by the eggplant napoleon and wild mushroom spring roll apps. Specials we selected were the plantain crusted mahi mahi and the crab potato crusted grouper. The fish was done perfectly - the golden brown crust on the grouper sat atop a very large portion of fish, which was in a spinach cream sauce that complimented the fish exactly. The cheese grits side was a little too crispy, but I didn't let that detract from the dish. this was too much food to allow for dessert, so that'll have to wait until next time...which can't come soon enough.

Where do I start? Wow! We dined at Tortuga's a few months ago and I don't know why we haven't returned. This restaurant is in a cozy 2 story house in an older part of Longmont and has a lot of character. The service staff is efficient and knowledgeable. The food is divine, provided you have a taste for Caribbean cuisine (zing!). The place is small, so you're rolling the dice going on the weekend as it fills early. Go there: support local businesses.

This is my favorite Boulder County restaurant. The food is always excellent. The jambalaya is a great standard and is one of my favorite dishes anywhere. Throw in a Bubba's Love Punch to wash it down and that's a satisfying meal. One star off, though, because sometimes the service isn't what it should be, primarily because it seems they often only have one person waiting tables, even on busy nights.

After a long hiatus from going to Tortugas (many reasons - but most notably NO CHANGE in the menu!), we decided to go back to Tortugas for a nice seafood meal. What a disappointment! We used to chat with the owners when we were "regulars" several years ago. We were delighted when we ran into them as we entered, but then were abruptly snubbed and ignored the entire night (even though they passed our table several times). Our server forgot our wine (which did finally arrive after our appetizers were finished). The bread (which arrived at about the same time as our meals) used to be a nice focaccia along with a few muffins. Now it's 2 small pieces tossed on a plate with no thought. My Jamaican Jerk fish (they ran out of the catch of the day and offered salmon as a replacement. I opted for mahi-mahi) was dry and bland. The shrimp callaloo was tasty, but the portion about half the size it used to be. To their credit, our server did give us a complimentary key lime pie due to the mix-up with the wine. We have made three attempts in the past year to try Tortugas and have had similar experiences each time - previously chalking it up to a bad night; but 3 times in the past year with the same experience is enough for us. Sadly, we will not be back.

Sigh. I really want to give this restaurant more, but for what I paid, the meal was pretty bland. Can't remember exactly what fish I got, but for $20 it was just okay. The rice was pretty boring, that is definite. I was also disappointed in the wine we chose. It was a Spanish red, that was also just okay. For $80, I was hoping for more "wow." I'll try it again, but probably only to get the cheapest item on the menu.

For some seriously yummy fish prepared in all sorts of styles, check out Tortuga's! Tortuga's is a cute little seafood/Caribbean/Creole/Mexican/Asian restaurant in a semi-residential area of Longmont (it's in a little house, really!) Honestly, the food is in its own genre because it can't really even fit into those five I mentioned. I highly recommend trying the fresh catch of the day (mahi is the one I tried, and it was delicious with the mojo preparation!) or any of the specials they have listed on the board for something a little out-of-the-ordinary. My husband had a really neat potato-crusted grouper dish with creamed spinach. We both loved our dishes, and the appetizer we split (the salmon/wasabi wontons, which are kind of like deconstructed wontons and definitely worth a try!) The place was pretty quiet (I loved that) and had a cozy fire in the fireplace in the main dining room while we were there, which was really relaxing. For a unique and yummy experience, I'd definitely recommend eating at Tortuga's!

We were very excited to find that there is a Caribbean influenced restaurant in the area. We had visited a handful of Caribbean restaurants back east and I have spent a bit of time in the Dominican Republic. So I know what good Caribbean food should taste like. In the end, it was a pleasant experience, but the food didn't quite live up to our expectations. The restaurant is very quaint and classy located in Old Town Longmont in a converted older home. They do a great job of setting the mood. Our server was not bad but did forget about us upstairs, leaving us drink-less for extended periods of time. We ordered the fried plantains and guac, which is one of my favorite Caribbean tapas with crispy chip-like sliced plantains and fresh made guac, but what we received was mashed up, over salted, deep fried goop that didn't compliment the tasty guac at all. The main dishes that we ordered were crawfish etoufee and the special, which wasn't memorable. The food was tasty, but just didn't live up to the flavors that we were hoping to experience based on previous Caribbean restaurants that we have visited. The food especially didn't warrant the $15-$20 a plate that they wanted. We might try it again someday, but Tortuga's didn't live up to our hopes and expectations.

What a great change of pace from all the ho-hum same cuisine around these parts. Three of us dined here on a Friday evening in late September. We had the salmon wontons (fish was smoked, so a bit salty, but otherwise tasty), jambalaya (the F-i-L raved about his dish), and a couple of their seafood specials, which were quite good for this land-locked state. I have to dock them a star because the place is a bit too noisy (maybe some carpet would help absorb some of the decibels), and the busboys were sooooooo obtrusive in the way the patrolled such a small, sorta crowded area, ever on the lookout for glasses that they deemed needed to be topped off.

  • Amy S.

I fell in love with opah here. Every meal I've had here has been unique, special, and delicious. Beyond that, I love that the staff seems to welcome a small group that is laughing, a little loud and raucous without being rude to fellow diners. For a little larger group, eat upstairs and you can be even more silly. They have such a great selection of tasty foods and creative beverages, that you'll never fall into a food rut.

Had dinner here last Friday night, $118 before tip for three people (with one bottle of wine). New Zealand Sauv Blanc $28 - not a great wine list but they had a few interesting items - I've also had good mixed drinks here before, a Mohito in particular I remember as being very well done- Smoked Salmon app $9 Ceviche app $9 Grouper special Crawfish Etouffe (best one I've had sine NOLA, or maybe my husband's) Mahi Mahi No dessert, too full (and we took leftovers home, at least one full meal's worth) Service was very good The place was PACKED by the time we left at 7, our resy was a 530 and that was a good idea to get a resy- It's been awhile since I've been to this place, it's in a converted house in a residential neighborhood in Longmont, very quiet and unassuming while still serving consistently good quality food. Lucky Longmont for having this gem in their midst, and with such reasonable prices! On the whole, this and my Toro sushi dinner were my favorite dining experiences on this trip. I'll definitely be back again, it's worth the drive.

We had the Mojo Chicken and the Voodoo Chicken (both $15 because we were too cheap to pay $21+ for seafood). The Mojo was decent but not exciting enough to order again. The Voodoo was great. It would have been nice to have a choice of sides instead of only collard greens. Wonderful patio experience. Lindsey did a great job as the server. I would recommend that they print out their daily specials because it's take forever to repeat them to each guest that arrives. I made a reservation for my group of 20 to come and I thought they would be happy to have the business but instead they made me feel like I was causing an imposition and had a long list of concerns (we had to order food not just drinks and we couldn't take up tables for too long). Anyhow, it all worked out fine once we got there and they could see that our group bought meals and drinks and were good paying customers but I wished they were more enthusiastic about it in the beginning.

Definitely one of the best patio dining places around. Didn't feel the food was up to snuff given the price. So kind of torn because it's definitely the type of place I'd like to frequent but really couldn't afford to on a whim and it's not good enough to be special occasion good. Nobody raved about it when we drove home and I didn't find myself wondering when I could come back. We tried the "catch" prepared different ways. I ate my sides and picked at the fish. Wasn't bad it just didn't work. The flavor and presentation reminded me of eating at one of my friends houses when they are trying to impress. It sort of looked the part but didn't deliver on wow factor. Something was lacking in the execution it didn't taste chef prepared or conceived. I actually tossed my leftovers. Nothing bad to report it just didn't work. If it was priced in the $10-15 entrée and $5-6 call drink range it would be my go to place.

  • Kevin C.

Quite underwhelming, service was just okay, the food was underseasoned, and it really isn't as special as the price would indicate. Certainly a bad first impression.

Finally made it in for a full meal and did not disappoint. Apps were moderately sized and good, although the weakest point of the meal (maybe 3* here). Two kinds of fish were eaten - both were cooked perfectly, great toppings, and large portions. We also had alcohol - a beer for FIL and a cocktail for me, again, both were great and went well with the food. Desserts held up to previous expectations and were yummy and decently sized. Service was nice and pace was ok, although we were relaxing on the patio and enjoying the evening in no hurry. When it got dark, it was a bit odd on the patio since the lighting is low, but overall a nice place to visit and have a meal.

This place was great, food was good, seafood fresh and good run drinks. Not much to look at inside so sit on the patio. We will be back.

Super nice place in an old house with a courtyard. Caribbean and Creole fusion dishes dot the menu. We had a fish special (Madras spiced ahi tuna) and Jerked Pork Chop. The fish had a nice crust and a perfect medium rare interior. The chop was a little overcooked and lacked the heat I was expecting, but was very flavorful. Service was team oriented and perfect. Indoor or outside, the side-street ambiance is great.

I LOVE restaurants that make me feel like I'm on vacation!!! It's an unassuming little house one street over from main. Their greenery is growing a bit over the sign so it might be hard to spot...but don't drive by, you'll be missing a gem! They have the perfect sized menu with an array of options for every taste, from gumbo, to fried shrimp, to sea bass. We had the coconut shrimp and yucca crusted sea bass. Both excellent. And the interior is well appointed and local artists art adorns the wall for purchase, which I'm such a fan of. It's a delightful place to escape for a Caribbean feel meal. they have a gorgeous outdoor patio for when the Colorado weather isn't playing tricks on you and an upstairs bar. So many places in this little house to explore. Go and escape for a night. You won't be disappointed.

First, let me say that the ambiance of this restaurant is the best thing about this place. If you have extra money laying around and want to impress a date with an intimate restaurant in longmont with art on the walls, this might be good choice. The service is slow, the food and drinks are horrendously overpriced especially given that this restaurant is in Longmont (not Boulder or Denver), and the food just really isn't very good-especially given the poor service and prices. Having lived in the Bahamas for two years and traveling around in that region of the world, I can say that this food is not authentic whatsoever. If the cook is from the Caribbean then they must be one of the worst Caribbean cooks alive. I really do like that this restaurant has a unique feel, idea, and is "local" which is why I'm giving it two stars rather than one. Sorry! I genuinely wanted to like this restaurant!

  • Doug W.

In Town on business and found this on Yelp great experience. Had the ahi special. Great presentation and right quantity. Ate outside in the courtyard. Definitely recommend. Pay attention to location as it is not on a Main Street and could be easily missed.

Tastes that explode on your palate! Easily in the top 5 best restaurants in Longmont. They fly in the "fresh catch of the day", and you can choose to have it fixed one of three ways (if I recall). I chose the Mahi Mahi Vera Cruz and it was absolute heaven on a plate. Two others in my party chose the fresh Grouper that night and said it was exquisite. Their Key Lime pie rivals that which I tasted in Key West! I can't imagine a single dish not being good at this fabulous, quaint and adorable restaurant. The wait staff are wonderfull; efficient and very friendly. We went there with my Meetup, a Longmont Over 40 Social Club, and they accommodated the separate checks without a single problem. A wonderful gem of a place!

My wife and I have been there a few times in the last year. Every time the food was very good and the service attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is deceptive. If you just walked in you would not expect the food to be as good as it is. The fish is always fresh and well prepared. The only issue I have is that the hush puppy left a bit to be desired. One of, if not the best restaurants in town.

It's kind of a drive from Golden, and not much to look at, but I was so impressed with the food and the service at Tortuga, I'll drive there for another special meal anytime. The voodoo sauce is killer. The eggplant appetizer was dreamy and perfect. And the chocolate cake thing for dessert, with the caramel flavored sauce...I was transported. It's worth the drive for that alone! They could use some Jamaica in the decor and music, but that's a minor detail. If you like delicious food - don't miss out on Tortuga.

Just LOVE this place especially in the summer in the late evening under the trees in the courtyard with the tiny lights and stars, very romantic and lovely. Food is so good, and I love the trendy various appys they come up with. I think their desserts are some of the best in the county and definitely savor worthy. I have never had anything here I didn't just love. My one surprise is when I came with my partner one evening at 8 30 on weekend, I admit it was a slow evening but we were very literally rushed out. I understand everyone wants to get home after a long day of work but it was not that late... so. BUT Ill go earlier and enjoy every delicious bite.

My wife and I have been to Tortuga's a few times. Here are my thoughts. Food is great. It seems fresh, the sauces are unique and well worth the try. You can be adventuresome, as few of the tastes are very overwhelming. The only reason for the lack of 4-5 stars would be service. If it's busy and you get seated upstairs, you better have a lot of time on your hands. We will be back to give it another try.

Lovely solo meal on the patio. My server was great and had great advice in helping me select an entree (the grouper Barbados which was excellent). Cocktail was delicious (Jamaican Donkey). The patio is great. Quiet, bug free and cool. The meal had appropriate portion sizes. Great flavor balance. Overall, super friendly, delicious and prompt. Glad I found them off Main Street!

I did not like this place at all, we made a reservation a full two days in advance. We' are not allowed to sit outside told first come, service is terrible, slow and rude. Food is way over priced for jumbo plate of beans and rice. Not too impressed, we were told 45 mins to sit on patio, shortly after we agreed to sit inside, they sat several groups out there. Skip this one, no thank you!

Excellent fish entrees. Don't mind the reviews about the rice and beans. They are the perfect compliment to complex main courses. I love eating on the back patio on a warm summer evening. The atmosphere is perfect for a family gathering or a romantic dinner. The service was very good. We were fortunate to have one of the owners waiting on us. She was delightful. We will be back!

I had new idea that a seafood restaurant of this quality would exist in Longmont. (No offense, Longmont... I'm just new to the area and haven't explored very deeply.) The atmosphere itself kind of takes you out of the Longmont feeling. It's just a little more sophisticated than what you'd see on the main drag of Main Street - yet it has all the charm and whimsical qualities of a local establishment. And the fish was actually very good. Seems fresh. I'm a coastal boy, so I'm usually a bit hesitant when it comes to fish in the inlands, but I have enough confidence in this place to bring visiting friends and family. Granted, they use a lot of bold flavors, so it isn't all about the simplicity of the fish itself. But if you're looking for that cajun or creole plate, this should satiate your craving. I'm glad to have this place in town.

It's been years since I've been to Tortugas, perhaps right after the kitchen fire (how many years ago was that?) They did a great job of restoring the building; but less of a job of restoring the ambiance and attitude that made Tortuga's special. We took some old and new friends there for dinner recently. The upstairs bar, which was glorious in it's funkyness before the fire, now has the ambiance of a DMV. Boring furniture and not much character. The same could be said of the service, which was indifferent, at best. We'd tried to walk into a newer Mexican place a block away, and was told there would be a 90 minute wait. We walked to Tortugas instead. There were many empty tables at 7 on a Saturday night. The wait staff was slow, seemed unfamiliar with the menu and was fairly unenthusiastic. Once they served the food, I could see why. Whatever happened there? The Jambalya has the spiciness of a bowl of oatmeal. My Jerk Pork was barely warm and was a stingy portion, at that. Pretty much everyone at our table was underwhelmed. It's a shame, as this was once a favorite for us. Maybe we hit an off night, but it will be a long time before we return to see.

My husband and I went to Tortuga's for the first time since it was in Boulder's Best of. We were skeptical because the prices were more than we would normally pay for a weekday dinner. I ordered the $24 mahi mahi, my husband ordered the jambalaya and we split a side of shrimp and crawfish dirty rice. I asked for a side of beans and rice instead of the original sides it came with. These were seriously black beans from a can they decorated with a swirl of sour cream and the rice was just plain white rice. My mahi was very much undercooked and it was a small piece at that and absolutely nothing special about the seasoning. The jambalaya was very mediocre and served as a small portion. I think I could have made a tastier jambalaya using Zatarain's. The dirty rice was pretty tasty, but not sure if I would go back to Tortuga's for a side of rice. Overall, very disappointed about paying $60 for a dinner that was not filling, not fresh and not tasty at all (except for the dirty rice). Just go to Lucile's for Jambalaya.

No more vegetarian entree options! I noticed they didn't have them listed any longer on the website menu, but I really expected they would put something together. Not so much! Instead of a real entree, I had the pleasure of piecing together a meal of appetizers and sides. What a disappointment. I won't be returning unless vegetarian options are added back to the menu.

This place is strange. Very nice people working there, but sort of has that strange Longmont vibe to it...sort of trying to be fine dining, but can't quite pull it off, do you know what I am saying? The food isn't really bad, but doesn't really live up to the ambitiousness of merging Caribbean and Cajun.

As we walked up to the unassuming house that Tortuga's calls home, I couldn't help but think that the style seemed strictly southern. It reminded me of a restaurant I used to visit with my grandmother during my childhood, one where I learned to love seafood and cornbread. I thought, "we're in land-locked Colorado. There is no way this place can be as good as I hope it is." I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was wrong. Tortuga's offers excellent, reasonably priced seafood. I enjoyed grouper stuffed with crab, topped with a red pepper butter sauce. It was succulent and quickly rekindled an old love of southern seafood dishes. The food was excellent and the service was acceptable, if a little slow. Whole Tortuga's is quite far from my normal dining route, I will return again.

Definitely worth visiting. My wife had the scallops that were on special and found them to be just heavenly. I order the chicken and it was disappointing but the beans were the best I've ever had. The service was wonderful and the wine recommendation went beautifully with both our meals.

Sat out on the patio on a Beautiful Colorado summer night. We were seated promptly. I was pleasantly surprised to see Stone IPa on the beer menu for the same price as a Bud Light....score! The tomato habanero soup was seasoned with just the right amount of habanero....the mahi mahi I ordered was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. My only small fault was that it was a bit on the small side for the price. That said, it was well preapred. Service was pleasant and on point. I enjoyed my experience and will visit again.

Like Sara S., I have been disappointed in my entrees at Tortuga's. They have been bland and overpriced. They just seem really uninspired. I have kept going back for three reasons. 1) The bread pudding is phenomenal. 2) Their margaritas and other cocktails are really delish. 3) They have a great patio and upstairs bar area. Next time I go back, I'll probably get a soup and salad which would be better options than any of the entrees I've gotten. I would love for the people at Tortuga's to step it up. We are happy to have them in Longmont.

This is absolutely the best restaurant in Longmont, and probably Boulder county. Pete, the chef, is an artist with food. The crawfish etoufee is to die for, and if that isn't enough, end the night with the chocolate bread pudding covered with bourbon sauce. I've eaten all over the world and this is my favorite place to eat.

Longmont tends to be a dining wasteland, but Tortuga's has an excellent reputation... so I went here for a yummy meal with Mr. R. with high expectations. There aren't very many restaurants in Longmont that people really recommend. The food was excellent - I had the catch of the day and it was very fresh. Best part was the service was super quick... I hate hanging around for my food and drink service. The place is cute - and old house with a lot of charm. Minus a star because it was pretty loud in there and a little drafty. Also the window in the the bathroom stall was a little weird. Also thought it was a little on the pricey side - $100 for dinner and drinks for two. Guess that's what you can expect though, at one of the only decent restaurants in Longmont.

My husband and I were visiting in town and asked for a recommendation for a restaurant and Tortuga's name came up. We were so glad we followed through and tried them out. Very warm comfortable dining in an old home - we scored a table right next to the fireplace. We started with fried plaintains with guacamole, very delicious. We had two dinners - crusted mahi mahi with a corn green chili sauce served with black beans and rice, and grilled shrimp with butternut squash in a coconut curry sauce along with the obligatory black beans and rice. Both dishes were good, but the shrimp was exceptional - the sauce was just perfect. My only suggestion would be instead of serving focaccia, that they have mini corn muffins or cornbread to keep with an authentic caribbean flavor. Other than that, the meal was just perfect. We were too full to try their desserts, so can't make any suggestions there. But I wouldn't hesitate to recommend dining here again and would even drive out of our way to enjoy their flavors of the islands!

I grew up in Longmont and this is one of the few reasons that I will willfully drag my ass down I-25 to return. Chef Pete is just as likely to throw a wasabi-soy dressing on an exotic piece of mahi mahi or opah as he will a jerk or mojo sauce, which makes "Caribbean" a pretty loose genre for this place. But it simply doesn't matter how authentic it may be. Whether it's rich crawfish etoufee or a spicy-sweet Asian infusion, Tortugas just does fish better than anyone else. But don't mistake Tortugas for a one-trick pony. Appetizers here- like the smoked salmon and wasabi wontons and fresh shrimp ceviche- could be easily coupled with some of bartender Tammy's stiff cocktails for a tapas and drinks night (try the Tamtini- a one-two Chambord and Vodka punch that crates a warm euphoria much like laying on a sunny Jamaican beach). I don't make it to Tortugas a lot these days, but so long as they keep serving that ceviche and their absolutely sublime Key Lime pie, I'll keep coming back home for it.

Interesting I give a lesser restaurant 5 stars and this 4, this is because of expectation! The food here is very good, but for the price it should be composed a bit more. I found the sides to be solid, would have liked to see plantains prepared in a savory manner, they're fried, but fried crisp is not traditional in Caribbean cuisine. No "peppapot", cou-cou or callaloo? *kissteeth* These are home dishes, but it doesn't mean you can't use the tradition of these to create something worthy of a masterpiece. The inspiration is scattered, even suggesting an interpretive view would not categorize this into a solid title of Caribbean. Mojo is played out and seemed to be the offering, where is the red butter sauce? I'm not suggesting you have to be traditional, it's not like I'm asking for curry goat, oxtail, saltfish and fungi, conch, roti or a guava tart. I've sailed throughout the Caribbean from the Keys to the West Indies, I've had Caribbean food prepared a million different ways.... There is one thing that remains in every single dish that I have savored.... Soul! There is a definite component of soul missing in the dishes offered here, solid sides, well seasoned and well prepared fish.... It's missing the sauce, the BRAATA that speaks to the soul and makes it BOONOONOONOUS.

An unusual place, for Longmont. Don;t be fooled by the location, or the decor, its the food that you are there for. I Had the Jamaican Jerk Salmon; it was deliciously prepared. Service was excellent, although it was not very busy on an early Wednesday night.

Top notch for Longmont. Great environment, good service. Reminds me of my favorite haunt from NOLA...Cafe Atchafalaya. This is where the wife and I go for a night out to unwind and relax, sip some wine by candlelight. Little bit on the pricey side but have had some creative entrees that are just great comfort food. Fish is always good and fresh and simple menu is nice. Desserts are fantastic also. Based on about 4-5 visits.

I had a Mahi Mahi with Cuban Mojito. The fish was really fresh and perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, taste was bland. Both the fish and the mojito were under seasoned. The plating needs improvement. The plate looked like it came from a cafeteria kitchen.

One of my all time favorites without schlepping to Denver. The menu is small but everything is a good choice!! Where else can you find yucca crusted mahi mahi or bacon wrapped shrimp with a lime sauce. I am drooling just thinking about it. True, main dining area is a bit loud, not for romantic evenings. The bar upstairs is small and has a few seating areas, quieter up there, and there is the patio which is great in the summer because it's on a side street with little noise.

Tortuga's has been a Longmont mainstay for so many years. It is "the place to go" for dining and catching up with an old friend. The atmosphere is cozy and usually good for visiting. Their fish is done to perfection, and meals are unique. They have a nice wine list and offer appropriate pairing suggestions. i've been going there for years and have never been disappointed in a meal. Generally you have to wait for a table, but there's a bar upstairs.
