Best BBQ on the Western Slope! The owners are great and the wait staff phenomenal. The smell greets you at the door, as the brick smokers heat up the place! If you make it on Sunday, don't miss out on the prime rib...to die for. Daily specials are all homemade! Monday and Tuesday breakfast is homemade chicken fried steak with homemade gravy - my fav! A definite must-NOT miss!

Yet another gem in this area, Zacks is a Hotchkiss landmark and a destination for locals as well as visiting hunters, fishermen and vacationers. You'll find the Texas-style barbecue and everything else on the menu to be always good, served up promptly by friendly wait staff and they're open for breakfast lunch and dinner. Zacks is located behind and just around the corner from the City Market and it's definitely worth your time to check the place out if you're in the area. Zacks is amazing!! Their food is amazing I seriously suggest getting the Grilled cheese sandwich it is to die for!! Their staff is always friendly and nice and if you start it they can be delightfully playful!

The locals' favorite, but the locals don't get around much to know anything different. Small salads were a pile of... iceberg and one measly slice of tomato! How cheap can one get?? Get with the program might be an understatement.

The food at Zacks BBQ is okay at best (not bad BBQ for west of KC) and the service is barely ok during non peak hours. If your hungry for breakfast on Sunday morning your better off waiting for your hens to lay some eggs because It took a literal hour before I had enough and walked out on my order. I left a 5$ for the coffee and won't be going back. The establishment was only operating at half capacity and couldn't keep up with the orders. I had to go home and cook for myself and to be honest I feel like I did a better job anyways. While zacks is cheap I feel like i get a better value for the dollar when I eat elsewhere or cook for myself. This restaurant needs to re organize its m.o... No pork?? BBQ place w no friggin pulled pork?? Seriously not impressed. Chopped beef sanni was fair but crap buns and pickles don't compliment the beef well. Colorado Red necks must not know much about BBQ

Pretty mediocre. Brisket was dry, coleslaw was funky, potatoe salad was forgetful, ribs half decent, beans alright, a cold cashier, but friendly owner. Best thing was the bbq sauce.

This place was recommended by the gas station in town as we search to try some local Colorado beef. Walked in to apple wood smoked house. What a salivating aroma!! Staff were very friendly and gave good recommendation. We had French Dip & chili burgers and we were very impressed! The meat was tender and juicy, the dip flavorful but not too salty or overpowering. Potato salad tasted fresh. The pies were to die for. love the lax vibe. Visited here by chance but highly recommended.

I visited during the sheep dog competition, so the place was packed and we had to wait for about twenty minutes. The huge brick oven/smoker is right up front where you check in. You can't miss it; it radiates a LOT of heat. They also slice the beef right there and it looks and smells wonderful, which really gets your appetite going. They use 100% apple wood here and I greatly prefer the milder flavor it imparts to the meat compared to hickory. The tables have plastic tablecloths and a roll of paper towels, which is great for when things get messy. This is beef country, so that's what on the menu, not pork. I had what is probably the most popular menu item, the chopped beef sandwich special, which consists of TWO sandwiches and a choice of a side (see photo). The meat was tender and full of excellent, mildly smoked flavor and the sauce was not overbearing, which allowed the flavor of the delicately smoked beef to come through. I ordered fries as my side and they were perfectly cooked, crisp and not greasy at all. The prices here are extremely reasonable. The special I ordered was $5.25 but a single sandwich is only $3.75!!! The "Combination" is a huge - easily enough for two - platter of beef and chicken and comes in under $9. Upon leaving I noticed their stack of seasoned apple wood on the front porch and went back inside to ask if I could buy a couple pieces for my smoker. The owner came out a minute later and told me he thought it was great that I asked because most people simple grab it without asking or paying. He hand picked a a few choice pieces, gave me some quick smoking advice and refused to take my money. That's worth another star but I'm already at five.

I am not sure what the others are thinking but I just don't get the love for this place? I have been twice now, as I call on an account in Hotchkiss and the options there are limited. Both experiences have been disappointing in regards to both food and service. I kinda get the feeling that maybe they don't take too kindly to fancy city-slickers sittin' at their establishment? Or maybe they are just rude country bumpkins that don't have strong customer service skills? Eitherway, I likely won't be back since the food isn't good enough to bother with.

Ordered a beef dinner then received ribs, sent it back, the beans were cold and the beef not tender and also cold. Just disappointed.

Unexpected quality in isolated location. Chopped barbecue sandwich was good but ask for extra sauce. Brisket was like butter. Perfectly cooked. No mayonnaise cole slaw wAs good. Coconut creme pie was light on coconut but great crust

We eat at Zacks as often as we can when visiting the Northfork Valley. Can't decide what we like better - their wonderful breakfasts (heavenly meats) or smoked meat dinners. Usually have BBQ Beef dinner - lean tender beef smoked to perfection. Good slaw & potato salad, too. If you love pintos & beef, NOTHING beats the Cowboy Bowl. Wish we lived closer!!!
