Great food, but the service is what won me over. I loved the staff's friendly and helpful attitude. We're here visiting from out of town, and they welcomed us with open arms.

The BEST GREEN CHILI! And I'm not kidding. It was flavorful, not overwhelmed with spice. The atmosphere is mom and pop, but the food makes it 5 stars! I had the Juniper. It puts the chains to SHAME! First time I've ever thought a place should Harvey more, so they could expand.

This was the best breakfast ever and the service was wonderful!! Wish we lived closer. (the young man who bussed the tables was the glue that held it all together) Awesome!!!

Love love love this place. It is like the great diners I remember from the 80s. nothing fancy, just good old American food quick and cheap. Breakfast is awesome!

And we did go back and brought friends. Had another GREAT BREAKFAST. And then they told our hockey team about JC's and more people came. If you are in the area, stop by. It's REALLY GOOD.

My kind of place! Home with someone else's drama. Hot food, hot coffee, mismatched cutlery. G-Bless you all, and I am not even spiritual! The chicken-fried steak is superb, the biscuits and pancakes beautiful fluffy softness.

John and Chris, the owners, are extremely kind and welcoming. Ever since we've been going here, they've remembered us and always make it a point to come chat with us for a bit if they have time. The portions are always good, and they will always re-make something if it is not exactly what you want. Everything has always been delicious and their ever-changing breakfast specials are always a treat!

Had breakfast at J.C's my last morning in Golden. It is a divey little place with good coffee and decent food. I had french toast and my travel buddy had pancakes and hash browns. The meal was good, the coffee was good enough and the waitress was great! I very much enjoyed my breakfast here.

Loved the Bacon and Egg breakfast burrito. Very cool place inside too. Service was friendly and seemed like a fun atmosphere.

Having recently moved to Golden, I've driven by the sign they have out front for the best food in town about a half dozen times before actually stopping in one day for brunch. It was everything it's little sign said and more! Although not very big this little place packs a whole bunch of personality. I personally love the community dive-y vibe. It is not very big so I can imagine you can prepare to wait on a busy morning but stick around because it will be worth it. While you are waiting there's plenty of odds and ends from the floor to ceiling to keep your eyeballs entertained. The menu is pretty big and has something to offer everyone. I am a huge country fried steak fanatic and had to order that. It was amazing and left me licking my plate with no regrets about the 1000+ calories I easily inhaled. The best part is you can upgrade your side order of toast to pancakes or french toast for less than $2....wowza! My partner in dine ordered their signature dish, Mass Confusion. Imagine everything you want in a diner breakfast piled on top of biscuits and smothered in gravy. Oh yeah, it was that good. We can't wait to go back again. Everything is reasonably priced and we filled out stomachs without emptying our wallets. The two of us left stuffed with a left over box for under $15. Next time you want to get down to business and skip the frills, head to JC's and induce your next food coma.

I'm giving this restaurant five stars because I can't say anything bad about it. I took my 82-year-old mother to get a Colorado ID in Golden and wasn't sure where to eat, and then I saw good reviews at J.C's Cafe. Since it was early for lunch, it wasn't too busy. Everyone was very friendly right off. We ordered cheeseburgers and fries -- very simple. While we waited for the food, I looked around at the decor. I thought a vet must own the cafe, because of the memorabilia. Plus the chef was wearing a flag kerchief. When the burgers came, I liked that there were two types of cheese on them. I'm picky about burgers and I loved this one. So did my mom. While we were eating, the chef (John) came out and asked how our burgers were and I told him they were perfect. I asked who owned the cafe and he said he and his wife did. I asked if he was a vet, and he said no but he loved his country and then he pointed out that the wall I had been looking at was dedicated to his uncle, who was a vet. I told him I liked the cafe and I would definitely be back with my husband, because I thought he would as well.

While the atmosphere is definitely different; the food quality and quantity was fantastic for the price. The restrooms were also decent!

My husband and I have been regulars here on weekend mornings for 4+ years and absolutely love it! We're usually in and out in 40 minutes (if we're in a rush), and the food is consistently good. No frills here- just good old fashioned diner fare, and the portions are great, especially given the low prices. The staff has always been friendly and even when they're slammed they make a point to bring coffee and check in with you to let you know you're not forgotten. To those complaining about slow service- all I can say is, I think they do a bang up job. If you expect ultra-fast service at a diner at 10 am on a weekend, you're going to be disappointed just about anywhere. Also, the decorations. You just gotta see it for yourself! It just gets better every time we go!

This is a family style diner that you must stop into for breakfast. The owner herself waited on me and was as friendly as could be. The food was absolutely outstanding I would recommend it to anybody. Enjoy

DELICIOUS! Stopped by this little place with some friends after noticing great reviews on Yelp... And those reviews were spot on! Read on for review breakdown... Or just skip my words and get to this place for breakfast as fast as you can! Food: One of the best breakfasts we've ever had. Best bacon by far. The mass confusion is truly massive. The pancakes were light and fluffy. All four of us ordered different meals and all left satisfied. Service: excellent! Our waitress worked her tail off doing it all; hosting, serving, cleaning, etc. Atmosphere: small town, hole-in-the-wall-don't-blink-or-you'll-miss-it.

Great local joint to fill up on incredible no-bull breakfast. I got the mass confusion with bacon- a flying saucer of awesome. Truly love this hole in the wall for its no frills, just straight up and down delicious food and the relaxed friendly staff

First time we tried it, place is small so you might have to wait for a table, but we got a table for two quickly. I got the chicken fried steak and gravy, comes with two eggs, hash browns and toast. My food was delicious, however my boyfriend got the smothered burrito. It was a large portion, good for someone who is hungry, but not only was the green chili kind of cold (colder than luke warm), but so was the inside of the burrito. We sent it back to get it warmed up, it returned two minutes later and felt maybe 2 degrees warmer. Plus the hash browns inside the burrito were burnt. He wasn't too pleased with it.

  • Angel O.

Great diner with greasy, home cookin! The decor may throw you off a bit but that's part of this place's charm. Awesome hash browns and pancakes! Super sweet service and handmade chocolate milk. Try the hockey puck for dessert.

  • Pomponia S.

Friendly staff, quick service. Cheerful decor. Good prices. The food was "ok". Stick to simple breakfast choices. We enjoyed the french toast but the green chile was definitely lacking in flavor, it also came out cold and the coffee was weak. I will give it another try because I really want to like this place more. It's nice to have a local Mom n Pop breakfast place to hit up during the week. Note: I bet this place gets packed on the weekend considering they stay fairly busy on week days.

On our way to Heritage Square we wanted to hit up a hole for breakfast ... mistake of the century, man. THE YAYS 1. Definitely a hole, 1 star for that 2. Breakfast of hangover champions, 1 star 3. The food was better than Denny's (goes with #2's star). THE NAYS 1. Arrival Time: 10:00 am Food Arrival Time: 10:42 am 2. Service: 1 out of 5 stars 3. The (very annoyed) Chef was NOT wearing gloves. If I wasn't accompanied by a 4 and 7 year old who were both outwardly expressing their hunger pains due to waiting over 40 minutes for our meals, I would have walked when I saw this about 90 seconds before our food arrived. 4. When you walk in, you're not sure what the hell to do. There's no signage (i.e. please seat yourself/please wait to be seated) and no one spoke to us. We had to flag down a waitress and even after that, our seating situation was totally awkward. It was the day before a holiday, July 3, and maybe they were understaffed because someone underestimated the traffic but for the size of the place, the staff quantity seemed sufficient. The insufficient support of a Manager or Management team is where they seemingly failed. There was a constant wait at the register as well, either people needing a table or needing to cash out. A table of police officers stood there for over 12 minutes trying to pay their bill. I would not return to this Cafe, nor would I recommend it.

There are lots of current reviews that rate this at least a 4 star, and if you are reading this review defiantly give it a try. I will be coming back to this restaurant again. Service: The service was quite good, our waiter was nice and friendly and check on us a appropriate number of times. The other person I was with ordered a half burrito but got a full size, it was okay because we got it for the price of half a burrito. They also took my late request for hot chocolate. The main con was they ran out of Spinach and I had ordered an omelet that included it, this was a bit disappointing. Food: The burrito was delicious and very well done. Each breakfast said they came with a side of toast but we both did not get any which was also a downside. My omelet was good, but a little bit too cheeses the hash browns were delicious though. Overall would love to come back when they have spinach and see if they give me toast next time. I would recommend and will update this review when I come back. :)

The old Shorty Lu's! Moved down the road my senior year of college and we'd make weekly Sunday trips as roommates for breakfast/brunch. While I recommend other breakfast burrito establishments in Golden, to each their own. But you can never go wrong with the Mass Confusion. Hands down. (I like to ask for an extra egg or two and extra bacon every now and then.) Their square meals and omelets are other great alternatives I go to, and if you're not too hungry, their daily breakfast specials are a solid deal. *Tip: Upgrade your toast to french toast for only $1 more! Makes daily breakfast specials a steal!

Great hearty breakfast. Our table ordered 2 mass confusions, a half mass and a juniper omelet. The boys ordered the full order of mass and barely cleaned their plate. Juniper omelet was very good with the green chili.

Ok I do have to say I was a little taken aback when we walked inside. Being from the South, I'm use to casual diners, just wasn't quite expecting it. Pros: best oj we've had in Colorado. My short stack was delicious. Hubby's eggs over easy done really well. Would have been great with grits but we're in CO so hash browns it was. The outer taters nice and crispy but inside cooked too quickly and could have been cooked longer. Cons: flies everywhere. If you're squeamish, this could really bother you. And there were a couple of younger employees just wandering around doing nothing. It's a small place and having folks just wander with nowhere to go and do nothing just get in the way. We'll probably be back especially if looking for a late day breakfast.

I'm in a state of mass confusion and I am happy to be that way. Not a place I ever would have stepped foot into if not for yelp. It's hard not to think you are in Arkansas when you are in here. But seriously - recommend going here and ordering the mass confusion. You won't be disappointed.

I love a good dive restaurant for my breakfast fix. I knew it was promising when the sign out front said "warning: you are passing the best food in town." I had the Paul Bunyon and it was great! I was very impressed with the biscuits and gravy. It gave me chance to try a little bit of everything and I definitely couldn't finish it all. My boyfriend had the Country fried steak. He said it was filling and delicious. They are only open until 2:00. We came around 1:00 and you could tell the staff was exhausted. Tip your breakfast servers well, folks!!

The good: Being from the South, I enjoy a simple pork tenderloin sandwich. JC's is the first place I've been able to find one although it was flat-top fried instead of battered and deep fried. The waitress also took care of the check (see below as to why). The bad: The service flat out was poor. I was told to seat myself (no problem here as it's a small diner with only about 10 tables) but waited at least 5 if not 10 minutes for a menu. I ordered coffee to drink. I think they had used the same grounds on 2 previous pots as this was the weakest coffee I've had in a long time. I ordered a pork tenderloin sandwich and a single biscuit with gravy alongside. Well, the "side of pork tenderloin" on the menu was listed as $4.95 and the biscuits and gravy was listed at $2.95. Well, she was going to charge me $7.25 for the sandwich and tack on another $1 for the B&G. Regardless, the service was painfully slow. I asked for a refill on the coffee at least 3 times clearly to my waitress and never got it. Halfway through the sandwich, I picked out 2 large pieces of plastic from it, apparently from some kitchen instrument. I ordered the sausage gravy on the biscuit. Technically, I guess it was sausage gravy. I found one piece of sausage in it about the size of a gnat. Other than that, there was no sausage or sausage flavor to the gravy. There were 2 waitresses supposedly covering the diner which seems like enough for the 10 tables they have but neither was doing very much. I'll probably give them a second shot but the first impression wasn't one to write home about.

We wanted a local type of breakfast. We ordered the mass confusion thanks to other yelp posts. My husband ordered the full and couldn't eat it all. I ordered the half and finished it all. Loved that even though they are a Pepsi fountain place, I was able to get a can of diet coke. Two thumbs for that! The young lady who was our server was fantastic. Love little holes like this!

First and last time I will eat there. Very inattentive service, to the point of seeming intentional. In fact, the worst service I have had in many years. My entre came without the toast (as described in the menu), which I politely asked for when she brought the food. Server was gone over 10 minutes and I had to ask her again. In the meantime, she is busy making chit chat with the regulars and staff. Then I actually went up front to ask again. She came to the table a bit later and asked what kind of toast did I want, now a good 20 plus minutes after my now cold meal had come out (prefer to eat my eggs with toast). No apologies or concern. Ended up leaving most of my food, which was mediocre at best. She also charged me for two sausage patties, and only one came on the plate. Never did get the toast. Weird, hickish place and the strange clientelle are obviously mostly locals...not very comfortable for or with 'outsiders'. I guess if you are a regular there, perhaps you get the great service described in the other reviews. While we were nothing but polite and considerably patient, we were treated as though we didn't matter at all.

Awesome breakfast joint! Being a North American male omnivore, this place is just awesome. Really good portions, good quality, love their green chili, & their bacon is outstanding. It's like what Denny's would be if they had any soul. Bring your own hot sauce unless you really love Tabasco or Louisiana Hot. I can't believe that a place this good doesn't use something better. Definitely recommended.

We found jc's on yelp when in golden for a red rocks concert. The breakfast was good and the staff was friendly. I think the waitress was the owner but she was super friendly and personable. Will definitely go again when in the area! Also love to support the local businesses!!

Used to be Shorty Lu's diner. The service is friendly, and the place has a local diner atmosphere with a lot of character. The breakfast food is amazing - best french toast I've ever had. The pancakes, eggs, sausage, etc. are all good too.

Bring on the gluten! I chose this place based on the "flying saucier of awesome" comment in reference to the mass confusion menu item. I could not agree more. This is an unpretentious, clean, friendly, and delicious breakfast spot. This is no Snooze. This is no waiting. This is giant scoops of butter, chunky sausage gravy, and Mrs. Butterworth. My son got a giant Mickey Mouse Pancake, bacon, scrambled eggs, and an orange juice for 2.00! Whhhhaaaat?!? That is amazing. I got the half mass confusion with bacon and sunny side eggs on top. My belly was so happy all morning with congealed goodness. I look forward to going back here. It's just what I have been searching for.

Good food. Excellent portions, especially for the prices. Service is fast and friendly. The bacon is on point! The French toast is delicious and the pancakes are pretty good. We came here because it was close to the hotel we stayed at and the yelp rating was good. Glad we found this place. Perfect hearty breakfast before head to a friend's wedding celebration. Portions are way big, especially for the cost. Excellent value. Service is fast and friendly.

This place reminds me of something I'd find in the South where I'm from. You walk in, it's unassuming, there are good ole folks sittin around slamming their food in their faces, and the servers are very easy breezy, "what do you want, hon?". Food came out in 5 minutes flat, maybe even less, steaming hot and well-seasoned. I got the "mass confusion", which is hash browns, eggs, biscuits and gravy, and your choice of meat piled together. It was very tasty, and I got a gigantic plate full for 6.95. I will be back, little café.

This place used to be the old Shorty Lu's. it is a small diner rampant with local flavor. Breakfast is served all day with classics such as biscuits and gravy and chicken fiend steak. They also have breakfast burritos and green chili. My boyfriend frequented this establishment before they changed their name. He said that the menu hadn't really changed and that everything was pretty good. I opted for a half-order of the Lucky 13, which is 2 biscuits topped with gravy, an egg, and honor choice of bacon or sausage. The biscuits were flaky and buttery and the gravy was perfectly seasoned. All-in-all, a great local diner with great food.

J.C's Cafe emits the most homey yet retro vibe at the same time. Homey because the place is so small and intimate (and most people who go here are regulars and they greet the owners by name). Retro because all the walls are covered with paintings and writings from customers who've visited the place. It was a collection of murals to honors those who passed, the joyful moments in life like weddings, and just inspirational memos everywhere. I loved the positivity of it. I ordered the Mountain Women Omelette because I was craving some bacon and i'm a sucker for hash browns as well. The service was super speedy and I got my food in no time. It was MASSIVE! I definitely could not finish it. The hash browns were delicious drenched in ketchup. I liked that they offered different varieties of bread and I opted for whole wheat. However, they added butter without asking which I thought was a little contradictory to me trying to be health (er). Oh well....it was tasty, can't complain. The omelette itself was ginormous, filled with goodies like vegetables, 4 eggs, and bacon. I was definitely satisfied by the end of my brunch experience. The price here is very reasonable as well. For two dishes, our total came out to only be around 15 dollars. Definitely give this place a try if you're craving some home cooked breakfast in a friendly location.

We love everything about JC's. It's totally a greasy spoon with mostly short order breakfast items to boast on their menu. The local flair of Pleasant View shines through in the wall art (add your name to a peace candle) and the deep faith and patriotism of the co-owner husband/wife team, John and Chris is obvious in the unique decor. John creates a daily chalkboard art display of the specials and commemorates any national holidays. I always stick with eggs, bacon, hashbrowns (nice and crispy), and toast or pancakes. My husband and I have come to love the entire staff at our favorite cheap local breakfast joint. Other bkfts exist in Golden but aren't nearly the screamin' deal! Regularly, the owners have fundraiser meals for causes in the community, too.

What a neat place. Went for breakfast, about 9:15am. Hubs had a huge breakfast burrito and I had an omelette, side of toast and hash browns. We were very well fed and everything was tasty good. You almost have to go there to experience the ambiance...lively. It was busy. Our waitress, Barb was awesome...never missed a beat with any of her customers. Will have to try the lunch menu soon.

Great diner with greasy, home cookin! The decor may throw you off a bit but that's part of this place's charm. Awesome hash browns and pancakes! Super sweet service and handmade chocolate milk. Try the hockey puck for dessert.

Great food, but the service is what won me over. I loved the staff's friendly and helpful attitude. We're here visiting from out of town, and they welcomed us with open arms.

Thx to Angela D. for posting pics of the menu.
