Comfort food in Aspen? Seems like an oxymoron, I know, but it's right here at Little Annie's. We were all pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere immediately brings me to the old West and Aspen's roots. I had the veggie burger, and it was pretty good! Fam had the burgers and enjoyed them, as well as the latkes. If you're craving something a little more familiar or budget friendly then this might be your place!

Wonderful locals joint. It's nice to know that in a town of too many over-the-top ritzy establishments, this one has been holding true and steady for over 40 years. The rowdy, older locals who convene here are clearly having a good time because you can hear them from across the restaurant. The red booths are as welcoming as they probably were when they first opened. The staff are friendly and accommodating. And the burger I had? 1/2 pound of really good meat. Ate the whole thing and it was just what my belly needed after a long day of biking. Nothing fancy here, just your good old, American, tried & true juicy burger served atop an onion bun with a heaping pile of fries. If this sounds like your jam, you should definitely go.

Had breakfast here with my grandmother on Saturday during the farmer's market. Excellent location with outside seating alongside the vendors. We both orders coffees and the Rocky Mountain homemade chili, which was so good. The service was great, friendly and fast. The tables and chairs could be changed out for wood for comfort but other than that, I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Colorado!

Disappointing. I know people who ate there, and they liked it. Maybe it's not for everyone. We shared the burger and chicken sandwich.

Little Annie's came recommended. It is a place where the locals go. Very quaint place. I ordered the 10 oz sirloin and it was very juicy, tender, and tasty. My husband ordered the mahi mahi special and was very good as well. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient. It was very affordable considering the location and the other pricey restaurants in the area. Would definitely recommend!!

Nice place for comfort food that isn't ridiculously overpriced like a lot of the other places in aspen. I got the 1/2 serving of beef stew and mashed potatoes, others in my group ordered salad, and baked potatoes. Everyone enjoyed everything they ordered. I'd definitely come back here.

The food was incredible. I had the trout and it was outstanding. Another had the sirloin special and another the half chicken. No complaints on the food. The Owner, Ron, came by and checked on us. Great mustache and great man. You can tell he has a good heart. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars was our server. Rude is an understatement. He was actually an asshole. When asked to split our check, he threw the ticket and credit cards at us and told us to figure it out ourselves. That being said, our server for lunch the other day was outstanding. She was kind and courteous. Stay away from the server with the beard!!!

The server overcharged my credit card by $5. WATCH OUT FOR CREDIT CARD FRAUD FROM THIS RESTAURANT! Service was mediocre, food was pretty good, we would never return due to the credit card "mistake" that they made.

The Oriental Chicken Salad was the bomb. Reminded me of the Oriental Chicken Salad at The Cheesecake Factory. Huge portion, delicious sesame dressing and crunchy oriental noodles. I can't imagine paying $24.00 for their chicken fried steak... But for 10.95...the oriental chicken salad is fantastic and a great deal.

This place has always been good. Had the kale and quinoa salad and absolutely loved it. Can't remember the name of our server but she's been there for years and she's wonderful.

This is an old school Aspen bar/restaurant. They have amazing prime rib sandwiches, the best comfort food in town and a cool funky decor. Not fancy, but clean and filled with local flavor. Definitely worth a try.

Stopped here for lunch. I really liked the cheaper prices compared to what I'm used to seeing here in Aspen. I had a gyros with steak fries. The fries were as about as perfect as you can make those. The gyro was good for the most part. More sause than I'm accustomed too but that's fine. Lighter on the meat than I'm accustomed, that's not so fine. Very friendly people there and good service.

So sorry to report that Annie's won't reopen until Dec. We're here for John Denver tribute days. Annie's is an essential part of the celebration and when we came last year and it was closed we were heart broken. We did manage to order and receive two Annie's tee shirts which was a treat. Then we found it was reopening and expected it to be open by now. Guess we have to wait for next year.

We came here for lunch and had their specials- kale quinoa seared tuna and the corned beef sandwich. It was delish and super contemporary for a little diner look alike.

I believe fate led me here. It was meant to be. If there is a dive bar in a town, I will somehow find it. I was in Aspen for a ski trip. After going to a concert at the Belly Up, I was wandering the streets looking to see if there was any nightlife still happening in Aspen (I learned quickly the answer is yes). I was trying to get to a different bar, but took a wrong turn and found this lovely place where it looked like people were drinking beer, so I went in. I was told by a "local" (he lives here, but no one is actually from Aspen) that I found the last dive bar left in town. That probably why I felt so at home. If you want to drink on the cheap, you can do it here (not true of many places in Aspen). I believe the first night 5 drinks was $24. Sweet. Our bartender's name was Doug, and he was great. Thanks Doug! If I'm ever back in Aspen, I will be back here.

I like the atmosphere, ambiance, and the fact that Little Annie's has been in Aspen for forty plus years. I visited there about 2:00 p.m. When I asked about soup de jour, Madam gave me a small sample cup. Eventually I ordered Spinach pie, Chili, and Fries. Fries looked be homemade, and chili was very hearty with a lot of meat, beans, hand chopped onions. Also, spinach pie was the best I have ever eaten!! Crispy crust and packed spinach and mushrooms. Totally, food, service, and atmosphere are quite good. I would love to come here again when visiting Aspen in the future.

Great casual atmosphere, good food at reasonable prices, friendly staff. When visiting Annie's don't forget the beer & shot special only 4.00!

While their food is decent, the place can make me feel claustrophobic at times. I'm not even claustrophobic! But still, I have a lot of memories coming to this place with friends to kick off a wild night.

How can you walk by Little Annie's and not stop by? Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? Quaint and simple, yet effective and efficient. Not only does Annie's employ a great fleet of friendly and knowledgeable staff, but service is quick even when it gets crowded. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Well, it's Aspen, and this isn't a chain, but even taking those into consideration, $10.95 pre-tax was extremely reasonable considering the quantity of food that I got. Check it out: yelp.com/user_local_phot… Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I was excited about my buffalo burger, mostly because it was the special of the day, but while it was enjoyable, and there was plenty of it, the whole meal was just lacking a little bit. The patty was relatively plain, the toppings basic, and the mashed potatoes not that great. Especially if something is the daily special, I'm expecting to be blown away. Unfortunately, I just wasn't. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? The service is great, and the atmosphere is brilliant, but no, I couldn't come daily. There are simply too many similar options in Aspen. No Star Granted.

First off...I didn't eat. Maybe different stars if I did. We went in for a couple of beers on a snowy pm. Great atmosphere, great staff. Lots of local flavor and it was recommended by a local shop owner for that reason. I'd most definitely go back and WILL if I get the chance.

We eat at Little Annie's every time we come in town. Tonight we sat outside since it was such a beautiful night. The service and the food have been consistently good over the years. We are gluten-free and there are plenty of options. My favorite is a hamburger without the bun with Swiss cheese, bacon, and sauteed mushrooms. My husband loves the prime rib. We all enjoy the mashed potatoes and baked potatoes. I wish they had gluten-free buns, but maybe someday they will. This is a great place to take the kids.

  • Andrew M.

As mentioned in a earlier post, it's very hard to find good places to eat in Aspen - especially when you have kids. We took a chance on Little Annie's and loved it! GREAT atmosphere and the service was very friendly. I had a burger and it was very tasty and a good size. Not the biggest burger I've had but when we are on a skiing vacation we try to eat less portions of this sort of food altogether so it was perfect. My daughter grabbed the Turkey Club and it was enormous!!! It was also extremely good - I highly recommend that! I spoke with the owner as we left - explained that my family had been coming back since 1962 and that we were grateful to have somewhere "normal" to eat in Aspen.

It has been there since the 70's and you can tell very little has changed since. The place has lots of character and friendly service. The food is good dinner style dishes and plentiful portions with 2 side dish options including veggies, fries, mash potatoes with gravy and baked potato. My husband had the chicken fried chicken, a large chicken breast breaded and fried. He enjoyed it and did not find it too greasy. I had the lamb, two thick lamb chops cooked to perfection and accompanied with mint jelly. The beer selection is good too

I moved to Aspen from Pittsburgh to stay over the summer and Little Annie's was my favorite spot. Fried Chicken Night was like having a home cooked meal. Miss it!

A total gem in Aspen. We were debating about where to eat lunch and some passerbys heard us mention another place and Annie's. They stopped us and said "Go to Annie's, definitely Annie's". So we did and it was fabulous. We sat in the front where the window juts out into the street and watched falling snow as we drank our hot ciders ($2 definitely get it, so good!). I got the tofu chicken salad and it was the best tofu I've ever eaten. This place doesn't even specialize in tofu and it was that good. I could eat that for lunch every damn day. So good. The rest of our party got sandwiches which were met with "mmmmm"s but I didn't even care to see what they got my salad was so amazing. The whole atmosphere at Annie's is warm and cozy and the owner served us our lunches. They even gave one of our party a sample of the soup that was tap for the day. So kind and a good retreat from Aspen snobbery.

Weak pour and mediocre pub food at high prices. Bartender may want to explore the option of retirement, since he has been there 31 years.

Good place to grab a bite. Good menu options from healthy to fattening. The specials were great too. The place is not polished and the wait staff is worn out. Not crowded on a Friday night for dinner....no wait.

I came here for lunch this week. For a September weekday, mid-afternoon, they weren't too busy. I was warmly greeted/seated. After a few minutes, the waitress took my order, a burger with blue cheese and mashed potatoes. The food came rather quickly which was nice. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good, I'd give 'em four stars. The burger on the other hand was just OK. I ordered it cooked medium rare, which it was to their credit. I had no problem with the patty. The bun on the other hand was so soggy I was surprised it stayed together. I'm not sure what the effect is of putting blue cheese on a burger but I didn't think it would be this. Mush. Perhaps it was blue cheese "sauce"? The flavor was fine but I didn't care for the consistency to be honest. The burger was served with a fresh piece of lettuce, a slice of tomato and a pickle spear, all of which were fine. Bottom line: Four star service, three star food. I would come back...sometime.

Great place to go with friends to grab some food and beer. Don't tick off the bartender or he'll gladly escort you out the door. The locals like to go here because it's usually really chilled out.

I've read reviews off of Yelp for years, and wanted to join and write my own for a while - but it was this place who made finally join to write a review. I had the special of the day, a kale tuna salad - really yummy; the problem here was NOT the food, it was the server. Brittany, you are terrible. Please go find another line of work. You rushed us, you never came back to check on our table, threw the check on us, just.....horrible. The place wasn't even busy. Do not go to this place if you expect quality service.

Attention Aspen visitors! Come here and... - Sit in the 1st front booth, so you can people watch all of the fur coats and expensive toupees walking past outside. Aspen is a magnet for high-class ding dongs, and we loved visiting. - Order a nice tall mug of their apple cider. MUST get the apple cider. Get two. Best I've ever had. - Looking for a unique sandwich? Order the Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich. Aspen is a long ways away from Tampa, FL and this was the perfect spot for an afternoon snack and the perfect alternative to skiing.

Fantastic local spot. Expected typical bar food and instead was surprised by a special of quinoa and kale salad with seared ahi tuna and homemade balsamic dressing. The next to die for entree was the ahi tuna sandwich ordered rare, which I want now to eat everyday for the rest of my stay here in Aspen.

Went here for lunch while in aspen. Was moderately priced for Aspen but food was not good. Children's pizza $8.95 was so bad my daughter only ate 1/2 a piece. I had a hamburger that they grilled the bun and it was burnt so all I tasted was a burnt burger; menu said best burgers in aspen (I don't think so). My husband had a lunch special he said was ok. Our party of 6 (4 adults 2 children) had horrible service; but they were nice enough to add on the 18% gratuity. Hot chocolate that was lukewarm and tasted like it was not completely mixed was $6. Baked potato on one entree was not warm enough to melt butter on it. 4 adults and 2 children for lunch after gratuity was $110 - food was definitely not worth it and the service was even worse. If I could give zero stars I would.

We went to Little Annie's on a recent business trip to Aspen. This has become a traditional spot over the last few years to go with early arrivers. We came in a day early, and while looking for dinner the night before noticed some negative reviews of Annie's so thought we should check it out before bringing our group. I'm not sure what has happened in the past year, but the food was awful and the service was worse. The only good thing I could say was they were fast. Of course, when you dump cold chili from a can and don't warm it up, it doesn't take long to get to the table the first time. The parsimonious sprinkle of cheese ($1extra) wasn't even beginning to melt. I sent it back, and it was returned without the service plate, just the cup splatted down in front of me. That time it was almost warm enough to start the cheese melting, but certainly not appropriately hot. I ate it and tried to wash it down with the bitter instant iced tea rather than going for strike 3, and felt ill the rest of the day. I would have tried to send it back a second time, but the grumbling that occurred the first time wasn't encouraging. We then watched a server and a busser stand around for about 20 minutes each texting. Just standing in the middle of the restaurant or at the hostess station. Someone else finally came along and wiped a bussed table, but someone who vaguely appeared to be in charge never said anything to them as she passed by. Then I saw her in another corner texting. My food was dismal. My hubbie's food made it to mediocre, but at least came to the table warm. Not hot, but warm enough to eat. This isn't the Little Annie's we grew to love over the years. We won't be back this trip, and if this institution doesn't have some kind of service makeover I doubt it will be there to come back to next time. It's a sad fall from grace.

It looks and feels like a dive bar, but the prices are still high. I've had all the sandwiches and they are average. Some people love the burger, but I do not. If you're looking for a huge onion bun that you can buy at any grocery store you might be into it. The dining room tends to get very busy with families and kids. I've never thought the servers or bar tenders are very friendly. I would say this is a good place to take little kids because it's dark and they can run around and make a mess and no one seems to mind. I've never had the dinner entrees but they look pretty good. If you're looking for a super casual atmosphere and don't mind paying $20-$40 for an entree you might like it. I came here the first time I was in Aspen because it looked cheap and I was on a budget, but I walked out spending $40. Don't be fooled by the dive bar appearance! There are nicer restaurants in town for the same prices.

The beef stew wasn't good enough. Not very hearty and underseasoned. When discussing stew, the word "bland" is the last description you want to hear. Sorry Little Annie but that's the best I can come up with for your Beef Stew. I made it my meal, but should have had it as a side cup of soup so that I could have tried something else that would have saved this place for me. I'll go somewhere else next time.

Cute place, smells funny in the bar (dishwasher issue?), but the dining room was fine. I really enjoyed the bbq chicken and the awesome fries. My partner had a surprisingly healthy salad with kale and quinoa.

Ate lunch here yesterday at one of their side walk tables. The service was good and the food was tasty. My wife had a bowl of gazpacho, and I had a lamb & beef gyro with spinach pie, and a house salad. The gyro was excellent and the salad was served with a delicious house made balsamic vinaigrette. The wait staff at Little Annie's is friendly & attentive.

When in Aspen, eat at the bar. You'll get better service, better stories and often times, better prices. This holds true at Little Annie's where you can expect big plates of comfort food in rustic surroundings. I have been here a couple of times, and, yes, sitting at the bar vastly improved my experience. We were able to solve the world's problems over some Stranahan's with the bartender while casually watching sports on the TVs. We were even the grateful recipients of a mispoured beer. At the bar, Aspen feels smaller and truer. As for the food, our most recent order was rotisserie chicken with a heaping mound of mashed potatoes and the Chinese chicken salad. We've never been here without ordering the Chinese chicken salad, and we're always pleased. As the night gets later, the crowd gets rowdier, which isn't necessarily my scene, but for lunch or dinner, it's an old school spot to enjoy some comfort food and interesting company.

Good basic food in an unpretentious package. We sat on the makeshift patio (i.e. the street) with our dogs at lunch during the Saturday Market. The waitress recommended the Reuben, which was okay. The dogs enjoyed the leftovers.

This is a local joint if I've ever seen one! The decor inside is absolutely kitschy and adorable. The tables are all covered with red and white checkered table cloths and that were reminiscent of summer picnics.. even though when I went it was snowing out. The service was great and although this place is know for their burgers I went with the beef stew... good move on my part because the house made stew was delicious! Lots of beef and veggies! Their Arnold Palmer was notably amazing as well. Little Annie's is a perfect "small town" joint.

Love.this.place.love.it . OK - I've hit this place every time I've been in Aspen. This weekend I was with my best buddy and wanted to ensure that he had a great time during his first Aspen trip. No joke, and not wanting to sound like a pretentious wanker, but this place is the best spot in Aspen - I've lived in Edinburgh, London and San Francisco and this place would be a valuable addition to any city. Period/full stop. I've now dined here three times - 1) at bar with wife on a party weekend 2) with a large family group in the eating area 3) with buddy this weekend at bar. On each occasion, it's stood up - and I'm kinda picky. Now, let me qualify this review: 1. My review is based on drinking/eating at the BAR during the day. The restaurant/eating section can be hit and miss - ESPECIALLY at night. I would not recommend going at night actually - it can be weird and cliquey. 2. The barman Steve (or "Woody" to his old skool pals) makes this place from a 3 star to a 5 star. He is amazing. I've never met someone SO SUITED to being a barman - he's absolutely AMAZING at his trade. 3. Again - this review is based on daytime drinking/eating with Steve as the bar guy. Tip him big style - he'll take care of you. 4. I've uploaded a photo - I'm the guy in the hat, Steve the barman is the dude in the green shirt at the back. 5, It's not that expensive. The food rocks - the french dip special is spectacular. Enjoy!!!!

Been coming here for 25 years, used to be a pre ski breakfast spot before I got married. Now my husband will go anytime like tonight after a movie. He got a turkey sandwich which was to die for. Grilled cheese with bacon and, oh yeah, there was turkey in there too. I ordered the appetizer sized ribs, best $12 ribs in town for sure. huge portion. Waitress was nice. I see reviews from others, I would say this is Aspens answer to a Diner, not a fake diner like Boogies, but a real NJ style diner. Don't expect a posh Aspen restaurant.

  • Devin R.

The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is the experience I had was not very good. The server was very short with us until I got her talking a little bit, then she warmed up. She didn't even initially say anything to us like "how are you?" or "hi, my name is ____, I'll be your server today". I ordered the chicken salad, which from the description sounded like a salad with chicken on it. Nope. It's actually chicken salad, like what you'd put in a sandwich, only no bread or anything. It comes out on a large leaf of lettuce. On top of the lettuce is a large mound of chicken salad, and then fresh fruit all around it. I mostly just ate the fresh fruit because I'm not one for eating chicken salad like that. I did not order any bbq, which I hear they're known for. If I do happen to go back to Annie's next time I'm in Aspen, I will not be ordering a salad. If it warrants a better rating, I will definitely update this review.

Oh Little Annie's, I wanted to love you. The smallish place with the unchanging decor and the comfort food all seemed very appealing, but the food was so ho-hum that I couldn't recommend it (especially given that it is fully "Aspen priced"). We were there on a September weekend, so it wasn't incredibly crowded. Even then, the service was best described as indifferent. It took us a while to get seated, and there seemed to be some ongoing confusion about who would be our server--resulting in a 10 minute or more wait for drinks. The decor appears to be unchanged for many decades--which is not a bad thing per se. The bathroom could have used some TLC. All of those things could be forgiven, but the food was up to the same 70s standards as the decor. The salads were iceberg lettuce (seemingly out of a bag) with a few lonely and not-so-fresh vegetables. Dressings were definitely bottled. I had the BBQ combo plate, because the waitress recommended both the chicken and the ribs. Both were dry and overcooked and drowned in a very sweet, tomatoey sauce. Two companions ordered the Rocky Mountain Rainbow Trout, since it was ostensibly a specialty. It was also overcooked and very, very fishy (not a good sign). We didn't stay for dessert. All-in it was about $130 for 3 entrees plus a couple of beers and soft drinks. If we were to try it again, we'd probably come for lunch and stick with sandwiches and burgers, they might be both a little tastier and a little higher on the good food/price ratio.

Best burger in town, no BS. Also oriental chicken salad if you're not feeling like a burger. Friendly bar tenders and the last real dive bar in Aspen.

My family and myself ate at Little Annie's after receiving a recommendation to do so and I wish we had chosen differently. Our server was extremely rude; he never said hi and just stood there and asked "what do you want?" While we attempted to order, he kept looking around the room hardly listening to us and even walked away BEFORE we finished ordering. Needless to say, the food came out incorrect. The food itself was not so hot either, aside from our server screwing up the order. I got the burger and when I picked it up the bun disintegrated into a pile of mush in my fingers it was so heavily soaked in grease. A new bun is an easy fix and I would have been a happy camper, but not once did our server come by and ask how our food was or even refill our waters. My sister enjoyed her food but she was the only one. I will say the portions are huge and some of the salads going out looked fantastic so I wish I had chosen one of those instead. My advice? Avoid if you can, but if you do go, get a salad. My advice for Little Annie's? Get new wait staff and watch how long the food sits in the window. I am a server myself and was very unhappy with my experience here. I expect much more from a town like Aspen.

We ate at Annie's about 4-5 years and happened to walk by it while visiting Aspen again. Wife had the oriental chicken salad and I had the chili. Both meals were good and service was quick. Prices are reasonable which is a surprise for Aspen.

I'm embarrassed to post that my family ate here 3 times during our week in Aspen. But, this restaurant is no muss, no fuss excellence. A piece of meat/fish with two sides? Huge portions? Causal atmosphere? Reasonable bill?? What more could you want after a long, hard day of skiing? I had the salmon with a side salad (there salads are amazing!) and whatever veggie they were serving. I can also give a shout out to the london broil, baked potatoes, entree salads, chicken and burger (again, we ate there a lot...) Little Annie's is an Aspen must!

We were walking around the farmer's market when we came across Little Annies. What appealed to us was the fact that we got to eat outside while soaking in some great weather and pleasant atmosphere of Aspen. My fiance ordered the pork ribs with the ginger butter squash soup. She really liked the ribs and soup. She rated the ribs about a 7 out of 10 possible points. As for the soup, my finace would rate it at about 8 out of 10 possible points. I ordered the French Dip with curly fries. I would probably rate my meal about 3 out of 10 possible points for taste. I don't know what was wrong with the taste of the meat, but it just did not taste that great. The curly fries were not that great either. Where service is concerned, it was adequate, but not all that great. I wouldn't head back to this place again, but my fiance my have a different opinion.

Reasonably priced (did their lunch), great homemade meal. Also, huge salads. Their scalloped potatoes (part of the special of the day) were the best I've ever eaten.

The prices and unpretentious-ness are the real stars of this place. I was only in Aspen for a few days but it was long enough to realize that food is expensive and not what I would call laid back. Little Annie's was affordable and filled us up. I had the turkey terrific sandwich - Smoked turkey breast on sourdough bread with white cheddar cheese, toasted on the grill...added bacon. Side item was steak fries. Those were just OK. The sandwich was really tasty though - especially with that coarse mustard spread on it. My coworker was brave enough to try the "Texas style" chicken fried chicken. I'm not sure who is working in this place that thinks that is Texas style but...it isn't. Just call it chicken fried chicken and move on. The actual chicken inside the breading was very tasty and moist but the breading was all wrong and fell off when you tried to cut it. The whole thing was too thick also - Texas style chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak is pounded out to be more thing with a crispy coating like normal fried chicken. So, meh to that! His mashed potatoes were good though!

This place has average service, offers average food, and is average in terms of how attractive it is. I will give it props for being one of the only affordable restaurants in Aspen though. The burger I got was quite good, but my girlfriend didn't like her meal all that much. Hence the A-OK rating.

Love the laid back atmosphere & friendly staff. Went here twice while in Aspen. First time was for dinner. Had the crab cakes for an appetizer - not bad, not great. For my entree I had the beef stew - now this was delicious!! Maybe the best beef stew I've ever had. So hearty & flavorful!! I was practically licking my bowl at the end. My fiance had a burger. That was very tasty as well. The second time we went there was just for drinks with friends. I think it was a Friday or Saturday night, and it was hectic!! ...which is usually harmless, but for some reason we were dealing with insanely drunk people the whole time. There were 3 people that were falling over & looked like they were about to lose their cookies on other patrons at any moment. Not cool. I would blame it on the XGames, but the drunky-magoo that fell on me first was a "distinguished" guy I would guess was in his late 50's in a fancy overcoat and a Michael Douglas hair-cut. So I guess the moral of the story is... go get the beef stew on a weeknight and have drinks at your own table!

I was told that the mashed potatoes were great, but they were just meh. Had the Chicken Fried Chicken, which left some things to be desired. The gravy was average, and the chicken wasn't particularly cooked well - a little dry and blah. I should have ordered the hamburger - it looks so much better but I just had steak the night before.

If you want huge portions of simple but solid comfort food, this is the best spot in Aspen. This is not a spot for the dieter. The food is rich, fried, buttery, you name it. I had the fried trout with baked potato and green bean almondine. Everything was delicious, but I don't know if a lumberjack could finish that plate. The menu has a lot of variety on it for vegetarians as well, with a particularly good spanakopita (spinach phyllo pie). Come hungry and ready to burn those calories off!

I ordered their "specialty" - Eggs Benedict served on top of hash browns rather than an English muffin. I really enjoyed it, but if this was their "special," I'd be concerned what the rest of their menu tastes like. The coffee was great, and the refills kept coming. The waitress was a total sweetheart, but the complimentary Tootsie Roll that came with my check, almost made me give her a crappy tip. Does anyone actually like Tootsie Rolls?

Annie's is a good place or a cheap meal when you want to grab some beers. The service is hit or miss... the bar tends to be really prompt, but there is a high turnover on the floor and not every waiter/waitress is equally good. The food is fairly good, but it's difficult to get something light (but this is a universal problem in Aspen). The soup is fine. The burgers aren't great.

Knowing this was Aspen and food prices here are through the roof, Annie's was not too bad on the wallet. Better than i expected. The place is nice and small, but comfy. The service we had for lunch was good considering it was mid-summer and packed. The food was good, nothing too "wow", but all decent. The veal brat was probably the best of what we had. Very tasty. The BBQ beef sandwich was also pretty good. The chicken fried steak was so-so. Have had much better. Overall we had a very good meal. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a place downtown. Although parking in that area is a big pain.

Came here for lunch one day because it was recommended by one of the BF's friends. The decor is very country western, as in big wooden furniture with the requisite red checked tablecloths. The menu serves up good comfort food at prices that are reasonable for such an expensive resort town. I had a hamburger (yum), while the BF ordered the BBQ Beef sandwich. Servings are generous; the BF is a big eater and he was full after finishing his food.

One of my favorite places in the world. We've been coming to Little Annie's for about two decades now, and we made our annual pilgrimage last night. This locals' place is the quintessential apre-ski eating house. I could go on and on about Little Annies as I've had great times here. A wild drunken NYE when I was in college, drinking 5 Shots and a Pitcher all night long. Running randomly into former Ranger coach Mike Keenan at the bar one spring night after he'd delivered a Stanley Cup to NY. Nice guy, that was cool. This is quite simply a must-do when you're in Aspen. The menu is loaded with comfort food options, from awesome burgers (best in town) to chicken fried steak to Colorado lamb chops (mmmmm, had these babies last night!) to barbecue chicken and ribs. Everything is delicious, and service is warm and friendly, as well as kid friendly. As an added bonus, I was psyched to see Mirror Pond on tap. It's been a few years since I lived in the Pacific Northwest, and this lovely ale from Bend, Oregon, is just nowhere to be found in NYC. Lastly, it's nice to see that the price of a Shot & A Beer has only risen a buck since the last time I was here. It's now only $3.50. I like that. I like that a lot.

Formal Local Review: Little Annie's is staying strong within the dwindling cache of Aspen restaurants that provide good service and decent value. However, the thing that makes this place truly special somehow it delicately toes the line between an awesome drunken towny bar open till 2a.m. and family dinner & lunch restaurant fit for tourists and locals alike. The bar is one of those places that you can sit at for 5 minutes or 5 hours. There's always good conversation at the bar fostered by good bartenders. The food is always good, especially the BBQ & Onion Rings, there's free popcorn in the bar (although I heard it's questionably clean) and a shot and a beer special that can't be beat....Damn...I just talked myself into 5 stars! I want to go to there ( youtube.com/watch?v=Cph2… ). Tip: Friday's lunch has a Chicken Fried Steak special. If you're from other places where this entree isn't a lunchtime staple, it's a must!

Good joint in Aspen if you're looking for some hearty food at non-Aspen prices. I had the chicken fried steak and, yes, there's a reason that those words are trending in the Yelp listing for Little Annie's. They use very high quality steak with great breading and put a good fry on it. Couple that with some mashed potatoes and something other than the coleslaw (direct from KFC? yuck...), you'll be having a good, filling evening. Good joint.

This is a great place to grab a beer in town. Lots of locals, and a nice relaxed vibe. Unfortunately, the entire experience is ruined by the a-hole bartender. You know the one I'm talking about - the guy who acts like it's a chore to get you a beer. The guy whose mom never taught him how to be courteous to other people. The guy who is basically a giant d!ck to everyone except people he knows. This guy will prevent me from returning. When he acts this way towards locals, in a local establishment, it's bad for business. He needs to go if you want me to return, Annie.

I came here to get a couple of drinks with some friends and I just loved loved loved the interior of this place. I went in August, but I can imagine it being even cuter when it's snowing out. We sat in the front booth area and were able to look around the place as well as out the windows. I don't have much else to say about the place except for it's got character and it seemed like a place you'd see in a movie. I want to go back!

Great local spot! Every town should have a place like this! REAL food! Salads, GREAT burgers, and Real Mash potatoes. Great prices, great food and nice causal place to hang out! It's no surprise that they have been in business for 35 years!

Came here for the first time last week for dinner and was very impressed. The atmosphere is 'old-timey' without being corny, and I can see it being a fun bar scene later at night. We came with a group of 10 and service was great from top to bottom. Everyone had great things to say about their meals, myself included. I tried the aged prime rib blackened, and was blown away by how great the quality of the meat was. Huge, juicy, and bursting with flavor and spice from the blackening rub. Might be the best prime rib I've ever had, which I was definitely not expecting. The burgers that several others got looked fantastic.

I real disappointment. After reading reviews about how this is a local favorite, we thought we'd give it a shot. We weren't looking for anything fancy, but we should have kept looking. Big portions don't make up for bland food.

Total dump of a restaurant in Aspen. Food wasn't that cheap -- $20-25 for most items and the quality was similar to a poor diner. Worst meal I've had in a long time.

This place is a must go to while in Aspen. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly. Helpful staff, not pushy and very friendly. The place is filled with locals all catching up with the going ons in town. . Had the Santa Fe chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. Excellent without to much spice. My husband had the tuna sandwich and enjoyed that as well. They carry Aspen Brewery beer which changes all the time. If I ever get back to Aspen I will certainly go back

I went here after hearing this place is an Aspen classic, however I didn't realize classic meant stuck in the dark ages. The place is in serious need of a remodeling. Everything inside is old and outdated. Its not a cute or classy place, especially for Aspen. The service was slow and the food was extremely heavy and greasy. Way better places to eat in Aspen than this place.

Yes, the much anticipated Aspen trip has arrived! (note: I must be addicted to Yelp. I arrived here early this morning and I am already Yelping before I head out to dinner. What I've found though, is that this is one great way to keep a culinary diary, and what better way to remember a trip than through your dining pit stops!) So, Little Annies. I'm here with great family friends who have been coming out here for years so it's great to be in a new city with some walking knowledge. After a quick jump from SFO, we were starved, so we headed to Little Annies. In this fur coat mecca, and picture perfect walkway landscape, this location is a comfortable reprieve from the glitz into a true comfort escape. It has the feel of a road side diner, with utensil banging, a weathered bar, and great people. The first thing that jumps at you are how incredibly nice the wait staff is. The menu is simple, but loaded. Confronted with a great BBQ selection, I was in a quandary. A place that could easily be highlighted on DDD, I dove into the BBQ beef sandwich and it was exactly what I needed. A whopping portion of pulled beef on an onion loaf with a drizzling of bbq sauce. Yes, this is what life is all about. Cold beer, good people, and bbq. I also tried the pork ribs from another dish, and they were phenomenal. Basic, but hearty, and highlighted the essense of this entire place. Comfort food for the everyday person. This is going to be one heck of a trip!

This is the quintessential old-Aspen spot. Full bar- check. Overpriced but delicious food- check People dressed in ski clothes- check Overtired children out with their parents- check. And so every trip to Aspen deserves a trip to Little Annie's, it is the full experience.

Little Annie's advertises on their menu that their burger is rated Aspen's best. So since we had just rolled into Aspen around lunch time hungry (and we waited at Cooper Street for over fifteen minutes just to get our drink order in and gave up and were even more hungry now!), it was only natural that I was immediately sold on this claim. The burger did not disappoint. I wish I could have enjoyed it more (I was suffering from some serious altitude sickness that I picked up over Independence Pass) and regret not being able to gorge myself on the whole plate. The fries were scandolously delicious too. The prices were reasonable enough for Aspen and the service was friendly and quick. Minus a star for refills costing 75 cents!!

My boyfriend and I live in Denver and were traveling to Aspen and decided to stop for lunch before we left town. We went to the farmers market which was wonderful and decided on Little Annie's because it was right there and we could people watch. There were some make shift tents set up on the street for outdoor dining so we sat there to enjoy the beautiful weather. A patron at a table next to us told us to be patient, as this was not their usual set up. No problem, the waiter came quickly and got our drink orders. For lunch I ordered the chef's salad with balsamic vinaigrette. My salad came out but did not have dressing. I had to wait 5 minutes before I could even flag someone down to get the dressing, then another few before the dressing came. It was a creamy dressing so I had to wait again to ask the waiter for something else. The only dressing they had that was not creamy was oil and vinegar. That came out and the vinegar was cloudy. So I decided to not eat the dressing, just the salad. Upon inspection, this "chefs salad" was not what I was expecting. It was all iceberg lettuce- and was all wilted! The tomatoes were mealy! The turkey and ham looked like it was chopped / pulled apart in a hurry and the hard boiled egg was grayed! It had one big thick chunk of red cabbage- what's that? After some time I had not touched the salad and the waiter came by and asked if everything was good. I told him no and began to explain what was wrong. He did not want to listen to the problems with the salad so the kitchen probably still does not know how they can improve. He asked if he could get me a replacement and I said no, as my boyfriend was pretty much finished eating (he got the rueben, which looked good and he enjoyed). Because I did not like my (old, wilted, cloudy, mealy, gray) food, the waiter was rude to us for the rest of our visit. He did not smile, ask if we wanted anything else, he DID NOT EVEN THANK US! As a restaurant professional, I understand that not everyone will like their food. Also as a restaurant professional, I understand that they are paying me and there are right and wrong ways to treat people. We will not return, nor recommend this place to others.

You would expect any restaurant in Aspen would be decent and with characters giving the entire town's business is tourism. We arrived in Aspen in a late afternoon from Dillon for a visit. Turned out many Aspen's establishments close early so we were looking for a place to eat before we return to Denver that night. Few places we were interested were closed during off seasons so we ended up at Little Annie's. Walking in there reminded us an old, outdated family restaurant with many old pictures and memorabilia on the wall. Some pictures are older than all three of us ages combined. The tables are draped with checkered red and white table cloths. Food we ordered were served in feels like old plates from the day they opened and drinks were in plastic cups. The pulled pork sandwich I had was very sweet and nothing resembles a good BBQ pulled pork sandwich you would have in Texas or Tennessee, not even close. The coleslaw came with my sandwich was so sad looking that if I ate it, I would start to cry. In the middle of our dinner there was a BIG ruckus and we thought someone is going to go postal in the restaurant. We learned later that someone wants to take her pictures off the wall before this place shuts down. The waitress told us that they are closing soon when we asked what's going on. Service was slow but the waitress was trying. I just thought in a such quaint little town like Aspen, this place is old and falling apart. The price I paid for my pulled pork sandwich was definitely Aspen PRICE which is 30% higher compare to my lunch in Dillon earlier that day. I hope they will come back and may be next time I visit Aspen I will be pleasantly surprised by Little Annie's.

Came here for their bloody mary's which the helpful staff at Hotel Jerome recommended as the best in town. Felt like I was walking on a set of David Lynch's "Twin Peaks". It was clear that the people who worked there have been there forever, and the guests that come in are regulars who have been going there forever. The bloody mary's were delicious too.

There' s something about a road trip that sends me into hamburger cravings -- usually meaning that I settle for the Burger King closest to an interstate exit. But now I know that whenever I'm in Aspen, I need only head to the center of town and drop into Little Annie's, "serving Aspen's best burgers since 1972," according to a local magazine. It was everything I wanted in a burger, and the chicken sandwich we tried was tasty as well. The decor is Western, not the chi-chi atmosphere often encountered in Aspen. We enjoyed watching our tall waiter duck under the wagon-wheel chandelier every time he came to our table.

I've been frequenting Little Annie's for years now and it is a staple for a great tasting down to earth dinner after a long day of skiing in Aspen. The decor is warm and friendly, the bar area is buzzing and full of life and the patrons are always anxiously awaiting some comfort food they have carefully selected. What stands out most about Annie's is the amazing specials they have. I've tried everything from antelope to buffalo to seared sushi grade tuna. All are surrounded by amazing sauces and marinades to perfectly complement the protein of your choice. Not to mention the mashed potatoes are some of the best I've had. There is a nice selection of warm drinks, beer and cocktails to choose from as well. They even offer a nice variety of vegetarian options for those that don't do the carnivore thing (the salads are very generous). I will always stop in and visit Annie when I vacation in Aspen. I couldn't imagine a trip without her comforting smile!

Had lunch here during the farmer's market on Saturday. They had to move some tables around to accommodate our party of 6 outside, but that all worked out no problem. The ahi tuna sandwich was dry but good. Everyone else in our party seemed to enjoy their meal. Service was decent and prices were not outrageous. Probably what passes for a good value in Aspen. Overall a good choice for lunch.

I went to Little Annie's the first night I was in Aspen. I have been before to eat, but the night I was there I drank with my friends. My boyfriend and I went to visit my cousin who lives in Aspen and we decided that the $3 beer night + a shot of your choice (well liquor) was the way to go. We shared a LARGE bowl of yummy popcorn and 3 Bud Lights and 3 shots of tequila. We ended the night after 1 round, but we were definitely greeted by nice people and didn't have to wait for service or a table.

I had a burger with cheddar cheese, mushrooms and onions, a coleslaw and some fries. Everything was quite tasty. They serve the burgers on onion rolls which I loved. We also had a bundt cake with rum and pecans, which was pretty good. The burgers were about 11 dollars before additional toppings, and I agree with the other reviewers that for Aspen that is quite a bargain - meaning you can you can have lunch there for less than 25 dollars a person. On the other hand, the service wasn't very good, even for a diner type place. We got the younger waitress, and she was the type that makes you feel like you're inconveniencing them every time you ask for something. She cut me off in the middle of my order, and when I ordered dessert she left the table before I could say "...and some coffee please?" Then she was hurrying us to pay the check so she could get her tip because she was leaving. That wasn't so great, but I would still go back because in Aspen the choices are limited and despite the service, the food was pretty good. I would have given it 4 stars if it wasn't for the service.

If you want an AMAZING burger (or veggie burger for that matter), this is the place in Aspen for you. Little Annie's is not for the faint of heart or for the dieter, and even though the menu does have a few "lighter" options, if you are going to Little Annie's you may as well go all out. The chili, cheeseburger, spinach pie, and steak fries here are incredible and are perfect after-ski foods. This place is always packed, so don't come if short on time, but the ambiance is adorable and very folksy and the service is quick so it definitely makes up for it!

No, you don't need to be high on your endorphines to enjoy Little Annie's food and environment (see David S's review, to which I fully subscribe, for detail). It's probably among the cheapest places in town (but it's still in Aspen, don't take the word "cheap" too seriously), it's cozy, and comfortable, and serves large portions of good old comfort food.

Great locals spot. We hit up Annie's for lunch and I got the Hearty Beef Stew served with bread. It was delicious, I ordered a "half" and still couldn't finish it. It was good but I like my stews packed with a punch so I squirted some ketchup and lots of pepper and it was right up my alley.

I'd just gone running and was on a serious endorphin high when I went to get dinner at Little Annie's, so take my review for what it's worth. This is really isn't the kind of place that I would normally choose to go to (American food doesn't usually do it for me), but a friend of mine recommended it. So being in Aspen and not really knowing where to go for dinner, I decided to give it a try. Not sure if the endorphins are responsible or not, but I loved it! The place is rustic looking and really cozy: wood paneling on the walls and carpet... nothing fancy but the atmosphere was pleasant. The place is actually split into a bar area (a little rowdy when I went), and a restaurant area. They serve pretty typical American food: steak, fried chicken, burgers, sandwiches etc... but the quality is great. I'd had a craving for fish for a while so I decided to go for the blackened salmon, with sides of fries and coleslaw. I'm usually a little wary of fish when I'm away from the coasts, but it was actually very good. They also have a pretty wide beer selection, though most of them American, so I went for a local Fat Tire: yummy. Just like everywhere else in Aspen the prices are a little stiff, but I left full and satisfied. Sample from a conversation I overheard between three 8-10 year-old kids at a nearby table: Kid 1: Do you like sushi? Kid 2: Oh yes I love sushi. I especially like the salmon. Kid 3: I've never had sushi. Kid 1: What? You've never had sushi? Kid 2: Oh my God, he's never had sushi! ... Only in Aspen!...

We were in Aspen for a long weekend and had Little Annie's recommended at our hotel. With a 4 year old, kid-friendly is essential. This place fitted the bill and was perfect. A little bit like the cow girl hall of fame in Santa Fe, it was loud, but not too much so. Decent burgers, good service and value for Aspen. If you've got kids - we'd highly recommend this casual eatery.

This is good comfort food served that all the locals flock to. Good lunch and decent price for Aspen. Good place to bring the family. Not fancy but we would go there again. Servings are very adequate and checked tablecloths tell the story. When in Aspen would go again!

Service was absolutely terrible. Waitress dropped ranch dressing all over a brand new sweater, in my hair and on my beard. She never offered to get it cleaned, a free dessert or took off my salad. She never checked back on the super greasy dinner. After I left w/o tipping, she had the audacity to come out front and make comments to us. Here's a tip: don't make a mistake and then compound the problem by being a neglectful waitress. I know people make mistakes, but to ruin a brand new sweater and then ignore me is not the way to make me enjoy the experience in your restaurant. A very strongly worded letter will be sent tomorrow!

We came here to drink and eat - they had $3 shot-and-a-beer specials and my buddy's girlfriend got a pretty mean looking chicken fried steak. If I hadn't gorged myself on a piece of cheesecake (too much raspberry sauce) I would've tried to sneak some off her plate.
