I've actually been eating here for years but have never dropped them a review so I'm doing it now.....better late than never right?? So, Jilbertos is a tad bigger than a hole-in-the-wall joint with some indoor and outdoor seating. They are usually a 3-4 staff operation so things can be slow, but let me tell you, it is worth the wait! I have had almost everything on the menu at one point or another and I've never been disappointed! My go-to meals lately have been the Chorizo burrito and the Carnitas burrito. Both are delicious and prepared to your liking. A bit of a warning though, one burrito at Jilbertos is large enough to feed 2-3 Europeans or 1 very hungry American so you definitely get your money's worth. Enjoy!

Out of all the late college nights food runs, Jilbertos wins for the favorite place. The portions are ginormous and will probably feed you for 2 days. I've had a variety of items here, but my favorite is the fish burrito and super nachos. The meat is tender and juicy and they put the right amount of salsa in there as well. The only downside is the guacamole. The flavor and texture of the guacamole is really liquidity like it was blended for ten minutes. Other than that, they have a good salsa bar. I would definitely recommend this place. They give a UCR discount and to use card is now a $20 minimum!

Los Jil's Carne Asada fries are the best late night snack...I like that you can get a half order if you're not down for the entire meal. If you do get the regular plate, it's more than enough to share with a friend! You definitely want to bring cash since there is a $20 debit/credit card minimum And 10/10 would recommend their horchata!!!!

Late night Mexican food? Yes, please! My brother and I stopped in on a Friday after 10 pm for some grub. - Taco plate: 2 tacos, crisped up shell w/ beans, rice ($6.99). Brother ordered this one to try something new, he'd definitely go w/ his usual NAK burrito or chimichanga instead. - Medium Cantaloupe Agua Fresca: Drinks come in medium ($1.99) or large ($2.20) sizes. Refills are 50 cents each. If I had known my bro wanted some, I would've paid the extra 21 cents for a large! Thinking back, there were cantaloupe chunks that I didn't enjoy. I mean cool, real cantaloupe, but the chunks were in the way of the cool refreshing flavor. I wouldn't get this again. - NAK burrito: Avocado, fries, carne asada, pico de gallo, beans, and whatever else goes into your typical burrito that I may have missed ($6.50+ ... pretty sure it was higher than this). Overall, this burrito was pleasant, I'm not sure why people are blown away by this?? It made for great leftovers the next morning! The tortilla looked thin but held everything together very well. The ingredients all sounded cool, but I can't really speak to their individual flavors because it all looked like a giant pile of 'burrito filling' and I occasionally found a chunk of fries. All the guac was on one side so some bites were juicy, others were dry. The salsa helped! Apparently THIS and the carne asada fries are the things to get, all the kids in line were talking about them fries. Speaking of salsa, there's a salsa bar that you can walk around! Don't foolishly wait in line, head to the other side, duh! They have plastic bags for pickled veggies which is cool. I saw some larger cups for salsa too, if you like to drown your food. Their choices include your typical pico de gallo, salsa verde, and a variety of red ones that I didn't try. Finally, they have a UCR discount! Even though my brother ordered everything and showed his ID, only the taco plate was discounted... stingy! If I ran the place, I'd probably be stingy too but at least I'd ask if the group had another ID. Their table tiles are super cute and parking wasn't too bad so I won't hold a grudge. Remember to bring cash so you don't have to spend $$ on the ATM.

Best Mexican food around UCR! ***UCR students get special discount!!! Just show them your ID, and you are good to go. This is my favorite go to place for Mexican food when I'm at UCR. It's great food and you can't beat the prices. Their food potion is a lot too! I LOVE their Carne Asada Fries, which by the way I can never finish by myself, it's made to share, not to eat alone. They also have other food besides the fries that are just as good: Tequitos w/rice or their California Burrito w/French Fries. Did I mention their salsa bar is awesome? Unlimited salsa FTW! The only thing that sucks is there is a charge for using a debit/credit card here, which really sucks for me since I barely carry any cash. They have a ATM machine, but there is a surcharge of $2? I think. So I suggest you bring some cash with you so you can avoid the charges.

Love the Carne Asada Nachos and Fries. I also like the salsa bar. All different types of salsa available to choose from. The tortas and tacos are good too. The restaurant is always clean inside and they are open late. What more can you ask for. The food, service and restaurant are on point.

Always come to this place for their carne asada fries. Their costumer service is great and food is amazing. Took about 15 minutes to receive my order which wasn't bad at all considering there were about 3 people in front of me. Overall, would definitely recommend this place for their carne asada fries!

Not too bad, i came here on a wednesday night. We ordered to go, and heres what we ordered Taquito combo, with 4 taquitos rice and beans Two beef burrito combo, with rice and beans Shredded beef tostada Shredded beef taco Childrens bean and cheese combo. ----- Now any beans and cheese we had were good, they make good beans here and the rice was fine although i thought it needed a little more salt or seasoning but was still fine. Unfortunately the taquitos were horribly overcooked, and all of the shredded beef in them and the taco included was i credibly dry and chewy and flavorless, all we were eating was dried up semi burnt tortilla rolls......... Burritos all were great, and a great deal they give you a lot of food. The tostada was fine but again i felt that they needlessly overcooked the tostada shell so even that had a semi burn taste.... Spent a out 30$ for everything which for the amount of food we got was a good deal but there was a little quality lacking and some lack of care, although the girl at the counter was nice but shes just the cash register girl anyway, there was two guys cooking in the back. I have a child that eats very little and i didnt want to buy a whole kids combo so originally i asked if they could just make a really small bean and cheese and sell it to me for like 2 bucks, and so the girl asked some guy in the back and i was denied instantly, which was a little rude or at least a lack of care for a customer already spending 25$ at a hole in the wall taco stop.... I guess i see that a lot of college kids come for carne asada fries and love it, but ive never really liked that meal so i dont order it ever, nor does anyone in my family. Honestly cant come back especially when theres like 9,000 other restaurants in the area. Just spent too much to get one good meal(burritos combo) out of 30$ worth of food.. Worst part is that its actually called a "taco stop" and the taco and taquito( rolled taco ), were dried up overcooked crap.... Two stars at least just because the girl servicing the front was very nice and i kind of liked my burrito combo. "Note" the burrito combo i had and the tostada had different shredded beef. Which was the style with like red sauce and onions/peppers in it." The crap in the taquitos/tacos was dried up old lady skin........... Bleck!..... Dont let the 5 stars on yelp fool you! Read reviews and order right!!!!

I had the Zak burrito and it was just ok. Sauces are good. No utinsels to be found. Tons of flies in the outdoor eating area.

    (3)
  • Tieu M.

Had the mini tacos and they were very good! It's a small place and a typical Mexican taco shop. If you're used to a taco shop you will like this place.

    (4)
  • Briana T.

Love their carne asada fries! They aren't stingy with any of their portions and the toppings put it all together. Great place for Ucr students. Plus they offer a student discount!

  • I judge Y.

Damn misleading yelp reviews! I figured that I'd finally visit this lil Mexi joint! And if anyone loves Mexican food it's me! Anyhow my 4kids and I arrived and of course it looks like a lil junk joint from the outside! As I Park and my gut feeling tells me to get going! I decide to ignore my inner warnings of this place which usually ends with displeasing results! As soon as we walked in It felt like walking into an oven! Anyhow we ordered carne fries and carne nachos with a chicken hard shell taco! Chicken taco was dripping so much juice and of course my taco became completely soggy! The carne asada on the fries n nachos was decent besides the disgusting fact of my son noticing not one NOT 2 BUTTTT 3 HAIRS ON HIS PLATE! So I show the register girl and she said I don't see hairs and I told her look 1, 2 ,3 lol and she said ohhhhh ok I see them!! She asks if I want a new carne asada plate I said Nope can I have a refund? She said they don't give refunds lolllllllll YOU GUYS DO KNOW THAT UR IN AMERICA AND I CAN JUST SIMPLY CALL THE POLICE AND MAKE YOU GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK RIGHT? Who the hell do you guys think you are to assume that a customer cannot demand their refund? You're NOT IN MEXICOOOO! I will admit that I didn't feel liKe dealing with it much! And just threw the food away and went elsewhere to eat! I'm starting to have this trust issue with Mexican places! At least these small hole in the wall dirty ovens with bad customer service....the girl at this place wanted me to hand over my hairy plate so she can show the cooks! I told her uhmmm nope I need to take many pictures of this plate! Lol she then ran back to the kitchen to tell Julio, jose, marisco, jaun, and Alejandro! Lol ok ok I'm not sure what their names are! Lollllll but I'm sure I'm close if not DEAD ON! Anyhow absolute disgust! I need to stick to fancy restaurants when I don't feel like cooking!! I will admit something slightly disturbing as I waited for my food.... I was hungry of course! But while observing others as they feast their face off....I was in total disgust on how horrible the average person is ingesting food at such an alarming pace! It was like everyone was getting their fix? Not in a foodie type way but more like swallowing the food without properly chewing it? I felt like I was in the wrong place! They were mostly out of shape families and students....they were devouring their meal like it was the last one they'll ever have? Now this is alarming to me! I seriuosly asked myself whether this place represents what my true health goals are lol initially I thought the food must be outstanding.....look at all these piggies chow down! Then it hit me!! This is exactly what I must avoid eating if I'd like to add more years to come and retain my vibrant youth. I must avoid at all cost replicating these food addicts.... unless of course I want to become sluggish, sad, depressed, fat and controlled by unhealthy food that's truly toxic overload. I don't ever want to let myself go like these carne asada junkies! I felt depressed just watching them eat! And to be honest those hairs saved me from walking out feeling like how they looked. Thank You for opening my eyes on how not to eat... while visiting your place! It was a wake up call for me! That I'm veering into the wrong direction. Today I wake up with the right choices of juicing organic veggies before I hit the gym... where I actually feel good. And hopefully I work off whatever damage I've inflicted upon myself. For you fellow foodies like I....searching this yelp for the next bomb place....keep in mind that if you fall into this grotesque food inhalation habit....you will surely blow up! For those of you who don't care FEAST UP! But don't blame your tipping scale on your local fast food... blame it on the bad choices that you make!

Hands down the BEST carne asada fries I have ever had. These fries are totally different from ones I have ever eaten. They are a bit thinner allowing them to retain their crispiness/crunchiness so that they never got soggy or soft. They are still good the next day too! The carne asada is really tender and just extremely yummy. They give a HUGE amount that even between my boyfriend and I we usually never finish and if we do we are completely stuffed. They also have a salsa and chip bar to munch on as well. I've only gotten the carne asada fries here, but one of my friends got the breakfast burrito and I had a bite of it and was pretty disappointed. There was a bit too much potato in there for my liking in that when you took a bite you mainly tasted all potato and not much else.

Pretty good mexican food in riverside! 2 small chicken tacos filled me up and carne asada fries were pretty bomb. The fries were so crispy! I'll be down to come back the next time I'm in the area. The girl at the register was lowkey pretty rude though but it's all about da fooood

  • Rola B.

The food is 5 starss. But my rating is 3 now for this: I'm disappointed now because they have a new policy they only take credit cards for orders over $20! They have an ATM in there now too though snd the fee is $1.50 but that's asking you to pay for your money to use that money. I hate ATMs. Since I'm a regular, and I dont normally carry cash It's a hassle to start doing that. Recommendations: Tacos: carne asada, lengua, cabeza Burritos: KCCC (without fries), any Breakfast, the pollo is really good, bean and rice, Plate: carne asada super nachos Carne asada fries all really good. They do these 1/2 orders as well! And its big enough to be its own meal for one person I think. (Recommendations based on what i have tried and liked )

  • Denis L.

    - They DONT take debit cards unless you spend a minimum of $20. - There is not refill on anything. The food is not exactly to die for either, so I would rather drive to El Fogon during my lunch than going to this place that is next to where I work.

Best Burritos in Riverside! It's not hard to miss this lil gem on university ave. Great selection of mexican food items, traditional beans & rice. They have great chips & salsa! All these great reviews can't be wrong. Give them a try UCR students and all!

    (5)
  • Chris D.

Better than Albertos, or anywhere else near buy. Wish they had a drive thru. That is all you need to know but according to yelp that is not "adequate" there for I will continue to type gibberish into the review, and or letting my keyboard decide what word should go next. Keep those who is a few days of the new York NY and I am so I am so I am so I am so I am so I am so I am so I am so I am so that I am so that is not be in the new one more about it to see if you can you can you can you can have a lot to be able and the other way of to be see the other use of a few months ago but I can you can I am going to see you are the new one more years of the.

I came here on a Friday evening with two other friends for dinner. I ordered and split a carne asada nachos and a California burrito with a friend. Both were wonderful, solid choices. The meat in both were tender and juicy, very well-cooked. The sauces also went very well to help pick up the flavor (you can choose the sauces at the stand -- all seemed very fresh!) Could have been a bit more guacamole on the nachos to balance out the volume ratio, but still delicious nevertheless. The only gripe I have is the bathroom situation - it is located outside near the back, and at night it could seem a bit sketchy. Otherwise, solid food at great prices. Will be back again for a second filling!

This place is really good. I'm a real stickler for méxican food but this place definitely gets 5 joints on my board. The Carne asada fries are really good. The fries nice and crunchy. The meat nice and tender. I have also had the 4 mini pastor tacos and let me say there is nothing mini about them. The pastor was not greasy or tough. It was perfect must try if your in the area!!

  • Eliana Z.

Went here on a serendipitous late night run for Mexican food. It was one of the only places in the area open late, so there's that. Overall the food was nothing special, but what really left an impression were the beans and rice. We appreciated the quantity of food for the price that we paid--if you're on a budget, the portions will really give you a bang for your buck. Would probably come back again maybe to give it another shot and because it's open late.

Los Jilberto's never disappoints at any given hour. I even caught myself coming here once every week after my clinical rotations to grab a Nak or California burrito. Those two burritos are probably the best burritos I've ever had in Riverside. The meat is tender and flavorful, the potatoes and fries are crispy, what else is awesome about these burritos? I also get into a food coma right after eating one of them. I've also had the breakfast burritos which in my opinion are not the best, but decent enough that they are filling. The carne asada fries are delicious too. Los Jilberto's definitely lives up to the high ratings they have today, and people should definitely check this place out.

This place is nowhere near as good as everyone on yelp is claiming it is! I'm born and raised in Santa Ana and if I know one thing it's Mexican food!! I came here because I saw it had a 4 star rating and 300 plus shining reviews from yelpers. Well you all should be ashamed of yourselves for leading me astray. The tortillas here were possibly the worst I've ever had. Crispy taco was completely soggy with wet chicken filling. The salsas were forgettable. Last but not least there was a giant piece of BONE in my carnitas taco GROSS!!! I wish I never came here and wasted my money (9$ for 3 tacos?! What a rip off!) Yelp better people.

    (1)
  • Katie R.

Made a quick stop here on the way to Palm Springs. When I yelped "tacos" this place came up. Awesome, quick, authentic Mexican food. Their salsa bar is good! But it's an extra charge for chips which sucks.

  • Robin C.

Usually have no complaints but today they forgot to put GUAC in my carne asada fries. I paid $10 for cheese and sour cream fries. Messedup thing was that I got it to-go. So I only discovered this when I got home and was too lazy to drive back to demand for my GUAC. Also bring cash. They have a stupid policy where they charge .50 cents for using a credit or debit card. Hopefully this is a one time ordeal because they really are the best spot near UCR. Just can't believe they messed wit ya boys guac.

  • Linda P.

Food is wonderful! 4 stars for trying to save money by leaving the Ac off on a hot day.. It feels like a oven in there during early summer months because they don't turn it on and leave the doors open to air out the place. I hate the heat.. Would have been a 5 star if they had the Ac on at least to a minimum of 79 in there! OVEN~~ sweating while you eat is not fun but the food really just make it worth the sweating. I'll need to start to-going everything because I hate the heat but the food omg the food...

When i come here, I think of UCR. I came here often for the Carne Asada Fries. It tastes like college memories. I still remember the prostitutes walking around University or the homeless. Riverside has cleaned up a lot. but Los Jilbertos always had great memories. The Carne Asada Fries are a must 4.5/5.

  • Michelle C.

THE WORST MEXICAN I'VE EVER HAD. I never write reviews but I felt the need to do so for this place because the current reviews are extremely misleading. Terrible cheap food. Chicken tasted like it was from a fast food Chinese restaurant. Service was not very friendly. They give you really cheap flimsy plastic utensils and it is impossible to eat with. Their salsa bar selection was very limited and not good.

Before discovering this place, I was resorting to Santana's for my carne asada fries cravings. While Santana's has been adequately satisfying those needs, Los Jilberto's is on a whole other level. Two things keep me coming back here: Their Pollo Fries and their Aguas Frescas. Freshly made crispy fries with a mountain of grilled peppers, onions, chicken, cheese, and fresh pico de gallo on top? With the portions being freaking enormous? And being really cheap? The only other thing you could ask for is something to wash that deliciousness with. And that's where our hero comes in: the aguas frescas. The horchata here is good, horchata is always good. But the ice cold fruit juice/water that they make here is just pure bliss, especially on a hot day. It's always made with fresh fruit, and is a godsend when it's 90+ degrees (which will happen often since it's Riverside). My personal favorite is the cantaloupe, though the watermelon is also good. Just keep in mind there is a card charge, so y'know maybe bring cash. The place isn't 24-hrs but it is open til 2am so late-night food runs are still an option!

Jilberto's always closes early. The first time was reasonable. I thought, "Okay. This could be a fluke." The second time was frustrating. The third time was ridiculous. The fourth time pissed me off. Don't bother coming.

One of my favorite places for Mexican food. The food is actually really good. I've had most of the foods on the menu and they're all great. My favorites are super nachos or fries and the asada burrito. The place is neat and clean but the only thing that pisses me off are the tables inside. I know they're nice but you can put your drink straight on it especially since I get the bottles.

  • Ariana V.

As a student, I frequented Los Jilbertos for carne asada anything. Fries, nachos, burritos, tacos -- everything. My favorites were the NAK burrito (not sure if it's still there), california burrito, and any burrito mojado. Is it the best burrito ever?! I'm not sure, but it's prettttty awesome. Extremely filling and if you don't drink enough water you will be dehydrated. Of course carne asada fries and nachos are awesome too. This time though, the carne asada burrito mojado was toooooooooooo salty. I had a california burrito and it was heeaavy. And delicious. I finished about half or less (I could have eaten the whole thing, but my heart asked me to stop or else it would have stopped). Just don't expect to be productive after eating. Not sure if this is how it was when I was a student, but when I visited last week, there was a $20 min on credit card, $0.50 fee for debit. I'd say 4 stars, but the 5th star is for sentiment and all the good memories that were made here.

  • Lisa H.

The place I come to get my fix of carne asada fries when I was at UCR. I usually get the California Burrito and carne asada fries here. It's well worth the price for the amount of food you get. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is good.

    (4)
  • Adrian G.

Love this place! I'm never disappointed (only with the fact that my bra-size goes up because of how much food I eat when I come here). Not the biggest fan of the chicken here, but all of the other meats that I've tried were delicious - Carne asada, carnitas, al pastor and chili verde. Wish I could give it 4.5 **Update- They require a $20 minimum to use a card which is pretty damn annoying.** #DownGraded

  • Rene C.

In reality it's a 4.5! These are definitely some of the best carne Asada fries I've had! The fries are thin and crispy and they top it off with like a pound of carne Asada plus the cheese and guacamole! To add more flavor I suggest you add some of their hot sauce and you got yourself a meal for the day! Seriously the order is huge I think it was meant to be for more than 1 person! But yes if you like carne Asada fries this is the spot for you, be prepared to pay like 8-9 bucks but it's worth it!

  • Martin A.

It was ok. The food was decent. Not too bad and not wow. I had the mini taco special and I was surprised how good they tasted. I tasted the bean and cheese burrito and the beans were thick like they were cooked in lard. Not my preference but overall it was ok. Its like an Alberto's but Alberto's is better They charge .50 to use your card and .50 to refill a small drink and $1.00 to refill a large drink. Would I come back again maybe not. There are other places to try out on this street. I just moved out here and this was the first place I came to. Next time, will be a different place. Kinda sad, read alot of good reviews.

One of the best Mexican food places around! I LOVE this place and its open late on weekends. Ive had a few different items on the menu like tacos, tortas, carne asada fries, and their flotas. Ive never has a bad experience here and the food is always great. The restaurant is clean and the staff is super friendly. Check them out for good quality Mexican food and late night munchies.

Always my go-to place for a good Mexican food fix. It's so convenient especially since it's located close to UCR. I love getting a California burrito then splitting carne asada fries with whoever I'm with. Slap on some green salsa and you're in heaven! Watch out for the charge on using a card! Always make sure you have some cash on you.

My friend and I decided to stop by here for lunch since we noticed it had good reviews and 4 stars. We definitely don't regret it. It was super super good! I ordered the bacon potato and cheese breakfast burrito and it was tasty! The flour tortilla was excellent and altogether made the burrito great. I also ordered the horchata which was one of the best I've tasted. My friend ordered the Taquito plate which came with 4 taquitos rice and beans. She said it was tasty and fresh! We will be back and recommend this place!

First time I was here was after a club meeting at UCR. I shared the carne asada fries. YUMMM!! heart attack on a plate but soo good! The sour cream and guac and the perfectly golden fries. Delish! I douse it in their fresh pico de gallo. If you want carne asada nachos- go to Santanas, theirs are better. I also like like the fish taco combo and the carne asada taco combo. UCR Students get a 10% disc- remember to show your ID! And bring cash- they charge a service fee for Debit cards.

Best Carne Asada Fries EVERRRRRRRRRRRR. That's all I get here! They give you a huge portion and it is so deliciously good and the fries are fried to perfection!

Am rarely in Riverside but happened to be in town over the weekend. My friend and I stopped by here for the Carne Asada fries based on the Yelp reviews and the pictures. They weren't bad. The guacamole was more of a bland sauce and really, that's a good word to describe the entire dish: bland. The carne asada was good but the rest of it was just okay. It's a great idea but the execution is mediocre. Service was good and staff were friendly.

I've been here quite a few times. This place is more of a "take-out" Mexican food joint; therefore, I can only review this place based upon their Carne Asada burritos, nachos, and fries (since that's about all I order at any of these "take-out" Mexican food joints). The "California" burrito was definitely disappointing just because they overstuff this burrito with potatoes rather than fries. Additionally, the Carne Asada nachos wasn't as great as Santanas. However, I do believe that the Carne Asada fries do put Santanas to shame. The fries were crispy, fresh, thin, and not soggly compared to Mexican food joints like Santanas or Albertos. The pricing range for this place was just average. I mean all Mexican food joints have very similar pricing for the same portion. Having said, pricing was definitely not an issue. Overall, this place is decent for a huge craving for Mexican food, especially when the nachos or fries come in huge portions. Additionally, I would only come here for Carne Asada fries. But it's just a shame they close earlier compared to Santanas, which made me give this restaurant a four stars rather than five stars.

Carne asada fries plus ucr id for discount equals heaven! Best fries yet to be tried. Their California burrito to go with it and you are living it up. This is a good meal when you are drunk sober studying whatever mood you are. It always hits the spot. Too bad it closes at 2am. Wish it were 24 hours. Oh well all good things must close at some point.

  • Danny S.

I usually go to Santana's which is down the street from this place, but decided to go here for a change which wasn't a bad idea. I ordered the carne asada fries (since i read it was a large portion and was hungry) and compared to Santana's Los Jilbertos gives a little bit more than Santanas. The taste and everything was about the same and service was way faster than santana's.

    (4)
  • Hanson H.

Excellent for the price. It is even cheaper than Santana's and, IMO, the food tastes a little better as well. Portions also seem a little larger. I always just get the Cali burrito. I notice its dimensions are not consistent whenever I go. Sometimes it is light and sometimes it is heavy. It could also be wrapped more nicely.

Love the asada fries here. They aren't too salty or greasy. The fries are perfectly cooked - crispy outside, soft inside. And they don't even get soggy underneath all the toppings. It comes in two sizes, half or regular. Sharing them between the two of us is never a problem. The half is great for sharing as a snack, and the regular is great for sharing as a meal. Friendly service, too!

The carne asada tastes like it was boiled instead of grilled. Been here 3 times, so I gave them a chance. I'm guessing they cook the meat in a flat grill so all the fat stays there and the meat cooks in the fat giving it that boiled effect.

Went here to check out their Carne Asada fries because of all the boasting of the best Carne Asada fries in LA and possibly SoCal. And any place with that kind of boasting is worth my time checking out! Here's the review. It's open very late (check times on main page), and is on a major street. Sign is nicely lit in orange, green and yellow, so very easily visible. I ordered the Carne Asada Fries and their Carne Asada Burrito. What I should of ordered, instead of the separate orders of each (though gluttony isn't such a bad thing) is to have the burrito with Carne Asada Fries in it! I forget the name, but that's money! And on this night, to fulfill my purest tendencies, I had to try the Carne Asada Fries, and for good measure ordered the Carne Asada burrito, so I didn't go home hungry! My test of a great Carne Asada Fries will have to be 1) able to taste the Carne Asada (BEEF) and its flavoring 2) the actual crunchiness of the fries 3) doesn't make you feel heavy or tired! After all, we do care about our health! With that said, the Carne Asada was very flavorful, clean, very tasty and worth all the late night hassle driving, to get there! Afterwards, I wasn't craving fruit or coke, so that's a good sign that it's actually pretty light! But is it better than San Diego's Carne Asada Fries? That's why I haven't given it the prestigious five star! That's because I need to try a few more Carne Asada fries to judge correctly. So let's call it four and a half start right now and stay tuned for further updates!

I've been coming here for the past 4 years and it's been my go to Mexican joint in Riverside. And throughout all 4 years, I've had a hard time saying their name correctly but it goes as so: Los Hilbertos (yes, the J becomes a H). So please say it right. When you go, you need to try their California Burrito. But the key is to ask them to switch out the potatoes for french fries. It takes that burrito to a whole notho levo! It's like taking a mediocre burrito to an elite. If you're feeling extra hungry and don't mind getting fat and eating unhealthy, you should try their California Burrito DEEP FRIED. That's right, I said DEEP FRIED! It's like eating a HUGE Mexican dumpling (or empanada). You can't eat that without a fork, but it's SOOO GOOD. Everyone also always gets their Carne Asada Fries but I honestly think that their Pollo Asada Fries are wayyy better. It's not too popular but their chicken is really tender and soft. I prefer it over their Carne Asada any day! Make sure you ask for extra cilantro! JB's is also great for fundraisers. Throughout my years, my club has done tons of fundraisers with them and they were always eager to help us out. So that's why I love their service. Even when we get super loud, they're always so lenient with us. I guess after all, we are still getting them mad business. If you're looking for solid mexican food, go check it out! It comes second to Albertos IMO (in my opinion).

Pretty good - I had the carne asada burrito combo with rice and beans. The beans were very yummy. Carne asada burrito was yummy - avocado made for a creamy-ish filling that went very well with the meat.

So after having La Vics in San Jose this weekend, I came back to So Cal craving some mexican food!! So I visit my boyfriend and he mentions how his friend just recently told him about a mexican hole in the wall place that has really good carne asada fries. I was sure what could be so great about carne asada fries but I wanted a quesadilla so we decided to go. When we get there, I was surprised it wasn't as dirty as most mexican hole in the wall places were. I looked at their menu and I was a little disappointed that they didn't have my usual, super quesadilla, they only had a regular quesadilla. So we go order and I ask her if they are able to make carne asada quesadillas and she said yes, so I ordered that and we got an order of the carne asada fries. When we got it, we were amazed at how much food was given to us for the amount we paid too!! The carne asada fries were filled to the top of the box and they weren't stingy on anything!! The fries were so fresh and crispy and everything was spread out to perfection! The quesadilla was nothing I had expected! I was thinking of something flat with a sprinkle of meat in there, but nooooooooo, it was like a gigantic quesadilla with LAYERS of meat in there!! I'm usually a meat person but even for me this was TOO much! The quesadilla was sooo good though even though I did have to take some of the meat out!

Awesome food. I usually order the Carne Asada fries or nachos.... switching it up, depending on how I'm feeling. They're on University Ave... so no problems when coming FROM UCR.... but if you're going TO UCR you'll probably have to make a U-Turn somewhere. They're open till 12am... but I wish they'd stay open till 2am, closer and better than the 24hour McDonalds and way better than 7-11. Oh, if you frequent this location and drive a loud car... you might get 'yelled' at... heh. =\

I'm from San Diego so coming up here I was a bit worried of not being able to eat carne asada fries. But this place is a good substitute. They have the best carne asada fries and california burrito I've had here in Riverside. I really love their carnitas tacos. Their carne asada fries is decked out with crispy fries, well done meat, and guacamole and cheese. They also have a big serving of it. The tacos are really big. They like just put a chunk of whatever meat you like in the tortilla. The NAK burrito is ok, can get really dry though.

The BEST hole-in-the-wall Mexican food around UCR. Most people love the carne asada fries, but I'm loyal to the greasy goodness of the super nachos. All your basic food groups are there. You get giant box of chips, covered in carne asada, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. Absolutely delicious! I haven't been able to find a place that makes it as good as Los Jibertos anywhere. When I lived in Riverside, I think they raised their prices like 3 times, but that never stopped me from coming back. So good...

The monster burrito is awesome. It barely fits in that styrofoam take out box... diagonally. It's loaded with everything you can think of (including lettuce) and then covered in cheddar cheese and red enchilada sauce. Eat it with a fork and knife. I think they might lightly toast the torilla or flash fry it, because its a got a little crisp texture to it. It's amazing. Probably the best thing to eat around the university. If I remember correctly, it was only $5 too. I think they give a student discount.

I love this place! I always bring my boyfriend here to eat when he comes to visit Riverside. And this is the only place I go to get Carne Asada Fries - they are so yummy and so very artery clogging. Actually, my first encounter with carne asada fries was here too, and I believe the experience was magical. There's never a bad time for Los Jilbertos! This is definitely the place I go when I want to indulge. Muy delicioso! Their chimichangas aren't bad either, and they're pretty big!

Best. Fries. Ever. Carne Asada Fries here are hands down the most amazing ever. Secon is the Carne Asada Fries. Third is the Carne Asada Fries. Fourth is the California Burrito. Fifth is the Carne Asada Fries. GET THOSE FRIES! You won't regret it. Unless you don't enjoy delicious food. P.S. This place now closes at 12, so not so great for drunken food, good for just pure deliciousness

Best carne asada tacos and burrito I've ever had, their salsas are fantastic, and their horchata is BOMB I wish I lived in Cali just for this place I can't eat Mexican out in Wisconsin ever again it's just not the same.

I'm in town for the holidays and on my list of must-eats? Los Jilbertos. Would have to agree that the carne asada fries are the best I've ever had, throughout California. Doesn't skimp on the carne asada, strange guacamole that's a tad too lime green but so delicious, and tons of artery-clogging cheese and sour cream! ALSO key: crispy fries. I absolutely hate soggy fries that can't stand up to the toppings (but... to each their own).

Among the best of the 'greasy spoon' style Mexican food joints. CARNE ASADA FRIES! There I said it; got it out of the way. This place is home to some of the best carne asada fries I have ever had. People brag about Alberto's or Santana's but I prefer them here. The carne asada at Alberto's can be gamey on some occasions. But the biggest trump card is the fries themselves. They're skinny and crispy, which I prefer over Santana's thicker mushier crinkle cuts. The carne asada is tender and doesn't leave your jaw tired from trying to gnaw through it like at Alberto's. I prefer that nice crunchy sound and texture I get from eating these as compared to Santana's. I usually leave longer reviews but this is pretty much all I go here for. Pros: -Carne Asada Fries -Carne Asada Fries come with CRISPY french fries -Good Carne Asada plus Crispy French Fries = Heaven Cons: -There should be more Jilberto's closer to me - Can get packed at lunch time (as expected) -Small salsa area (I hate waiting when it's packed) Overall: Carne Asada Fries FTW!

  • Christine S.

I was a student at UCR and would come here ever so often. The only thing I would come here for is the CARNE ASADA FRIES! Fries piled with chopped carne asada, guacamole, sour cream, and cheese. I would pack up some jalapenos and salsas, grab a horchata, take it back to my apt, and go to town with it! I can't believe I was able to eat the whole thing by myself in one sitting! I wish the fries stayed somewhat crispy. They were always soggy even if I ate it in the restaurant. I have moved back home to Northridge after graduating, and the last time I had it was last summer when some friends and I went to Riverside for a friend's bday. It brought back great memories of gluttony.

After reading many reviews my husband and I decided to give Los Jibertos a try, I had chilie verde burrito and it had fair taste for a tomatillo based chile verde could of used stronger flavor with some heat. If we are in the area again we would stop again.

Not going to lie, i was going to give it five stars until i got stale tortillas for my taco. Still give it a try its good, better than santana's and they give you a UCR discount if you are a UCR student

I can't comment on the rest of the menu, but their carne asada fries are probably the best you'll have. Price may seem expensive, but they give you a butt load of fries and carne asada and other toppings. I usually load a lot of pico de gallo and green/red salsa on top of the fries. Their pickled carrots are also the best i've had at any mexican establishment. Very sour and very good. Only thing bad I have to say about the fries is that they are sometimes too soft. You should ask them to double fry your fries so they'll be crispy if you like them that way.

  • Justine O.

I love love love their carne asada fries! It's so much that I can never finish it in one sitting. I always have enough for a second meal. My boyf always gets the NAK burrito. I've taken a bite of it before and it's good, but I love the carne asada fries more! I honestly don't think I've ever tried anything else from here. But that's okay. The carne asada fries are just THAT good.

A friend of mine recommended the carne asada fries from Los Jilbertos so I decided to check this place out. It is honestly the best Mexican food place in downtown Riverside. Close to UCR which is a plus. I've had the Al Pastor meat, carne asada, and chicken. My personal favorite is the marinated pork, it's tender and juicy and full of flavor.

After snowboarding off all of the calories (and carbs) I had in my body last night, my friend decided to drive ALL the way from Mountain High (@ Wrightwood, CA) to Los Jilbertos (@ Riverside, CA) just to get their Carne Asada fries. They have some pictures of their plates and combos on their wall menu, and from the illustration (and my growling, hungry belly) it just seemed like the fries weren't gonna be all that filling. So... I ordered the carne asada fries PLUS two chicken tacos. I just ate the two chicken tacos for lunch today, thank you. I wish I would've taken a picture of the order - it was a piece of edible art. The plate is enormous! It's amazing - I'm sure I'll have to run every single day of this week just to help my conscience smooth away the memory of me jamming food in my mouth, fry after fry, each with a little bit of meat, guacamole and sour cream on top. And the price? So cheap! Needless to say, I'm gonna become a pro-snowboarder this season (HA!).

This has got to be one of my favorite Mexican places! I really do miss it now that I'm out of Riverside. Like everyone has said, Carne Asada fries are great and delicious. They are huge too! My roommate can make one order of fries into FOUR meals! (She doesn't eat a lot, but that's still crazy) Sometimes the actual fries are overcooked and taste like they were fried in old oil, but the amazing meat makes up for it. I've also gotten the burritos and quesadillas from this place, which aren't the best I've had, but sure helps those late night cravings. The best thing about Los Jilbertos? The SALSA BAR! I have yet to find one that is as fresh. You can get whatever you want, as much as you want. Remember to bring your UCR id card and get 10% off!

I recently moved to Riverside and this place is around the corner from me. I've been there at least 10 times, and will be going back. I've had the carne asada burrito and the nak burrito. I'd really prefer neither. The carne asada, while plentiful, seriously lacked flavor, as in there was none at all. The nak is more the style of burrito I'm used to, but in my opinion lacked flavor. However, this place really shines with their breakfast burritos! Huge, packed with ingredients and flavor, and a steal at 3.99 (for most options). They do have a minimum for cards, only take debit, and charge a fee on top of it. So make sure to stop at the ATM before you go.

When I went to UCR, we (my roommates and myself) would travel down University Ave at night. We would traverse past the mean mugging night crew (or what is better known as random groups of shady characters walking throughout Riverside when the sun goes down) and drive towards this Mexican restaurant called Los Jilbertos. When you walk here, there are all sorts of different characters that are mingling in this place at different time periods. Keep your head down, avoid eye contact and just order your food! Parking is super easy as you roll up, park, hop out and run to the entrance as fast as you can. You will be doing this two reasons: 1. You don't want to get jumped by that scary looking dude hanging outside. 2. You're super hungry and you just want some good food. All the kidding aside, their stuff here is awesome. Their Carne Asada fries and nachos are totally worth risking your life for. When you order inside, they usually put your food in a to go container so that you can have that awesomeness (aka the Carne Asada fries/nachos) later. I've had their burritos too and they're stuffed. You won't go hungry at all. You can load up on pico de gallo, salsa rojo/verde and the pickled assorted vegetables. If you're a UCR student, you get a discount. Great food w/ a discount? Count me in! If you're going to travel here, bring a group of friends. I dined in a couple of times but usually I ate in the confines of my apartment. I usually took my food to go. I usually ordered the Horchata too which is too good to pass up. The service is friendly and your food is made to order. Go visit. Avoid the shady characters. Be safe!

Best Mexician joint by UCR The NAK burrito is pretty awesome and the carne asada fries are really good too. If you order chips, they prepare them fresh in small made-to-order batches, and for only $1, you gotta try them.

In LA, you would think I would be eating delicious carne asada with all of these Mexican food trucks and restaurants. However, that is not the case. The best place to eat carne asada anything, would be... Los Jilbertos. I think I ate Los Jilbertos at least once a week when I went to UCR. I would order the Carne Asada Fries (fries, carne asada, sour cream, guac, cheese). Oh so good. Then a friend told me about the California Burrito (french fries, carne asada). Delicious. Sadly, I found out about the California Burrito my last month before graduating. On the bright side, I will continue to visit my beloved UCR while eating my California Burrito in hand. I will also recommend the carne asada quesadilla with guacamole. Yummmmmy

CARNE ASADA FRIES FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Delicious, mouth-watering, fatty goodness! No other place can compare to Los Jilbertos! The portion is HUGE so plan on sharing it with your friends unless you are a true heffer! Chimichangas are also delicious here! Have a horchata with your meal and I promise your tummy will be happy....although your waistline-- not so much!

My review is, like some others, based on one item - the Carne Asada Fries. That's all I get here. And for good reason. They're better than at Santana's. Also, Los Jilbertos takes credit cards unlike Santana's, but there is a hefty minimum charge. Unfortunately, it's not open 24 hours like Santana's is. However, based on the carne asada fries alone I'll say that the food is definitely better. For those without wheels, it definitely is a bit of a ways from campus, but it's worth the extra distance.

I love this place. If only I lived closer. My first visit here was as a freshman and I was introduced to REAL mexican food. This place used to look SUPER SHADDY outside, but from the look of the pictures, there's been some upgrade on appearance. The Carne Asada Fries and the Cali Burrito are my favorites. I wish I could go to Los J more often...if you're in Riverside, or near the area...you gotta stop by this place. It's WELL worth the calories!

  • Jeff H.

I had came here after a late night of shenanigans to fulfill my empty stomach with greasy, oil goodness. I looked at the menu and surprisingly, they had many options to choose from--from tacos to taquitos, carne asada nachos to tortas--this place is has a variety which what I want from an eatery. I have ordered the taco combo, and the tacos came out crisp, the rice and beans came out fresh; however, the salsa bar was kinda sloppy. It looked dirty and unsanitary. However, I was ultimately satisfied from the food that was served, the way its presented and the taste.

  • Paulina G.

I love this place, I usually come here for the Carne Asada Fries but I decided to switch it up a bit and ordered their California burrito. It was pretty good , so now i'll go back and try their NAK burrito.

I blame Los Jilbertos for all of the weight I gained my last 2 years at UCR. They need to make a documentary on this place like "Super Size Me" but focus on this store instead of McDonalds. I'm not going to talk about how great their carne asada fries are since 95% of the people here mention them in their reviews. Instead, I will talk about the prices. Los Jilbertos is the only Mexican spot that I've been to that sells half orders of Carne Asada Fries! So if you feel like experiencing a mild heart attack instead of a severe one, the option is there! They remodeled, so the place looks a bit nicer than what it used to. Their workers are always very kind. Their horchata is mmm mmm good like Campbell soup. I only wish they were open 24 hours. They do stay open pretty late, though. They pretty much have everything you could ask for in Mexican food. Can someone please explain to me why they do not sell carne asada fries in any of the Los Angeles mexican spots? Ugh!

    (5)
  • Armani C.

One of these days, I'll actually order something other than carne asada fries. They're pretty amazing. Service is quick, they stay open late, and they give a student discount. What's not to love?

  • Anthony C.

I've been coming here for about two years now and they have never disappointed me! Parking is very spacious and have plenty of space for big parties! I typically order their NAK burrito, which is a California Burrito with beans, guacamole, and french fries! Add a little bit of their special red sauce and BAM, the best burrito in town! They are also known for their Carne Asada Fries, which is awesome! Again, add their special red sauce, with a bit of their green sauce and once again... best fries in town! The workers there are always nice, willing to explain anything you need to know! They have other burritos and tacos, but for newcomers I would recommend what I ordered. ( If you're a UC Riverside student, show your I.D. and you get a fat discount )

I ate here for the first time last Saturday after a show at The Vibe. I was walking with my friend looking for Taco Bell and couldn't find it, so we ended-up here. I spent a little under $20 for two combo meals of Chile Relleno, Cheese Enchilada, beans, rice and cheese and a humongous Horchata, obviously! Delish....... In the SGV, we pretty much have Alfredo's and Alberto's- the divided business of a feuding, mexican-food family empire. However, while in the IE, I'm totally down with Los Jilbertos instead of staying neutral in this food war! Their Pico de Gallo salsa is even waaaayyyy better than Santana's. The staff was really nice, even when we busted in, one minute before closing time. I have to say, I am very impressed with their Ladies restroom. I walked in and the first thing that popped into my head was, "Whoa! This restroom is cleannnn!" That's another thing that made this place really awesome! You won't be disappointed!

  • John S.

The place is good, your typical Mexican joint with tacos, burritos and everything else. It is right down the street from UCR, that's why all the high ratings. This place is the bomb compared to the top ramen and hot pockets that college students eat.

    (3)
  • Lauren S.

From reading the rest of these reviews, I didn't realize there was a 24-hour mexican place on University. But no matter, I'm a loyal Los Jilbertos fan! I LOVE their carne asada fries, taquitos, and their beans are so good. One thing I must commend them on is their chimichanga. I'd never had one before, and their chimichanga plate is so big, my boss and I shared it and we still were stuffed! I subbed carne asada for a little extra, but it was worth it. The only thing that would make me love them more is if they were open 24-hours, but I really don't have a need for it.

    (5)
  • Helena D.

This is as close to authentic Mexican food as you can get in Riverside. Well, around the college community anyway. What makes it authentic is that they have lengua tacos! Oh how I crave for them. Not comparable to King Taco but still good. They're about a buck for the one tortilla mini tacos. Must try: NAK burrito and carne asada fries. They truly hit the spot to fulfill those midnight cravings. Too bad it isn't open 24 hours. But I'd absolutely go here without a doubt for Mexican food in Riverside. It's affordable and filling :)

  • Sophia C.

This place is great for those Mexican food cravings! The food comes in big portions and I absolutely love this place. My boyfriend first took me here and I fell in love! I'm someone who really hates cheese, and even without the cheese (which I admit, Mexican food tastes great with) the burrito I ate tasted amazing. Personally, I'm not a huge huge fan of the carne asada fries, they're very good, but whenever my boyfriend ate it the smell of cheese just overpowered and I couldn't handle it. Overall, this place is great and isn't too pricey. I would definitely recommend! I'm always excited when I come here to eat!

  • Rebecca C.

Best carne asada fries I have ever tasted. It's a good amount of good with lots of meat, cheese, guacamole, and many other things placed on top of the french fries. I always love taking a bunch of the free salsa from the salsa booth and spreading it on top. The free carrots are also so flavorful and a great combination with the fries and burrito. I usually can't finish the entire thing by myself so I either order the half size or share with a friend. If you are a UCR student, bring your ID card. You'll get a student discount. Parking is easy and the restaurant is fairly clean. The bathrooms are a little sketchy since it's outside in the back of the store, so I would recommend using the bathroom before you come.

I used to frequent this place my when this joint was called Mexico Viejo. I nearly cried tears of joy when they came back as Los Jilbertos. This place was super delicious, super unhealthy and pretty cheap. But yeah I loved this place dearly, the carne asada chips and Guacamole was one of my favs. They deep fry the chips, then throw on carne asada and guac and cheese... Delicious!! The Chicken enchiladas were also a big favorite as were the taquitos. Obviously with this kind of fatty greasy food, I'm sure it was not healthy... but when you're a bit drunk there is nothing that will taste better. I will always remember browning/blacking out, getting someone to take us to Jilbertos, pigging out and socializing with other disparate groups of drunk students from UCR. We did have a run-in with a crackhead or two, but that's just the magic of Jilbertos.

So what if Santana's is open 24 hours a day? Wouldn't you rather have food that is good even when sober? Their carne asada fries, as many others before me have said, is far better than Santana's down the street. I can't speak for their other food items, but I would definitely come back and sample their burritos, especially their breakfast ones. Mmmm, bacon.

  • John G.

I went to this place because it is rated really well. I have been here twice and got the exact same thing to see if maybe my first batch of AVERAGE carne asada fries was a fluke. But, i was given the same average tasting carne asada fries. I have tried better. The meat was not tasty at all. It was on the dry side. I've tried better @ Albertacos in San Diego.

What blew me away are the Carne Asada Fries. Every time I come here I am never disappointed about the yumminess of this mexican food. Ive been around small mexican joints, and this food joint is definatly flavorful and filling. Another flavorful delight is their grilled chicken burrito. Only thing that makes me a little eh are the scary bathroom placement, but the food makes up for it :D

For the past few years, I have been going here at least one day a week and let me tell you it the best Mexican food you can find around UCR. The carne asada fries & burrito are to die for. One time we even ordered some food for staff lunch and everyone at work loved it. Every time the food has been consistently good and it is not too expensive either. Highly recommended!

  • Penson L.

Pretty legit breakfast burritos. We usually make a pit stop here on our way to Big Bear. The bacon is deep fried so it's super crispy and delicious. The burritos don't look that big but they're long (length not girth amirite) and are quite filling. If you're looking for something less heavy the Mexican breakfast burrito is eggs, cheese, and pico de gallo. After a long day of snowboarding, we swing by here again for carne asada fries. It doesn't get much better than this folks.

So battle between Los Jilbertos and Santana's rages on. I've been going to both places basically my whole college career and the only reason I've gone to Santana's is because it's open 24 hours a day, but the food here at Jilbertos just seems to be level higher in quality and taste. But what really separates these 2 places for me is the carne asada fries, which Jilbertos wins battle hands down, no doubts about it. The fries are way better, thinner and a good crisp on the outside. The meat is also better, not chewy, and they seem to fry it up again to give it a little more bite to it. Can't for about the topping they put. Ahh, its kind of making me wish i was back at my apartment in Riverside (kind of). The gist... High points: Overall, the food here rocks, whether or not your comparing it to Santana's. It's also got amazing carne asada fries, probably the best I've tasted and I've had my share of carne asada fries in my search to find a substitute for Los Jilbertos. Low points: Wish it was open 24 hours instead of Santana's, but that might be all bad because an order of carne asada might just knock me out if I'm looking to pull an all nighter.

I have to say that I drive all the way from Long Beach just to get a taste of the carne asada fries i used to eat when I went to UCR. It's worth the drive and the wait. I'm also glad to see that they were able to put in a new security/camera system with all the profits I've been giving them over the past 7 years ;-) At least my money is being put to good use.

This place is very good. I stop by once in a while to grab their california burrito. The interior of the restaurant is very Spanish-like which I think is cool. Their food and service is great but one thing that I did not like was that we could not use a credit card unless we spent $25. That was the only payment my girlfriend and I had so we ended up buying a lot of food. So for those who are going there make sure you bring enough cash.

I ordered the Carne Asada Fries and Chorizo Plate. Both dishes were very good. I recommend people to come try this place. Friendly cashier and great food.

The reviews on Yelp recommending the carne asada fries are why I visited this place for lunch today. The carne asada fries were good, not quite sure what all the fuss is about though... I must admit however that these were the first carne asada fries I've ever tried. The horchata was excellent though. 65c charge for ATM, and a $25 minimum for credit cards, which breaks all the merchant agreements they have with visa, mastercard etc.

If you go to UCR this is one of our highlights! California Burritos and Carne Asada Fries Galore! Go get some of this if you are sick of dorm food! Oh yea and they do a deep fried california burrito! I call it the egg roll! Order it and you will know what i mean!

Driving around, what seems to me and the hubby, as a questionable neighborhood in Riverside, leads us to lunch. Checking out a company that the hubby wants to apply to near by, our stomachs are craving some good Mexican. This time, I go to the trusty Yelp app and find this place half a mile away. May I say, how totally random? Totally fearing for my life, we pull up, order two carne asada burritos and sit with a bunch of UCR students that (thank God!) frequent this place. The place itself is quaintly decorated in the Mexican style with wood and tiles. 10% for students, and a $0.50 charge for debit/ATM. Yummy burritos! For Riverside, I'm truly surprised. However, I'm docking a star for not giving tortilla chips! I mean what a silly thing to dock a star for but I've been to plenty of other taco joints and they hook you up with tortilla chips if you get burritos. I'm just saying....Shoot me if you want....but I just don't give a damn. =)

At a price that is affordable for the college student's budget, this Mexican joint offer the variety of Mexican food you love. They also give a discount for college students, making it an even more attractive restaurant.

I've had lunch and dinner, burritos and tacos, for here and to go from this place. Everything is pretty decent and worth getting if you're already there or at another location of this small chain, and recently they added some cheaper items on the side menu on the left wall, but everytime I'm there, I always get the carne asada fries ($6.99 + tax(0.61)). It's served in a to-go box and is more than one person could/should eat. Other foods cost between $3-7 and they have the huge cup that doesn't fit in any drink holder for under $2. If I'm in the area, I'll stop by just to get the carne asada fries to go, but depending on the length of your drive, they'll smell up the car and you'll wonder why you didn't just eat them there. You'll need some sauce since it can be a little dry, so make sure you grab a couple containers of red or green sauce while you wait, also grab some of the chopped tomatos/onions, but you can put it in the container when your food is ready. Also, you'll want to eat this with a fork. Note: Bring cash...Credit Card min here is $25 (I think) and theres a fee for debit, the bathrooms are pretty bad and accessed from outside, if you are a UCR student bring your card for the 10% discount, the tables are laquered and a little sticky, it can get pretty warm inside during the day in summer, think of this place as a hole in the wall chain that is decent with great fries for this grade of food.

Every time I go back to visit friends in Riverside, this is one of the places I always have to get food from. It has the BEST carne asada fries. I always order either the carne asada fries or the nak burrito, which is basically carne asada fries in a burrito. And I get it with a delicious cup of jamica :).

  • Angela C.

Yes yes sooo good... good Mexican food in the middle or Riverside waaaaaaahht?... yup that's right! It's seriously ghetto... my favorite part about this place is how you can bag all these marinated/pickled veggies and stuff it in a plastic bag to go. They have a lil' salsa bar on the side, kind of like what you'd see at Baja Fresh. I really like their carne asada burritos here! Get ready for clogged arteries and heart attacks galore~

  • Shannon L.

MMMMMMMMMMMMmmMMmmmmm CARNE ASADA FRIES!!!! It can feed two. On a bed of oily fries, there are carne asada, guacamole, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream.... what else can you ask for? Top it off yourself with some jalapenos & have some spicy pickled carrots on the side. I am so deprived of such wonderful combinations such as the aforementioned one now that I am in Northern California. This place is definitely a jewel among the horrible restaurants in desolate Riverside.

I didn't hear about Jilbertos until I was done with college. Sad, because this place is better than Santanas. I LOVE their carne asada fries here. Tip: This place doesn't have a "set" time to close. If its a slow night, they close early.

  • Janet S.

Three words; carne. asada. fries. Seriously, these things are BOMB! A big platter full of french fries topped with carne asada, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, all the amazing fixin's you could imagine. One order usually fills up me, my roommates, and our friends who are drinking at our place pretty decently. VERY filling and they don't keep in the fridge well so it's best to eat as much as you can before storing for later consumption :) Me and my buddy Grant recently went after a loong night of drinking and the carne asada fries proved to be an excellent cure for our hangovers. If only I could get these in San Jose, I'd be set wherever I went! Their horchata is delish as well (:

I have nothing to say but I love this damn place. Best hangover meal better. Carne Asada Fries, Machaca Burrito, Fish Burrito, Carne Asada Burrito, California burrito. It's all good. If you're ever next to UCR, you have to check it out. For under 10 bucks, you'll definitely get your money's worth.

Yuk. I don't know how anyone can give this a good review. Flavorless, fatty, unhealthy carne asada fries were so disappointing. Guacamole was disgusting, like a green purée instead of freshly chopped avocado. Really agree with another reviewer that it must be drunk college students who eat this stuff and think it's good. Rolled tacos were equally terrible and I threw most of it away - just couldn't justify the calories for this slop. Never going back.

When I think of good mexican food, my mind always reverts back to this place! Los jilbertos=5 stars!!! Great food at a reasonable price (not pricey, yet not cheap). i always go there and get 1 of 2 things, the carne asada fries and the carne asada fries burrito (forgot the name of it-it's been a while...). Quite frankly, I think that anything carne asada is good to go with. Also the Horchata (drink) is amazing-creamy but just enough, and not to the point where it's overdone. I believe that it's house-made. I wish I was back in college so that I could go to this place as often as I had used to...Oh well...but seriously, if you're in the area and crave Mexican (good Mexican), go here.

I've heard everybody talk about the carne asada fries so I decided to give them a try. The meat was ok in taste, I especially liked the mexican cheese that was spri.kled on top. The pictures I seen on here are great! But sadly mine did not look like that. overall I was a little disappointed. Sorry no more jilbertos for me.

So for the umpteenth time, I ate here for lunch and devoured an order of their mountainous carne asada nachos. As the pick for a "last meal" on my profile states, I LOVE my carne asada nachos with the meat, guac, beans, pico de gallo, and salsa, with no cheese and no sour cream. Nachos with no cheese? Ya, weird I know. If I had to have cheese, I'd choose the white. The nachos come with both cheddar and white mexican queso, cotija I think. Some may prefer the carne asada fries, but I crave that crunch only a deep-fried tortilla chip can bring. Their carne asada is similar to the other "Alberto's" around the Inland Empire and San Diego area. But the main difference between this "berto's" and "Alberto's" or "Santana's" down the street is that they use Vegetable oil. Most places use lard. I try to repeat, silently, the "vegetable oil" mantra every time I scarf one of these down all by my lonesome. I delude myself into thinking it's o.k. because they use vegetable oil. I've been coming here for years while hanging out with UCR buds back in my college days. I would drive from Cal State S.B. and head straight for the nachos or the carne asada burritos. Their soft tacos are nothing to sneeze at. They're huge, with the meat overflow that I like, peeking out of the tortilla; they might as well call it a burrito. They also offer, on occasion, the smaller tacos al carbon, for 99 cents. Honorable mention goes to the juicy al pastor. But, 10ths of a point taken away for no free drink refills. Burritos sell very well here, and one of the best WTF moments I've ever had was to see a picture of their infamous NAK burrito: Their carne asada burrito comes regularly with guacamole, meat, and freshly cut pico de gallo, but the NAK burrito takes it up a notch and adds french fries to the mix. WOW! Did they really need to do that? Why yes, they did have to.... because it's sooo gooooood!!!! Y-E-S to the N-A-K! Remember that when you stop by this longtime UC Riverside mexican-food haven!

This place is actually very good for what its worth. It is very popular late night hang out for college students. However, I suggest you bring a lot of friends because it is in the ghetto area. I see a lot of bums and crack heads hanging out here once in awhile. Last time I went, 8/10/09, their AC wasn't working; therefore, it was very uncomfortable eating inside. Overall, the food they serve is very good. It is one of those "hole in the wall" places; nothing fancy. I like their lengua burrito!

  • Terri H.

I really was eager to try this place considering the glowing reviews, but I was so bummed that my experience was at best only average. The Carne Asada fries were ok. The meat was an unappealing gray, overly chopped and kinda dry. Wish the fries were cooked longer, they were soft and mushy. My partner ordered a Nak with red sauce on top. He said the red sauce ruined the burrito. Next time no red sauce! Definitely not the best Mexican food. But not the worst either. Staff was super friendly. That's why I gave it three stars.

  • R D.

Mmm... Carne asada fries... And rice!!! I looooooove their rice here. I don't live in Riverside but when I am in town I try to get a good helping of it. I can't have too much oils or deep fried foods so my palate can be a bit picky at times but they are very, very considerate here and help out as much as they can. But I usually have the boyfriend buy the "bad" food so that I feel less guilty a few hours down the line when I have to take my pills to calm the rage inside my belly. After all, I got the chicken tacos on soft corn tortillas - my body is just overreacting. *^^*

Jilbertos is hands down my favorite place to eat in Riverside. The beans are delicious and their salsa bar is awesome. I really love getting chips with a small side of beans, a small side of enchellada sauce, and making my own nachos with the salsa and pico. Building your own nachos is great if you don't eat dairy or meat, and comes out to be ridiculously cheap when you throw in the student discount (show your ID card). The red and the more recent orange salsa are my favorites. Salsa is very important to me when I'm at a Mexican restaurant, and Jilbertos delivers. Always spicy and flavorful. The pico de gallo is good too but is often overwhelmed by onions. And its disappointing that they leave such small tongs in the pico, its like they don't want you to pile it on. I wish Jilbertos was open later. Often times I've had the craving for it late night, only to see that its closed. Sorry, but Santanas is horrible in comparison to Jilbertos. Thank you Jilbertos for providing me some awesome Mexican food in Riverside.

  • Kristen W.

Since the husband doesn't like Mexican food, I don't get it often and I went on Yelp to help me find a good place since I'm new in town. Los Jilbertos delivers exactly what I was looking for. I'm completely hooked on the Chile Verde platter. Tender pork in a delicious, somewhat spicy green sauce, choice of flour or corn tortillas, beans, rice, dollop of guacamole, pico, and wedge of lime. This is easily two meals for me. Maybe someday I'll get around to trying something else, but it's so good I can't help ordering the same thing again and again!

  • Ivan M.

Possibly my favorite Mexican food place in the area. The al pastor burrito meal is the bomb! The rice and beans are real good. However... The carne asada is not that great and I dont like the yellow tortillas they use for the tacos, much prefer the white tortillas. Price is mid range.

  • A C.

I really don't understand all of the high reviews for this place. I just need to level the field a little bit. The food is bland. People rave about the CA fries here and how it's so much better than Santana's or the other places. The fries might be crispier and fresher, yes, but they are bland as cardboard. Same goes for the CA burritos. Salsa bar is not good at all, and all the food is just dry and leaves you unsatisfied. For the inland empire, it's not bad. But definitely not at the star level most people are giving this place.

  • Ronald K.

The service was great. The food was delicious. I had the Carne Asada Fries and my friend had the Carne Asada Burrito combination plate. Both were made beautifully. I love the way the burrito plate was presented. But, the Carne Asada Fries....BOMB!!! Way good. Great experience!!

    (5)
  • Rowan C.

The best Carne Asada fries in the IE. Don't get me wrong - the best CA Fries are to be found in San Diego, but these will do. Most places around here don't know how well to cook the fries, or the carne asada isn't flavored well. Los Jilbertos does a good job. It's a definite must if you're craving and don't want to take a trip to SD.

  • Drew W.

Got the asada fries I heard so much about. Very tasty but the charge .65 Cents for using your ATM card and that's one thing I always hated about mom and pop shops. But it was a very good size.

  • Tracy S.

I hate Riverside, but I LOVE Jilbertos. I miss it so much. Oh how I crave for their Carne Asada Fries...:( This is by far the BEST Carne Asada Fries I've ever had. And I love drowning it with the green sauce and extra pico de gallo. omgosh, drool. The portion is huge so when it's only for me, I order the half portion. UCR students also get 10% off!

    (5)
  • T T.

Pretty good. Carne asada nachos were lacking cheese but meat was good. Priced a bit high for what you get compared to San Diego.

    (4)
  • Jon L.

I've never had carne asada fries as great as this place! i've had them at albertos and other places nothing compares to Los J. My friend from San Diego says the fries down there dont compare....If you go UCR and dont know about this place there is something wrong with you. hahah =p Back when first ate there, there was no such thing as a half order. I also like the carne asada burrito (nothing but meat and guac) and the fish burrito. you gotta try it for yourself!

    (5)
  • Bobby P.

Nak Burrito if your unsure what to get... Show UCR student ID for a discount! great food if you dont mind a few flies in the summer time!

  • Mr. S.

Well. I love this place what can I say? . I love getting a bunch of pico de gallo from their salsa bar and topping it on my carne asada nachos or fries! Their regular quesadilla is huge and good too, carne asada burrito is about the same as Santanas but a big higher on quality.. Fish taco is yum (same with the burrito), Carne asada plate is yum! Only complaint about this place is that it could use a drive thru and be open 24/7! Place is cheaper than Santanas though (UCR discount), and a higher quality.. Oh, this place isn't even that ghetto. I came with a friend once and he stayed in the car because he said "its like east LA" nah, it's nice

    (4)
  • Michael P.

Went here two days in a row for lunch. Had the carnitas burrito which was pretty good. The next day I got the Carne asada fries. I know people rave about them, but Mexican restaurants just shouldn't have French fries. They were okay, the fries were very good, the toppings just okay, guacamole very disappointing. I'll stick with Mexican food next time.

    (4)
  • Johanna L.

Los Jilbertos is so yummy! Best Mexican food in the UCR area. If you're looking to eat a delicious meal that will probably leave you feeling gross afterward, then allow Los Jilbertos to give you that gross feeling because it sure is worth it. Grab an order of carne asada fries and feel like a champion after finishing the whole thing. Their burritos are good too - my favorite is the NAK burrito. Don't forget the horchata to wash down the numerous chunks of meat!

    (5)
  • Jenny J.

I was hesitant about coming here because it was a small place. But my friends and I thought that we should try it since we were going to be living out here while attending UCR. We went in and I ordered the carne asada fries and some else ordered the super nachos. Both of these are a win. The carne asada is tasty and the nachos are crunch while having a lot of guacamole and pico de gallo to eat along with the chips and meat. The carne asada fries are delicious. We walked in doubtful and we left full and happy. We will definitely be coming here again and hopefully trying something else.

  • Tina C.

I can't say anything bad about this place. Definitely the best place to go to for authentic Mexican fast food in Riverside. Quality of food is consistent. Its cheap and the portions are huge. Best carne asada tacos I've ever had. Their beans are smooth and salty; I normally don't like re-fried beans, but I love theirs. The rice is delicious, its fluffy with a lot of flavor. Restaurant is pretty clean. There's a bar with free salsa and pickled carrots. Their green salsa verde is awesome. Also, if you show them your student ID card, you get a 10% discount.

  • Liz V.

I come here for lunch often. The cashier lady pretty much knows me. I either get carnitas tacos or carne asada fries and always a large jamaica. I picky about my meat and the meat here is usually good, not too much fat and tendons and things like that. I just wished they had a drive-thru.

  • Riwana T.

you've heard it a million times, and i'll say it again. CARNE ASADA FRIES. those 3 words alone makes this place deserve 5 stars. if you ever bothering venturing out from that delicious plate of heaven, try the NAK burrito. i'm in love with that too.

    (5)
  • Heather C.

Seriously the best Mexican restaurant in the area BY FAR. I live in the Bay Area but will make it a point to go to Los Jilbertos every time I visit Southern California. I miss it so much!

Had dinner here tonight before the "Can't Stop the Serenity" event at the Ultra Star Theater in University Village. Aside from the obvious inexperience of the cashier (she was clearly new), the food was really good! I got a rice, bean, and cheese burrito with lettuce, pico de gallo, and potatoes and it was a pound of absolute goodness. The BF got the carne asada burrito and was pleasantly surprised that it was all carne asada with no filler! Great fresh ingredients and just great eats. Will definitely be back again!!

This place is THE best. Carne asada fries, nak burrito, pollo asado burrito, breakfast burritos are some of the things I usually rotate between. Go to this place if you're hankering some mexican food, you will not be disappointed.

Love this place and their carne asada fries. i would love this place even more once they install AC. it gets pretty damn hot in riverside! mexican food and heat does not go well together!

Aww mann! Three words! Carne Asada Fries! They are the bomb! If you want something good and cheap C.A.F. are the way to go. The order comes with a whopping portion of fries, carne asada and theyre secret white creamy sauce. Its only about 6 or 7 bucks and it will feed 2 adults comfortably or three small children. Ive been there only twice and I cant see my self ordering anything else but Im sure the other food is pretty good as well. Just dont go too late because its kinda in the hood. You know what they say about the hood, the best food comes from the hood.

JB's (abbreviation of Los Jilberto's...kinda doesn't make sense at all...should be LJ's but whatever, that's how I was introduced to it so there) will always have a special part in my heart. No other place does carne asada fries like JB's, even with the substitute of skinny fries. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't taste as good anywhere else! They add the perfect amount of sour cream and guacamole, shredded cheese, a thick blanket of tender carne asada, and a dusting of Mexican cheese. It's just....just so...good. And for a price that won't burn a hole in your wallet, perfect for college students. Definitely not good for the body. But without a doubt a blessing to your soul. Their super nachos are also amayjing. The tortilla chips are perfectly fried: not too flaky, not too crunchy...just a perfect crispiness. What makes their food even more delicious is the unlimited, self-serve salsa bar. Their pico de gallo is soooo fresh and well seasoned with an almost perfect tomato to onion to cilantro ratio. Their salsa verde is so good with a mild heat, their mild salsa not reminiscent of ketchup (like a lot of places), and their spicy salsa (my favorite) perfectly blended to add good heat to your food. One time, I just ordered a large soda cup (which is HUGE) of just pico de gallo and got charged only $3.50 for it :D. Just goes to so show how great service is there, too! Oh, I also love their refried beans. Soooo good, especially since they put it in a tortilla bowl with any combo plate. The orange rice is delish, too. And their tortillas have a perfect chewiness to them. Their burritos? LOADED with meat and cheese! No fillers like beans and rice, here. Unless of course you get the been and cheese burrito............. o.O. Well, now that I live back at home, 45 minutes away from this place that used to give me strength when I once was the master of procrastination at UCR, all I can do is wish for the power of teleportation. Until then, I will have to wait for the willingness to drive over the valleys of the 91 for another moment of super fries goodness.

The famous place for the Carne Asada Fries! I have, since moved onto Carnitas Fries, since I feel it has more flavor. Get the half order and hope their Math is a bit off and you get nearly a full order.! lol! The burritos are great, all meat and no bean/rice fillers like you see at almost every Mexican restaurant.

I tried this place twice just to be fair, but I really do not like the food. I actually left it unfinished both times and just tossed it and I rarely do that unless it's really bad. I only commented because I can't believe this is so highly rated.

Los Jilbertos is the best Mexican inspired fast food restaurant anywhere near UCR campus. The food is cooked fresh, and given out in large portions (especially the carne asada fries). The servers are very friendly, and there is also a student discount if you bring your UCR ID. They used to close very late but that changed recently, so if you have the late night munchies or crave tacos late at night your best bet will be have to be Santana's. Overall I highly recommend the burritos and the carne asada fries, this place is very good.

    (4)
  • Matthew J.

The best place to get Mexican food if you go to UCR or live adjacent to the campus. Plus they offer UCR student discount which is always a plus. I always been a loyal Santana's customer but finally converted to this place my senior year. The carne asada fries are really good. I always order the fish taco plate and a large horchata. The rice and beans are surprisingly good...I even order extra rice with my combo plate when I go here sometimes. The salsa is always fresh...which is why I load up on it while I wait for my order. In my opinion this place is better and cheaper than Santana's.

One of the best hole in the wall place in Riverside. And I love that they have breakfast all day! Try the bacon burrito!!

  • Julia M.

My boyfriend used to attend UCR and said he lived off this place while he was there. After he took me I understand why. I've tried a lot of things from their menu and nothing was ever bad. Where to start... CARNE ASADA FRIES!!! Possibly the best food on the planet. Their steak is perfectly seasoned and they slather on so much sour cream and guacamole that you feel like you're in heaven. Add two kinds of cheese and throw it on top of golden brown and delicious french fries and wait for the delicious heart attack. Best breakfast burritos I've ever had (they actually deep fry their bacon which somehow makes it better). Awesome bean and cheese burritos, tacos are great, but with such fresh and flavorful ingredients how could anything not be? Also- their salsa bar is better than average. Totally worth the extra calories.

I dont know where all these people come from, giving this place 5 stars. These are some of the worst tacos I have ever had. 1) the place was dirty 2) It was hot inside the restaurant. 3) The tacos had too much stuff inside them. The tacos came with pico de gallo, guacamole, and too much greasy meat. What happened to just onions and cilantro? 4)The tortillas were really big, and low quality, and fell apart. 5)The meat was incredibly greasy, and had no flavor whatsoever.

Great tacos al pastor y de cabeza. The enchiladas were alright as I recall, but I go just for the tacos.

  • Jasper H.

This is the ONLY Mexican joint worth visiting near UC Riverside as the Carne Asada Fries is by far the best thing on the menu. I have never been to any other Mexican restaurant whose Asada Fries even come close to the Asada Fries served at Los Jilobertos. However, if you ever feel like mixing things up a bit, try the Chimichanga but substitute carne asada in for the shredded beef. Can't Lose...

During my days at Riverside, I would frequent Albertos rather than try LosJil because my college friends said Albertos is the OG. Anyway, fast forward to now and I read many positive Yelp reviews about LosJil. So why not try it? On an evening my husband was craving carne asada fries, I suggested LosJil. He responded, "What?! That place is ghetto!" I then said, "But Uni. Ave is going through a make over to be more safe and pretty. Besides, LosJil is on Best of Yelp for our area. And REALLY, you're talking about ghetto, when we live in MoVal-home of the ghetto." He begrudgingly obliges, gets his bulletproof vest on (j/k), and we're off to Uni Ave. We walk in to Los Jil and there's is a bunch of UCR students happily eating carne asada fries and other mexican delights. Of course, we order the carne asada fries and 4 rolled tacos. The portions are huge and muy deliciouso. Even though I wasn't hungry and said I would only take one bite of food, I ended up with a good share of the carne asada fries. Its that good.

Best burrito I've ever had. End of story. The entire menu is unbelievably cheap, although it didn't have to be to bring me back whenever I'm in the area. This is one of my most favorite joints. I'd give it a 10 star if I could.

  • Olivia T.

CARNE ASADA FRIES! SO GOOD! My friends and I graduated from UCR 7 years ago but we'll still drive 45 minutes just for the Carne Asada Fries. Their Fish Burrito is pretty good too! This place is a must for UCR students!

  • Tich L.

Cleanest mexican place around. Love the pastor tacos! Chimicanga is fresh and crispy. Usually cant finish my plate. Recommended!

  • Red B.

simple as it sounds, their bean and cheese burrito is my favorite in the UCR area...salsa bar is good, but what you really need to do is jam those fuckin escabeched jalapenos down into the burrito so that the crunch they provide offsets the creamy bean and cheese. the chips and guacamole are a good deal, too. back in the day, when i ate meat, the carne asada fries or supernachos were an insane amount of food for not a lot of money...and the quality was good, too. I wish they still had tamarindo, but at least they've got jamaica, pina and horchata. not too shabby. some boneheads think santanas is the shit, but anyone who's been to a jilbertos or even an albertos is gonna know that that's just some dumbdumb talk quantity servings, great prices, good taste

  • Annie N.

I dont understand the hype about this place, maybe bc im fr sd. Got the Carne Asada Fries like everyone said and it was ehhh, mainly because of the price. Almost $8 for fries?!?! Ok so the portion was huge but still they are fries! The ratio was like 4 to one for fries to carne. It tasted good, but not worth the money. Im sticking to mexican food in sd or at least rubios or chipotle

    (3)
  • Chris Y.

This gets 4 stars for one reason, and 1 reason only...CARNE ASADA FRIES, that's the only thing I get here. I'm a veteran in R-side, and remember when it was like 5$ now it's gotten up to 7$ for a full order...that's how popular they've gotten in just a few years...As some other reviewers know...it's a small chain so it also exists in the Temecula area as well...but yea, if you go here, get carne asada fries, pack it on with pico del gallo, and all the different sauces, red, green, you name it....and you'll be utterly pleased...this one of the only things worth eating in Riverside...and I know...I've lived there for years...

    (4)
  • MiYong E.

Asada fries. Asada fries. Asada fries. There are very limited joints to check out in Riverside. So, if you are in Riverside, go to this taco shop and order Asada fries. They have the normal size and a smaller size. The other menu items are good, too. But you must get the Asada fries.

  • Teresa Y.

I'm a BIG fan of hole-in-the-wall Mexican places. Since my first visit almost 7 years ago, the quality and portions have decreased. What used to be a "half order of carne asada fries" (almost close to a full order) has now turned into literally a half order. The prices have dramatically increased over the last 5 years, probably because of the remodel. If you're new to Riverside, definitely give this place a try. Los Jilbertos must haves: Carne asada burrito Carne asada fries Tortas (chorizo or beef) Breakfast burrito Horchata

  • Annie C.

Love their nak burrito and fries!!

    (5)
  • D J.

The carne asada fries are good, but nothing to rave about really...the fries get a bit heavy for my taste...Their regular tacos/burritos are actually better..the carne asada is flavorful..just a good mexican food joint.

  • April M.

Try the carne aside fries if you eat here - they are the best! Food portions are generous and of good quality. Major hole in the wall in a poor neighborhood - lock your car. Food is definitely worth it!

    (5)
  • Oscar L.

Nothing great about this place. I read good reviews about it but I guess people don't really know good Mexican food. I got some fish tacos that were extremely small. I've had better fish tacos at the Taco Station for the same price. The selection of salsa is not that big either plus the salsa was too watery without any spice. I was also charged a convenience fee to use my bank card because there isn't a credit option. I was also charged for a refill on my soft drink, I couldn't believe it! All the other restaurants have free refills. I saw a picture of the carne asada fries on the menu and they didn't look appealing to me so I don't know what's the big deal and nor I have interest in trying them either.

  • Jen P.

Not bad, not amazingly great. Typical dirty hole-in-the-wall place with no AC and lots of flies. Food is decent priced overall and service is typical fast food style. I had the crane asada fries and it wasn't as good as I was hoping from all the reviews here. The meat wasn't very flavorful, just sort of there and was mostly covered up by the cheese. All in all, it was like a heart attack in a box that wasn't worth really it. Still, the place wasn't bad and it looked a though they did have a few good items on their menu (which I will try next time.)

  • Ed L.

Round 5 of Remembering Riverside Los Jos was the place to fill your stomachs with extremely affordable and heavy food. Their carne asada fries were always a treat, piled high with meat and cheese and some more meat. Their breakfast burritos were all delicious as well, as long as I got it without potatoes. Another great thing about this place is I worked like 4 buildings down from it.

  • Kyle M.

I just ate at this place today. I had the chimichanga meal it hit the spot for lunch and I still have more than enough for dinner.

  • Kevin A.

One of the more authentic mexican food. I visit this place everytime i come back home from school. I would recommend the narc burrito! Good Quality food at cheap price. The decor isn't to great but that is how you know that the food is authentic!

    (4)
  • Robert G.

Average mexican food. I don't get it's high rating. Go to Canton Chineese across the street....that's seriously good.

    (2)
  • Chris V.

This place looks really nice inside traditional Mexican food. There's a snag though, most of the food tastes like nothing. The meat isn't fresh the only thing I found with flavor was the guacamole. If you were to eat here, only order the California Burrito or Carne Asada Fries. Rolled tacos have no flavor. The beans and rice are horrible. I ate there last week.

    (1)
  • Jenna T.

I blame Los J's for me being so fat. Ugh I love their carne asada fries and California burritos. Yum! I always overload on salsa. The red one is super hot but I like it. 10% with student id card (if applicable).

  • Christina M.

This is the BEST PLACE EVER for Carne Asada Fries! I haven't been to riverside in 3 years... since I graduated in 2005... but I often contemplate driving there not to see my friends, but for my fix of the carne asada fries! Gosh I miss those... its probably why I actually miss riverside so much!

Now, it's common knowledge that french fries, along with fast food in general, are harmful to your health, full of fat, yadda yadda yadda. However, if there's one food you want to eat before you die, it's the carne asada fries at Jilbertos. No lie, you will most likely feel like a heart attack is on its way after you finish eating, but it is soo worth it. They pile carne asada on top, along with guacamole, sour cream, and melted cheese to compile one of the messiest foods you could ever encounter. It's a pretty small, grungy looking spot right before you hit the shady side of Riverside, but it's worth it. And oh yeah, the rest of their food is pretty tasty as well.

    (4)
  • Ruth L.

Waaaay better than Santana's. Food is delicious and not incredibly greasy like Santana's. 10% discount for UCR students. Great enchilada sauce. They don't mind weird orders at all.

    (5)
  • Earvin F.

Excellent place for authentic greasy Mexican food. If you know Albertos, nice alternative since no Albertos is near the UCR area. All about the Carne Asada Fries or California Burrito. Any local or college student will tell you that Cali Burrito is the most widely ordered burrito. Note: After reading other reviews, come here if you are hungry and don't really care for the ambiance. Not the cleanest Mexican fast food restaurant in the area. Food quality over appearance.

    (4)
  • Stephen E.

Los Jilbertos is the spot! They have way better Carne Asada Fries than Santana's, and California burrito.

Carne asada fries here = San Diego carne asada fries, need I say more?

  • Vy N.

Oh Man... How much did I love Los Jilbertos while attending UCR? Umm lets see: 1. Passing by hookers servicing their johns? Check! 2. Preparing to hit the brakes because at any moment a brawl could occur right in the middle of a busy street? Check! (I learned to have very quick reflex) 3. Reciting Hail Mary and asking for God's redemption because I could get my ass capped at any moment? Check! Check! Check! So what to order here? CARNE ASADA FRIES! Yea those fries were definitely worth the burning of my virginal eyes and putting my life at risk... At least I can say to people I'm hardcore like that yo... 909 reprezent!

  • John L.

Mediocre mexican restaurant that borders on terrible and doesn't make one damn tasty thing at all. Sure it'll do in a drunk pinch, but everything is greasy, they equate quantity = quality, and it's just generally half assed. Even something like carne fries they use some sort of small shredded cheese that must be so highly processed and cheap that it doesn't melt at all inside the box? What the hell? They do have a rather unique and tasty homemade pico de gallo though, made fresh. But they just manage to do barely better than the 24hr drive thru mexican fast food place across the street. Oh yeah, and as far as I remember this place was never open past midnight. So it's not even a prime spot for post drinking munchies.

Go here for good carne asada fries...

    (4)
  • Gia P.

forget the places in san diego. this place has THE best carne asada fries EVER. that's it. the only bad part is that they're not 24 hours like albertos. albertos is 24 hours but just does not compare at ALL.

    (5)
  • Gilbert S.

eeh...this place is over-hyped. for the price it was not worth all the grease. More grease than flavor - keep the manteca in the bucket please! Beans tasted like mediocre store bought canned beans. They're in the perfect location for the inebriated college student in search of the of that nasty meal that will soak up all the alcohol. 2 tacos from Jack In the Box will do just fine.

I ordered the California burrito and it was delicious! It's so hard finding places that add potato to their burrito. This is one of the best burritos I've ever had. I also ordered a breakfast burrito: bacon, eggs, and potato, for someone else. I tried it and it was even better than the California burrito!! The bacon was not soggy and so flavorful! The second time I went, I had a chicken asado burrito with added rice and potato. It was alright but not as good as the above burrito. It had shredded chicken and I'm not sure why I was expecting cubed chicken. I also tried the half order of the super nachos. Surprisingly good for the little amount of cheese they add. The half order was more than enough for one person! I did not care too much for the self serve salsa. The first time I had it, it had some weird funk to it - like a weird smell. The second time I didn't notice anything strange but it was still too spicy for me.

  • Cindy T.

I used to go to Jilbertos a lot when I went to UCR. From what I can remember heir carne asada fries and California burrito are both delicious. I am not too sure of their hours but I don't think they're open late night like Santanas is. I guess that's minus one star. Overall, the food is good and it's like any other fast food Mexican restaurants but one of the best in the rside area.

    (4)
  • AM A.

Well I came to this place because of all the fanfare this place has on here. I thought it was rather average, I had the carne asada fries and my buddy had the quesadilla. It was a cool little athmosphere to hang out at. But if you really want some good carne asada fries go to Alberto's in Rialto.

    (3)
  • Joe G.

Best Nacho Supreme plate in Riverside! Hot carne asada, three types of cheeses, tasty guacamole, and very good salsa. Burritos are also very good here. Gulp it all down with an agua de jamaica and you are in complete nirvana. Too bad they're not open any later than 9pm or I'd be driving across town at any hour of the night for a quick bite.

    (4)
  • Crystle P.

Three words.. CARNE ASADA FRIES. Think McDonalds fries with a whole lot of Mexican happiness on top. They don't skimp on the guacamole, sour cream , carna asada, or cheese. This is a heart attack in a styrofoam box. But it will be worth it. And their pico de gallo at the salsa bar is the best I have ever had. The NAK burrito is the one i choose when I'm not feeling like fries.. named after one of the frats at UCR. Oh and also try their horchata, it's not amazing but its still yummy. But get it without ice.. i think it tastes funny after the ice melts. -_-

    (5)
  • Jessica Y.

I used to visit my sister at UCR just for an excuse to come get the super nachos here and I used to make her bring it home for me all the time. Now that she's been out of school for many years, I no longer have a reason to drive so fricken far. We still crave it and we still talk about it. There's also been a few occasions after her graduation where we've taken a major detour to swing by here.

    (5)
  • sonya h.

I miss their carne asada fries, chicken burritos and steak tacos. I used to come here all the time when I went to UCR. The place is old, dirty and they do not have AC but the food is tha bomb!

    (4)
  • Aaron F.

We got the carne asada fries, since everyone raves about them, and they're pretty much as described: french fries covered in carne asada, guacamole, salsa and cheese. It's a little much for me, but I can see why people love it. I had a fish taco and a carnitas taco, and they were both gigantic and excellent. The carnitas taco alone had to weigh half a pound, but the meat was delicious.

    (4)
  • Christopher L.

I drove after a very long weekend to this place from Mexicali based on a suggestion from CC. I was told "it's the best!" but she frequently uses that expression to describe anything remotely better. I think that her memory of Mexican food in college is very different from her experience years later. It was definitely the type of cheap food that fills you up that college students crave, but when you're late 20's, not so much.

    (2)
  • Jerald S.

Honestly the best place to get your burrito fix in the whole riverside area. I find this place to be a little bit less salty than other places. Their cali burrito is definitely what I order every time I'm there if its not that its the carne asada fries. I really do like this place its the closest i can get to mexican food from san diego haha

    (4)
  • Ryan B.

If you're nowhere near San Diego and you're craving carne asada fries or a california burrito ...look no further. Enough said.

    (5)
  • Linda V.

this place is wayyyy better than santanas. especially since they made their hours later---closing at 3am. 10x better! i love coming here and getting their carne asada fries or burritos. its soo good and my favorite mexican eatery. It is a bit expensive, but they give you HUGE portions. If you are a UCR student, you get a small discount, so thats also another plus. Also, i love love their green sauce! it taste so good on anything, you just cant go wrong.

    (5)
  • Myra C.

trekking back from vegas, the boys decide to detour here to grab a bite. apparently its the stuff of legend to all the UCR/SD kids. i was a skeptic at first to see if the carnitas burrito and the carne fries were really worth it...they were. they definitely don't skimp out on ingredients here. its my guilty pleasure next time i'm craving.

    (4)
  • David L.

The dish to try here is the carne asada fries. A takeout clamshell box loaded to the top with fries, steak, cheese, and other fixins. The place is shady, so park your car in front where you can see it.

    (4)
  • Ray T.

I came here just a couple nights ago for the first time and wow, it has won me over. My friends from UCR took me here when I visited last time. Everyone ordered carne asada fries while I got the fish tacos... I felt kind of left out. I enjoyed my fish tacos but I did try some of a friend's carne asada fries and they were soooooo gooooood!! My fish tacos deserve a 3.5 stars and the fires deserve 5. The ambiance... or lack there of and it wasn't very clean drops a star for me. Overall a good hole in the wall place for mexican food (seriously, just get the carne asada fries if you haven't already) that should be enjoyed with a couple of buddies.

    (4)
  • Dave W.

Positives: Huge burritos, first place I ever had asada fries, great verde sauce, tasty pico de gallo, best California burrito I have ever had. Negatives: dirty there are flys everywhere, bums and crackheads asking for change, pretty sketchy place for most of the UCR kids. Whenever I am heading to the river on the 91E, I always make it a point to stop here before hitting the 60E. I relive my college days, through their food.

    (3)
  • Tony L.

the place to go for burritos in riverside. carne asada fries there are the bomb. and the carne asada burrito is bomb too. everything there is so damn good. one thing i dont like about the place is that when i eat outside, so many bums ask me for change or a cigarette...but then again..its riverside.

This place is pretty good! It's authentic, it's close to campus, and it's open late. That's three for three! To be honest, I've only been here a couple of times, but I'm glad I got the chance to try it out. But I figure for most of the kids at UCR, this place is a staple.

    (4)
  • Cat Y.

One thing I like about this place is that you get a lot of food with the cheap price that you pay. I think I can honestly say that whenever I buy from their combo menu, I have had to take my food to go in a doggie bag. The burritos are stuffed and their taco is great. Everything is made when order so it does take a little bit of time before the food gets to you, but it is still worth the wait. They have an awesome salsa bar for their food.

    (4)
  • Melanie T.

hands down best california burrito & carne asada fries ever..... forget about santana's. they just don't compare.

    (5)
  • diana t.

if you want to die a delicious death, you have to eat their beef tacos. they're stuffed with meat and lettuce and cheese. the ratio is like 2/3 meat, and 1/3 cheese and lettuce. they're $2.50 each but they're worth it. i can only eat one before i'm stuffed. it's the good shredded beef too, none of that ground beef crap. and when you bite into it, grease drips out of it. yes, that's how disgustingly greasy their tacos are, but they are oh so delicious. i also had their chorizo quesadilla. okay, if you thought that the tacos were greasy, you should try this. i couldnt finish my meal after eating the taco so i took my food to go. i put it in a sandwich bag with a zip top when i got home and put it in the fridge. when i picked it up to eat later, the grease had soaked through the sandwich bag, through the wax paper, and through the cardboard carton. yes... it was artery clogging, heart stopping heaven. i'll admit, their food is so greasy that everytime i go, my stomach can't handle it. but it's damn good. the people there are hella shady there. idk i think that they get sick of catering to college kids. but still, if you hate your job, dont take it out on the kids. its okay, jesus still loves you. oh and its another one of those restaurants where you can get hepatitis from touching the door handles. they have an A on their window though... O_o

  • Jeff H.

I have to agree with the other reviewers this place is good. I got the California Burrito and my son got a quesadilla. The carne asada was well seasoned and there were chunks of potatoes NOT fries in the burrito(I hate fries in a burrito). It was prepared quick and was nice and hot. I shall return to Jilbertos to try their other fair.

    (4)
  • Sandeep X.

The Pollo Fries (carne asada fries with grilled chicken) are really good here, it was still filling and tasty. Although its not open as late as Santana's (probably not a place you'd wanna be that late anyhow) it is definitely better in terms of food quality. Prices are a bit high, but for the amount of food you get it is very much worth it (carne asada fries are a prime example of this). I heard the burritos are pretty good too, but trying out the carne asada fries should be a 1st priority

    (5)
  • D M.

los jilbertos never fails me...their tacos are yummm, pico de gallo is always plentiful and fresh...and can never go wrong with their carne asada fries!!! if i don't want something as heavy i go with the carne asada nachos...and always enough to share between two...also, their chimichanga's the best!

the ebst mexican place in Riverside hands down.

    (5)
  • David C.

best carne asada burrito in the riverside area. the carne asada fries? stupendous! but, you probably should only get it like once a month at most considering its probably two days' worth of your caloric intake.

  • Cinder D.

Pro: authentic Mexican food and they cook everything well, discount for UCR students, parking easy, quick on orders, comfy environment, free salsa and carrots Cons: refill drinks 0.81, difficult to find when driving by (look for red sign!), menu is complex and many items, charge 0.50 on debit if less than $20

    (5)
  • Lawrence M.

Though this restaurant is not the nicest or cleanest looking place, the food is amazing. The California Burrito is the best frickin burrito I've ever had!!! I've been living in Riverside for half a year, and eating here was literally the first that I brought my new wife to do with me when she moved here a month ago. I've grown to love it that much.

    (5)
  • Tien T.

Food portions are super big. We didn't know so we ordered one portion each person and we had left over to eat for the next day. More like a Togo place but there are tables to sit inside too. Good place to pick up some food for dinner on the way home

    (5)
  • Keyva C.

I really enjoy there food. However I came here the day before an important final. I've been vegetarian for some time now and I stressed to the girl at the counter taking my order that I was vegetarian. When I got back to my place what was in my burrito MEAT. I took the burrito back and when I was trying to explain that I was dissatisfied and that I would like them to add sour cream as an accommodation because the previous burrito was not only wrong but contained MEAT which is going to upset my stomach it was overlooked and I felt I was not a valued customer. I have worked in the restaurant industry for over five years and have never had an issue like this occur. I am upset and will probably not be eating here again any time soon as well as telling vegetarians to be aware that this restaurant does not take are eating style serious.

Old college go to spot for carne asada fries. The carne asada fries are the best in town. Some people seem to like Santanas but i personally think its because theyre open 24 hours and theyre usually drunk haha. Anyway made a stop here recently when i made a trip back to riverside. Still as good as ever!

    (4)
  • Andrew D.

Carne asada burrito! This thing is huge, and loaded with beef & guacamole. I'd say it's probably enough food for two people, and is only about $9 bucks. The best part is that it tastes great! They've got great pico and salsa as well! *****

    (5)
  • Amy N.

Sounds harsh, but this place isn't as good as it's hyped up to be. I'm from San Diego so I judge Mexican food based on that. And this place is decent, better than other places in Riverside. The only reason I would come here is for the fish burrito. It's good and I recommend it. If you have munchies or drunchies, you'll be satisfied, but I wouldn't usually come here otherwise.

    (3)
  • Aaron G.

I had the tacos the rolled tacos and tostada. I only ate the rolled tacos and even those were a joke. I can't complain about the meat because it was good and had a good flavor but they use such cheap shells the tostada was packed with lettuce that it completely fell apart. one bite of the taco and it fell to pierces I didn't even get to enjoy it. the rolled tacos were ok but one bite of those and I pulled out all the meat with one bite. I won't be coming back.

  • Mimi T.

BEWARE!!!! IF I COULD GIVE NO STARS I WOULD!!! This place is disgusting!!! I got the carne asada plate that came with beans and rice. After halfway eating into my carne asada burrito I took a bite out of my rice and felt something hard. I took it out of my mouth and found what was a HUMAN FINGER NAIL! Literally like someone was cutting their fingernail while they were cooking the rice or something! I called and told them about it and also advised that they make a new batch of rice but the girl kept on saying well we don't know if the nail really came from the rice. REALLY?! EVERYONE OF MY CO WORKERS SAW ME TAKE THAT NAIL OUT OF MY MOUTH!!!! I WOULD SUGGEST NOT EATING HERE FOR SANITARY PURPOSES! Called the owner Samuel to complain and all he can say is well all my workers wear gloves....ended up getting a refund with the response of the girl saying "shit happens". The rating on this place shouldn't even be 4 stars, it should be more like 1! Carne asada meat came out way too salty and on too of that order was wrong too! Will definitely not come here again!!!

  • Ry C.

Good but not great. I've had a wide range of Mexican food, being from San Diego, and this place didn't really impress me. I've visited a few times. Carnitas tacos were okay, Carne assda fries were good, California burrito was honestly more than gross. I could taste the year's worth of grease from whatever they use to cook the meat on and the oil and fat stayed in my mouth even after I brushed my teeth. I also think I lost 5 years off my life. I'll eat this when I'm here in Riverside with a craving but I'd rather go back to SD for more enjoyable Mexican food.

Let me start by saying that I am 40 years old. As such, I can afford and look forward to good food! This place is not it. They're about a notch bellow Taco Bell. After the Xmas light festivities at the Mission Inn we looked for a place close by where we could get good Tacos. Quickly scanned through the Yelp reviews and agreed on this place. The food is cheap and you get what you pay for. The salsa is simply puréed water, tomatoes, and chile. Heavy on the water. No fresh garlic, onion, cilantro, etc. No additional ingredients to give it the layering and depth of flavor in every basic but good salsa. My carne asada nachos had the stingiest sprinkle of Monterey Jack cheese. The guacamole was not fresh. It was the commercially made & prepackaged stuff. After eating here I wondered how fellow Yelpers could be so off. Went back & carefully read thru reviews. This is a place for poor, starving, drunk, high, and really young college kids. I'm not passing judgement. We've all been there. But in a few years you'll look back and wonder how you ever ate such crap!

There is a big debate amongst the UCR community, and allow me to settle it here and now... Los Jilbertos (is greater than) Santanas There. I said it. The downside is that Los Jilbertos isn't 24 hours, but their food is far superior. Their carne asada fries are undeniable the best in down; freaking AMAZING. I tried their Nak burrito, and don't get me wrong it's pretty good, but I prefer their California burrito (which is a slightly simpler Nak). Their salsas are always fresh and have a good kick, the workers speak good English (yay!) and are always very patient and helpful. I love their rolled tacos, too. Lots of delicious flavor and zest. Their breakfast burritos are pretty bomb, too. My boyfriend loves their bean and cheese burritos, enchilada style, and orders at least one every time. All in all, this place kicks butt, and you're crazy to not love it.

Carne asada fries have changed my life. So, I hear the raves about this place and I really cannot believe that carne asada fries are that great. We pull up to Los Jilbertos on University Avenue in Riverside and the place/location are not all that great. However, aside from the ambiance, I inhaled a 1/2 order of carne asada fries in about 5 minutes. They also have an awesome salsa bar and the green salsa tasted the best on the fries. This is THE place to get carne asada fries - do not go elsewhere.

Food: The large Al Pastor taco with everything, the Super Nachos, and horchata are my favorites. Service:Good Verdict:The first Jilbertos I tried and I fell in love! Mexican fast food perfection and cheap.

Being new to Riverside, my boyfriend and I have been waiting to try the local mexican restaurants. We have high standards for Mexican food and are always wary when trying a new place. Last night we picked up an order of carne asada fries and carne asada nachos. Both were on point, especially the nachos. No critiques or complaints at all. The salsa rojo was the perfect amount of spice with a little kick. We will definitely be returning soon to explore more of their menu. DELICIOSO!

After being scarred for life at Santana's across the street, this place pretty much became my spot for early late-night snacking (granted it does close a little earlier than I want, but it does open later than most other Mexican places). I most frequently pick up a half-order of carne asada fries. This place is similar to most joints in LA where they offer half-orders and full-orders. The price they list ($8.50) is for the full order, but you can also opt for a "half" order, which is $5.99, A half-order is roughly the size of a normal large takeout box, which is enough fries and meat for me, but a regular full order is an extra large takeout box, which is a little more than I can handle. It's a tiny bit more expensive than what I was used to in the surrounding LA area where cheap taco-shop carne asada fries are maybe a dollar cheaper, but eh, not complaining. Food here is still reasonably inexpensive (4 tacos for $5) and they don't skimp on the meat when they fill your orders. Everyone loves the NAK burrito, but I found it to be a little greasier than I like. I still prefer the california burrito over the NAK burrito. My roommate loves the pickled carrots here. Student discount for 10% off when you show your ID card. Or at least this used to be the case, but they recently took the sign off the window, so I'm not that sure anymore. The people who work here are very nice. I always see this one girl at the cash register, and she's always super cheerful and kind to everyone. This place doesn't serve the best Mexican food I've ever tasted, but it definitely doesn't make the worst. I'll keep coming back for cheap, pre-midnight munchies or when I'm not sure what to eat.

My friend told me about this place, and I'm glad she did. She told me if I had one day in Riverside, I was to come here. When going in, it was pretty empty. (I don't know if people know about it- it's kinda quiet). I ordered the NAK burrito, which had fries, guacamole, cheese, meat, and rice in there. It was really good. They did not cheap out on the guacamole, and there was guacamole in every bite. The cheese was melted in the burrito and the meat was really tender. It reminds me of Albatros down in Lake Forest (near Irvine). The server was really nice as well. The bad thing is, that there is a minimum charge for credit card ($11) and the ventilation is pretty bad (no a/c), along with no restrooms inside, but other than that, I will come back next time I'm in Riverside!

The Carne Asada Fries here are bomb! The fries come out crispy, the meat is cooked well, they have a good salsa selection and it comes in a huge portion. The restaurant is unfortunately a bit small and they only accept cash if your orders under $20.

Best Real Mexican food spot. Not too pricey for amount of food, everything on the menus good . UCR discount! Open late too . Niceeeeee

Typical Mexican food shop to be honest. I saw these reviews and expected some magical carne asada fries or something, but they were the same as any other place and actually smaller than most places. The hot sauce got me sick by the way.

Los Jilberto's has gloriously yummy, cheap, and filling food! You cannot go wrong with any of their burritos (I especially like the fish, shrimp, al pastor, machaca, and carne asada burritos). My sister loves the chimichangas (both beef and pork) here, though they're a bit too rich for me. Everyone raves about their carne asada fries, but I actually prefer their carne asada nachos, just because the crispiness of the nachos holds up better than the fries. For all the onion lovers, add some pico de gallo to the carne asada nachos/fries since they don't come with onions.Try the chipotle (orange-reddish salsa) in the back of the salsa bar--it is seriously delicious! Their carne asada quesadilla are also really good here.

SO GOOD. I was visiting my boyfriend in Riverside over spring break and he took me here. Made him take me twice during my 4 day visit, and now that I'm back in NorCal, I find myself craving Jilbertos SO BAD. Their Nak burrito is so bomb, and their carne asada nachos, UGH, SO DELICOUS. They have a salsa bar, so you can add more pico de gallo stuff, which I find really nice. The food comes out pretty fast, and the workers are really fun. It's a super chill atmosphere, so if you're in the area and looking for some cheap and delicious mexican food, you have to check them out. I can't wait until the next time I go back to Riverside, mmmm.

Ambiance: quaint, clean, loud (TV), friendly staff Food: - The chilaquiles are a sure-bet. Large portion. Good spice level. Fresh ingredients (peppers, onion, chips, sour creme, and ranchero cheese). Well-prepared cooked-to-order eggs. And all for good price (my girlfriend and I split it and we are both stuffed). - The tortilla is big and delicious; warmed on the grill to perfection - The rice is fluffy and has good flavor, though a little too moist - The beans are so-so; taste a little cheap - Salsa bar features a few very fresh and very tasty options Overall: - I recommend the chilaquiles from Los Jilberto's; a sure cure to your previous late night debauchery. Be warned though: they cook them fresh, so you are likely going to wait 10-15 minutes for them. Rest assured: they will be worth the wait.

I got asada fries, and they were pretty good and very crispy, but I wanted more meat! The asada was cut up too small, so it was awkward to pick up with both a fork or by hand. The salsa bar was excellent and well stocked--a true bounty--so it was a beautiful sight. The beans weren't too fantastic, though. Also, like $2.50 for a soda? And no refills? That's so ridiculous to me... It was okay, but the prices were a bit too high for what it is.

Solid restaurant, I always go for the California with skinny fries. If you like carne asada, cheese, potatoes, grilled onions with a side of spicy salsa then you'll love the California Burrito. Prices are very reasonable as well

Love this place, they have the best Carne Asada fries in the area. They are open decently late for students who want to grab a late night meal and the staff is always super friendly. Make sure you grab some of their pico de gallo and the pickled carrots always fresh and flavorful. My second favorite from this place has to be the NAK burrito. Also if you are a UCR student they give a discount if you show them your student id.

This place is excellent! The carne asada fries are always great: fries, meat, cheese, guac, sour cream. Burritos: always great, get the monster if you are really hungry. Taquitos: always crispy. Enchiladas: love the sauce. Carrots and salsa: always fresh at the counter, can't get enough! There is a credit card minimum purchase, I have never found this to be a problem...I just tack on another order of something. They have lots to choose from on the menu, and you really can't go wrong. Great food, prompt service, clean, cheap, and open late.

I've been wanting to come here for the longest time! I came here with my friend who comes here at least once a week. Firstly, the decor and ambiance is traditional, with about ten tables or so. I found them kinda cramped when we went, but I guess that's what comes in a hole in the wall place (don't worry I'm no against hole in the wall places, if anything I am all for them) I got the carne asada fries, which everyone raves about, and the horchata! It was such a big portion, but definitely a great taste! (believe it or not, I was still full the next morning!) The meat was well cooked and the fries were not soggy or anything. Also, the salsa selection they had was great! - a variety of spice levels. Also, the horchata was amazing! It was one of the best I have had in a while! Overall, okay atmosphere, good service, and good food! I'll probably be back in the future! Oh and just a note, they only accept debit card and cash!

Like most of their reviews on here, its for their Carne Asada Fries. One of the reasons to come here is to get their asada fries. Who doesn't love a big portion of fries topped with carne asada, cheese, quac, and sour cream. Personally I love to add some of their pico de gallo they have at their salsa bar. Other than that I haven't tried much else. I'm usually there once every two weeks with my roommates and its always asada fries. On one occasion I decided to try their Nak burrito, pretty decent. Its a cali burrito but with the addition of beans and quac to the mix. Nothing special but I'd rather go somewhere else for a burrito. Overall its always a good experience here and the food comes out pretty fast if you are in a rush.

They have the best carne Asada fries. I come here to get my fries fix whenever I'm in riverside. There rolled tacos are really good as well.

  • William H.

This place is great except it can be a little pricey! The tacos are super delicious and with the salsa bar selection you can't go wrong. I tried the burritos and tacos and would recommend the lengua and cabeza tacos but you can never go wrong with good ol' carne Asada tacos! I only wish the had some sort of tacos Tuesday this place would be packed if they did! Overall a great place and the food is delicious!

I got the rolled up taquitos and I don't even know what type of meat was in them, now mind you, I'm hispanic so I know my food pretty well. I didn't like them at all. The beans were okay. The rice was hard and had no flavor. The guacamole was so puréed, it was more like avocado smoothie and again, those taquitos were just gross. I would only return for the Jamaica drink (hibiscus) it's the best in town... They did one thing right

I love their carne asada fries!! It is a must have! You cannot miss this if you live in this area or go to college here. Their burrito are nice, portion are very generous. But the Carne Asada fries is at a different level. You gotta have some does not matter if you live mexican food or not!!

  • Nhi N.

I got the carne asada super nachos today with my boyfriend for lunch since I was craving it, and it turned out to be really yummy! I've been here a couple times for carne asada fries and their burritos, but I recommend the super nachos. I thought their super nachos tasted really good and it's big enough for two people. The only bad thing about Jilberto's that their green sauce is not good.

    (4)
  • Alex S.

The beef chimichanga definitely blew my mind (and probably my arteries too). Packed with beef and refried beans and if you get the daily special, it comes with a side of mexican rice, more beans and lettuce to ease your guilt.

Wow, the pollo asado fries here are amazing. Unlike Santana's, who- for some strange reason likes to drench their fries in oil- you get crispy, straight-out-of-the-fryer fries with their delicious, hot crispness to compliment the fresh guacamole, sour cream and pollo asado. The meat was very tender and flavorful. I also tend to judge Mexican food establishments by their horchata quality, much like the way I judge tea places by their green tea- and I would say the horchata is a perfect 10. You can taste the milk - and they strike the perfect balance between the rice, milk and cinnamon flavors. Santana's is rather watery and not as light and delectable. I highly recommend you try the pollo asado fries! I'll be back to try their tacos! Other details: - Despite its outer appearance (sort-of hole-in-the-wall), I was surprised how it decorated with a rustic charm indoors. The table and seats are clean and you can watch Univision on the opposite wall. -No AC, but the fans overhead keep you cool if you go at night. - A variety of customers from college students to locals frequent this place! I guess that serves as a testament to the fast service and excellent food!

I go here way too often and never go on Yelp to review it. Yes, it's good as advertised, and it's a shame not too many people know this gem of a place called Los Jilberto's. My friends and I call it JB's, but holy cow, it doesn't matter what you call it, it's so bomb. My favorites here are the NAK burrito, KCCC burrito, and those carne asada fries are too legit! Plus the horchata is excellent quality. The workers are really nice, and if you're a student, show your ID, they'll give you a discount. They don't have waiters in the traditional sense where they'll bring your tray out. Hold onto your receipt, because your order number is on there. This is without a question of the best Mexican places I've ever been to, so hurry down here!

CARNE ASADA FRIES. That is all I need to say. Their fries here are perfect. Not soggy like the ones at Santanas. The fries are crispy and amazing. There is so much carne asada piled on top and with their salsa bar there are unlimited possibilities.

    (5)
  • Tram D.

Ehhhh, The restaurant is not well ventilated at all. It's so effin hot in Riverside, they need to turn on their AC or something. lol The carne asada fries weren't good at all. My friend and I shared one, and we agreed, it was no bueno. It was the only thing I tried, and since that's what their known for, I didn't even bother giving it another try. The carne asada fries lacked flavor, and the ratio of carne asada to fries were disproportionate (too much fries and not enough salsa and carne asada).

Ah... so much love for Riverside aka Riverlame or Riverpoop. If you're from here, you'll know why we call it that. Well anyways, Los Jilbertos is conveniently located right next to my parent's office and UCR/UV. We came here a couple times to get Cali burritos but the real star is... CARNE ASADE FRIES! Golden crisp fries, topped with creamy guacamole, sour cream and fresh meat, sprinkled with cheese. Delicious goodness all for around 7 dollars (10% off with Student Discount!) LARGE PORTION too! I recommend getting some red sauce in a cup and dipping it in that. Gotta have something spicy :) When I crave carne asada fries at UCLA, I try to come home on the weekends for this baby. I don't really like Riverside but dear gawd, I love these fries :)

I love Mexican food. I love beans. I love carne asada. Now, I lived in San Diego for a year and ate authentic Mexican food 5x a week. It was fantastic. I gained 17 pounds, but I was a happy HAPPY chubby girl. Well, I moved back to Orange County. Mexican food in Orange County isn't fantastic. There are some spots that aren't bad at all, aka el farolito, but they are not the best. Luckily, I go to school at UCR. Yeah yeah, I drive 33 miles 3 times a week to go to school, I know it SUCKS. The plus side is, there are some decent Mexican joints in IE. Mr. Taco? love that place. I usually go pick up some food after school. WELL, after locking myself up in the library for 10 hours last week studying for finals, I was literally about to pass out from hunger. It was 11 pm and I needed a damn burrito. Los Jibertos, is right down the street from school, and I had heard great things, so it was the obvious choice. Checked yelp, and it looked like their carne asada was good, so I got a carne asada burrito. It was originally just carne asada, pico de gallo, and guac, but I was starving and i say fuck it, let's add some beans and rice to it for $1.20 so I can get even more fat! Waited 10 minutes and I was given my burrito. It was the size of a small dog. My dog to be exact. I have a 2 pound teacup yorkie and my burrito was equivalent in size. I have never met a burrito that I couldn't devour (this was no exception) but this burrito definitely put in a fight. It was delicious and I enjoyed every bite.... except maybe the last few where I thought I was going to explode. 3 days later, after failing the final that I spent 10 hours studying for (-__-) i decided that I needed mass amounts of Mexican food to help drown my sorrows. To Los Jibertos I went! Since everyone raves about the carne asada fries here, I decided to try them. I've never been a big fan of them, but I figured they couldn't be terrible. Normally, with carne asada fries, the fries get super soggy. That was not the case here. They were crisp and delish. It was literally a heart attack on a plate, but, once again, I loved every bite. LONG STORY SHORT. GO HERE. the food is 1. great 2. HUGE 3. cheap. Okay, I'm done procrastinating, I have another final to study for. Trust me, after I take it, I'll be either celebrating or crying at Los Jibertos.

Pretty lowkey location with lots of students from UCR. My friend and I went around late afternoon and had the carne asada fries. Location itself can be hard to miss so keep an eye out! Parking is ample with private lot. There are lots of tables inside to eat. The restaurant itself is clean and the staff are pretty friendly. Tip: Add salsa to the carne asada fries (: NOM!

I heard about this place from the Santanas reviews so I decided to check it out. When I got there the place seemed beat down and dirty. Their salsas and sauces tasted fresh. And the california burrito I ordered met my belly's requirements :] They also ask you if you want to use fries or potatoes. Huge burrito, so big 2 people could've shared it. I left full and happy Thank you Jilbertos, I will def recommend you to friends

BEST CARNE ASADA FRIES NEAR UCR. Since graduation I have been craving their carne asada fries and all the places near me do not compare! I just love how their fries aren't soggy and are crispy like the ones you get at McDonalds. Such a major ++. And if you show them your student ID card you get a discount. It's not a huge one or another but a discount is a discount! Especially when you're on that college student budget. Call in your order to avoid the line is always a good idea too.

I am extremely disappointed, I've been coming to this Mexican eatery for years because they are much better in quality than their counter-parts; however, I just got food poisoning from them last night. Prior to this review I highly recommended this place to everyone and rated them undoubtedly as a 5 star eatery; however, after my case of food poisoning I cannot set foot inside this store again. I am extremely disappointed.

As a ucr alumni, second to my degree, the carne asada fries were the other best thing I learned at ucr. 5 years at ucr and 4 of then were blessed with going to jilbertos. Many memories made here: one straight week of carne asada fries for lunch till I couldn't stand it and I went the following week, celebrating the end of finals week with carne asada fries, graduating and bringing my family here instead of a fancy restaurant, having a reunion with my close friend from undergrad and enjoying a double feature of the legendary fries and a NAK burrito. Long story short, this is my spot. If you haven't figured it out, the carne asada fries are the best thing on the menu here The only reason they don't get a 5 star is because over the past few years, I feel like the prices have gone very high but the food you get isn't worth the price. A full order used to be $7 and then you get 10% off with a ucr discount, and that gets you a really full plate, enough to fill you up for dinner and left over for breakfast cuz you missed the dining hall on campus. Now, a full order runs you about 9-10 dollars and the amount of food has reduced. $9 gets you what is equivalent to a half order, which I think is unfair. Prices went up and food went down. That's just me, I've been going here for years and I went stop but I hope they do read this and address that. Love this place. If you go to ucr and have never been, you shouldn't get your degree until you've feasted on this jewel. Ps, Santana used to be the spot, now no one knows about Santana because everyone knows about jilbertos :)

This place is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. They have the best carne asada fries, and the Nak burrito is great too. Every once in a while ill branch out and get something else, and it never disappoints. Fantastic little hidden gem!

Okay, I miss this place too. This is my absolute favorite favorite FAVORITE Mexican place. I used to live fairly close and would just nag my roommates to get Mexican food with me. Of course, who can refuse?! Especially when it's Jilbertos! It's extremely convenient and there is always parking and space for you to sit inside and out! Just be careful of the people passing by at night... The food, seriously, so delicious. Their burritos and carne asada fries are by far my favorite. I believe I've had the nachos too and blown away by it! I've had their carne asada burrito, chicken burrito, al pastor burrito, and fries and nachos and horchata and .... never disappointed. And their beans and rice!! Yum! Yes, I frequented here quite often. Who wouldn't if you lived so close?!They also have a hot sauce bar and my roommate and I would just load up on everything. Honestly, Jilbertos beats Santana's down the street (SOOO greasy!!) and the place across the street (I forgot the name). The service is also great. I usually take a while to order and ask the cashier for help. They're more than happy to suggest something! I definitely need to come back and order a good ol' carne asada burrito. I'm thoroughly upset that there isn't a place like Jilbertos near where I live right now!

Hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant. Everything here is always so delicious and savory. When I was living in Riverside a meal was consumed here once a week. I still compare all Mexican food I eat to this restaurant. The best thing about this place? Their verde salsa - it's to die for. I would pay good money to have that packaged and shipped to me. Oh Los Jilberto's how I miss you dearly!

I hardly come to Rside.... But when I do, I eat carne asada fries. I helped my sister move out of riverside so we had to make our last meal special. What a memorable way to end her college years by ordering an order of carne asada fries and a large horchata to go and enjoy on her floor in her empty air conditioned apartment.

I would go again but just not too soon. Pros: Carne asada fries is what I came for and was just as I expected. In other words standard fries, carne asada that was just normal (i.e. not bad but not great either). Cons: Peppers aren't roasted. Salsas aren't that appealing.

We are just visiting the area and found this place because of yelp. We ate here twice and it was very good both times. We had the carne asada burrito and carne asada fries and the chicken quesadilla. All items were excellent! And huge portions! The fries were enough for four people and the quesadilla was enough for two people. The place seemed clean and the girl behind the counter was friendly and got all of our special requests correct. The decor is old and outdated, but I didn't mind since the food was so good. It's a small place, so just beware if you're in a big group. I would definitely go there again!

Soooooooooooooo good. A really good place for some good Mexican food! This is especially a great place to eat late night since they stay open pretty late. I dunno why, but for me the craving for Mexican food is amplified when i'm hungry and its late night (is it just me?) Hell i'll even get a craving for some good Mexican food like this after a few beers....but whatever the reason, Los Jilbertos is where i'll be late night if i'm in the area and one of those cravings comes up on me. The food is just really good here! I personally love the veggie burrito. It's my personal favorite, the bean cheese and rice burrito is also good too with some sour cream....but still doesn't beat the veggie burrito here if you're not a meat eater. The burrito was pretty large for the price and it definitely filled me up. Bring cash if you can though - they don't take credit cards, and there's a charge for using debit.

I'm not in Riverside often, but when I am, I HAVE to stop by Los Jilbertos. In my opinion, the burritos here outshine any I've had in OC so far. I always forget how delicious they are until I go back and I fall in love all over again. It isn't a fancy place by any means, but the service is good and they always get my order right. The salsa isn't the best I've ever had, but the burritos themselves make up for it. Ladies, this is one place where you won't mind throwing a weeks worth of cardio out the window in one sitting.

  • Melissa F.

I've had carne asada fries at many places since I've lived in So Cal and I would have to say Los Jilbertos has the best ones I've ever tasted. With each bite you get crispy fries and tasty carne asada, guacamole, and other goodies. It stays good until you eat it all up! The only downside is that they have raised the price of their full size portion but with a UCR discount you can get a discount. If you're in the Riverside area and want some good hearty carne asada fries, hit this place up!

  • Mylinh H.

Hands down the best carne asada fries I've ever had. The fries were thin and crispy. Flavorful beef. Horchata was good too. Definitely returning when exams come around and I want procrastinate by eating.

This place is really really good. I always love getting their carne asada fries, nak burrito and also super nachos! They never seize to fail me whenever I have a craving for this place. The workers are nice and they are pretty fast when it comes to their orders. Only thing is that it gets SUPERR hot in there during the summer and with Riverside being especially hot, it's not a good feeling. But other than that it's okay because you can just take your food to go and eat it somewhere else. They also do orders over the phone so when you get to the eatery you can just pay and pick up your food without having to wait for it.

You want authentic Mexican that's dirt cheap and huge portions? Then this is your place. Fast service and great tasting. You won't be disappointed.

The carne asada fries and california burritos are what I come here for. Can never go wrong with either! They also have a 10% discount for UCR students with ID. The place is usually pretty clean and the wait is decent.

I really don't get the hype about this place. I suppose if you just want big portions for cheap, I get it. The carne asada is pretty bland and in most bites you'll get a rubbery chunk of fat. I've had their carne asada burritos and carne asada nachos and I'm not that impressed. For bean & cheese burritos, they're not bad and will fill you up. However, carne asada is the litmus test for Mexican restaurants and Los Jilibertos misses the mark. If you go to UCR and are looking for cheap "Mexican" food this place is ok.

Food: Al Pastor taco and some kind of burrito enchilada style. Price: $8 - $9 Thoughts: The Al Pastor taco was actually pretty excellent. It had a lot of good meat and was large and filling. If only I had stopped at that. This place loses two stars from me because of the burrito. I love burritos and will normally have no problem eating any but I just really hate this style of burrito, smelled like a whole wheat tortilla, the burrito was stuffed with shredded beef which is a southern Californian style. This kind of burrito is a tragedy of LA culture. All this being said I would have rated this place better based on the taco if only it hadn't taken so damn long to get my food. Cleanliness: Place seemed fairly clean so there are no marks down from this.

Love the carne fries, however the carne burrito was not what I expected, it was carne and guacamole, nothing else. I was expecting sour cream, rice etc.But overall good.

I love this place! I always get the California burrito with potatoes. It's ginormous!! It's enough for lunch and dinner! Cheap too! Love the salsa bar.. Just too delicious!

  • Elizabeth P.

Tried their carne asada fries (which was amazing) and their California burrito. Large portions, good price, amazing flavors. Especially loved the fries! Would give 5 stars for the food but docking a star because the actual restaurant can use an upgrade (specifically their bathroom) -- no this is not being HM. It's just creepy there

  • Alex M.

Amazing Breakfast Burritos and great prices too. Not to mention the service was out standing.

    (5)
  • Janice A.

The carne asada fries are just as delicious as everyone says. Definitely my favorite among other places like Jilberto's. I still have to try other items, but if they are anywhere as good as the carne asada fries, there's no way you can go wrong.

    (5)
  • Christine N.

Okay don't even go to Santana's, just come over to Los Jilbertos! Their carne asada fries are soo good and the portions are more than enough to share with a friend. You even get a student discount if you show them your ID- uhhh awesome! They don't open late at night so make sure you come for dinner before they close. So no late night munchies run to this place :( Try their burritos too, they're huge! I think it's called the NAK, it comes with refried beans in it which it could do without but it's still yummy. Unlimited salsa bar and lots of outdoor seating. You gotta give this place a try.

Sorry, it just didn't cut it. When we went, the card machine was down or something so it was cash only. Not exactly their fault, but maybe invest in new equipment so you don't inconvenience your customers...just saying. We still wanted burritos, so we walked to the BofA atm to get cash. While waiting for our burritos, I noticed the truly hole-in-the-wall status of the dining room. Dirty floors and dilapidated tables, flies, the works. I can handle hole-in-the-wall if the food is worth it....unfortunately this food was not. The burrito was something anybody could easily make at home. Cold, shredded iceburg lettuce, unmelted cheese, stale tortilla. If you're a poor drunk college kid (or a poor, pregaming college kid because they're not open that late), then I can maybe see the appeal of Los Jilbertos. Everyone else, go ahead and skip this one.

  • Mark D.

The food is good, but they never get the orders right. I order extra cheese, I get no cheese. Order extra extra cheese, they bill me for double cheese then add standard amount of cheese. Order no guacamole, I get extra guacamole. If you don't have to change anything on the order, you might be ok.

This is the spot for sure.....our company likes to order the Monster burrito...it's off the hook....really recommend this place.....arriba arriba!!

  • Inah O.

There are a million reviews on the carne asada fries.... so obviously I had to get them and yes they ARE pretty dang amazing. I also tried the Al Pastor Burrito, which was my first time trying Al Pastor, and I have to say it was pretty tasty. I love all the carrots and jalapenos available. I am not Mexican, so I cannot say whether the food here is "authentic", but I think it's pretty good. One review says they are a notch below Taco Bell... which I would NOT agree with at all.... The price is cheap, so try it out and see for yourselves!

  • Kathy V.

Hands down the best carne asada fries evvvvvvvvvvver!!!!!!!!!!!! The fries come out perfectly crispy each time, they don't short you on the carne asada, just the right amount of cheese and guacamole and best of all no onions or cilantro!! (which adds an extra star in my book!) :) The toppings bar is always full and they don't mind if you keep coming back for more condiments. Their horchata is pretty good too. You can order in half orders of full orders. The only downside about this place is it isn't open 24 hours and it feels kinda dirty when you walk in, but hey you can always get your food to-go! NOTE: They give you 10% student discount.

    (5)
  • Melissa M.

Seemed like typical Mexican food with only one vegetarian option, the veggie burrito, which was overly salty from the refried beans. It was absurdly huge though and I couldn't even finish a third of it. My meat eating friends thought it was good bit not great too.

    (3)
  • Saad C.

This place is legit. Everything is good, the nak burrito (here, i prefer their pollo over asada) their fish burrito, and arroz frijoles are just amazing here. This place is better than many good Mexican spots out in LA, and definitely the best spot in the IE

    (5)
  • Justin P.

Oh man, this place is awesome. HUGE burritos. I can never finish one in one sitting. The NAK and El Pastor burritos are delicious. I also love their salsa bar. I kinda feel bad because I always just sit there getting every type of salsa. If this place was open 24 hours like Santanas across the street, they would run Santanas right down to the ground.

I found myself at UCR looking to find a quick bite before I attended a dance showcase. Pulled out my handy yelp app off my Blackberry and found Los Jilbertos. 4.5 stars, okay, I'll give it a shot. After browsing quickly through some reviews I decided that the carne asada fries were a must! I got those to share with my friend and a fish taco. They had a salsa bar that I filled up those little plastic cups with and off I went to sit outside to soak up the IE sun. Yeah, it wasn't anything amazing. Just the air in the IE makes me cringe. OC girl for life! Our food came out within minutes. For 6:30 on a Friday night, the place was pretty empty. Not a real good sign but good for me since I was in a rush to make a 7 o'clock show. The food was okay. I wasn't impressed with the carne asada fries. They needed some punch. More flavor. Something. A little more pow! The fries were cooked very well. Had a good crispy outside and tender center but there was just something missing. Seasoning? My fish taco was okay as well. I'm always a little disappointed when I don't get freshly made tortillas. I guess I've been spoiled, but store bought is just not that same. The fish taco had a lot of batter on it and not a whole lot of fish. I was left wanting more. Maybe the appeal of this place is big portions at small prices. I'm just more of a quality than quantity type of girl. But I understand that broke college kids are quite the opposite. They have a huge menu so if I ever do find myself in this neck of the woods, I'll definitely give it another shot. Their chili verde looked good, maybe I'll try that. Next time!

Get your pitchforks and torches ready... After reading all of these reviews on a starving stomach, I'd have to say that I was fairly disappointed. Would also like to add that the place was not tidy. I'm not a neat freak by any means but i had moved around to a couple of tables and they were all covered in dry salsas. Carne Asada Fries: Bland in my opinion. Maybe because I thought there was not enough cheese... Of course I could have ordered extra cheese for a buck more but for already charging a whopping $9, it should be buried in cheese (which I wouldn't have liked either but it deserved another hefty handful of cheese because there was barely anything on it. Like some of the other reviewers out there, I feel that they fall short on this item. Yall can crucify me but I'd take albertos over this anyday of the week. Shredded Beef Chimichanga: Not bad but far from good. Shredded beef did have good flavor but this fat looking fried burrito was mostly refried beans. Funny that this had more cheese than the huge portion carne asada fries. Overall, I don't believe that I will come back to this place... So disappointed.... They are more of a 1 star review but I have to give an extra star for the friendly lady at the counter.

    (2)
  • Justin L.

Ewwwwww. Just another albertos fake mexican food. Better luck w/ Dona timos or Ramiro's.

  • Amanda F.

This place is one of the best restaurants I have been too for fast food. The chicken is shredded and everything comes out so good. I used to go all the time before I moved to the other side of Riverside. Pricing is good, food quality is good. All in all, I would recommend it to anyone.

    (5)
  • Nino R.

Decent but they close early-which is literally a buzz kill due to its proximity to UCR. I'd steer clear of the mini taco combo. There just isn't enough flavor there. Stick with the burritos only. They've got 4 different salsas to try as well as pico and pickled carrots. And they've also got a bevy of all sugar sodas at the ready. But if you're a high fructose corn syrup person, you won't be disappointed either. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Bums galore at all times of the day. I'm assuming that's why they close early...

    (3)
  • Lillian Q.

By far the best Mexican place I had. I got both chicken and beef flautas and a cheese quesadillas. The flautas are like extra stuffed tequitos smothered in sauce and guacamole. I will definitely return!

  • Connie V.

I come to Riverside about once a year in the summer and I always have to come here on the first night because it's always hot. The one thing I yearn for at Jilbertos is their Horchata. ohmyoghs it is super good. In fact, it's so good that I always always get the large and wish that they have a Jumbo size option for 49 cents. The carne asada fries is really good here, but I think that's because around the area I live in there aren't that many good ones. But that's one good thing to try if it's your first time here or love fries and beef together. It's a big size, so sharing with a friend or significant other is highly recommended. One thing I got this last time I went was their mini tacos. First of all, they're not really "mini" tacos, but regular-sized tacos. It's just that regular-sized tacos aren't normally big, but tiny in everyone's POV. I personally didn't like it because I'm not used to having all the extra things on top of my taco already and I'm not a big fan of guacamole. I recommend this place for the HORCHATA on a hot day :D

Big portions of good food. So glad we tried it out. Tostada salad, burrito, fish tacos, chicken enchiladas, and beef taco with lots of salsa. All good, cheap and quick.

This is not legit Mexican food. Mexican food does not have yellow cheese. There is clearly no good Mexican food places in Riverside. Sad story!

This place is amazing.everything that I have ordered of the menu is delicious and fired not disappoint. I rest here any chance I get and it never gets old. My only complaint is that it gets hit inside the restaurant sometimes

Try their carnitas wet burrito! You won't be disappointed. Very large portions and delicious Horchata! Just the food to help with finals. Definitely going back soon!

I feel like I'm about to get murdered by a few people by writing this review but I guess just deal with it? After reading some of the reviews raving on and on about how good the carne asada fries are, I decided to go and try it. I also read that the chimichangas were good so I decided to give that a try as well. To be quite honest, the carne asada fries were rather bland. There wasn't very much cheese and the carne asada was bland as well. The chimichangas were excellent (which is why I'm giving it 3 stars). The shreded beef, sour cream, guacamole on top, and using one of their salsas just made it delicious. All-in-all, I've had better Mexican food and the carne asada fries were a big let down.

    (3)

The place is great has beautiful old style furniture great food friendly people recommend anybody that wants good Mexican fast food burritos great I would recommend anybody who likes fast food Mexican or sit down Mexican food very good

  • Mels L.

Better than Santanas, but it's not 24/7 :( Carne Asada fries: So fresh and crispy fries! Meat is delicious along with the guacamole. However the guacamole is more watery, but it's way better than Santanas. Burrito: Ordered carne asada burrito wet (extra), and carnitas burrito. Both are so delicious, but I prefer the carne asada over the carnitas. The carnitas doesn't have a lot of flavor. **Just a burrito and carne asada will feed my friend and I for a meal plus leftovers.

    (3)
  • Valerie C.

This place is cheap and serves large portions. I ordered the cheese enchilada combo. It was pretty good, but it could be better. There was too much cheese in my enchilada. It would have been better if they didn't put so much. I really liked the rice and how the beans are served in a tortilla chip bowl. The only bad thing is no free refills.

    (4)
  • Bonnie Y.

love their tortas... love their carne asada... FRIES!!! not a cheap mexican food place but worth the $$$ (& calories definitely)... i will miss this place so much!!

    (4)
  • Jane K.

Best carne asada fries in all of Riverside l, LA, and yes, even San Diego. Now, the late night partiers of SD would probably disagree since every San Diegan reps their pride of authentic Mexican food but as I know my dirty delicious food from our Southern neighbor. Oh god, in house warm floor tortillas! Salsa bar that gives you those spicy carrots and jalepenos. Plentiful portions of rice&beans. I would say, no other Mexican joint comes close but King Taco makes their own horchata :) MmMmmm... Decadently unhealthy!

    (5)
  • Mayuli L.

This is what Mexican food is supposed to taste like. They have really good homemade tortillas and all my favorite Mexican aguas. I had the huevos rancheros with beans and rice ( which were almost as good as my abuelitas). I work down town and have been to most of the Mexican places in Riverside - this place is amongst the best.

    (4)
  • Steve K.

Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! I only ever choose Santana's over Los Jilbertos purely for the convenience of their drive-thru, but with that said, Los Jilbertos is far more superior. The place itself is relatively clean, convenient parking is provided, and there's also a fairly spacious patio area (I'd stay inside though because...it's Riverside). My foray into carne asada fries consumption was through Alberto's, but their fries can't even compare to those of Los Jilbertos. Much better. Very fairly priced considering the portions and that they serve the best Mexican food in the immediate area. So far I've had their tacos, burritos (California, NAK - pretty much the Cali burrito with beans, Monster - a HUGE wet chimichanga), carne asada fries, taquitos. No complaints about any of them. Also, 10% off for UCR students.

    (5)
  • Jacqueline C.

Dear Carne Asada Fries, Ever since I graduated UCR and left you, it hasn't been the same. There is nothing comparable in the Bay Area and I think about you every time I have drunk munchies. Please consider moving here to be with me. XOXO, Jackie

    (4)
  • Maira V.

I ordered carne asada fries and they were good just not for that ridiculous price

    (3)
  • Maria L.

Coming from San Diego, this Mexican joint is average. I don't really taste the authenticity in the food... However! UCR students do get a 10% discount - even though it's not much, I'm pretty sure any broke college student wouldn't pass up the offer! Something I get regularly there is their NAK burrito - it's an interesting mix. I also like the availability of the pickled carrots, pico de gallo, and hot sauces. Btw, their carne asada fries are hella bomb - better than Santana's AND they have a half order of it!

    (3)
  • Danny A.

Good burrito, best chimichanga and bomb carne asada fries!

    (5)
  • Justin C.

I could not have survived 4 years at UCR without Jilbertos. Even though they have the BEST carne asada fries I've had, sometimes the best is not quite perfect. However, I do love...I mean LOVE...the menudo!! It's only available on Saturdays and Sundays (like most Mexican restaurants) but it is phenomenal! The tortilla is super fresh, the tripe is tender, the soup base is not too salty...I get it every time I'm there on a Sunday. If you're in the area, Jilbertos is a must go!

    (4)
  • Alex T.

The first time I had Los Jilbertos, I immediately fell in love with it. Honestly, it must be those carne asada fries. Other times, I've ordered and tried different things, and I have never been disappointed. But those Carne Asada Fries are a must try! Why you ask? Crunchy, not soggy fries. Mass amounts of carne asada. Right amount of sour cream and guacamole. Cheese becomes perfectly melted. If you're on the go, try the California burrito! It's basically the carne asada fries wrapped in a tortilla!

    (5)
  • Gavin H.

Very good Mexican restaurant. Nice and big portions of food I've ordered. I can't speak for all that they have to offer, but I really enjoyed their Carne Asada Fries, the Nak burrito, and the Monster burrito. You get tons of meat and fries for the first one, and the burritos feel like they were meant to fill you up from breakfast until dinner. Also, if you're a Highlander, they'll give you a 10% discount! If I wrote this review earlier, I would have given them 5/5 stars. However, I just can't seem to give them that extra star since they raised their prices on the carne asada fries. Doesn't seem fair to raise it, since it's just bits of meat and fries. $7.xx was already hard to decide whether if i should indulge or not, but when they raised it to (I think it is) $9, I couldn't see myself ordering carne asada fries again. However, if you're thinking of eating here for the first time, do it!!!! Bring all your friends around 6pm and hope that some weird (wo)man with a high pitched voice comes up and asks "¿dinero por favor?"

    (4)
  • Irene T.

First thing, HUGE portions and moderate pricing. I've gotten the Asada fries and tacos here. The food is pretty filling but it flavor was that great compared to what I've had back at home. The meat for the asada fries wasn't caramelized enough. It seemed like it was just cooked before and warmed up. Recommended that you share the asada fries with a friend. On another note, they have a small salsa bar which is pretty awesome. I love my spice. Overall though, it's a good place to go for late night snacks or to get that quick fix.

    (3)
  • Han P.

Pico on pico on pico. This place is like a pico de gallo buffet and I love it. I mostly come here for their FAT ASS tacos. I once made the mistake of ordering four, thinking they were small, but when I got them, ooooohhhh boy. I could only finish one and a half. No worries, though, because it was still moderately priced. And did I mention that endless buffet of pico de gallo they just lay out for you??? I also get their carne asada fries. Ay dios mio!!! Seriously, so terrific. It's got the perfect ratio of fries:cheese:meat:(guacamole). The fries are crisp, and the meat is cooked perfectly, the cheese is oozing when you get it and it just fits together. Best of all, you can top if all off with a TON of pico de gallo....if you're into that stuff, I mean. The only thing I don't like about this place is how it smells.

UCR campus surroundings are full of... 1. chinese fast food 2. frozen yogurts (x4) 3. bad japanese food 4. unhealthy fast food 5. fake (real) chinese food Not saying this is any healthier but... if u're sick of all the things i've mentioned above.. u better make a food run to Los Jilbertos. Big portions.. good price (discount with UCR student ID) but pay cash if you wanna save on credit card fees, and their.. carne asada (everything) is delicious! I dont really like mexican food.. esp not taco bell or chipotle, but I like the mexican food here!

    (4)
  • Ricky C.

Hands down the best place to get Mexican food around riverside. Their NAK and California burrito are on point and the steak quesadilla are decent. Haven't tried anything other than those because I usually just get the California burrito with the French fries inside. The green sauce they have makes the burrito that much better. The only things I don't like about this place is the Debit card card is extra 50 cents and it's not 24hr like Santana's.

    (4)
  • Elizabeth Z.

One word...NAK. Ever since I came here two years ago and tried their nak burrito, I fell in love! It's basically care asana fries wrapped in a burrito, where the fries are crispy and the meat is seasoned perfectly! I recommend their green salsa to add a lighter taste to the burrito and the blood red one to add that spicy kick. I came here so often they pretty much knew my order when I walked in...true fatty status. BONUS: show your ucr id and you get an extra 10% off! :D

    (5)
  • Amber L.

TERRIBLE!!!! The first time I went there I got hard shell tacos.. the shells wernt fresh they seemed store bought. I thought I'd give them one more change. I got 'rolled tacos' they tasted like they had been frozen then heated the the microwave.... not even free food would get me to go back... I can microwave food at home.

MY REASON FOR BREATHING IN RIVERSIDE Let me just say, this place has the BEST Carne Asada Fries I have ever tried in my entire life. And trust me, I've tried Carne Asada fries at Alberto's and Santana's. When I first moved to Riverside I thought Santana's was the best Mexican place to get carne asada fries. WRONG. After trying these fries, it literally changed my life. Most taco shops serve pretty good carne asafa fries, but are their fries crispy and fresh? I think not. They're usually soggy. Not Los Jilberto's ugh-ugh. Their fries are crisp to perfection. The carne asada is tender. The guacamole, cheese and sour cream are heart-attack central but who cares YOLO. The NAK burrito ( carne asada and other stuff can't remember) is delicious as well. I also tried their chimichangas. I like how crisp the outside of the chimichanga is. They out the guacamole and the sour cream on the side so your burrito doesn't get soggy. Their tacos are to die for. Cheap and pretty big for $1.50. Remember to bring cash or else you get charged for ATM fee. Also if you look young enough to pass as a college student just tell them you're a UCR student to get a discount. Parking is spacious. The reason why I can't give this place 5 stars is because it always smells strange inside. Maybe its the chemicals they use to clean their facility. Just writing this review makes me want to drive back to Riverside.

its really good and very large portions. variety in the menu and prices are low. i cant find any drawbacks. i will go back.

  • Jairo A.

It's not the best Mexican food BUT it's pretty damn good! I highly recommend the lengua tacos, the enchilladas, tortas, and the Monster Nachos. Their pickled onions with carrots and jalapenos go perfect with the food, so you choose how spicy you want your food! I once ate a carne asada burrito as big as a BOAT! This place really gives you your money's worth. Unlike other places, they believe in loading stuff with meat! Give this place a try, it's really good.

    (4)
  • Tamika S.

I was really hoping this place was going to be great, maybe its b/c I'm no longer a college student but I need better food and much better service. I'm a vegetarian, so my options were limited but my quesadilla came out greasy and everything has a side cost and the service was poor. I asked a few questions and got all attitude. I'll let the UCR students keep this experience.

    (2)
  • Rebecca N.

After some hardcore studying at UCR, I headed down to this place to refuel myself. It's this tiny little hut looking thing off of University Ave. I got a beef and fish taco combo plate and the boyfriend got the two beef burritos combo plate. Waited about 5-10 minutes for the food. The beef taco was okay. I really had to like close my eyes so all of my sensory powers went to my tongue to find some kind of flavor to it. The fish taco was also okay. My only problem with it was that the fish was seriously swimming in that white ranch-y, tartar sauce-y stuff. The beans were sitting in this cute tortilla bowl and I had a cylinder block of rice. The amount of food you get and the quality for their prices are pretty darn cheap.

    (4)
  • Christine D.

Better food than Santana's and and dare I say maybe even Alberto's. I've only every had their breakfast carne asada burrito and the horchata. Service wasn't bad but don't expect to be waited on hand and food. UCR students get a 10% discount so be sure to bring your student ID. :D

Seems a bit redundant to repeat what has been said on every single other review here but.... Go try the Carne Asada Fries for yourself. It's delicious. :9

  • Aaron S.

The most standard Mexican place you can find in California.. and that's a good thing. It hits the spot when you want it, and it does a good job at it! Carne Fries are really that good.. put some red sauce on them and it brings the flavor out more. Burrito's are gigantic! You can customize a lot of their stuff if you want fish and whatever (I had fish subbed for carne asada once for fries and that was good). Nothing so memorable about this place, but it's still really wonderful.

    (3)
  • Felicia L.

OMG the carne asada fries.... The best. I would even say better than some in San Diego... I love the food here. In addition to the carne asada fries, I love their carne asada burritos, tacos and tortas. The restaurant itself is very nice and sweet. It looks like the building was made from around the 70's... it has a very retro architecture to it. Nonetheless the restaurant inside has nice Mexican decorations all around. This is probably the best place to get Mexican food around the UCR area. Santana's sucks compared to Los Jilberto's, lol. I would say the only thing Santana's has over Los Jilberto's is that they open 24 hours, while Los Jilberto's is open til like 11pm at the latest. Also, don't forget UCR students can get 10 % off showing their ID (only if you are paying cash..) =)

    (4)
  • Darlene L.

My favorite Mexican joint while attending UCR. I would usually get the chilaquiles for breakfast, ended up gaining weight. But their carne asada fries come in big portion! You can share them, but you can be a fat ass like me and just have them for yourself. If you're a UCR student, you get a 10% discount, not much but hey, I'm a poor college student trying to save up as much as I can

    (5)
  • Danny N.

What can I say? Through the 4 years I've attended UCR, I have been a regular here. I only order one thing, CARNE ASADA FRIES. Simply the best. I've had Santana's Carne asada fries and they just don't compare.

    (5)
  • Elisabeth B.

The Carne Asada fries will BLOW YOUR MIND! I live on the east coast now, but whenever I make it out to cali again, I always make sure to stop here :)

Fantastic food! The NAK burrito has easily become my favorite burrito of all time. The tacos are also super delicious if you are curious about it or a little sketched out by location be sure not to stray from this one.

    (4) times I have went... First time was awesome had the recommended Carne fries and they were huge and it was de.li .cious I thought I had found a new hole in the wall it was 5 stars. Second time I went I tried two things the Chile Verde platter and also got the Carne fries as backup. The Chile Verde was not cooked well definitely tasted less than authentic probably canned sauce canned chile even microwaved... the carne fries were also bland it seemed like they were missing that extra edge they had whatever it was in the before time. I felt like they didn't care (I figured well it was midnight, maybe just a bad time to go and I wasn't intoxicated enough not to care) Third attempt, horrible I got sick on this attempt I had the Carne fries which again were missing that (whatever) flavor it had the first time... and on top of that the meat was almost pure fatty cut it was like chewing through rubber. My buddy who loves this place had now been with me on two of these excursions and said this place is going downhill (figures I would find a bomb mexican food place and it would be on its decline) I also had a bean and chese burrito... REALLY how do you cook such a horrible bean and cheese burrito (and I have had their beans before they were really good! I was almost at that breaking point. Fourth attempt... oh my word... so I ask for the carne fries when I ask I specifically request if they could make them like they used to make them about a year ago... I think this made them upset .. anyways I get this rude response and I try them... oily, the fries were mushy and uncooked... the carne was crap again. I like Santana's and I like Tony's and I REALLY wanted to like this place but take my advice there are way better places that are MUCH more consistent in their food...

After reading all the Yelp reviews, I just had to try this place. The only Mexican food by my apartment is mediocre at best, so I was excited to really get some fantastic burrito action happening. I took a friend here after hyping it up a bit (she didn't know what Yelp was, so I had to talk it up from the reviews I read), put our order in to go and took it back to my place. Friend ordered a chile rellano burrito, I ordered a carne asade burrito, and order my husband a Monster burrito. The wait was fairly short, the staff polite, and we promptly took the food home. Turns out what my friend got was not a chile rillano burrito like she ordered, but she said it was really good so she didn't care. The Monster burrito was huge and enchilada style, which my husband was terrified would give him heartburn, but didn't. My burrito was delicious and didn't leave me with that "Why did I do this to myself?! WHY?!" feeling that greasy Mexican food always leaves you with an hour after eating. I was full. I was happy. There was no grumbling and it was all $20. So going back!

The carne asada fries did not "blow my mind." It didn't do anything for me. It tasted bland and it was missing something but I can't put my finger on what. The restaurant also had a weird slightly unplesant smell to it. The tables and chairs were heavy and impractical. Just in case you haven't caught on yet, I was not impressed.

Ok, i don't know what the heck the hype is about the carne asada fries and the NAK burrito. But the rolled tacos are bland and the california burrito. It is all about the FISH BURRITO #11. I love it so much better and price wise than lousy rubios. Seriously, go here instead of mcdonalds, taco bell, carls jr. etc. This is the best for the fish burrito.

JIbs!!!! The carne asada fries or sausage breakfast burrito is my go to order. Probably one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Riverside and it isn't too far from campus. Way better than Santana's. The staff is also generally friendly too.

Los Jilbies - yet another highlight of my college career. On those nights when I wanted a boatload of food for less than $6~7, you were the one to satisfy that desire. BACKGROUND: Hole in the wall, small, dingy restaurant located moments away from UCR campus - would always come here after AACF to hang out. SETTING: This place is pretty trashy - there's always a funny smell, a minimum of 3 flies flying around your head, and a flickering light to boot. But who cares about ambiance when all you want is a boxful of greasy food, right? There's a handful of tables inside the store and a handful more outside of the shop. HITLIST: Carne Asada Fries (aka The Dream; The Motherload): A bed of straw fries topped with lovely chunks of carne asada, smothered with a creamy ranch and sour cream concoction, topped with cheese, tomatoes, guacamole, and loads and loads of calories. Eating this canNOT be good for you. But you know what? I'll still get me a box. I remember this being $5.50 when I first started school, but I'm sure the price has gone up since. The fries were a perfect crisp, the meat was salty to perfection, not overpowering, and the creaminess of the sauce paired with the cheese made for a devilish combination. (8/10) Chicken Chimichanga: The chimichanga (aka The 8th Wonder of the World) - fried to crispy perfection, loaded with chicken, cheese, and rice - it's a miracle that Los Jilbertos hasn't been the cause of death for its customers. This food is seriously unhealthy, but oh boy, it's the reason we keep coming back. The chicken is tender and has good texture, mixed with the culinary glue called cheese - this dish leaves me gasping for air, and survival for that fact, after I eat it, but it is OH SO GOOD. (8.5/10) VERDICT: Oh Los Jilbies, why do you have to be so far from me now? You're good, heck, you're great, but not good enough for me to want to drive all the way out to Riverside to see you again. I'm saddened, as our relationship has come to an end. I will eat you anytime I'm in the area, but for now, that is never. I love this hole in the wall and think that everyone should give it a shot!

Best Mexican place that they have around UCR. Only thing I don't like is that it is not open 24 hours like Santana's across the street and also they charge a small fee for using card. They have really bomb carne asada fries that is large enough to share with someone. The fries are nice and the meat is really great. They are very consistent with their orders of fries each time I go and it's just really hard to pass up when trying to think of what to order. If you haven't tried this place yet, bring a friend and split the carne asada fries and you will regret not trying this place a little sooner.

Jilbertos is one of the best Hispanic places I have eaten at. ..why.. The Food: Lets get straight to the point. Jilbertos is probably known for their...drum roll please....CARNE ASADA FRIES. Right amount of crunchy fries, topped with guacamole, mexican cheese, etc. The fries are not too crunchy too! The prices are right for the quantity of food served. Their burritos are good too, especially the NAK and California burrito. This place does not use rice as a filler in the burrito. Finally, you have to order their horchata so you can wash down all that Carne asada and burrito flavor. This place is definitely better than Santanas down the street... In conclusion, 5/5 stars for Hispanic fast food that tastes great

one thing i HATE about this place is that it's not open 24 hours a day!!!! plus they also add a fee if you use card -___- BUT other then that this place has to be one of the best mexican places by UCR. It's really easy to pass up. I've passed this place many times, if you're driving from the school on university then it'll be on your left side with a little red sign saying Los Jilbertos My favorite thing to get are the carne asada fries and i'd dump hella pico de gallo on that and also get some of those carrots which are hella good. The fries are nice thin and crispy and the meat is really good too. Much more better then Santana's and Santana's isn't very consistent with their carne asada fries, some times it lookes different -___- I have yet to venture into other parts of the menu cus the carne asada fries are just too good to not get. Definitely have to try this place, and bring cash if you wanna avoid that credit card charge.

This place is it for quick and delicious Mexican food in the area. Sorry Santana's and Taco Station. The food quality is consistent each time I visit, which is something that is really important. The socioeconomics of the area it is in is kind of "meh," and the decor and building could use an upgrade, but I suppose that would make them lose that intangible charm this place has. all these for the win: Nak Burrito California Burrito Beef Chimichanga Potato and Cheese Burrito Carne Asada Fries Super Nachoes Make sure to wash it all down with a large horchata!

It's the closest thing to Lolitas in San Diego and Riverside wouldn't be as good without it. Another late night Mexican eatery that has your usual carne asada fries and burritos. I particularly love getting their breakfast burrito ( potatoe and cheese only ) or their naknak burrito. If you're familiar with the California burrito and really like it, try their naknak burrito because it's even better. If you don't like beans ( because they come in the burrito ) just ask for " no beans".

Best Traditional Mexican fast food I've ever had. Anything Carne Asada is good lol.... and you must try their HORCHATA!!! And if u do get the carne asada fries, make sure u top it off with onions/cilantro (pico del galo) at the toppings bar. Top 3 things to get: Carne Asada Fries, Carne Asada Burrito, HORCHATA!!!! If you like spicey something to try not on the menu: Deep fried Jalepeno with Lemon. 25c each . Normally comes in 2 for 50c. (Warning, this is spicey, it's very good if you like SPICY!).

Ate here for the first time today 6/21/12. I had carne asada fries. They were $8.50. I had a diet Pepsi. It was flat and tasted funny. Refills are 82 cents. Alberto's carne asada fries are 100x better. The fries were soggy. The carne asada tasted weird. I took 3 bites and threw out the rest. They use cotija cheese. Glad I didn't waste calories on these fries. Also, this place is expensive!!! Ohh & there was a fly flying around inside. Plus they don't clean tables. I sat on beans and they got all over my skirt.. I don't like this place. It's gross!! So honestly, i think all these people that are giving this place 5 stars are drunk college students who dont really know about good fresh food. Sorry. No offence but serioulsy this place is NOT good. Tina's and Tony's are way better. k. bye

Best carne asada fries ive ever had.. i went to UCR and this place is probably one of the very few things i miss about that place.. theres a santana's mexican joint across the street which is 24hr and friendly service (at least to me) but the quality and taste of the food isn't comparable.. pickled carrots and veggies are awesome too.. mos def tourist spot

Had the carne asada quesadilla and the carne asada fries, both are really good but the fries should probably be shared haha. Good price for the quality. They have 10% discount for UCR students, but you have to ask. They don't take credit cards, and have a fee for using a debit card.

Sunday, October 23, 2011 Came to get my grub on with Mexican Food! Total: $9.20 $7.50 - Super Nachos - I will always love these nachos. The tortilla chips are amazing and crispy in just the right away. The pour on a generous amount of guacamole, sour cream, shredded cheese, and carne asada! :) Yum in my tum. I always eat this with the chunky red salsa. That stuff is sweet but not too sweet. It has the perfect taste. It doesn't taste bitter from the spiciness. $1.99 - Carne Asada Taco - I seriously thought this was going to fall flat from my expectations. I was wrong. Oh so wrong! It was unexpectedly good! With that bomb chunky red salsa, it tasted delicious. This is way better than their chicken and fish tacos which fall oh so.. F F F F L A T TYYY Good dinner.

I just finished my bean, rice, & cheese burrito and I am a little sad that it's gone. (+) Delicious burritos Cheap Fast Salsa & pickled carrots!!!!!!!! (-) .50 cent ATM card fee no drive thru not 24 hours Some reviews say the place doesn't look clean, but it looks fine to me. I usually take my food to go. I might be willing to bump it up to 5 stars if they add potato tacos to the menu or a torta w/queso panela.

Sorry Santana's you are good, but Los Jilbertos definitely sets the standard for Mexican food in the Inland Empire. Yes this place deserves a 5 stars because of the following: Carne Asada Fries. Carne Asada Burritos. Carne Asada Nachos. Carne Asada tacos. Hmm I wonder about the Carne Asada torta. Did I happen to mention I love carne asada? Are you the type of person that says "can I have a lot of hot sauce?" Well take as many as you like here because it is self served. This place will definitely be missed when I stop coming to Riverside.

Nine bucks for some fries? I thought the price was outrageous, and then I got my order, and all was forgiven. They do really give you a lot, and as other reviewers have stated, it is tasty. Not as good as my earlier review for Lolita's in San Diego, but definitely a worthwhile stop in Riverside.

Mexican food at its worst. Fatty, greasy and with flavors overwhelmed by the cheese and sour cream.

BEST carne asada fries I've ever had. Their salsa is BOMB. They used to let you have however much salsa you wanna put on top of your carne asada fries but now they charge you for all the extra salsa cups you take.

Usually love the food but the awful service is tipping the scales! Two weeks ago I placed a lunch to-go order of the carnitas tacos, my favorite meal there. And when I got back to the office, I discovered they gave me carne asada. I love me some carne asada, but 1) I had a hankering for carnitas and I was hugely disappointed, adn 2) it was super dry! Fail!!

I am an AVID fan of cheap Mexican food, and constantly looking for a fresh new place to satisfy my cravings. Riverside is about an hour away from me, but i usually give this place a visit when i drive over to hang with some friends at UCR. This place is phenomenal! Their carne asada fries, NAK (california) burrito, and pretty much everything on their menu is enough to fill you up for less than $10 I've had my fair share of mexican food + fries, so i decided to try something new and ordered their chimichanga combo for about...$8. Came with lettuce, beans and their signature rice. I've never had anything like it! Perfectly stewed, shredded chicken in a fat burrito, deep fried to perfection. My health aside, it is definitely good for my soul AND my wallet. The last times i've gone were after i'd been boarding @ Mt. High for a couple hours and was ready to tear a cow apart...and Jilbertos definitely saved a couple cows.

Holy cow. This is my 4th year at UCR... about to graduate... and I ate JB's for the first time last night. Holy crap. I got the two beef burrito combo plate to go. Two GIANT burritos, stuffed with shredded (not ground, huzzah!) beef with a little bit of a onion/pepper mixture. It was delicious, especially with sour cream and a bit of their salsa verde. The plate came with beans and rice. I'm not a huge fan of refried beans, but the beans at JB's are delicious, mysteriously creamy and just salty enough. The rice was amazing too. My giant dinner (enough for dinner last night, lunch today with some STILL sitting in my fridge right now) cost less than $7. What could be better than a huge amount of great quality food for a decent price?! LOVE this place!

I was introduced to Los Jilbertos by a friend and what a good friend, because this place is a diamond in the rough. The food is fresh, tastes very good, and they always serve it hot! This places provides extreme value, especially on a student budget. My favorite item on the menu is the California Burrito with no cheese and the chipotle hot sauce. Don't let the decor and the low budget feeling of the building deter you, this place makes good food on a consistent basis.

  • Tays T.

Hole in the wall... I come here pretty often for a quick Mexican meal. Their prices are pretty inexpensive and they offer a 10% UCR student discount with ID. Their combos are a good deal, as they can easily fill your stomach for $7-8. When I want to grab a quick meal on the go, I usually order the California Burrito...so delicious. Their Carne Asada Fries are worth the hype, but you probably want to find a friend to share it with.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
