Get the wiki wicker and the hat that comes with it! Great drink and my husband wears it every time he mows the lawn now. Note: the golf cart places down the street will not rent you a cart if ANYONE in your group has the hat. I was pretty pissed and thought it was rude. The idiot behind one counter tried to tell me it's a law. I'm an attorney and promptly called his bluff, but he still wouldn't rent us a cart.

This place was a tourist trap big time but the free hat with my wiki waked drink was worth it. The drink floored me and had me so freaking hung over I didn't even get to enjoy our private cabana the next day as much as we would like to. The drink is soooooo strong like black out drunk type shit. Watch out and be warned

Wiki Wacker is $9 and you get a free straw hat! Awesome! Right on the strip with a tropical vibe

  • Jake M.

So on my first drink (wiki wacker) the bar tender donned a straw hat on my head, then everything went groovy. Food is surprisingly good. Highly recommend for a less serious night out.

Stopped in here for an early lunch and one of their famed Wiki Wackers complete with souvenir hat. I had a club sandwich and fries, hubbs had a french dip and fries. Both were solid. We shared a Wiki Wacker...can't get too wacked before noon...it was good. Your run of the mill rum punch, but the kitschy tourist aspect of it is kind of fun.

We took a family vacation to Avalon last month and really looked forward to coming back to Luau Larry's for burgers and booze! The good news is, the drinks are nice and strong and the burgers are yummy. The bad news is, customer service is a bit lacking. See, we had an incident where my sister in law bit down on a maraschino cherry that had a pit in it. Her tooth chipped. When our waitress came by, SIL showed her the pit and her chipped tooth. The response? "Oh, my son was here yesterday and the same thing happened to him!" We all just stared at her, because...WTF? A normal person with feelings would say, "Oh my god, I am so sorry. Let me get you a new drink and I will take this off your bill." or "Wow, are you all right?! That's awful! Let me get the manager and see how we can help you." Instead...a story about her son and how they knew about the pits in the cherries all along and, well, gee, doesn't that suck? I don't think this waitress has actual emotions. She THEN cited some policy that said she couldn't comp drinks, which seems bizarre. So, if you come here and anything unpleasant happens to you, don't expect any recompense and expect to hear a story about how that happens all the time and what're you gonna do?

Looking for a good time for a drink and some pretty decent bar food? Luau Larry's is that spot. We were only on this island for two nights, but we ended up here twice during our short trip since it was so much fun! We started by getting our nerdy hawaiian hats that come when you buy their special island drink that is sugary but really strong ha ha And then you have the marking hat that tells everyone around you all over the island that you went to Luau Larry's since it really is a pretty famous hat to wear around there ha ha. Plus their food isn't too bad here either. Is it the best food you will ever eat? No, but it comes out pretty quickly, they also serve late night food which is a must if you are out for new years like we were, and they have some ahi poke special that was amazing! Matt J. and I were fighting over who got more of that poke dish because it was so fresh and tasty! Wouldn't have ever guessed we could get something that fresh tasting and that tasty for about $15. I think that was some of the best seafood we had by far there. So hooray for luau larry's! It is a party here, and even if isn't when you show up, soon it will be especially if you get one of those hats.

If you want to party and love music, go see Gill. We went last weekend on Saturday night. Crowded, for a reason. Drinks were good, bartenders kept 'em coming and Gil just flat out rocked. Don't know how he does it. Huge catalog, can play and sing anything. Fun time, way better than I expected at a little joint on Catalina.

The mixed drinks don't have prices but they are $9.00 Nice little place to get som drinks. Overall for the location and surrounding places this is the best for drinks. Didn't try the food.

Gotta say this is a fun place if you're in the right mood. And if you're not in the right mood, one or two 'Wickie Whackers' should fix that! Oh and that also scores you a straw hat for memorabilia's sake. Our server was Kamlyn, who was as much fun as she was a highly competent waitress. We tuned up here before a round of mini golf. It was so much fun, that we went back after our round for another round from Kamlyn. A perfect 'island bar!' Right on the main drag - good for people watching too.

  • Melony E.

We stopped in for breakfast. The beans were good, the eggs were cooked as ordered, but the potatoes were not done. We both ordered coffee which was very strong (like!) but the downside is that there was no flavored creamer. Cool little spot to fill us up before our Catalina adventure!

  • Tim C.

Food...meh Not what I am reviewing. I am reviewing the drinks of course. They mix up some pretty good cocktails with legitimate Island flair and make them strong and delicious. For a starter drink when welcoming yourself to the island or if you and your loved one are just looking for an enjoyable way to have a nightcap, I would recommend Luau Larry's. Just don't say I never warned you about the food....

Fun bar!!! Get the wiki whacker, comes with a hat!! They pour heavy here no joke so be prepared. Food was bar food nothing spectacular. Place is small so get there early for a seat.

Never has a waitress been that rude to me. I never ate there but based on my 20 minute wait, I'll pass. First of all, it is really unclear when you arrive what you're supposed to do. No sign. No host. Eventually I went in and started asking random people. Some guy walking around that appeared to be the bartender told me to wait. Waited 15 minutes more and then asked a waitress if any tables would be available; very nicely. She ignored me the first time. I waited for her to help her table and on her way back very nicely asked what the protocol was. Snapped and told me to write my name "over there". Sorry, I wrote my name at the Lobster Trap (who also has burger night, $5 on the same Wednesday night!). Lobster Trap has a hostess and she took my name and called when the table was ready. Hey Larry, take note! If you're gonna have a night with a special, and really any night, you should consisder: 1. Training your waitresses. 2. Get a host.

After our couples massage, my fiance and I were hungry! He really wanted to have a bison burger, so our masseuse recommended Luau Larry's. The restaurant and bar is kind of on the small side. They had three TVs showing three different college football games, which we appreciated. However it was hard to see if you were sitting anywhere aside from the bar. I kind of wished it was a bit better appointed inside. Service was good, our server overhead us talking about nachos so she immediately checked in and took our order (of nachos)... Now that's service!! Haha. -chicken nachos: on the plain side (just chips, cheese, and chicken with sour cream, salsa, guac, and jalapeños on the side) but it satisfied us -buffalo burger: juicy and delicious! Highly recommend, comes with crispy onion strings in the burger and fries on the side -buffalo milk: a white Russian with some banana mixed in, delicious but I kind of wished it didn't have the banana! -margarita: exceptionally smooth!

My husband and I came here for dinner on a Friday night and the food was fantasti. I wish I could say the same for drinks I got a Pilsner draft and it was almost warm. But better prices than almost anywhere on the island. We had the fish & chips and the fish was deliciously fresh but French fries seemed almost cold. It's a very cramped place and the best seats in front of the water are always taken. Our waiter was friendly and on top of it. Around 9 the live bar plays and it's awesome music but no room inside.

  • Rachel P.

Great location across from the beach and next to our hotel the Pavilion. Presentation is okay and burger was a bit over cooked on the Kona burger. Hot dog was good.

  • SF P.

Get your Wiki wacked and they give you a straw hat. There are other places for buffalo burgers but this place does it right. Once a week is burgers in paradise..beef burgers for cheap. Also, once a week there is a 9" pizza with a beverage of your choice. Yes, this does include items on tap.

    (4)
  • Gladys F.

Get the Wiki Wacker drink and get a straw hat for $9. The place has a chill vibe and looks like it could be really fun with the right crowd. We were visiting the island midweek so we only shared the bar with less than 10 others that evening. The wiki wacker is a strong drink and I was only able to have just one. Had the environment been right, I'm sure i would've been able to handle a couple more drinks. Unfortunately, the music was barely audible and was very mellow, think Journey. The only excitement were two 50's something women who were obviously inebriated. All in all kind of a boring way to call it a night.

Good drinks, nice atmosphere, and the bartender Juan is funny. We went for a triple birthday trip and wanted to try the whiky wacker. It was good but I really liked the spicy Mexican lollipop. Shout out to Juan.. He makes the best drinks!!!

Drinks and service are great, the cave gets stuffy and a bit cramped but it's a fun place to hang out and have a couple drinks. It's right on the beach which is awesome!

  • Dorothy K.

Like others recommend, get the wiki whacked drink for $9.99 - it comes with a fun straw hat or bumper sticker. I got the grilled swordfish - it's like a fish steak with steamed veggies, white rice, and garlic bread. Interesting combo but it was good and I ate almost all of it. :) Fun place to eat, chill, drink, and watch bull riding on tv.

My bf and I stopped here on a Friday night. There was a live performance that was highly entertaining. The bar consisted of locals and tourists. It has a small dance floor which was frequently occupied. Servers were very attentive even though the place was packed. We were comfortable here.

Luau Larry's is the spot to be on Catalina Island during evenings! Gill.. THE WORLDS GREATEST GUITARIST plays exceptionally! If you get lucky you will find him shredding the guitar behind his head or even with his mouth, kind of like a harmonica.. a big harmonica. Everybody is there to have a good time and the servers are friendly! Christina keeps it cool and is very helpful, also quite gorgeous. GET YOUR WICKEY WACKED!

  • Tomaso F.

Looking for a place to wear stupid looking straw hats, listen to great classic rock with a good view of the harbor while downing island drinks? Yeah, okay, great....stop at this little tiki bar on the Catalina Island strip then. You won't be disappointed. I'd say don't go here for the food although it's average bar food but nothing more than that. Service was good and if you're looking for a game, the TVs are on without sound. Had a pizza that was far from Italian but I'm not complaining, just giving a fair assessment. I say check it out.

This place would get four stars if the service was halfway decent. The food was good (my bf ordered the chicken sandwich special and I had the popcorn shrimp). His alcoholic drink wasn't that good because it just tasted like a random mixed of alcohol. Good food but pricey, like the rest of the island. The service, however, was nonexistent. Our server never checked up on us and had to be waved down for every little thing, including a Coke refill and getting our check. The table next to us also had to wait for a long time to get their food from their server. They did not look happy and actually had to get up and search for their food. We do want to come back though to order the drink that comes with the silly straw hat. Darn gimmacks.

  • Anth D.

The chicken sandwich was pretty good. My server - because apparently sitting at the bar is the "place that matters" - didn't really pay any attention to us. Like... at all. We had to call him over for water. Then drinks. Then to order. Then for our check. I tipped my server out of sheer habit, because no way did he earn a dollar from any service we got. I was seriously going to scratch it out once I realized it, and decided that maybe he just needs a class on serving people. Tuition, buddy, from me to you. We came in because we saw the goofy straw hats, and nobody - NOBODY - ever told us how to get one. I only know NOW because of the reviews here on Yelp that you have to order a signature drink to get one. Seriously! They failed at their own marketing shtick. Who does that? I'd have ordered one! Why didn't anyone say so? I'll tell you why I think: The server was more interested in being a bartender, and absolutely DISinterested in being a server. We were on the island for 6 days, and this was by far the most forgettable experience on the island. That's as in... "FORGET - ABLE". It's a shame. Good chicken sandwich. Great atmosphere and Tiki concept. Even an almost competitive nightlife with entertainment. Blah service. I'll be back, maybe, just to get the souvenir hat. But I'll be damned if I'm not sitting at the bar when I get it so someone acknowledges us.

Girl with brown hair you are horrible!!! Worst service ever in history!!!!!! Bartender you were nice and courteous and I can't believe you have to put up with her and deal with guests giving you the annoyed face. She forget to put our orders in, took forever and left us with horrible experience!!!! If you see her, don't expect any service!!! Just sit at the bar Omar will actually give you service!!!!!

This place had a great location along the beach and seems to keep a crown all time. I went with my family to celebrate...well being family. We sat in a booth and were waited on by a sweet girl who had a perpetual smile. She dealt with us and our drunk hilarity with patience and poise. I was impressed. We racked up a $200 bill, mostly alcohol, and for that patience she was rewarded with quite the nice tip. I was happy to do it for a staff that took care of us. I had a swordfish sandwich that was simply wonderful and the appetizers were awesome. A few of our people even got "Wiki Wacked"!!! You should ask about it and find out what I mean. I was not impressed with much in Catalina and Avalon, but this was overall a victory. Thanks Luau Larry's staff!!!

Not sure if boat trip made us hungry but out first stope was Luau Larry's for some chow. I ordered the buffalo burger with Mexican lollipop drink. The burger was juicy and cook to perfection . The drink was a delish with a kick at the end. Later we went back in the evening after dinner and had the buffalo milk... Can you say yummy! Make sure to stop by for a drink or a meal.

Okay this place is a must when visiting Catalina. You have to get a Wiki Wacker(drink), its great people watching and the atmosphere is FUN! This place is FUN I recommend it and will be going back.

Stopped here for lunch before leaving Catalina. The service was okay, though we had to seat ourselves and I heard several other patrons ask how they could get a table and how they could order food. It didn't seem to be very organized or welcoming for those walking in, but the service was fine once we were seated. I ordered the fish and chips special and was a little surprised when it came out because I was expecting more food than what there was. There were just 3 smallish pieces of fish, a very small portion of fries, and no cole slaw. I thought fish and chips always came with cole slaw. It tasted good, just wish I had left feeling a little fuller. Considering the small portion sizes, I thought the price was a little high.

Someone had recommended this place as a great place for food and drinks. I was sadly disappointed. It's pretty tight, so my friend and I decided to sit at the bar. I got a vegetarian burger with curly fries and a mojito. The burger wasn't very flavorful but I was too hungry to care. The mojito was pretty weak and average. It gets really loud inside, so be prepared to talk over others.

  • Thomas H.

We went there on a Saturday morning, and I had a breakfast burrito. Expect to spend a little more, because it's an island and everything is more expensive. It was $10 for the burrito, but it was very big and very good tasting. The reason for four instead of five stars was my wife's and friend's bloody marys were very weak with virtually no booze. When you pay $8 per drink, that's not acceptable. Great food, excellent service and soso drinks.

  • Brandon G.

Wiki Wacker! $9.00 and comes with free Tiki Hat! Most unconventional types of alcoholic drinks out of the rest of bars. Random drinks with weird names (ei Bong Water) Crowd during off season was kind of trashy :/ Service wasn't very good, waitress didn't look happy to be there. Also asked for recommendation and her's was terrible (had to send it back) Food was rather good though. Had Buffalo Burgers which I love :D Had live music - one person singer/guitar player. Actually very good! Worth it if you want to buy a drink and get a free hat!

Had fun dining here while on Catalina. Drinks were delicious and the food was pretty good. We had buffalo wings to start then the fish n chips and shrimp n chips. Left stuffed and very happy!!!

If you miss those college spring breaks, then this is the place for you. Pretty gaudy decor, complete with a fake cave you can sit in in the back. Drunk 40 year olds in these stupid straw hats and a couple of teens (either look young or fake IDs) in slutty sailor costumes. I think people who say the food is good is nuts. Seriously?? The chips were stale and the guacamole had zero flavor. The coconut shrimp was decent but I think it came from Costo. The mexican shrimp cocktail was more salsa and water than shrimp. The boys got a regular burger and a buffalo burger and they couldn't even taste the difference. Hmm... Ok I didn't give 1 star because the drinks actually weren't bad and I can taste the alcohol a little bit even in the colada, but that's honestly the only redeeming thing about this place.

I ordered the swordfish special while I was here and loved it!! Great view of the harbor with friendly service and good food.

I went here last year and it was a lot more fun. The place was packed day and night. This time, it was dead as a doornail. And at night, not one single customer. What the Hell.

Food is good. I really like their pizza. The drinks are great. The price is similar to other placing on the island. The service is what kills it. It seems their always under staffed.

This review is for Luau Larry's breakfast. First off, I realize Luau Larry is where you go to get a Wicki Wacker Drink + the hat, and grab a bite for lunch or dinner, but alas I didn't come in here for drinks or a burger, I was stupid enough to come in here for breakfast. Breakfast here was weak. Portions were small, and expensive. More so than other establishments on the street. Had an omelette, walked out and went and got a burger on the pier.

I was here on August 25, 2012. My best memory was of my newlywed Mom & her husband dancing with some serious enthusiasm while my brother and I sat at our table and watched. There were a lot of other people of similar biological maturity who were just as energetic while they danced, arms occasionally flailing wildly enough to smack me in the back/arms. I discovered a drink that I think is conceptually AWESOME but not as well executed by the folks at Luau Larry's: the BUFFALO MILK, which consists of vodka, dark cocoa, creme de banana, milk, and fresh bananas. What could've been a great drink ended up being ultra sweet, far too thick, and not quite strong enough to justify the calories. Not really my kind of scene or (live) music. SIDE NOTE: Bubble wands are AWESOME. It makes sense that someone would pull a ninja and swipe mine at Luau Larry's.

We went for a short trip to Catalina Island and had some relatively bad luck with food here. We were looking for a casual place to have a drink. We wanted to try buffalo milk that this island is famous for. After that feeling frisky I asked for a recommended drink from a bar tender. He suggested spicy Mexican lollipop. Oh, gush, it was awesome! We also had some oysters, they were not small the way I like them but still very fresh and tasty. Love this place

We had to wait a little bit for a table because we came right around dinner time and they were super busy. But the waitress was extremely kind and seated us as soon as a table became available. The food and drinks are really good here! We tried the buffalo burgers, ahi poke, clam chowder and ahi tuna and had the buffalo milk, Larry's piña colada. Everything turned out really good!

Dad told me if you "wacked the wiki" too much you'd go blind... Mom would say, "You're making God cry..." BUT no one told me it CAME with a hat!! Photo - yelp.com/biz_photos/ejki… A friend of mine suggested I drop @ Luau Larry's for a drink!... 'Great suggestion!! We took a seat up @ the bar, lucky us since most of the yelp*views griped & moaned about the sit down, table service. "Suckas!!!" 8) Great, laid back spot to have a few drinks, make some new friends, maybe lose some old ones... ('All depends on how much you drink.) Our bartender, Juan - yelp.com/biz_photos/ejki… We sat next to another fellow who appeared to have been there for a bit. (The glazed eyes, staring off at the wall opposite of us was the first hint.) "What's my tab?... Okay, 'kay... I'll have a Maker's shot!," he said to the bartender. Maker's - yelp.com/biz_photos/ejki… Hmmm, a Maker's Shot... 'That sounded good! I chimed in, "Set us all up for Makers & put it on my tab!" The guy turned to me, "Thanks friend but this'll be on me..." (hiccup) "Mahalo stranger! Okole maluna!!" I didn't quite catch his name but he was an engineer, obvious by his E=MC2 & volume vs. mass jokes... The drinks definitely helped his jokes, drinks always do! I coined him as "Engineer!" EP nicknamed him "Nav," short for Navy. Engineer kept telling us his "good ol' Navy days stories." The nerdy stranger - yelp.com/biz_photos/ejki… So, it was just after noon, we've had two Buffalo Milks, two Wack'n Wikis, & now a Maker's shot! 'And I still have to walk, crawl, be carried down the street to catch the Catalina Express back to Dana Pt. ('Which once I got there, had two more Long Island Ice Teas @ Turks as I waited for my ride. 'She showed up two hours late but what the hell did I care?.... DJ Park had already left the building three drinks ago.) "Yippy kai yay mo'fo!" A great last day to a great trip! Big Aloha Luau Larry & thanks for the hat! Aloha! - yelp.com/biz_photos/ejki… Food(Drinks only): 5 (No time for food!) Service: 4 Ambiance: 4 Value: 4

Stopped in to grab some grub after bike riding most of the day. Ordered Ice Tea - it must have been days old, tasted like mud. Made second mistake of ordering a margarita. Worst ever in my entire life. Tasteless. Decided after that to find someplace else to eat.

It's not a trip to Catalina without a Wiki Wacker. If you like strong drinks, great people watching, straw hats, and caves? Then this is just the place for you. I suggest that you do whatever you have do during the day, but you MUST be sure to end your night here. I just wish I didn't have to travel 26 miles across the sea to get there.

I couldn't believe they have North Coast Brewery Scrimshaw Lager here. One of my all time favorites. Music is old school rock greatest hits. Boston, Airplane, Santana and more. Food is just average. Oysters sub par because they rinse them in tap water and don't release the muscle from the lower shell. I had the shrimp and chips and subbed the chips for fried zucchini for which there was a $2 up charge. I'm good with that until the Zuch's are bitter from age. My kind of laid back atmosphere by the cove even if tourist over priced. Some good, some not so good, but I'd go back for the Scrimshaw.

I'm giving this place three stars based solely on the atmosphere of the bar, their liberal pours, and fun "spring break" like decor and fun factor. Food is not being considered here as it's somewhat embarassing. If you're coming for the food, go ahead and look elsewhere, unless you are only looking for some intermediate snacks to soak up the alcohol and satisfy some hunger paigns before you head out for dinner at a better suited establishment. It appears that most of the service is dedicated to the bar patrons only, and the bartenders work their tails off with drinks being shouted at them. Those sitting in booths look like they are the redheaded step children of the bunch. It is quite apparent this place is built for drinks, not a dining experience. The decor is an amalgam of 80's themed tropical bars ala Tom Cruise's "Cocktails" and Disney's Tiki Room, mixed it with garish south of the border Mexican tourist haunts that lure in the college crowd. It's a bit cramped inside with faux bamboo and other tropical decor. It's a full service bar (with beer) with many localized libations, and a specialty drink that affords you a souvenir wicker island hat. Saw a lot of those around Avalon Bay. Location seems to be in a prime spot, just across from the pier on the main drag in the center of the action. No wonder it's crowded. If your sole goal is to plunk down and tip back a few drinks with your party-like friends and waste a few hours, Larry Luau's seems to be "The" place in teh heart of Avalon Bay.

  • Michelle N.

Basically a dive bar. Rather dark, loud, and cramped inside. Not really my kind of scene, but I tried it out. Robert Irvine would go ballistic over the tacky decor. Kind of cool how they made a little cave room, but it's rather dark and can be claustrophobic for some. Also, service might not notice you in there. Got poke and clam chowder. Poke was okay. Little heavy on soy sauce and salty. Clam chowder was decent. Definitely had better. If I'm paying a lot for food on the island already, I want something good, not just okay. Wouldn't come back. At least the service was friendly and attentive.

You'll feel a little left out if you don't get a Wiki Wacker and rock the giant straw tiki hat while you're dining or drinking at this "fine" establishment! I personally do not care for the type of alcohol in the Wiki Wacker so I instead ordered a White Gummy Bear. It didn't taste anything like a white gummy bear but it was fruity and gave me a good quick tipsiness feeling. I can see why this place is popular being that it's the first noticeable bar after embarking off of the boat craft that got you to the island so location wise it's pretty much the 1st "go-to" location merely out of convenience because of first sight. The place easily gets crowded and I was annoyed when people started getting super loud and all up in my space. Wiggity-Wiggity-Wack!

My boyfriend and I came to Catalina for the day to go snorkeling (with Diving Catalina) and had this place for lunch after. I thought it was pretty tasty! We ordered a pizza, fish tacos, and drinks - lots of drinks! The pina colada is fantastic! I like this place a lot! Great service!!

Great place. Great drinks. Try to get a good spot. All the good seating is in the front and limited. They have live bands that sound good and have a good atmosphere. Get your wicky whacked!

We found ourselves back in here 3 times... This was a cool little bar/grill that was right on the beach. The drinks and staff were great and the swordfish tacos were spectacular. In fact... Next time we go back I am just going to go in and order about 10 of those. Thanks for the great service... Great drinks... Free WiFi and super delicious tacos!!

Want to get "wicky whacked" while spending some down time on Catalina island? After being asked this by a middle-aged cougar who eyed me like an injured doe, I was skeptical. If the rest of the clientele was anything like this former spring chicken, it was likely I'd have to beat off 8,500 combined years of estrogen run amok. After giving in and deciding to YOLO a bit, I obliged... and it ended up being quite the enjoyable first hang after exiting the Catalina Express harbored just a stone's throw away. What is a "whicky whack," you might ask? Well, it's an island favorite that tastes like any drink you'd find at a TGI Fridays, but the difference is that these overly-sugary libations come with a straw hat that was probably manufactured in China for $0.16. It's a fun touch, so I can't hate on it. The drink was terrible, but I didn't expect to imbibe at Employees Only while weekending in this strange oasis in the middle of the Pacific. It is what it is, and if you need to be whacked, there's no better place than Luau Larry's.

Super fun! Great venue to people watch! And be sure to get your Wiki Wacked! The bartenders are fun. The environment is cool and the music makes for a fun environment.

i went with 3 other friends for dinner. there was only ONE guy worker. he was the bartender/hostess/waiter/busboy errrthang.... wtf is wrong wit that?!?! we sat down and more than 5min. went by and no service. we continued sitting then that one worker comes over with a cloth and 4 menus. no apologies, not a single word. he just sloppily wipes our wet table, puts down the menus then walk away. probably 15min. goes by and we're ready to order. i waved my hands a couple of times and i swear that he saw me but he ignored me anyways. okay bush.... we sat a little longer and we decide to screw this place and eat somewhere else. complete waste of my time when a big group was heading in while we were leaving, i was so tempted to tell them don't go there because no one is going to serve u.. but i didn't. maybe i should have PUT MORE WORKERS ON STAFF!!

This was our last stop on the way out of Catalina. After noticing their daily specials we decided to stop in and get out of the rain. After perusing the menu a bit, we decided to get the buffalo burger and the clam chowder bread bowl. The buffalo burger was surprisingly tasty and came with delicious fried onion strings on it and a side of fries. The fries were even crispy and hot which was nice on the cold day. The star of the meal thought had to be the clam chowder. Though the top of the bread bowl was a bit odd (almost like they had chopped off the cone of bread that they cut out and used it for another appetizer), it was still really delicious. A generous helping of clams and served piping hot, it really was a great ending to our dining experience on Catalina. We didn't know what to expect stopping in, but were glad we took a dive. This place also gets busy for happy hour and drinks and looks to be a fun dive bar type place at night.

I'd say it's a pretty fun place. We went on Valentine's evening and it was good times! I got a straw hat, good drinks, and we had some really good nachos. I liked that they had one guy singing with a keyboard and he was singing all these 90's rock songs. It seemed clean and right near the water so I would definitely check it out.

We went here for drinks to kill time before we had to get on our boat. Relaxed atmosphere and good drinks. If you buy a Wiki Wacker you get a straw hat to go with it. ;-) Fun!

Wiki Wacker worth the hat but drink is super strong the nachos are nothing special my baby had swordfish tacos and Caribbean cooler and said both were delicious

Totally had to check this place out and get my Very Own Straw Hat with the Wicki Wacker! It's a really fun Tiki Bar with decent food (had the Buffalo Burger and was good, also had Sweet Potato Fries which I liked). But the Wicki Wacker is why you go there. It's a really good drink for $9 and you get a free Straw Hat that you can wear with pride! They are pretty small so get packed pretty quickly but still had pretty good service. They had live music as well which wasn't bad. Overall had a totally fun time and recommend this place to stop by at least once in Avalon. Especially if you like Tiki Bar and cheesiness! :)

Bomb food bomb mixology and amazing service No pictures, to busy living in the moment and being bombarded by constant food and drink stimulus. Orded half a dozen oysters, clams, shrimp, fish, and swordfish tacos! they made an amazing guacamole and ranch mix sauce that literally goes well with EVERYTHING. Cant wait to go back there.

We visited the island for the first time last November (Thanksgiving weekend) and this place was so fun that we went both nights we were there. The swordfish tacos and mexican shrimp cocktails are yummy!! They have a good selection of beer and their signature drink the "wiki wacker" is delicious! (plus you get a hat!) The service is excellent and best of all is Gill- the one-man live rock-n-roll music performer! From what I've heard Gill has been performing there every Friday and Saturday night for over a decade. He sounds really great and really makes the place so much fun. TIP: tell the bartender that you want to make a wish with the "Chief"!

Great service great drinks. We tried quite a few, the spicy Mexican lollipop shot was delicious! Wiki whacker was good, the hat was a bonus. Drinks were definitely not weak. We didn't order any food but will definitely be back.

This should be your first and last stop in Catalina. Their drinks are delicious, I tried the Avalon Sunset one day and a Bloody Mary the next morning ;-) Some people half ass their bloody Mary's but they did a pretty good job on the spices. Didn't just taste like vodka and tomato juice. For dinner I had seared ahi (an appetizer, not really a dinner) and they are very generous in how much they give you. The ahi melts in your mouth and the seasoning on it was so perfect, it had a Cajun taste to it and a little spicey. Our party ordered it three more times. The day after I had the club sandwich, it left me full, I couldn't finish it. they also have the best fries and their burgers are huge.

Love this place. Classic beach bar, Drinks are really good, allowing you to tolerate the okay food. I gave it 4 stars on the total experience. It's a not to miss icon when visiting Catalina in the summer. Cheers!

After biking around Catalina island for 3 hours, we were craving something hearty. What is more touristy than a hawaiian beach-themed restaurant on this island? LUAU LARRY'S, of course. Food: (His) Buffalo burger - Huge, had fried onion strings on top of the juicy meat. Regular fries on the side. (Mine) Ono sandwich "Special of the day" - Also huge. It actually turned out to be a burger with breaded fish and topped with slaw. Came with sweet potato fries. I would give the food a solid 3 because although the burgers were big in size, the bread fell apart and it was sort of inconvenient to eat. I give the service 5 stars because the waitress was friendly, attentive, and gave off that local vibe. And of course, she suggested the most touristy drink ever: "the wicki wacker" A strong fruity drink that came with a sticker for your car bumper and a huge straw hat: yelp.com/biz_photos/ejki… A couple of Wicki Wackers in you, it will be NO PROBLEM wearing that hat around the island! We also got "Buffalo Milk," which is exactly what a banana smoothy with vodka would taste like. Not my favorite, but it's kinda like dessert? Hey, this place wasn't wikity wack!

The perfect Avalon bar. Friendly bartenders, delicious drinks, prompt service, friendly crowd. Live R&R music on Saturday nights. We also tried the seared tuna appetizer .. wow! Delicious and totally unexpected in a "dive" bar. They don't have a happy hour because they don't need it to draw people in ("every hour is happy hour"!). They've been there for 25 years and from all appearance they will be around for another 25.

A really average bar that would qualify as a dive on the mainland. The only saving grace is the guitar player that rocks out on weekends (and weekdays?). If you buy their signature drink, you get a stupid looking hat.

This place is great for one thing DRINKS! that's not a bad thing :) food was ok typical bar food burgers fries - we split the buffalo burger it was thin and possibly a frozen patty - nothing to aww about. Overall if we come here I would order drinks and maybe have some fries or eat else ware.

This review is for breakfast only. We had breakfast here and it was very good. Fast service, huge portions & friendly wait staff. I had the breakfast burrito and my hubs had an omelet. We had to inhale our food since we had to get to our boat tour. I would eat here again if I were to ever return to Catalina.

I don't care what any of you haters say, this place is amazeballs. First, don't get food here. Drink. And drink plenty. Perfect Island bar. Crowded. Strong drinks. Hilarious patrons. One key amazing factor was the band that was playing. Not sure if this is the band that plays there regularly, but the guitarist was wearing black satin pants, chains and a purple vest. Fun. He rocked it out and the music they played all night was perfect! Be sure and get the Wiki Wacker drink. Not sure what is in it other than rum and the fact that is goes down like water....well enough said. You also get a straw hat and bumper sticker for your boat. Drink, be merry and pass out. Then puke over the side of your boat the next morning. That's what I did. Thanks Wiki Larry. My liver thanks you too.

Things i tried: Luau sandwich Hot wings Food: The luau sandwich was alright. It was decent, but not the best. I guess because i was really hungry at that time that made it taste okay. The meat was kind of dry and it kind of seemed like they just slapped bbq sauce over it. Hot wings: 12 dollars for 9 pieces of wings. Dont think it was very much worth at it all. Tasted a lot better wings then this place. Atmosphere & Ambiance: Cute booths, cool paintings on the bathroom door. Looks like it could be a party place at night. Service: Had to flag down the waitress. But she was nice. Wouldnt really recomend this place. Im sure there are better places to eat on the island. Stars: 2.5

Luau Larry's was OK. We went in with intentions on grabbing a light lunch and a couple drinks. We succeeded in getting a couple drinks in a few minutes, and then we got menus. After ordering fries to share we waited a solid ten minutes for anyone to interact with us again and see if we wanted to order any food, both of our drinks were empty as well. While the drinks and the fries were good, the service was nearly poor. I know this is typically what is seen as par for the course on Avalon, but I want to feel appreciated at a restaurant if that makes any sense.

Luau Larry's has an interesting "tiki room" vibe which may not appeal to all, but I found the decor nice enough for what it was. Having been there twice, I found two problems with the place in particular. 1. The fish in their fish and chips are, from what I can tell, sourced from either Van De Kamp's or Gorton's. This is exceedingly puzzling - and disappointing - given that the place is on an island. If one can literally throw a stone into the ocean from a restaurant's front door, there is no excuse to have sub-par seafood. Note that this complaint doesn't extend to any other menu items (the burger I had on my first trip was pretty good). 2. Luau Larry's attracts a raucous crowd. Loud and obnoxious day-trippers and the like. On our last visit we ended up being seated next to a group of frat boys loudly acting as frat boy types tend to. Upon leaving, they were replaced with a group so large that they stole chairs from neighboring tables and blocked the way to the restrooms. Our previous visit attracted a similar crowd, so I don't think it was an isolated incident. If you can overlook these flaws, the food is otherwise fine and they do have a sizable drink menu. The second time we were there they had a live musician playing/singing classic rock on his guitar, and he was pretty good.

I was interested in finding out what "getting your wiki wacked" meant... It's a drink they make called the Wiki Wacker, and you get a hat or a sticker when you order one. We only drank, we ordered a Wiki Waker and a Buffalo Milk. The Wiki Waker was more of a Wiki Weaker :( It could have just been the bartender who made the drink weak, but our wiki was not wacked. The Buffalo Milk was yummy, it was like a banana shake. Our friends ordered one as well, and then she came out with 3 instead of 2. It seemed like our waitress was confused on how to take an order. The next day we came in and opted for beers, and watched some NFL games.

$8.95 for AYCE breakfast - you can't beat that when you're in catalina island. Best deal within the area since other places is around the same price if not more. Yes, the selection is limited: bacons, sausages, pancakse, mini breakfast burritos, waffles, scrambled eggs, potatoes, biscuits & gravy, cereals, pastries, and this mexican dish that i forgot what it's called - it's tortilla chips with seasoning and it's kinda spicy. Fresh fruits (orange, watermelon, cantaloupe)..and drinks are included: coffee, orange juice, milk, and cranberry juice.

TERRIBLE SERVICE. Pays attention to people at the bar only. Not even a "Hi! Welcome!" when my friends and I entered. Nothing. We didn't even end up ordering and left within 10 minutes. Prices seem a bit high, but then again, everything at Catalina Island is pricey.

I can't say much for the food as we didn't eat here but for drinks and live music we loved Luau Larry's (we have about 9 Wiki Wacker hats to prove it ;) Both nights that had a guy playing (with no intermission...that's one crazy long set!) popular rock hits...AC/CD, Bon Jovi etc that by the end of the night had people dancing! I loved the Wiki Wackers although the guy's in our group said they were too sweet and foo foo. I tried Buffalo Milk's elsewhere on the island but these were far the best. They tasted just like a banana milk shake with no alcohol (which could be a very good or bad thing). The bartenders were super friendly and gave everyone heavy pours!

Really enjoyed this place! Fun decor, right on the water front with good food and drinks. We just had their apps and drinks but both good! Staff and locals made the atmosphere and the Buffalo Milk was great! You can always try getting your 45oz wicky whacked for a blurry afternoon. Give this place a try!

I don't know what happened. I came to Luau Larry's last year (after a much too cold snorkeling excursion in MARCH). :/ i know....and it was fantastic. The fish and chips were great-- the coffee and baileys- perfectly cooked. This time around, we got the Cobb salad, the ahi tuna burger and the fish and chips. The cobb salad, literally was a head of lettuce, with some tomatoes, and some chopped up pieces of turkey meat from Ralphs. If you're charging so much for this salad, you should really put more in it no? The ahi tuna burger was good, but the bun stuck out because the fish was so delicious. Make sure that all ingredients for the item is on par -- and I was famished! Lastly, the fish and chips were overly breaded, and not as succulent and heavenly as I remembered it to be last time. I was with a friend with diabetes, and the waitress seemed perturbed when I asked her if there was anything with no sugar in it--- please be ready to accommodate ALL customers, especially ones with specific health needs. After all was said and done, the 60 dollar plus check just didn't seem to do the meal justice. Sorry Luau Larry.... I'm going to the Lobster Trap instead. good food, better prices....

Last weekend I went to Luau's 3 times in one day... hahaha. Lunch, dinner, and late night. It's definitely our hangout spot. The people who work there are absolutely awesome, each with a wonderful characteristic personality! Bartenders make drinks to kill! Haha. It's totally awesome here. Gill is the performer at Luau's and there aren't enough good things that can be said about him. Just go see for yourself!

Came here on a Thursday night (11.9.12) at around 6 pm. Due to rain, there wasn't many outside activities to do, so my boyfriend and I decided to have an early dinner at Luau Larry's as it seemed like a great place to have a small bite and a drink. We unfortunately started out on a bad note, for as soon as we walked in we were told to seat ourselves, and the man at the bar was rude to my boyfriend. He said something along the lines of "Grab a menu for yourself and your lady right now, otherwise she's going to be pissed." I'm not sure if he was trying to be funny, but in saying it without a smile, if left a sour note in my mouth that stuck with me through our dining experience. The tables are large, with great amount of seating for a group of 6 comfortably per table. I can say that as a pro for this establishment, but that's about it. It took the gentleman at the bar, who seemed to be running the bar, taking orders and bringing out food all by himself, a good 9-12 minutes to walk over to us (at the table right across from him on a slow night with just two groups sitting down) and take our order. The gentleman offered to take our drink order first, and when my boyfriend listed what he wanted to drink, the waiter told him that he would not like that drink, and that proceeded to list off his own recommendations. I'm sorry, but what waiter (maybe owner?) tells a customer what they will and won't like off their own menu? My boyfriend got the wacky drink at his recommendation...a drink that was meant to come with a hat or sticker, my boyfriend was not offered either but paid the outrageous price for it anyways in the bill. LUAU LARRY'S DOES NOT CARD FOR ALCOHOL. We are 23 and 26 respectively, and we not asked for our ID's once. The waiter did not card any other guests that came in and ordered drinks while we were there either. We ordered the appetizer platter that cost $16 for two chicken wings, three poppers, two fried cheese sticks, and five onion rings. WIth only two other groups seated, and two gentleman having beer at the bar, it took 32 minutes from the moment we placed our order to when we received our food. 32 minutes. The waiter did not apologize for the wait once, and while he didn't refill our waters, seeing that they were empty, kept pushing for us to buy more alcohol. No thanks. The food was cold, and the onion rings were not only still partially frozen, but three of the five had water come out of them instead of oil. I've never had that happen and I buy onion rings all the time. I'm not sure if that is because they were frozen and not put in the oil long enough or what, but it was really strange. This was the only food we had there, but this specific menu option tastes like they bought frozen food and simply dropped it in the fryer for too short of time. Nothing was fresh, not even the old lettuce that was browning, that was placed under the store bought frozen food. All in all, it took around an hour and 45 minutes for us to place our order, receive our food & bill, and be able to walk out. Not once was our water filled, not once did our waiter ask to give us anything other than alcohol, not once were we offered the hat that was meant to be given with the drink order, and yet we were insulted three different times. I'm hoping it was just a bad night, and that this place isn't always like this. I'm sure if you're in a big group you can make your own entertainment and have a great time, but if you're a couple or a family, be prepared for extremely slow service, having to walk up to the bar to ask for your bill, and in our case have rude service. We don't go to Catalina often, but when we do, from now on we will not be dining at Luau Larry's.

I spilled my drink every where and the waiter replaced my Wiki Wacker (alcoholic) drink! That was so nice and not required. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate my clumsiness. The atmosphere and decorations are creative and very island themed, obviously since they are on an island. Their service was friendly, outgoing, and responsive. Their food was good. It is a small island and not many reputable places for good cuisine so Luau Larry's is a place to get decent food at an affordable price while enjoying yourself with their island themed decor. I recommend Luau Larry's to anyone visiting the island.

We had drinks only here and they're a little more pricey here than at the Lobster Trap- $6 vs $4. It's not bad if you wanna sit at the bar & also look at the beach. BUT if you want good drinks, just go to the Lobster Trap- they got a full bar and are less expensive! There are 3 TVs with football, so that helped.

3.5 stars, rounded up. Because it is probably the only restaurant in Catalina that I wouldn't mind making a return trip to. The lure of live music on our first night in Catalina drew us into Luau Larry's...also, one of us really wanted the bread bowl clam chowder (~$7) and this place had it. It wasn't a big bowl, but the bread really fills you up. The atmosphere was fun, they had an one man band sing and he was actually pretty good! Prices are comparable to other restaurants, I got myself a buffalo burger (~$11) because there are actual buffalos on the island! The burger was huge and came with a side of fries. We didn't do the tourist thing with the wiki wacker, BUT, my friend did try the buffalo milk! He said it tasted like milk shake, way too sweet to finish on his own, and didn't enjoy it that much...They also have Blue Moon on tap! And a pretty good selection of mixed drinks and beer. We slipped in right before the crowd, so we got pretty good service. Seemed like there was only 1 server on duty.

Had fried zucchini to start, very bad, watery, all breading falls off when bit into. Had a guacamole burger, just ok. Tried their signature drink, the wickiwhacker, it was a bit sour and off. This coming from a not too picky guy.

The place is loud and the day I stopped in for lunch, the football games were on so there were a ton of people at the bar busy being drunk and cheering the game on. I sat at the bar too so I could keep an eye on my bike parked just outside and got to talk a bit to the friendly folks. The bartender was super friendly and attentive to everyone. The food there was surprisingly excellent. I drooled over some other customer's buffalo burger. When my own fish and chips came, my eyes filled with happiness. Three fillets of thinly breaded cod, cooked to perfection. The best fried fish fillet I've ever had. I loved their cole slaw that came with the fish and chips. There were a medley of other veggies mixed in with the standard cabbage in a very light dressing. Yummy. I could have a giant serving of that cole slaw and been happy. Overall, a great place to go to for atmosphere, food, and drinks!

I couldn't help but think of Balki's cousin Larry from Perfect Strangers wearing a grass mini hula skirt every time I walked by this place....so I had to go in at least once..... So my poor allergy prone but adorable baby girl had not eaten dinner yet....and I was in search of some plain 'ol grilled chicken breast to provide her necessary sustenance. Luau Larry's is practically attached to Pavilion Lodge so I swing by here first....wouldntcha know it.....they also have a bar! imagine that..... It's a Monday night so there's only 1 couple at the restaurant enjoying their food and a fellow lone boozer at the bar drinking himself to happiness. I briefly consider getting that wiki wacker and wearing that ridiculous hat....then I realize I'm not sh*tfaced or mentally incapacitated (just mildly) and simply opt for a cerveza. The Sam Adams is cold and reasonably priced ($4) and I drink it sloooow to savor the brew. I order the chicken breast from the friendly bartender and he is VERY helpful when it comes to making sure the chicken is not prepared with any dairy (my daughter's allergic) He even has the cooks cut up the breast for my baby AND gives me a discount on the bill! My daughter eats it up happily (no allergic reaction) and ALL is well on Avalon...for the time being....hey what ever happened to Bronson Pinchot....Bring Back Balki Bartokomous! I smell a comeback!

Big fan of this place. Had a really good experience so we kept coming back. Being from Hawaii i do have a recommendation for the Poke. Use sushi rice, not uncle bens style. That stuff is not supposed to fall apart while you eat, The tower of rice is meant to support the scoops of Ahi you pick up. Also, dont go cheap on the plate. You make a beautiful presentation but you use paper cups for the soy sauce lol. Invest in some cheap ceramic soy bowls and throw some avocado on that bad boy beneath the Ahi. I promise you, i grew up on these Ahi towers. I know my stuff =) It was delicious tho, so kudos guys. Bartender was rad, took good care of us and we met some very friendly locals Sally and Kirk and I think Jason? who let us use their Golf Cart. Catalina rules

I have only ever drank here, it was good, the wiki wacker is a really fun drink...must get it while on the island!! It comes with a hat and a bumper sticker. I have never had the food, but the service is always decent and the location can't really be beat :)

There was no sign of the rowdy happening bar we expected to find.... Stopped by at 5 pm on Thursday night it was dead and empty so we skipped it. Came back at 1 pm on Friday for lunch. It was half empty and not much going on. Ordered the buffalo burger -- it was decent but a little dry. Also tried the swordfish taco. Overall visit was pretty average and low key.

I forgot some parts of the evening but the locals reminded me as I walked the streets of Avalon the next morning. I blame the awesome Wiki Wacky's; order one and they give you a straw hat. Order several more like me and you'll be stumbling back to your hotel, but happy. It is a fun place to hang out so here's a bit more on the place. Luau Larry's is open day and night for food and great drinks. The drinks are perfectly made (bartender knows his drinks too), the food is good (your average fare), the atmosphere is festive, and the lighting is perfect for us drinkers (perfectly dim). Anyone on yelp that complains about the drink prices doesn't get that you are right next to a beach and the drinks are not made with water. Avalon IS pricey so expect that everywhere here. Great music (most of the time as a one man band and not to loud so you can easily talk to everyone), dance floor which was well used by 1/4 of the people there, several comfortable booths and good bar seating (everything is kept in good shape). This is the type of bar were locals and visitors mix it up and have a great time. If you're lucky enough you'll run into Tom, a local who writes vivid poetry about the Island of Catalina and has some fun stories. LL's is right next to the Pavilion Hotel (so its next to the beach). Now this was perfect for me because I don't think I could've stumbled any farther to get back to my hotel. I give it a full 5 stars because of all the reasons above and it is one of the most happenin' party bars in Avalon. Drink well my friends, have a great time, and be safe.

My wife and I visited Catalina on a stop from a Carnival Cruise ship. Catalina was the best stop on the cruise and Luau Larry's was the my favorite place we visited that day. The island decor was not too over done and the seeting confortable. The service was propmt even though the place was almost full. We each had the Green Flash IPA beer and I tried the Buffalo Burger with sweet potato fries. They all were excellent and worked very well together. You have to try the buffalo burger. I ordered it medium rare and they got it exactly right. Buffalo can be too lean for a burger but this one was jucy yet not greasy. The meat paddy was thick and large enough to justify the $11 cost for the plate It came with the right fixings and proper sized bun for paddy. Luau Larry's is deffinitly desirving a second visit.

Went here at night. Cool spot to have drinks and listen to the one man band. I enjoyed the variety of music he played and I definitely had fun singing along to a couple of songs. Drinks- 5 stars I got my wiki whacked and some. Service - 5 stars very friendly and fast service Food- 4 stars it was good but that's it overall 3 stars based on the fact that the girls restroom was out of order and I had to use the men's restroom that was really gross!!!! ewww!! Also remember this is a bar and people come here to get "wiki whacked" drunk so if loud drunk people dancing for you is not your thing skip this place at night lol I enjoyed it.

Had a great time at Luau Larry's - live band was awesome! They sang a bunch of 80's music...they did need some help when someone requested Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me" but they bravely tried it out! Ordered (2) girly wiki wacker drinks to get the straw hat - but they ran out - so no pix w/ the hat - boooooooo. BUT, they redeemed themselves with a juicy Buffalo burger - yes! And then they killed us with this spicy oyster shooter that used Pepper Flavored Vodka (see pix for before & after).

Went here for lunch after arriving on the island. Ordered a Buffalo Burger that was ok, but the meat was a bit dry and couldn't taste much of the meat's flavor (the fritters, red onion slices, and sauce masked the meat flavor). Should've known that it was listed as a special for $11.95 (typically is $14.95), which probably meant that they were trying to rid of their buffalo meat inventory. I was hungry anyway. The clam chowder in sourdough bread bowl for $8.95 was a better choice. The amount of clams was decent and the chowder was quite rich. The sourdough bread tasted better than I expected. Service was ok.

Bar with some character. And surprisingly the fish tacos were pretty good. It gets hot in here, especially if you're hanging out in the back where the caves are. Good drinks and decent music. There's not many bars on the island, but this one of the good ones.

Great drinks (buffalo mudslide), great live music. Went in with a bunch of friends and the place was packed. Make sure you make it to LL if ur on the island.

Best restaurant/hang out on catalina island! We were only on the island for 2 days and we came here once each day. Omar and Juan are great bartenders/servers. We had buffalo burgers from other places on the island but Luau Larry's was the best! It has fried shoestring onions, it is just amazing. The drinks are great also, I had a great Bloody Mary and my boyfriend had a drink called Bong Water which he loved. The drinks were $9 each which was a great price to me considering how much everything else on the island costs. Tv's for sports, oceanfront bar, great food, great drinks, great service, what more could you want?? Luau Larry's is the place to be!!

Went to Luau Larry's on the last day of a four day weekend. It seems to be a GREAT place to get hammered- especially with the Wiki Wackers, but even sober it was good. It was quiet when we went in, which is probably when you'd want to eat in there. Our server was super nice and the burger was delicious. We both got the Hamburger Haole- it comes with a big steak knife driven through the sandwich and we loved it. Juicy, cooked right, crunchy onion rings. I think I would hate it at peak drunk hours, but nice otherwise.

Was just in Catalina for a night with some friends... and decided I'm going to review every single place we went to. Luau Larry's was probably the worst place out of all the bars we visited. We came in for dinner and were sat right away (1 star), asked for water which we finished before they could even ask for our order, it took 3 times for the waitress to finally get us more water. We also got a couple of drinks but our main priority was the water. (all the on a boat... you can imagine). We order our food (2 burgers, a sandwich and a french dip) and they come to the table in no more than 3 minutes. Of course that led us to believe they were already cooked (which they were), and all 4 of the meals were cold. Once we were done, it took a lot of waving our arms around and standing up for the waitress to see us, finally my friend gets up, walks over to her and literally scares her (she was zoning out). One last negative thing before I get into the other positive one, They had an open window right above us and it was freezing, we were so cold it was uncomfortable. Second star goes to the music, decent singer, lots of classics that everybody love, he was pretty good.

We got Wiki Wacked! Love their strong, delicious drinks and their tasty buffalo burger! Cool atmosphere and a fun place to eat, drink, and get your Wiki on!

I recommend grabbing a drink here. The drinks are strong and I was obsessed with the Wiki-wacker because you get a complimentary hat (or sticker, but get the hat) with your drink. It's a fun concept. I loved the relaxed vibe of the joint, just the staff seemed to be PMSing (even the guys).

I'll just state this up front: I love tiki bars. Let me repeat, I {less than symbol} 3 tiki bars. That being out there, I liked Larry's because it has all the right stuff. Firstly, it's on an actual island. Secondly, it has bamboo and palm fronds all over the interior. Thirdly, they have a cave inside that you can actually sit in. Fourthly, it is facing the ocean. Fifthly, they serve very strong, very sweet drinks in large glasses. Sixthly, you can get a silly hat for ordering one of those drinks. I was on Catalina during the off-season and in the middle of the week, so each night I had the place almost to myself. This was OK with me. I imagine that if you had a bunch of drunk cruise-goers in here on a hot day it might not be so special, but that's not Larry's fault. Bottom line: a tiki bar on an island an hour from LA. Win.

Luau Larry's is definitely a pretty happening place, especially at night. As other have said, there is a nice mix of locals and touristas. I liked the one man band, who works six nights a week and has quite a playlist. Some of which I thought me played very well, good enough to warrant a tip from me. I got lucky and scored the front table, which is a great spot to people watch from. A lot of people just hang out in front just to listen to the music and check out the scene inside. I had the Buffalo burger, which was fine. Price wasn't bad by Avalon standards. Weakest link in Luau Larry's chain was the waitress - she did her job, but that was about it.

I really enjoyed myself here. The Wiki Wacker cocktail is a sneaky little drink, you definitely cant taste the booze but you can feel it. The free hat with purchase of the drink up'ed the fun level. The food here was really good as well. We ordered the Buffalo Burger and a Swordfish Taco, both on special, and both delicious. Service was acceptable, not bad, not great...average, but average is fine with me, especially with a Wiki Wacker in me. Just have fun, be a goofy tourist.

Cool spot to have some drinks and apps. We went there during the day so it was not that busy. We walked by the same night and the place was packed! Place was blasting with fun music, and people having lots of fun. "Wacked the wiki" for the win! Fun times..

The fun bar on Catalina. It's where we kick off our pub crawl every year and it is a must. It's kitschy but worth a pop in. PLUS, you get a free straw hat when you get a wicki wacker and that's important for blocking those dangerous UV rays when you pass out on the beach or a bench outside. Oh, I've never tried food here.

After landing at the Avalon port, I had some time to kill til my friends got to the island. I'd made a new friend on the boat to Catalina and he asked me to join him for a drink - we ended up at Luau Larry's. Pretty rowdy place already by 2pm. It was loud, it was fun, and the drinks were pretty good. Ken's Punch is the way to go. Our waitress was a bit of a dummy. My new friend asked if they had Oysters Rockefeller, and she was quick to say yes. I then saw her go behind the counter and ask her co-worker what they were. She came back quickly to say she was mistaken and that it was the previous place she worked at that had Rockefeller, and she was confused (nice attempt at recovery). Then my buddy asked if their oysters were steamed. She again was quick to say yes. And when she served them, they were not steamed at all. I knew they'd come out raw and I was happy with that. But my new friend was expecting steamed oysters since that's what the waitress said he was getting. We didn't say anything because we felt bad for her. Poor girl - so dumb but so sweet. The place is cool though with its tiki theme and random mariachi band. The place was packed both with people and luggage. It seemed to be the first stop off the boat for a lot of people and everyone was having a great time.

Was at Catalina Island, and wanted to try the buffalo. Decided to try Luau Larry's since it was most affordable, and actually open for lunch. Ordered the buffalo burger and the fish'n'chips. FOOD (3 stars): - Buffalo burger: Was pretty big. Would recommend taking out some of the veggies and eating them on the side. All in all, the burger was pretty good, but nothing amazing. Taste of the buffalo meat, itself, was interesting--slightly gamier than beef, but nowhere near as gamey as lamb or goat. - Fish'n'chips: There was something about either the batter or the frying oil that gave the fish an unsettling sweet/fruity taste, which I wasn't fond of. The salad that was included had an awesome vinaigrette, but I couldn't enjoy it due to an odd bitterness of the actual salad. SERVICE (Up to 4 stars): - Kitchen timed the food well-- all orders of a particular party came out at the same time - The singular waitress there was very attentive. Always checked up on us frequently, and water was always refilled. OVERALL: A decently priced (considering that it is on a tourist island) and quaint establishment that's good for trying Catalina's buffalo burger. Doesn't offer anything I would return to satiate a craving for, but the service is up to par and much appreciated.

Luau Larry's has a great chowder bread bowl! The coconut shrimp and the fish and chips were great as well. It's a small location and a little pricey but I think for the location it was pretty reasonable. Other customers were raving about their cocktails so we might have to go back some day without the kids in tow!

Luau Larry's sucks. - When my friends and I came in, no one led us to a table or served us. - No one served the table next to us either. - They only pay attention to the people at the bar. - Waited for about 10 minutes and then left - The group next to my table stayed but had to stand up and look around for a waiter.

We picked Larry's at random on our first day in Avalon, and then came back again, so take this review for what it's worth. We loved the drinks, atmosphere, music selection and our bartender. A really great place to tip a few. The food was average, but their burgers are better than most. I also had the grilled Ahi, which I would not reccomend, as the Ahi they used was definitely at the lower end of the sushi grade. Next time I am in Avalon, I would go back, just because it was a lot of fun.

Love this place, was just there yesterday...twice in one day! Go here if you want to get your wickie wacked? In other words, you get a funny straw hat with the purchase of specific cocktail. I had the BEST bloody mary here. They make their mix every day. The Bartender was Johnny. Really nice, professional and personable. He's a local so it was nice talking to him about the island. Yummy sweet potato fries. A bit on the crispy side but I like it =) I'll be back next time we're here.

A round of wiki wackers definitely got this party started. And you get a hat with it too!! We were able to squeeze 12 of us in the back of the bar. I like the kinds of tropical drinks they make here. However, every time we needed a refill we had to flag down our server. This place was not very busy, and we're a group of 12 ready to spend money, and a lot of it. Better service would have been more pleasant.

Overrated, but a Catalina staple. I went in pretty much only for the straw hat that they give you when you order a wicki wacker. The drink was good. Buffalo milk, the Catalina local drink is served here and is pretty good. Also ordered the hot wings. which were good and spicy, but really gave us heartburn. My favorite had to be the bison burger. they did a great job with it. Don't worry, the bison on the island aren't allowed to be killed for any reason - the burger is shipped in from Wisconsin. If you're on Catalina, you need to go here. It's a staple and a given.

Simple place for a drink and a few appetizers. Nice setting. The service was ok, the waitress was really slow with getting back to us. Not much room for sitting, we had to sit up against the bathroom corner. Our drinks were good, but the wings were a disappointment. We had to dip the hot sauce on the wings and of course, it didn't stay on too well. The chicken was fried and dried.

You have to get the Wacky Wicker and roam around the island in that goofy ha! The bf and I came here twice while on the island. Once after a fun adventure of snorkeling and another time on our final day on Avalon. We did the $25 drink deal both times that we came which is a massive cocktail in a huge glass. Enough for two and trust me LOTS OF FUN.. We didn't order a meal but we did decide on curly fries. Service was good, the fries were good, the people here are a lot of fun and perfect for people watching. Yes, it's OK to bring your family. They have a menu serving tons of kid friendly meals. The list of cocktails is interesting. The BF on our final day had me try one of the shots they have here called "BONG WATER".. Ummmmm ?? I am not a fan of shots so I sipped and gave the rest to him..

This rating is for the drinks and overall atmosphere. I like it. It's a tiki hut like bar with ok service. The drinks are strong and it's right by the beach. I haven't tried their food and I probably still won't because it's a bar by the beach, hello! Just stick to drinking and catch a live gig on their 1 person stage.

I'm giving this place 4 stars because I think it's definitely one of the best bars on Catalina Island. I went here on a Saturday night and there was live music (played mostly rock). The atmosphere was loud and fun. Whether the people were locals or tourists, the crowd was really friendly. The bartenders were very accommodating and nice, my friend and I never had to wait long when ordering our drinks. I recommend ordering the WIKI WACKER drink, it's fruity but very strong. The wiki wacker is a cocktail that consists of rum, brandy, pineapple/orange juice, and grenadine. You get a free straw hat and sticker with the drink!

My wife and I took our first trip to Catalina a couple weeks back. First place we stop at to eat/drink after arriving is Luau Larry's. Loved the music (rock), although a bit loud for the afternoon time. Had the swordfish sandwich, wife had the ahi tuna sandwich. Both were exceptional, although rather expensive for sandwiches at around $ 18.00 a pop. So why the single star??? The waitress STOLE from me! My bill came up to $ 90.62, and I graciously left her a $ 14.00 tip (even though half that bill came from the drinks), for a total bill of $ 104.62. After returning to the mainland and getting my credit card statement, I found that I was charged $ 230.62!!! Seems that the waitress took upon herself to add a ZERO to her $ 14.00, giving herself a $ 140.00 tip!!! Some could say that it may have been an oversight, but not only was the tip amount changed, but the total would've had to have 3 of the digits changed to arrive at $ 230 vs. $ 104. Thankfully, I got in touch with a manager who researched the situation and discovered the nature of the problem. He arranged to credit me the difference, although I thought he should credit me the entire tip at least for my trouble and time spent rectifying it. I realize that there's not that many places to eat on Catalina, and several of the restaurants have the same ownership. However, in any business climate, nobody needs employees who steal, let alone steal from its customers! It's a small town, everybody probably knows everybody there, and I think the waitress should be reprimanded. She doesn't need to supplement her high cost of living the island life by stealing from me! The manager stopped short of saying that they would be firing her. I surely hope they're not in cahoots and have a racket going with trying to catch people not auditing their credit card statements. I'm sure they could clean up from many unsuspecting patrons if that be the case.

Had a blast here! Drinks are good and strong, bartenders are attentive! Got a wiki whack of course. It definitely gave me a buzz. We didn't order food, but the menu did look tempting. We just loved the ambiance and people watching. Only one complaint, the stupid drunk chick at the bar I wanted to punch in the face, but thats typical I guess. Theres always one! I was really impressed that the bartenders handled her atrocities with ease. Cheers! We will be back

We were looking for a place to grab a bite to eat after taking the Catalina Express to Catalina Island. The place was playing music (which caught our attention) and looked like an open, fun spot so we gave it a try. I ordered the swordfish sandwich, which was pretty darn good. The fish was fresh and the sandwich was tasty. My hubby ordered the buffalo burger and was quite pleased. The fries are absolutely to die for. Now to the drinks, the WIKI WACKER is a drink that will definitely get you buzzed. You have to get your Wiki Wacked when visiting Catalina Island!!! It is super good and gives you that warm fuzzy feeling:-) You also get a hat or sticker with the purchase of the drink. This place ROCKS. Oh, the service was really good as well.

If you're in Catalina, this is a place you must stop by to get a hat and your wiki wacked! The wiki wacker is a libation that contains rum, brandy, pineapple/orange juice and grenadine, it's pretty strong... and you will also get the hat and the sticker that says I got my wiki wacked at Luau Larry's...Bartenders are nice and friendly there too.

If you want a six dollar hotdog, eat here. If you don't, then have a 3 dollar chilidog at Coney Island West. This place is expensive but typical for these types of tourist destinations. They give you 10 buffalo wings for 12 dollars. The taste was the same as those that you will get at Applebees. You decide.

We were only on Catalina for about 30 hours, and I think we spent about half of that time here at Luau Larry's! Awesome drinks and great breakfast burritos. If you're looking for a fun, casual bar - this is the place!

I wasn't wowed. I was just "meh" about this place as nothing tasted extraordinary or had any aethestically pleasing features that made me feel as if I were really on an island. They did; however, have some cheesey paintings of island-esque pictorials on the wall which compensated for the somewhat old, musky interior. First meal I had was the Gardenburger. Twas a big disappointment. I mean. I know, it's just a Gardenburger, but I've tried better ones elsewhere. This patty just didn't have a kick to it. No seasoning. Very mush like. Blah. No plastic ring in a cracker jack box surprpise. As for my second visit, I made a much better selection. Fish and chips! The fish were nothing too special, but they were good enough to feel as if I had my share of seafood on the island. The filets were fried to a deep golden yellow and served with a nice tartar sauce. I couldn't help, but scrape the rest of the sauce w/ the fries. That's how good it was. As this was my last night on the island, I also picked up a strawberry daiquiri. Disappointing to say the least. The alcohol tasted watered down and there wasn't too much of a fruit flavor in the drink. The verdict: Meh. Good, but not memorable enough to come back.

We went here for the breakfast buffet for $8.95 for adults. Not a bad deal as their food was pretty good. Their bacon was nice and crispy and not fatty, like you'd find at other places. They also had sausages, eggs, breakfast burritos, biscuits, waffles, pastries, and cereal. For beverages, they have coffee, orange juice, raspberry juice, and milk. The place IS a little small, though. That is about the only downside. Otherwise, this is a great value especially considering the cost of other things on Catalina Island. I can't remember what time the buffet starts (maybe 10AM?) but it ends at noon.

3.5 mainly because I felt so closed off when I went in. There's no outdoor patio. But the service was good, live music, and nice place to take a load off at the end of the day. Compared to Pedro's Buffalo Milk, theirs was much bigger, but I'm undecided if it was tastier.

Best Sword Fish Tacos Ever!!! I had two plus a really great drink. This was my favorite place that I visited there. We went at night. There was a musician there tearing up his guitar and people were dancing all night. It was a really cool environment and the staff was very attentive. My family ordered the clam chowder bowl which was also very good. If I ever go back to Catalina I'll have to go back.

I hate to give bad reviews, but see it as a duty when necessary. Friday, 10/14/11, around 6:00 PM. Instead of a "Hi, welcome to Larry's ..." or some such greeting, we were hit with "NO BATHROOM!" shouted from both the bartender and a server. Okay, so your bathroom isn't working. Right, we get that. But, how about letting us order a drink or a nosh before BLARING at us like we were bums looking for a handout? When we turned to walk out, you told us, "bathrooms are OUT all over downtown." You should have checked your source for that news flash, Scooter. Bathrooms were working next door AND across the street. Maybe you were having a bad day or perhaps you were at the end of your shift. Regardless, you WOULD have made a mint in tips with this group. Suggestion: You MIGHT have started with, "we're happy to have you here, but you'll have to go across the street for the facilities; sorry for the inconvenience." We all have our burdens. But, we all don't take it out on the clientele. Get a clue. It's NOT as if you're the only club in town - all of which were bursting at the seams with happy customers!

As a fan of tiki bars - I always enjoy spending some quality time at Luau Larry's when in Catalina. Although I wouldn't recommend heading here for a meal - their drinks are good and STRONG. And you have to try their Wiki Wacker at least once - if for no other reason so you can get the sticker or the straw hat. Oh - and the best seat in the house is the booth at the front, overlooking the main drag. You can sit here for hours people watching, enjoying tropical drinks, and losing track of time.

My bf and I came here because it looked like the hot spot to be in avalon. Always has a lot of people in it and I was craving clam chowder (the place on the pier was already closed, which was our original plan). This is a very small place so definitely not good for big groups. When we walked in the bartender said we could sit anywhere (we had to ask, would have been nice if someone said we could. although a lot of restaurants in avalon are like this). My bf ordered the "wicki whacker" drink which came with a free hat. That was nice and funny. We wanted to order oyster shooters and the waitress said they were already out (6:30pm at night). We then ordered our food. I ordered the clam chowder bowl and my bf ordered the pepperoni pizza. We waited about 40 min when the waitress finally came out and told us they ran out of pizza dough! How does this happen?! I don't even know. They couldn't have told us this when we made our order?! The clam chowder is decent. Not that much bread in the bowl to eat with the chowder. The burger ok too, nothing spectacular. At least the place was conveniently located next to our hotel. If u want to come here, come before 6:30pm.

EEK, is right on for this one... You have to be so drunk that your glands are salivating alcohol to be able to sustain this awful place. We walked in and took a seat and ordered up a cheeseburger ($8.50) Tuna melt ($8.50) and some cocktails. A few minutes later the waitress came out with three cheeseburgers and a tuna melt. After explaining that we only ordered two and getting her attitude and hand on hip, "I heard three" we tore in. The patty on the burger was a flat, hard, hockey puck that deserved to be thrown at our little waitress and the tuna melt shouldn't even be described as such. It was nasty, fishy, and the worst tuna melt ever. The only saving grace were the drinks and the guitar player. Way better places to play on the island, man.

Luau Larry is a bar/mexican food place with live music serving stiff drinks. Their shctick is this one drink that comes with a corny and touristy straw hat. Of COURSE I got one. And many other drinks as well. There was this one drink called the "Gummy" bear that actually tasted like it. Great small bar.

Great food. I ordered the bacon burger and it was better then I had expected. My beef is with the waitress. She was dumb, rude and too consumed with talking to her coworker, we never got any service. We literally had to flag her down for everything! Even things as simple as napkins. Towards the end when it came to tipping she managed to come around more and stood near awkwardly waiting on some hearty tip she wasn't going to get. This place has potential to be good but the service needs an upgrade.

Ah, Luau Larry's. Come for the faux-tropical drinks, stay for the faux-tropical drinks. The cocktails are overly sweet and not super-complex, but they're the main reason I come as nobody else on the island dabbles in the faux-tropics as heartily. LL is also a good place to have a cheap lunch ala hot chips & salsa and grilled swordfish tacos. I prefer to go here in the day as it gets REALLY LOUD at night with Karaoke, but if you like a party, LL's is a sure bet.

Over priced for what they offer. Not the best on the island despite it being well known. That's due to it's location, but browse around and you'll be happy you did as you'll find many better options for dining.

Five stars based on the genre and neighboring options. Avalon has a row of what would be considered "dive bars" on the "mainland". And over several visits to Avalon - Luau Larry's deserves top honors - and funny thing is we had not stopped in Luau Larry's on previous visits. Our party of 7 sat at a table in the back - the staff was super conscientious in helping us move the table around to keep us out of the sky-light sunlight - we were ready for some shade. (Hot weekend in Avalon!) Our server was Megan - she was so personable and friendly! Gave us lots of honest answers and good grief - we bombarded her with questions! Our group enjoyed our cocktails, beer, wine and food! Highly recommend the swordfish tacos, fresh made tortilla chips, onion rings, and garden burger. No body was disappointed! Sure the place is a dive bar - but restrooms were clean, service was EXCELLENT, food was yummy- hot and fresh! Next time we go to Catalina we WILL return to Luau Larry's! Already craving those swordfish tacos!

Overall enjoyed this place. The couple we were with said the fish & chips were good. I wouldn't really recommend eating breakfast here but lunch items aren't bad. Drinks are tasty but a little over priced.

Bad service, average food, didn't get water, ticket was giving in the middle of us eating (and we wanted more drinks and dessert). Jolene was our server, but she was more busy checking her phone in the kitchen that giving us a decent experience.

This place was horrible. My friend and I got to Catalina and wanted to eat a hearty breakfast. All the neighboring places were full, so we went into Luau Larry's. Like somebody else already pointed out there is no sign if you can seat yourself or not. So we went in and found a cute cove with a table large enough for about four people. We went in making sure to let the waitstaff know we arrived. The table was still covered with dirty dishes from the previous guests. It took about 5 mins for the waiter to show up and clean up the dishes, but he didn't get us any menus. Another 10 mins passed before he came back. Before we actually got our food, over 45 mins had passed. We had hash browns and huevo rancheros and two bloody marys. The drinks were ok, but the food was horrible. I have never eaten anything that bland and greasy. Only hunger made me eat this. The hash browns needed to be drowned in salt and ketchup to even resemble something potato like. When we asked for the bill it took forever but at least they didn't charge us for the drinks. Not sure if it was an overlook (wouldn't be surprised) or if they actually realized how much the food and service sucked.

Got my wiki wacked @ Luau Larry!!! It was 10pm and my boyfriend and I decided to hit up Larry to get some drinks! Of course, I got the wiki wack drink which came with wiki wack hat and sticker. The drink was okay... I was expecting super strong drink...more sweet and strong IMO. Ordered popcorn shrimp which was delicious! didn't expect it to be that good. It was lighly batter and the shrimp was well cleaned too. The teriyaki cole slaw that came with it was good too. Then, came the buffalo burger! It was pretty big than i expected it to be! For $11 you can't beat that price @ Catalina! The buffalo was really lean and juicy, I really enjoyed it! I wish I can order one right now!!

Came during the day and had a mango mojito that didn't taste right. Must get the wiki whacked drink, you'll get a free hat or sticker. Kids were coming in buying these hats for five dollars. Great to use while under the sun. Nothing about the food we ordered stood out to me. Cool place to hang out for drinks.

We stopped in to Luau Larry's on Monday 8/3, we had been out on our beach towels across the sidewalk and needed to get out of the heat and get a cold drink. There are a few tables that are directly in front of the open window to the sidewalk, but we just missed the last one. Seated ourselves, the waitress came and took our drink order quickly, we ordered 2 Blended Mango Margaritas. About 1/3 of the way into mine, I got a piece of metal in my mouth. It kind of looked like a staple or metal shaving. I stirred up my drink with the straw and saw a few more floating around there. I checked my husbands drink and he had a few of these metal slivers in his drink too. We called the waitress over (she was eating lunch, on her cell and sort of kissing her boyfriend in between working) and let her know, and the bartender (girl with shoulder length brown hair) came over and was very apologetic. We got new drinks right away, on the house. In a few minutes, the bartender came back and said she spoke to the manager and wanted to get us something more than a free drink, and offerered us lunch, appetizers, whatever we wanted. Having had lunch not too long ago, my husband just ordered the buffalo wings. If they weren't free, we'd have sent them back. They were really dry and over fried. But, they were free, and the point is that the bartender was going over and above to make up for the mishap. We ordered 2 more drinks, and I didn't think those would be free. But when we asked for our bill, the waitress said we had no bill, at all. So they really made up for the metal in the drinks. We came to the conclusion with the bartender that the metal was from the Brillo pads they use to clean the bar, and that the closing bartender the night before had probably cleaned out the inside of the blender with one, and a few of the mesh/metal things from the pad got caught on the blade inside the blender. It wouldn't have killed us, but it would not have been great to swallow metal. Worse things have happened. I had also called before we arrived to see if they had a champagne brunch, and was told that they do have a brunch buffet, but with champagne, that would be charged extra. We did not make it in for that, but might try it out in the future. It looked like it would be fun for drinks at night, but try and avoid the fried fare (not eay to do!), because they REALLY fry it. Margarita/Mojito prices were about $8, the wings would have been about $11, prices weren't too bad. But of course we didn't pay for anything but a tip so that was great :)

Not very good. Beers were bitter and the food was either tasteless (French dip) or too spicy to eat (ahi tuna salad). Too pricy for what it is, better options on the boardwalk.

This is a cool place to have some drinks but the $9 for the wiki hat and drink were not worth it. I'm not sure about the food as we had none. We might go back here again to give it another go just not for the $9 hat/drink combo.

This place is Rockin.... its probably most famous for its tiki straw hats they give out with every "Wiki Wacker drink" I GOT MINES..... great barfood/seafood here, on top of drinks and music. This spot does stand out from the other store front shops on the beach and rightfully so its a fun place to eat drink and people watch on a busy day.

I WISH i knew our waitress' name. Let's describe her: pretty, tall brunette with long hair, pink nikes on, grew on on the island and is getting her masters on the main land LOL! I'm good at being nosy. She was WONDERFUL!!! The sweetest thing ever and sooo helpful and attentive. We were there from 5-9pm. When we got there it was a mad house, every jack and jill trying to get wiki wacked. Standing room only. Then, as soon as we sat down and got a table, everyone cleared out like a fire drill. A very un-cool feeling for us, like we pooped the party. Be warned, this is the late afternoon slump where the 4pm wiki wasted head back to their rooms to freshen up for dinner later. So we missed the lively action until 8pm when the live music started up, which is precisely when we couldnt hear each other speak anymore. The buffalo milk was favored amongst our boys (i know, imagine that) its a banana slushy type vodka drink. I got the Ken's punch...twice, and the wiki wacker. I dont really like the wiki wacker which is rum-based, and only got it for the tiki hat they give you! I got the club sandwich which was just okay. Friends got the bison buffalo burger which looked like it was 6 inches tall. Got the oysters too. They seemed to enjoy them, but they were too slimey and exciting looking for me this time around. Im boring. The live music was cover songs like, sweet home alabama, and other 80's that got some old people up and dancin. Fun atmosphere. Everyone has to get wiki wacked once :)

The BF and I came here on a Sunday to watch the NBA playoffs. I got the wicki-wacker because it's the tourist thing to do. For 9 bucks, you get a drink, a straw hat to take silly pics with and a neon green bumper sticker stating you got wicki-wacked. Pretty good price for Catalina, definitely! The drink was pretty strong or perhaps I drank before I ate.

DON'T DO IT! - At least not for the swordfish or the buffalo burger. I heard the nightlife is pretty good there - but to me, it was a disappointment. (Maybe because I'm spoiled by the LA nightlife.) Things here are just MUCH more calm and relaxing. Not my cup of tea. The swordfish sandwich (because that's all they had) was dry and not worth the $11.75 for lunch. I would have rather eaten the street tacos from the hut on the corner. (Now those were some good tacos!) It was so dry I used my water to give it some juice! The buffalo burger (although they claim it's delicious and tender) was tough and gross! It was like chewing a soft piece of rubber - that tasted like rubber with salt on it. EW! Don't waste your time...or your money. Or if you insist on going here - order something else. Maybe the French fries. Those were safe.

This is just what it looks like from the sidewalk- a cool bar to just pop in and chill. My friends and I were taking naps most of the day in the sun so we didn't head out until like 9pm. Luau Larry's was pretty much one of the only places hopping! My boyfriend had the buffalo burger which he liked a lot, but he did have the deadly Wikki something drink which tasted pretty awful, but came with a cool straw hat! I had a Hawaiian chicken sandwich which was covered in teriyaki sauce and came with curly fries-yum and yum. My friend's blended drink wasn't strong enough so the very amazingly nice server gave her a free shot for it! Gill the singer was so fun and took some really random requests! He had a good voice and we had a great time.

Overcooked Buffalo burger, which is a no-no - since Buffalo is less fatty than beef it gets really tough when it's overcooked. They should know better on Catalina. $5.50 Pacificos, which is pretty criminal in my opinion. Location is great, right on the bay, but the interior is dark and musty. Skip this place.

This place has dishonest and lazy employee. No one helping us or greet us. We have to go around and look for someone. Then we ordered their very own "Daily Special" fish & chip for $9.99. But when the bill come they charge us for regular price $11.99. Their claim that someone forgot to change the ads. This is just a lame excuse. Just beware or think twice if you guys plan to visit this place.

Ugh...you don't have any beers on tap? Are you kidding me? And every drink is served in those stupid glasses made for piña coladas? And every drink ordered is blended? Then I get a margarita and it tastes like pure syrup? Fuck that, I'm out. Great guitar player though. Only upside of this redic tourist trap of a bar.

Recently, my gorgeous bride and I spent a few days wandering the lanes and backstreets of the romantic island town of Avalon on Catalina island located (22) miles across the sea. Due to the proximity of our accommodations, Luau Larry's was our obvious choice for rest and relaxation. An excellent establishment, which enjoys a prime spot on the malecon and loaded with all the elements, this joint is a solid pub choice. All of the usual suspects in bar food are represented and presented in fine fettle. On this day, we gorged on the mammoth Buffalo Burger, loaded with all the trimmings (the french fries were top notch), and were not disappointed. The kitchen has an open look and the talented chef, in the midst of a busy afternoon, proved to be efficient and well schooled in the art of producing a satisfying and filling lunch. The bloke earns his pay! The bar is well stocked and has a wide and varied list of colorful and potent cocktails. Furthermore, to satisfy one's desire for a frosty beverage, there are also a handful of craft brews on tap (Green Flash IPA, to name one...Viva San Diego!). It is the mixologists regularly on duty at Luau Larry's that bring it all together and are the true rock stars here. Filled with personality and knowledge of local lore, these friendly cats create a "welcome to Catalina" vibe for natives/day trippers/cruise ship sailors/ visitors alike. The resident drink preparers at all times of the day or night display deft hands and skills in the art of the bar. Of course, The Wicki Wackers receive much of the the glory and press here but, please do not count out some of the other specialies of the house. Being of ancient stock, I was not able to field test every drink on the menu but that old skool Zombie daring me down from its spot on the drink menu sure looks tasty! Maybe, next time? My adventurous wife slurped down a special hand mixed Manhattan another evening that raised the roof and lead our party to an evening of raucous behavior that several daze, later I am still trying to recover from. To top it all off, a traditional mariachi band strolled in and serenaded us with a vibrant and thrilling tune that shouted the language of love! Thank you for that! Top level, food and drink, hard working considerate and detail oriented team members dedicated to taking care of their patrons...what more could a lad ask for....we will return!

two words: VIRAL. GASTROENTERITIS. ok so to be fair, im not 100% sure that their food got me sick. but because boyfriend and i shared ALL our meals all day long and the only thing that i ate that he didn't came from this establishment, i'm pretty convinced. i had the chili nachos and 3 hours later, was puking my guts out into the toilet of our catalina hotel room. NOT a fun way to spend a romantic trip to the island. and it's too bad, because the bartender was friendly & nice, and we had a good time chit-chatting with her as we drank our well-made drinks.

This place is pretty small. The wait for a group of 7 was pretty long. Anyway, we ordered a small cheese pizza (good), pepperoni pizza (good), 2 plates of buffalo wings (good), chicken breast (good), hamburger aloha o'lea, hamberger haele w/ onion rings, avalon roast beef, banana berry breeze (good and sweet), paradise pina colada (good and sweet), mai tai (good), blue moon draft (good), new castle (not bad), and a tie me to the bed post drink (it was really green and kind of sweet, not bad; I ordered this one bc of the interesting name and what came in it). Overall, everything was good. I tasted most of my friends food and they were all happy with their selections. No complaints.

The bloodymary was awful. Too much pepper, too much water. And, like everything on catalina, this place is overpriced.

I like this place. Friendly and skilled servers deliver nicely prepared food in a timely manner. I had the fish and chips and it was great. My wife had the clam chowder in a slightly toasted sourdough bowl. There was lots of clams and it tasted good. Luau Larry's is clean and the bar is busy with an assortment of fun drinks. For the type of restaurant, I give L L's five stars.

    (5)
  • Gene N.

Its ok at best from my 1 time experience. Don't get the clam chowder its super small and bread isn't that awesome sourdough that I think all breadbowls should be, but mainly its really small. The burgers look great. The fish and chips are nothing special. If you go here, get a burger.

Yesterday when I was sitting around one those funny Polynesian-esque type places, I started thinking about one of the better tropical drinks I had. Ah, spring break. Catalina. I got my wiki wacked at Luau Larry's! Yeah, they sell bumper stickers that say that. I remember the burgers were good. But I was subsisting on crappy college food at the time. And anyyyyything was better than that back then.

  • Matt B.

I ate here for dinner. I sat at the bar and had the Kona burger. Delicious! The drinks were nice and strong. Had a great atmosphere. A tip though, if ordering a burger, order it a level less than you normally would (i.e. medium if you want it medium well) since they seem to overcook the patties. Definitely recommend as a place to grab a bite to eat.

  • Ryan C.

this place has a pretty chill atmosphere and they have nice ambience at the bar... the bartender was cool and it was a good spot to watch the NCAA game while on the island... I liked the Hawaii theme... one of the better bars for the area.... if i am going to be a "trapped" tourist, I might as well be trapped here...

    (4)
  • Tina T.

This place is cool, like a tropical-themed dive bar. The BF had oysters, thought they were awesome. I had greasy appetizers, mmm good. Beer good as well. Only problem was super rowdy locals (they were all wearing Luau Larry's t-shirts), they were so obnoxious-made us want to head to a quiter bar.

Obnoxious people, overpriced drinks... not the atmosphere for me.

  • Gwen D.

How could I not give this place five stars? I mean golly-gee (I was going to say "for Christ's sake" but I know some people are sensitive about that) they have 45oz. alcoholic drink AND if you order it you get a ridiculous straw hat that increases in coolness the more you drink. Even in a drunken stupor, I could tell the nachos sucked (even judging them by bar food standards they were gross) and some of the customers are boorish (I know, I know, I shouldn't be so hard on myself...), but overall it's a great place to kick back, escape the blazing California sun and enjoy the afternoon.

  • Misty V.

Went in for clam chowder in a bread bowl after scouring all the restaurants and finding this one to be the only one that served that. It was on their specials chalkboard in front. Went in and ordered, and lo, and behold, they are out of bread bowls!! Ordered the fish and chips instead and it was some of the best battered fried fish I've ever had. Normally, I like breaded but this batter had just enough flavor Service was very good. Will definitely go again, but they need to make sure they have all items in stock before they make it a special :)

    (4)
  • Simon C.

philosophically, if you can get a tropical drink for $9, including a neon bumper sticker that says "i got my wiki whacked," served by a gal whom even women agree is the tannest, hottest waitress on catalina island... ...that's money well spent. wearing the free straw hat and chatting up similarly drunk and hat-adorned fellow tourists at the bar is just a bonus.

    (4)
  • Rhonda C.

I had one Tasmanian Zombie and it was the strongest drink I've ever had, I will defiantly be back. If you order the Wiki Whacker you get a free straw hat. This place had great views, awesome drinks and a fun atmosphere.

  • Thao T.

I liked this place a lot. It had a really fun feel and they were showing the football games! They had a $5 pizza and beer special which we took up and I also had ken's punch and some bbq wings which were tasty. It seems that locals and tourists come here for drinks, and their drinks were really good. Although I didnt order the special drink where you get a hat, our server still gave me a sticker, so he gets two thumbs up for that!

Luau Larry's is definitely the place to drink in Catalina. I didn't drink while I was there so I had an okay time. My friend M and I decided on Luau Larry's as the place to have our first meal on Catalina Island. We went a little past lunch time, but the restaurant was crowded and there was only one server running around. I ordered bbq chicken wings and M ordered a French dipped sandwich. The food was alright. Like I said, it's a place to drink - a place known more for its drinks than its food. The service was slow and you can hear everyone else's conversation. However, we had a great view of the water as it's right on the edge of the beach. I would definitely like to give the place another try, and I'll be sure to try their famous "wiki wacker" drink!

    (3)
  • Rhoda L.

I got my wiki wacked at Luau Larry's! This place is awesome!!! There is not much night life in Catalina, but this place showed us stiff drinks, and a good time. We went Saturday night, and there was a live band that was actually really good! The drinks were good and strong, and the atmosphere was fun! I cant say much for the food cuz we did not eat, but if you are looking for a good time, this is the place.

    (4)
  • ClosetDork ..

How is it that the proprietor manage to make the place so dark inside when it was sunny outside? The only plum spot, i.e a table by the window, was obviously taken so we were led into the deep underbelly of Luau Larry's, only to be presented with an order of puny "buffalo" wings that were half the size and the quality of teriyaki wings found in nearby Safeway. Great if you really are looking for a break from the Catalina sun.

Great live entertainment that wasn't too loud. Tasty frosty drinks. A good mix of locals and visitors. A fun environment. Friendly and helpful bartenders. Only food we had was the nachos and they were basic but perfect.

I'm usually not a fan of themed bars, but this place is legit. A few beers on tap and a semi-decent bottle selection, along with a splash of the usual tropical island drinks. Cool bar to hang at, especially near the window. The food we had was decent and the service friendly. I'd go back...what else need be said.

stopped in here for a drink and maybe a quick snack while visiting catalina island. bartender about ignored us but luckily some girls told me about the whacky wicky what drink that comes with staw hat and bumper sticker! it's a cute hawaiin set up but didnt care for service. drink was good but don't know about another drink because impossible to get one. And the guy was doing nothing but standing in front of us at the bar unbusy! hello!! we are good tippers and left t his guy only 2 bucks!

~$9 for AYCE breakfast, we asked to see the food (buffet style) before deciding. was a little nervous since no one else was eating there, but we said "why not?" and figured maybe it was too early for people to be up. they offer eggs, chilaquiles (little spicy), pancakes, bacon, waffles (hard), sausage, mini b-fast burritos, potatoes, biscuits 'n gravy, fresh fruit 'n a few juices 'n milk. decent price for a typical breakfast of average quality and probably one of the cheaper options on the island.

Didn't dine here, so I can't comment on the food, but we had a good time having some drinks here and catching a bit of the Cowboys game. We went for the specialty drinks (fruity with umbrella type stuff) which were fun, good and really strong. You can also buy one that has something like 8 shots for $25 in a GIANT glass. Hammer time. Make sure to spend the extra $1.50 for the straw hats that are optional with some cocktails.... Good times for tourists. Worth a stop for a couple drinks, then hit the Marlin and the Locker Room. I think that will exhaust your Catalina Island options in the off season.

We were in Catalina for my DAD 88 B day, so after dinner( Italian Dinner)we sent the others home with dad to Hamilton Cove and had a night cap at LL's. Which turned into more than a few drinks and Bong Waters ya hoo. Then Gill started playing his Gee tar, next thing the bar was full of younger people than us & even older rockers. He takes tips for song that you ask him to whale this one man band!!!!LOads of fun and made for a good night sleep

spent the weekend in Catalina as a gift from my girlfriend. thanks babe!!! let me say that the island was amazing, made coming back home to ft Irwin make me want to cry! as soon as we walked off the Catalina Express i knew we would have a great time. We stopped by Luau Larry's Sunday afternoon for lunch. had the oysters in a half shell as an appetizer. they were really good, i mean great. they had a very fresh taste to them. you could taste the salt water they previously resided in. way to start! we had a couple shooters; the gummy bear, her choice, and i chose the bong water. both very good! the gummy bear shot was pretty sweet, but still had a great flavor. the bong water, well, tasted just like bong water! a few seconds after taking the shot i got a hint a herbal flavor along with a minty taste as well. not too bad. then we had blue hawaiians, scorpions bowls and don't remember the shots that followed. i had the fish and chips. it came with a coleslaw and that was very delicious. at first i thought it had a bit of sesame oil in it, but then i realized it was the cilantro that i was tasting. the fish and chips themselves were great. the batter was crispy and the fish nice and moist! my girlfriend had the hula burger, i think. now that i think about it, cant remember what the hell she ate. she told me it was really good, but since we started off with mimosas at the long beach express, and had a few shots and drinks, i cant recall what she ate. Later on that night, after kayaking and the flying fish tour, we came to enjoy some live music and a few more drinks. the waiter remembered us from earlier and got us our drinks really quick. she knew it was my birthday and as soon as we came in a very drunk girl ran towards me to hug me and wish me a happy birthday. turns out it was the waitress's friend and not only was it her boyfriend's bday, but her best friend's(drunk girl) birthday as well. this ended with a long night of drinking and making new friends. over all, the experience at luau larry's was great. oh, the live music... the guitarist that was there that night was fantastic. he played a couple blues songs and let me tell you that he rocked it!!! (i am horrible at remembering names and i'm going to blame it on the army. ever since i joined, i can remember anyone's last name, but first names, forget it!!!) we will definitely be back!!!! also, the drinks were decently priced, not bad at all!

In January, this is the only bar in town with live music and dancing. As the tour guide says about the one movie in town each week, you have two choices in movies..."take it, or leave it." We went in and joined a rowdy party for someone's birthday. They had already been drinking for a while and had on tropical hats to match the tiki decor of the bar. Gil, a guy with a karaoke machine, provided lead guitar and vocals for us all to **try** to dance to. The cool thing about Catalina Island is, you don't have to be good at anything to impress everyone else. I liked Gil the guitarist very much. Gil, if you're reading this, PLEASE learn to play at least one song on my wish list, and I'll come back and see ya in April: XTC--Senses Working Overtime; Mayor of Simpleton Mott the Hoople--All the Young Dudes Led Zep--Living Loving Maid David Bowie--Ch-Ch-Changes Roxie Music--Love is the Drug; Virginia Plain

Came here for my 2 year anniversary yesterday with my boyfriend and we were looking for a light snack and we stumbled upon Luau Larry's. It's a neat place, kinda small. We were welcomed instantly. My boyfriend and I ordered 2 blended margaritas and a plate of popcorn shrimp. The drinks were pretty to look at and were sweet tasting as well. But our popcorn shrimp was just heavenly! Added some lemon for extra flavor and they were even more delicious!!! :) Had awesome service and will def. come back again

Great place to end, start or even take break during your stay on Catalina. Burgers are yummy, as are the sandwhiches, and the drinks are made really well. Love it here, and can't wait to come back and relax with a drink in hand here.

Came in for the advertised special posted on their chalkboard outside: clam chowder in a bread bowl but when I ordered it they didn't have any bread bowls and no rolls. Charged me $7.50 for a bowl only taking off .85 from the bread bowl price. My husband makes much better clam chowder. This one was just OK. Husband ordered fish and chips but said it was just OK and the same with son's French dip sandwich. Will not choose to go back.

This is a casual fun spot for drinks. The decor is in bamboo, there is even a small booth underneath a volcano to sit in. Service is attentive. Try their zucchini sticks, they are just have the perfect crispiness.

It was Spring Break when we were here and many collage students were busily getting wasted at the bar, so I am assuming this is how Luau Larry's stays in business. Gah. This is your basic burger, fries, beer kinda place. Not my cuppa tea but we just got off the boat and were hungry...it was one of the few places open during the mid week, and the only place that my teenager wanted to eat...so in we went. This was probably our least memorable meal on Catalina. It wasn't that it was a terrible meal, but everywhere else we ate beat it by a good yard. I am pretty sure that none of the locals frequent this place, it seems to be a tourist joint though and through. My husband and I shared the $10 Buffalo Burger, which seemed to be shrunken and a tad overcooked, the fries were decent though. My daughter had a hot dog that looked like it had been sitting on the hot dog cooker for quite a few hours. We got outta there for about $20 incl tip. I'd say skip it if you have the option to dine elsewhere.

Wow...the amount of times I have been a drunken fool here is astounding. However, it is such a great little spot on Catalina. It's right on the main drag, great people watching, at night there is a local guy who ROCKS on his guitar and sings, and they have some signature shots that will knock your socks off. Food is yummy too! I recommend their garden burger or their buffalo burger. Yummy!

Went here for dinner...overall experience was just ok. I had clam chowder, which was a bit on the watery side. My husband had a buffalo burger that he said was nothing too great. This place is probably better for just drinks.

Very fun little bar. We ate dinner here, or at least tried to eat, but soon got sucked into the good times that were happening at the back of the bar. Small dance floor filled with mostly locals on the Saturday night we were there. The beer was very cheap and the food was not bad. If you ask they will even bring out annoying "Luau hats" that make you look rather silly but at the time you won't care as you will have had several drinks. This place was by far the most entertaining bar we went to on our trip.

very good fried zucchini sticks. never gotten them quite so small. perfect amount of seasoned batter and parmesan. the fried crab cakes were equally awesome.

Look, this is not an especially extravagant or luxurious place. What it is, is a nice little hole in the wall that serves strong drinks and a perfect environment. I ordered the Caribbean breeze drink (which was recommended by the bar keep) and then kept them coming. We had chips and salsa with guaq all day long and it was perfect, wasn't the best ever but it definitely did the job. Why would I rate this place five stars? It simply has that vibe, the kid if place that you just like to be at. It had a great drink place, really good looking food and and great music played at a volume that you can still have a conversation with your friends and not feel like you're yelling. Overall, you'll just have to show up in order to really get the total feeling of this place, it's just one of those places.

Catalina has become a once a year mini-vacation for my boyfriend and me and every time we go we MUST stop at Luau Larry's. We love their NACHOS- they have extra cheese and its perfectly melted over the beans and everything on the side so you can customize each chip (huge plus for me since I am picky and my boyfriend wants everything on them). It also the best bar to get drinks. They have SO many different kinds and each are tropical and so yummy. Of course, you have to get the WIKI WACKER, just a tradition. Other notable drinks: Blue Hawaiian, Kona Ken's, and GUMMY BEAR COCKTAIL! Always a recommendation of mine to those going to Avalon.

I have yet to give a one star and would never give a one star unless something is seriously wrong with the restaurant. WORSE customer service I ever experienced. My husband and I waited patiently for a table but sadly they gave the next table to parties who came after us. We inquired about our table a few times and they finally promised a table to us but then gave it to a larger party that came a few seconds after the table got cleared. Probably because they can make more money from a bigger party, but it's wrong to not follow through on the principle of serving customers first come first serve (except for reservations of course). Not much food options at Catalina Island so likely this establishment will continue to get business but they should improve on their poor customer service.

Came here for lunch after a crazy 8-mile hike around the southside of the island. Ordered the swordfish taco and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of flavor. Of course, I also had to try Catalina's famous Buffalo Milk which was pretty delicious in and of itself. My wife ordered the fish & chips which she enjoyed. My only knock on this place (as with other restaurants in Avalon) is that due to the drought, water is not complimentary and is to be purchased by the bottle. Beware of this before you arrive and make sure to pack your own water!

I'm a sucker for tiki bars so naturally I had to check this place out! The Wiki Wacker is a must! You get an awesome straw hat with your order! The Spicy Mexican Lollipop drink is also delicious! I only ordered the coconut shrimp to eat as I was more concerned with drinking than eating. It came with six small shrimps, but it was good and came with a tasty mango spicy sauce. Definitely make a stop here if you're visiting the island!

My fiance and I ate at Luau Larry's on a Friday night in December. There was great live music and people dancing in the aisles. We sat near the back where it was a bit quieter. He tried the pizza and I tried the ahi tuna. Both were delicious. We returned the following night and sat at the bar for a few drinks. Also delicious. We really enjoyed the live music, however without it, the atmosphere would have not been as fun.

Stopped in for a cocktail and an appetizer. Oysters were fresh and flavorful. My drink was mixed extremely well both times. All our drinks were well made. The service was ridiculously fast. Between bartender and kitchen, they covered all our needs. Some patrons wore straw hats. Don't know where they got them but we left and later on we wanted them. Lol.

Few places get the five star treatment but we saw this joint last night and it was hoppin. Also it was recommended by a friend and turned out to be a great find! Went for lunch. GET THE TURTLE WINGS. That alone for the five stars for me. Fun atmosphere clean and good service. If your in Catalina this is a must day or night! Also they gave me a bumper sticker so yeah winning.

If you're in the mood for some fruity drinks in a small, touristy joint right off the main boardwalk and marina, pop in for a Wiki Wacker! It comes with a straw hat or bumper sticker, so you've got that going for you as well. Overall, it's a nice little place to grab a drink or get a bite. It's pretty tiny (as many places are here) so not good for larger groups. Plenty of TV's to catch a game. We had the tuna sandwiches and they were amazing. The calamari looks (and tastes) more like fish sticks, though. Service was very good and although it was our waitress's first day she was a joy to be around and made the stop fun.

We weren't that hungry but needed to eat something real quick so we shared the fish and chips. It was just okay. My husband ordered one of their favorite drinks (can't remember which one) and he liked it. Small place but service was attentive though.

I was at Luau Larry's about 25 years ago and had a fantastic time. I was so happy to see it was still there on Crescent ave. That was our first stop after getting off the boat. We were lucky enough to get the front table and made several "new friends" who just stopped to talk to us. And that's how 7 "mature" women got their Wiki Wacked at Luau Larry's...

    (5)
  • Shiva A.

When in Catalina, you go to Luau Larry's and get wiki wacked! I don't even remember what was in the drink. Malibu? Vodka? Grenadine? Think sweet. Being the beer/whiskey lover that I am this was totally not my steeze but I wanted a picture with my straw hat! Went on a Monday night so it was totally dead, but I could see how this place could be more fun if it was busy. Bartender seemed over it too. It's chill, you've got annoying chicks like me coming in asking for a 100 ingredient drink so she can take selfies at the bar with her straw hat, I get it. Vodka sodas were good too.

You can't come to the island without getting your Wicky Whacked at least once. (I just really wanted to type that). Food is solid. One of the best boardwalk, people-watching spots on the island if you can grab a corner bar spot in the window.

    (4)
  • Tanner E.

Went there for drinks on a Monday night and had an amazing time, live music, everyone's happy, the bartenders happy, strong drinks, reasonably priced. And if you order a certain drink they give you a straw hat it's hilarious. Can't way to go back!

  • Amy M.

The beach view and people watching are great if you're lucky enough to get one of the front booths. If those are taken, the seats at the bar are second best. We love the tropical decor and laid-back atmosphere. The crowd is a good mix of tourists and locals. Everyone raves about the Buffalo Milk, but try their Coconut Creme, too! It was a stand-out at this year's Taste of Catalina.

Had the Huevos Rancheros. It was pretty good. Service was good too. The only bad thing was the location of the restroom. I had to squeeze by people sitting at two different tables to get to the restroom. I'm pretty sure no one wanted my rear end in their face as they ate.

This is a great tiki style bar! They have an awesome specialty cocktail menu. One of my favorite drinks is the "bong water". It's sweet and green! The Mai Tai was excellent, and the drinks are large for the price. They have live music and it gets pretty busy at night. They probably have the best mixed drinks on the island!

Our first night here was so much fun! Started off with a few margaritas, and then of course we had to try the wiki wacker. Those guys sure do know how to make a drink! All of our drinks were strong yet tasty! We ordered some chips and guacamole to nibble on, not bad, but not great. Later, we ordered the buffalo burger and the fried seafood platter which came with fried fish, clams, and shrimp. My boyfriend loved his burger! The clams were the best fried clams I've ever had! Everything else was ok. We came back the next night for another margarita. There was no room at the bar so we grabbed a table. Service was not as good as the previous night. :-( Overall, a good place to grab a yummy drink and some decent food. Make sure to sit at the bar though!

Avoid for breakfast at all costs. Stopped in on a Sunday for what we thought would be a quick breakfast and turned out to be disappointment on all fronts. I am not unreasonable and I realize that this is primarily a bar, but don't try serving breakfast if you aren't equipped for it. We were sat in the very back corner by the bathroom, trapped by others tables to the point that the first server just yelled across the blocked area of other guests for our drink order. I get that it's busy and a small place, but that was not an elegant start. We got a different server, who I will say up front, was fantastic and dealt with her terrible kitchen/team as best she could. We ordered simple breakfasts, and after a half-hour the server comes over to tell us that the kitchen lost our ticket and they were preparing it ASAP and would be out momentarily. When it didn't come for another 15 she came over to apologize and let us know she would discount the bill for the inconvenience. As other tables of two who were seated after we ordered begin to get their food while our table is empty, I begin to get really frustrated. Finally the food comes - a breakfast burrito that was hot and tasty for my boyfriend. My standard egg plate was missing the cheese I ordered on the (cold) eggs, had no toast and the sausage links were stone cold. Not edible and sent the plate back for a hot and correct version. After 10 minutes of no food, I walked back to the kitchen myself and told them to forget it - I will just eat half of the breakfast burrito because we had now been there over an hour and I am starving. Bill comes - no discount, only the plate that I didn't eat removed, as it should have been. At that point, I was so eager to get out of the corner I had been stuck in that I didn't even have the energy to fight it. Bottom line: seemed like a great place for drinks and late night fun, but to start your day here is likely going to get the day off on the wrong foot. Next time, I will stand in line for one of the more popular island breakfast joints that are proven on both service and quality.

A Fun Experience! The bar was very upbeat a band was playing and the crowd was around 30+ Wasn't my kind of scene BUT I'm glad I went because everyone who visit NEED to order the drink special and earn themselves a fun VACATION HAT!

Larry's got its Luau back!!! Took the family while visiting a few weeks ago, and the service was greatly improved, the wings better, and the kids (yeah, during the day, so brought the kids) loved the place, as well as the menu options. Not sure if we hit a bad spot previously, but they seem to be picking it back up again...

Fun spot for drinks if you can snag that front seat facing the beach. Lots of different fruity and tropical drinks to choose from. Pretty standard bar fare and munchies. Kitschy place that's fun for a drink!

Fun place to go and get your weenie whacked !! Yes , and get a hat I case you forget! Pricey for what you get and the drink was not strong but hey..,this is a tourist area and it's fun to have the straw hat as a memory!

They had me at SWORD FISH TACOS! DON'T BE FOOLED! I was so disappointed on how they cooked the swordfish.. I expected to be a filet but it was chopped up and tasted chewy like chicken.. I didnt taste fresh either.. SO DONT GET THE SWORDFISH TACOS Catalina is in a drought so when you ask for water it comes in a bottle. Totally fine with me We also got the Buffalo Burger was good. I liked the string onions in the burger. It came with steak fries and my bf loved it. Lots of people drinking early here! Rowdy and fun! That's how Catalina should be on the weekends!

Not a bad place for some burgers and a beer. Just have to watch out for the mid life crisis fat women touresting with their third husbands. Smashing back the wiki wackers so they get their straw hats. Later in the night in better to go since the boat floaters all went back to the main land by then. Then the locals come out and it's a great time.

Going solely on the drinks and atmosphere. It's a cute tiki bar with an impressive drink list. Went here to try the Wiki Wacked drink. It's a fruity alcoholic beverage that came with a silly tiki hat. Atmosphere seems to give me the impression I'm in Hawaii and the staff are very attentive.

Came here for breakfast on the weekend and it was a bit crowded but was able to be seated quickly. Breakfast menu was very good. I had eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. My boyfriend had chorizo with potatoes and Flour tortillas. Server checked on us often to make sure we were ok. Good place to eat and have drinks definitely would come back again!

Fun, Fun, Fun Everyone has to have the special drink, Wiki Wacker, at Luau Larry's just to get the Huckleberry Finn straw hat. Tropical drinks, small bites, Hawaiian atmostpher, and lots of amusement.

Really enjoyed my time at Larry's. Was right next to the Pavillion, where we were staying. Saw the lame touristy straw hats and decided we had to because we're stupid like that - ordered 2 WikiWhackers ($9) pronto. Down the hatch, strong as hell. Awesome. Follow that by Buffalo Milk which tasted like a great banana smoothie that needed more Rum! Topped THAT off with a pina colada which was king. Food: Poke and buffalo wings. Wings tasted like wings but had a great sauce. Nothing special but not horrible. Poke was fine but I prefer it to be colder and when you put it on a hot bed of rice it heats up to a bad degree.. though we enjoyed it still. It's not overly salty dude get widdit! This is the most poppin bar at night in Avalon with competition maybe from El Galleon. Everywhere else is especially dead (ESPECIALLY the catalina cantina.. what was up with that?!) ++Live Music had the 30-somethings grooving and stupid. Some woman behind us was acting pretty stupid

Great lil bar on Catalina Island. Came here for dinner and drinks and surprisingly had a good time! There was a solo guitarist performing that evening belting out all the popular rock songs! We ordered nachos and they were totally on board when we asked to substitute the chips for curley fries. It tasted great! Appears that LL is popular for their fruity tropical drinks, so we set aside our love and devotion for scotch and whiskey to partake in the island's libation fun of Wiki Wackers and Bahama Mamas. Fun Tip: Order the Wiki Wacker and wear your hat proudly!

My boyfriend said the bacon in his burger was cooked to perfection! And my coconut shrimp was so good. I just wish I had more to eat... Our server was so kind and on point. She suggested the bacon on the burger. Thanks!

Came on a Wednesday after we heard about $5 burger after buying a drink. The burger was simple but delicious. Seems tourist-y, but still a fun spot to chill. The drinks are well poured, and the decorations make you feel like you aren't you Catalina. It was pretty busy for a Wednesday but service did not reflect that all. I ordered a Wiki Whacker which was great and came with a hat. I did leave the hat at the bar, but the drink and atmosphere fun! We will be back.

best experience, ever! i came in here for the birthday special, a Wiki Whacker, and got a free hat! Second one, and I got a sticker! Yoni was the best bartender, ever! Friendly, witty, and made me feel special as a guest visiting on my bday. Cheers! A+++++

My boyfriend and I came here during our stay at Catalina for Valentine's. It is a cute little restaurant/bar. We were greeted by all the staff as soon as we walked through the door. We ordered a dozen oysters, and ended up ordering more because they were so fresh and delicious. For drinks, I ordered the Wiki Wacker (which was refreshing), that came with a giant straw hat.

Catalina Island is a small place so when you walk in you can totally tell this is like a "Cheers" Bar, everyone knows your name. Although they KNOW you don't belong and you're a visitor they treat you JUST like you come there daily. It's always nice to feel welcomed when in a new place. I shared a buffalo burger and fries, and had a signature drink called a Wiki Wacker. Well for ordering you get a cool hat and as you can see from the picture AFTER you have the Wiki Wacker the quality of your pictures might not be so great since it's a little tough to focus after drinks. Ha Ha As for the food, it was good, pretty typical bar food, but the EXCELLENCE of the customer service as well as the great drinks makes this place pretty darn excellent! Yes a stop here is a great idea.
