Ugh. I used to buy sandwiches at the old Taco Bell, then Dimitra's now Mountain Mikes location. The ladies there certainly were not contenders for Miss Personality, but it was quick, cheap and somewhat edible. This Park St. one is the only one open now (Bay Farm location closed eons ago...) and, so... I started going there. Meh! Never again... Owner: arse! Parking area: awkward! Sandwiches (on a 1 to 10) 4, maybe... (meats are quite salty and the turkey is a bit slimy...) Gyros are okayish, though! Normally, I would not bother to rate a mediocre place, but when the rude owner insults a woman in front of me for no good reason... it's time to speak up!!! This is the second time I witnessed his nastiness.. so I walked out without ordering never to return again... (I am really surprised Dimitra's has not died off sooner... one to go!!)

This place was great back in 2003. A lot has changed since... I had there roast beef, BBQ chicken and BBQ sandwiches here. The roast beef is ok but same as you can expect from subway. BBQ beef is roast beef with BBQ sauce (sick!). There BBQ chicken was just mediocre. The sauce is too tangy and at times even sour. The owner is a complete moron. Only one girl that works there seems happy about her job and she makes the 1 star in this review. Go to Sandwich Board instead

The sandwiches here are pretty decent. The gyros are microwaved, though... IMHO, the owner can be an absolute a**hole...

It's just a quickie, cheap sandwich place, better than Subway. Like the California Split, the Meatball Marinara and the macaroni salad.

The OD - Ive been coming here for years and thats all I order. The OD (over dose) has pretty much everything in the kitchen sink. Its one helluva samich. I usually have one every 3 or 4 months to satisfy that grinder urge. Not a samich like it anywhere else. Ive never tried any other item off the menu, although my girl has and she says its ok. Fresh meats, fresh produce, good CHEEZ. Im generally a happy go lucky kinda guy and greet people with genuine enthusiasm and usually that rubs off on them. Ive always had good service here, despite what others say. After all, you dont want em putting that "Special" sauce on your meal after you give them the stink eye.

Abigail's was closed and this was an unsatisfying second. Can't have a good sandwich without a good bread. This place was clean and cheap.

I miss the old dimitra's on central and I spent most of my first five years at my job going there for lunch. Finally came here to their original location and nothing has changed. I got my usual texakarna with bacon, which is a turkey with Swiss and avocado. Good to see nothing has changed. I'll try to make it out here more when I'm in the area.

I rented in Alameda before buying in Oakland and used to love going to Dimitra's on Central Avenue. That was about 7 years ago. Anyways, went to this location for lunch today and was really disappointed. First, the two chicks in there copped an attitude when I had questions about the menu. I don't mind being spoken to curtly if the food is good, but the soup and half sandwich just didn't make the grade. The meat in the sandwich was overly minced and there wasn't enough oil and vinegar on it. There's something wrong with the bread, as if it's doughy and not fully baked. The soup was somewhat watery. In the future, I'll skip Dimitra's. There's many more eateries on Park Avenue that I can choose from.

They make pretty good sandwiches here, and gyros too. Gyros, for those of you who went to small grade schools with no cafeteria, consist of slices of pressed meat product in a pita with some yogurt sauce. If questions rise in the back of your mind about the pressed meat product start thinking about something else immediately. The women in the back making the sandwiches are nice, but the girl at the register hates you. Don't worry about it, she hates me too.

Had a sandwich here last night after not eating her for sometime. WHAT happened??? It was aweful! I use to work down the street from this place and loved it. I won't be going anymore.

  • Delilah B.

I ordered the Athenian Chicken. It was a roll with a tiny VERY thinly sliced chicken breast. It said it came with a special sauce but it seemed to be plain mayo if you ask me. Even though they have a huge selection of other things to choose from, I would never go here again.

  • Mason J.

The definition of mediocre. The falafel sandwich was bland. They microwaved the falafel, that should have been my first clue. The dill pickle tasted like a salt bomb. If there was dill anywhere near that pickle it kneeled to the salt.Yuck . Can't say much for any other menu item as I haven't tried them and probably wont. I feel like someone duped me out of nearly $10. The diet peach Snapped was spot on tho'.

Yum. O. Licious. Lots of basic sandwich offerings, plus many creative sandwiches. My favorite is the Scandinavian, oh holy jeezus, so good. My son adores their soups. I still want to taste the baklava. Good beverage selection, too. Always polite and quick at the register. We love Dimitra's.

So it all depends on what you're looking for in a sandwich. For example, a typical sandwich at Dimitra's is... The Hungarian: LOTS of thinly sliced turkey Lots of Shredded iceberg lettuce Swiss Cheese Jalapenos Mayonnaise Pureed avocado Mustard or dijon (on request) all on a hero roll. The ingredients are fresh (I have never had brown avocado or poor lettuce or meat there), the taste combinations are lovely, and the service is fine if you just give the people a chance. Sometimes, the above is not what I'm looking for in a sandwich. Let's face it, the word "sandwich" acts as a broker for a very wide range of culinary creations. So depending on your sandwich mood, sometimes Dimitra's is not it. But I find that a lot of the time, Dimitra's is IT for me. The place is GOOD! I get to craving those sandwiches. Parking on the side. Yay! I'm a fan.

Best sandwiches in Alameda and the east bay. People who live, go to school and work in Alameda will know Dimitra's for it's great portions, freshness and value. Any of the specialties subs are great, but also their regular sandwiches such as the tuna. Used to go two to three times a week when I worked in Alameda for the sandwich and soup lunch deal.

  • Derrick V.

Went here once and the sandwich was about 70% lettuce. Not good.

  • Mindy S.

Dimitra's is not much to look at, but then again, who goes to sandwich counters for the view? Get the gyro (with everything - even the jalapenos!) to go and drive down Park to the beach for an impromptu picnic. If you are just looking to grab some sandwiches or a quick bite before a movie down the road, Dimitra's is quick and cheap (5 bucks or less for almost everything on the menu). and tasty.

I used to come here pretty often my freshman year of high school. I pretty much stuck to a couple of sandwiches that I liked, one being the Texarcana. My friends and I would come here a lot because one of them was anemic, and this is where she got her fill of meat. The service was never that great to me. There was this one guy who always seemed a bit impatient when you tried to figure out what to order. The price was okay, I guess, but I think after realizing the corner liquor market by the school had sandwiches that were cheaper an, I think, a bit tastier, I haven't really been back since. My friend put it best to describe the other place's sandwiches, that place put something in their sandwiches that was like crack, it was just addicting. Here, not so much.

  • Mark S.

Amazing sandwiches and gyros. I've been going to Dimitra's for 9 years and the quality and taste haven't changed. My favorite is the Tijuana, but their gyros are some of the best I've had. You can't go wrong with this little shop.

    (5)
  • Mike D.

This place is okay. I guess I'm kind of a sandwich snob.... I got two sandwiches. Both of them Turkey. The bread was dry and the turkey meat was slimy, like the kind of meat you get at Subway. I rate my sandwiches in Alameda from 1-10, with 1 being a Safeway Deli Sandwich (blech) and 10 being a Domenico's sandwich (food of the gods)... sandwich board is around 8... and Demitra's is about a 4. The owners are friendly... but they could improve the quality of the food. The prices are really cheap, but I don't mind paying more for a good sandwich. They're also open til 6 on Sundays, which is awesome since Sandwich Board and Domenicos aren't.

    (3)
  • A D.

Solid. Not much has changed over the years. The Dimitra's Sub is the go to sandwich, though others are fine. I've been going here for years and am always satisfied. They rarely have off days and the pricing is on point.

    (4)
  • Zane W.

Been eating here for several years now, even after it changed hands, and find it filling with fresh ingredients, good bread, and most of all, inexpensive for a lunch. They don't serve much else, some drinks, chips, a cookie.... but what the hell, I came for a sandwich, and this is the place

    (4)
  • Karen W.

Most disgusting, boring, and bland sandwich I've EVER eaten. Got the Teriyaki Chicken one if anyone cares. Had a couple bites and threw it away. I'd rather eat nothing. What a waste of $8 ... I will NEVER go back !!

I'm in love with the turkey, roast beef and avocado sandwich, aka the Texarkana. The owner is very nice and always keeps the shop clean.

Love love love this place. My regular hot roast beef with everything extra peppers yes please!!! Service is fast because i come before the school lunch and its a small spot so would recommend to order Togo plus they got a parking lot! Makes it so much easier . Price is great wide selection of favorite beverages, noticed they have fresh potato salad that's cool but awesome deli and delicious sandwiches

I have been going here for a long time and I currently go here a few times a week. I was surprised at the reviews on here because I think it's a good place. I always get the same things. I recommend the dimitras sub or the California split. I love the potato salad or a boiled egg. Pricing is reasonable and the service is fast...beware of all the high school kids around lunch hour but even then they are fast...really what's not to like its a sandwich spot on the island...and they care.

    (5)
  • Aric W.

It is probably closer to 4 stars, but I am trying to offset all these low reviews. I went in there, asked what is good and got the #1 Dimtras sandwich or whatever. A bag of chips and a drink for like 8 bucks. Great price and it was a great sandwich. Soft, fresh bread and perfect amount of meat and produce. Staff was friendly and fast. I did notice that the drink refrigerators were kind of dirty like on the top shelves. In reality the drinks are enclosed in a container so some soot on the shelves wont effect me, but it was there. If you go to Jack in the box over this place- shame on you.

B.B.Q Beef sandwich is microwaved pre packaged roast beef tossed in BBQ sauce. Gyros meat also kept in container in the fridge and microwaved to order. First and last time coming here.

I absolutely love this little sandwich place! Everything is so fresh, the bread is soft, there is so much flavor and the price is right! I always call for lunch orders for my coworkers and my self and I would definitely recommend this to you!

Greek sandwich shop. It is what it is. I asked for an Italian hero, like a godfather. She knew what I was talking about, but asked me if I wanted mayo and mustard on it... Va fangoul! She did make the sandwich to my specifications and was pleasant. Sandwich was ok but it wasn't fantastic. The wine vinegar tastes kinda bad. I wouldn't go out of my way but I wouldn't avoid it. Accepts MasterCard and visa, convenient side parking lot.

A friend brought me here for lunch because it's her favorite sandwich place in Alameda. Never again: 1. Will I come here, and 2. Trust this friend's food judgment. On that oh so disappointing day, I ordered a sandwich that I've erased from my memory. It was worse than any sandwich that I could have made at home and the cleanliness level of this place really worries me.

    (1)
  • Jennifer E.

I think 2.5 stars is spot on. It's not bad, and the woman behind the counter was friendly enough. It just wasn't GOOD. The sandwich I had (turkey, avo, cheese), was bland bland BLAND. The turkey was clearly cut elsewhere, not from a full turkey (looked like pressed turkey breast style - no dark edges), the bread was...a soft roll without much flavor. I won't be back.

    (2)
  • Jose D.

Good healthy Sandwiches. Love there bowl of chili...wish they serve it all year around..come on, your losing profit for those who want your delicious chili with cheese and onions on a summer day... oh well guess I wait till winter.

    (4)
  • Nick S.

The food is ok. The service is sometimes slow. Very cheap for the sandwich. No bathrooms. Very clean.

    (3)
  • Jose O.

Dimitra's makes a vegetarian sandwich that I just looove...for no good reason. The sandwich has eight layers of cheese, tons of mayo, tomatoes, shredded lettuce and jalapeños. There is no way this sub is healthy. I would never recommend it's madness to anyone...its mine! ALL MINE! OOooh! It's making my mouth water. I'm certain crack is sprinkled on the sandwich because it shouldn't be so addictive. This sandwich will certainly kill me. Ooooh what a great way to die. Although I love this sandwich I'm just giving it 3 stars. The parking layout sucks and in all honesty the sandwich isn't anything special --I'm just crazy.

    (3)
  • Darrell D.

Its cheap and quailty is that of a food truck from Off the Grid. 3 tables, but service is fast and friendly. No uppity stuff here.

This is hands down my favorite sandwich shop in Alameda and one of my favorites in the bay area. The staff is always friendly and the sandwiches are consistent and delicious. They also have an excellent variety.

Good sandwiches(the ingredients are fresh and the peppers are good & hot), off street parking, great service and open until 7pm unlike several other sandwich shops on Park. Our go to spot.

Decent sandwiches ...not like it used to be back in the day. If it was'nt for the wife I'd never go here ... Scolari's is a block away

I found this place to be mediocre and overpriced and resolved afterward to be less experimental with American food. I paid $8 for a sandwich that really should cost $5 and I definitely won't be back unless somebody else is paying.

  • Stephanie G.

Is it odd to give a place I go to almost once a week just four stars? Well, part of the reason I go so often is it is only a block and a half from my house. A quick easy dinner on the way home from work or a tasty filling lunch to eat on our porch on a sunny weekend day. Awesome. I am tempted to give them five stars because the ladies that work here are so nice. They recognize me and my husband and even keep track of how many months along I am in pregnancy - of course it helps that we go in weekly. Oh, and we also get the same thing every time: two gyros with everything. Sure they have a giant menu. I got a sandwich once, and it was good - lots of meat and extras - but I love me some gyros, especially with jalapenos now that this extra being in my body seems to like spicy food. Oh, right...jalapenos on a gyro. This is where I decided to go with four stars. They aren't a traditional gyro. Delicious, but not traditional. And its not really the jalapenos that make me hold back that star. It's the microwaving. Yeah, no giant meat stick. The meat and pita are heated up in a microwave. I'm sure this happens other places and I'd be none the wiser, but the last couple of times its made the edge of the pita a little hard. But I'll still keep coming back. The ladies are nice and baby likes jalapenos.

    (4)
  • Eric L.

I used to love the sandwiches here, but over the past year it just has not been the same. The bread seems to feel like the focal point when it really should be the meat.

  • Taj A.

The precise defintion of A-OK. I'm spoiled by two particular Peninsula sandwich spots with more generous portions and similar prices. Don't get me wrong. Dimitra's is delicious, but my " Texarkana" with roast beef, turkey, and avocado had just smidgens of each. Can't complain much when the 'wich is only $5.50. But when I'm on the other side of the Bay, I can pay $1.25 more and get something literally 3 times the size, with way more flavor and ingredients.... Why is Alameda lagging on great deli places? I know this town looks like the land that time forgot, ( meaning don't stick with the traditional sandwich style of the 1920's) but you'd think someone would just step up and make a DOMINANT sandwich place like ****** *****, , or ***** *****. I'll go back, it's good, just not way stoked off it.

    (3)
  • wendy W.

The sandwiches used to be unbelievable, huge, full of meat, cheese and all the trimmings. They were so big that the guy who took me there didn't believe that I could eat all of it...he didn't know me very well. That was many, many years ago..30 years. Sadly, the same ingredients, but about one third the size. It would be great if they would go back to the same great sandwiches. I used to dream about them.

dimitra is next to jack in the box and seems popular with the school kids nearby. (note the lunch sandwich, soda and chips, 5.75?) menu: subs, chicken subs, soups, sandwiches, gyros sampling: grecian(roast beef, pastrami, and ham 5.25)no tax -contains wine, vinegar, onions, lettuce, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes & mayo. you can request dijon mustar, greek peppers, pickles, lo fat mayo. LOTS OF lettuce, a few thin slices of tomato, the meat shavings (very thin) and mayo on a large hot dog like tasting bun(ala wonder bread), not a french roll. -sandwich tasted salty. none of the ingredients could be tasted except for the mayo. obviously the meats came premade, not homemade. bread crumbs: -good value but not gourmet dintng. -ok pedesterian sandwiches. -.99 prepriced amazon teas sell for !.50 -nice service from the single elderly lady present.. -not a destination dining spot. -few seating, if any.

Decent sandwiches at a decent price, nothing too special. A lot to choose from the menu. Quality of products used could be better.

  • I've Got Something To Say G.

I had no ideas that Dimitra's had changed owners. I went to get the Tijuana that I love and ended up with some sorry version of it. I had a ton of lettuce and half the meat that usually comes on it. The meat itself was different, low quality and kinda choppy. The service wasn't that great either, if I order a sandwich it upsets me that the people that ordered after me got their hot food before me. Maybe they will get better but I won't be returning.

I had a gyro here once -- it was fine. Did the job. But one day I had a serious craving for a turkey and cranberry sandwich, and after cruising Park st. in search of one, decided to give Dimitra's a try. Big mistake. It's such a big let down to have a craving and then have it spoiled by something that under-delivers. The turkey was sliced paper thin and there was a lot, but it was actually WET, so much so that it just ruined the whole textural experience of each bite. Plus, the quality wasn't good, it wasn't deli-quality whole turkey breast that you expect to find in at a REAL sandwich shop (not like Subway). Flavor -- very bland -- nothing meshed. And the cranberry sauce? Canned! Yes, the actual gelled stuff with the ridges. Anyway, Park st. is in dire need of a deli-quality sandwich shop. Subway is okay if you just want a sandwich in a pinch, but for good bread, meats, cheeses and the right balance of condiments best to go elsewhere -- even Panera does a better job on the sandwich department.

Was down in Alameda last weekend with my family and came here for sandwiches. I had come to the shop before and the sandwiches were pretty good however this time it was a different story. The bread was too hard, the amount of meat was skimpy and the overall experience was poor. My recommendation is stay away!!

    (1)
  • Richard H.

I was in the area . Have not had a sandwich for many moons. Still tasty and very reasonable in price. Better than Subway more filling better meats better rolls. If in the area give it a try. .......Staff of one at this time 11 am on a Tuesday was great.

  • RAy J.

Holly crap! I haven't had a sandwich this tasty since I was back east! This a nice little place....with its own parking lot! Which is awesome considering parking on park st. isn't the best. Anyway...I had the Bermuda sandwich which had ham, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, jalepenos, oil, vinegar, and mayo on italian bread. Only 5.25....flat! It was so delicious! Its so good I was still raving about it after I finished it! Made me really happy! To go only though which isn't bad. They also make fresh cookies, baklava, and various salads. I highly recommend this place. Even my buddy from NY likes it...and that's saying somethin!

  • Andy H.

Not impressed, actually, pretty disappointed. We went to Dimitra's on a whim because my fiancee heard it was good. I asked where she heard that as we were walking towards the place. She wasn't sure and I was like, whatever, let's give it a try. I take sandwiches pretty seriously, so when I saw it was in an old, stand-alone building on Park Street I figured it had the goods. I was wrong, here's why: 1. The lady taking our order stood behind the counter BEHIND the front counter -- we could only see her head. 2. I couldn't tell if she was writing the order down (a serious pet peeve of mine if not). She wasn't... 3. I ordered a Hungarian on toasted sourdough. They don't have a toaster. A sandwich shop without a toaster? Ok, well just sourdough then. No pickled jalapeno, no vinegar, add dijon mustard. 4. The ingredients just aren't very good. My sandwich was on stale bread, contained one thick slice of rock hard tomato, shredded iceberg, loafed out turkey ... and guess what, no dijon. One half star for carrying Fritos, one half star for the very reasonable prices, and one star for the building and location having the potential to house a decent sandwich shop someday. Minus two for customer service and minus one for ingredients/toaster issues.

What? Only 3.5 stars....maybe everyone has been spoiled by eating at Ike's. Since i'm from the south bay, there aren't too many solid and tasty sandwich places! I came here on a whim and didn't know what to order. Had an Avocado with Pastrami and Provolone. The great thing about the sandwich, it's loaded with yummy lettuce spruced up with wine and vinegar, jalapeños to add just the right kick and some onions that add just the right touch to the meat. I ate the entire sandwich and it was pretty big. I guess I'd give it a 5 star if it had special sauces or something to differentiate itself but definitely the best sandwich place in Alameda. Brings back old memories of Alameda High days! Definitely coming back! MMMMM =P 4.5 Stars for me...since they have their own parking lot.

Gyros aren't as big out here as they were back in Chicago. So, if you live in Alameda, this is pretty much the only option. Thankfully, the gyros here are purty dang good, with jalapenos and grilled onions. The only thing a tad lacking is the cucumber sauce, but it's still decent. The pickles are pretty good too. Haven't ever tried anything else here so can't speak for the sammies etc. But the gyros - thumbs up.

    (4)
  • Alex D.

I definitely think this place is a little pricey for what you get. Basically, it is the gyro equivalent of a ballpark frank: its microwaved and in a sealed plastic bag. I needed two to slay the beast of hunger, which cost over $12, which I think is a little ridiculous. You can get a PRIMO burger, side, and soda for that much. Was nice to try once. I only went here because Yo! Philly Cheesesteaks, its neighbor, was closed for some reason.

Another episode in the on going saga of hee-ro, gee-ro, yee-ro, jy-ro, gy-ro.... Ok, lady, thank you for correcting me. Yee-ro or whatever. You know what I meant. Do you snidely correct everyone who mispronounces your food? Great way to start your lunch when you haven't had one of these since forever. And this gyro ain't worth the $5.50 Despite the peppers, this one is bland, small and makes you wish you chose another place.

Place was the bomb ---for the most part. Driving through Webster I wanted a place that made good fresh sandwiches, sick as I was of fast food and not wanting to shell out a lot of cash for rice/been platters at Otaez (though good) or wade through the lines at the dim sum spots next door. Oh yeah, and Alameda put ANOTHER Der Wienerschnitzel over here. That's two. That's two in the whole Bay Area, I think. So it was the "Tijuana" sandwich, the special of the day: roast beef, jack cheese and avocado on a french roll, chips and drink, all for $6.15. The roll was of the Subway variety ---a little too small and soft, rather than Acme/Grace toothsome and chewy. (OK, I'm being picky.) Otherwise the roast beef was just fine ---not exactly freshly roasted but more like it was processed. I had it warmed up, which actually made it blend better, and made the avocado become more spreadable. All in all a good sandwich and deal too. And the place was nice and clean inside, a decent place to sit down for a quick Sunday lunch after you've spent some time washing and waxing your car ----like me! Best moment: when the run down '85 Camry showed up and out popped 6 dogs! And this woman was trying to control them on what looked like a daily walk.

Not only does this place make your sandwich SUPER fast, but they are also friendly and the sandwiches are good. I'm a fan of the bread (always fresh) and the meats, which are pretty tasty. The only sandwich I've ever had is the Dimitra's Special (their house sandwich), but I am determined to branch out to falafel, gyros, and some of their other cool sounding sandwiches. Pretty good selection of desserts and bottled drinks as well.

this is the nastiest sandwich i have had in a while. a really good deli sandwich is hard to come by. a decent sandwich is not rocket science but this place seems to fail at every aspect of what a sandwich should be. i ordered the "Damita sub" or whatever. the bread totally sucked and they dont have other options, or if they do, they did not ask me. there is no cheese on this sandwich either...which the sandwich DESPERATELY needed. there are like four different kinds of meat and you cant even taste which is which. you have to ask for them to put mustard on!?!?! they only have jalepenos and not pepperocinis!?!?!?! not only is the sandwich overloaded with lettuce, but it is iceberg lettuce (yuck) and not only is it iceberg lettuce, but its shredded iceberg lettuce which means that its hella messy and difficult to remove from your sandwich! when i ate the sandwich, i could not tell what any of the flavors were and everything just tasted very bland, not-of-high-quality, and muddled. i forced myself to eat half of it but threw the other half away. i wanted to maybe give this place two stars but i cannot considering the following: a) i really hated every aspect of my sandwich b) i saw nothing else on the menu that looked remotely appealing c) all they do is sandwiches...they have no excuse to deliver a bad sandwich especially when it is their signature sub d) you can get a better sandwich at subway....and i HATE subway.

while hitting up some thrift stores one sunny afternoon in alameda: ---------------------------- girlfriend "i'm getting hungry. i need to eat something." me "okay. you wanna go home or get something out?" girlfriend "we still to find you pants and get mice for the snake, so let's eat out. no point in driving home and coming back over here." me "where do you wanna go? i don't know where cheap decent food is around here." girlfriend "how about wienerschnitzel? i'm kidding." me "well, i don't have too much to spend on food right now, and i know there's a jack in the box near the end of park, and we're heading that way anyways. besides, we haven't had jack in the box since christmas morning the year before last. . ." girlfriend "hmmmm. okay." ----------------------------- we pull up in front of jack in the box, and i see dimitra's sitting next to it. ----------------------------- me "i used to want to go to that place, but i looked it up on yelp and everyone says it blows." girlfriend "are you sure? it can't be that bad if it's still in business. i'd rather give money to the little guy than to jack in the box." me "sure, why not?" ----------------------------- we go in, scan the menu, and order a chicken teriyaki sandwich for myself, and a turkey and cheese sandwich for my girlfriend. right as the girl behind the counter is making our food, some people come in behind us. and more people behind them. and some more just for good measure. the girl asks the people behind us what they would like to order. she's working on theirs when she places our completed sandwiches on top of the counter. she then asks four more people what they would like, puts two more sandwiches on the counter, and starts making more. we've been staring at our sandwiches for over ten minutes before she completes three more orders and runs out of room on the counter. she finally walks the seven feet to the register with our sandwiches and says, and i quote "sorry for the wait." it takes her all of thirty seconds to charge us for the wrong sandwiches. i'm too pissed off to even open my mouth. i pay the extra dollar something, grab the bag, our chips and potato salad and sit at one of the tables outside. we're not suprised that my sandwich was cold. we were definitely suprised when we realised that we couldn't taste the difference between our two sandwiches. and that they both tasted bad. ----------------------------- girlfriend "we should've gone to jack in the box." me "this store needs a bazooka to the face. i'm putting that on yelp." girlfriend "i wouldn't do that. what if something happens to the store later? hahahah. you could get blamed for it." me "no. fuck this place. i would be proud to be accused of blowing this shit up." ----------------------------- and here we are.

Its good. I mean, I get a BIG ol hoagie roll with some shredded lettuce and a little mini piece of cheese. It tasted good... but then again, I was starving. Im gunna have to give it 3 stars, but I WILL go back, and when I do, I'll try to get a bit more adventurous with my sammich choice. I must admit, I also took off a star because they wouldnt let me pee there... and i HAD to pee... i even TOLD the chick i was pregnant, to see if she'd take mercy. she didnt. But then, i hate people thinking they get extra special treatment so i can sort of forgive it. Had to pee at Jack in the Box next door. Love, Sara

the one thing that dimitra's has going for them: location. and i don't mean location as in, located downtown, or located near a high school. i mean location as in, they're one of the few sandwich shops located in Alameda (especially open on a sunday). lucky for them. there is virtually no competition. the service is rude and the sandwiches are just regular. every time i walk in, i feel as if i'm bothering them with my order. i don't really get it though, i've been coming here since high school (like i said, location - no other sandwich place in Alameda), and the workers have been different, but the service has been consistently rude. must be some backwards customer service training (a lot of things in Alameda tend to be backwards). i've heard some compare dimitra's to the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld, but i imagine his soup was something to be desired. i don't think much would be loss if i were banned from the sandwich nazi. i mean, dimitra's.

On a bad day, Dimitra's sandwiches are good. On a regular day they are deliciously big, soft, and even refreshing bombs of yumyum. Unlike some of the sandwiches that you might get at a deli that have a solid slab of meat and cheese, the fillings inside these sandwiches are cut thin and nestled comfortably inside the soft, lightly seeded rolls. I usually get the Texarkana with bacon added- turkey, roastbeef, avocado, and saltilicious porky pig. Jalapenos come standard on the sandwich, as does red vinegar. Just say "everything" unless you're going on a date and don't want onion lingerings. The people there are friendly and there's lots of seating at this air-conditioned location- good for hot days. The one on Park only has two tables outside. Check it.

Not impressed. The BLT with avocado did not have toasted bread, and the mayo was way too much! And I like mayo. I can't imagine myself returning here, ever. Yes, like the other other review, the girl who made the sandwiches was nice and sweet, and the one at the counter not so much so. Also, there is no bathroom. That sucks. Like, I said, I won't return.

Stale bread. Soggy turkey. These are sandwiches for people who normally eat at McDonalds and think that this is a step up. The food here on a good day here is mediocre and on a normal day is bad. Sometimes the Gyro's are allright, but the thin gooey pressed turkey and oddly shredded lettuce are not their highlights. And putting Jalapeno's on everything by default? That just tells me you are trying hard to cover up bad tasting food. There are much better options for food in Alameda. Also, the signs that ask you to call the owners if you don't get a receipt is a really tacky touch. It screams "we hire criminals and we need you to help us with security." It is not a comfortable situation for the clientele.

Really more like 3 1/2. Been here a couple times now to pick up sandwich. there's nothing terribly gourmet about this place and the prices are pretty average. That said, i would go here over subway/quiznos or something 10 out of 10 times. My sandwich was fresh, had the perfect amount of everything on it, and the service was quick and friendly. There's better sandwich shops in alameda, but if i'm walking down that neck of park st. and feel like getting a sandwich, i would not hesitate.

I went to this place ONCE. I ordered a BLT and it was drowning in MAYO. I mean....the whole jar must of been in my sandwich.

I used to love Dimitra's Sandwiches. I would make sure that I would swing by and get a sandwhich when I was visiting. The last time I went in was about 3 weeks ago. The service was not good. The sandwhich tasted like a safeway sandwhich. I thought maybe the person was not trained, or they were sold. I will probably try again to see if the person was just having a really bad day, but only because I loved dimitra's sandwiches and hope I can still get a Tiajuana or a Hungarian. "the real thing"

How can a sandwich be so horrible! The bread, toppings, meat and cheese all was cheap and tasteless. If this was the last food on the planet, I'd starve to death. Gross place.

This is my favorite place for a stinky sub overflowing with pepperocinis, jalapenos and pickles- YUMMY. The Grecian is my absolute favorite sandwich and I don't think I've ordered anything else in all the years I've been going here. Their homemade potato salad is great too!

Dimitra's was finally sold ... and will soon reopen as "Mountain Mike's Pizza" (connected to the Mountain Mike's of Truckee, I presume).

Occasionally when friends come into town, we drive to Alameda just to get subs here. They're one of the few sandwich shops that knows to put oil, vinegar, salt and pepper on a proper sub. Plus, jalapenos! What the hell? Who puts jalapenos on a sub? What a great surprise. I miss this place so much...when I lived in Oakland we'd be here weekly...

Love their gyros. But I don't come here for sandwiches one because now there is Bacci and two because of the bread. But I do love their gyros.

This is my favorite place for an Italian sub in town. I always take it to go and enjoy it (ie, gobble it down totally rabid style) in the privacy of my own home. I haven't tried their gyros, which they are supposed to be world famous for because when I find something I like, I stick with it. This location once sold my sister and I bread when everywhere else on this god forsaken island that sold artisan bread was closed. Very nice. The people are always changing, but they're still always nice and make the sandwiches just the way I like 'em!

There weren't a lot of veggie options, but the sandwiches we got were made quickly and were tasty. Good for a quick bite on your way to the beach.

Just for kicks...why don't you try and complain to the manager/owner about something (the oversized guy with the pinched nasaly voice) and see how he treats you. I called as a courtesy to let him know that his turkey tasted "off". We ordered 3 sandwhiches from there, and my kids wouldn't eat theirs (A turkey and cheese to share) I tried a bite, and at first it was flavorless (like it was just cheap, watered down turkey) but then it left a nasty twang, like it was an old hunk of meat. It wasn't enough to make me go back there and get another--but it was enough to call him and give him a "courtesy" call. He said it wasn't possible since the meat was just sliced this morning. I suggested that maybe the whole hunk was bad, and he said that maybe there was something wrong with my tastebuds. I said "Is this how you treat customer complaints?" And he said "There is nothing wrong with our sandwhiches, they are excellent...Have a nice day maam" and hung up. I immediately called back, and said "Is hanging up how you deal with complaints? I would like my money back" and he said "We don't give money back, our sandwhiches are fine" so I kindly told him that he better hope that neither of my children got sick or he would definitely be hearing from me or my lawyer. I had the satisfaction of hanging up on him this time. (ps, I am not particularly proud of this but to give you an idea how enraged I was at the time) It would have been so much more pleasant, if he had just apologized for our dissatisfaction. I challenge you to complain about something and see if the charming gentleman handles your complaint with equal grace & aplomb :) Please tell us about your experience too! After 20 yrs of eating there, we won't be going back anytime soon.
