I really loved the bacon wrapped filet Minion. The green beans were from a can :(. I would choose the homemade mashed potatoes or baked potato both are amazing! Salad is basic. My kids absolutely loved the bean soup. They gave the soup a suburb rating. Great service. The decor is old but the restarant is clean.

This was such a disappointment. We were having a terrific day in an amazing town and thought to top it off with a steak dinner...Rod's was recommended by a shop owner but BIG mistake! Service was slow, and the waitress was just short of incompetent. Here's the rundown: *Questions us asking for a kids menu for the 10 year old in our group...10 and under includes 10! *Salad is bagged iceberg lettuce, carrots, cabbage. Extra dressing? "Oops" forgot again. Blue cheese was actually sour cream with garlic salt (um, what?) *yeast rolls were dessert sweet but still good until the 2nd basket came out with blackened tops. *Mashed potatoes were actually good but the brown gravy was definitely canned. *baked potato and French fries...nothing special but no complaints *Rib eye was small, lots of gristle and completely flavorless. *The kicker? $21.00 per plate. Normally no complaints on that price for ribeye but then again I expect it to be delicious as well. Those in charge should be ashamed of themselves!

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! And I'm sorry to say that but I have valid reasons to not come back, ever again. First of all: the service was not good: The lady came to our table after 10 minutes we were seated, she didn't bring water until the first course...no smile, no enthusiasm, she also claimed the steak we ordered was "rib eye", which it was not. Food was lousy: how can you serve ICEBERG salad in a steakhouse? how can you bring a piece of meet full of fat, nerves, and flat...and saying that's the rib eye???!! We also ordered the beef liver...which it was just disgusting and overcooked... We live in Scottsdale, AZ...and when we see "Steakhouse", we expect a REAL STEAKHOUSE with good meat!!!!!!! The Cabernet Sauvignon by the glass was also not great... For the poor quality that you get, food is also overpriced. VERY DISAPPOINTING! I personally won't come back ever again, and I will also discourage anyone who will ask me a place to eat in Williams. A restaurant with that food and that arrogance, deserves to be closed down!

I don't normally write reviews so for me to go out of my way to actually write up a review means this really was an unpleasant experience for myself and my family. The drinks, appetizers and the bread were amazing! There's a reason why the lights in this restaurant are so dim, because they don't want you to see how horrible the quality of their meat is. The waitress had everyone cut into their steaks and Filet Mignon to see if they were cooked to our liking. Some didn't see anything wrong right away and so we told her everything was good. My boyfriend noticed his was under cooked right away but decided to give it a chance anyways. As the night went on my boyfriend was very unhappy with how his meal was turning out and decided to return his plate back to the kitchen. The waitress did ask if a correction could be made but since the food took over 40 mins to arrive he said no and to take his plate off the bill. I luckily ordered the shrimp which wasnt too bad. All the plates were taken from our table unfinished. My sister was extremely upset so she asked the waitress to speak to the manager. Some employee who wasn't the manager came to our table to look at the plates and asked where they were. The waitress told him they were already sent back to he kitchen. She then came back once again with out a manager but with the bill and said we could pay at the front. The bill came out to about $240! We all went to the front to discuss our experience with the manager and claimed he was going to call the cops if we didn't pay our bill. That is no way to handle a situation with unsatisfied customers, he didn't even try to work with us at all. It was our bad to tell the waitress everything was alright when she asked us the first time, however it was barely the start of our meal and we were trying to give it a shot. Save yourself the money and time and check out Red Raven for some steaks which I wish we could of done. After talking to a local about this restaurant it seems like this place isnt what it used to be. Quality has gone down & owners treat their employees poorly. Next time I visit Willams I'll know where not to go.

The only Steakhouse in town, and been here forever - it is an institution in Williams and a route 66 landmark for travelers. If you are a red meat eater this place is for you. The restaurant is actually quite large on the inside. Lots of tables and can be very busy at times. I've eaten here a dozen times or better, over the past 30 years on various trips, at different times of the year and days of the week - whenever I'm in town and looking for a steak. It is consistently a good decent meal. Nothing fancy about it. This establishment is very old route 66 influenced - lots of old art and old route 66 memorabilia in the foyer/waiting area at the front end of the house. Known for its steaks - Rod's is the place - going here and ordering something else seems foolish - this is not a vegetarian restaurant so do not go in expecting anything close to that. Large, red meat portions with baked or mashed potatoes, steak fries or rice pilaf and ice berg lettuce salads are the norm. Local raised beef, usually cooked to perfection in a true old route 66 restaurant that has been on the Williams landscape for decades - it's a great tourist stop and makes a fairly decent meal. It needs updating, not the fanciest place in town - but you can't eat decor. A Solid 3 Stars. 00182

I'll always give a place a couple of trys to see if they can get it right the second time. I ate there last year and it was just ok. Went back again this week and unfortunately, it wasn't any better. I really want to like this place but the only thing that gives this restaurant any merit based on my 2 experiences is the homeade blue cheese dressing. It may be the tastiest dressing I have had, it actually salvaged the limp iceberg salad. Our server, Carmelo brought us burnt rolls. How can that be Ok to serve? He did however, replace them with better rolls .We ordered the cattlemans cut and lite cut of prime rib. They came out cold and my cut was nothing but a gelatenous piece of blah. I told him it did not look right and he said "That's how it is supposed to look" I said "I eat prime rib in Tucson and no, that is not how it is supposed look." He asked if i wanted it back on the grill I said "Thank you, I would really appreciate that." He brought it back...It looked better and tasted ok. But he left the same mashed potatoes on the plate, they were so cold. At this point, I didn't want to send my plate back again, He seemed to not care if we enjoyed our meal or not. I think they were going to offer me money off my tab but I expressed my opinion paid the full price and left a decent tip despite his unpleasant demeanor. Mr. & Mrs. Sanchez, you seem like nice people. But there is a disconnect with the presentation and quality of your food. I would scrutinize every plate that leaves the line and ask yourselves" Would I eat that?" I have no problem paying $$$$ for a great meal and stellar service. I turned down Red Raven because my fiance' wanted to eat here.

I loved the kitschy atmosphere of Rod's! Williams is a cute little Western town on the way to the Grand Canyon, and Rod's Steak House fits right in. Now, this wasn't the kind of food I make at home- not a lot of veggies, iceberg lettuce in the salad, BUT I found the prime rib to be spectacular. Probably the best slice of prime rib I've ever eaten, seasoned beautifully, very flavorful and tender. I ordered it rare and it came rare, which shouldn't be a big deal but kind of is! I also loved the baked potato I got on the side, it had a super crusty skin and came with the perfect amount of butter and sour cream. The next time we visit the Grand Canyon, we'll stop into Rod's again for a big slab of beef!

Not sure what is up with all these bad reviews but this place is AWESOME!!! After a long day of travel and exploring this place was the perfect ending to a fantastic day! The prime rib was phenomenal as well as the ribeye. There wasn't a single item that came to our table that wasn't up to our standards. I recommend the fried zucchini as an appetizer and make sure you get their special margarita. Honestly not sure how you can say a bad thing about this place. What a great place!!!

Texas is supposed to have the best steak? I live in Texas and the best steak I ever had was at this steak house in Arizona!!! I love Williams. It was a cute little town. Glad we stopped here on our way to Vegas!

Great food and excellent service . Order the steak and lobster and steak was really juicy lobster was perfect .

  • Sara C.

Not impressed with the "bagged salad" that came with dinner. My filet mignon was burnt in the top & was over cooked- I sent it back. Fried chicken was fried "too much," just too hard to enjoy. The yeast rolls were really good. Kids "chicken puffs" (really homemade nuggets) were very good. Kids Mac & cheese is simply Kraft. Not worth $9 kids meal.

  • Chris W.

Service better than food . Steak was large portion but quality could have been better

  • Andy M.

Crappy. Bad service, bad food and high bill. When asked what the soup is, the "waitress" replied, "it's like noodles and vegetables or something". Crumby salad, I think it was out of a bag. One of us braved the soup, he said there were about 4 noodles. They claim to be a steakhouse, so you'd think they'd have a decent ribeye. I can't say for sure how their ribeye is, because I'm not sure if I had one. It's what I ordered though. It was the puniest, yuckiest steak I've ever had. I'm pretty sure everyone's meal came out of a can, including the steak. They weren't busy, I think we were one of 4 or 5 tables. We got there at 3, had drinks by 3:30, salad after 4:00, dinners about 5:15, the check by 5:20. At least they brought 1 thing fast, I guess.

    (1)
  • Twinkie M.

Ribeye was bland;needed A1 steak sauce for flavor. Food took longer than normal to come out. Green beans were not up to par. I remember our first visit here 3 years ago being much better. Will probably not visit again.

I'm sorry but this is not a good steak restaurant!! I had the ladies cut Prime and it was tough! I ordered it raw! Did not get horseradish! The waiter was friendly. Ordered wine by the glass and got the little bottle of Barefoot. I'm not a big fan of Barefoot wine. They served sweet biscuits with the salad which was good. My husband got the regular size prime. It was a little better than mine, but still subpar!

  • Dan D.

Service was outstanding, the food was great and came promptly and the bartender made great drinks!! Definitely recommend for a nice dinner.

    (5)
  • Mike M.

We ordered top sirloin, prime rib and petite steak, they we all tough, and not best quality. Server was ok but a female server was giving dirty looks after we complained. I will never come back or recommend this restaurant to anyone.

    (1)
  • Tai H.

There was nothing special about it. I spent $82 plus tip for my family but the steak I had was tough to chew and much too charred, I could taste bitterness in the meat. My eldest daughter comments that she didn't much like it either and it was hard for her to eat anything! The service was slightly slow but our waiter was friendly. I'm fairly disappointed about what I heard. I expected it to be better than what I anticipated but truly, it was not at all!

  • Hank W.

Just a good basic steakhouse. Nothing to write home about and found nothing wrong. Service was good.

  • A M.

Very good prime rib....excellent service...mom and pop atmosphere.. Great dinner : ))

    (5)
  • Robert W.

Wish I would have gone to McDonald's I would rate the service, but we didn't have any. I'd rate the food, but it never came. I'd rate the drinks, but they evaporated before they got to my table. Seriously, go anywhere else in Williams.

    (2)
  • Myles L.

The only reason this place gets 4 stars is because the STEAK WAS EXCELLENT(the most important part of a steakhouse)... But the service was absolutely horrible. I will return for the steak. I can put up with bad service to have a steak that good!

    (4)
  • Ashley P.

3 stars?! Seriously?! We enjoyed this place a lot! I had the prime rib and it was nice that 50% of the steak wasn't fat. The other person had the ribeye which they said was excellent. I lived in Texas and this place holds up! Plus Javier our server was awesome!

    (5)
  • Cristina G.

Amazing meat!! We had the prime rib, delicious, rare, soft and the t bone steak was also very good. The service was great !!

    (5)
  • Mark M.

The steak was pretty good. The soup tasted like it was out of a can. My wife's salad looked good. Potato was good. Service was adequate, but there were only 3 other people there. I probably wouldn't eat here again for the price.

  • Alejandro B.

THE place to go in Williams! Nice authentic Western style, very good food (Go for the SOB burger if you like juicy and spicy at the same time). The staff is super friendly, prices are very reasonable and the food is for real... Meaning this is not a tourist trap

    (4)
  • Vadim S.

It's a nice and cozy place. Food is good. The only thing is we were waiting for a long while for food to reach our table. And for some reason when I asked for HOT tea I got a room temperature water. Oh, and why is the waiter so unhappy and seems somewhat agitated?!?!

    (3)
  • John D.

Ordered the BBC pulled pork sandwich. It was good. Fast friendly service. Clean restaurant and restrooms.

    (3)
  • Kevin M.

Not impressed, microwaved bread, small portioned cuts of prime rib. Very fatty. Best thing I had was the chili bean soup. Delicious. Would Not recomend.

    (2)
  • David H.

Mediocre food! The sirloin steak that is "the best" was barely seasoned and the best part of the meal was the rolls. The price was ridiculously high for the food quality. I will not be coming back.

We came into town and decided to try Rod's after seeing 2 signs on the freeway. We were starving after being on the road for 6 hours. We ordered 2 ribeyes and lobster and I ordered prime rib and lobster. When the food came out it was under seasoned and cold. My husband ate his but my lobster was so tough that I sent it back bc it was so over cooked. My prime rib was supposed to be med rare but it was served med well. The prime rib was the worst ever. Overcooked and tasteless. When my reordered lobster came out it was raw!!! Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse I found a bug in my drink!!! Despite the waitress trying her best to be nice there was no attempt for service recovery and no apology for our horrific dining experience. After we regretfully paid our undeserving 200.00 tab we all left feeling disgusted and dissatisfied.

  • Ron F.

The steaks were good, the salad that was served lacked crispness and garden choices. The service was good but personality wasn't there, this family operation could use some help from an outsider. Nepotism seems to be present at this establishment.

    (3)
  • Larry S.

The rolls and potato was great but the ribeye steak must have been a utility grade. Cooked a nice medium rare but could not chew it!

    (1)
  • B M.

Worst steak I've had in a long time was less that 1/4 inch thick . Come on Larry put a better product in your store

    (1)
  • Ashley E.

Service wasn't the best. Ordered the teriyaki steak and the prime rib both were terrible. Nothing teriyaki about the steak, my husband said it was like getting a steak at a gas station. My prime rib was barely warm and could hardly saw through it with my knife. Total disappointment, will never be back.

    (2)
  • Jeroen B.

Old kitchy Route 66 styled restaurant. Decent service and excellent food. The chips where perfect and homemade, my sirloin grillend to perfection and a large portion too. The starter ( salad) was a bit simple ( iceberg lettuce and dressing)

    (4)
  • Pat C.

Our waitress was was friendly. Hubby and I both went for the rib eye steak. I asked our server how the green beans were and she said, they were canned. So, I went with the baked potato. The salad dressing was sour cream with a touch of blue cheese, the steak was tough but flavorful. I will say the bread rolls were very good. Oh and I asked for a glass of wine and it came out in a little twist top bottle. I will not go back.

  • Yvonne W.

We came here at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon. I was a little nervous because we were the only ones here at first, and I read the other reviews. We were giving a lunch menu, but the steak choices were limited. Our server gladly gave us the dinner menu. We both ordered the New York steak. It was a generous portion of aged beef cooked to perfection. The steak was flavorful and tender. If you're looking for a good steak, give this place a try.

  • Andrew A.

I don't get the positive reviews of this place. I guess if you are absolutely desperate, it might be passable, but otherwise can't recommend. Appetizer of "fire" wings were probably the blandest thing I've had in ages, mother's stuffed jalapenos were good, only good thing we had. Her charred steak was absolutely appalling, an unidentifiable cut of beef with a thin layer of sugar that was less caramelized or charred and more painted black, resulting in an undercooked, nearly sickeningly sweet lump of meat. Also gave her horrible intestinal problems. My prime rib was just not that good, too much steak sauce and rather tough. Fries that came with it were tasteless, flaccid, and cold. Service was good, atmosphere on the divey side of antique, pricing too high for the product, noise level was on the high side of average. Also, there are no doors in the bathrooms, which led to an awkward moment when another diner walked in on me using the toilet. It may be the best place in Williams, but that says more about the Williams restaurant scene than Rod's.

  • Bruce B.

Hasn't Changed in 35 years, still the best! Like Beef? Like Steak? Rod's has been an Arizona landmark in historic Williams along Route 66 since 1946. My favorite? The 16oz T-Bone grilled up medium-rare... Mmmm! The Special Charred Steak is also leaves a lasting memory and your taste buds wanting more... Historic Williams is a delightful destination for couples or families and Rod's is the place to eat!

    (4)
  • Zeke E.

Nostalgic yes and in this iconic Route 66 town that will grab you 2 starts. The quality of the food the preparation are lacking any sense of savory. So enjoy the historical dust collectors it's the only redeeming item on the menu

Day two of a road trip from LA to Colorado and up to Seattle. Just finished a leg from Vegas to Williams. Stopped off to get something to eat. The highway exit signs had the little gas symbol, the little fork and knife symbol, and then a cow. We followed the signs to the cow, figuring it had to be a restaurant. And then, we saw it. A neon cow hanging over Rod's. Fair enough. Cow it is. The sign underneath it said THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYERS FOR MY MOMMA. That's when I knew we had to go in. So we did. Service was pretty slow. And we felt somewhat out of place. The prices were decent, for Los Angeles where I'm from, but seemed a little high for the middle of nowhere in Arizona. Must be that Grand Canyon tourist price increase. I got the sirloin. It was good. Not great. The tiny menu said that they got their beef from the best sources obtainable. That sounds like a quality guarantee if I ever heard one. Maybe their ability to obtain quality beef was diminished in the first week of April 2013. I won't ever find out, I don't think. Rod's special margarita is a regular margarita. Good. But not special. The bathroom is downstairs and the ceiling is so low if you're over 6' you will have to duck. Heads up. Actually, heads down.

Perfect spot after the train ride from the Canyon. Came back starving. I literally could and did eat a cow.

This was my second choice for steak in this town. The only reason why I ate here was because there was a parade going on across town at the red raven (where I was going to go) and couldn't get pass traffic. The service wasn't great. The waiter only came to our table to bring our food, remove it and give us our tab. Didnt come once to ask us for refills on our drinks. We actually had to remind him to get our drinks. I ordered the prime steak and baked potatoe. The steak wasn't all that top and the potatoe was the only good thing. I also ordered a famous margarita which tasted a lot like jose cuervo margarita mix. Salad did taste and look like it was out of the bag. Overpriced food for poor service and food. Overall, won't come back. Stay away!

Food was very good! However, the need to increase the size of there staff. In the hour or so we were there, they lost at least 6 tables because they couldn't get them seated in time. I would definitely return!

Loved this steakhouse, like stepping back in time to the 40's! My prime rib was tender, juicy, & the yeast rolls were very yummy, Reminded me of my Grandmothers bread rolls. My only suggestion is to season the prime rib a little more.. I love a crusty flavorful side or end-cut.

  • Doris B.

We saw the mixed reviews for this place and decided to try it out for ourselves and actually were pleasantly surprised. We had good service, the sauteed mushrooms and chicken wings were a hit with our party of eight. Some had a NY, some the prime rib and everything was very tasty. No complaints here. If you are in town and looking for a good steak I would recommend you give this place a try!

A Flagstaff native told me that if I was ever in WIlliams that I needed to go to Rod's Steakhouse. I am glad I did. It was amazing. The steak was perfect, the place was clean and the ambiance was very pleasant. The prices weren't bad for what you got (and this is keeping in mind that everything in Williams is ridiculous, even the tax is over 10% if I remember correctly) This is a very cool landmark that deserves a stop. You won't be disappointed. (I was almost enough to calm my seething rage over the speeding ticket I got earlier the same night. Travelers beware, they are not afraid to cite you for 5-over here.)

Visited Rod's for a late lunch and the place was nearly empty. No worries, I was here to eat, not people-watch. I chose the petite sirloin with steak fries and started with their homemade pinto bean soup. This soup took me back to my mother's kitchen when she would whip up a "pot of beans," as she called it. Pinto beans, onions, peppers, and I can't remember what else, but sooooo good, especially with the warm yeast rolls and butter. Wow. I was off to a great start. The petite sirloin was cooked properly, very tasty, and a generous portion for a lunch dish. The steak fries, though ... OMG, the steak fries! Large wedges with crazy crispy skins, borderline charred, but in a perfect way. Best steak fries ever. Wish I could have gone back for dinner, as they have a steak on the menu that is given a brown sugar rub and then seared. Man, that sounds wildly yummy. Oh well. Now I have something to look forward to trying on my next pass through charming Williams, AZ!

Came here for dinner after a loooong Grand Canyon backpacking trip, and boy were we ready for a good meal. Expected In a small town, the decorations and set up in the steak house was cheesy bit, but not awful. Quiet, dim lit set up... And lots of Christmas lights everywhere. We did some local beers, and my buddy started off with the shrimp cocktail. 4 shrimps??!! Pretty bad call, not good at all. Biscuits with honey came out, and they were one of the best parts of the meal. We also got salads. For the money we were spending, the salads we very cheap, not fresh, and dressing came in a side plastic cup... Not appealing. I got the top soloing medium rare with a baked potatoe. Steak was great, and I enjoyed it with no complaints! Baked potatoe was mediocre at best. Buddies ordered the filet minon, and were not impressed. In fact, one buddy said his was over cooked. Price was steep, for such a mediocre restaurant, but then again, for a town like Williams, this could be the cream of the crop, but definitely not to my standards.

I always try to take into consideration the area you are in when giving a review. this is a steakhouse in Wililams Arizona, not Las Vegas or some other major city. We went at about 3 pm and were given the lunch menu, which mostly consisted of sandwiches. as this was going to be our main meal of the day, we asked if we could have dinner, and they gave us the dinner menu, which consists of steaks and hearty dinners. After we ordered we were served a basket of tasty rolls with some local honey. We each got steaks and baked potatoes, and they were all perfectly cooked and tasty. We liked everything. I even got the house special, which was a steak rubbed in sugar. sounded bizarre, but I was curious and it was tasty. All the steaks were nicely charred on the outside and perfectly cooked as requested. Dinners came with salads which were your standard iceberg lettuce but they were adequate. Service was a little slow, because there were several tables in there but only one waiter. He told us the other waiter called in, so he was taking care of everything. I was worried our food would sit in the kitchen for a while because he was so busy, but it didn't and everything came out piping hot. I think our waiter did a great job for being so harried, our drinks were kept full. I thought the prices were on point for the food and the location of the restaurant and we all enjoyed our food. Dinners came with salad and potato.

After reading reviews for Williams, AZ decided on Rod's. So glad bcz hubby & son had the 10 oz ribeye special & I had the cod, which was huge ! Yeast rolls were blackened on top and not that great. Service ppl (5) were standing around talking - perhaps about the 30 biker's impending reservation. Very good for price considering what other restaurants menu's were charging for a steak ! Would return to try prime rib !!

For us, this was one of the highlights of our trip. My New York strip was cooked perfectly, and was a good size. My wife's Sirloin was also very tender and cooked just right. Portions were generous and our waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive. The decor is strictly from the 40's, a little dark, but restful. For us, it lived up to its reputation !

Great quality meat. The food was awesome and reasonable. Went there expecting a normal stake but it was surprisingly amazing. Had a great time, also service was great. really enjoyed it. you should totally check it out

After a very long day on Route 66, we pulled into Williams, AZ for the night and were hungry as heck. Rod's steakhouse was mentioned by name in my guidebook so we opted to try it out. The service was average but the food was pretty darn good. The portions were gigantic, as is evident by the prime rib photo I have posted. If you are in the area and are craving beef, this is the place for you.

mediocre, overpriced food delivered with friendly but very very slow service. went for dinner at 6pm. we were seated right away. the owner stoppe at the table next to ours, she knew omeone there, but didnt seem interested in talking to any other patrons. we ordered a shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, it was 10 dollars and came with 4 soggy shrimp. i ordered Dans famous margarita, it was 9 dollars and tasted very watered down, the sirloins, mine and my husbands, were 2 thin slices of dry, flavorless meat, they were pricey at 20 bucks (better steak at outback for 1/3 the price. the kids sirloin had no flavor and was actually ground beef with a wierd texture. we were served 1 round of rolls while we waited over 30 minutes for our food. i would not go back, ever. it gets a 3 from me because the spicy potato soup was good amd the server was pleasant and i guess its just an experience to have while in williams.

I am shocked at the positive reviews. Let me start with something positive. The coffee was very good. The rolls were burnt, not a little too brown. I mean black on top. I can't believe they actually brought them to the table. The salad was okay if you don't want dressing. We ordered Bleu cheese. It tasted NOTHING like Bleu cheese. It looked and tasted like lumpy sour cream. We ordered medium well steak and lobster. My husbands was undercooked. Mine was tough, but had okay flavor. We had to ask twice for steak sauce. The lobster was tough on top and way under cooked on the bottom. I think they are reusing the drawn butter for the lobster. Mine had food particles in the bottom when they brought it. The baked potato, which was just average, was the best part of the meal. This is one of the worst meals I have ever had. I'm afraid my family is going to be sick tomorrow!

This is a stop in Williams, AZ off route 66. My husband was told about it from a coworker. Now note: There are two different entrances (either one is fine) but you can get to it on either side of Route 66. Hubby and I went here for our anniversary dinner and I have to say it was really enjoyable. I ordered the teriyaki steak (I know it sounds kind of odd but do it....yes...do it stop arguing.) When our food came out, our waiter actually asked us to cut into our steak to make sure it was cooked how we requested....look I've been to some pretty snazzy steak houses and NONE of them have had the guts to ask me to do that. I was IMPRESSED, and for the record our steaks were cooked to perfection. This restaurant has passed through 3 owners and the current owner started as a bus boy. His values are great and it shows in his food and his employees. This is a must stop in Williams. I will certainly be a repeat client when I go back.

Very disappointing. The quality of the food versus the price you pay was completely unacceptable. Low budget wine you find at a gas station, wilted tasteless salad from a bag, cold and undercooked baked potatoes, green beans from a can, whipped butter from a container and flavorless, low quality steaks. Thanks for ripping us off! Will never go back or recommend this sub par eatery.

We came in for a late lunch and caught them off guard I think. They handed us lunch menus, but as a Route 66 fan, I have been waiting a few years to try this place. The place is Route 66 inside and out. FUN! I asked if we could order dinner and the waiter said, "Yes, but there are no baked potatoes or green beans ready yet." No problem. I just wanted a steak. The salad was iceburg, but after 3 days eating freeze dried food in Supai, the fresh, crunchy lettuce was wonderful. The blue cheese didn't come out of any bottle either. The biscuits were reheated and hard though. Again, they didn't expect to serve dinner for lunch.Maybe they should have made a fresh batch, but I guess there was no one to make them at the time. My husband ordered the prime rib. He said it was good. I ordered the Rod's special steak which was dipped in sugar and seared. I guess i didn't expect so much sugar or I would have used a small amount of brown sugar and mixed it with cayenne or something. Just a bit too sweet and overpowers the taste of the meat which was done PERFECTLY by the way. The taste was not the restaurant's fault. It's just a personal preference thing. Both the server and the chef were VERY nice. It was so relaxing. All in all, a good experience. We will be back.

I ate lunch here with my granddaughter. My steak was OK, but her lunch off the kid menu was boxed mac and cheese, canned green beans and really awful steak fries. They charged $8 for it. I had a side of potato salad that obviously came from a tub. It was terrible. The only distinctive flavor of the white rolls was sugar. This meal might have made the cut at an elementary school cafeteria, but certainly nowhere else other than a prison, perhaps. $27 meal for two, with most of it left on the table.

Place was empty when we got there, should have been first clue! Ordered a Rod's famous margarita, it was served in a beer glass and awful! Waiter took our order, brought cold, store bought rolls with cold butter packets, like a cafeteria ! Salad was cheap iceberg lettuce. I ordered a Filet Mignon, and baked potato. The meat is advertised as fresh daily, NOT! The steak looked old, half was cooked right, other half well done. How do you do that? No taste, suppose to be smoked. Potato was served with 2 packets of cold butter. Server was nice though.

It pains me to write this review as my family has been coming to Rod's since the 1950s. I can no longer recommend this landmark restaurant. I ordered the charred steak and spent most of the time chewing gristle. I put more chewed steak back on the plate than I swallowed. Green beans were offered as a side and they were straight from the can. No seasoning. Neither my wife nor my daughter touched there's. The fries should be steak fries at a steakhouse. These were just fries that where over-cooked in old oil. The salad was tasty but nothing to write home about. The children's menu included no steak. We ordered the ground sirloin tips in the shape of a steer and it was dry and flavorless. On the upside, our waitress was pleasant. I think Rod's is counting on the tourist crowd and its tradition but is losing repeat patrons. It's a viable candidate for Food Network's "Restaurant Impossible." Rod's needs better cuts of beef and fresher alternatives. There are other places in town that will take away business unless Rod's shakes things up. I want to come back and keep the family tradition going. Please Rod's, improve. Williams would not be the same without you.

Very friendly people and the steak I had was very good. So why 3 stars? 2 very important reasons. #1 - Time. Took forever for the steaks to come and then for them to take our money and what not afterward. Ended up arriving at the Grand Canyon with only 10 minutes of light left. Not fair to lump that all on them no, but it is notable that we were here for over an hour and I don't really remember many other diners. #2 - Asked for steak medium rare, didn't have an ounce of pink in it. Don't get me wrong it was still good, but I like my steaks rare not just because of the flavor, but they're much easier to chew and my teeth tire quickly, so was kinda bummed half way in when my teeth were hurting. Other then that, great steak that you could tell was fresh. Sides were good, brother got sliders that he loved, and I'd definately come here again if I was in the area.

Lured by the neon cow sitting on top of this said restaurant, Hubby and I decided it was the perfect place to devour some steaks. He had the T-Rex...I mean the T bone steak and I had the sugar coated steak. I liked the fact that they had a lady cut but I didn't get that one. The place was decent enough. It was dark and eccentric looking. I like the cow-shaped menus. The food was good and the prices did not ruin the mood for the evening.

Went driving through Williams to check out another diner that Bearizona recommended but happened to be closed. Me and my friend saw the giant cow sign and wanted to grab a picture of it and go inside and get some food. I mean who doesnt love a good steak! However when we entered to establishment it just seemed overly dark and the host could barely speak english let alone understand it. I had a Licensed Service Dog who was with me. She had a vest on identifying her as a service dog and tags both on her vest and on my waist. The guy asked me if she was a SERVICE DOG. I replied yes she is a service dog (This is a question that he is allowed to ask!) However after he asked me for my license and ID's! I replied calmly and respectfully that Federal and State law does not require licenses and it is the reason why legally you are not allowed to demand paperwork. He replied by asking me several more times over and over for paperwork for my dog. Finally he gave up and said ok go sit over there! He pointed to a tiny table in the corner and didnt even walk us over or hand us a menu at all. Literally just said sit over there and pointed. After we sat down and tried to wipe the bad taste that we had already in our mouths before even sitting the owners wife walked up put the tiny menu on the table. (Which that menu is to darn small and the writing is tiny and impossible to read in that dark resturant.) Anywho she then stood there condescendingly and then demanded that I had her license or paperwork for my service dog. I replied again both federal and state law doesnt require any team to have paperwork so I cant hand mine to you (although if she would have just took the time to look at the vest the paperwork was hanging from my dogs vest.) Regardless of that she then replied with we dont doubt your dog is a service dog but we need the paperwork. I was thinking well if you dont doubt it then why do you feel the need to be disrespectful and annoying and demand paperwork. She then said well we ask for paperwork everytime of other service dogs and they give it to us. She said this to try and make me feel like what I knew the laws were was wrong and that she knew them. Appareantly knowing the law and trying to inform this woman she said I was being rude and disrespectful. I finally just wanted her away from me and told her the licenses and paperwork were right there and pointed to them on my dogs vest. She refused to even look down. She expected me to pull them from the vest and stick them to her so she could go copy them or something. I finally just wanted her away and shut up so I used the ones on my belt attached to a zip cord and put up to where she could then see it. She replied with you dont have to be rude in a extremely rude mannor again then finally after being aggressive for a few more seconds walked off. We finally looked at the menu and saw the food and prices. For one the prices seem a bit ridiculous and they really are. Now if I was eating at a resturant like this in LA the price would be fine and understandable. However with all that person put me and my service dog and friend through we were done and couldnt care less to eat at such a rude place so we got up and left. I think that was exactly what the woman wanted instead of breaking the law and refusing a service dog. However I am reporting her to AZ Federal and State Law officials and ADA. After we left we ended up nextdoor at a wonderful resturant owned by the mayor of Williams and we got to meet the Mayor of williams. Its directly off to the right if your looking at this dud of a resturant which needs to be the next episode of GORDON RAMSAYS KITCHEN NIGHTMARES!!!!!! Please take your business to another resturant this place was darn near empty and I see why. When we finished eating at the other resturant I went back with my friend and we got the name of both owners Lawrence S. Sanchez, Stella K. Sanchez and she wanted to talk to them about what they did and the guy for one tried to scare of muscle my friend and then his wife once he was there got louder and more aggressive because her muscle showed up lol. Anywho the guy Lawrence said to my friend that he doesnt care what state and federal law is that is what they require. In short dont go here please go to the place next door and support a real resturant with great food and great people. Support a good place that cares about the customer vs ones who treat you like dirt and over charge the heck out of you.

Lackluster at best. Heard a lot of god things about RodS and was anticipating a great eating memory. Poor service started off the adventure right from the get go. We ordered onion rings and fried zucchini. The plates they served for the appetizers were ice cold, the apps were not even Luke-warm. The positive side of the meal was the warm yeast rolls and the meat was of high quality and well prepared. There was 6 people in our party, including 2 kids, and the bill came out to ) $190. Not worth it and the kids wanted McDonalds afterwards. Cool place, nice atmosphere and interesting rest rooms...the owners since 1985 still come to work every night and put a personal touch on the place, but I really don't recommend this to sit down and eat. You'll leave disappointed and little lighter in the wallet.

It's not too bad but certainly not as great as I expected after reading some of the reviews. The meat (we had T-bone) wasn't cooked as ordered, one part was medium and the other medium-rare. My French fries were covered with a thick layer of salt, I happen to like salt but most people would have sent them back I think. No woodfire grilling which, in my opinion would do wonders for the meat.

Every steak-loving adventurer on their way to the Grand Canyon needs to spend an afternoon being charmed by Williams, Arizona and an evening here enjoying a steak you will remember for years. Four years in my case. My husband, my mother and I still recall the night with fondness.

Medium well steak was good and a bit crisp. Potato wedges a+ If you want potatoes get these. I suggest against the coleslaw. Steak burger was pretty delicious. Bottom bun was a bit soggy and meat was a pinch chard. The cheese broccoli soup was tasty but not as described. The steak melt was also quite scrumptious.

Stopped on a road trip from California to Pennsylvania and all nine in our party were pleased. Menu prices and portions were reasonable and food was of very good quality given the prices. Our waiter was friendly and the somewhat dated interior had a nostalgic charm appropriate for route 66. This restaurant was very food allergy friendly and readily worked with the member of our party with a gluten allergy.

Short and sweet: quaint, friendly service from the time we walked in. Carmelo was the most attentive waiter I have ever had. He insisted on taking my coffee, because he said it was cold. He brought me a fresh hot cup. Nice! The TBone was perfectly cooked, the rolls smelled like they were fresh out of the oven, the pinto bean soup was so very flavorful. I loved the old school cattle dishes and the story placemats. Terrific place to eat!

Service was very slow. Kids meals were $9 and the kids fish meal came with three super tiny fish "sticks." Not a good value and not worth the wait. Try another place.

As a sales rep for the Grand Canyon Railway, I dined here for lunch every Monday for years. The food and service was always the best in town. I even met Kenny Rogers here. Returning to Williams later this month and a stop at Rod's will a top priority!

great steak house and I would return....Prime Rib was a nice large cut and cooked as ordered, not anything special flavor wise. Some steaks do seam to come out better than others...stick with the sirloin or have a charred steak, sides were good and the apple pie was amazing (get a piece of pie) drinks were rather pricey but at that altitude you get a quick buzz Great Steak House Atmosphere, nice cow shaped menu and very good service...If you want a nice steak dinner I would go here

My prime rib was as close to perfect as I could ask. Had no problems with getting refills on our drinks and our server was very attentive. We have eaten here before several years ago and was looking forward to a return visit that did not disappoint.

The absolute worst dining experience I've ever had. The restaurant is dingy. The menu is way overpriced. The service was substandard. The food was substandard. I would go so far as to wonder if some on the positive reviews here aren't salted. Williams is a tourist town. A trap. This restaurant fits nicely into that category. In the interest of review fairness I'd love to say something...anything positive about Rod's. I can't.

Excellent family run restaurant with real history and an old time feel. First t-bone I've had in a LONG time. Try Rod's for a great steak and a trip back in time.

Stopped by on the way to NM and had lunch. My wife and I split the prime rib dip with steak fries. It was very good. On the way back through we stopped again and each had the prime rib dip again. It was even better than the first time. The prime rib was great quality and prepared med. rare just the way we like it. The steak fries were hot and fresh. We had to take some home with us as the portions were huge. This place is an older place but very very clean. I would eat here every time when in Williams. I don't know about the low rating Rod's got from some people on here. You can not control if people take thier hats off while dining. The quality of the meat is excellant and would never compare to a crappy sizzler.

I had the special steak coated in sugar. I made the mistake of ordering it medium, not realizing it would be a pretty thin cut and medium was just too tough as a result. The price was ok considering that soup or salad and a side are included. Our party also ordered the NY strip, boiled fish, and prime rib; they were all satisfactory. The service was great and the place was clean and friendly. Not a place I would wish to revisit again.

4/21/12 Terrible. The "hostess" was so rude, and the slowest moving person I've ever seen. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks, I really wish we would have left. The food wasn't very good. My wifes steak was over cooked, my prime rib tasted like it had been re-heated in the microwave, and the kids meal was $9. for some chicken nuggets and fries. Service was very very slow. We were there for over an hour for lunch. It's the worst $65.00 I've ever spent and I will never go back to this place. One star is way too generous.

We stopped in on a very slow day at lunch and got great service from our waiter. He knew I wanted to try the sugar dipped steak but the cut was to big so he said he could have the cook cut me a small size portion. That's great customer service! The cut was not the choicest but we are not talking Morton's here. It was cooked right, tasted good and I was satisfied. And they must have changed the salad dressings because I got blue cheese and it was great. I just wish more places would use croutons and red onions on a salad, but that's my personal choice. Loved the cow cut menus. As far the inside of this place goes, it's cool. You have to go downstairs to use the restrooms, and I don't know about the men's, but the ladies was a trip. Clean, but I felt like I was back in grade school, or my shower. Overall we would stop again if we where in Williams.

Do not waste your time or money. Slow bur friendly service. We ordered steaks med rare and all 4 steaks did not have any pink in them at all. Only good thing were the hot rolls. Not worth the money!! Also a steak house should have a better variety of steaks. Not just sirloin.

    (1)
  • Ashlie B.

This place was amazing!! I ordered the top sirloin (rare). it was perfect!! My family ordered the chard sugar steak, it was really tasty as well!! You have to try the rolls and the blue cheese dressing!! the service was really good as well. Our waiter was very attentive and came back to ask us if we needed anything quite often. Next time I am in Williams, Az I am coming back!

  • Kavin P.

Given the price paid for the steaks here, we expected something better. The service was horrible, as we were constantly asking for water refills. It's hot and dry here, so we were thirsty. However, the server stopped us from refilling our sodas (who does that?). Also while signing for the bill, we asked him to refill our glasses and he ended up overfilling them because he was peeking at the tip amount (probably afraid that we weren't going to tip). For the bad service and being overpriced, this should be around a 1.5.

First class steak house with lots of history. We had the strip steak (20.00) which included salad. This was a large cut that was cooked and tasted to perfection. good service. Excellent.

I most heartily concur with the reviews by James J., Robert E. and Crystal L. This place had a very good reputation, but it has really gone downhill with the cheapest meat they can acquire. They appeal more to the foreign tourists who have no idea what a good American steak dinner should taste like. E.g. Cattlemen's Steakhouse in Oklahoma City or Jamil's in Tulsa, OK.

Although I came here in a big group of tourist, it does not excuse the fact that I can't choose the wellness/ rareness of my steak. The service is pretty non existing. Understandable that there are many tourist and the servers are unable to communicate with moat of the guests, I on the other hand can. After I asked for a medium rare steak, they said they all come at house temperature...whatever the heck that means...after that, nothing and no refills of the drinks. Service is a POS, and so is the food, just go to the neighboring jack in the box or pizza hut because you would go in with a low expectation and then come out smiling :D

Wine and beer list is very limited. House wines are disgusting. Wait staff knew nothing about any of the drinks other than the domestic beers. Ordered 1 petite, 1 top sirloin, 1 prime rib. All were cooked as ordered and decent cuts. Horseradish was obviously from a jar. Sent back my green beans as they were literally ice cold. Wouldn't go back or recommend. It was just so-so overall.

My husband I drove up for his 44th birthday. Rod's was right across the street from our hotel. I read the reviews that have been previously posted and my husband and I had an wonderful experience there. The waiter was attentive and sat us at our table right away. He gave us a brief history of the place. I ordered the Rod's Special Charred Steak, which was very good. The cut of beef wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either. The steak was flavorful none the less. I chose to have the tomato basil soup which was very good and not over done. I have to say that was the best soup I've had in a long time. The meal and atmosphere was wonderful and the waiter was a pleasant surprise. I'm actually glad I hadn't checked out yelp prior to eating there as I don't believe I would have otherwise.

Do not eat here!!! I only gave it one star because it doesn't let you give zero or neg ratings. Otherwise it would be -10. The service was terrible, I felt intimidated to ask for anything. The waiter made a smart remark when I asked for a second glass of wine. Chicken wings were still raw. The blue cheese salad dressing tasted vile. Bread was doughy. The NY steak was tough, grisly, and raw. My dog would have turned up her nose. Husband had teriyaki steak and he didn't eat his either. If he doesn't eat something there is a problem. It was also freezing cold in there and they were cleaning all around us with Pinesol, or some strong cleaner. I honestly can not say one good thing about this dump.

It was okay. We were happy to see real-live cowboys sitting there when we walked in. This place has been around forever and the cuisine matches it. The salad was nothing to write home about. Ditto the wine - a little plastic travel bottle of cab sauv. The rolls were better, and the steak was good, not terrific or anything. If I'd known about our other find in Williams, we would have gone there twice, but I'm still glad we got to experience this place, since it's a dying breed in America: a family place, carried on by the people who used to work there.

In three trips to the US in 15 years, we've eaten at Rod's Steak House in Williams twice. The first time (September 1996) it was to celebrate a birthday, and it looked like the flashest place in town to do this. Then I made the mistake of passing on the steak - the second time (April 2011), I got it right. I had the best steak I've ever eaten. It came with a little container of steak juice to add to taste; there was no need, as it was the juiciest steak with a wonderful mesquite wood flavour. For atmosphere, history and steak - go to Rod's.

Do you remember when you were a kid and you came to the dinner table with your hat on? Well I do. The rule was simple. My mom would make us take our hat off when we ate. Well at Rod's Steak House it appears nobody had a mom. It's that kinda place. We happened to be in town for the Classic Car Show and thought we'd stop in here for dinner. The food was good...notice I did not say great. The green beans were a little water logged, the salad dressing came out in a package you had to open, and so did the butter. The service was decent but not great. The best part of the meal was the chocolate cake which four of us shared because it was so large. No fine dining here, but if you're hungry, it'll do.

I visited, like many other tourists, Rod's Steakhouse on the way to the Grand Canyon. My mother's family had fond memories of the restaurant when they visited decades ago, so I was eager to try it. Unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. Walking in was like stepping back in time, which was quite cool. Everything looked like it was out of the 50's. Unfortunately, though they've had decades of experience in the business, the restaurant seems like it could vastly improve. I ordered a sirloin, medium. My brother-in-law ordered a prime rib, medium. Sister ordered steak burger, and wife ordered fried cod (she doesn't eat beef.) My sirloin was overdone and burnt around the edges; the prime rib was well-done; the steak burger was overcooked, and the fried fish made my wife and I feel ill. Besides the fact that the fish was apparently bad, it's quite sad that such a well-known steakhouse apparently doesn't know or care how to correctly prepare a steak. After years in the business, you think they'd have that down better than any other restaurant. The service wasn't good, either: we were going to let our server (who was quite grumpy even though she only had two tables to serve) know about the overdone cuts, but after she served us, we didn't see her or any other employee for over half an hour. I don't care how long a company has been in business, or how beloved its cow coasters are: if you don't care about your customers, and can't be good at the one thing you're proud of (steak), you can't survive for long with the way our economy is. All I can say to the folks at Rod's is good luck surviving another year, let alone a decade.

I really like steak. Rod's served me and my husband some really good steak. I don't get the poor reviews... we both really enjoyed our filet mignon. It was some of the best, most flavorful and juiciest steak we've ever had. Our server was friendly and prompt, but seemed like she was having a bad night. The restaurant was packed (there was a wait to get a table), but I guess that makes sense since it was a Saturday night in a somewhat touristy area.

The Prime Rib was a little on the dry side, but wasn't bad. The Beef liver was a little better than ok, but I've tasted better. The filet of Cod which my wife was also just ok.

WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! I RECCOMEND THAT YOU DO NOT EAT AT ROD'S "CRAP"HOUSE! As dining extrodinaires, and Arizona natives- I am sad to report how terrible Rod's Steakhouse is, overall - from the service of owners Stella and Lawrence Sanchez, to the Food. I made a reservation at 7:30pm for our party of 12 people, 1 of them being my chronically ill, special needs 2 year old son with medical eqiupment, my specail needs daughter, and 3 other children- along with 6 adults. It was late, and we were all starving! When we arrived, the Host (owner, Stella Sanchez) sat us to our table. They had a specail beer on tap, so I asked to sample it. Our waitress came back and told me that they don't do samples, and I could either buy the whole beer or nothing. So I ordered tge beer, and it wasn't great, so I gave it to my husband to drink. The kids meals are $9, including an entree, 2 sides and drink- milk is $2.50 extra. All kids ordered a meal, except my special needs son. My husband and I ordered the Prime Rib Au Jus, including 2 sides, and dinner salad, and dinner rolls. We got our salads, which was just icerberg lettuce with a small side of dressing in a 2oz ramakin which hardly covered the iceberg chunks. The rolls were Good, they couldn't bring enough to the tabl- but the butter was in packets you have to open. When we got our food, my husband immediatly noticed a long hair dangling from my daughters $9 kids meal. We alerted the waitress and she immediatly took it back and brought a new plate of food. As I indulged in my prime rib, the first bite wasnt great. So I kept eating more hoping it would get better- but it was a very bad cut of prime rib and it was very chewy and grissely and fatty. 5 minutes into our meal, on of the other children found a large hair in her $9 kids meal! We looked for our waitress, and my husband wnet to alert the Manager, and Stella Sanchez who is the owner was who he talked to. After explaining the "Hairy" situation, she became defensive and blamed it on us saying "The hairs must have came from on of the long haired women at the table" and I'm not sure what else Stella said. But my husband returned to the able, kindof upset and insulted! So she came up to our table, and started argueing with my husband about it! So he told her that she was rediculous, and her husband LAWRENCE aproached the table, lunged towards my husband yelling "YOU DON"T DISPRESPECT MY WIFE LIKE THAT" and kept yelling, and screaming and carrying on! The 2 men at our table, and my husband (who are big guys) stood up and told LAWRENCE to back off- in which he immediatly did. BUT he had already caused a scene, scared and intimidated our children and made a fool of himself. I tried talking to STELLA, and realized how unprofessional she was, as I was urging her to at least not charge us for the two hairy meals. She wouldnt, becasue she insisted the hair was from on of us- and that we were trying to get a couple of free kids meals. Our bill was $205.00, and we paid our bill just to leave on somewhat peaceful terms- we OBVIOUSLY were not welcome there! But I have to say that Lawrence and Stella Sanchez are one of a kind- they are TERRIBLE PEOPLE and I cannot believe what LAWRENCE did, especially in the presence of our children- ESPECIALLY in the presence of my very special and amazing Chronically Ill baby boy. THese people have no class, they probably live in a trailer.

This place is KILLER!, felt like a city slicker because gaining some stares from the Local Crowd, but the food was GREAT. Love the decor, the small-town feel and the Med-Rare steak. I definitely will go here again when I drive across country. Cool Cow shaped Menus

Found this restaurant in the Arizona Magazine's best of 2011 restaurants list. I think the magazine must have gotten paid for this recommendation. Rod's certainly has the potential for greatness but the meal was far too inconsistent. Rolls burned and we had to ask the server for them. He said he'd bring them with the salads so we had to wait another 10 minutes for them. Soup excellent. Salads tasteless. Three sirloin steaks all ordered medium. The cuts of meat were nice but one was served medium rare, one medium, and one charred. Green beans no flavor. Baked potato and fries good. Fried chicken good. If they got rid of the inconsistencies they may be worthy of 4 or 5 stars but this can't currently be the best of Arizona.

I saw a sign on the I-40 E for Rod's Steak House and nearly stomped on the brakes. The sign was cute, my stomach was growling and it was lunch time, so I drove into Williams, Arizona to check it out. It's a cute restaurant in a cute town. Everything in the restaurant was branded with steer: from business cards, to the menu, the place mats, the plates and the teacups. Decorations with cows were on every wall, in every corner and even on the ceiling. I ordered a petit sirloin steak with iced tea, hot tea and coffee. (I was thirsty and cold.) The steak was decent. Sirloin isn't my favorite cut of beef but the menu didn't offer filet. The steak was grilled nicely so that it had a slight charcoal crust with a juicy inside. The atmosphere was cozy and fantastically kitsch. The waiter was attentive. The price was reasonable at $25.00 including tax and tip.

We ate here in July of 2007, after searching tiny Williams, AZ for a good meal. We found it! The food, service and atmosphere were all just wonderful. Unlike the other restaurants we peeked into, Rod's focuses on being a great restaurant, rather than milking Route 66 nostalgia or railway nostalgia. The menu is very simple and straightforward. We tried the 'Charred Steak' which is dipped in sugar before grilling. It was fantastic! The sugar added a degree of sweetness that complemented the meat better then you might suppose. (This was the only wierd item on the menu; other selections were more typical steakhouse fare.) For desert, we split a piece of coconut cream pie that was delicious beyond words.

My husband and I loved this restaurant. As we drove by, there was this neon pink sign which immediately got our attention because it looked old fashioned. We went on a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed. However, we were seated right away. The paper menus were shaped like a cow which added to the charm of the ambiance. Our food was fabulous. My husband ordered prime rib & I ordered the teriyaki steak. I haven't had meat & potatoes like that in a long time. The food is pricey. Our bill came to about $46, but we enjoyed it tremendously.

As far as steak houses goes, this place is not bad for a small town restaurant. Normally, I would order the Filet Mignon. Instead, I wanted to try their famous Prime Rib Au jus. I was terribly disappointed. The prime rib was the fattiest I've ever had. I must have carved out half of the wight in fat alone. the Au jus was flat. Not very much taste to it. I was pleasantly surprised by the green beans and the yeast roles. The salad suffered from lack of a selection of salad dressings. To top it off, they lacked in the wine selection. I hate giving poor reviews, unfortunately, I could find very few good positives to focus on for this dining experience. Even the service was lack luster. So much for small town dinning.

I ate here based on the Yelp reviews and was disappointed. My wife, 12 year old son and I each had the sugar dipped steak, a couple of sodas and a coffee and walked out with a ninety dollar dinner bill. I wouldn't have minded so much if the steak was good but we were all disappointed. It was the type of steak I might expect at a Denny's or other diner but not at a steakhouse supposedly famous for it's good steaks. What a let down.

"How can a steak house f up steak!?" Well, they can. Walking up to it, this place looked awesome. It just had "best steak ever" written all over it. I was way wrong. I'll keep it short and simple. The steak was overcooked by about 2 levels and was completely flavorless. The only good thing I had was the soda. However, the server was really nice. Didn't make my steak any better though :(

My mom and dad ate there and dad said his steak was very tough and had alot of gristle. I think they serve a better lunch. Dinner prices very high.

Don't go there!!! Steaks tasted like Charcoal lighter fluid & burnt meat. After we sent it back the 2nd set of steaks came out charred with raw center & tough. Waiter was rude, didn't apologize for the sorry food, no discount was given. If you want to waste your money, just set it on fire, it will be a better experience than going to Rod's Steak House. If Rod knew what kind of slop they give you these days he'd turn over in his grave. Rating FFFFFF-----------!

I guess our expectations should have been a lot lower given the location, but we were still very disappointed in our dinner here. FOOD: I had the sugar steak (which I can't recall the name of), which was a terrible cut of meat full of gristle and general unpleasantness. Moreover, the steak was clearly cooked at far too low of a temperature so that by the time it got to what they called "medium rare" (but was actually more of a medium), the outside was barely even grill-marked, much less caramelized. That left way too much of a sweet taste on the outside that I found quite off-putting. The fries were cold and obviously pre-frozen, and my husband's fried trout was overly battered and kind of tasteless. SERVICE/AMBIANCE: When we came in, the manager (owner?) showed us to a seat right by the door. It was a very cold and drafty night, and I asked if it there were any tables available farther from the door. In a very angry-sounding, clipped tone, she said, "Not unless you're going to wait 30 to 45 minutes. I'm really busy tonight, so give me your name now," and she pulled out a pad of paper. (There were only two other people waiting.) Whoa, hang on - I said I'd be glad to sit down there if that was the only choice, and she sort of sighed like I was the biggest inconvenience in the world and we sat down. But that would have been fine, if she hadn't immediately turned around seated the party of two directly behind us in line AT A TABLE ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE ROOM FROM THE DOOR WTF. Then, when a two person table opened up across the room right after we'd just ordered, we asked the server if we might move. She hesitated and said she needed to consult with her manager, the scary lady, who then came back and demanded to know if we had ordered yet, and if we had been brought food, because it was going to throw off their whole night for us to move etc. ...but then our server let us move anyway. Unfortunately, the second table was under an air conditioner going full blast (?!?) and so I went out to the car and got my coat and ate wearing it because I was too intimidated to ask to move again. :( OVERALL: We would have been better off cobbling together a cold cut and cheese dinner from Safeway, or maybe having a VASTLY cheaper burger at a diner in town.

Service is very friendly and knowledgable about the ingredients on the menu. Portions are big - steaks were cooked to order. This place has been here since 1946 - a lot of history. Mainly tourist eat here but it is still an interesting place to eat. Good basic food, no frills.

As with most establishments along Highway 66, Rod's is old. Old enough to have switched hands over three sets of owners and have legacies going back to the 1940s. In fact, judging by the interior, it probably hasn't been refurbished in decades. Though I can see how replacing some siding and table cloths might impinge on its Old West fasçade. Steaks at under $20 is not a bad price. I actually ordered their signature "charred steak", dipped in sugar and grilled. Yes, I was just as skeptical as you. Indeed, the sugar caramelized, then quickly burned, leaving a blackened exterior. But the steak was thick enough to maintain a pink medium-rare center. As a matter of principle, I refuse to order steak at restaurants that don't specialize in steak. While Rod's beef was far from transcendent, a thick, juicy slab is exactly what you need after a long day's hike. I didn't care much for milking the historic Highway 66 vibe, but if that appeals to you, Rod's certainly satisfies.

So I picked this restaurant out my AAA Tour Book, checked out their menu online and the selection looked pretty decent. From the beginning, our dining experience was pretty lousy. It took us 5 minutes to get seated. After being seated, we waited another 5 minutes before we had our drink order taken, and after that, another 5 minutes before our dinner order was taken. I had the special margarita on the rocks, which wasn't so special at all. Just your everyday normal margarita. My friends had good 'ol Williams, AZ tap water. I ordered the mesquite broiled trout, my friends, the beef ribs and the charred sweet steak (well done). I had soup and a baked potato with my meal, and my friends, soup and fries. Yeast rolls were included and were kinda warm and burnt on top. I forget what the soup was called, but it was really salty. My trout was ok, nothing mesquite broiled about it, lacking in flavor. The only thing I enjoyed on my plate was the baked potato. My friend's beef ribs.... terrible. Huge bones, little meat, and what little meat they had on it, was so tough and stringy that we gave up on them. The special charred steak (well done)... ok, well it was basically something burnt, black, and looked like charcoal. Dry as heck, had a few bites, and gave up on it. I would not recommend this restaurant to any tourist staying in Williams, AZ. If you want a good meal, drive out to Flagstaff.
