This is hard to rate, because the food was delicious. The veggie Italian sub I ordered makes my stomach growl simply re-imagining: buttery, toothsome bread, splashes of marinara, gooey cheese, and crispy fried zucchini. Simple but so beyond satisfying. The sandwich my husband ordered was fabulous as well, so I'd really love to go back for a second helping. What keeps me from doing so is how terrible the service was. We were scowled at by the cashier from the moment we entered until we exited. We were the only people in the restaurant when we came in, and took a minute to read the menu. "This is our first visit," we informed her. Instead of offering any suggestions or asking if we had questions, she rolled her eyes and told us she'd be in the back whenever we decided to order. The restaurant space was dirty, with crumbs and crap on the tables. I couldn't wait to get my sandwich and get out. Definitely don't dine-in. Get it to go, and if you can trick someone else into picking it up and dealing with the friendly people here, you've totally lucked out.

2 stars because their food IS good, but their business practices, and prices are NOT (anymore). I used to love this place, Chicago Dog AND FRIES for like 5 bucks! What a deal! Went in there the other day, ordered a Chicago dog and the lady says, "you know they don't come with fries anymore, right?" "No, did they lower the price of the hot dogs any?" "Uh, no!" (This is where I SHOULD have just walked out). I ordered a large french fry ($3.25) with my Chicago dog, got my order, and left. I got to thinking about it, the large french fry that I ordered came with about the same amount of fries that they used to give you just by ordering a Chicago dog. So, they indirectly raised the price of their hot dogs by $3.25. No, thanks. I'll do without or better yet, if Luke's hasn't turned to this level of stupidity, I'll just go there. If you need to raise prices, that's COMPLETELY understandable, however, I'm SURE the hot dogs and fries market isn't so volatile that you need to essentially raise prices by 170~% one day. Good luck! I won't be back.

Excellent food here. The fries are the best in town (I ask for them extra crispy) and the small is enough for two people to enjoy. As for the sandwiches, the bread they use is outstanding! The Italian beef is good but be prepared for a messy meal. The meatball sub is outstanding, but can be tough to eat (the meatballs are huge), take this one home to make a mess in the private. The turkey sub is unbelievable! I can't identify any specific component that makes this turkey sub so great, but the sum of its parts makes for an exceptional sandwich. Make sure to only order a half (the full is almost two feet long).

Kenny D's is one of those places you drive by and look at and think "nah...to hole in the wall-y." Mistake. A friend told me to try it out, and I must say, great Italian Beef sandwiches. Be warned, they are big. The fries are super fresh...freshly fried. Crispy on the outside, hot and oily on the inside. Don't come here if you are trying to lose weight. Come if you want to treat your gut.

Best Italian Beef Sandwiches in Arizona. As voted by me. The beef is phenomenal. If you can handle it, get the giardiniera. Peppers make Italian Beef even more phenomenal. Been going to Kenney D's for years, and will keep having Italian Beef Sandwiches every Christmas Eve until I die (its a family tradition).

Italian Beef...juicy...melt -in-your-mouth...Amazing beef and peppers - finally, a treat for east side Tucson. Real food, real good. I have driven by Kenny D's many, many times and for some reason, Kenny Rogers always comes to mind. I have seen the place and thought...I need to go there sometime. I have looked online, at the menu and never been quite hungry enough to try it. I think...Italian Beef...like Luke's...yummm...but it probably won't be quite as good. Holy Goodness, was I wrong, and I couldn't be happier to be wrong!! I walked in and asked the guy behind the counter if I should get the beef or the combo. He suggested the beef, good enough for me! I silently thought to myself, "Regular or Junior? I guess Junior size is for kids or people that can't handle a real sammich!" and smirked to myself..I ordered the regular beef and asked for hot and sweet peppers and cheese. My 16 year old daughter got the regular beef with cheese and we split a large fry. What arrived at our table shortly thereafter was nothing short of amazing! It was fast, it was loaded with super thin sliced, tender, juicy, delicious beef on a lovely roll, dripping with love. Yes, I said it, LOVE. The fries were crinkly, crispy and just perfect, although a little hot while stuffing my face with the drippy, gooey mountain of goodness that filled my hands, I could not set it down to take a picture. My daughter made sounds that only come from an approving teenager and are rarely heard. I was blown away by the just how good it all was. I love it better than Luke's. I look forward to my next experience at Kenny D's. Also, while the Italian Beef was juicy and the bread got that soggy crease in it, it was juice, NOT grease. I went home stuffed, full, very satisfied, but not feeling that uncomfortable sick feeling I sometimes get from eating out and yes, eating more than I should. We will be back for more Italian Beef, the Chicago dog, the Ruben and many other items on the menu. As I sat in the car, waiting for my daughter to drive us away, I stared at the picture of the Italian Beef sandwich on the window and thought, wow...that sandwich actually looks almost like what I was served. Mine was actually bigger, and had more peppers, but pretty close...I can finally say that my neighborhood has a place I will crave. Oh, and next time, I will probably just get the Junior size ;)

Great place for lunch. They have a wide variety of sandwiches and burgers and they are all pretty good. The gyro is excellent and the Italian sausage is some of the best I have had outside of Chicago. This used to be my go to place for Italian beef and was some of the best In the southwest but the last one I had was flavorless and under spiced as well as they left off the hot peppers which I didn't notice until I was at my hotel across town. I hope this was an isolated incidence as I went in right at closing time. Will definitely go back next time I need some beef and am in Tucson.

Read reviews about the sandwiches here and got real excited. Went to Kenney D's and we had The Reuben and mini corndogs with fries. Not the worst Reuben I've ever had, but certainly not the best and definitely the most gratuitously greasy I've ever had. Fries and corndogs were the frozen generic kind, so they tasted as such. Decor is as if your twice-divorced, but now single, overweight arm-chair quarterback kind of uncle threw a bunch of shit from his very sad version of a "man cave" into a dirty old office turned diner space...and never cleans it. Cashier was also awful - disinterested and obviously hates her life.

Really tasty food. I'm not from Chicago, so I don't know how "authentic" this food is, but I am a repeat customer. I usually get the Original Italian Beef sandwich with cheese and hot and sweet peppers. Something to note is that the sweet peppers are not chopped, but simply laid in large pieces on the sandwich. I assume this is how it's done in Chicago, but I have no reference. I recommend cutting the sandwich in thirds. It's much easier to eat that way. But it will definitely satisfy. RC product is served here. The only diet is Diet RC.

Best combo sandwich (italian beef and Italian sausage) in Tucson for my money, I highly recommend this place.

I got a junior Italian beef and junior fry. They were both huge and nothing junior about them at all. The food was amazing. I love it. They do dip the bottom piece of bread so if you don't want that part wet ask for the juice on the side. I personally liked it dip. The fries are crinkle cut ones and really good. It was extremely hot inside and the decor is terrible but whatever, the food made up for it all.

Italian beef was pretty tasteless. Used to be the staff was family and friendly. Stood at the counter for several minites before anybody noticed I was there. Asked if they could cut the sandwich in half and wrap them separately. Nope. That's two sandwiches. I asked about the policy, and the fat chick old me she doesn't make the rules, she just enforces them. She said something nasty to me on the way out. Couldn't near it. Good thing. Another old Tucson resturant gone to the customer service dogs. One wonders of the owner reads his Yelp reviews.

Tucson is home to many people who grew up in the Midwest. So it should not be overly shocking to find out that there are actually numerous Chicago hot dog and sandwich restaurants littered throughout Pima County. Kenney D's is a staple of Tucson's east side and it's an establishment that I have been quite fond of since my first trip there back in 2000. Not only does this place serve a variety of high quality hot dogs, but they also produce some of the best subs in the area. I especially love the hot pastrami. The meat always tastes fresh and well seasoned. Many restaurants that attempt to put together a pastrami sandwich screw it up by dousing it in some sort of sauce or mayo or even too much mustard (Remember, a little bit of mustard goes a long way, folks). This one was done right. Just enough mustard to compliment the The marinara sauce used for the chicken parmesan and meatball subs is spectacular. The acidity and saltiness of the sauce come together perfectly and the meat -- whether it's beef or chicken -- is always above par. The service is straight and to the point. Friendly, but also quick and efficient. Every visit I have made over the years has always been an extremely pleasant one making me want to come back in the impending future to gorge myself on greasy Chicago cuisine. I strongly suggest all Tucson residents to make it to 22nd and Kolb and give this enterprise your hard-earned dollars. They , in turn, will work hard to make sure your taste buds and appetite are satisfied

I could go on and on how great the food is here. Real deal Chicago Style sandwiches, and hot dogs! I've never been disappointed with anything on the menu. My go to sandwich is the Italian beef/sausage combo The junior is plenty but the regular is more than a meal! The bread is fantastic, the beef is seasoned perfectly and juicy!! You will get messy. You will be back! They do it right!! Plus as a bonus, reruns of 70's sitcoms are usually playing on the TV!

Yes, I am a fan. I ordered just a 1/2 order turkey sub. It was very large. The BF had the combo sandwich. If you eat there I am sure it is great. But by the time we got it home, the paper wrap was pretty saturated in grease. However, he still loved it. Me, I was not willing to try it. The fries are very thick, and surprisingly not that greasy. But they needed just a little salt. The guy at the counter was pretty nice and the food came out quickly. Definitely a good spot to grab a sandwich and fries.

We came here for lunch about a week ago, and it was such a delight! The husband had been here previously, and took me here to get a sandwich. I had the Italian Sausage with sweet peppers, and while it was delicious, it was an eat-this-at-home-with-the-blinds-drawn-lest-anyone-see-you-attacking-this-beast-with-grease-running-down-your-face sort of sandwich. Greasy, in the best way possible! I am a huge fan! He got the pastrami, and it was to die for! Cheese, mustard and a pickle, the way the pastrami gods intended! We got a fries to share, and while they SEEM like your regular, frozen, purchased in bulk fried based on appearance, they are so much more than that. They have structural integrity, crispy on the outside hot and mushy on the inside. They were so yummy. One fries was all we needed, though. When they say "large" fries, they are not messing around!

  • Lachlan G.

They can literally fry anything and it will taste amazing. When I am jones'ing for an Italian beef or sausage sandwich, with a side of amazing crinkle cut fries, I am going with Kenny. Throw in a large RC cola and I am set. Sure, it can be hit and miss, and often that's due to the help, but I really appreciate local places like this. It's too bad their second location closer to my place shut up shop, but I'm glad they are still in town on 22nd. I need to get back sooner than later.

Not good at all I ordered Italian sausage with peppers cheese I could not even pick it up it was so gross dipping in grease so I had to ask for a fork to eat it. The guy who took my order must have been in a bad mood he was real short with people on the phone and in the store everything is a additional cost peppers and cheese ranch dressing for the poppers the fork was free

So what can I say about this place but awesome. I got the ribeye it was great huge enough that I was only able to eat half. My boyfriend got the chicken parmesan sandwich and loved if. My daughter got the BLT and said it was great. Always great and friendly customer service one of my favorite sandwich spots never disappointed

The best Italian Beef in town by far!!! Very messy and juicy! If anyone complains about it being somewhat soggy they don't know what a true Italian beef is supposed to be! Worth all the mess. They are going to cash only though....I hope it doesn't slow their business down.

I came to Kenny D's for lunch because I was headed for a nearby business. I hadn't been to Kenny D's in a few years and I wash curious if they'd improved. Many years ago I enjoyed this place, but I stopped coming here after a drop in the food quality. This visit wasn't the redemption I was hoping for. I ordered an Italian beef sandwich with sweet peppers. When the sandwich arrived, it was huge, but looked nothing like the one in the picture from the window. And despite paying extra for sweet peppers (which are plural on the menu), it came with one sweet pepper which didn't cover half the sandwich. And worse, the pepper was flavorless. So was the beef. The sandwich tasted like nothing. The beef was under-seasoned, at best. The french roll also gave me problems. Everything except the top crust was extremely soggy, and the sandwich fell apart as I tried to eat it. The firm upper crust was no help here. Ultimately I gave up on the sandwich and threw it away. I used to like the Chicago dogs here. I stopped coming here when those dropped in quality and it's clear from the Italian beef that there's no reason for me to come back again.

I've been wanting to have an Italian beef sub here since the other store closed on Speedway and that was many years ago. Finally got near (we live near Marana) while delivering a truck to be worked on way out East so my wife and I stopped for lunch. We each ordered the regular sized Italian beef sandwiches (dry - which isn't completely dry but it's not sloppy soggy) with both kinds of peppers and a half Order of fries and 2 iced teas. Bill was 22 bucks. What we got is why you want to come here. The sandwiches are stuffed with tender mildly spiced Roast beef and delicious, the bread rolls are similar to, if not Amorosa rolls and also delicious. The crinkle fries were perfectly done and the iced tea looks brewed in a jar. 4 stars + for the food! What you wish you didn't have to put up with when you come here is: A. A very 'harried' and gruff, as in unfriendly person at the order desk. And there were only 5 people in the joint at this point, two were us and two were waiting and had already ordered! B. No obvious customer rest rooms, my guess is there aren't any. We would have liked to wash our hands before lunch and definitely NEEDED to wash our hands after eating our very messy 'dry' sandwiches, we were afraid to ask the gruff order-taker so we washed in the parking lot with a bottle of drinking water and napkins from inside. C. Filthy dirty and stained and broken ceiling tiles in a very rusted T-bar ceiling system, dirty supply registers distributing the 'air'... very unappealing when you look up into the ceiling. D. Up charge for Ranch dressing for the fries... With no credit for not eating ketchup with the fries ;-) E. Meh decor, obviously in-attention over a long period of time here. Some scattered photos of ?? Kenny D? or someone else worthy of being there evidently. I remember the speedway store was much brighter, cleaner and seemed to have much happier and friendly employees working there. If you want the real deal Italian beef sandwiches on great sub rolls this is the place to come. If you want beer there is an Irish pub next door. If you want an iced tea refill... You ask for it, I'm not going to! If you would rather not deal with a, b, c, or d above - go elsewhere.

Used to love this place until I found out what kind of people own this place. Specifically Kenny himself. When it comes down to it, he doesn't give two ***** about his customers. Our experience with him was so bad, we will never eat here again. Plus all the people I sent your way by recommendation, I will be contacting them personally. I am so disappointed. When I have some time to update this review I will give the details of what happened. I think my fellow yelpers deserve to know.

I have been to this place many times and have to say I am not sure I will be going back. Horrible customer service!!! We ordered our food and because of a previous bad experience I always check my order. Again it was missing something due to the inept person taking orders. When I caught his mistake he kept saying but I didn't charge you for it. So what. I had to order an additional order of fries and he made sure to let me know I had to pay for it. He then made sure he told the owner it was my mistake.

Mom and I stopped in here before she got a perm at the shop a few doors down. She got a hamburger and loved it! Juicy, cooked well, just the right amount of toppings. I got a regular sized Italian. It was delicious. I took half to Hubby for his lunch. He liked it a lot too. Got a half order of fries which were hot and fresh, but SALTY! Ketchup helped a little, but not a lot. Note to self: ask for no salt fries next time. Because there will be a next time. The rest of the food was good enough to go back!

The most delicious burgers ever!!!! 5 stars. It's a little pricey, but the burgers and fries are super big and amazing. Have been here a lot lately. My new favorite hang.

Perfection in Italian beef! We're native Chicagoins and have ate our way through the Windy Cities best, Kenney Gs is right up there with 'em. The beef is perfectly seasoned, sliced right and piled high. Order it dipped so it's plenty juicy!

So far everything I have eaten has been amazing. The thing is.... I only ate the burger so far. I just ordered the Italian beef. They make it amazingly fast. I'll add more to this review but it's 5 stars so far.

Overall it was a decent local sandwich place and super quick if you need a fast bite. My husband had the italian meat sub thing...it was HUGE. He could only eat half! He said it was okkkk....the mean was pretty bland and if it didn't have all the peppers topped on it he probably wouldn't have like just the mean and bread. I had the ruben, it was fantastic and HUGE as well. Super juicy! The fries were really good too and super fresh. Overall, we might go back, but it would be for the ruben not the italian meat thing.

Straight off the bat, the AC wasn't working when we came for lunch, and I almost passed out from the heat. Hopefully this was a temporary thing (otherwise do NOT come in the summer). Anyways...... The lady taking orders was great, and they had a pretty diverse menu. I opted for the reuben with onion rings. They had the BEST onion rings I've ever eaten. Huge, crispy, just enough seasoning...yummmm! The reuben was okay. A little overly salty. I had to take some of the innards out because of that. It was also super duper greasy, but I guess that comes with the diner attitude? My coworker ordered the italian sandwich which was ENORMOUS. He loved it, but he had to eat it with a fork considering it disintegrated into a greasy pile of food.

Kenney, Kenney, Kenney..... Now that I have your attention, I'd like to tell you that we have been eating here for many years, not quite regulars, but often enough that we know when you are 'off' the mark. My husband's FAVORITE burger has always been your bacon swiss, but today he said that it was very dried out and not at all juicy, like usual. He wondered if you pre-cooked a bunch of hamburger patties in preparation for a busy lunch rush? Anyway, he was really sad :( You know about guys and their burgers, right? The applewood bacon you use is outstanding on this hamburger and the onion buns are wonderful! I ordered, for the first time, the turkey sub. I had read reviews stating how good they were, but honestly, it wasn't anything special to me. I will give you major props for using La Baguette's bread tho...I've been getting my bread from La Baguette for about 20 years now. Knowing you buy and use their bread, I was looking forward to a nice soft sub, but it was grilled. I know some people may like their subs gilled, but this girl doesn't and it would have been really really nice to know that you usually serve the subs that way (like perhaps putting it on the menu!) Anyway, live and learn. Onto the turkey......it was just so so. What's funny is is that I specifically asked the girl who answered the phone what kind of turkey it was....y'know, was it deli style or 'real' turkey. She said you actually cook your own turkey every day so naturally that is what I wanted. Ummmmmm, no!!!! That sure didn't look or taste like a baked in-house turkey. Just tasted like stuff out of a Oscar Mayer package. Now I was sad...... So, I will stick to the Italian beef and not venture far from it in the future. The fries were AMAZING (got these fries comped cuz they were not good the last time, so thank you!) as were the onion rings! Please always do the fries and O-rings to order; that's what makes yours so special. The pastrami here is very good too as my dad always gets that. Don't worry, we will be back. But please get your burgers back to normal so my husband isn't grumpy.

I am a big fan of their Italian sub. The full is huge, but the half should be enough for most diners. The flavors are amazing and the added basaltic and oil make for a great bite every time. The dining itself is mostly what you would expect from a hole-in-the-wall Chicago deli/burger joint. It's a little run down and small with stereotypical Chicago decor. The customer service is hit and miss, but for the most part, this is a solid lunch joint.

Sandwiched in-between a sea of nondescript auto repair shops and Skate Country on east 22nd Street, is Kenny D's. It's about the only restaurant I noticed in this area. I discovered the place by accident today (on yelp- thanks Mark S) because of the need for an auto emissions test, and a quick sandwich. The sandwich was much better than I expected it would be, considering the hole-in-the wall that the place is. I enjoyed a turkey sub (I could only eat half of a half order). This huge and tasty sandwich was stuffed with turkey and cheese, served on a fresh, flavorful baguette (from La Baguette, according to the owner), and brimming with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and mayo. Honestly, it was one of the best turkey sandwiches I've had in ages! I didn't get any of the grease mentioned in some of the reviews, but I'm sure- judging by the looks of the place, they know how to dish out greasy food too. The booths seem to be coated with a layer of it! I would be giving this place 4 stars, except it seemed to me to be in need of a good cleaning and some general modernizing. It's Tucson though, so my expectations are not that high. To its credit, Kenny D's fits right in with its east 22nd Street location. Based on how great this sandwich was, I will definitely be back when I'm in the area. Great sandwiches, and a friendly owner. Very good local find...

I'm a Chicago girl and now live in Tucson. My family lives in Vegas and whenever I come to visit they want me to bring beef sandwiches as they can't find any there they really like. Usually I bring Luke's and they love them. The people at Luke's are always accommodating and understanding that I am Taking sandwiches to Vegas and I need them to get there intact. My husband went to Kenny D's for food a couple weeks ago and I thought the sandwich was very good and decided to go there this time. Well..to make it easier I gave my husband a small Tupperware bowl and asked that they put the juice in that. I asked for it to be filled and told him we would even pay extra for a little spare juice. The girl working refused and instead gave us 4 small plastic cups that were already leaking by the time my husband got home. They would've never made it to Vegas. My husband told the girl that Luke's is always very accommodating. Her response..."Well we are not Lukes"! Had it been me I would've walked out and headed to Lukes. Needless to say I will not be back. Since when did restaurants become so special that they can treat customers like crap. Why was asking for some juice in a bowl such a big deal? We even offered to pay. Luke's usually fills up a large Styrofoam drink cup for me and they don't charge me a dime. Oh well...I'll be sticking to Lukes.

I came to Kenney D's based on the raving Yelp reviews. Let it be known that I never judge an establishment's food based on their decor. Some of the best *mostly comfort* food I've consumed has been from hole-in-the-wall diners. I came to Kenney D's very hungry and was unwilling to be phased by anything other than the food I came for. Being my first time there, I was glad that I had Yelp to depend on for portion sizes. I can put a decent amount of food away but even the junior fries and smallest Italian Beef Sandwich I ordered were enough for three meals. The man who took my order was extremely kind and helpful when I was choosing what to order. I ordered my aforementioned menu items to go because I wanted to go home to my pups. After ordering, I noticed that the man who was starting to prepare my sub was handling the provolone without any gloves on and it kind of grossed me out. I know that some places do not utilize gloves but I don't trust people when it comes to routine hand washing. I was 'that girl' who politely asked the gentleman taking my order if he could ask the man in the back to put gloves on both of his hands. Ew, one star taken away. I demolished my fries before I even got home. They were crispy, potato perfection. I would return for the fries alone. They're my ideal fry. When I arrived home, I was sad to see that my sandwich had leaked through the wrapping and paper bag into an oily mess on my car seat. This is important to note if you are ordering to-go. Perhaps a plastic bag would have helped. I feel almost silly because I should have foreseen that happening. The sandwich wasn't the best Italian Beef I have ever had but it was good for Tucson. They certainly aren't stingy with the meat, cheese, and peppers. There is a great amount of food for your money. I really did love the roll as well -- a crucial aspect of a great sub/sandwich. All in all, it was good but I'm not swooning over it. I will definitely be back to try something else (most likely in the restaurant this time) and perhaps my rating will go up after a second visit.

Always great food. Best french fries ever. This location anyways.... I was a little disappointed to visit the new one on Wrightstown.. The cooks had no gloves on. One even came in from smoking and started cooking and grabbed a hamburger bun bare handed without washing and put it on the stove (and you have a full view). The french fries were very under cooked. I know the decor is nothing because it's brand new.. but they shouldve waited to open because that was my first impression and i'd rather drive up the street to Risky Business if I want a good burger to go. So for that new restaurant's sake.. please remedy the new store quickly!

I was so disappointed with this sandwich shop. I stopped by the other day on my way to a meeting to grab a sandwich to go. I ordered the most simple sandwich; which was turkey breast on rye bread with lettuce and a smear of thousand island dressing. One might wonder how could that order get screwed up and be unedible. I asked for my sandwich to be cut in half, as most sandwiches are (this one was not cut in half)! I also asked for a small smear of thousand island dressing (the sandwich maker slathered the dressing onto the bread) which made it totally unedible. Being that I drove up to the drive up window should have given them the clue that I would be driving with sandwich in hand. Hopefully, someone from Kenney D's reads this and can get it right the next time someone drives up to the drive up window and places their order to go!

I just have no idea why people giving good rating for this restaurant. My husband says Luke's makes much better cheesesteak. We ate italian beef sandwiches at Kenny D's and they were not good at all. Even though as others say that they provide a huge portion of sandwich, but quality-wise,,, not good at all. Very cheap taste. Peppers are old and lacked flavor and french fries are sooo mediocre. You can get this kind of french fries everywhere nowadays. Neither crispy nor flavorful.Nothing special about this place, overall. I was also disappointed that there is no bathroom or place for watching hands for customers. i wouldn't even want to attempt second try.

Grease, fat, sodium... these are some of my favorite things. Add in a carbalicious roll and you have the Italian Beef. For those lucky enough to live in, or have visited, Chicago and have had the authentic carnivorous creation... I HATE YOU. Kenney D's has brought it to the desert and, if this ain't authentic, then I will eat a bug. Just put some of that giardiniera on it and I am good. You order from the overhead menu at the counter and they bring the food out to you when it's ready. The grease stains on the sandwich wrap speaks to you as the food hits the table. Junior Italian Beef is STUFFED with thin sliced meat. If you can eat the Regular size you are my hero. The giardiniera (look Mom I ate my vegetables) they top it with gives it the right amount of kick and juice-running-down-the-chin factor. My buddy had the Combo, which includes the Italian Beef mentioned above AND a thick Italian Sausage. He recommended I try that next time we go. Awww... thanks for watching out for me. Oh yes, don't forget the perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, fries. Without those this hedonistic trek to Calorie City would not be complete. Two pieces of advice about Kenney D's: 1. Don't wear a good shirt. You WILL be wearing the food. Oh wait.. that's just me. 2. GO NOW!

THE best sandwich shop I've found in Tucson. Their Italian Sub makes all others look "Whimpy". Their 1/2 sub a meal on a loaf of bread ... buy the full sub would feed a family of four for a week (OK ... I exaggerate a little ... but not much). Their Italian Beef is fantastic, too. Fries and onion rings are fresh ... not factory made and frozen in a bag and inventoried for six months. It doesn't get much better. The fact that it reminds me of all the little Italian sandwich shops in Jersey (were I spent close to 20 years) is a good piece of nostalgia! I bet when Tony Soprano comes to Tucson, he stops at Kenny D's for a Chicken Parm. Don't expect fancy ... expect really, really good!

If you are going to someone's house to watch a football game, find out what kinda sandwich they want and bring them one of the tasty ones from this place. Get the beef or any of the other fine choices (I think beef is best) and fries and an RC, sit around and watch the football game and burp a lot. If this is what you are looking for - and don't lie, you know you sometimes do - then this is the place. Just make sure you will have a couch or big comfy chair for after the meal. Please note - you may want to forget any dinner plans you had later that day.

This is for the Pantano/Wrightstown location. First off, Kenny D's on 22nd is generally a 5 star joint for my family when ordering italian beef sandwiches. You can't go wrong with that order, it's simply the best in town. However, my wife and son went to this new location, which is closer to our house, and ordered a meatball (awesome), italian beef (awesome) and ribeye (never buy again, waste of money). We have never bought the ribeye, but my wife thought I would like it so she ordered it for me. When we unwrapped the ribeye sandwich it was all peppers and onions with cheese, no meat. Looked perfect for a vegetarian sandwich! I called the shop and said they goofed up our order and we got someone elses order and the guy asked if I checked the sandwich good. Really? I need to check a Kenny D sandwich for meat? I thought he was kidding. I opened the sandwich back up and sure enough, there were a couple of thin slices of meat on the bottom and about 2 bell peppers and a whole onions worth of veggies. I actually stood there for a minute with my jaw open.....not because i needed to make room in my mouth like i would for the italian beef sandwich, but because i was shocked i got this from Kenny D's. When I asked the guy what the deal was with this sandwich, he said it only came with 4 pieces of meat, thinly sliced meat at that. When I say thin, I mean deli thin sliced thin and certainly not $7 worth of thin. When I said that I would never buy the ribeye sandwich again, he was apologetic, but made no offer to swap for another sandwich or give me a discount on our next order or anything. Very disappointing experience all the way around tonight at this new location and not what we expect from this joint. Obviously, we will never buy the ribeye sandwich again. We will certainly buy the italian beef and other sandwiches we like, but we consider this a lesson learned about their menu. Hope this helps others when picking their sandwiches!

The best place for burgers, Chicago style beef, and seriously - try the bosco bread. I'm totally addicted! Prices and portions are great and the staff is totally awesome!

I absolutely love Kenny Ds. I get the Italian Beef with cheese every time. Tons of meat stuffed into a sandwich, what's not to love? Their fried zucchini is great, as is the french fries. But seriously, if you must eat one thing and one thing only, make it the boscos bread sticks. Big bread sticks stuffed with melted cheese and brushed with garlic butter. Three to an order. You can get it with marinara sauce, but I prefer it with a side of BBQ. Seriously, if I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I would.

Unbelievable! Absolutely the best Chicago-style sandwich shop in town. I will drive past 2 Luke's locations to eat here, and when my sister and brother-in-law come back to town for a visit, they demand to be taken there at least once. Killer Italian beef sandwiches, great Chicago dogs, fried snacks galore, no-nonsense counter service, and the best fries in town. Plus, you can always catch a Blackhawks game there during the hockey season. This place is made of win. Did I mention the prices? CHEAP!

Yummm. Unhealthy but one of my favorite comfort foods. Kenney D's is a Chicago food spot that is a spin-off of Luke's. He basically stole the idea from his daddy Luke. Not so nice. However, I actually prefer Kenney D's execution of the food. Luke's is good and all, but Kenney D's has bigger portions. An automatic winner in my book when the quality is not significantly different. Piles and piles of Italian roast beef sandwiched in French bread. Melted mozzarella cheese. Spicy giardiniera of garlic, celery, carrots. Roasted sweet peppers. Dripping au jus. Huge portion, never leaving you wanting more. So utterly satisfying. Thinking of the awesomeness of the sandwich makes it difficult to write in complete sentences. The differences in Luke's? The sandwich is smaller. A small loaf of bread instead of a cut from French bread. Not overstuffed with beef. Still ridiculously tasty but doesn't hit the spot in the same way. The fries at both locations are amazing. Both crinkle-cut. I prefer the Kenney D's fries too though. They're thicker. They both are crisp on the outside with a fluffy, creamy interior. The Polish sausage used to come with fries, not anymore :( It's still delicious though. Prepared Chicago-style. French bread, pickle wedge, tomato slices, chopped onions, relish, mustard, celery salt. Needs fries to hit the spot though. The pizza burger is also irresistible. Toasted bread with garlic butter. The patty was juicy and topped with a marinara sauce, mozzarella, and mushrooms. It was a tad bit greasy, but it's expected from this type of burger. Accompany this with a bubbly drink to clear your throat and you're in glutton heaven. It's hard to be in a bad mood after eating this food.

I simply had the very best pastrami sandwich I have ever eaten! Not greasy, on a chewy French roll with just the right amount of melted cheese. The fries were amazing. The only disappointing thing was the coleslaw. Tasted fine, but not enough dressing to fully coat the cabbage. Definite return trips are warranted to the pantano-wrights town location.

Thanks Kenney D for making me trust Yelp again. I have gone to few places yelp had good reviews of and was dissapointed. Kenney D's did not! Great Italian Beef - Great Fries. We went back the next day it was so good. Need to try more on the menu but to be honest - I can just have the beef and be just fine.

My wife and I went there for lunch today. First impressions are that it's a hole in the wall, not always a bad thing. I had the italian beef, I thought it was very good. It was messy and had a lot of favor. Also being a bear fan, I felt right at home with ask the chicago team decorations. It was a little pricey, but all and all totally worth 4 stars, and the try.

As an expat Chicagoan in Tucson, occasionally I need a taste of home. The Gyros plate and the Italian Sausage and Beef Combos are both very good and filling and the fries are hot and crispy, just like in Chicago. Also like in Chicago, there are always police officers dining here.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
